kinda weird and funny. helped me write totally great papers. i went to her office and she helped me rework stuff. helpful.
I had to drop this class because I wrote a paper about my career of choice and somewhere in the text I wrote how many credit hours you needed. She failed the paper and said it was plagiarism because I got that out of the student handbook. She wouldn't let me fix it!
She does her job, that's for sure, but she unpredictable. She writes a lot of her own tests and doesn't put very pertinent questions on them. If you want a reliable A I would try to avoid her class.
I can't believe that someone posted this lady is doing the doob. She's the straightest person I've ever met. Anyway I got a B in her class and worked my butt off. She's not bad, but she's no dope smoker.
Best prof at ICC! and I've had some duds. Goes over stuff so taht you can understand it. Graded all my papers fast. She's great!

Very helpful knows how to keep your intrest, attendance policy is strict but was not a problem for me. would recommend taking this teacher
Hmm.. Engl 105 is a joke... I felt like I could of been in 110...helpful, strict, funny, weird, prompt....all of these describe her in my opinion. Consider retaking the test to get into 110 for real! But I guess I would recommend her
She is odd and i kinda felt a monkey could teach me better but hey it was a easy class. If you dont want to be bored to death please just tru to retest into eng 110. Dont waste your time
WORST English teacher I've ever had. I took this class as a Hybrid class. I DO NOT RECOMMEND***You CANNOT miss ONE day of class. If you're ONE minute late to class you recieve Zero credit for Everything you do that day in class but she doesn't tell you till the end of class..Constant headache & stress
Very anal about work. Extremely critical. Expects 11o students to write papers equivalent to that of an English major. Only allows writing lab to review One page of papers. Sort of entertaining nonetheless...
Shes very strict,but very helpful! She was really great to me and i appreciated her a lot! I think some people rate her bad because they dont want to do the work she gives, which shouldnt be very hard!

Horrible!!!! I have a online class with her, and she doesnt explain things, and she never seems to get any of my assignments, and i dropped for a 96, to a 70 because she "never" got my assignments. Get a different teacher if possible

I'm taking this class online and she's the only teacher I could finally understand! My last two online teachers sucked... didn't explain anything, posted stuff at all times of day and night with random due dates. This lady has weekly folders with what's due when and always the same due dates so I don't have to think about it. Best online teacher!
I had to take this as a hybrid class which freaked me out. But this teacher spells eveything out so that you can do work and get credit. I did great in this class because I came on class days but I heard that other slackers who only did the online work freaking failed. I dug this class and would totally do another hybrid or online with this teacher
Gotta be there on time or you get credit for nothing. Kind of hard on grading, but I got help from her a bunch o times outside of class and did good. Lots of whiners in my class failed cause they didn't do jack. Their loss. She's a good teacher.
If u can get out, get out. It's an easy class but, she is very hard to follow. Not a very understanding person at all.
i think shes extremely hard and when i try hard and still do my best. such as going to the writing lab, she hesitates to give me a good grade even when i deserve it because i always put effort.
She was alright. Didn't really teach much. It was more about writing your paper and she will tell you what you're doing wrong. If you don't go ask her what your doing wrong, you won't do great in this class.
I had dinkins for engl 105. she is very helpful when it comes to papers. she offers one on one time and really tries to make you understand what she wants. her personality is a little unusual. but a very good teacher. class for the most part was intersting. she involves the class in her lectures. I wish i could of teken her for 110. good teacher

bad teacher, she is horable when it comes to attendence. also she graded our film papers (35 %) of a grade as she would grade an english paper. Therefore half of us got D's on that paper.
Great teacher if you want to lower your GPA. I went over a rough draft with her she told me the paper was a B quality paper. She suggested some changes before I turned in the final. I made changes and she gave me a D on the paper!
great teacher if you want a bad grade. she doesnt help at all with work tells you your paper is a certain grade and then its way lower then what she said. she treats us like little kids makes the whole room circle up like its story time or something. she should be a 1st grade teacher rather than a college professor.

she is horrible if you are late one min u get no credit for the class. If you are sick have to be at a doctr appt or a court date the work doesn't count.

