Best chemistry teacher...I am not a math or science person and she was wonderful. very helpful and understanding
She is very intrested in her students especially the ones who try really hard to have the lab reports handed in on time. This also earns you an extra 2 points per lab.She is a great teacher.
I personally had difficult time understanding hearing her clearly.. she was always willing
I had a difficult time hearing her in class (could be my hearing deficit)..she was always available for extra help..very pleasant to deal with
SHe is a very nice lady. Willing to help if you don't understand. Take her!
Great professor. If you need extra help, she is happy to assist. She tests what is taught and I feel is a lenient grader (especially with late homeworks and labs)
Excellent Chemistry teacher! Take her! She is the sweetest person who is always willing to help you. Tests are exactly what she teaches and her reviews are great she'll hint off whats on the tests. Very lenient grader. It is easy to get an A in her class as long as you follow her and study. I loved her she was great!
VERY confusing class during the summer. Grade was better than I thought. Prof was kinda confusing.
The person who wrote the comment below is sour and obviously shouldn't be taking college level work. I took this class over the summer and got an A because I worked my butt off. She calculates your grades according to how you scored on tests, labs and homework. She plays NO favortism and is the sweetest person.

Bad teacher I couldnt understand a word she said. But she is very easy to take. Me and my friend got 90% of lab questions wrong and we got an 8/10. As long as you do ALL the work(labs and homeworks) you can pull of a decent grade. I was asleep everyday of that class and got a c.
Chemistry is not an easy class, but if you truly want to do well and understand what you are learning take this professor. My whole class loved her and we wanted to be like this "noble gas." Her class was interesting and fun, and it is clear she wants everyone do well.

This professor is great! would love to take her in Chem2 , the class is not easy whatsoever but she really teaches well and puts it in terms that you can understand. I took this class 3 years ago got a D, now since she's such a good teacher, I am getting an A
She is the best teacher! Very helpful, very supportive. If you don't know chemistry she is your gal!!
This class is def hard, if you are not willing to put time in studying don't even bother. Though she is the nicest teacher and really gives you every opportunity to pass. I failed two tests but got an A in lab and did all my homeworks and I'll easily get a B thanks to her grading system, take her!
she is a great teacher. gives you extra credit. the subject is hard but she makes it as fun and understandable as she can. she cares about her students she is tough on attendance. you can miss some if your sick but if you are absent alot and randomly she'll get mad. she is a good prof. i would take her again
This class is HARD. I have a 4.0 and I only got a B. But professor Sambasvian is a great teacher and goes out of her way to help you understand the material. It's just a very hard class. I highly recommend taking her for any chem she is teaching. She is a great teacher.
If youre a beginner and need to learn Chem this is the Professor. She is AWESOME. She explains everything so well. Great great teacher. Highly recommend. Cannot say enough good things about her.
CHE-134 is a very hard course. She goes out of her way to help everyone understand the material. She is such a sweet lady and just wants to see everyone pass. I would take her again for any chemistry class.
Prof Sambasivan is a good professor. However she tends to change her mind over thing she said before. Like, she tells you, you can miss 2 labs then she says you can only miss one. same thing with the exams, she will tell you what is on the exam and then is not. She goes over very easy exercises on the board and then she tests you on the hard ones.
awesome prof will help everyone very clear a little Indian accent. does tons of examples. tests are hard but will curve them. TAKE HER
Nt gonna lie she is very clear when lecturing it is even enjoyable but her exams and labs are just not what u expect. Study hard maybe u get a b
not easy for me to understand chemistry i had to get a tutor me to understand the chemistry horrible teacher i would advise to take another profesor her grading is not fair, watch your grades she will mark it wrong when you are right and she will not give you the answers to let you now if your really wrong i ADVISE you to take another professor
this professor is a hard teacher in her lab classes she switches up you and your (partner) lab results while you both have the same answer but she will grade it differently so be very careful. she is unfair about alot of things. She is unpredictable because she tells you one thing and does another (she Lies)
Be careful dont take this professor there are plenty of qualified professors that you can take so you can get the right teaching and fairness
She explains things really well and is super nice! I hate chemistry but she makes it less boring than it was for me in high school. She is a tough grader on labs, but curves the tests. The homework is online, not very difficult. As long as you study and pay attention in class you will do fine
This professor is very hard to understand in order to catch on to the materials, she changes her mind so much that you dont know what is coming. this professor Never curved any type of work or test while i was in her class just be very careful and make sure that you do not take any other classes if you have this professor because you will not pass
Becareful she is not good professors.
