He's a very nice guy but his class is really hard and he tests on ways to apply thigs that you never covered in class.
class was very interesting. vali is a great guy and good teacher but he tests you on things not covered in class or in the book. if you are very smart and can teach yourself and be resourceful, you should definitely take the class.
Be careful. Tests can be a surprise. Need to study all material. Is very helpful to students outside of class.
He is a terrible teacher, especially if you have him for night classes. He uses the first part to lecture about god knows what and spends the second half putting you to sleep. His tests were full of stuff not covered in class or the books(which are full of mistakes). If you can avoid him, do it, Take classes at Rose Hill.
Absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had, complete punk who favors particular students. Do not take him, u might want to hurt ureself first, cuz its painful to sit through his class
Very enthusiastic teacher and that keeps class lively. He has trouble explaining some things initially and the book was useless, but he does his best to help you out if you meet with him.
Loves his subject. Extremely helpful if asked for clarification in class or office hours. If you do the homework and readings, the tests are easy. There are no surprises on his tests, despite what other raters have written here. Most test questions are exactly like homework questions. If you like economics this is an excellent class.
His name also instills terror in my veins. A nice man but more effective as fear instiller than a lecturer. Never uses text books. You'll be lucky if he asks you read a section.
He is an awesome dude, not the easiest but if u follow class n study notes u ll be fine. "hahahaha Z Box"
if you ask him for help then he is helpful and will remember you. i think he is a tough grader when it comes to homework and on tests he usually gives 1 or 2 questions which werent covered in class. good thing is that tests are open book
not a bad professor, if you dont like econ dont take this class. attendence is required especially if your not following up on the reading and homework. high use of textbooks.
Horrible "teacher"! He can not teach to save his life. He is really rude too! He does not like to help students after class.
He is not a horrible teacher at all. It's just that his class atmosphere is very relaxed, and it's easy to not pay attention. But if you actually listen to the guy, you can learn something. The tests aren't as bad as people say either, just do your homework and pay attention. He's also VERY approachable after class. He's a good adviser.

He is a very fair person. If you want to learn something, take his courses?I think, thus far, he is the best econ prof. at Fordham?he gives homework so you can practice for the exams. But his exams are relatively tough?you have to put the hours in to get the at least a b+?if you want an A?then you really need to dedicate your weekends too?
I took Basic Microeconomics with this professor, hoping to gain some basic knowledge of how the economy works. He's friendly, but highly confusing. His lectures don't really connect well and sometimes, it seems as if he pulls things out of nowhere. Avoid his class if you've had no experience with economics prior.
The class was disorganized, tough to navigate expectations. Overall, he is witty and very passionate on the subjects he teaches. I enjoyed listening to him lecture (when he did in fact speak) as he offered great insight into econ of energy. Just show up to his class and do the work and you will do well!
He is a pretty good professor, very helpful and nice. He will help you and remember you. I truly enjoyed the class, but the only BUT is that you really need to work super hard to get a good grade!!!

