I HATED this class and this teacher. She made everything so difficult and NEVER gave out A's!! I am a straight A student and I could not manage to get an A on any of my articles! And what is worse about it is that she does not explain anything, and is not helpful at all in office hours. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!
Absolutely awful teacher. Very unclear and full of herself. Should not be teaching!
Very difficult teacher I had her a few semesters ago and I dreaded going to her class...check out other teachers before you take her class
Dr. Bramlett-Solomon conveyes great enthusiasm for this course and its material. I looked foward to going to this class all semester. Quizes were really easy too.
JMC201 is a lot of work and very time consuming. However, despite the other comments on the page I think Bramlett-Solomon was great. She was feisty and very irritating at times, but she has a good heart. If you are willing to listen to her and take her constructive criticism you’ll be a better writer for it.
I have to put my 2 cents in here.. She is absolutely awful. I don't think she has a good heart, whoever wrote that is giving her too much credit. She was downright rude, cutting, and overly sarcastic. She will drive even the most reasonable student to swearing. Her feedback speaks for itself.
I made two appointments with her for office hours in which she never showed up. She publicly ridiculies her students during class. I thought she was completely rude, and clearly does not care about her students. Out of ALL the professors I have had at ASU, she was by far the worst I have encountered. Do not take her course. She is not helpful.
She's condescending if you don't agree with her, and sometimes she's just rude. She doesn't really teach, and she takes interesting subject matter and beats it to death with a bat.
Classic case of affirmative action at work. Refuses to teach or even listen to students. If she worked in the real world she would be fired immediately for incompetence.
She is a good teacher, digresses a bit, but very interesting.
I don't think she's a bad person, but it's clear she does not want to be teaching. She gets very defensive and often seemed unprepared for class. I got the impression that she was there because she had to be there and would have rather been spending her time doing research.
She plays a game in which she calls on you in class, and if you don't know the answer, she makes you call on someone else. It made me feel uncomfortable. The class was very stressful. I wish we would have learned more about women. The lectures mainly focused on the white man's discrimination against African Americans.
She is the most unqualified professor I have had. Her class is a platform for her "research" because no one else will bother to publish it. Her lectures are all opinion which typically involves white people being ****. All you will learn is that she is bitter and needs attention.
Attendance is required, you can only miss up to 4 classes, after that you get no points. This wouldn't be bad except the class is SUPER boring. The info is interesting and helpful but her teaching style sucks. The upside is the class is pretty easy. As long as you read, come to class and do a little studying before each test you should get an A.
Horrible. She is very unfair and doesnt give you the right amount of points necessary. She is rude and always thinks she is right. Stay away from this teacher!
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She ridicules her students in front of the entire class for asking questions she does not agree with. It is impossible to learn when a teacher spends the entire semester discouraging legitimate questions and thoughtful discussions. Avoid Dr. BS at all costs.
I liked Bramlett-Solomon. She did battle with students often but usually, the student was trying to prove some irrelevant point. She's is very old-fashioned and does not like to be challenged unless you're making a strong point. The work consisted of credit or no credit assignments and the the quizes are directly from the reading.
i loved this teacher. she is going to challenge students about racial factors so dont be in the class if you are going to go home and cry and dont have a tough exterior. she really knows what she is talking about and alot of students hate that but i loved her! just make sure you go to class
Do not take this class. The teacher is awful, loud and very very rude. She is not helpful does not e-mail back and screams and interrupts students if she does not like their opinion. STAY AWAY FROM HER!
Do not take from this teacher. She spends the whole class yelling and screaming and when she surprises a student and asks them an answer she won't let them finish before interrupting them and/or making fun of them. She even would be extremely rude to the disabled students in our class who could not speak well and say "we don't have time for this"!!
Stay AWAY from this teacher! The problem is not the topics we cover in class, when I signed up I knew there would be provocative issues. The problem is that she's rude to students, unclear about assignments, and she forgets everything you have ever said to her. My group has gone to her for help many times and we have zero direction in our project.
Dr. Bramlett-Solomon is very enthusiastic about her subject and encourages participation and understanding. However, the course leaned more to an African-American standpoint rather than an equal view on race in the media.
Her putting students on the spot is great; this is the Cronkite school and there should be pressure. She is entertaining and keeps you interested. But she is disorganized and her quizzes are impossible. The ethics portion is great in that your opinions are valued. Expect a roller coaster ride throughout the semester with her.
Awesome Teacher. If you cant create a clear & to the point response, do not take the course, she expects her students to pay attention and understand what point they're attempting to make. It was humorous to see all of the "offended" students! Please grow up, you think she's bad wait till you enter the real world.
This was one of my favorite classes! I learned so much and got an easy A. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone!
This course is developed to be of one opinion. There is little room for fun, controversial discussion of ethics. Students are interrupted, cut off, or blatantly mocked. The environment was hostile and tense and not conducive for learning. No meaningful discussions were happened at all.
