Needs to improve computer skills - (first year using D2L for lecture class) Please separate grading criteria for lecture classes from online classes. Everyone should have access to notes if we are being tested on same materials. Swapping instructors on day of a midterm was not a good idea.
While Sharon is a bit more brusque than Dennis, I believe her heart is in the right place. This is the first term for this class to be online, so hopefully they will smooth out the idea that a final should be like it is in-class.
This class was super doable. I advise to do this class online. The lectures were straight forward. There was a quiz about every 2 weeks. The assignment's were mostly your opinion based on lectures and an article. As long as you participated and responded to class mates you get 100%. Thoughtful teacher. Extra credit was offered.
This class was so interesting and fun. The quizzes were well put and the discussions were always interesting to read and write about. I have learned about.
This class was fine, but didnt really focus on the laws as much as the ethics and was heavily discussion based.
Sharon and Dennis are awesome instructors. They make such a dry class like law and ethics much more interesting than you could imagine. They are also easy in grading and providing extra credits.
Great class without a lot of work overload! Weekly discussions, quizzes, and article readings that are really interesting. Would definitely recommend!
I really enjoyed being part of this class, you do discussions every week and participate in the discussions with your classmates it does not feel like a overload class of homework. i recommend this class to anyone because the my teacher was really helpful in making sure we understood what needed to be due when.
This was a fun class with some tough topics. The information was presented well and was not overwhelming. Pay close attention to the deadlines.
Sharon was a good instructor. We had weekly discussion, and every now and then a quiz going over the last couple of weeks. We had required reading material that she would post, so we didn't need to buy a book. For discussions, the answers are all subjective so there is no right answer, do the discussions on time, and you will get the full points.
Tests and quizzes were based on the lectures that were all multiple choice. As long as you do the assignments and study for it, you'll be ready. The questions were literally based on the readings the assignments were about.
Good class and infomation.
good instructor
Very interesting. I learned a lot. Get ready to read a bunch!
Thank you for loving your job so much! You are an amazing teacher. Thanks for everything you taught me last year as well as your support. You have always gone above and beyond the expectations of a 'great' professor.
The class was good. There is a lot of reading material with lectures and assignments. Not a hard course though since ethics are pretty much your opinion and there is no right or wrong. The only issue I had was not getting email responses to questions I had about a presentation. Often times the wait was long or the email was just not answered.
The class is super straightforward and I know exactly what I need to do to meet their needs. A pretty good range of competency in your work will still meet criteria if you're actually trying, even if you're not as articulate or involved as others might be. It shows when you're not trying, though. They definitely want you to succeed. :)
I enjoyed being in this class. Eventhough it was online the instructor provided the articles we had to read and did weekly disscusions and had quizzes. Also, we had one group project. I would recommend this class.
she was really understanding , her syllabus is easy to understand homework is not heavy it actually is a decent amount if you do the readings tests and quizzes are multiple choice
I find it interesting to take this class even though lectures are not easy to remember all the concepts. We discuss different articles each week, quizzes, presentations, and final exams. We should make these on time and take the time to learn a little bit more.
I like this class very much because it was so fun and the class schedule was very organized.
I enjoyed taking this class. The discussions were good and very interesting to do. Overall, this class was fun.
Super great class! The material was well delivered and the weekly discussions really had me thinking!
I learned so much from Sharon's class. She gives clear instructions when it comes tp homework, quizzes, and discussions. I recommend taking her class.
The materials and resources used in this class were pertinent and relative to the topics discussed. I appreciated all the articles assigned to be used as examples in forming my own opinion. I'm glad there was no text book used but instead real life, current case studies and court decisions that made it easier to apply the info learned.
I took this class online, and I was thinking will be very hard because it is about health law and ethic. Sharon's class is great, the lecture is clear and there are extra credit. about the quizzes, if you do study and do the require read news, you will get a good grade.
Professor Brill clearly sets the expectations for the class. It's one of those do the work and you can surely pass the class. She also offers extra credit.
- I like how she gave extra credit, the discussions are a not a wrong or right answer, she is willing to help.
He's a good professor, I would take his class again. His knowledge is perfect to cover all the information that we need to learn from this course. But the quizzes are a bit hard since they are from breaking news and we are required to read all of them.
Brill takes long time to answer you or doesn't answer at all. There is a lot of homework quizzes every two weeks and get ready to read a lot. Participation matters a lot in this class if you don't do so you can for sure not pass the class.
