Sharandeep I believe is down an amazing individual, but not exactly the best proff. His rather heavy Indian accent makes it a bit harder to understand, however, I think you can catch on to his teaching style. Some things were not clear, but due to his accent, it was simply hard to understand. Says no one would get below 80% in his class. Not true.
He has really great and comprehensive notes which are useful not just for class but even after. I loved his lectures and he was also very responsive with emails. His lectures are very useful as well. Would take him again!
He reads off the slides to teach and gives examples while in class. He is however a bit hard to understand due to his accent, but overall the lecture slides are enough to help you understand the material. This course had 4 group work labs where you were randomly assigned in groups. Most of the time you were left doing the lab by yourself.
Be prepare to work hard for this course. But you can always goto the professor during his office hour for extra tutoring. I found them really useful.
Dr. Pandher is a great professor. He effortlessly navigates complex topics, making them accessible and engaging for all student. Dr. Pandher is commited to creating a collaborative and supportive environment for all students. He is very useful in his office hours and he provides detailed feedback on projects.
He is really a amazing professor. He is patient to answer all the questions that we are confused at and his lecture is also detailed and easy to understand.
His accent is hard to understand. I had to watch lecture videos from other professors to understand what was going on.
Nice fella, he provides amazing support on his office hours. The course itself sucks a ton, his accent makes it hard to understand, and he paces the class a bit too fast. Just like any other stat161 class the homework will take a long time to complete. Each taking 6-10 hours. Lectures were pretty much useless, watch videos instead.
Pandher is the greatest of all time, top G in all regards. I ain't tryna glaze too hard but he really cared about how well prepared we were for exams and really sacrificed his time even out of class to plan on how to best prepare us for the exams. Absolute sigma male no cap, haters gonna hate about his accent but its fire
Sharandeep Panther is a decent prof but his lectures are sometimes hard to understand due to his accent. He sometimes gives good tips for finals
He was not a good prof. I walked into that semester excited for this class in particular, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with this prof. He has a sharp accent and can be difficult to understand. His writing on the board was at times very hard to read, he held the microphone way to close to his mouth making it even harder to understand him.
Pandher is a great Professor at University of Alberta. Office hours are useful and provides valuable notes. He assisted me well for the exam during class. Gave some special tricks and strategics for Midterm and Final Exam . I would highly recommend this professor
Sharandeep is amazing professor. He provides good feedback for the projects and explains things very clearly. He has a good command on r-programming.
Professor Pandher is an amazing professor.
Great guy
Professor Pandher is an amazing professor. Make sure to attend all the lectures as well go to his office hours as he is willing to help you. I 100% recommend taking his class.
He was very funny, but respectfully (I'm sure he's a great guy) he's not a great professor. He has a thicc accent but he's a nice guy.
Perfect lectures and a responsible professor.
Very thick accent and messy writing. He had many technical difficulties during class which took up a lot of class time. I had to watch Rosana Fok's videos to actually understand what was going on.
I followed his instructions during course and got good grades.
Flat out if you cannot understand his accent don't push it. I almost spent as much time learning the course as I did trying to figure out what he is saying. Not his fault of course but I would recommend you pick another professor instead.
Highly recommended Professor Pandher as Caring and easily understandable of his teaching style during the class.
The professor is easily accessible outside of class and very helpful when encountering a problem. I suggest you attend his lectures after watching the videos to understand the course material better and answer the practice questions immediately after finishing a module. And ask the questions posted in his notes as they are beneficial.
Don't take this guy choose another professor. Me and all my friends had to go attend another professors class because he was so bad
He knows what he is talking about, I do not doubt that. However, I haven't bothered to come to any of his lectures after the midterm because I was better off creating my notes and practicing the course material based upon online lectures recorded in 2020. Studying on my own, I achieved a 25/30 on the midterm.
Thanks to Sharandeep Sir, I was able to do well in my Stats class. He is very supportive and helps his students a lot. He fosters a positive learning environment by encouraging students to ask questions and he definetely answers them by allowing flexible office hours through appointments as well.
It was great to learn from him. I loved the Time series lectures and notes and was very knowledgable and considerate with feedback. I would definitely take his class again if I could!
