teaches out of memory, not too easy, not too bad.
You call that teaching?! It's more like self-learning.
He expects students to read the textbook as well as pay attention in class. He gives extra credits in many ways. Attendance is important in this class. A way to get his attention is to join his Linux presentation ;)
He expects you to learn the material; however, he gives extra credit.
learn on your own but not that hard on exams. expect to spend certain days where at least 30 min is wasted on reading an article. gives extra credit if the whole class does bad.
Very unorganized and unclear. Cannot understand what he says. Worst professor I've had!
NO HOMEWORK OR PAPERS. Just 4 tests. Basically pay attention in class and learn it yourself by reading the book. Pretty easy tests.

hate this teacher, who never teaches in class , always waste time in class, dunno why PCC hired him??
Sit up front, pay attention, read the book, do extra credit... you should be okay!
I've never had an instructor so unaccomodating. When class averaged a B on one a test, he proclaimed it "too easy", & warned for next test that finishing early would indicate the need for a harder final. Has inexplicable paranoia about students
This guy is terrible.Very hard to understand what he says. Terrible teacher. Don't take his class.

he is the worst teacher i had in pcc. he is always unprepared, lazy, and talks about linux frequently. he plays favorites & often calls on them 2 answer questions. to do well, study the book & studyguide throughly.must attend all mtgs to gain 3% credit.
I agree with everyone's comments..he's unorganized, unprepared, spends too much time talking about Linux. Based difficulty of test on the length of time students completes it. Impatient explaining questions. Not helpful. Don't take this teacher.
Won't answer your legitimate questions. Thinks you're trying to disrupt the class. Antsy. But otherwise, good class. Talks about Linux a lot though.
very bad teacher, tests very hard i bet someone else made them because he can't possibly answer those questions. he knows nothing about econ. grades on the curve...horrible
Easy MC tests, sometimes w/essay. Gives 1 pg writeups to boost grade but only a little. Don't even need to read the book, just know how to do the chapter problems he does and reviews in class. Easy A. Teaches very slowly and is boring, study yourself.
doesn't expect a lot from his students. think we are all dumbasses.

Laziest teacher I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!
If you want to pass this class, my suggestion is "keep looking" don't stop here. I recommand you go to other college.
his tests are kinda easy, but i dun think he knows how to teach......he likes to talk about stuff that's not related to econ in class.....sometimes he just sits there and daydreams
Don't waste a single moment in this class, find another. He is by far a waste of the college's money and your college experience. A Worthless teacher, and I don't say that about any.
all he knows how to do is to catch students cheat. he assumes his students are all potential cheaters. that is very insulting although one the nicknames of this college is pasadena cheating college.
Tries to make weird jokes that are often not funny, has a heavy accent sometimes hard to understand. Doesn't do a good job of explaining, but if you are good at reading on your own, the tests are straight forward.
very lazy...no hw but dsnt know how to teach AT ALL...you must read by yourself or else u'll definitely flunk the tests...i dont recommend him for econ1b...i recommend Kim instead(though he has lots of assignments)
Took both with Bastani, reading book is not the important part, his lectures are. Easy cheezy for me. Should be for you too. Just understand the material.
He is polite and knows his stuff. Take the notes and do the reading also, do the assignment. Not hard at all to get A.
He was an "ok" teacher I guess. His tests were really easy. I didn't really get much out of the class. He called in sick a lot. It was an easy A for me though.
he's just too easy to get through, gives easy tests + bunch of extra credits (at least 7 percent)
if you want to understand the material rather than just pass the class, then this is not for you. lazy instructor is good for lazy students :)
Really surprised by all the negativity -- one of the best econ profs.
Not helpful, lecture sucks, and frankly, not a very nice person!
This guy has bad attitude and definitely knows what PCC stands for.
Teaching skills - F People Skills - F Should retire from teaching!
WEll.he is really "LAZY" he did not teach and you have to read and take notes from book on your own, lik me...study hard to get through! the exam is NOT easy...really not! very heavily on calculation problems. HOWEVER, he curve the test A LOT
He does not know how to teacher. He gives extra points. He is really boring. He play favorites. He likes help smarter students get more point. don't take him. And if you do than read the book cause it is not as boring as him.
He doesn't look like a teacher and he is very lazy to teach. you should study by yourself. he could coming for retirement.
Folks be way too hard on Bastani -- and he is way too young to retire. Sit up front, and get a work ethic!
Has an accent, very strict. Lectures are not clear tends to keep you in class until the last 5 minutes or so. Don't take this class unless you can read and understand the book and pretty much teacher yourself.
DONT THIS THIS ****ER!THE CLASS IS ****ING HARD. HE DONT EVEN REVIEW FOR THE TEST AND HIS TESTS ARE HARD.

he's not that bad as some dude says here. for me, i never listen to his lecture and took notes. but i did spend some time going thru the book before taking the tests. he will curve some points and give your some extra credits. JUST LEARN BY YOURSELF in th
He's lazy, always focuses on the calculation part in teaching so u'll always have to read the book on your own for definitions. His tests are mainly MC, and there will be one essay question. The essay question is easy as long as u take notes in class.