Lots of reading and participation is a must.
I took MP 140 with Sharon and Dennis. An issue felt by many students was the lack of communication between the professors and students. There were delays of up to 1 week in response to student questions. I think the class could be structured a lot better. For example, less quizzes and more assignments.
I felt like this professor's lectures and teaching style was outdated. Several of the breaking news articles were from 2013. Her quiz questions seemed silly and not about the overall topics. The class was fine and I did enjoy the other professor who co-taught a lot! There is a group project and an in depth discussion question every week.
Professor Brill was a good instructor and whenever I needed assistance, she was fast to respond. It was a lot of reading throughout the term and creating discussion posts. It was a little confusing albeit having two professors for this class - especially as it felt very divided between the two professors and the lectures.
The class instructions were clear to me, I never questioned what I had to do. As long as you read the syllabus and the schedule you'll know what is expected. Each week was about the same, a lot of reading and a discussion weekly with a couple quizzes throughout the term. One group project at the end. very informative class.
It's difficult to feel in touch with your teachers with online classes, I think Sharon Brill did a great job of communicating and making this class straightforward. I rarely felt confused about what I was supposed to do next and knew that if I did have any questions they would be answered. Thanks for a great semester!
Sharon Brill is a very great professor. She is always not top of things and is very quick when it comes to grading and providing feedback. She takes her time to read everyones discussion post and gives us weekly feedback on our posts. Very great teacher and very straightforward and easy online class!
The online course is well organized, and participation matters, we had 1 group project. This class is a lecture-heavy course along with heavy reading that is clearly organized and seamlessly tied to a week to weekly topics.
The online course was very well organized heavy on lectures and reading. Participation really matters to stay on task, with seamless weekly topics.
Ms. Brills class was super interesting & i truly learned a lot. i would loving having her as a teacher in a different class. It would be really hard to fail her class, she gives very clear criteria, provides you with what you need & is willing to help you if you need it.
Sharon Brill is a great instructor with a lot of experience in this field. Her lectures are clear and easy to understand. I learn much good knowledge from her feedback. I recommend other students take her class.
The class overall is great. The only thing is the final is composed of questions from everyone's presentation so you have to review and read all presentation (aprx 10-12). Other than that, the course is reasonable sine you are solely responsible for the reading materials.
Follow with the schedule.
I took MP140 and found this class incredibly valuable and things I've learned have already helped me working in the healthcare industry. If you log on and do your work (the work load is consistent through the term) you will get an A.
Professor Brill is a very nice instructor! I would definitely take another course of hers.
This class offered excellent and very relevant content! This was the most compelling piece to the course. It had consistent work load throughout the term, so was predictable to plan for.
Straightforward class, I took this so I could pass the medical assisting program which is the main reason why a lot of people take it. There is a group project but it's make a google slides and there's plenty of topic options to suit different interests. I learned a lot from other's presentation. No trick questions on the quizzes.
She's a good professor, I would take her class again. We will find her quizzes difficult and so many if we do not read all the information she provides. However, you will get through it if you read and understand the lessons. She is very thorough in grading and enthusiastically comments on your assignments via email.
Good class
I don't like the way she responded to my emails. She does not accept any work late. Also, she mistook my name and congratulated another student on my work. I must admit that the readings are entertaining and informative, and the quizzes are not that difficult if you understand the material.
The course was pretty much self-taught, in that you read the lectures provided and take quizzes on the material in the lectures. There wasn't much interaction with the instructor outside of a check in announcement each week. I didn't have any questions that needed to be answered via email, but she said if we had any questions we can ask them.
Very responsive and knowledgeable in health, law, and ethics.
A lot of reading but relatively easy class. Does not accept late work.
She had the modules set up pretty well with weekly discussions, and she has a Friday night at 11:30 deadline for these. Be really careful to post before the deadline, not even a minute late or she will give you a 0. She was extremely inflexible in this way and gives no fair credit based on the amount of work you do if it is even a minute late.
Was an online class. Keep up with readings that are posted, there is no textbook. Group project was with one other student to submit a presentation together but didn't have to actually present it just turn in to discussion board.
Weekly schedule was clear and easy to follow. Grading was straightforward. Discussion posts were due every Friday at midnight, as long as you followed the prompts you get full credit. Quizzes and tests were based on the provided material. One group project but did not need to actually present it. Overall, I would take another class with professor.