I loved Miss. Shari! I didn't see anything wrong with her policies. Just like a job, if you are late then you loose pay. This class is no different. Very helpful and easy to talk to. She dont mind you having your cell phone, just cant touch it unless you excused yourself from the class. Recommend 100%!
You can't be 1 min. late or its a 0. even if u have doc excuse. Not easy on u and gives no extra credit. Not helpful when u talk to her. Seems to don't care if u fail or pass. I did pass the class.
A good teacher but dont miss her classes she'll report you for bad attendance and if you miss one day she'll drop your average at least 20 points i had an 86 and it was 68 by the time i missed one day of class and she knew about it for two weeks

She is Very strict about being there the moment class starts. terms on quizzes and from book are pretty basic. the class itself isn't bad. Shari is incredibly weird. Presentation is easy. The one paper was kinda hard to understand fully what she wanted but I got a B with very little effort. View every movie description before enrolling!!!!!

I was kicked out of class like 2 or 3 times for not following her rules correctly. She is by far one of my favorite teachers. She is very straight forward and direct and that really helped me. I passed the class with a B. Oh yeah she does not mess around with grades... so your papers better be really good grammar wise.

Great teacher if you want a terrible grade. she does not want to help you nor does she care if you pass the class. always telling kids they should just drop the class if they have a question. treats us like babies and makes us sit in a circle to read. WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS TEACHER!!!

Dinkins is a good teacher, and can make you a better writer. She is a stickler for being present and ontime, and has a strict policy for deadlines. Perfect example of what a college teacher should be like.

Professor Dinkins was a great teacher. She was very enthusiastic in her teaching and informative when she needed to be. However, I was forced to drop the class halfway through after forgetting to cite my sources in a paper, and she gave me the option to withdraw or be reported to the administration. I'm not bitter, though, since it was my mistake.
Nice lady, but too picky without clear directions. I asked her for review of most of my papers...I would take her advice and make the changes, but my grade did not reflect my effort. Most of my papers received good grades, but one paper (the first) received a poor grade and it made the rest of the semester difficult.
Xcellent teacher.

Her teachings seems confusing.
I used to get Ds in english even tho instructors knew I had a disability. Sheri D helped me outside of class and didn't make it anyone else's businzees about my disability. Its the first time I got an A on assigments! She is great.

Makes directions very confusing, gives advice on papers but grade doesn't improve upon the changes with advice she gives. doesn't always follow her own rules
OMG this teacher has made this class easier and easier cause there are so many idiots in this class. some girls don't even read the book or do any notes. Now the teacher is giving away test questions now! How much easier can she make it? I swear. ICC is totally 13th grade.

Tough class. Lots of work outside the classroom. Be sure you know proper English and Grammer in writing essays and papers. Fast paced teacher that seems to Crack herself up which can get a little awkward.
Good teacher. I couldnt find out anyting about her until I took the class. but I did okay. Comes off as strict but will help u if you see her but dont ask for favors during class. she only helps you and excuses you if you see her in office

BEST TEACHER EVER! I had her for study skills for child dev 120 w the hardest teacher! She really helped us study for this class and I wouldn't have done as good in this class without her! She was so nice she brought in food and prizes for us! One day she even bought pizza for child 120! She even called me to ask how I did in that class:)

