She is a very good teacher. She is very interested in her students and helping them succeed. She gives extra credit and tells you what will be on the test. The test are in depth, but not too bad if you study. I enjoyed her class.
This was one of my favorite class and one of my favorite teachers. She will clarify questions on a test so don't be afraid to ask. She moves slow and seems to always be in a good upbeat mood. She is fun and makes the class fun!
She was so helpful. The material was dense and it takes a lot of studying but she gives extra credit on every test and literally is willing to go over all of the material with you if you put in enough effort and make and appointment. I am a biology minor with no cell biology or chem background and I made an A. And its an interesting class!
She's a terrific professor. It's obvious through her teaching style that Biology is something of great interest to her. Dr. Bullock is upbeat, articulate, and always willing to help clarify things. Her notes are awesome. Hands down, cell was my favorite class of the entire semester.
Dr. Bullock makes vertebrate histology very interesting - she gives the class a lot of flexibility with work too. No lab reports is great (for a 4 credit class.) However, there is a lot of material and you need to know how to study the right/important things.
Had her for A&P and was really looing forward to the class but this ended up being my least favorite class of the semester- yes I liked O chem better then this class. Not hard, she takes notes directly from the book to a power point and reads directly off the power point no point to go to class. Tests were a bit tricky
Great Prof, knows her stuff. Here's how to make an A in her class: attend lecture and fill in the blanks on the notes she gives you, go home and memorize those notes verbatim. That's it. Follow this advice and you'll do fine. Don't waste money on the book, either. You won't need it.
Worst instructor I have ever had. There is a ton of material but if you go to class and fill in the blanks on her notes then memorize those VERBATIM you will get an A. It is clear she doesn't understand the material completely and cannot answer questions that arent on her slides. If you actually want to learn cell biology, take Parrow.
She may be intelligent, however she is not good at teaching. She reads powerpoints in class and talks as if she is teaching 2nd grade. Accumulative final brought everyone's grade down a letter. Just memorize every single word. Little details will be emphasized on her tests.
It is obvious she is very intelligent, however she should be using that in the lab because she is not a great professor. Everything is on power points and the test requires memorization not actually learning. She talks as if she has previously worked on the set of Blue's Clues.
She's definitely intelligent, however, her teaching style is awful! Most of the test questions come from her notes (which she posts on Moodle). I used the book more for the illustrations/charts. Just go to class and pay attention.
Bullock's class is the easiest to test well in. SI sessions are the key to an A. Know the material early. Study ahead of time. She gives easy assignments in class for attendance. She's the best option UNCC has in my opinion. The other prof's are MUCH harder. She couldn't answer a few questions I had in class, but you have to be realistic.
Dr. Bullock is by far the best biology teacher I have had at uncc. She is always there to help and she takes a great interest in the success of her students. She truly cares and wants us to succeed. I made an A with a lot of effort. She teaches off her power points but clarifies everything in class. Her tests are very fair.
Dr. Bullock TRIES to make to class easy, most of the test is directly off of the notes. HOWEVER, this semester (now that Dr. Cao is over course content & the lab) her tests aren't as straight forward as she makes them seem. Do the study guides, flashcards for bolded words in the PowerPoint, etc.
This class was pretty difficult but not impossible if you put a ton of effort. Took it over the summer (so 5 weeks instead of 16). The tests definitely emphasized small details that you wouldn't think to be on the test so make sure you study the notes seriously. Dr. Bullock is very kind and always willing to help. She's a great teacher.
In the Dept of Biology at UNCC, Bullock is God sent. Her tests follow lecture notes (so go to class!!) which are full of interesting information and can seem overwhelming at times. She tries to make sure everyone gets the material and therefore goes a bit slow but surprisingly gets everything covered in time. She is very nice, and super helpful.
Other than talking down to you like your ten years old, Dr. Bullock gets the job done. She tests right off her PowerPoints so really study those. Tests consist of multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and free response. DO NOT STUDY the night before the test. You will not do well. Extra credit if you attend SI. Attendance randomly taken.
