o.k.... there is a lot of info for this class and the lab tests can be brutal but ms. choens is REALLY helpful. look out for the final!
Warning Extensive Notetaking, bring a laptop if you can. This course is 100%memorization,lecture tests are bad,lab tests are insufferable. She will show a picture once, and have questions about it on the test. She needs to provide notes, and pictures online.

Better have good memory for her class, test are hard finals a pain...and your hand cramps from the excessive note taking!
She's a good teacher... She's not hard at all and, she's helpful. She gives u answers to the review & all her Q's for the test come off of her review. The Lab tests can be hard, but if u study, you'll be fine! I'd recommend her.. as long as u study the review you'll do fine and the final is all Voc!
I thought Geo could be boring and that was my attitude going to her class. But maybe during next summer I may go sight seeing the places she has taught.
The first week she tells you everything is on Blackboard. That is your cue to go print it,Including the rocks & mineral flashcards. Problem is,only a small handful of students listened. There was another instructor taking the class who had extra copies of the notes for those too lazy to do it.
she is a very sweet lady. her class is easy - she practically does everything but take the test for you. if you think this class is hard you should probably look for a job that does not require schooling.
She is a really nice lady. She gives you extra credit opportunities, and her reviews are pretty much = to the tests. If you put enough effort in it, you will get an A. If you don't study, then you won't do very well. I can't wait to take her other Geology course next semester.
She is so nice. I thought I was going to hate geo. but she made it really interesting. She practically gives you everything you need. Everything on the test comes straight from the reviews. Study carefully and you are guaranteed an A! I mean, college shouldn't be that easy! :^)
very simple. study the reviews and pass all lectures. i didn't study for any of the labs and i managed to pass b/c of my lectures. don't know if you want to try it youself.
super nice lady. makes a tough course very simple. if you can't pass this class you need to be tested for a pulse or super low iq
Pro Geologist & Educator. Very supportive and helpfull. Tough courses, much memory work. Cohens has it well layed out and works hard. She is using tec in a school that is tec asleep. You will need to study to pass; not a sleeper.
This teacher GIVES you everything you need to know for your tests!! She really wants evrybody to pass.. you can tell! you have to memorize a lot of stuff..its boring but super easy!!!!
great teacher
Great teacher! Took her for Phy n taken her for Hist. now.. really easy as long as u study the reviews for lec n go to lab everyday you should be fine! She tells u everything u need to know, so its up to you after that. Alot more to memorize in Hist but easy if u study it! Would recommend her to anyone!
She's making it where you have to go to class now because the reviews don't cover everything on the test. Physical was an easy A, Historical-easy B, attainable A, but be prepared to study lots of fossils, maps, and pictures. Great teacher, super nice and knows geology inside and out and makes it interesting. I would recommend her to anyone.
I loved this teacher and well definitely miss her class! Didnd't go into the class expecting to get anythng out of it, but Mrs. Choens made it interesting. Took her for Physical and Historical- Phys. is fairly easy, Hist. is more studying and memorization. GO TO LECTURE AND LAB, study her reviews, and you will be fine.
For this being a science credit, it is def. worth taking instead of Pysics & Chemistry. Psysical was interesting w/the rocks. Historical is more remembering fossils & time periods..a bit challenging. Both classes are passable. You can get away w/not attending lecture in Pysical, but not so much in Historical. Go to the labs & get extra pts. on test
OMG I can not say enough good things about her. She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. SHe makes it fun to be in class. Definately take her for a class.. ;)
OMG! i really enjoy this class, and she is really nice, she explains so good the material, i mean shes awsome!!! and her lecture test are soo easy, if you do the review youll make an A on the test and for lab test just study rocks/fossils and thats it, youll will do maping but is much easier that the physical maping. I HIGHLY RECOMEND HER, TAKE HER
Very helful teacher. She really wants to make sure you understand. Lots of memorization though. Make notecards and you'll do fine. Also make sure you go to class. Test are right from the notes almost exactly!
Well..Her class was super easy all you have to do is study the reviews and go to class...and you will make and easy A but for some reason to me she seemed like she was lazy and not very interesting.. She kinda assumed that you should already know the material...
I loved this teacher! She is very sweet and helpful. The reviews are very similar to the test questions. She makes geology interesting and fun. You don't need the book because she leaves the pages in the library at the reserve desk for you to copy. I would highly recommend this professor!!
I loved her, she was great! you just follow the review sheet and go to class. She does make class interesting, i like rocks now!! She is a super cool and sweet teacher and really does care. Take her, you will take all of your Geos with her and understand the material and not hate the class.
Choens tries to help. This class is not a blowoff, study study study. Notecards are best. The tests are not given to you though....its a review, deffinately not an answer sheet. Classes are mandatory, she takes roll in lecture.