She can be very harsh. She asks questions then interrupts you when you try to answer. I feel she sees the worst in her students. However, I learned a lot in her class. She knows what she's talking about and the material itself makes the class worth taking.
Dr. Bramlett-Solomon is a fantastic teacher who is expert in the subject matter. She tells it like it is and she truly cares for her students and gives many opportunities for extra credit. I learned sooo much in this class about media and social identity. I give it a high five.
SO much extra credit you can get over a 100% take this class. It is so boring at times though. You have to study pretty well for tests to Get an a/b. If youre not an idiot you can get an A.
So if you don't like going to class, this is the class for you. I personally attended every class, but sometimes it was a waste of time. Although very seasoned in her topic, not the best 120 teacher. She makes things up as she goes, and goes through the notes pretty fast. Tests were easy with a little bit of studying. Lots of extra credit!
THIS LADY IS CRAZY and makes everything way more complicated than it needs to be.
borrow dont buy book..dont suck up...follow syllabus and instructions...shes crazy fyi but funny...lets u know when EC is coming so do it...dont turn assignments in late ever...do study guide and pass the tests...cool class and pretty easy..i got an A+ by doing assignments and EC...have common sense and pass the class easy as that.
Changes rules mid-semester. Not in a good way. Makes TA do all of her work for her. You're not allowed to contact her with questions or comments. Would not take again.
I have taken two courses from this professor but only because she offers a ton of extra credit. She is completely dismissive of anyone's opinion but her own and often rambles because she doesn't really know what she's taking about. NEVER have I liked a professor less. (If it matters to you, I'm a straight A student)
She is an ok teacher. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities to help pad your grade. You will need the text book for this class. Your grade is comprised of 3 exams (100 pt. each) and that is it. She did say she was thinking about making the tests online next semester if she is still teaching the course.
She taught a class about racism and favoritism and how the world is unfair and judgmental, and then proceeded to pick favorites in the class and grade people based on if she liked them or not. Horrible grader, boring class, and extremely unhelpful when you are asking questions.
Constantly changing due dates after setting a schedule in syllabus. Only time we find out is the day she announces it. She got defensive and confrontational when questioning when questioning problems which is too bad because the problem was with submitting an assignment. Lecture videos are long and drawn out. Otherwise, its a pretty easy class.
Shes not involved, but this class is set up for you to do well. The assignment aren't hard, little writing, but exams are weighted and you need to pass them. Having said that, tests and exams aren't hard, the reading and videos aren't time consuming. IMO, there is no reason anyone should ever fail this class. Good online class!
Interesting topics. 3 tests that are very comprehensive, short quizzes and some writing assignments. Reasonable time to complete assignments. Very upfront with expectations so review the syllabus. Pulls some questions on big tests from previous quizzes. Utilize study guides she provides and you should do well.
If English is your second language DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The class topics are awesome but she is a VERY tough grader and her test are long with literally no time to think or translate the answers. She deducts points (like a lot) for every grammar mistake. I totally failed the class and I did all the assignments. BE AWARE OF YOUR MONEY AND FA.
Do not take class with her. Severe grader alert!
The material was very different and interesting from the majority of mass communication courses she took. Even though she wrote the textbook it is incredibly enlightening and she is good about avoiding bias.
Her lectures are insanely boring, don't watch them. If you read the book you'll do fine. She tries to find reasons to knock you points bc her class is kind of a joke: 150 word discussion posts, 1 tiny synopsis paper, a couple of simple quizzes, and 3 exams. BIG FEMINIST. Make sure you pay attention to the females in mass comm history!
I'm an A and B student ALWAYS. I took two of her classes and got a D in both of them. DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN!
Provides study guides for exams but not really useful as most test questions have no relation to the study guide questions. Lots to read. Offers extra credit and is realistic with time frames for assignments and tests. 3 major exams and a weekly assignment. Do the work and you will do well.
Do not take this class if you don't have too. The teacher expects a lot from students. The book is more boring than usual history books. The more you read the less you will be able to do the tests. She expects you to devote your time exclusively to her class.
I took the class as a 'fast track' 10 week course. There was a ton of material to cover but as long as you keep a schedule you will do fine! Her online lectures were cool and easy to listen to unlike other online teachers Ive had.
Worst teacher I've had at ASU so far. If you so much as have the smallest grammar error in a discussion board post then you lose half of your grade. Don't understand how hard it is to be an enjoyable teacher. Wouldn't recommend her at all. She turns a 10 minute lecture into 25 by dragging it out and long pauses.
I am about to finish this course with an A. I'm surprised at the low ratings here as I enjoyed this professor. Her lectures were engaging and interesting. This is a senior level course where YOU MUST STUDY to get an A. Her A also starts at 93.75% so you really have to earn it. None the less, a great class and a very good instructor.