Prof. Bullock is a great prof. Her tests aren't straight from the power points, but a lot of it is. She assigns homework every now and then, but lets you turn in whatever you didn't do on the final day with no penalties. She will go out of her way to help you out. Attendance taken randomly. Never used the textbook. Awesome prof, highly recommend!
Hardest class ever! If you haven't seen biology since your sophomore year in high school then avoid this class. I switched majors and tried to take this as a credit for biology and had to end up taking 1101 the next semester! DON'T if you haven't seen a bio book in 3 years!!
She rushes through the lectures at a rate of almost a chapter every class. I'm struggling to make a C in this class. She is very specific and particular in the power points and will test you word for word on the tests. The tests have free response and fill in the blank. There are tons of terms so be prepared to study.
she's a great teacher
Dr. Bullock is one of the few STEM professors that actually grades fairly. Gen bio isnt that hard if you take her. Just fill out the study questions, and kinda pay attention. Beware, she will talk to you like you are a toddler in her class. Good bio teacher overall. Easy A
Dr. Bullock is an amazing professor! She doesn't give a lot of homework but you will have some from time to time. Gives extra credit for going to S.I. on the first two tests. I got an A in the course, so it isn't impossible, just have to study from her powerpoints AND GET HER SUPPLEMENTS IN CLASS.
she is very good teacher but unorganized lectures and rushing through them to meet deadline (test schedule). She doesn't go over the lectures or ppt from last semester to make sure they should or should not cover in current class. Don't need use book , study on PPT, and pay attention to what she said in the class you will do just fine.
Only teaches 10% of the material on the test.
She lectures directly from ppt, but I advise reading the book on the topics covered in class for clarification and better understanding. Also, STUDY STUDY STUDY! Unless you're good at bio, then good luck trying to cram a day before. Grade outline: 4 exams (15% each), hw+participation (15%), and 1 cumulative final (25%).
Bullock is a brilliant woman. If you go to her office hours she's more than willing to help you out and re-explain concepts. Having said that, if you didn't take AP bio or aren't very familiar with bio concepts, this class will be HARD. Tests based straight off power point but they're not easy. You'll have to work for an A.
Test questions do not come from the lectures!! You have to memorize that textbook to pass.
Worst class I've ever taken
Dr. Bullock is the best Bio professor. Her lectures are very in depth and she would repeat the materials that would be on tests, or drop some hints so go to class every day and pay attention. She also gives out extra credit on every tests! Have an A in the class even though I did not take AP Bio.
In all honesty, I was a science genius in high school and did not believe the stories surrounding Professor Bullock and how her tests were irrelevant compared to her lectures but I was wrong. I was great at AP Bio in high school, but her class is a living hell. She tries to say certain things will be on the test but they aren't. You will fail this.
As the previous commenter said, she is extremely hard and doesn't teach you anything that will be on the test. She has good intentions with a nice attitude but not worth taking her class.
Dr. Bullock is very intelligent and enthusiastic however her teaching skills are average at best. She reads directly from the PowerPoint slides and the only way to pass the class is to memorize the homework and PowerPoint slides. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Bullock to anyone trying to boost their GPA or is in need of the class as a major requirement.
The hardest class I took my freshman year. She speeds through every powerpoint to meet syllabus dates. On exams, she grades hard. Each exam has multiple choice, fill in the blank (no word bank) and short answer. The final is the same format. All of the mastering homework is due at the end of the semester, there's an assignment for each chapter.
Dr. Bullock is nice. That's all. Nice. Her exams are extremely difficult and her teaching method sucks.
Dr. Bullock is a great professor. She explains things perfectly and helps you in many cases. She tries her best to help students. Cell requires effort and tim and you will get an A if you work for it. Just put in the time. I learned so much from her class. she taught me for bio 2120. I also got to meet with her a couple of times. She is the best
Dr Bullock is a mediocre professor, at best. She reads directly from the powerpoint and gives a few examples here and there. Her tests are extremely difficult and she is a tough grader who won't cut you any slack. The only grades are the online work and the tests. I would recommend taking another professor if you have that option.