Unfortunately I do not recommend taking this professor's classes. He is not great at explaining concepts in different ways, and doesn't really educate on the topics; he just kind of talks about them then moves on. I did better by watching the videos from other professors and teaching myself the material.
The lecture is good, it's inportant to participate. Professor will introduce every concept and sometimes even give more additional content to help us. Also exam review session is important, it's vital to take part in.
all the concepts are very easy to understand, and he willing to answer student's question
doesn't explain things properly. Had to study by myself.
Go to another prof, he not good.
I received A+ grade. Pandher is wonderful Professor and useful during office hours.
Mediocre teaching. Goes over stuff, but gives no intuition.
Good prof. Really easy to get a high score. Would definitely take this class again
You can try him if you want but probably not that great, I went to another profs lecture and learned from online mostly.
doesn't know how to explain topics class average was a 1.7 and there still was no curve
Topics are well taught. Office hours are extremely helpful to clarify concepts. Highly recommended to attend lectures. Overall very good prof.
Alright, if you just want an easy A in a course. He wants everything in the course project to be done exactly as it is in the course notes. If you try something different that isn't in the course notes, points will be deducted without much explanation. Cares too much about attendance. Grading of assignments and projects is inconsistent.
His accent is unbearable and his lectures are incredibly boring. Everything can be learnt through the videos online in place of attending his lectures.
Very bad professor who was difficult to understand and did not answer questions. The only reason people do well is because the class is very easy. Not even worth attending lectures, easier to learn it yourself.
VERY heavy accent, so it's hard to follow and actually learn much in class. He often comes across as arrogant and dismissive during interacting with students. But he grades assignments and exams pretty easily.
While I don't think his teacher style is particularly great, I think he's a genuinely nice guy who wants you to succeed and gets too much hate. He's pretty funny and chill as well
If you get this professor, try to switch to a different section. He writes his notes with a mouse, and you can definitely tell.
In his lecture, He repeats the note he posts on eclass and does not do a single practise question in class. The concept itself is not very difficult, but his teaching style makes it way harder to understand.
His class is exceptional! Attending every session virtually guarantees an A. Unlike other courses, there are no midterms or final exams—just group projects that align closely with the lecture material. If you're looking for a break from stressful exams, this class is an excellent choice.
Dr. Sharandeep really cares about his students and wants them to succeed in the course. His notes are really useful and make going through the assignments and projects a breeze. Attending his lectures regularly guarantees a very good grade. Would take again.
Worst prof i have ever had
He is one of the best professor I have known so far. All the concepts in the class are taught very well and helps very nicely with doubts. ensures that everyone understands the concept well and has best teaching skills. I would highly recommend to take course with him and you would not struggle much.
This isn't really a hard class. The concepts are pretty easy to grasp and the lab also feels quite useful to familiarize with Excel functions. However, this prof makes the class much harder than it would be otherwise. He's hard to understand, and his notes are pretty rough to follow. Don't let the practice tests fool you. The exams are much worse.
He is an one of a kind prof, will tell you to google it or check pre-req if you have questions, very supportive and he makes the final exam very easy, for anyone with 2 PHDs. Would recommend him!
Top professor. He will tell you to look carefully whenever you asks questions, clearing all the confusion you may have. He will also tell students to look at the lecture notes if anyone asks questions on the final exam, even though the final was closed book. Highly recommend as it is a very eye opening class. Thank you Dr Sharandeep Sir.
If I were to describe him in one phrase, it's "Master of misleading expectations and look carefully." He started with homework from an unpublished paper, (extension of the dimension of zero vector), and assured us the final would be easier than the midterm, needing only basic definitions. Instead, it was longer and more complex, redefining "basic."
A really good professor. He would teach u how to be carefully which is really useful in study and life. He said if u can do the practice exams well, u will get a wonderful grade. However, the midterm and final exam are different from the practice, not related at all. This unexpectation benefits ur whole life, cuz u never know what will happen tmr.
Dr. Sharandeep Pandher, will easily be your favourite prof if you can look, see and read carefully. Also always make sure to check pre-reqs as that is the best way to figure out your unanswered questions. Exams are very fair as long as your ignore his suggests on what won't be covered as they usual show up on the exam.