She is the reason I have had to postpone my graduation. She postponed every exam and assignment for blackboard issues except the one I missed because of blackboard issues that blackboard even confirmed. Her class has cost me a few grand in tuition and another semester of my time. Don't waste your time or dignity.
Hard for no reason
Definitely feel like she's one of those professor's who you feel like are "tricking" you on the exams. 4 possible answers out of 4 multiple choice. Studies we focused on VERY outdated as well. Still got a decent grade because of other assignments, so this isn't vengeful. 100's on every other assignment but 80 on every exam.
Worse teacher at ASU by far. She is tough for no reason, grades unrealistically, and is extremely rude to her students. If you want to express your opinion, you will fail. She only wants to here what she believes is correct. And she teaches you nothing. All course material is extremely outdated (from the late 70's to mid 90's). Avoid this teacher!
I have gotten all A's and a few B's, but this class was unnecessarily tough. The assignments, readings, videos and lectures were so poorly organized in Blackboard, it was very frustrating. The study guides have no relevance to the tests and the material is also redundant and outdated. Lectures are painfully long and boring.
By far one of the hardest non math classes I have ever taken. She is not very clear when it comes to instructions and there is a lot of material to learn for each test each week. I would not take her unless you absolutely have to
I want to say this was an amazing class. The professor knows how to help students and she offers great feedback. The class was engaging yet challenging and bridged the past with the present. I really enjoyed her. I recommend this course to everyone.
This class is a must take for anyone who is interested in communication and broadcasting. Dr. Bramlett-Solomon, is one of my favorite professors. This is my second time having her as a professor and she challenges me to think outside the box and to not be afraid of speaking my mind. She is always available and willing to help.
Her lectures are unbearable to listen to. I get the practice of repetition, but listening to her speak makes me want to drop the class. The tests were somewhat easy if you listened to her god awful lectures and read the book. The book is seriously boring and outdated. I honestly don't recommend taking any of her classes.
She may be one of the worst professors I've had at ASU. Her lectures are impossible to listen to, the class is laid out in a confusing way, and she purposely tries to trick you with her quiz and exam questions. The book is a must, a lot of the answers can be found in that and the other required readings so you don't have to deal with her lectures.
I took both her MCO418 & MCO460 class. Her class is easy to follow and straight to the point. She loves giving out extensions to the due dates. I didn't buy the book because majority of the test questions are in the lectures and assigned articles just have them open. Those who say she is tough clearly didn't even try.
Dr. Bramlett - Solomon is a stellar professor. The class syllubus was well organized, her lectures were super informative and the assignments/tests cerrwere very concise. After taking this course you will definitely be equip for the real world. I look forward to taking more classes that she offers.
Taken both 460&418. The course layout can be a little confusing, but she uses the same format (even the same assignment schedule) for all of her courses. A lot of the material she uses in 460 is outdated. It would be nice to have information past the 1980s. Ultimately not very hard and she actually seems to care about students.
I have taken 2 courses with Professor Bramlett-Solomon. She did take a little getting used to since her format is a little different, but keep up and you'll do fine. Do the readings, watch the videos, and study for the tests. She provides a study guide- fill out and you will do well on the tests.
She speaks sooooo slowwww. Her 20 minute lecture could be done in 3 minutes but she speaks so slow and doesn't seem like she knows what she is talking about. She doesn't seem very credible and not very convincing of what she is teaching. But as long as you listen to the lectures and read through all of the lengthy and somewhat confusing directions, there is no reason you can't get an A. Overall she makes it pretty boring but as long as you listen to lectures and do the work, it's easy.
The EXTREAMLY required textbook is only available in paperback, so it's not searchable and is not fun to lug this relatively large book everywhere you plan on working on the assignments or quizzes. this class is easy at first because it is mostly discussion boards, but the quizzes and tests are ambiguous. TAKE THIS CLASS OVER SUMMER WITH DIFF PROF.
I put 0 effort in this class as far as reading . Never watched any of her lectures and failed all the tests, I however did pass all the assignments and the final and I got a C in the class. She is a great communicator and posts everything in announcements on BB ,If you put effort you'll pass the class.
The worst professor I have ever had in my life. Her lectures are painfully boring, voice is dull and plain, not to mention the class set up is poor and terribly run. I feel like I have learned absolutely nothing in this woman's course. Taking notes or anything will not help you in this class. I've seriously never been so disgusted to be in a class.
When reading the harsh reviews before taking MCO 460 I was very nervous, but honestly I am confused as to why the reviews are so harsh. The course is different than any other Cronkite course - in a GOOD way. The tests are difficult, but the weekly assignments are interesting and challenge you to think outside your opinion. I really learned a lot!
