She's new to teaching but really nice. Class was really easy! Just do the readings and be prepared to discuss because 98% of class will not. No midterms or finals!!!!
I took her history class last semester. She doesn't have midterm and finals BUT she gives you a lot of things to do, including quiz, which was very tricky and hard so it ain't easy. If you are looking for easy history class, she won't be the one for you.
If you are looking for easy history class, she wont be the one for you. No midterm and No final mean that she gives you a lot of things to do, which was true. And she grades very severe!!
She gives a ridiculous amount of work. Very closed-minded. Doesn't listen to feedback and forces her ideas on you. She taught a lot about Hawaiian culture but most of her stuff was incorrect and she guessed a lot of the time, looking for validation from the class.
Readings are required before every class followed by a group discussion during class time. The readings are about 7-15 pages long and you can skim. Most likely there will be a reflection on the reading at the start of class. Reading pretty much guaranties a good grade in the class.
This class is so boring. She forces her ideas and her opinions on you. She doesn't listen to what you have to say (she makes like she does, but not really.) She is all about my ideas, my theory, my thoughts and if you don't like it oh well, you need my class. If I could I would drop the class, BIG TIME!!!
She is very understanding but sometimes expects too much from her students.
Professor Sharleen is very organized. She has clear grading criteria, gives good feedback, and wants students to succeed.
She gives really easy to follow framework for writing all of the assignments she assigns. Breaks it up into sections so you don't have to write a huge paper all at once. Easy if you do your work, and it's only once a week. Show up and participate! That's the only way to pass because of reading checks. Readings aren't too long.
Mrs. Sharleen is very sweet. Always brings snacks to share with class. Her class is pretty interesting. Of course there are readings but it is not unmanageable. She also gives a lot of feedback on our assignments. Participation is your grade, I would suggest speaking during discussions and asking probing questions regarding the readings.
She gave a lot of chances to help us complete our work and ultimately help us learn. I had her for American studies, and I liked her, so that's why I took her this semester. She is calm and well forgiving. Expect to read a lot, however.
This class was really great. The course was broken down by week so you knew what to expect every time you came to class. The papers we were assigned to write was also broken down so as long as you come everyweek and work on it little by little you will get good feedback to pass the class.
Sharleen is a great teacher. Her lectures aren't even lectures. Their like group discussions, which are A LOT more interesting and fun. She plays a lot of different video clips during class time which is helpful because it connects with our readings and you can get a better understanding. Class is easy. All you have to do is do the work.
Nice Professor, lots of hard work.
I like that this was a very interactive class. I liked the dialogue between students and the teacher. I enjoyed learning about the different historical cultures and societies.
Not clear with assignments. Not clear with grading I would not take a class with her. Not recommended. Nice teacher though.
She sent out a schedule before the semester even started so we knew what was due. The textbook she picked was interesting. Only had 2 tests (midterm and final) which were easy as long as you kept up with the reading. You write reflections in class for points and if you don't do well on those, your participation in class counts. Loved this class!
She requires you to think.. I enjoyed her class!
The class is awesome and interesting. I learned a lot of things about our history that I didn't know before, or I knew about but not into depth. Theres lot of class discussions, which can be difficult to participate in if you don't do the readings, but it is also very helpful notes wise if you didn't read. Reasonable and gives good feedback.
I really enjoyed learning about the many different cultures that pave the way to how America is now. This class gave enlightenment on how America grew. I really enjoy the lectures as well as the different perspective of people that help create the New World.
Fair teacher, Show up to class and do your assigned readings, participate, do your fair share of the project, get a solid A. Miss a few classes, and you'll see your grade drop. Must show up to class to pass, if not, automatic fail. Would recommend, do what you're told and you'll enjoy the class. Group discussion everyday
Dr. Nakamoto gives you ample time to complete assignments.
The textbook is mandatory. Commonly a chapt/ class. Written reviews beg of class will be graded. Uses Laulima slides for lectures, so notes and attendance is critical. class mainly consists of attendance, written reviews every class meetings, midterm/ final, and group presentation. Overall, Professor is fair and great. She has sense of humor.