TRULY one of the best teachers in the department. He cares for his students but doesn't baby them. He expects you to work for your grade. He does go off on tangents but they're interesting. Overall, do the homework, pay attention, come to class and you'll get a good grade.
Average teacher. He's not very clear and when students question him he doesn't answer the question. if you read the textbook you'll understand. he marks right answers wrong on tests and doesn't give partial credit. he yelled when asked if theres anyway to receive extra credit and accuses students of not doing work. singles students out.
had macro with this guy. learnt nothing and not getting a good grade either. avoid him unless you are fine with having to read the textbooks on your own. oh and his tests are hard too!
Many people drop his class, because it is impossible to follow him if you haven't taken his classes before. And yes, - awfully boring!
Do not take for statistics, his notes on the blackboard are terrible. They make no sense as to the material they are supposed to pertain to and in his words he teaches the abstract, as in not examples, just numbers and formulas. I would never take him again as there are so many better teachers here who don't try and confuse their students
Take this class only if you want to screw up your GPA, Professor Vali will be more than happy to help you with it. He lost his interest in teaching many years ago (I am not sure if he's ever had any)
Took him for Math for Econ. He made us buy a manuscript he wrote that has so many spelling mistakes and are absolutely useless. He doesn't help and puts in questions that we haven't been taught on the exam. Avoid him at all costs! He's not very nice either
Refuses to meet outside of office hrs. Difficult to understand. Belittles students who ask questions in class. Must purchase his equally useless book. 1 midterm and 1 final= 100% of grade= SETS STUDENTS UP FOR FAILURE. Does not care about the class, and tries to keep his work related to the class as low as possible. You can ask anyone!
Can't believe that he is still teaching. He is annoying, boring, and confusing as hell. Take Hresko instead.
I've had Vali twice as both an undergrad and Grad. Definitely easier the second time around but still I can understand frankly why you get lost in his class. You need to sit in the front of his classes, have some good knowledge in math, and really study your homework to get an A. Got a a B the first time around and should be getting an A this time
Worst professor ever. Doesn't actually teach anything, but rather claims you should know it all before coming to his class. He cuts the classes short thereby robbing you of the money you paid for it and you will come away having learned nothing. If you are an Econ major, change schools, bc Fordham gives this guy too many of the classes you need.
Took over the summer, the class was great although he is sometimes hard to understand he makes sure everyone understands what he is covering, very helpful, go to lecture and you will get a good grade, not much work outside of going to lecture
Professor Vali is great. He really cares about the students and wants them to work hard. He values fairness and if you give an honest effort in class you will do well. He gives about 10 homework a semester and they are about 6 to 7 questions long with multiple parts to them. The midterm is exactly like the hw questions.
If you're good at math this is an easy class. Suggest buying the textbooks because if you don't want to go to class you can just teach yourself and the answers to all the questions in the textbook are there. Exams are just like the homework. Only a midterm and final. No participation or quizzes. Expecting to get an A because 90 or higher is an A
I should've dropped the class after the midterm, like a lot of my peers did but I decided to try my luck instead. Worst decision I ever made.
Currently failing (Stats I). I tried asking him for help and asked him if he could meet me for 15 minutes, outside of his regularly scheduled office hours, as they conflicted with my schedule. He never responded, I asked in person he said "No". Impossible to understand, goes off on weird tangents. Homework is on stuff he barely explains in class.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS! He is definitely THE WROST professor in Fordham. There are only one midterm (40% )and one final (45%), if you cant score a 80% or more on the midterm then just drop this class. He intentionally gives more than 10 students F in just one class. He is not qualified to teach students or even be a professor in college.

40% of your grade is the midterm, 50% is the final, 10% homework. If you memorize how to do the homework then you should do well on the tests. Lectures are kind of boring and he can be hard to understand at times. Goes off on a lot of tangents. Assigns around 10 homeworks a semester and they can take a while to do but are needed to pass the class.
Knew Stats before taking this class, very easy for me so I got an A. He is pretty light on the Homeworks and they do a good job in making the students understand the material. Made it too easy for some students, like giving open book exams and big tangents sometimes made us forego some material.
The worst professor at Fordham.
If you want to reduce the chances of losing brain cells, and if you really WANT to learn and do well, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It's horrific. I'd rather get shot than stay in his class for an hour and change. So unclear and he gives out difficult tests.. Avoid him at all costs.
This is the worst class I have ever taken in my life. Vali doesn't teach you anything and says that you should come to class knowing everything. When you get to class he is either going to not teach you anything or spend the whole class going over homework due for class and assign you homework on material you will never learn in class. WORST CLASS
Thank god I dropped his class. His class is horrific. Can't teach and thinks everybody is on the same page as him. He's really rude about things, and has an attitude. Super unclear... Surprised he's still teaching at Fordham even after all these bad reviews. Do yourself a favor, Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!!!!!!!!!!!!
His teaching is confusing, lecture doesn't make sense, and he expect you to know the course material already. Basically, he doesn't teaching anything lol. Prepare to read every pages of the textbook if you want to do well. Mid term and Final makes up 90% grade. To get an A, you will need to study hard by yourself.