Up to this point, I've had very good teachers at ASU, but she is a totally different story. Her lectures are boring and her voice is grating. She misspells words constantly and has bad grammar. Exams are also a rough spot. Half of her questions are either not on the study guide she provides you with, or they're just too difficult to understand.
I have taken many classes and this by far has to be the hardest class i have had. She is not helpful when asking for test taking stratagies and copied and pasted the sylabus to me. Prepare to read the book and don't even use the study guide, it wont help. She is awful and this will be the first class I've failed because she is so difficult.
The class is very reading heavy. Her accent is difficult to listen too but her lectures are informative. I have found that the study guides are a really good place to start when studying for her tests. Assignments are tricky but easy overall. Tests are a HUGE deal. YOU HAVE TO READ & LISTEN TO THE LECTURE. It is a brain heavy class.
Read the other comments, they are accurate. Her video lectures are painful to listen to. She demands that you call her Dr. and call her TA "Ms.", yet she addresses you by your first name. DBs are limited and you don't have to respond to other students. Her class announcements are strangely highlighted and capitalized. 12 points in EC were given.
3 tests worth 300 pts and misc assignments worth 100 pts. The textbook is rough. Her lectures could be used for enhanced interrogation of terrorists. She has too many rules regarding email or hallway conversations DB, making you not want to contact her. My eighth MCO course and by far the worst.
3 tests worth 100 points. A couple discussions, some multiples choice questions, and a syllabus quiz that total up to 400. Sends way too many emails. Gave 12 points for extra credit. I never read the book its awful. I guessed on the tests and I'm getting an A. I'm sure its pure luck though. I'd think twice before taking this course.
The study guides dont help at all. The tests are worded horribly. If you ask for help she will just send you back the syllabus. Her lecture videos dont help either. I am an A student and I barely got a B in this class. Oh and be prepared to get an email EVERY DAY from her! I felt like the weekly assignments had nothing to do with the class!
Bramlett is a true gem to ASU! I loved her lectures and the reading content she chose. She really cares about the topic she teaches, and I learned more than I ever expected. She also does a lot of announcements and reminders, so it's easy to succeed in her class, as long as you keep up with your work. Her classes are worth the effort!
Dr. Bramlett-Solomon was a great professor to have for MCO 460. The expectations were clearly outlined, and if you do the work you will succeed. She is very passionate about the subject she teaches.
What I like about Professor Bramlett Soloman is that she is clear about what she is looking for in assignments. She puts the word count she wants, due dates are clear, she gives reminders. She makes it easy in that sense. Her assignments are usually pretty easy too, and even the exams aren't very hard. And she doesn't overload you with work.
This class isn't very hard. You can pass if you watch the lecture videos. However, the lecture videos are unbearable. She has an extremely, annoying voice and chews gum the entire time. Each video is about 30 mins long and there are 19 videos total.
"And with that, I'll stop. it is a wrap " that is how Dr. SBS ends each lecture video (I love it). Yes, her lecture videos are LONG, but she is a good orator. The good news is, lecture video provides a lot of answers that appear on the midterm and tests. Lectures are heavy, and you will definitely need to purchase the textbook. Overall good class.
I was really surprised by some of the comments that I saw on here. I took Dr. Solomon for MCO 418 which was a required course for my degree. Not only did I really enjoy the material but she also provides you with detailed lectures and a study guide. If you put in the time you will pass, I am currently signed up to take her other class MCO 460.
She seemed to always be stressed about something and wasn't accessible via email. I made a bad score on a test after the passing of my grandmother and she never responded to my email(s). She gave "Extra EXTRA credit"; that tells me something about the quality of her teaching and not the caliber of her students. Not personable and unfair grading.
A good amount of reading and videos to watch, but the material is very interesting. Like all classes, make sure you set time aside for reading and you will pass. Will definitely sign up to another class.
The class is clearly laid out and easy to follow. You need to watch her videos and take good notes to be able to do well on the tests. I took the class session A online and there was 1 assignment due every Tuesday. Many of these assignments required you to watch a video so be prepared to spend 1.5-2 hours on some of the weekly assignments.
I love Dr. SBS. She is kind, understanding, and inspirational. She always responded to my emails in her promised 72-hour window. The course is straightforward so as long as you watch the lectures and take notes, you'll do good on assignments. Her lectures are long but I sped up the video recording and paused to take notes, which helped.
Dr. Bramlett-Solomon had a great MCO 460 class. She was very communicative about deadlines and grading. The class is easy as long as you watch the lectures and go over all of the review questions before the test. She definitely deserves about a 4-5 stars, at least for this class.
The video lectures are absolutely awful. She speaks so slowly, inconsistently and in an accent I can't fully understand. I've been constantly getting points knocked down on assignments because I'm over the word count, but she also says I didn't address all the points. Very harsh grader and horrible lecturer. Considering dropping this class.