I wouldn't recommend taking her class. I had Mrs. Higginbotham for Physical and loved her, but her class was full so I took Choens. Big difference.. Choens can be very moody and isn't real helpful. If you have to take Geology, take Higginbotham.
Great teacher!!! Alot of memorization but other than that the class was a easy A. You will have to study and my suggestion is to make alot of flashcards.
Took summer class, alot of study but her test come right from her review, and she gives the anwsers to the review it couldnt be easier! In lab she makes pratice test if u dont do its ur own fault
She is a wonderful teacher even though Geology is pretty much memorizing and not being lazy a intermediate kid can make an a in her class she is very helpful and if you need to miss a test day she would let you retake her test she is awesome
I'm struggling to make a b, and i'm an all a&b student. She's usually unorganized and puts things that she expects you to print online the night before class. Also very unwilling to help, and talks to students like they should know everything about geology already.
This is the easiest A! i took her during the same, yes your going to study but who does not study in a 5 week course. she gives you reviews and the anwsers! the review is the test couldnt be easier!
took her for physical geology. class is tough. its a lot of memorizing and attention to detail. great class for visual learners. attendance isnt required and lecture is long and slow.
Took her for Historical Geology and the lectures are long (fill in the blank) and boring. Although she gives you a sheet with answers you must read the text book to understand the material to pass her test. Also, she isn't helpful and is often moody. Must go to SI for help because she will not explain anything.
I thought the class was somewhat hard, she expects you to know stuff already, she didn't help me much, but I managed to get a B with the extra credit.. I never used my book. There are many tests and a lotta notes so if you attend to class and study you should pass.
I had never taken anything related to geol before, but I passed with a high B- during a summer! She gives 2 extra credits (one is 10pts added directly to your final). She also replaces your lowest grade with your final. I had resigned myself to a C, but all this on the grading saved me! You still have to study, but she gives you the material.
Hard class. Struggling to keep a B. You have to study a lot and do not miss lab. And it's true, she does act as if she expects you to know everything already. Science is my weakness and I struggled a lot and when I asked for help she seemed annoyed that I didn't certain things. I went to the SI for help.
good teacher! she really loves geology. very enthusiastic and helpful if you have any questions. her tests were pretty easy too! all you have to do is take the notes from her powerpoints and bam! you're sure to get an A or a B in that class. overall pretty easy class.
Easy class given you actually show up and put for the effort. Lecture is just fill in the blank and if you study that then you'll for sure pass lecture tests. Lab is way more relaxed and chill. Lab tests are semi difficult but study and you'll be fine. Good teacher but does expect you to know the material already. Isn't helpful at times.
she's a good teacher. i had her for geology 1403 as well and i found that historical was a bit harder. but if you attend lab and study the review then you'll do fine.
by far the worst teacher i have had. i took physical geology with a different teacher and pass with almost a 100. i am struggling with mrs. choens. she just reads off her powerpoints and sits at a table in lab. if you ask her any questions she either disregards the question or makes you feel like an idiot for asking it.. would NOT reccommend her!!
i would not reccommend this teacher to anyone.. teaches the class like youre a geology major and expects you to already know geology off the top of your head prior to class.. doesnt help during lab. she tells you to turn in the worksheet and she will tell you if you are right or wrong.. she also plays favorites
not the hardest teacher i've ever had, but def not the best. she is pretty rude in lab if you don't understand to the point your scared to ask questions, one on one she will help you but to the class is rude. expects you to go to tutoring if your doing poorly,i couldn't because i work full time, and she told me that i didn't care enough...dont take
This class is easy. Its a tad bit time consuming but not hard at all! I never had to buy the book because she has notes you use on blackboard and there is a book on reserve at the library. You have to go to class in order to understand but it is hard to fail this class.
Understand where people are coming from about her attitude but really its she's not bad. I just took her & she provides all notes on power point & for the test review so you know what to study for. 8 tests total. Time consuming. I passed with a A. Extra credit available. Need lab book only. The other one you would only need for pictures.
I took this class in the summer. She is easy if you fill out her outlines and do the reviews. The reviews come from the outlines. Have a positive attitude and show some tpye of interest in learning you should have no problem making an "A" in the class.
YEAH! agreed, shes a crazy *****!! Desks set up weird ways, you sit shoulder to shoulder, she has a seating chart, which must be followed. In class and lab, she makes you sit with an empty row in front of you, just for your phone! I feel like i went back to highschool...I wouldnt recommend her at all! She has a sour attitude and is intimidating
She has a bad attitude with you right off the bat, she never leaves her desk or tries to explain things in detail much less at all. Shes very useless but gives you all the notes to use on the test. Someone in the class used ink on one of their papers and she instantly gave him a zero, after spending all class on it. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
She's not that bad, she definitely tries to help :)
She's very strict certainly in the beginning. No cell phones or computiers in class. Seating charts enforced and on test day there is assighned seating. However, the class iS SO EASY! Her test are just like the review! She gives plenty of opertunities for extra credit and if you take the time to know her she's not too bad.