Awesome learning experience
Do not procrastinate and be punctual! Easy grade if you keep up with work.
Be prepared for class discussions and individual reflections by reading assigned readings.
When I first saw Dr. Nakamoto, I thought she was mean, but she's actually a really nice teacher. Just do what she assigns you to do and you'll pass. It's not that hard.
Dr. Nakamoto is a very nice professor.
She gives you a class schedule on the first day of class. Homeworks include reading the required textbook needed for class.
I think that she is a great teacher that let's us do group reading and very helpful
She is a great teacher but we cannot procrastinate or else we will have a hard time to catch up
Dr. Nakamoto is a really nice, caring professor. Really helpful. There are a lot of discussions about the textbook chapters but it should be easy.
she is very thorough with her teaching! class discussion is very important because she gives a clear understanding of the person that is being studied.
Professor Nakamoto is very conscience of her students and is willing to assist them however possible without being biased.
Great teacher who really worked with me
Dr. Nakamoto is a very inspiring teacher. She provides good feedback and helps us grow. I am happy and thankful that I end up in her class.
great teacher overall, i love the style of teaching she brought to the class. every morning she has a level of energy and humor which makes the class more enjoyable.
Dr. Nakamoto is very caring and kind to her students, she explains material and shares videos, stories and she also encourages group work!
The professor is nice, and cares about students, and the work is the usual, just do the work and you'll do fine, works not to overly difficult or hard.
the class was great, but the book chapter was something that was difficult for me to do and i couldnt understand it. the class participation/extra credit was worth the points. the lecture was something the professor couldve managed at the start of class. i probably wouldnt take the class again.
She made us the students to do more professional work. Get me ready when I must be professional with work must be done in college and afterwards!
She really tries hard to get indept about the issues and struggle of history!
Lots of reading
Shes a very nice teacher and really cares about her students! One time I had to miss class because of the rain and she came to me during my next class to give me papers for what was going to be on our midterm
She definitely cares about her students. One thing that I didn't like was the readings. You had to make sure that you read before you came to class, otherwise you'll get partial in-class credit deducted. Lots of extra credit opportunities, not much tests, only a project, midterm and final.
Great teacher. Started off really slow but picked up at the end.
Take her if you need this class
Fun teacher. Laid back class.
Dr. Nakamoto is a great professor. She really cares about her students and wants her students to discover things on their own with her guidance. Learned a lot from her class. She doesn't give too much assignments and the only tests you will take are the midterm/final, which she gives you the questions on the study guide.
Easy class if you actually go to class. Not much assignments and only gives midterm and final tests. Great teacher
Very nice and caring professor
This was a great class! Try not to miss class because you'll miss out on points and information. The professor is very understanding, helpful and easy to work with. Even if you think you would struggle in this class, take it! The professor is there to help you every step of the way.
She give good feedback on work given back. There are lectures and students are expected to participate in discussions. Overall good.
Forum blogs are used
Shes pretty chill and very understanding. shes very open if u ask questions.
Very kind and caring teacher, you are required to read a hell of a lot, but it will affect your score a lot, especially when it comes to tests. Miss a single thing and you could be screwed.
This professor is a bit akward however class goals are clearly outlined, and her criteria for grading is relaxed with opportunities for extra credit. Good professor in general however your grade depends more on participation and attendance in class.
Presentations every week. Read a chapter/week. Book is available online for free (The American Yawp). MUST show up to class to pass. Must follow assignment instructions 100%.
I take four classes as a single mom with a full time job. I thought this was going to be fun since I love history but it was a nightmare. Instead of making assignments due on a specific day of the week she made them due Mon, Wed, Fri. She opens assignments the night before so you cant finish ahead. Its history..... shouldnt be complicated..