He explains everything except for what you need to know. He goes on so many tangents like describing car systems. When he does teach it's very quickly and uses complex symbols to describe very simple ideas. No study guides or additional practice work. The textbook he does use he says doesn't give good examples or describe things correctly.
If you study the hw, make yourself some practice problems and ask questions/participate in class, you should feel very relieved at your first exam as he gives you the basics of each problem. As long as you understand the material, you don't necessarily need to understand him. Regardless make sure he likes you.
He is actually a very nice professor who is open to answering any questions you have. You only have a midterm and final but if you know how to do the homework it's an easy A. It's a lot of independent work but if you put in the work for the homework you'll be fine. He also gives you the answers to them later on to help you.
Vali is great as long as you're up for self-study and are a decent test taker. By the end of the semester, I was learning almost everything on my own time from the class slides and showing up to class simply because it was fun to listen to his tangents. If you're the type of student who would enjoy that, then Prof. Vali is the one for you.
Terrible Professor. He doesn't prepare students enough for the exams. The pace of the class is way too fast. He doesn't give the proper time to go over each topic. Homework is also really bad since he gives us basically no time to complete them. His slides are also formatted terribly, they don't explain anything well. Avoid this guy at all costs.

Professor Vali is is an excellent professor. He is extremely enthusiastic about his subject, which is a gift (even if that means listening to his goofy yet interesting tangents). His homework is very reasonable and you'll have no problem learning the material in class (also, the textbook is optional, which is nice). Take him if you can!
Genuinley the WORST professor ever. Unless you already know how to do stats, DO NOT take his class. He is so rude when you ask questions, talks about everything except what you need to know, and does not provide answers online for homework. I cant believe he is allowed to teach. He gives no partial credit. He wanted the average to be 70...
This professor is notoriously bad and prides himself on keeping the class average under 70. At all costs do not take this professor. Cannot teach and goes on tangents about nothing every other sentence.
Avoid at all costs. The professor grades harshly with confusing questions. He has terrible grammar and a thick accent, going on useless tangents. He often questions why students don't show up or pay attention in class without realizing he is the issue. There is a reason everyone says they're sorry when they hear you have this teacher.
Not great at anything at all. Gave terribly formatted homework (the content is also terrible) and proceeded to complain that it took too long to grade and started having the class grade their own homework. Nothing about this class or structure is good, and taking this class will significantly boost your chances of lowering your GPA. Major avoid!
While studying for the final I realize he taught me nothing. I know very little, and the homework do not help much. Take any other stats teacher if you care about yourself.

This professor has no professional abilities and has the worst teaching style I've ever been exposed to. The 'material' is covered in the sense that he spends the entire class going over the homework assignment. Take this sleep-inducing class if you enjoy long conversations not related to the class and feeling confused.

ABSOLUTELY SUCKS. I took AP Stats, a class far more in-depth than Stats 1. I scored far better (A's w the occasional B) in HS than in his class because he does not work with you. He teaches it differently and expects you to do it his way, and he does not give any partial credit on exams. Rushes you out of office hours and has limited availability.

genuinely the worst teacher I have EVER gotten. I read the reviews and thought it couldnt be that bad but it was WORSE. please do not take him, save yourself from dropping your gpa. He expects people to get a c in that class. I cannot believe he is still allowed to teach. Even other professors have acknowledged his terrible teaching skills.
If you can take another professor for Stats I, PLEASE choose them. Although Vali cares about his students, his teaching style and grading system are horrible. His lectures are confusing, and he goes on many tangents. (NOTE: he assigns 1-2 homework assignments per week, and the midterm exam is based on the homework).