Dr. Dr. Pandher's classes are an experience that you will never want to miss in your life. He has tremendous knowledge of statistics and a plethora of unpublished theorems that will help you reach unseen heights in mathematics. Students have a chance to crack his unsolvable theorems on HW and on exams, which can be solved by looking carefully.
My time in stats 378 was simply amazing. I was able to grasp such a strong understanding of my pre-reqs as majority of stat378 questions lie in the archives of past course lecture notes. If you are ever confused about the lecture notes, simply just see your lecture notes. And if you have any questions, maybe you didnt really see your lecture notes.
Lectures were bad. He just read a PDF for most of the class and refuses to answer questions saying to read the notes, but he constantly ends the class early. Written HW is hard, and the exams too. He does, however, tend to grade very nicely, and its easy to get partial marks. The prereq classes (266) definitely do not prepare you for this.
Good professor, come to his office hour then you will get a good mark.
Dr. Sharandeep is an passionate mathematics professor. Their deep understanding of mathematical concepts and rigorous approach to problem-solving are truly inspiring. In the classroom, they excel at breaking down complex topics into clear and manageable explanations, often incorporating real-world examples to make the material more relatable.
The lectures were amazing. I gained insight into the magnificent and exciting world of regression each day. His notes - immaculate. Office hours - impeccable. I could feel the size of my brain increasing throughout the course. The exams were fun. It's rare that such an extraordinary prof comes along.
Dr. Pandher's classes challenge and reward attention to detail. STAT 378 emphasizes lecture notes and prerequisites for success. Exams are fair but may include surprises, encouraging critical thinking. His engaging style makes learning statistics a memorable experience.
Very good notes and lectures. Makes it easy to understand the content when he goes through lectures. Go to office hours and get a good grade. Very easy to understand
Best professor so far and first A+ I ever received!
TERRIBLE PROF! AVOID HIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS! You can not understand a word he says. His notes are so so messy, you can't read a single thing. He is rude when answering the most basic questions. Please listen when I say avoid this prof at all costs. Total waste of money on this class when I need to teach myself the concepts anyway.
2 days into the class. Somehow his notes just make it harder to learn as he writes overtop of a pre-existing pdf file, covering up the legible notes with his chickenscratch. Now you can't read OR understand anything he says. Would recommend the class if you're looking to hone in your listening skills. If not, stay home
Sir sharandeep the great is the Jesus of statistics, as he has descended from heaven to spread the beauty of stats to all his pupils. Lectures? Impeccable. Accent? Sexy, attractive, and very understandable. Everything about the way sir sharandeep teaches is unparalleled compared to other stats profs. Like sir sharandeep says, easy A
Absolutely terrible. The notes he goes through in the lectures aren't helpful. It's also hard to understand what he is explaining in class, so I end up just going home and teaching it to myself. Would not recommend.
I can't even begin to fathom how amazing Sir Sharandeep Pandher is as a statistics professor. His honor and prestige with his two PhD's truly emanates in his lectures and he will be sure to remind you of them. I can't even imagine taking STAT235 with any other professor other than the king of statistics himself. Thank you Dr Sharandeep Sir.
I cannot understand what he says. He is literally the one unmarketable tomato meme reincarnated. His writing is chicken scratch, as he uses his mouse to write. Repeats the same word four times, yet it makes less sense each time. The notes aren't even his, yet he still manages to mess them up. It is better to skip class and teach yourself.
I cannot express enough how much I enjoyed Professor Sharandeep Pandher's classes. He has a remarkable gift for explaining even the most complex statistical concepts in a way that feels intuitive and approachable.Professor Pandher's classes were, without a doubt, one of the highlights of my academic journey!
Oh. My. Goodness. Sharandeep Pander. Tears, literal tears sharandeep. Your teaching resonates deep within my heart. It's something where I can look out my window, drink some coffee, and really touch with. Sharandeep, how are you able to use your words to penetrate through the human soul in such an exquisite way? It was an honour, my master.
Doctor Sharandeep is the goat !!!! Me and all of my friends would skip our classes to attend his lecture! The soothing voice would tickle my ears, it was a delight! I would sit in the front row staring at the beautiful notes that doctor Sharandeep would present to us with unfathomable joy! This class is the best choice if you are taking STAT 235!