I took AMST 150 in the spring and really enjoyed it, both in class and online due to covid. She's a great professor and by the way she teaches it shows how much she enjoys her job. You will be reading and writing a lot. Projects and presenting in front of class every week If you also enjoy history, you will love her class.
if you don't pay attention it will be difficult.
Shes a typical teacher but doesnt know when to shut up and when to excuse the class. Im not paying her to teach me overtime and shes clearly not paying me to waste my time. Shes rude she interrupts people a lot not very good at explaining things its her way or the highway. Shes just a tiger mom teacher, if you into that sort of thing.
Professor is very professional and show concern for student academically.
She's a great professor. She tells you the basics and you do the rest. Just read and do your research, take your time and everything will be fine.
Great Professor, super passionate about what she teaches. Lots of work every week, blog, assignment, reading and quiz. If you show up to class and participate in discussions the work should be relatively easy, and not hard to get a good grade.
The professor is very understanding and gives students many opportunities to get points back. I'm a full-time student and full-time worker and I've missed some assignments because of difficulty balancing, but she understood and gave us extensions in the beginning and aided when things don't work like videos to watch.
My professor gives helpful and clear feedback. She is always trying to improve her class.
I love this class! Although online, she still allowed us to interact with our peers and this gives us a chance to get to know her and others despite the barrier of doing meetings online
Such a fun teacher and im glad to have her throughout the semester
This professor works well with each of her students. She does this by giving extra credit for those who needs it and gives great feedback for those who wants to know what they did wrong and how to improve.
Enjoyed the class especially the zoom breakout rooms where we are able to interact with other students.
Professor Nakamoto-Levine is an amazing teacher. As distance learning goes, she gave us the opportunity to do our homework with the class zoom. If you miss a class, and you're an active participant, she won't hesitate to ask if you've been okay. Therefore, she is also supportive and understanding.
Very driven teacher and very helpful when you ask questions
She can give me good advice on my study and life.
Emailing was the only thing I think.
Theres a quiz every week, an assignment and a blog almost every week as well. open book quiz so its not hard.
There is a quiz every week, an assignment, and a blog almost every week as well.
Professor sticks to weekly schedule and doesn't deviate weekly due dates. I like that she encourages student to student talk and big discussions and opportunities to do homework during class while helping us learn what we need to learn.
Professor Sharleen's class was a class that you needed to do your reading and research to actually get a good grade. Attending class on Mondays, made it easier because she would have assignments, and if we finished them during the class time we would get full credit. But on Wednesdays you would need to attend class in order to get full ponts.
Very understanding and helpful with any questions.
Great teacher, provides lots of help and it is obvious that she loves talking to students. Has a good heart and mindset towards class times.
nothing else
She is an excellent professor and very easy to work with. She gives you a lot of chances to catch up or do extra credit to help you boost your grades.
It was very apparent that this teacher cares about the students and really enjoys having thoughtful conversations. This class really opened my eyes to realize other people's points of view.
In the beginning of the semester, I started off on the wrong foot because I got sick. This prof was so understanding and gave numerous chances for extra credit. As long as you stay on track, get the work done and on time, this class should be a breeze. A good amount of HW but the content isn't too difficult to understand. Overall a really nice prof
Although I don't enjoy doing school work, but the assignments were very interesting and are easy to understand and complete.
Professor Sharleen is a really cool and caring professor. She understands life happens and helps you work things out. You do learn a lot from her and the other students present. I enjoy this class a lot and I think she does an amazing job, especially online. Thank you, professor!
teacher is pretty good.
Homework, blog post and responses, and quiz are due weekly. There are no exams just to slide show projects.
Very accommodating professor; quite a bit of material to digest per week. Fair amounts of time should be dedicated solely to getting to read the material. Otherwise, transparency in the schedule makes it a very good class for the good planner to take.
She is an awesome teacher and is very involved. She takes teaching seriously and she makes it enjoyable to attend college. I was scared of not doing well, but she showed me that it's not as bad as it seems. I would definitely take her class again.
Prof. Nakamoto offers a comprehensive outlook on American history.