He is indeed very lazy, but he is a pretty good teacher. He only teaches the most important things in each chapter; therefore, he is really good for those students who are good at learn from lectures. He does not alwasy follow the book.
I have to admit he is a very lazy teacher.Even though he's lazy it's really easy to get a good grade in class. In his class you have to read the book,or atleast read the summaries. In his class he has 5 tests and drops one, and he gives lots of points. If you can read the book on i suggest taking it.
gives a lot of extra credit
No Comments
This professor is very easy. he gives 4 tests (drop the lowest score out of the four , every tests counts 25%)and gives a final tests(final counts 25%)"Mr. Bastani gives a lot of extra credit to help you achieve a good grade. You must read from the book. Mr. bastani focuses on main points of chapters
This guy is infact lazy and wastes sh** loads of time, but gotta admit i had the most fun in his class. if your the kinda person who can study on his/her own and understand the material, then take him cause hes really kick back. will teach whts needed and skip the crap. encouraging too.
He is a lazy and unhelpful teacher. His lecture is boring and nothing, but he will ask you everything in his tests. He will be angry with your asking if you are not paying attention on his lecture. Almost half of my classmates got a "F" in the final. Don't take him! He is a "GPA Killer".
my GPA drop when i took his class.take him only if u can pretty much teach yourself or he is a waste of time for u. he only curve grade if the whole class didn't do well. unless if you're with a bunch of smart people then you're screw.
Don listern to what the other guy said. His lecture is so interesting and clear to understand. His test is easy!He is nice, fair and passionate.Lot of extra credit!Take his class if you want an easy A!!
well well well... i had him doing fall, and i have to say he is pretty lazy. but i think he's cool! and although half of the class failed most of the tests, still if u listen to his lecture and study the important parts like i did ur'll get an A as well!
I got a A. just remember the notes and do the homework and read the book twice.
this guy's accent is horrible. He can be a jerk sometimes, but when it comes to the tests, he might just for the heck of it give u extra points. LOL. I got D's on all the tests, but with the points he gave us I managed B's on them all. He tries, but he's strict and comes across rude.
Great teacher. Yes, he does have an accent, but GET OVER IT!! He's very knowledgeable. The best way to handle this class (or any ECON class) is to buy a set of colored markers to keep track of the different curves and the direction of their movement.A tough class, but it gets worse later in college
Apparenrly the easiest Econ teacher in PCC, no work load at all, easy multiple choices. He is nice and delivers ideas clearly. Take him and enjoy
don't teach in the class....but test is easy. easy muti-choice. want to learn, don't take him
if you do not get econ from the start, he'll leave you in the dust. More than 1/2 of his class dropped out. His lectures do not reflect his tests at all. I would not recommend him to anyone.
Is anyone know which econ textbook i need buy for econ 1A&B with this professor. please including the edition # 2. Thank You
He is a great teacher. You will learn a lot from him.PCC iS a college, but some students still expect the teaching way same like in the high school. I guess this is the only reason why they felt his class is hard.
He has an accent probably middle eastern or something. Very strict teacher won't let you leave early even if its 5 minutes. I swear this guy never calls in sick, even if he has no voice he'd write stuff on the board all day and flip through the material quick 2-3 chapters in a day. Boring teacher if your the nerdy type then this is the class 4 u!
he tried to teach but i didnt get it
ummm....this guy is soo funny, but his tests are hard....he covers the material in class, but you really must study hard to get an A on the tests
Bastani seems very interested in the material, but he doesn't know how to get it through to the students. Near the end of the semester more than 1/2 of the class dropped. If you don't already understand the material, he isn't going to help you. The tests seem easy but they're actually really tricky, if you take him read on ur own and you'll be ok.
Hes fantastic!
He is a great teacher. You just need to pay attention and you will do fine if you're dedicated to learning. I am a foreign student, but I’ve managed to get A’s in both Econ 1A and 1B. What you have to do is follow his directions.
the tests are hard.
His teaching was horrible, very unclear and annoying. His test and class would be easy if you were to read out of the book instead of listening to him.
He's hard end of dicussion. No homework but you HAVE TO read the huge book and teach a lot of it to yourself because he is unclear and doesn't provide the world's amount of notes for you to study from
Complete dumbass. Half the time he'll talk then forget what the hell he's talking about. Can't understand what the heck he's saying since he's so quite and he's accent is so damn strong. He's extremely unhelpful
HE CURVES A LOT ON YOUR TEST AND GIVES A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT. GREAT!!!
He is a horrible professor, he isn't clear at all when he teaches. I got an F for his class, and a B for Keeps class, with the same exact material. Keep explains the material a lot better. Don't waste your time with bastani, take Keep or Kim S H, they're both really good professors.
His accent is so bad that you cannot understand a word he says. He talks for a little while, and then lets the students work out problems on the board. His test are multiple choice but still kind of hard. You'll do better by just reading and learning from your book.
