Really tries to make gov fun!
Online hw was completion. Attendance not mandatory but she gives questions that will be on tests. 4 exams, equal weight, online at home, most answers online or in book. No class on exam days, no final. Overpowered extra credit. Good professor, easy class but boring unless you really like government and current event discussions.
Mrs. Davis is a confusing lecturer. Zoning out during her class is inevitable. The learnsmart assignments are easy and half her test questions are easily found on quizlet. she gives out a few test questions randomly in class and extra credit so attendance is highly recommended. she gives out extra credit for tests too, but grades it hard.
Took for my first part of POLS. Good class, make sure you go to class to get her gimme questions. They will pop out on the exams. Online learns marts and her exams are online. Her lectures were good, but its in the book. Gives a lot of extra credit, which is good if you get a low grade on an exam. She has a very kind attitude, wished I participated
I only attended class the first few weeks and the last couple days. The whole class is basically on Quizlet besides the "gimme" questions which varied from "how many pairs of shoes she had" to "which president advocated religion." Overall easy and sweet woman but the class was pretty boring and unimportant to me. Would take again.
Lectures are boring. Test are easy only if you go to class and take notes. Textbook is mandatory for learnsmarts
I loved going to class just because I like looking at her. She's beautiful.
Mrs. Davis is smart and has a very cool approach to government. She uses most of her class time discussing with everyone about different opinions on what is going on in the world. Test reviews are given and extra credit is always available!
I hate government but she made it interesting. She uses TED talks and other videos to make her point.
This class is an Easy A.
You have to attend class! She gives gimmees that are on the exams! And the syllabus can change but tests are easy!
Lots of discussion. Gave us a mulligan on the first paper! Awesome! Take this woman she is helpful and understanding!
Attendance is not mandatory, but she gives "gimme questions" that have the potential to be on exams (usually 5) and extra credit assignments (which are not posted online). Exams are extremely difficult, but are online exams that can be taken at home. Homework is McGraw-Hill graded on completion. Would definitely take again.
Worst poli sci professor I've ever had. She is lazy, disorganized, there is no presentation, she goes off topic, doesn't even teach from the book really. Her class seems easy, then you get to the test and questions are unclear, so you end up making a bad grade. I've yet to encounter anyone who has anything good to say about her. Just don't.
Very easy class. Helpful professor. 2 tests which are online. Long term paper over your choice of policy, however it is broken into 3 sections which makes it easier to do. Take notes and get an A.
Great class! Loved the discussion, which was a lot of the class. Gave us a "mulligan" (redo) on the first paper and the midterm! She gives great feedback. You are expected to read and study the book and its not discussed in class but on exams.
Does a good job making govt interesting. She is obviously passionate about it! Gives lots of EC! BE IN CLASS you will pass!
Spring semester was the first time she teach this course. Long paper, but do-able because it's graded in parts. No visuals aids during lectures, they were mainly class discussions. Mid-term and Final, need to read book to pass! One group presentation. She took feedback from our class, so I believe she will upgrade her teaching style next semester
This was her first semester teaching the 3318 class. Very disorganized, but she was a fair grader. No review for the exam. 3 papers (one 6-8 pg paper, one 8-10 paper and a final 20 pg. paper, which you get to combine the first two papers). Midterm is MC + SA + Essay, final was all SA + Essay. You absolutely have to read the book and take notes.
weekly Chapter HWs(easy),4 tests ;online (answers are on quizlet), sometimes grading is off from tests so schedule an appt. to gain your points. Random tests questions, assignments, extra credit & group projects are given in lecture so attendance is important. very funny, talks a lot, lots of extra credit
Fair grader on the three papers. Gave good feedback and allowed you to resubmit the first paper. Lectures were too rambling. This will probably change, it was her first semester to teach this class. Enjoyed the class overall!
Professor Davis is super funny, all she talks about in class are current events and her lectures are VERY confusing. She states that she is an easy grader to be honest, she really is not. I know it was her first year teaching Intro. to public policy, but I did not really understand the subject. However, she is a very nice professor!
Easiest A. Tests were all online.
I heard it was an easy A and that all her tests are online. However, this wasn't an easy A because her tests come from Ted Talks instead of the material we should be learning. You can't just find these tests online. This was NOT an easy A
Interesting, passionate and sometimes funny! Must be in class because some of the talks are from TED and there are test questions. Am taking her for the second half!
Great class! Lots of discussion about important issues. Prof Davis is funny, and enjoys her subject. You can tell she ikes being there.
Really enjoyed this class! Discussed topics; healthcare, welfare, gun control and education policy. Short reaction papers, mid term and final.
Professor Davis is approachable and funny. She wants you to be politically active in our community. I like how we start class with a discussion of what is going on in our world. As long as you attend the lecture and complete the learn smart assignments, the exams should be a breeze. Not to mention, she gives extra credit.