Some people aren't made to be teachers. This guy is one of those people. Avoid him -- and the low grade that he'll give to you -- at all costs.
Lectures are so disengaging and confusing. As everyone has said he goes off on SO many unrelated tangents. He grades on just two exams and won't add another because he claims there aren't enough class periods to do so, yet he spends almost an entire class every week going over a homework. With his style that doesn't even help to understand.
Probably top 5 worst experiences in my life was this class. Accent heavy, test heavy, teaching ability light. I feel so sorry for anyone who has to endure this professor.
This was the worst class and worst professor I've had at Fordham. I completed all the homework, studied for the tests, went to him a few times, and even saw the econ tutor at Fordham and still ended up with a B-. He has no compassion for students and seems to hate teaching. AVOID!!!!
The dude WILL fail you no matter how hard you try. Trying is impossible regardless because he fails in all regards in teaching ability. I tried to talk to him but felt I was getting attacked by how bad his breath and general presence were.
DO NOT take vali -lectures theory, goes on random rants, assigns mathy homework. does not post solutions or tell what's wrong -grading is brutal, especially on exams -bragged about failing 75% of the class, encourages ppl to take the F or W -strt A student & successful otherwise. had tough professors, this is different. he should not be teaching
Avoid him at all cost!!!! He really can't teach, and his classes are so boring. Tough homework as well and grades them based on accuracy not completion. If you have no other choice but to take him and you want to do well on his exams, study his ppts and homeworks. He does allow one page cheat sheet on his exams so take advantage of that.
Please do not take this professor. I feel bad because he is a nice guy, but you will never recover from this class. Only two grades and extremely difficult. So unclear on the material, hard to understand, not structured and will ruin your gpa. I thought I would be okay after reading the reviews but this class was the biggest mistake of my life.
Honestly, unless you already have a really good grasp of statistics, do not take Vali. His midterm and final are pretty much what make up your grade, and he structures a lot of the homework so that you have to solve it on Excel rather than use the appropriate equations. But you have to know how to use the equations for the test?! Avoid him.
1/3 of my class dropped after the midterm, nice prof, painful class. This pushed me like no other Econ class and had me studying for days. Crushing that final after all that stress felt amazing, but I couldn't for the life of me recommend his class. Take Math for Econ at RH, even if it screws your schedule, this professor is a bullet worth dodging.
Nice guy but could not teach!!! Went on random rants during class and long hw was completely unrelated to what he said in class. Totally on ur own to learn. Half the class had dropped by the time I did. Do not take this lol he just really doesn't explain anything and does NOT teach.
I've never encountered a professor who seems to take pride in students failing. You're completely on your own in this class—there's little to no support or guidance. He even boasts about how many students have dropped. Please, save yourself the time, stress, and money.

Failed midterm as an A student, most got under 40. Only midterm/final. Class wasted on useless topics/examples, doesn't explain eqns well, slides don't help. Learned more on hiv than Stats. "Teaches" topics on graded weekly hw after its due. U will teach urself for test. Blamed us for failing bc we "didn't study" and got upset we asked abt a curve

he is a terrible professor, almost 3/4ths of my class dropped out of his class around the midterm time. he goes on random tangents that don't relate to the topics we should be learning, and then he yelled at us for not being prepared or not understanding concepts. avoid this professor at all costs!!

This is literally the worst professor I have ever had at Fordham. I cannot believe he is still allowed to teach. Do not take unless you want to hate your life. This is the first class I have ever felt like I might seriously fail. Also, the midterm and final make up 85 percent of your grade, so if you do not do well, you're literally cooked. BAD!!!!

The most incompetent professor to exist. The class had 27 students to start, and ended up with 5 by the end of the semester because everyone withdrew. Avoid this professor because he can't teach and does not know what he is talking about. Teaches things that won't be on the exam. Needs to be fired.
I was very confused during the lectures. I learned everything through self-studying and ChatGPT. Tests are heavy, but the questions are from homework, so it is possible to prepare. Professor assigned academic hours (didn't help me) and provided examples of tests. The final and midterm exams are 40% and 45% of the grade, hm, every week. no curve.