Has an accent, a bit hard to understand what he says. He talks alot(things not on exams). Let you do problems on the board(study these problems). Give extra credits quite often. Might give extra credit for writting a report when the whole class's grades is not that well on a particular exam. Over all not a hard teacher. An Ok professor.
Great teacher! highly recommend for students who read the text books and do the work. He gives extra points for tests, which helps a lot to get a A. It is easy to get an A in this class as long as you read the book and do the study guide accompanied with it. Do your GPA a favor! (P.S: those who got a F, I am sure they do not read the book)
accent is bad. speaks like the students are retarded and dont know english. he has this strict cheating policy. its retarded. if u dont cover ur whole paper even when there is no answers, he sits next to u and watches u.. basically discrimination there. he thinks he is right about everything. but if u read the book, u will be able to pass.
ALL THE PEOPLE THAT SAY HES A BAD TEACHER BECAUSE THEY GOT F'S ARE DIPSHITS. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS READ THE BOOK AND LISTEN IN CLASS. I SLEPT THROUGH MOST OF THE CLASS AND WAS **** A FEW TIMES AND STILL GOT AN A. HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING AND GIVES EXTRA POINTS ON TESTS AND GIVES NO HW. IN UR FACE DUMB ASSES!!!
No homework! Explains stuff in class so take notes. If you can study on your own, you can get an easy A. Buy the studyguide! Questions are almost the same!
This guy is cool. He loves teaching and knows his stuff. Study up for the final!! Here is a tip: if you can't come to class on time every day- don't take this fellow. He takes it REALLY personally when you show up late. I missed only one day of class (never late) participated a few times and got and extra 5% on my total grade. Respect. Booyakasha.
very bad
He makes the class interesting & easy to understand. Best way to get an A is his class is pay attention mostly, I barely read to textbook and I skimmed through the study guide. For the most part, if he does tell you to read specific pages then do so. Remainder mostly just pay attention, whatever he covers in class is what's on the test.
Excellent professor! He knows a lot more than just what's on the textbook. And just make sure you pay attention in class, you will most likely have an A. He doesn't really use the textbook a lot. So instead of spending hours the night before the test to read your book, just pay attention in class. That's enough to get you a good grade.
bad accent and boring, first day of class there were more people trying to add then people actually in the class and the people trying to add were taking all he seats, by the last month of the semester there was only 5 people
Pretty good. Grades fairly. Knowledgeable.
nice~
Very easy class...especially compared to McKleans econ class. HE has a short temper and you dont learn much. 3 tests, 1 final, 1 essay..all are easy and come from his lectures. If u take notes and pay attention you hardly need to study to get an A. Gives alot of extra credit. Plays favorites with students which kinda sucks.
Super nice! Great Teacher!
He is an easy teacher as long as you can learn a lot..
He is an easy teacher as long as you pay attention in class, that's the key to success in his class. The bad things about him is that he is impatient and he's incapable of explaining what he wants you to write on the term paper, and he just expects you to know exactly what to do.
dumb class guy has a stupid accent and sucks at teaching no help and he favors the neards
His lectures frequently deviate from the actual lecture, on the other hand listening to his lectures are useless. His tests are 100% from the book, if you do the study guide you can get an A easily on his tests. Prompt attendance is still expected because he gives you 5% extra credit for attendence and participation and those help a lot.
He always says "If you come to class and understand today's lectures, there will be no problem in the exams, the graph is exactly like this(on the board), which is going to be appeared on your next exams" Yet, the exams have nothing to do with it AT ALL! He always talks something that is not related to the lecture. He is too old to remember things!
This guy is great! He gives some much extra credit. Everything he lectures is on the test. The study guide is VERY helpful. Use the study guide as reference and you'll have a solid A. I had to have a 66% on the final to get an A in the class. Lovin' the extra credit.
lots of Extra credits! most of the things on his tests is in his lecture. you need to listen to him carefully though, reading is not necessary. test is really really easy, but some of the qustions are trick though. he is a really nice guy. i do not know why his grade is so low. that really scared me at the beginning. take him!!
I took 1A with him so I thought I could survive for 1B but I had to drop. You dont learn anything with him. He is one of the worst professors. Tests are extremely hard and he is not helpful. Dont take him!
Very easy teacher to understand, and genuinly funny. I loved his accent, great prof!
The material was hard to grasp and requires much attention. Bastani assigned way too much reading for this course. He tried to make the material fun but it wasn't. He lectured the whole time. Most of the time, the students are silent perhaps b/c of boredom or confusion. He was funny and willing to help though.
This teacher is great! he gives a whole bunch of extra points, that increases ur grade for one above! he allows using a cheat sheet, that saves evryone! good teacher!
bad. and his accent. can't really stand him. please if you wanna learn and get a good grade. DON'T TAKE HIM. will kill your gpa!
a super boring professor. u will sleep in the class cox his lecture is boring and he speak in the same voice. but it's a easy class though, just appear in class, study the notes and read yr book once then u can get a good grade. he also give our extra credit that was so easy to get full mark.
if u r econ major, dont take him. if u just want to take an A, take him. very easy, many extra credit. i almost did all of my test B, but after extra point, all of them became A. read the book, easy A.