I took this as a mini-mester and expected it to be a harder class from the get go. Shari plays favorites and when you ask for help, she will tell you to read her notes, not offering further explanation. Make sure and sit in the front of the class, she likes people in the front more (she admitted it).
Shari is crazy, but in a good way. She wants the papers a certain way and if she doesn't like them, you better change it. I will miss having her as a teacher. She was my very first teacher at ICC and she was fantastic.
Her Films class is not a blow off! I took it because it sounded like an easy A but ended up being my toughest class. She's a pretty nice lady if you ask for help but is a tough grader. Have to read for the quizzes which are every class and there are 2 papers which weren't terrible but were time consuming. Still, was nice to watch movies in class.
Okay, I got a B in this class, but a whole lot of slackers didn't even pass. a bunch of kids I talked to never even cracked the book open so what did they expect. Anyway if you're willing to do the work, Dinkins will help you. If you're a slacker, then you won't pass. Be warned.
Hard class to take during a mini semester its a ten day hell so if you're hoping to get off easy it aint happening. Slackers did bad here but I'm getting a B so I'm not worried that said it's a good class. Dinkins bends over backwards to help students just don't think its a blow off class.

Mrs Dinkins is a great teacher she is fun and outgoing but watch out for her early sugar high on those candy bars and if you can focus on her work and will more likely find some math mistakes and you will also find few English mistake.
Mrs Dinkins wasn't a good teacher during my semester I had her for my humanities 110, it's unfair for her to take away all the points if you leave class a couple minutes early, she doesn't have enough work or extra credit, the quizzes are too short and insufficient doesn't give students enough time to study or learn.

I took it for minimester, I'd say I wouldn't take her as a professor again. She is nice as a person, but doesn't have consideration for students. I took it during december and one time I was a minute late because the snow and traffic at that time was terrible and she didn't let me take the quiz. She said unless I got in a wreck and I got proof.
THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN ICC.
The instructor ran the course coldly and without compassion for the students. The midterm/final exams took forever to complete(3 Hrs each). It's a freshman level 100 course. My enjoyment for films has been eliminated after the course and this professor. I may never enjoy another film again. If you feel the need to lower your GPA, take this class.
I took this class for FILM110 and I would say she has no consideration to her students. She seems nice but when it comes to being considerate she is not that teacher at all. She seem to play favoritism as well.
Asks for a lot of writing, but gives you low down up front. No suprises. Great teacher. Will help you out totally.

This class has no prerequisites but you are treated as though you should be an English major. I had not taken in English class in over 13 years and was made to feel dumb. She makes fun of past students and fellow teachers. Very much a her way or the highway class. Does not go by the book but her own personal style of grading.

She's very helpful & patient. She shows things 2 help u understand the context. She gives u notes 2 study for every chapter.. If u study u AND come to class, u will pass. If not u won't. She's very fair but not a pushover!

Be ready to read, this is one of the three most pathetic teachers I have had and they have all been at ICC. This lady is a poor excuse for a teacher. She has you believe she is organized and wants to be helpful all while posting regurgitated material from years past with wrong dates and days because she was too lazy to update it herself!
RIDICULOUS! Resume was one assignment. I sent mine in and she gave me a low grade, I am already a professional and I got a great job with that resume! She is always on a power trip, first bad grade she suggested dropping class rather than helping me. Never helpful or organized, always condescending & degrading students. Never positive!

I took Film because I love movies, I expected to learn something new too. I felt she makes up for people trying to take an easy class. Her tests are mostly fill in the blank, so be ready.

She does a great job of explaining what is expected. If you work hard you will get a good grade. It helps to meet with Ms. Dinkins one-on-one, you will get a better idea of her expectations. I learned a lot in this class.
I had a dreadful experience with Prof. Dinkins. She was condescending, unhelpful, and patronizing. Perhaps she felt threatened by prior writing experience? Maybe you'll fare better if just learning to write. I'm glad that it seems as though others had a lovely time with her, but I was very unfortunately misled by the positive reviews on RMP.
Weak Instuctor
I'm not the greatest writer and Prof Dinkins did little to help me. I really wanted to succeed but was left with an empty feeling of rejection from her. I did not want to feel bad about myself and my abilities but she destroyed my self confidence. Don't seek her as an instructor.