Great instructor very good professor
always pushed for class engagement, and explains lectures well
The professor is easy to follow, and follows the syllabus to the letter which makes planning easy. While the course is lecture heavy, she creates good and interesting topics and conversation.
Every week always a quiz ,assignment and blog that need to be done
Professor Nakamoto's AMST150 course was very easy to understand because the way she teaches. Students looking to take this class should know that you have to listen and do good work consistently to pass.
it's an easy A to pass this course if you do all the work. Participation matters in her class; she volunteers us to answer questions, read the readings in the class and present our blogs we do weekly! She gives extra credit that you can do to boost up your grade which is so helpful. She truly cares about you and interacts with you individually.
This class is very easy, just make sure you submit your assignments and take your quizzes on time and complete them with effort.
no comment
Great Professor!!
Gave great feedback and she could relate to me. Also, very understanding of my disabilities. I rate her at a solid 100% and wish I could have her again.
Very helpful with great feed back. Very understanding with my disabilities and I would defiantly want another class with her. I rate her at 100% Thanks for all your feed back and being helpful and understanding with all my work.
Professor Nakamoto-Levine was a great teacher. Cares a lot about her students. If you had any questions and it was out of officer hours you could simply just email her. There was quite a bit of reading but it was not heavy. Come to class and do the work and you'll pass!!!
Professor Sharleen cares about her students and gives us the chance to be better especially on our presentations.
Great class. Read the textbook, you'll be fine. Remember the due dates and be specific in your forums.
The amount of work is manageable, assignments are easy to follow, and stay on top of due dates.
Great professor overall, she assigns straight forward and easy to follow work and she offers assistance to students.
This professor likes you to be in class and participate. If you are not in class, she might give you another day to do the assignment. This class is very easy but you have to be consistent.
Professor is genuine about things for instance if she feels class needs improvements. Respectful towards students, cares about students welfare (laptop, etc.), generous (Bunch of extra credit given to help boost students grades), other than that teacher creates awesome and interesting topics. I'd pick her again, highly recommend class.
Amazing teacher and very understanding when you have to miss class (with a proper excuse). Lots of flexibility
Amazing and caring about how you succeed in her class. Professor Nakamoto will let you ask any question on your mind and give you a thoughtful answer that sticks with you forever. She has a great way to help you understand American History.
Extra credit opportunities. Fair grading. Caring and will message you if you miss assignments which is helpful.
Great teacher and made material easier to understand
Amazing teacher, who opens the door for discussion and conversation
She wants class participation which is good as you learn from different perspectives
Overall, Mrs. Nakamoto was a great professor. She was able to spark conversation over zoom and had an outstanding knowledge of the topics we were covering.
She is a very good professor who cares about her students.
Mrs. Nakamoto-Levine is very descriptive with her work. If you are in her online classes be prepared to read a lot. The best thing to do is to just do the work and you'll be able to pass the class. What's even better is that the schedule for getting things done is super flexible so you can space out what you need to get done easily.
Great teacher!
Professor Sharleen Nakamoto-Levine has a well-structured course that is easy to follow. Assignments are due on set days every week, so it gives students a heads up.
She is kindhearted and always trying to help people
She is very nice and willing to help you. She gives us exact dates on when things are due.
The professor is very friendly. I sent an email to ask her questions, respond quickly, and was very helpful. The assignments had been easy and difficult.
She isn't a hard grader which is nice but her class felt biased/ one-sided.
our professor is responsible and considerate.
She's a great teacher. Work is easy to understand and Do.
Great professor. The class is pretty easy if you do the readings and the assignments. Professor Nakamoto-Levine is always willing to help and she truly wants the best for her students.
I took this class async and every week has the same type of assignment, but different topics each week. She always has the deadline clear and always reminds us in the announcements. The textbook she uses is an online textbook so you don't have to go out of your way to buy one. She is also very understanding and replies back within an hour or so.
easy class to manage as due dates are the same every week, you are able to turn in assignments before the due date, clear expectations, minimum studying
The course shows you how you can inspire, and you will be inspired by the professor, course.