Class is easy. Reviews are fill in the blank which you fill in lecture. Study the reviews and you will make a A. She is awesome!!!
Enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Can not express how simple she makes her class. Lecture notes are on Blackboard, print them out and fill in the blank during lecture and you're golden on Lecture exams. Lab tests can be challenging due to material but she posts flashcards and slides on BB to alleviate difficulty. Highly Recommended!
shes awesome! i HATE any science class but i took her summer class and survived! yes, you do have to study but her test are straight from the review. she also gives so much chances for extra credit! def recommend her
Bring your notes to class, fill in the blanks, make note cards, get an A. Excellent professor, knowledgeable in the subject matter and ready to help.
She was great at the beginning but then started to falsely accuse my lab table of cheating. Tried to talk to her about it and she blew all of us off. Intentionally failed me.
I loved Geology before taking her. She is not passionate and it shows. No laptops allowed. Her notes do not make sense but she expects you to only use her notes.
make note cards, and study and you will be fine. Her exams are from the notes and power points. Pretty easy. She can come across as strict and mean at times, but get to know her and she's pretty nice.
Very easy class. She tells you exactly what you will need to know for the test. Gives a lot of extra stuff to help study for the lab tests and offers plenty of extra credit.
Very easy class to get an A in. Notes are written out for you with fill in the blanks that are filled out in class. She tells you exactly what questions will be on the test right out of your notes. Lab can be tough and takes a bit of studying but she provides all the tools you need to do very well. Think she is a very nice lady as well.
Notes are provided and her test are the notes she gives(just worded a little different). FLASH CARDS and studying are the keys to success in this class!!! and she has awesome extra credit opportunities ... Super easy class, I totally recommend her.
I am halfway through the semester and I hate it. I have had 8 teachers at San jac and this is the only teacher I haven't liked. Boring lectures, no review, uses outline for note, gives you an assignment and expects you to know. She patronizes you for not knowing geology as if it's gods gift to science and is not helpful at all. DON'T TAKE HER.
I don't understand these negative comments. She gives you notes, all you have to do is fill in the blanks from the power points. Very interesting subject. Every test as in opportunity for bonus. She highlights the questions that will be on the test. Just study for lab and you'll pass easily. Only need lab book not lecture.
Prof. Choens Hist Geology class is interesting & she gives opportunities for extra credit. Must attend lab and lecture or you could easily get behind. Take notes, make notecards (for extra points and for studying for tests), study and you will make an A. There is a lot of info to learn, but overall not difficult. Don't get textbook, just lab manual
Really helpful, goes over reviews, gives extra credit for note cards and going to the museum. Go to class and lab, interesting and you will pass
This was a hybrid class- online lecture and in-person lab. She gives you exactly what you need to know and tells you what not to study so you can do well on exams, she gives extra credit or will extend deadlines and the reviews are exactly like the tests. She's really nice and easy to work with. Come to class and do your part.
Physical Geology was a breeze, she tells you exactly what is going to be on the exam, and has worksheets for you to fill out during lecture that note the information that will be on the exams. No math involved. Easiest science class I've ever taken.
I took physical geology and will be taking historical next semester with Sharon and she was a really good teacher. I made an A in the class which I was very surprised because I have never made an A in a science class in college. She tells you exactly what will be on the test as long as you study you will pass.
Gives fill-in-the-blank lecture notes w/ notecard symbol for points to remember for test! Lab tests are definitely harder than lecture, so make sure to use all the review materials she gives you. Also, before lecture tests, she will give an opportunity for extra credit but you have to pay attention to when it will be! Textbook NOT req'd Lab book IS
This is the worst class I've taken at San jac. I came in interested and now I hate geology and it irks me to see any rocks now. She expects you to know everything. She does not explain things you don't understand (ridiculing you at times). I was confused with something and she never explained it to me even when I asked. Do not take her.
HATE, HATE, HATE, HER CLASS! Boring professor, never ever had I had a professor as bad as her. She's rude, won't help, and has a horrible monotone voice. When students ask questions she makes you feel stupid and does not answer your questions at all. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT A GOOD SEMESTER!
I agree with everyone that she can be rude, but she seems to deal with lots kids who don't care and don't put any effort in. When she sees that you actually care, and do your work, she's very nice to you. As long as you do the work, it's an easy class. I made an A.
This professor should not be teaching this course anymore. she is by far the worst teacher i ever had. shes rude likes to put you on blast & also makes you feel like a dumb for asking any questions. she doesn't teach at all! yet expects for you to learn on your own , bunch of homework and quizzes. LIKE SERIOUSLY DON'T TAKE HER. NOT FULL ONLINE!!!