Great prof. Very fair in grading and cares a lot for her students. Always willing to help. If you want to do great, attend her office hrs. I wish I could take her for Chem 134.
Extremely nice, and really enthusiastic about the subject, she is very fair on grading and if she sees that you know what your doing but get the problem wrong shell give you most of the points. Very helpful, take her!!!!
Excellent professor!!! Not only does she love what she does but she loves to help her students. I would go to her almost everyday and she would never say no to me. She helped me out so much and I'm so thankful. Nothing in this life is easy so for those who have negative things to say I'm sorry but get a life and work harder. Do take this professor
best chemistry prof.
not good for slow learning students
We never used the textbook. We had to buy it for an online code WHICH YOU CAN BUY SEPARATELY FROM THE BOOKSTORE but she didnt tell us. All of the hw is online and she changes the dates for when stuff is due so you have to check it daily. Shes bad about grading-mixed up 2 of my tests out of 3. All over the place, unorganized. DONT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
Biggest complaint is that we NEVER used the textbook, and it was $183. She is a total scatter brain and while she's teaching you cannot understand her accent and she is all over the place. Her method of teaching does not go along with the textbook, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. WORST PROFESSOR. And she does not curve.
Worst class I've ever taken in my life. If you're smart YOU WILL NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Textbook was $180 and I never even opened it. She teaches from some other text book and uses slides that you can find on her website. The hw is all online and she changes the due dates whenever she wants. In class she's all over the place and her accent OH MY GOD
She is a little disorganized, but it's not that bad. Overall she is a great teacher and a really nice understanding lady. You have to read the slides and go to class. I also read the book which helped. This is college take some responsibility for your own life. I don't think you are going to get a better professor.
Not Recommended! No Studying materials, She expects you to learn everything on your own. Hard Tests and no Curves. you'd be luck to pass with a C with her.
This professor is an excellent teacher. Take her if you want to learn chemistry. Her tests are hard, but that prepares you well for standardized finals.
Bad at teaching students, bad at preparing us for test. Test are extremely hard, but it is chem, so that's to be expected. Don't go into her class expecting to learn anything, whole class literally just stares at her questioning in their heads how she expects us to learn anything with how sporadic and non-linear her teaching style is.Don't take her
I don't have a hard time understanding her accent, but her instructions are unclear. Randomly changes dates. I'm considering withdrawing.
Great professor, tests are hard but you'll do fine if you study. She has an accent, but it's very easy to understand. She knows chemistry well and she's there if you have any questions.
Sambasivan is a great professor. If you aren't doing so well she'll help you out and try to give you every opportunity to do better. She knows that the tests are hard and she gives so much extra credit to help you. Her lectures are very informative and she doesn't put anything you haven't seen on the tests. I had her for two semesters,.
Prof. Sambasivan is really dedicated to her students. She works really hard to make sure that her students understand the material. Chem 2 was a bit tough, but she really did her best throughout the semester. A VERY lenient grader. Gave a lot of extra credit. She's really understanding. If you put in the time, you will pass.
Professor Sambasivan is one of the best instructors I've ever had had. She will always help you with anything in the course as long as you ask her. She is lenient, especially for the lab assignments as she will always guide you with them. She also gives out tons of extra credit, usually they are worth up to 10 points on each of the tests.
Very Difficult class over all and she tries to make it even harder. Punishes the class for not participating by giving extra quizzes and extra homeworks which are hard to do bc the class moves so quickly and she doesnt care to slow down. emabarrasses people in class if you dont know something and is almost impossible to get in contact with.
Great teacher and such a sweetheart! Wants you to do well. Gives lots of extra credit. TAKE HER!!!
Dr. S was BY FAR the best professor I have ever had! Very animated in lecture, TEACHES doesn't just read powerpoints. Very dedicated to her students. Went above and beyond to ensure we understood! Took it over the summer so it was fast paced-she even came in early to do extra review sessions!! 10 points extra credit online for every test! TAKE HER!
Tough material in general, but she is very fair. Gives plenty of chances to do extra credit and lab work. She is very passionate about chemistry and it comes through in her lectures.
I never understood Chemistry in HS. So I was super nervous about taking this class. I have to say that Dr S is wonderful - made a hard topic really interesting. The HW really helps prepare you for the tests and she drops your lowest lab. About 10pts extra credit available per test. Tests are hard, but an A is possible. Take her!
Dr. S is an amazing professor. I had to take the CHE sequence strictly out of requirement and didn't really enjoy CHE 133. However, because of Dr. S I was able to not only understand the material but enjoy it! She is always available and always goes above and beyond to motivate her students if YOU put in the effort. Take her, you won't regret it!