Awful teacher. Reads from slides. Pointless to go to class. Tests don't correspond to slides. Could study for hours, days on in, and still fail a test. Doesn't teach at all. Only tests and homework as grades and homework barely counts for anything. DO NOT TAKE. I have never made a C in my life, but dropped from A's and Bs to a D in the class.
Took her for bio 1 and cell. She's wonderful. She makes her own slides hence why she reads from them. She also goes into more depth. Got As in both and taking her for histology. If you did bad in this class it was your own fault not Dr. Bullocks. You can sleep walk and get a C but must bust your butt to get an A.
I really enjoyed Dr. Bullock's class and her teaching style. She is very passionate about the material and often gets excited when teaching it. I thought she was funny, but my friends didn't agree. She cares as much about her students as she does the material. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
She testes based on her lectures so you pretty much have to come to class to keep up. She goes straight from the syllabus so if your a 88.9 don't expect to get bumped up. Tests were pretty hard.
Good lecturer! Definitely knows her stuff and very passionate about biology. Her exams have MC, fill in the blank, and free response. She's lax on the free response and gives easy extra credit. She's also pretty accessible outside of class hours. She gives the entire semester to do the online homework so pace yourself on that and you're set
Hands down, Dr. Bullock is a very knowledgeable professor. I took her class during my first semester of college, and ended up getting a C - but that's because I did not take studying very seriously at first. She is very kind and will always help you, but you MUST work hard for your grade. Take her class, study, and you'll do fine!
Bullocks Gen Bio 1 really is not that difficult. I had to work for my A but not ridiculously hard. This is the first Biology course in the major; if this is a struggle its time to be worried!!!
Dr. Bullock has become one of my favorite professors at UNCC. When I had taken her for General Bio 1 I made a low grade, while now I am making a relatively high grade in Cell Bio. These grades are fair. She won't test you on anything she hasn't covered. If she does, she will probably give some probably give some points back.
Dr. Bullock is a wonderful lecturer, as well as a fascinating human being. She carefully provided you with the information that you need in order to fully understand the fundamentals of biology. As long as you read the textbook and pay attention, you'll do great. I'm really skeptical about those who gave her a port rating. They could be lazy.
Dr. Bullock is the worst professor. She reads straight from the lecture slides, which you can do yourself at home. For a doctor she is very unprofessional and inattentive to her students. Without reading the book chapters, keeping up with the online Mastering assignments and reading the lecture slides, you WILL NOT pass this class, even with a D.
Hard course. Study along the way
Take good notes, especially on examples she gives in class. Powerpoints are thorough. She has a habit of going through a whole example that is not printed in the power point and then she'll say "you got that? good." and it always ends up being a free response question
You will probably get a higher grade taking a different professor. Gives challenging multiple choice tests... like 75 average for all students for 4 tests. Treat it like a hard class with her, and make sure you thoroughly understand questions b4 applying ur knowledge. Nice lady just hard.
Make sure YOU ATTEND EACH LECTURE CLASS. She gives out examples not listed on the powerpoint. She also gives extra credit in class up to 6 points on the exam. Her exams are pretty challenging. Every question on the exam makes you double think. Reading the textbook helps a lot. Attend TA sessions for an opportunity for more extra credit.
Probably one of the hardest Bio class I have taken. Her exams are super in depth! Alot of short answers!! Seriously for a 3000 lvl class she makes this course harder than what it should be! Try avoiding taking Biotech with her if possible because this particular course, shes goes very in depth for an "INTRO" class. Super Hard class!
Dr. Bullock is clearly passionate about biology and is incredibly knowledgeable. Exams are tough, but if come to lecture and take good notes you should have no problem passing.