She was very fair and understanding when I had technical difficulties.
A very kind professor that focuses on class participation and discussion to expand on topics learned. Not too difficult in terms of workload.
Professor Nakamoto does an excellent job making the course material fun without boring you. As long as you participate and do all the readings you'll have no problem passing with an A.
Prof.Sharleen's AMST150 is a well paced class that is very informative with assignments/forums that students can discuss experiences related to the lesson we've learned for the week. Being able to discuss important experiences with other students made for a very involved and immersive curriculum I don't often find. I recommend taking her course!
Professor Sharleen Nakamoto does care for students and wants everyone to succeed in her class. The assignments she gives the class is well organize and informative.
This is one of the best classes I have taken at HCC. Professor Nakamoto is very helpful.
I enjoyed Professor Nakamoto's class and teaching because she used styles of reading, writing, watching and participation-based word. Professor Nakamoto is very critical when it comes to grading and always gives good feedback reassuring that you are understanding the material.
Made me go outside for a mid term assignment
This is a great class, weekly readings, assignments, and blogs but in no means difficult, as long as you turn in work Mrs. Sharleen is more than willing to help accommodate any late work or mishaps.
A simple class! Just do the work.
This professor will not disappoint and keeps everyone on top with weekly blogs to make sure your attending class and doing the assignments along with weekly test
Sharleen is super nice and gives out clear instructions for all homework assignments. Her assignments aren't too hard but I recommend trying to knock everything out the day it is assigned, it'll make your life a lot easier. Make sure to read!
The professor is really nice. The classwork is reasonable and there's no busy work.
Half of the courses revolve around history and humanities, mainly requiring students to explore on their own, unlike traditional history courses that correspond to textbooks. There is also interaction between students, and the exam content is mainly based on PPTs, which I find very interesting and low-pressure.
Professor Nakamoto-Levine way of teaching got me to view current event as the progression rather than in a vacuum. I enjoy how Professor Nakamoto-Levine challenged us to make past history relevant to our daily lives and current environment.
When assignments are graded, thoughtful comments are written and also provides examples on how other students answered the questions.
very lenient and quick class. everything is very accessible including the textbook which she provides a free pdf for. midterm was a presentation on a museum of your choice and was pretty fun overall. good class.
Grading criteria is simple and lots of student feedback. Schedule is kinda packed though (Tuesday: learning activity due, Wednesday: blog post due, Thursday: 3+ replies to blog post due, and Friday: open notes quiz on weekly readings). Learning is through PPTs and readings. Though there are lots of assignments due, it is a very rewarding class.
The coursework for the most part is fairly easy to do, however it is rather tedious. She ties the course material to modern day issues which is a nice touch to keep you interested and engaged. On forum based responses, she is also very active and gives feedback of her own so she is very much engaged with her students.
Professor Nakamoto-Levine was a very knowledgeable professor. Give s great feedback on work and gives examples of how other students viewed the assignment to give a deeper and more in-depth view of what is being taught. She is accessible outside of class and responds very quickly. Would recommend taking this course!
Professor Nakamoto-Levine is one of my favorite professors! Her course is very organized and she provides everything you need for the course. She's also a very caring professor. She cares about the well-being of her students and wants everyone to succeed. 10/10 would recommend her!
The layout of the class made it very easy for me to keep up with assignments and plan for when they needed to be completed. The professor was also very knowledgeable of the course itself and created various slides each week for a background of each topic.
Very good professor, would take again due to how easy and clear the grading is.
Her classes are full of discussion, it is important to share your ideas with the class.
Sharleen is an amazing professor! She is very understanding with her students. She is also very easy to reach outside of the class hours or whichever hours she has posted on the class site. The work in her class is not hard at all, just remember to get into a pattern as for most of the work is in the same format.