He is the best professor i've ever had, he's funny and nice. Be sure to take good notes, and read the book, the tests are based on what he teaches in class, so GO TO CLASS.
he may be nice. however i found him to be very disorganized, and i disagree with the easy A, because his extra credits are only 1-2 pts each
what can i say?...really easy to get an A in his class...exams will become easy for you if you listen to his lecture and READ the book!..lots of extra credit opportunity..
You do not learn anything and class is as boring as ever
ok,looks like there's a lot controversy over whether this teacher.yes, his lecture is pretty boring, but nonetheless it's EXACTLY what will be on the test.As a grown up college student, everyone should have the ability to concentrate. You are not a baby who needs pop pictures and colorful presentations to keep you interested. It's college! He's easy.
he is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His lectures have nothing to do with the class. The tests are extremely hard and only a few questions are from the lectures. The tests are very long and doesn't give enough time to take them. Do not take him for Economics.
His exams are long and he doesnt give enough time for them. Before he collects them, students rush to fill in answers and he says there are several mins left before his next class starts yet students taking exams arent allowed to get a few more mins but forced to leave. So unfair. All the "easy" comments about them are bogus. I regret taking him.
i took his class, and i learned nothing. he doesn't know anything about the econ.
i took this class n i have to drop it because it tests are hard and all of the grade depend on this and the final term paper. Also he told us to study the study guide but instead i found nothing help even study them. This class to me is hard. If you really understand economic then fine unless you are not. and all the good comments are all wrong...
The test are unrelated to the study guide. He does not give enough time to take the tests. I had to drop because the test are super hard. If you don't want to ruin your GPA do not take him.
it's true .his class is hard..especially the test
bad bad bad teacher,learn nothing.
Very hard class. This guy swears hes Arnold Schwarzenegger.Linux This and Linux that!!
He used to be easy and fair...but this fall he change his teaching style and becomes harder...as always-->too much BS in his CLASS.. dont take him..
he uses almost half hour to take attendence, then uses half hour to sigh, then let his students to leave 20 mins earlier..do you think you still learn anything. But also hard to get a better grade unless you just only take his ECON in a long semester....
an professional professor. PCC should kick him out. the reason why california has the economic problems is because there exist some of these kinds of professors, they are highly paid but do nothing, waste money from tax payers..
has an accent which makes it hard to understand him at times. lectures are fast paced, he doesnt like to repeat himself, and they basically just reinforce what is in the textbook. test are long and difficult. if class as a whole is struggling he will give articles to read as extra credit. my class got this after EVERY test. wouldnt recommend.
don't take him. people told he gives a lot of extra credit but that's not true. it's just 2 points!!!!! and 3 points for attendes. don't take him. he is usless and his test are mostly multiply choise!!!
easy. study from study guide n listen to his lecture n you'll be fine. allow 1 pg cheat sheet on tests
Very nice guy but he can't teach. I hate how people say "you're in college...you need to study on your own". Listen..i don't pay for a course that requires attendance to only learn at home. I don't even care that he's boring. He doesn't prepare his students for his test. This is the only C i've ever received in college.
I already wrote a letter to Social Science Department to complain this Econ Professor..let us see what will happen....Bad for those students who want to learn...
difficult class, dont take unless you are smart and good at math, he always said tests are from the study guide but nothing at all...not recommended..all the time in the class is talking about newspaper , he luctured a little bit and then you go home and study on your own... tests are at least 5 chapters
the most stupid guy i met in college. he has very strong accent which will confuse you every instrument in class.
very hard! dont trust the people that says hes easy! his tests are hard half the class dropped out! he told us only 4 people were passing the class by the last week of class! doesnt know how to teach all we do is read articles and listen to lectures which is useless! like one question he taught in his lectures were on the test! DONT TAKE HIM!
i cant stand how many idiots say he is hard. that's bull. he is easy, very nice but effort on your part is essential. what else do you expect? he's funny, smart and tests are NOT tricky. i recommend him if you are a hard worker, if not, the grade you get is the grade you deserve.
If you don't want a W on your transcript I warn you not to take him. Plain and simple.
this professor is the worst i've ever known. he can't teach at all, he doesn't even bother to teach you. all of the material have to be learnt by yourself. NEVER TAKE HIM!!
He's the WORST professor in PCC. He can't teach at all, makes me wonder why he said teaching is his obsession. If you don't want to get a C or ruin your GPA, DON'T TAKE HIM!! Do yourself a favor! Save yourself before it's too late!!
Very nice guy but he can't teach. I hate how people say "you're in college...you need to study on your own". Listen..i don't pay for a course that requires attendance to only learn at home. I don't even care that he's boring. He doesn't prepare his students for his test.