Dr. Sambasivan was fantastic! She gives a ton of extra credit. Show up to every class and lab, pay attention, study and an A is very possible. I took her during a summer session and it was VERY intense but I lived and breathed Chemistry for 5 weeks and got an A! She sets aside time to review before every test and stays after when needed.
she is a good teacher but not recommended for slow students because she is very fast. you have to move at a very fast pace as to catch up with the lectures. she cares about the students and have the willingness to help out. i recommend her.
worst ever. please dont take her.
Took her for Chem100, I'd say I was absolutely terrified after hearing how hard the subject is in general, but she teaches the easy way to help you and make sure you understand. Offers a lot of things to help raise your grade. She is so sweet, I highly recommend her probably one of my favorite professors I've ever had.
She would talk down to me and be sarcastic when I asked questions. Her lectures were straightforward I guess, but she skips through her slides before we have a chance to read them. And personally, I have a lot of trouble understanding peoples accents, and hers was especially difficult for me. Dont take her class if you are bad at math or accents.
Really great professor, her organization can be lacking at times but other than that she really tries to help and make you understand the material (if you put in the effort). Her home works are purely there for practice and are graded very lightly. She also has tones of practice material on her black board.
she made it understandable by going over lots of problems step by step. she is very understanding and caring and is willing to do anything to make sure that you do well in the class. she is a little messy with her notes but has a lot of extra credit. tests are a little hard but if you focus in class and study a lot then you'll do fine.
Amazing professor. She is very passionate about teaching and will do everything to help you pass. Very impressed with how fast she gets back to you, even if you email her late at night. Lectures are long, but if you focus, she makes the material easy to learn. Tests are difficult, but she has many office hours, and the online homework helps a lot.
Tests were very difficult but she gave extra credit on every test, online homework helped my grade a lot. Very lecture heavy
Amazing professor! Took her 5 week chem class & it was fun. She made chem understandable and managable. Previous reviews says she is unorganized and I completely disagree. All notes are available on her website. She goes over material step by step. She gives a lot of extra credit! Tests are just like prob in class. Easy A if you put the time
She cares about her students more than any other professor i have seen at Suffolk, she will delay a test if she feels the class is not ready, she will increase the amount of extra credit if the class did bad on an exam. If you do not do well in her class it is because you were not willing to put in the effort period.
She is probably the best teacher at suffolk and really knows her stuff! she is so incredibly sweet and is always ready to help you during class and after class. I went to her office hours a lot and it really helped. not a lot of homework but it's really good practice. dont buy the textbook! just study and practice and you will do fine! i love her
Very difficult to understand this professor. She changes her mind a lot and did not offer much opportunity for help or extra credit. Spent to much time with detail and not enough time helping you understand the work
very condescending & will laugh in your face if you ask a question that she thinks is stupid. doesn't curve grades even if you're 2 points away from a B. gives some extra credit. lectures fast. tricky tests. previous posts similar to mines have mysteriously disappeared.
Don't do it. She purposely tries to trick on tests, extra credit saved my grade. I barely missed class, I'm a 3.8 gpa student. Office hours crowded due to hard homework. If you're going to take her, take her lab also. She seems to like those students more. I struggled, studied a lot and just made a B+ because of my high lab average. Willing to help
Most sweetest and understanding professor ever! She is so passionate about Chemistry and will do her best to help you pass her class. Also gives a lot of extra credit for your benefit and easy to get in touch with. She is very hardworking, I highly recommend her for any subject she teaches. You will definitely miss her after the semester is over.
I had the pleasure of having professor Sambasivan and may I say she is the best. Although the course itself is difficult, she really pushes you to get a good grade. Here some things to note: there are five tests and a final. The labs are straight forward so long as you pay attention, and she is accessible outside of class (ask for her office hours)
I struggled intensely and at my worst she tried to pressure me with questions I couldnt answer and when I went to her office hours she suggested I withdraw, instead I went to her extra classes and sat in the library for hours with no end, my first two grades were below 50 my last three test grades were in the high 80s and 90s, still got just a C
I was in Professor Sambasivan's General Chemistry "hybrid" course last semester. The course was both lecture and online based. As long as you attend class and stay on top of the reading you can do very well! She gives extra credit for every exam even the final and is very approachable for extra help. I received an A and highly recommend her!
Wouldnt recommend to anyone. She has a very strong accent and talks very fast which made it hard to understand her lectures. With no background of chemistry, this class was extremely difficult for me because she rushed, gave so many notes & refused any questions during class. Not a helpful professor at all.
