He's really funny and knowledgeable. He doesn't grade exams and assignments easy, but if you pay attention in class and study for exams, you'll do great.

He's a really funny guy! I come to class everyday just to hear his stories.. and of course.. to learn about info. sys. =) Going to his lectures actually made me become an IS major.. HE's a really nice guy but he grades pretty hard.. kinda picky on the exams.. but attend class and you'll do well.. there's no reason NOT to attend!

I'm strongly considering becoming an IS major after taking his class. He's hilarious ! Seriously, he would do amazingly well as a stand up comedian. You still learn a ton about IS from him though. My most memorable class would have to be the one where he spent 30 minutes in lecture playing SecondLife and showing us his virtual girlfriend. Haha.

He always says that his class is gonna be the best IS class that you ever take, but wow, it really is. His teaching techniques are really sparks interest for student as he periodically tell jokes to keep us awake during the class period. He grades not so easy though. Seriously he should teach another IS classes in the future, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great Prof. A lot of memorizing, but not too difficult. He really does make class very interesting, and entertaining. Study the slides from class, and don't your waste money on the book. You don't need it.

Getting a good grade in this class is dependent on the presentation and the midterms. He will not help you with what might be on the midterms or the final, will not give you study guides but it is possible to get a good grade if you study everything. Definitely a good prof and a class worth taking.

Very funny guy, but the jokes eventually get a little repetitive (It's so hot that...). Take the presentation very seriously, and study for the test (ALL the slides are fair game, so even learn the obscure ones...).

Very very funny. Makes lectures very interesting. A lot of memorization for tests. The presentation can be a lot of work so pick a good team. Make sure you attend lecture because participation in class is graded.

Best professor! The tests are multiple choice, T/F and short answer, and the average is usually about 80%, but easy to get well above. Labs are easy and take only an hour at most. The group project is hard, so I suggest talking to him about your topic and get a lot of feedback. Shaosong is also super funny and keeps the class interesting.

Pretty funny guy, but his tests are harder than you think. They require a lot of memorization. He will tell you which slides to study for tests. Make sure you memorize EVERYTHING on those slides and I mean everything, even the most obscure things are game for the test. Overall, lectures can be a little dry at times, but his jokes are pretty funny.

Shaosong is a great professor. He makes the subject material very interesting! I didn't know anything about IS prior to taking his class, and now I'm considering taking many more IS classes. He is entertaining, which make the two hour class go by faster than my other 2 hour classes. As for exams, memorize every slide he tells you to memorize!

Shaosong is easily one of the most entertaining instructors at the university. Not only that, but he knows his stuff and you'll learn a lot. Overall, the class is manageable and the exams aren't too tough. The hardest part is the group presentation, so make sure you pair up with competent people, and prepare diligently. Shaosong may have been the most entertaining professor I've had. He makes a lot of jokes (some a little crude) and it keeps you entertained and at least a little bit focused. The material was dry at times, but he tried to keep everyone involved. I felt like the class was very difficult during, but after the curve I found myself with a 3.9!

Shaosong opens every lecture with border-line jokes I personally found entertaining. His exams require strict memorization of the slides; He has two pop quizzes testing you on material 1-2 weeks prior to midterm and final. The final is a little harder but manageable. He could shorten his lecture to about 45 minutes if he cut out the non-sense

Funny but really, really, REALLY awkward guy. Does not require textbook, although it does help out. First half of the quarter is spent learning about technology in businesses, second half gets really technical into exactly how technology works (binary, electromagnetic waves, etc). Would definitely recommend!

Shaosong is great in that he is somehow able to be a boring subject like IS hilarious and entertaining. However, don't be fooled by the lighthearted and fun nature of his class, because some of the excel assignments and the final were very difficult in my opinion, and took me by surprise.

He knows his stuff. He is concise, but doesn't make topics as clear as they could be. The first half of the quarter is mostly memorization, the second half is excel/binary and more conceptual. You'll likely have to do some Internet browsing to fully understand concepts. But DON'T SKIP LECTURE. He keeps it entertaining and he genuinely cares.

Shaosong has an incredibly inappropriate and hilarious sense of humor and makes class more upbeat and exciting. He knows IS inside and out and is extremely good at teaching it, especially to someone who knows nothing about computers or tech. There were a couple pop quizzes but even his tests are quite straight forward. Just do the homework!

He has a great sense of humor; he loves you especially if you're blonde. One thing to note: hope that your team has your group project on the 2nd day versus the 1st. He doesn't make teams turn in their projects in on a due date, because of this many groups change their presentations to anticipate his questions/gauge how to to suck up.

Shaosong loves to crack jokes and even though they are often painful, it makes the class interesting and fun. Tests were harder than expected, but not awful. Group project w/ 5 page report was alright, just try to be innovative with your idea. Lab can easily be skipped w/ no impact on grade as long as you do the lab assignments (put on canvas).

Shaosong is an engaging lecturer who opens every class with a joke. The exams and pop quizzes are written entirely from the lectures, lab assignments and supplemental reading (not from textbook), so take good notes. There's a big group project due at the end of the quarter. The textbook is unnecessary (save $ and use library copy, if needed).