If you interest major in econ or business major stay away from him. You can't learn anything for this classes. He is a lazy Prof. and the class is very boring all the time. He give you 5 pts extra credit. attendance, 4 test, no homework.
He goes off on tangents he cant remember what he taught before class and when someone in the front row gives an answer he doesnt explain how they got the answer or even resay it for the rest of the class to hear! HUGE on being on time!!! dont take if you dont need to
He expects students to understand many concepts from the book and explains only the crucial ones in class. What he aims to do is to connect what you learn in class to the real world economics, which means reading a lot of newspaper articles! If you like economics and want to understand what is going on today, you will like this class.
He teaches pretty okay. He talks about modern day issues for the first 10 minutes and you can listen if you're interested or not if you just want to be bored, he doesn't test on it. Sometimes we do problems in class and he has someone write it on the board which is helpful. Grade is based on 3 tests and attendance.
The material to start of is hard. He explains the difficult material. Test are very hard as well. You really need to do the problems in the book to understand the material. He gave us tons of extra credit to help the class pass. His accent is not bad. But u do have to be there everyday or you will be lost.
i hate he give lots of extra credits .This is a collget class not a high school one.He also allows students to bring notes to the test.He is very strict about the rules of test.I think he should go back to high school and teach the SI LI students.if i were you,i would not choose him.
i donot konw how he can get the license and teach at PCC.i think he should teach at high school. He covers the different things from the textbook.easy high school teacher
i canot understand how the other students gave him the happpy face.He deserves to have the very ungly face on rating him.He likes to pay attention to the Berkeley studnts.Hard to bargain with him on the test result.no recommeding to take him
a shamefuly thing is that he can teach at PCC
to get As in his class, students must work hard on his class including abosoring the classes lectures well and doing the study guide.i donot like him give out the extra credits and no explanations on the test questions. His lectures r not pretty organized. He has the konwledge but donot konw how to teach well.No recomonding to take him
Don't believe the string of same ratings posted below. He is a difficult professor who is a dismal at teaching. Gives a lot of extra credit which only makes up for his inability to address exam subject criteria. He is unable to deliver the right lectures for exams and is easily one of the worse professors at PCC. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!
this professor is really nice and plesant, but he often goes off topics and his tests are really tricky and most of the questions are related to the lecture materials. the essay was the only one that was related to the class materials. really strict about the rules of his class. sadly, he is disorganized too =/
Bastani is a good teacher. He speaks English well. you have to attend the class, pay attention, take good notes,READ THE BOOK and use THE STUDY GUIDE. His tests are difficult, but if you study you will do fine. The students that give him bad ratings can't speak English. It's their fault for taking a class beyond their English skill.
worst teacher ever, dont take him!! he never teaches.
I hated that class! In simple words he is just a terrible prof...its a true shameful thing he teaches at PCC. Some might say that does that don't like him are because they don't know english, well I speak and write perfectly good in english...I am trilingual... So from personal experience don't take him he is horrible...He likes only UC's students.!
Prof. Bastani was a typical college teacher. Yes, he did teach. But with the way the economy is, he loved to talk about real life situations, which I liked. Tests are hard. Duh. It's econ. I am really lazy though and I passed, so anyone can.
Horrible Teacher, 3 tests, each 30%, 10% project paper. He sets the seats nd has version 1 & 2 test papers.really hard. got B in 1A that was not his, but fail his 1B.
Try to find another professor, this one's HARD. Able to get a C. Bastani is buddies with McClean, another bad prof. They're grading is hard, his teaching isn't organized much, not clear. He let's you bring cheat sheets but make sure you staple and write your name. Good Luck if you have him. STUDY all the chapters he tells you to on your own
Took him during the winter, pretty chill class. If you're serious about the class and actually read the chapters, you'll do fine. Nice guy, gives a ton of extra credit, and digs iPhones. Had a 106% going into the final. The people that complain about him are prolly just lazy, inbred retards.
Bastini isn't the worst, but isn't the best. His lectures are dull and sometimes he has no idea what he's talking about. He tends to stray off topic and has an arsenal of lame jokes. When asked a question, he seemingly does not directly address the question, I don't if he doesn't know it or he doesn't understand what is being asked. Self-study reco
Took him during Winter. Nice and easy class, just read your textbook, study before test and there should be no problem of getting an A or at least a B
nice teacher, but test are hard! fun class! you mont fall asleep in the class:)you will learn a lot from prof.Bastani
He is one of the worst professors for Econ courses at pcc.Don't take him if u wanna learn sth from Econ.He wasted the class time by cleaning up the desk for half of class time at the beginning of the class. Then take the rest of the time to take row.But he gives out a lot of extra credits. At least you can get a B in his class but learned nothing.
2 Cheat Sheets on every test. Loves soccer. In my opinion, his class is harder suring short semester rather than long semester.