Dr. Sambasivan is a very good professor, she enjoys what she does which in turn makes the students/me more engaged in the class. She does a good job explaining the topics in CHE 2 and is very helpful if you don't understand something. The course work is harder if you don't put in the hours of studying, but I would definitely recommend Dr. S.
Dont recommend for anyone to take if you already struggle with chemistry .Very unhelpful and just overall rude. She makes up her own tests which are sometimes very difficult to understand. She teaches extremely fast during lecture so expect to go home and read the textbook to comprehend whats going on. Talks down on her students so beware.
Dr.S is a great professor if you are looking to pass chem 2. She gives extra credit assignments to help boost test scores. If the class does poorly she curves the test. Very fast to respond to email even in the odd hours of the night.
Do not take unless you plan on failing. Will make 3!!!! questions on *test* worth 40 points. English grammar is not the best in emails/quizzes/tests/study guides. hard to understand
Do practice problems, over and over again... Practice, Practice, practice... Math/equation heavy. Do your extra credit for every chapter..
I don't know how she is in person but online, she was terrible. She goes way too fast and is not very understanding. I broke my hand on the day a quiz was do and i sent her a picture of my note and it saying I couldn't type and she would not reopen the quiz for me and gave me a 0, with no way to even get a few points back.
She did real-time lecture on Blackboard but took advantage, by going over class time by 30 minutes. When asking her a question her exact words were, "Don't make me a fool here." She does not take time to explain problems when you need extra help during lectures. I will give her that she knows chemistry well, but is not the right person to teach it.
She does not care about their students. She made us come for the final exam in person, which was not scheduled, so be aware. She has their favorites students, and if you are not one of them, she treats you as a dumb student for All the class .She doesn't care if it is a holiday day. She made you take an exam and go over the regulars lecture hours.
Sharadha Sambasivan is the best chem professor I ever studied with, she is so caring for their students. She helps you understand all the concept and skills which you needed to solve the chem problem. she also gives you a lot of extra credit to increased your overall grade, if you read her notes and solve her practice problem you will get A.
She was my chem-100 lab professor, she cares about her students. She explains everything clearly to do the lab. She also drops one of your low lab grade.
Prof Sambasivan is a great chem professor if you struggle with chemistry and want a good grade. she offers plenty of office hours and extra credit to bump up your grade. the tests and homework were pretty straight forward but she is more than willing to help. it was definitely a lot of work but it paid off in the end. would definitely recommend!
Professor Sambasivan was truly a light in the darkness that was remote learning, for me. She makes an effort to empower all of her students, and gives everyone a fair shot at an A in the course. As a woman, I felt extremely supported by her generosity in terms of second chances at low-graded or missing assignments.
Professor Sambasivan is one of the best professors you can take for an intro chem course. I took her for a 6-week summer session. She is so sweet and offers many extra credit opportunities that go toward your test grades. Make sure you participate and use the practice tests to study for exams, as there are a lot of concepts to memorize.
Professor Sambasivan was a great professor. She's like a school mom who does care for you, but knows when you can be doing better. She's honest and wants the best for her students. I was in a car accident that left me falling behind in a one month summer session, and Mrs Sambasivan let me make up my work and answered all my questions through email
The best chem professor! She makes learning chemistry easy and she gives a ton of extra credit. She also very caring and is alway willing to help her students. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
Professor made attendance mandatory for lectures but told us "it's not her job to teach us this information" Then send you a prerecorded lecture from a previous semester and make you watch that to actually get any insightful information. Tests are often and difficult. She is rude and unhelpful and would say nothing is her responsibility.
I took this professor Fall of 2021. In the beginning of the semester, she told the class that if they didn't like chemistry, then we should drop. This was an introductory course, often required for majors regardless of enjoyment. She intentionally made the class more difficult to convince people to drop. She also brought religion into class.
Chemistry is a difficult subject, and I think this Professor is the best one you could go for this level of chemistry. She can teach the concepts very thoroughly and goes through exam questions during the lecture which can make it easy to understand the application. She does prolong the class 5-10 minutes almost every class so be prepared for that.
Caring, smart and energetic. She brought a lot of fun and energy to lecture. She was an extremely fair grader dropping the lowest homework and lab assignment. She gave extra credit for every test which if you did all of it increased your total final grade by 5 points. Her accent is minimal. I only couldn't understand two words the whole semester.
Professor Sambasivan is such a kind and caring teacher and I don't think I could have had a better experience for this class! She might be slightly disorganized with online material but otherwise she is great! She dropped the lowest test grade and provided plenty of opportunities for extra credit - there's no excuse to not get an A in her class.