There's a lot of material in this class, lots of memorization of small details, and a lot of the information isn't super practical. That said, Shaosong is super funny, easy to learn from if you care, and pretty clear with expectations and tests. Take Shaosong! But it's not a shoe-in.

Shaosong is a great professor for the intro Information System class. He is funny and inspirational. Attend his class, and you will be good for the exam. His exams are based on his powerpoints and his examples provided in class. The lab section is easy. Great professor.

Shaosong is hilarious and engaging. Most of the grading distribution is made on the midterm and the final (which often feel like trivia with shaosong). I remember the first midterm had like 8 points on auctions, which was mostly from a 15 minute aside in one of the lectures. The curriculum is essentially whatever interests shaosong-- great class.

Shao Song is, and will always be, the funniest professor on campus. Sometimes I find myself falling backwards but he would never let my grades fall. And I'll tell ya, Winter quarter was a slippery slope.

The exams are pretty hard and I really suggest heavily studying the material. He teaches you valuable skills, especially in Excel and just like all Foster courses, there is a group project in his class too.

Shaosong is one of the best professors I've had at UW! He is passionate about the lecture materials. His lectures are always so engaging. The lecture contents are also very relevant and useful. He is very organized (which helps so much in remote learning). He gave lots of help on the second hw which made it less challenging than it seemed at first.

Don't take IS300 if it's not with Shaosong. This guy is absolutely amazing in lecture and in general. He cares about his students and makes the class interesting. He walks through the content and does his best to make sure everyone is caught up. (also king of comedy!! never a dull moment in this class)

I was unsure if I was fit for IS but after taking IS 300 with Shaosong, I knew I was going to continue on my path. There are challenges, but he will be their to meet with you, and will reply to emails almost instantly. I feel like everyone is being a bit too hard on him here, you definitely need to put in work on the lab assignments, but not too time consuming. The tutorials didn't help at all tho so I just stopped going to them and skimmed thru the replays. His classes are interesting and the only real issue here is how much the content bounces around randomly.

Shaosong likes to keep up with the current trends! Like the "fellow kids" type. The content isn't hard, but the expectations for lab assignments are inconsistent across different sections (b/c different TAs). Some of the assignments involve a little thinking outside the box. Work together with other people! It helps a lot.

Shaosong is my favorite professor Ive had at Foster! He is very funny, an engaging lecturer, and very accessible in terms of help outside of class. I havent seen another professor put in the effort he has to create a dynamic online learning environment; it was refreshing. It is a tough class for sure, but I cant recommend Shaosong enough.

Amazing professor. Every class was engaging and had something new to learn. The assignments were tough at times but enjoyable. Small quiz once a week. His personality is wonderful. If he's available be sure you take his class, you won't regret it. Grading isn't tough, make sure you do all your work and turn it in on time. 10/10 class overall

I think his rating is a little lower on this site because of how hard the assignments and final can be. He's a great guy, a very concise teacher, and doesn't get boring to listen to. Just start the group project early and be prepared to put in time for the assignments. If you can, take this class with 1-2 easier classes. One of my favorite profs!

This class was really interesting and Shaosoung was a entertaining and solid lecturer. There are weekly quizzes that come from the lecture that can be difficult, but I would say they are fair. You can tell he is passionate about the field and cares about his students. I would take him again as he was entertaining and made it fun. Final was tough.

You don't really do much in the class except weekly lab assignments (like excel or other computer language task). Actual lectures aren't very helpful and I didn't really pay attention to them. Grade is made up of 2 lecture assignments, 10 lab assignments, group project, and the final. Final is really hard but I don't think your supposed to finish

I am not sure where all the bash comes from for Shaosong. He is a sweet guy and always inspirational. IS 300 can be a bit boring, but it is not challenging. Look at the dates of all the negative reviews for Winter 2023; it is very unusual. Seriously, Shaosong is probably not the best teacher as Foster, but he is well above par.

Great professor. Kind, full of jokes, engaging even tho material is boring. The bad thing (and the reason for bad winter q reviews) is that the final was WAY too long. Nobody finished. Literally NOBODY. He's very intelligent, so I have no doubt he will change the final for next q. With that assumption, he's awesome. Don't be afraid of his class.

I really enjoyed Shaosong's classes, I also loved his adorable and sweet TA Yue. He is a cool professor with good jokes and lots of knowledge. I appreciate how he stays up to date to trends. Yes, the workload is heavy and exam is extremely difficult, so starting all assignments, labs, and project early is a must. That saved me this quarter.

Shaosong is a very entertaining and funny lecturer. All of the info on exams comes from what he talks about on the lecture slides. The labs and projects require a good understanding of the program used so they can be difficult. The class is pretty difficult, but if you review definitions, formulas, and lecture videos before exams, you can do well.

Shaosong is honestly one of the best professors at UW Foster. I highly advise everyone to take his class if possible. He's funny and very passionate about the material, and he does a great job of connecting with his students on a personal level.

Listening to Shaosong's lectures is like watching Tim Cook unveil the latest iPhone. Dude's just got a youthful aura. His tests are ridiculously hard, but very applicable if you plan on pursuing I S. I wouldn't recommend taking this class with him if you're taking 4 classes and working a part time job.

To study for the tests, honestly, make sure to review everything! Slides, in class workshops, lectures. Beware: U learn code and IS systems in ONE lession and are expected to know for exams.