Shari is a great teacher but she's a bit eccentric/spacey. .She's a tough grader but it sees like she bases it off of your ability rather than using a general grading style. Quizzes are easy, usually 4-5 questions. She doesn't mind if you skip class occasionally but she sometimes give credit for showing up. If you go to class you'll be fine.

I think she is a tough grader, I went to the learning lab several times and still scored low. I feel she doesn't have the time to teach. She speaks fast and spends two minutes with you before saying bye go to the learning lab. This woman can be condescending, extremely strict on attendance. I respect attendance but 30sec - 1min late come on.

I do not recommend taking this teacher. The essays that she assigned were comparable to essays that I did in grade school. She took off points on my papers for using words that were too formal and for adding too much detail. When meeting with her during office hours, she acted extremely juvenile and started arguing with me. Very unprofessional.
all my years of highschool i was an A writer & even enjoyed it. Shari made me hate writing. I never got more than a C. Even when i went to the studio to get help, they would tell me we dont even know what she wants. Or you will love writing again its not this hard I absolutely dreaded going to her class and the rest of my class felt The same.

make sure your in class everyday and make sure your on time, she wont let you make anything up and she will also take points away. Your constantly working in this class and she is NOT helpful with anything ! She grades based on her own opinions. It's very hard to get anything above a C with her. Do yourself a favor and get a different teacher.
Absolutely awful she definitely does not want to help her students she told me there is nothing she can do to advise me. Gave me 0% for rough drafts and papers that have been turned in and I spent time writing.
Doesnt care about helping you succeed. She gave very negative and vague feedback. I would make all the changes she asked for and submitted my assignments to the studio several times like she suggested. I would still get low scores on my final essays. I have never struggled in English or gotten below an A on a paper. Condescending and not helpful.
Falsely accused me of plagiarism on a paper and failed me. I had two college graduate friends check it over and neither of them could find anything majorly wrong with the paper. Sent back evidence that the citations were present and received nothing but hostile responses. Class ended up being dropped for me without my consent. Awful.
Her grading criteria was never clear. I had several tutors proofread each assignment and would still end up with a C. On the rough draft, she wouldnt explain why she didnt like a phrase, she would just cross it out. I do think she cares about her students, but unfortunately I had a bad experience. I took ENGL. 111 this semester and got an A.
In her class, I experienced that as the papers and expectations ramped up, she became more nit-picky in the essays (and didn't always explain what she wanted out of us). Usually when I had something highlighted that it was wrong, I would ask her about it, and she would give a brief explanation, then tell me to go see a tutor. Not easy to get an A.
Very unempathetic, strict outlook. She wrote an article titled The Dreaded Grade Appeal, look it up before taking this course. Cold. Especially how she handles student emails requesting extensions due to deaths in the family, etc.(The answer is always NO).
Tried to improve all semester but received little assistance from Prof Dinkins. Everyone needs this class and supportive encouragement. I didn't gain any from this instructor. I missed class for therapy and lost even more points. Now I attend therapy more frequently to help with increased rejection. Please do not ask for help from this Professor!
As long as you put in the effort you will get an A. She expects you to work hard but do what you love by writing about essays that interest you.
Shari is a wonderful professor. In the begining I was nervous due to not doing online classes and she showed me that as long as I put in the effort I can achieve anything. I want everyone to know that she is willing to help anyone who is willing to try there very best to achieve there very best. I can not say enough about her. She is beyond awesome
Prof Dinkins - What can I say? I'm glad the semester is over. Emotionally you have drained me, I have no desire to continue with my education. I will look to transfer to a school where instructors are held to higher standards and background checks. Please resign.

Professor Dinkins' ENG110 class can be quite challenging, but with effort and the help of resources like unstuck study, it's manageable. She has high standards, but engaged students willing to put in the work can succeed.
She can be quite strict about attendance and things like deadlines and extensions. However if you get to know her and use your resources she is very nice. You definitely need to put in the extra effort for this class but I think it makes your writing skills better. She was also very understanding and empathetic when it came to personal struggles.