This was for GEOL 1303. Professor Choens is a little all over the place but I would take her again. She can be tuff at times but she will help you, I didn't read the book but the lab book is a must and so is Mastering Geology. She gives a lot of work and put stuff on BB last minute so watch out, extra credit is given a lot also. Just study.
This class can be easy and hard. You are basically teaching yourself. If you need guidance and extra help, she will just say "Go to a tutor". Choose another professor.
Easy A, just study before the exams and you will pass. Come to class and take notes.
Really enjoyed this professor, if you try she helps a lot, but if you don't try she will chase you down to make sure you pass! Lots of studying and notes, but they're fill in the blanks.
4 lecture tests and 3 lab tests. she gives reviews from her "fill in the blank" notes. i made note cards and ive never made below a 90 on any of her tests. HAVE to have the lab book or youll lose lab points. LOTS of bonus points for easy stuff like notecards and all your notes. i took her 2 semesters in a row because of how easy this professor is
Professor Choens is pretty much an easy A if you are willing to put in the work that she requires. I took her for Geology 1303 and made a B but this class was online lecture and F2F for lab (3 hours, once a week). I decided I wanted to take her again but this time it was F2F for lecture and lab. I completely RECOMMEND F2F for both of these. Easy A!
by far the worst class. I like geology and wanted to try it out rather than biology but the way she gives work and not even really explaining it to the class ( go see a tutor she stated ). I really hate I wasted my time even trying to continue to finish it off.
Pretty chill professor. I slacked off a lot, but I could of made an A lol geology is not hard just had to study. She was very understanding with dual credit, and very understanding with my whole military process as well. Awesome professor. LIKE ANY OTHER COLLEGE COURSE YOU HAVE TO STUDY DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IN THE WORK.
I loved Professor Choens. She gave several extra credit opportunities and was very helpful in lab. I would take her again! We had 3 lab exams and 3 lecture. We also had a final. Lecture exams are from the review. Lab exams were all multiple choice!
******IMPORTANT****** 3.8 GPA RUINED***** Professor Choens is by far the WORST professor. She doesn't explain anything, this is an easy class but she doesn't let you know the due dates. Also we have to go get our classwork stamped and that is always the worst because instead of helping you, she laughs at you and tells you rudely that you're wrong .
Professor sharon was okay, the class was wasy I took both the lab and lecture online but had to take the lab in class, all her lab exams are multiple choice, she gives a lot of papers to do in class from the lab book. Lecture test are a bit hard if you dont study. Weekly assignments count more than test so thats what I liked.
Awful, too much amount of work to cover with the lecture exam. Lab exam is ok but yet lab class is just so boring and hard. She wont let you get a pass if you dont do it in her way. Just enroll another Prog
Do not recommend taking this professor. Lecture was online & was super time consuming & workload was every heavy. Due dates on Sun, W & Fri. Exams open at 7 on Sun to Monday 11:59. Lab work wasnt too bad. stamps papers to give you credit for doing work but cannot be late. Miss class u miss a lot of work. Can be rude & has attitude. Doesn't teach
Dont take her as a mini course. Every week a weekly assignment, Lab and an exam. Last week you will have regular assignments, exam and a final. Save her power points you will not have them to study for the final. She closes each section.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. I took this class online and she made it difficult to understand. Her lab questions were very broad so you didn't really understand what she was talking about. When emailing her to ask she would respond in a timely manner, but would be very petty. Honestly, just don't take her class.
Took for a 10-week summer session (online), along with corresponding lab (online). Course calendar had all assignments/due dates clearly outlined. Provided fill-in the blank chapter reviews for use during exams. Answered emails inn a timely manner concerning assignment questions. Made Earth Science very interesting. Do your work and will pass.
Took a hybrid. The lecture(online) has nothing to do with lab(in person). Sits behind the desk entire time. Does NOT help. Expects you to just know rocks w/o even teaching you. Talks to you like you are stupid. Would NOT recommend. Overloads you with class work/homework/exams all at the same time.
Honestly worst teacher at San Jac hands down! If you ask for help, you will get laughed at. She will also try to say you are cheating when you aren't & she will make sure the whole class knows that she thinks your cheating. Also she won't like you if you ask questions because that would mean she has to do her real job. Just don't take her!
Prof. Choens has a bad reputation around campus. She isn't a bad professor. She just doesn't put up with complaints and slackers. Do the work on time, read, study, prepare, ask questions, you will get an A. Put little to no effort in, Quizlet user, don't study, this is not the class for you. Overall, I enjoyed her and learning about geology.
She is the tuff professor i have ever seen in my life my last semester where i need to drop class in middle of semester coz she give 20 question then 15 minute to do it is like a pressure a lot in short time
Had a lot of things due during the week disregarding you're taking other classes. Class is kind of easy if you listen to instructions and do the reviews for each test. Other than the class having a lot of work it's manageable.