Took him for summer.Don't be lazy, you have to read to get a good grade.his tests are decently hard, the multiple choice are easy if you actually read and took notes, essays are unpredictable.he's hard, but gives extra credit for attendance and participation and lets you use 2 front and back pages of notes for test.boring class and NO CELL PHONES.
dont take him,I got an A with Kim, but I think I'll fail the 1B class with him,he has accent, and he knows nothin, if u wanna try, go ahead, dont choose him if other classes are closed, keep checkin on them.
He is so boring !!!!! He barely taught anything! i took it in summer and i dont think i learn anything besides the world cup!
This guy is funny. He talks really slow so it takes a little getting used to but he really knows his stuff and always adds some weird humor. He will NOT remember your name. I think he called me without looking at the attendance sheet once, on the day of the final. Only took four months for one name. And remember: NO CELL PHONES.
took him during fall semester. got an A. gave 2 pieces of cheat sheets for every quizzes. quiz 1 is easier. quiz 2 is easy. quiz 3 is hard. quiz 4 is impossible. whats best is that he gives 6 bonus points added to your tests. extra credit is easy. gives 2% grade for just erasing the board. really kind teacher. arranged seating on every tests.
Not very helpful. His lectures are slow and tend to stray off. Tests are not difficult. Book used more as reference. I wouldn't recommend this man. He shows no interest in the subject even though he teaches it.
Took him for the fall semester,he was so helpful. He explained when i didn't understand, he allowed us to use cheat sheets, and even curved our test. He goes over similar problems to those of the test. Use the study guide, really helpful!
Got a c in the class without ever opening the book. This class was terrible. If you want to actually learn something, go to another class.
Most will struggle in this class. Use the study guide and practice the m/c questions. A study group on this class will help. A lot of questions for each test. Entire grade is based on 4 tests and attendance. Test's are based on test bank. Test review will not give you any useful feedback. Class lecture can be painful at times, but should help out.
Takes half the class time to talk nonsense + take roll. Other half, he draws confusing graphs and expects everyone to understand it at the second. Unfair grading, plays favorites. The only good thing is that you get cheat sheets on your tests, so make sure you do them.
I took Prof. Bastani during Spring semester. He explained everything carefully and always answered questions the class had. Also, he allowed us to use cheat sheets to write down anything that didn't make sense to us. We also talked about Barcelona and other sports :)
nice professor, but far away from teaching. i took 1A with McLean and got an A with wings.Bastani draws graphs and that is about it. all his lectures are graphs. not easy to comprehend. get another professor. (x)
He is not really helpful. This class is only based on 3 tests (each worth 30%) and on a paper (10%). Have to read the book really well.
Funniest professor I've ever taken. Failed the first test and ended up getting a B. He's a fun professor.
One of the worst Economics professors at PCC. The reason he has such a low rating is because he cannot teach. He spends an hour of class just trying to figure out who is in class. His tests are difficult and his main goal is to find cheaters. His lectures are nothing more then confusing graphs. Save your GPA and money. Take someone else.
Hated being in his class at first because his lectures were very confusing and messy. But he did give us cheat sheets, which helped a lot. My advice is to copy all the graphs he goes over in class into ur cheat sheet, that helped me tons. Also go on the online learning center and review the worked problems section. That got me a B at least.
Prof. Bastani is not your regular cup of tea. I took his class in the winter. If you are a person who loves Economics and Math, then this class will be innately easy. However few of my peers were completely lost. There will be a lot graphs to study and tests are deliberately made to be confusing. Take him if you want a challenging economics course.
Got a C in Kim for ECON 1A, but an A in Bastani's class. Honestly all I did was cram 2-3 days before the test & made good use of my cheat sheets. He expects you to do a 50 Q test in 50 mins so you have to work quick. 50 Q's for the 1st two test then 70 Q's for the final. I advice you to read the book and understand his graphs really well!
I advise people to not take this professor for Econ 1A. I THOROUGHLY read the book, but it seems most of his test questions (which were very difficult) were from his lectures, which I never understood. If you are bad at math like I am, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! YOU WILL REGRET IT! The only C I ever received at PCC was from this professor.
Hate to say this but all the negative comments were from lazy students. I took both of his 1A1B and both got A. Yes he told you the most simple stuffs. But as a college student, you need to read the book yourself. He even allows pages of cheat sheets in the exams, so it was impossible to get anything less than a B if you have REALLY worked hard.
How to get an A: 1. Sit on the FRONT row! 2. Do the silly extra credit, ex: wipe the board, read an article, answer a question on the board 3. WHATEVER he puts on the board, PUT IT ON YOUR CHEAT SHEET! especially graphs 4. READ and UNDERSTAND the book (esp graphs) 5. DO THE WORD PROBLEMS IN THE BOOK! AND WORKBOOK! 5. Utilize the tutors!! TRUST ME!
If you like to learn something from books, it is okay to take class. If you want to learn something from the professor, you'd better look for other professors. If you smart, you can get A.
Do not take this professor! He spent 30 mins each class just taking attendance. He wastes time on that and yelling at people who are tardy so when it comes to lecture you might have 30 mins to learn. Not enough for a hard subject.