Professor Sambasivan was incredible and such a caring professor. I'm horrible at chemistry, and I think I only passed one test, but the extra credit and grade dropping helped me so much. She wants her students to pass, is available outside of class, and labs were fun too. I highly recommend her. Difficult material, but an awesome professor.
Dr. Sambasivan was a great professor. Chem 2 is NOT a simple class no matter where you take it. You have to work to earn an A. If you show up to lecture & put in sufficient effort, then you can succeed in this class. Practice makes perfect in this class go to office hours with questions She treats the class like family, she wants you to succeed.
Pros: gives extra credit. nice person cons: unorganized. puts questions on tests that you didn't even learn. she's probably a very good professor in person. But online she was not the best
I took her Hybrid course where you go on certain days for lectures but mostly everything is online and you show up for lab. Well, she combined her lecture time with lab and it sucked!! also, she is very unorganized and not as good as teacher as everyone on RMP says. if you love your self do not take this class with her!!! find someone else
I took chem 133 and 134 with her. She teaches well and cares. One thing thats admirable is that she really does want you to pass. There's extra credit for each test and your lowest quiz grade is dropped. Her class is mandatory tho and she will be upset if you miss even one class. Study hard and attend classes and you can easily get at least a B.
Chem 2 is the hardest subject I have ever taken. The only reason I passed was because of all the extra credit points she gives out. She is very caring and she wants to make sure you attend every lecture so you do not miss anything or fall behind.
I'm going to be honest, chem 2 isn't my strong suit and she will still allowing me to pass with a D and now I got to move forward with organic chemistry. I'm very grateful for everything that she has taught as she truly did want every single student to succeed. If I could take her again I would. But as advice just make sure your practicing a lot
The worst
Dont take very unorganized trust me. Did 2 years at suffolk with harder classes this was the only class i ever had a problem with.
lots of passive-aggressive comments, unorganized, doesn't give breaks + gets mad at people for going to the bathroom between lab and lecture also kept us almost 30 mins after lecture was supposed to end, ok teacher doesn't explain things well, expects chemistry to be your whole life (time wise) and doesn't realize we have other classes
She wants everyone to pass you just have to be willing to put in the work. She provides every opportunity for you to excel.
This is my second time taking Chem 2 and it is still just as hard. Dr. S is a very caring professor in a passive aggressive way. She will call you out if you don't attend class. She gives plenty of opportunity to excel though. I failed her first exam, was given extra credit and continued to pass with flying colors for the rest of the semester.
Honestly just don't.. don't take her. That's all I have to say
Labs are fine. Lectures are boring. Caring and good person but doesn't want to do her job.
idk if it's this professor or what but we spent the whole semester putting more emphasis on how to solve problems instead of focusing on truly understanding the material conceptually, which is what is on the final:just concepts
Professor Sambasivan is caring and wants students to succeed. While Chem 2 is challenging, her extra credit and grade dropping policies make it manageable. Attending class and practicing regularly are key. Unstuck study was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
Do not take. Condescending, doesn't speak proper English, selfish, gives extra credit but stingy about it, has a huge ego, and will def pick on you.
I had to take this teacher for a Gen Chem 2 Credit.... Meanest teacher I have ever had. If you ask questions, she treats you like an idiot, and will call you out. Will express dislike for you. The material itself was taught well, but make sure you have a thick skin. Good luck!
Honestly your grade reflects how much you're willing to put in effort into your class she is generous for a professor like for a example for hw she only takes off 1 point per day late and in my class she reopened hws like last 2 weeks of the semester and allowed up to 80% to those that didn't do it and allowes extra credit for exams max of 10 each
She is very passive-aggressive and will definitely pick on you. You really have to participate in the class. If you put in effort, you can do decently in the class. She gives out extra credit for all exams, which is nice. But I won't take her again because the lectures are boring, and if you miss one lecture.
This was my first time taking a course at Farmingdale & my second time taking general chemistry 2. This professor breaks down difficult concepts with ease. I took her for the summer and she really does want everyone to succeed. If given the opportunity, take her!
Great professor!
Tedious lectures on top of her accent that took me a month to understand. Participate otherwise she will get passive aggressive w you and assign extra work. If shes your professor i would pray for you but praying didnt save me.
I always have struggled with chem but she is so understanding and kind. Very available if you needed help and always responds to emails.
Overall, she was a decent professor, but her teaching style wasn't my preference and her exams felt unnecessarily difficult. Other professors don't make them that hard. Frequent class disruptions went unaddressed, which was frustrating and distracting. However, she offers a lot of extra credit, lectures don't make much sense so thats probably why.