Dr. Bullock is a very good professor. She wants you to succeed, she explains everything very clearly. She also has plenty of resources available for her students to help them study for the exams. She usually has extra credit portion in her exams.
The best teacher I've had at UNCC so far. The content is difficult but she is beyond helpful at giving you the tools you need to succeed. She gave us study guides, guided notes, online lecture (of her talking), and online PowerPoint notes. The tests are EVERY detail from the PowerPoint. It's still tough. No
Had her for Cell. Really solid professor. She cares whether or not students understand the material and is very nice in answering questions. Go to class and pay attention, even if there's no attendance. Grades are four tests, a few online assignments worth a test, and the final. Tests can be a bit tough but nothing crazy. They're pretty fair.
Attendance is not mandatory, three exams and a final. Never used textbook, you could pass exams solely based on powerpoints. Has recorded lectures that are really helpful. Really cares about her students, and teaches with great passion.
Amazing professor. Her lectures are interesting and she will answer your questions in detail. Her powerpoints & lectures are available online in case you're absent. We didn't really use the textbook because everything was on her powerpoints but she does reference figures from the book. The tests are easy if you study, she does not try to trick you
Super amazing teacher! She is always willing to answer questions and is there to help you succeed! You do not need to purchase the textbook since all of the test questions come from the powerpoints. However, you will pretty much need to memorize the powerpoints word for word in order to do well on the exams. Gives extra credit questions on exams.
I took this class freshman year and got an F, even though I worked hard and went to every lecture. Grade replaced it two years later, with a different professor, and got an A. I have made an A or a B in every other class I have taken, I am now a senior. I still have nightmares about this class.
Literally Dr. Bullock is a baddie. She's SO good at explaining everything and she makes complicated processes like protein transportation incredibly simple. Her exams are mild but if you study them you should be able to ace them. IDK what the old reviews are talking about-- she's the 2nd best professor I've had at UNC Charlotte
I really enjoyed her class! She allowed us to work ahead on assignments so I never felt overwhelmed. Her assignments, PowerPoints, and lectures going over notes really help prepare you for her tests. She seems really passionate about what she does and she was extremely nice. Very helpful and a fair grader! I would definitely take class from her!
She's a great professor, but the material is very dense. Didn't study the first exam, made a 70. Studied for the second exam, made a 60. Straight up cheated using the powerpoints and notes on the third exam and made a 50. Take that as you will. A lot of figures from the textbook were on the powerpoints so you don't really need it.
Dr. Bullock is by far the best professor I have ever had. She reaches many different learning strategies in regard to how different students learn. She makes sure everyone learns the material in a fun and interesting way while also including application of the material. The book isn't necessary because of her teaching being great.
Professor Bullock was a great instructor this semester, but this isnt a class where you can only put in minimum effort and expect maximum results. Attendance is optional, but being present for lectures allows you to really grasp the material. She is concise and summarizes the info for better retention and understanding. Deserves a better rating.
Take this class with literally any other professor. She doesnt respond to emails and lies about her testing format and what is/isnt going to be on the tests. Offers close to no extra credit. Tests dont line up with study guides, lectures, or power points . Very unprofessional professor and probably the worst ive had at UNCC.
If you get the chance to take BIO 3161, I'd highly recommend it. It's a good overview of biotechnology, but isn't too extensive for non-biology majors. Dr. Bullock is very caring and is more than willing to help you out. If you study the notes and come to class a B is very doable, but you'll definitely need to study extra for an A.
I prayed I could have taken this class with anyone else after dropping her once. She cares, she does, but she expects you to know very specific examples. Her study guide was not helpful since she just wants you to know everything she covered in lectures. Take anyone else. My friend even had way more extra credit opportunities with another professor
Professor Bullock is great! She's nice and helpful, but incredibly vague about the contents of her exams. She has all these different activities to do to try and help you remember the material, but the exams were not easy. If you're passionate about biology, I would suggest Bullock, but otherwise, try to take someone else.