Mrs. Nakamoto is an open-minded professor. Her utilization of blogs helps students interact with each other and learn that relate to issues in this world as a history class. This class has bit of an outgoing sense too since it pushes students to explore their community and see how names, murals, and artifacts tie into the history and significance.
Professor Nakamoto is one of the best history teachers that you can have and I highly recommend her.
Shes a great professor and I injoyed her class. I learned so much. Shes caring and makes everything. understandable. She knows her stuff and she cares.
Amazing professor! Her class is very organized and easy to follow.
She demands respect and won't accept work if she feels that it was not done with full effort.
We usually get feedback 0n assignments and that all0ws us t0 further increase 0ur grades thr0ugh resubmitting.
I would say that they should be ready to participate more on the class since she grades participation.
Professor Nakamoto always provides clear criticisms of your work. The assignments are not overwhelmingly plentiful and it is very easy to build AMST150 into your weekly schedule. She always urges discussion. If you enjoy engaging in discussing both modern and past perspectives of American history, I highly recommend this class!
I can not give a detailed explanation on Sharleen's teaching style as I've never seen her in person, but all of the materials she creates or uses for assignments are very well made. Sharleen also gives plenty of opportunities for students to do extra work to help expand their horizon while providing extra credit as an incentive.
I learned so much in this class. I would encourage everyone to take it Sharleen Nakamoto-Levine is so understanding and teaches this subject well.
This professor not only facilitated some of the most thought provoking discussions I've ever had in a class but also gave me some of the best and actually applicable academic advising. She's a great teacher and a very sweet person. Just participate actively and do your best, that's what counts.
She's nice!
She is a very good professor overall and teaches the course very well. The course itself was not hard to learn because her lessons are well planned out. I would retake her class again because of how much I enjoyed her class.
The professor was fair and friendly. She helped me out with any questions that I had.
She's a great professor, who wants to see her students succeed. She provides feedback on assignments, caring, and allows extensions (when needed). There are three main weekly assignments plus two projects (midterm and final).
This professor provides work that is balanced reasonably throughout the week. Also, this professor is very understanding for students who may have trouble with deadlines.
She overall is a great teacher, she also cares about her students and always helps whenever someone needs it. During our presentation she also gave out very good advice and pointed out helpful ways to improve on said things if needed to. Participation is graded on as to why you should try and attend every class.
Take her class! Her syllabus is well structured and easy to follow.
Very good pacing. Every week I had to do a learning assignment due on Tuesdays, a blog post due on Wednesdays, and 3 blog replies + a short quiz on Fridays.
Dr. Nakamoto-Levine was truly exceptional, exhibiting a profound depth of knowledge in her field. Her expertise was evident in her ability to impart complex concepts with clarity and precision, making even the most challenging topics accessible to her students.
This is a great course and she is a great instructor. Would highly recommend this class.
This class is a good balance between being informative and not overwhelming. The way the course is set up, with assignments, blogs, and quizzes spaced out on different days, really helps students stay on track and avoid procrastination. The professor is very accommodating and give feedback on the assignments.
Very good teacher
Sharleen is a phenomenal professor who makes the course engaging and manageable. The assignments are well-spaced, and she provides great feedback. For study prep, I found unstuck ai and the textbook really helpful alongside the lectures.
Dr. Nakamoto is the type of professor that wants to see you succeed. Her course contains a lot of information, however it's all easy to understand. Despite there being weekly assignments given to you, if you manage your time correctly you'll find that the material you go over in this class is actually pretty interesting.
Incredibly good feedback on assignments!
HIGHLY recommended
Dr. Nakamoto-Levine was a good professor, but there is LOTS of work due throughout the week. They aren't too difficult but can be slightly time consuming. She will let you know if you miss assignments that you need to step up your game.
very responsive and will make sure to reach out if you miss an assignment.
Overall the professor was clear about the course and made the course easy.
The professor gives you chances and a lot of help when you don't complete your assignments. She cares about you and wants you to succeed. he does give a lot of homework but those homework help you to understand everything you need and she explains it the most understandable way for you too.