This class isn't an easy A! I have had a B all semester long! Exams are mostly based on TED videos and some questions can be found in our class notes. The learn smarts are super easy but very long! She gives extra credit and at times she gives in class assignments!
Great class! You must actually attend to pass! Gimmee questions and extra credit! Easy exams online with most questions from the book/learnsmarts! Definitely take this class!
Show up and pass! Learnsmarts once per week buts drops 5 of lowest. Exams are all straight from the book. gimmee questions and extra credit!
Prof. Davis loves for students to participate in class. Lots of discussion! Ted talks were interesting and added to the discussion of topics in class! Tests are easy and straight from the book! EC and Gimmees!
tons of extra credit. wants you to pass. easy A
Curent events, and interesting policy discussions! Professor Davis is passionate about teaching. Four out of five reaction two page papers graded, mid-term and final.
VERY easy A. 80% of the grade is four tests, taken online in Blackboard and class is canceled on these days so you don't forget -- DO NOT FORGET. The rest is learnsmarts and a few in-class assignments that require minimal effort beyond paying attention. I will say that if you're a politics enthusiast, maybe try a prof who's more enthusiastic.
The exams are all taken online - she also has random questions she makes up during class that goes into the exam so be sure to attend her classes. The rest of assignments consists of Learn-smarts and in-class. She does try to make the class exciting even though it's boring and she encourages discussions on real-life events.
This class was not an easy A. She gave 4 exams. The first one was easy and most on quizlet. The 2nd and 3rd exam had 80 percent of the questions online and the rest were like TED talks or from the textbook. The 4th exam is what helped everyone's grade. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. The amount of extra credit you do, will determine if you get a B,B+,A-,A.
Professor Davis is a pretty dry lecturer for the most point, although she's a nice person. Tons of extra credit. She didn't make the material "stick" to me in anyway. However, all her tests are online for two days and you can look up the material. The online textbook is mandatory. Attend to get the "gimme "questions.
Davis is an incredibly easy grader. If you can write a halfway decent paper you should have no problem making at least a B in the course. Most of the class time is spent on discussing current events with minimal powerpoint lecture. The only grades in class are papers. She is vague on papers, but fairly ok with any topic or style, so no big deal.
Super easy A if you do your work and come to class! Gives a lot of extra credit and is super hilarious. I loved Sharon Davis and would totally take her class again!
Professor Davis was alright. We spent a lot of time talking about random stuff. She takes attendance sometimes, but all important announcements were said in class. 4 small papers, 1 8-page paper, midterm, and a final. She is an easy grader. She's just unorganized and you can tell throughout the class. She compensates w/ extending deadlines & EC.
Exams are online, but not so relevant to the course. She also grades the papers vaguely. I don't know how she is teaching in this university. She has very little knowledge of political science data. She either has to go back to school or teach just 1000-2000 courses.
25% of your grade comes from LearnSmart assignments which are completed online (each lesson has 50-100 questions with relevant links to the online textbook, which you are REQUIRED to buy for $100+). The rest of your grade comes from online exams. She shows a lot of videos. Going to class matters because of extra credit announcements. She's fun. :)
Took POLS 1337 in a winter mini so attendance was key. If you want to get an A in her class make sure you show up for every class and try not to be late. She usually gives "gimme questions" at the beginning of class for those that showed up on time. Exams were online, easy. Gives extra credit. Easy In class assignments make sure to take computer.
Easiest A, just do your learn smart, go to class and write the answers to the gimme questions. Tests are taken online usually are 50 questions and you have an 1hr and 30mins to take them.
Easy class. Tests were online and most of the questions are on quizlet. Gives gimme questions during lecture so you have to show up to class, but I would go to class like once a week and when I do, I don't pay attention unless she gives gimme questions. Do all the learnsmart assignments. She shows Tedtalks in class which could be on the test.
Super funny and relaxed professor. She makes the class experience so fun. Attend class and just listen to her many discussion happen to those who want to speak. Learnsmarts are the whole class and take home exams online that can be taken anywhere. Super easy A class.
If you can write a halfway decent paper you should have no problem making at least a B in the course. Most of the class time is spent on discussing current events with minimal powerpoint lecture.
I wouldn't recommend taking her class unless you are semi interested in the subject. I would take contractor instead. She is very unorganized in her lectures and it's never clear what will be on the test. She gives "gimme" questions in class but half of them I've never seen on my test. Extra credit is a pain in the ass so not worth doing. dont take
Definately a nice professor, however has horribly difficult exams and long homework assignments. Gave little extra credit. 5 exams, including a final, all of them difficult. Take Contractor.
Great Professor! If you do the work and attend the lectures, you'll pass. she gave us no final/midterm, 4 online 50-question quizzes test-wise, she uses his lectures to make you more politically aware and ties the curriculum to modern-day current events.
Contend does not seem to following order, skips around frequently. Test questions are very difficult / word smithed.
gives random in-class assignments and "gimme questions" that will be on the exam and you won't know the answer unless you were in class. does not really go over material that will be on the exam, just about real world politics. tests are all online and have about 50 questions and must complete learn-smarts. I would say take contractor instead.