Wish I would've listened to the other reviews here. His lectures aren't clear, tests are hard despite being allowed 2 pages of notes, plays favorites. Take someone else.
i took both his eco1a and 1b. Honestly, he is the best professor I have ever had. He is really nice to his students. If you have good notes from his lectures, then the tests wont be hard for you. He even allows pages of cheat sheets for exams. A lot of EC for just going to the class and answer his questions in class.Take him!!!highly recommend!!
he allows pages of cheat sheets for his tests, and he gives EC for just coming to the class.
He is a best Economic professor at PCC. His lecture is clear and is not boring. He is extremely helpful and gives you many extra credit. I took his class in fall semester and I recommend. Just remember that economic is a hard topic and you have to study a lot by yourself. As long as you learn chapter 3, you will be fine for the entire semester.
He is an extremely nice guy, but he wastes so much time. Lectures are unclear at times and rushed because of the wasted time. Starts giving leeway towards the end since you cant drop the class. Expect to do a lot of self studying if you take him.
I tried to give Econ a chance.. but I picked the wrong professor. He is pretty cool but very hard to understand what he is actually asking of you. His tests are very hard! (notes are confusing) I am not going to tell you not to take the class but this is a warning that you will need to work VERY hard in his class to pass.
Terrible simply terrible he has an accent, he is unorganized, he wastes time. DO NOT TAKE!!
If you're bad at math, you'll be bad at economics. He is VERY clear. He does have an accent, but he is CLEAR with what he teaches. He draws EVERYTHING out on the board with clarity [mostly numbers and graphs] to reinforce what he is saying. People making fun of his accent are just bad students who choose not to pay attention to the class.
Professor is very helpful, he is very clear, does not have a accent. But he speaks softly so those in the back row may not catch things unless they are paying attention. Almost no homework ever, test is very easy. Allows 2 full pages of Cheat sheet!!!!!! Extends dates, do makeups etc.
OMG...he takes up so much time taking attendance and talking about stuff other than ECON. Very hard to understand his accent and does not pay any attention to any student. Avoid at all costs!!!
I was looking forward to actually learning about econ. Professor Bastani sets up his class so that you should have no real problem getting an A unless you don't care and don't attend classes. I mean you get extra credit for perfect attendance and doing reports. However I did not enjoy this class mainly because of his teaching style and method.
He actually does prolong roll taking somehow, doesn't bother me. Initially I was worried the 2nd day as we went right into using mathematical formulas which I am horrible at. Class has turned out to be fairly easy and when it comes down to it he is a really nice guy. Attend class and pass no problem!
Mr. Bastani is a very nice professor. One of the best that I took in PCC. You have to study to pass his class, complete study guide questions and read the book. If you will attend every class and write notes from the board, you will pass his class.
professor Bastani is one of the best professors I took at pcc. I wish econ wasn't so hard for me or I would definitely take him again. if you really want to learn about econ and have some one who will do everything he can to help I would definitely recommend him.
He wasn't clear on explaining what he tries to teach.
Worst professor at pcc. It takes him 30 minutes to just get through lecture. Doesn't know how to teach. Just wrote down the same formula everyday, and talked about how much he despises technology. Made me hate econ. DON'T TAKE HIM!
He's a great professor, he cares for all of his students. Only take his class if you are serious about Economics, his class is not for people who do not like to read and study the textbook. Make sure you attend all of the classes because he gives 5% extra credit on your grade for attendance and 2% for participation.
Professor Bastani's class is not an easy. Getting a B is attainablebut you must study. You only get two exams, one paper, and a final exam for grades. He does not curve or give extra credit and spends a lot of time taking roll each day (about 30 mins). He expects you to do the reading and come prepared for lecture.
Professor Bastani is so sweet. He really cares for his students and wants to help them. I took him in the summer 6 week session and I passed (his class is very doable) he clearly goes over his lectures and makes sure everyone understands. TAKE HIM!
Summer 2015: He took time to take attendance but covered all of the material for each day anyways. He did not assign homework at all and provided a few extra credit opportunities. His tests were not difficult if one studied the notes and study guide.
I am currently a student at USC and took the course over summer at PCC hoping it would be easier - and I was right. His extra credit bumps you up by roughly 15% so do it. The tests were mostly multiple choice from the study guide and the free response portions were identical to questions covered in class. Should be an easy A with minimal effort.
Took him for Summer 2015 and he was great. He lets you have two pages of notes (4 sides) for tests. He will take the time to explain things to you if you need it and he tries to be there for you during his office hours.
Professor Bastani truly cares about his students and has such a kind personality. He grades based upon 2 tests, 1 final, 1 project, and participation. Use the Study guide that comes with the textbook to succeed on his tests. You don't really need to do much reading (unless assigned), because his lectures are pretty thorough. Go to office hours.
Professor Bastani is very good at breaking down a topic and explaining it thoroughly. Everything from his lectures can be analyzed further by reading the textbook. He's the professor to take if you want to major in Econ.