Online summer class. She was nice enough to offer 10 points extra credit on the exams. Had to know examples of every structure and exams were conceptual. Dense material so I wouldn't recommend taking it over the summer. Emailed her with questions about the notes and all she ever said was to watch the videos.
Just finished the online final. She sent an email that said, "if it is not on the study guide, it will not be on the final exam", but there were several questions about things that weren't on the study guide that I thought I didn't need to study because of the email that said it wouldn't be on the final. Really frustrating, but I passed.
Having a professor that enjoys their job makes a difference. This was one of the easiest science classes I have taken here. It helps a lot to go to lectures because info she gives will most likely come up on tests. Tests were 60%, but she sent out really helpful study guides. She also gives small assignments to help your grade.
The class was pretty easy to understand and grasp if you come to lectures and do the post lecture work. Assignments that weren't exams were commonly graded for completion. One group project that lasted 4-5 weeks where you could finish it in 3 days. Lenient when it comes to short answer and longer questions in exams.
I enjoyed Dr. Bullock's class this summer. I am not a Biology major so some of the topics were a little confusing for me but if you study the PowerPoints you should be fine. She gives extra credit based on scores so if the highest grade was 88 she will give 12 extra points if you complete the test corrections
It is clear that Dr. Bullock loves cell biology and loves teaching it. She is a wonderful lecturer and I really enjoyed her class.
Dr. Bullock is AWESOME!!! I would recommend taking her for any class you can. She knows so much and does an amazing job at explaining things. She also really cares about her students and really works to get to know you. She's one of the best professors I've ever had.
Nicest professor but she cannot teach. Her lectures are boring and she talks way too much. Not very engaging and will watch over your shoulder at notes. Her exams sometimes asked too much detail but were otherwise manageable. Didn't require textbook. Shes a solid option for the course but I'm sure there are better. Don't expect to gain from lecture
Dr. Bullock's class wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. There was a lot of busy work that was time-consuming and her lectures were dry and boring. The busy work was mostly graded by completion thankfully, but her tests were kind of hard and she asked some things that we never went over in class. Not an easy A
DO NOT TAKE IN THE SUMMER. Does not drop exams and its a lot of information to take in for the weekly exams. Study guide is not much help either.
I took this prof. Summer one online cell biology class. I felt that that class moved very quickly, due to the fact that it is a summer 5 week class. I typically had one piece of homework a night and the time it took me ranged from 30 minutes to an hour. Tests are pretty difficult, 50 questions with lockdown browser.
The professor is pretty average. Lectures are prerecorded online. If you want to get an A in this class over the summer it has to be your LIFE. Treated it like a full time job and that's how I made the A. Insane amount of memorization and some exam topics are not in the lecture or textbook. Take it if you have to, but be ready to put in the work.
I really liked MRS. BULLOCK she did tell you extra things to know for exams. But it just seems like the exams were set up to trick you with 50 questions. She would say certain things you won't need to remember on the test but they ended up being on the exam. You really need to attend class and study hard if you want an A or B. She is very caring.
very passionate teacher, but tests are very tricky like they're made for you to fail, with very small and sometimes irrelevant details posing as questions. you need to absorb everything in the textbook and her slides to get an A in her class. i wouldn't recommend taking any other difficult classes if you are taking this class with her.
Don't worry, Bullock's inability to concisely summarize material in lectures is coupled with her insanely detailed and nightmare inducing exams. This would be less annoying if her exams were based on the textbook, but they're not- and they're also nothing like the homework assignments. Avoid.
Take her class if you're a good tester. Outside of this class she is an incredible resource and person, and she's incredibly kind. Unfortunately, the tests are effectively 50 trick questions and there is no way to get extra credit or test corrections for her class,. If you're going try this class under her, only use the PPTs and go to lectures.
She's friendly and approachable, but not an effective teacher. The course relied heavily on lectures, and the exams were based on her PowerPoint presentations. The chapter outlined notes she provided were essential for my success.