Behold! The one, the only, the absolutely legendary Lord Sharandeep Pandher! A name so powerful, so divine it echoes through the halls of greatness. If you have not yet basked in the radiant glory of Lord Sharandeep Pandher, what are you even doing with your life? DROP EVERYTHING! Worship! Praise! Rejoice!
Great educators have the power to inspire, challenge, and transform the lives of their students. Among such remarkable figures, Professor Sharandeep Pahnder stands as a beacon of wisdom, passion, and unwavering beautifulness. His majestic presence gets me so hard and he leaves a profound impact on those fortunate enough to learn from him
Oh my lord. Does UofA just not have the budget for a decent STAT teacher? I'm sure he's a decently smart guy but jeez he is a horrendous teacher. Yeah, his accent is bad, but even if he spoke perfectly clear, he would still be a terrible teacher. I watch the pre-recorded lectures and attend lecture just to get somewhat comfortable with the material
Not only does this teacher have a horrible way of communicating stats, he doesn't seem to know it himself. On numerous occasions his logic has conflicted with his own reasoning and his neglect to realize that leads you to be even more confused than if you were to teach it to yourself. This ends up being the case as you will have to teach yourself.
Ignore any of the positive comments, this man is the epitome of judging a fish by its ability to climb a tree.Stats and teaching are not the job for you big boy, and maybe if you tried reading the silly ass, scribbles that you call notes then you would see that. Save your money and take it to the casino, you're more likely to get something from it.
Some people are born teachers, or at least they can learn to teach. This man did neither. He writes his notes with a mouse, and his accent is the most un-understandable thing I have ever heard, so thick you couldn't cut it with a knife. The man is fighting a battle with statistics, and losing. Do not recommend, take another professor is possible.
I have no words to describe how terrible of a prof this man is
Sharandeep, I'm going to hold your hand when I say this... teaching may not be for you. Research? yes. Writing a book? maybe? Audio books? yes, you will put the masses to sleep, but teaching no. If you're considering taking his class, don't. If you do, drop out. It will be easier to explain to your parents then failing out because of one class.
DO NOT TAKE STATS 161 WITH PANDHER. I am literally begging you. Notice how over half of the positive reviews for him seem over-exaggerated? Perhaps too good to be true? They are. Because you do not want to take stats with this man. I'm sure he's a great guy but he is an awful prof, DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU WANT TO TEACH YOURSELF THIS CLASS.
Sharendeep… Respectfully, you're not meant for teaching. You don't know the material. Some say you should do research, but honestly, you're not fit for that either. At the very least, please please stop teaching. Do NOT take his class. Those positive reviews are likely fake or jokes.
...........
Sharandeep Pandher is the Messiah of STAT 235, resurrecting GPAs with the holy spirit of standard deviation. His lectures are sermons, his formulas sacred scripture. He parts confusion like Moses split the sea, and breathes life into the lost with statistical truth. Blessed are his students—for theirs is the kingdom of the bell curve.
Sharendeep may have the credentials to teach stats, but that doesn't translate into effective teaching. It's unclear if he fully understands the content, and there's a major language barrier. It's nearly impossible to follow what he says or writes in class. If you're in his class, expect to teach yourself everything. Take Rosana Fok if possible.
His rating is way overinflated by satire reviews, read them and you'll get a good laugh. But if you're in his class, you'll be doing nothing but crying. No idea how he was hired. He can't even communicate in English... how's he supposed to teach stats then?
He is ver helpful once you attend his office hours. He will make sure you are focusing and studying the right material. I recommend reaching out for his help if you are struggling.
This stats course was terrible. Lectures and notes were useless, and nothing was explained properly. Questions went unanswered, and I had to rely on YouTube to understand anything. I learned nothing and felt completely unsupported. This course needs serious change. This class needs a better instructor, plain and simple.
STAT 161 with Sharandeep was by far the worst experience in education I've ever had. The fact that he was even hired in the first place reflects incredibly poorly on the university. I don't usually find math difficult, but because of this prof, it was ridiculously stressful; I had to put in twice as much work to do half as well as my other classes.
Gonna be honest, I only went to the first 2 lectures. You literally can't understand a single word he says and he doesn't speak English. I looked at his notes for the first time of the entire semester and it was chicken scratch. I showed his notes to my friend, and she thought it was some cryptic code. Take Rosana Fok or watch her videos on eclass.