Prof Bastani is actually an amazing prof.; only thing he's strict on is attendance so do not skip class/be tardy! He is extremely helpful and truly wants everyone to succeed in his class. He allows two sheets (4 sides) of notes for every exam! sometimes extra credit take-home work. Good attendance (5 pts)+participation (2pts) 7 extra pts
The only hard thing about this class is no reading means no chance of passing this class. He drops students if they don't attend class on regular basis, and the one's who don't take tests. Total of 2 tests in sem. and 1 E.C. and than final. So, very tough exams to pass too. He always answers questions. always take notes they are helpful on tests.
(I have a) 88% in the grade and with those 19% ec That's an overkill easy A. Yes, i agree the exam can be hard but reading and doing the study guide can ensure you a B IF YOU READ/STUDY. People like you who expects an easy A without studying/reading should not be rating a professor at all. Instead open your book and study for god sake.
Dayum that guy on 3/30/2016 got roasted LOL I agree that bastani does give a lot of EC. I have a C right now and the EC might help me get an A. Reading the book is a must if you wanna do well on the mc.
He's not a good teacher. I had to drop the class because he didn't teach. All he does is give a couple of examples in class but he doesn't give instructions, so it's difficult to study your notes for the test. You must study from your book, the test is based on it even if we don't use it in class.
Easy professor. read the book. do mc in study guide. get free 14%+ ec on your final grade. pass with an A, or with a B if you didn't put in the effort.
bastani is really clear in teaching economics. by doing the problem on the board, it really helps the class to understand the material and the concept which is really hard to study on your own. just take notes on what he's saying and you notes will be your ticket to ace the exams. his notes are crystal clear. gives extra credit. must take teacher!!
I would highly recommend this professor to anyone. He's extremely knowledgable and passionate about Economy. It is not an easy subject, but he really does his best to break down the concepts for you. He's also very punny.
Had to drop class. DEFINITELY need the book because he relies on you to read it. Notes were not helpful. He does acronyms for everything and it didn't help me personally. Only gave one extra credit. Grading relies on tests only. No homework.
Professor Bastani is a great Professor. He is not a challenging Professor, meaning there is no critical thinking or analysis that goes into the course, but he does teach the necessary material. If you want an easy A, go to Professor Bastani, if you want a challenge Professor Sung-Kim, but if you want to suffer a bit, go with Professor Jenni Kim.
Probably the worst economics professor. All he ever does is tell you to read the book and do the study guide. It is true that one has to put effort but the content he teaches in class does not help when doing the study guide. He talks more about politics than he does about economics
He gives 3 exams, they make up your ENTIRE grade. Now i know you might think its a hard class, it is. He only teaches the basic concepts. If you fail an exam he will usually bump up the grade by 10% and give extra credit. Participation and attendance is worth 2 and 5 extra credit points respectively. I highly recommend him on extra credit alone.
If English is your second language or your English is not good, you should better not take his class. At least 60% of the grade you get depend on how you read the book and review. His test includes many chapters compared with other professor. When you review these chapters, you would spend more time on it because many things in book he doesn't tell
This professor is a sweet olde man with a heavy heavy accent, but dont let that fool you! I ignored all these reviews on him and took the class and failed. He has no structure and jumps from different chapters. Doesnt teach and just does examples on the board expecting you already know Economics.... you have to teach yourself. Its awful/painful
He's a nice man, he doesnt teach. He expects you to know econ 1a perfectly. His study guides arent like ests. Tests are hard. Most of the class failed/dropped. He rambles on w/ stories. He doesnt lecture. Bounces all over chapters but doesnt say which chapter he is in. Class consists of 3 exams, 2 pts attend, 5 pts xtra credit. SO hard!!!
Not a good teacher at all. Very sweet but not a good teacher. Hard to understand him as well as what he is teaching because he jumps from one chapter to the next without saying so. Very confusing, doesn't use canvas and doesn't even give homework to help your grade. I recommend not taking this class.
Professor Bastani is a good professor. You will need the textbook and the study guide that comes with it. All you have to do is read the textbook and do the study guides and then you'll pass his exams. If you aren't lazy, take his class, if so, then choose some other professors.
Drops on absences. Reading chapter summaries and learn the vocab earns an A/B. Paraphrase them on the notes you're allowed per test and you'll be fine. He curves the first two tests and gives 12pts extra credit. Pay attention in class as lectures are related to test word problems. Don't neglect the class and you'll be fine. Participate early!
I am currently in his class and I got the highest score on the first test, following the curve, I have 105%. If you already have some knowledge of Econ coming in and you actually pay attention in class, take good notes, and make sure you understand what hes doing on the board you will be fine. I didnt even read the textbook, or study very much.
Honestly if you need an easy A this professor is a great choice. The class is structured where you can get 5% added to your grade for attendance and 2% for participation. Essentially the maximum grade is 107% prior to any curves or extra credit that are added. Additionally, the tests are straight out of the text book and are very straight forward
Lot's of extra credit, but an extremely hard professor. Not accessible via email or Canvas. You have to read the study guide and take very specific notes during class.