As a student with accommodations in place, they weren't easy to talk to. I had asked for some clarification and was instead send to reread what I had already read. When I needed to use my accommodations, they didn't respond to my email in an efficient manner.
This class was a positive experience for me. Professor Brill was kind and her teaching style was very effective for me. The structure of the class was well-organized which facilitated my understanding of the new material posted every week. The assignment due dates were also clearly communicated. Overall, I really liked this class!
Awesome teacher!
Sharon is amazing! I enjoy her way of teaching, and definitely will take her class again.
Ms. Sharon Brill knows a lot about healthcare laws.
This instructor has laid out the course work really clearly and in manageable chunks. It is a lot of reading but it is all interesting so it doesn't feel too bad. She incorporates a learning space that is respectful and encourages empathy. This instructor is strict on timeline, even if you are sick or make a mistake.
Intuitive D2L formatting, online lectures are comprehensive and easy to follow. Great feedback from instructor and peers in discussions and weekly check-ins.
Professor Brill was very clear from the beginning of the term of what she expected from her students. I also liked that no textbooks were needed for her class, instead she had her own lectures and also included PCC articles in the weekly assignments.
It was nice to learn the basics of law and ethics from Sharon Brill. The assignments and readings in the course helped me to have a strong grasp on all the necessary information I needed to learn. It was also nice to receive some positive encouragement mid semester from Sharon in an email telling me I had an A so far and to keep up the good work.
Clear instructions. Plenty of time to do homework. Lots of reading, but very entertaining, interesting, and informational. Would definitely take another class with this professor again.
The class was fully remote it allowed me to do the school work at my own time and after my 1 year old went to bed. Definitely enjoyed the class as it allowed for freedom of expression and speech, and respected each individual point of view without criticism. Very accessible to reach when you needed help with a class material or grade.
This professor's class is very firm on grading and participation matters. Overall, would take another course with this instructor.
The Professor did a great job focusing on law and ethics as it relates to the healthcare field. Lots of different learning opportunities and great pulse on current articles and ethical/legal healthcare issues.
This professor has clear due dates for all the assignments. It's an online class so there is a lot of reading in the syllabus: lectures, breaking news... At the beginning of every week, we had a wrap-up letter kinda and the professor would discuss our past discussions and give us a look into what we were doing next. It's a great class :)
I found this class to incredibly useful in life and the information provided was interesting. The views and perspectives were balanced and thoughtful as well as thought provoking. I would recommend this class and Instructor.
- The professor is very clear on homework agenda, study guides, tests, etc. - Responds to emailed questions. - Was consistent on due dates and deadlines. - Would recommend this teacher.
This professor was very clear, and made the assignments simple to find and understand.
Professor was very clear on how things were going to be graded. Yes it is lecture heavy and a lot of information you have to remember but as long as you actually take the time to do the work and read the material you should be completely fine. Routine consist of lecture readings, discussion, and quiz every other week. Also 1 final group project.
Professor used several learning modalitets which helped retain information. Included news articles relevant to class material. Established a respectful environment.
The instructions and grading rubrics are very clear. There are weekly discussions with breaking news articles, and I actually enjoyed all the topics we got to discuss. One thing I struggled with was the presentation with the partner since it was an online class, and there was a little confusion at the beginning of the assignment.
Instructor was very clear about expectations and was informative. Class was online and I enjoyed her teaching style.
At first, MP 140 seemed overwhelming with lots of reading and lectures. However, it became easier once I got used to it. Reading the lectures and materials helped a lot. The professor was kind and always available to communicate. The course modules were well-organized and manageable.
I took this class since it is a prerequisite. I went into the class thinking it was. going to be hard but as long as you keep up with the reading's and discussions, you will do fine. There is multiple quizzes but if you read the material all the answers will be there.
Everything is laid out in the modules, each week we had a discussion and some weeks we had a cumulative quiz which were fairly easy if you read through the lectures and did the discussions. I enjoyed the way the class was organized and the powerpoint project in the end of the term! I enjoyed this class and I'd take another class from Sharon :)
Sharon made this class a very easy learning environment. I was never confused during the lectures, she was very straight-forward about everything we needed to know for quizzes.
This class is amazing, very straight forward, and very interesting topics. Definitely recommend this online class 100%.