His teaching style is clear, organized, and easy to follow. The course structure is well-planned, with clear expectations and fair grading. The course workload is manageable, and assignments align well with what's taught in lectures. I recommend choosing him if you have this course.
I know that it is hard for someone to present in front of a class, but it felt that he read off of his notes and due to how heavy of an accent he has it wasn't easy to learn. During the Stat 161 class that I was in, only around ~25% of people showed up. I recommend changing professors before you take this course if you have to put up with Pandher.
This professor made me reconsider my life choices, as if someone who doesn't speak any English and doesn't do their job can get hired, surely I can aspire to get employed somewhere that isn't McDonalds.
Professor Pandher was a great a nice professor who gave you all the tools you needed to clearly learn and do well in the class. He was a very kind and accessible professor who made it his goal to get to know each student and he really made it feel like he cared about his students.
He was a great professor who gave us a bunch of resources we needed to do our assignments and learn from the class. The group project was a very fun time and he was always giving hints and helpful tips on what to do he also really cares about his students
I have no words to describe how terrible of a prof this man is
Godsend for Intro to Stats. Great notes, great lectures, don't believe me? These reviews speak for themselves. Very evident that he provides all the required resources. REMEMBER to choose the correct answers for MCQs.
Sharandeep Sir, where do I even start with a man like you? Handsome? Check. Tall? Check. Stats god? Check. Bestowing your statistics greatness onto your fellow pupils instead of only aurafaming the whole lecture really won my heart over. Take sharandeep if you want statistics to be a treat, or if you want a treat for your eyes ;).
After being blessed with the opportunity of having taken this man's class, I must say, I feel sympathetic towards him. He is stuck in a ruthless war between his rightful supporters and his dishonorable skeptics. No matter who you are and what you believe, just know Sharandeep sir is a statistics emperor, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
Legendary Prof, easy A. Guys notes saved me.
Amazing professor! Lectures are super clear, organized, and engaging. Explains complex math/stats concepts with simple examples, making them easy to understand. Assignments and exams are fair and reflect the lectures. Very approachable and always willing to help during office hours, and creates a positive learning environment! Highly recommend!
Professor Sharandeep is absolutely incomprehensible verbally. He reads off of a messy pre-noted PDF, while occasionally adding on illegible scribbles that add no educational value to the course. He is not teaching; he is re-reading prewritten notes, expecting us to absorb everything without elaboration. Taught myself this course in the end.
Ah yes, Sir Sharandeep, the hero we didn't ask for but definitely deserved. Out of all semesters, he chose this one to bless us with in-person quizzes — because nothing says “I care” like forcing students into subzero weather for a 5% grade. Truly a visionary in turning "minor inconvenience" into an LEARNING OPPORTUNITY.
I ditched his class 2 weeks in and relied on Rosanna Folk's videos. Not because he was incomprehensible, useless, or wrote notes that looked like hieroglyphics. It was because his beauty was too much to handle and I could not bring myself to focus on anything else other than his glorious sculpture of a body and the angelic melody of his accent
Sharandeep is the best thing since Ghandi. This man is not a professor he is a blessing from the academic heavens. The equations align themselves out of respect. When he explains confidence intervals, I gain confidence in life itself. When he says p-value, I get goosebumps. His lectures are so clear, even Excel bows down and says, “Yes, Sir."
Oh my where would I be in life without my savior Sharandeep? Singlehandedly saving all of our STAT 235 marks with his incredible arousing accent and notes, I would deem him the messiah of the stats department.
Gandhi? No. Mandela? No. Rosa Parks? Maybe. But I believe him to be the second coming of Christ. The hope and inspiration he shared with the class was radiant. I believe he is meant for more than teaching; he may be the final solution to all world conflict. Idolize this professor while he still roams amongst us.
He is a knowledgeable and dedicated instructor who explains complex concepts clearly and systematically. The course was well organized, and the lectures were logically structured, which greatly facilitated my understanding of the material. I particularly appreciated the emphasis on critical thinking
The course placed strong emphasis on analytical reasoning and precise understanding of key concepts. Through well-designed lectures and assignments, the professor encouraged students to think critically and engage deeply with the material. This course significantly contributed to my academic development.