Learn smart out the wazoo. Only 10 or so out of the 20 count. Tests are very tricky as the are written by the book maker. The gimme questions are on the test but only about 2 or 3 out of the 25 or 30 she gives you. 1st test is short timer and will be close but the rest are pretty easy on time. KNOW YOUR CURRENT EVENTS. Participation helps, trust me
Great prof, very understanding and funny. The coursekit was as big as a chemistry textbook , thus Dr. Davis assigned a lot of readings and some of the readings were very challenging but with Sharon's knowledge everything was made clear and much more enjoyable. You must attend all classes, do the readings and participation makes a big difference.
Love, love, love to this professor. I was so lucky to take her class. Very nice lady. You have to take her!
Simply the best.
Davis is a really nice person and laid back but the only downside to this class is that the test are very difficult. Even though they're online, they are comprised of mostly random facts and statistics. Barely any of the "gimme questions" are actually put on the test. Even with extra credit it is very hard to get an A in the class. Trust me
test are over random stuff that she doesnt talk about but gives nice curves and has extra credit so i would be easy to make a B. but participation matters and you cant skip class or youll fail. makes you buy a $25 dollar app that is useless and only allow her to gets off topic
BEWARE OF SHARON DAVIS!!! She makes this class unbelievably difficult and she is VERY UNORGANIZED in the course. She does not make clear what will be on the exams (4 exams, 80%) and her lectures make no sense. I am an A student and Political Science is extremely easy, but her version is extremely confusing!! Take VANDANA if you can!
Has in class lectures based off of book's PowerPoint but goes off topic. Attendance isn't mandatory. Has a lot of real world politics discussion. Gives you "gimme" questions in class that'll definitely be on the test. 5 tests that are usually half lecture half textbook. Easy class if you study.
Good teacher but pretty lecture heavy. Her lectures didn't take up the whole class but they were very important. I originally started taking notes just on what the slides said and I didn't do well on the tests. You have to really listen to her lectures. Her tests are fairly challenging but for most of them, you can find a lot of the answers online.
AWESOME! Funny! Discusses real world issues! No topic off limits! She is engaging and really cares about her students! YOU SHOULD TAKE HER!
Class is somewhat stressful, 80% of your grade is composed of 4 online exams. The other 20% is composed of learnsmarts and in class assignments. She offers plenty of chances for extra credit, DO THEM. Attendance is helpful bc she gives gimme questions which will show up on your exams. Make friends in this class (it will help a lot).
This class was great during this crazy election! Lots of discussion and lots of extra credit! Prof Davis works really hard to make the class interesting. Don't really like politics but she made it interesting. I would definitely take her again!!
This class is a rather easy to class to take and Mrs. Davis is very sweet and understanding when it comes to helping you out. My only issue I had was there is not a lot of enforcing of reading your actual textbook but it is nearly required to in order to do well on the tests. There's not a lot of assignments, tests make up a big part of your grade.
Missing class every once in a while isn't too bad however she does give out gimme questions in class, tests are online and aren't too bad, use your resources!;) does give out lots of extra credit which you should take advantage of, do your learn smarts too!!! nice lady as well
This class is as easy as it gets. Homeworks and coursework was fairly easy and clear. Going to class is the key to getting her test "gimme" questions. She would also do games for extra credit and a lot of them.
Do not take if you have a A type personality! Super disorganized and vague with assignments. Schedule on syllabus changes a lot. Tests cover little of material learned from class.
Eh. Her lectures were pretty boring and I can't say I learned much. She gives gimmie questions that will be on the test but maybe 2-3 show up on the exam. Yes, all tests are online but they're kinda tricky, definitely use your resources. She curves the tests (except not the last one) and gives lots of EC.
One of the best professors in UH.
Professor Davis was a kind instructor; she enjoyed class discussion, talking current events, or going more in depth to the topics we learned. One possible flaw of the class was that she was not completely determined on dates or plans which made her seem somewhat unorganized. I did not mind this at all as I still got a good grade, but others might.
She's super easy going and her tests are heaven sent. You'll end up loving her by the end of your first day, just a heads up.
She is a fun professor who really interacts with students during her lectures. Attendance isn't taken but she does give a lot of "gimme questions" during class that will be on the test, which I guess is her way of making sure people go. The tests are online so they're open note, and not too hard. Lots of extra credit, not a big workload.
There is not much to do for this class, mostly learnsmarts and a few tests. Class is not mandatory, I skipped half of them and still ended up with an 89 (she only bumps if it is .5). I did not like class because we did not go over much actual learning material, it was very much all on you to learn.
RIDICULOUSLY easy class. I never went to class, hardly read the textbook except for highlighted parts for the learnsmarts, didn't do any of the extra credit, and ended up with an A. Tests are all online and a lot of it is common sense/knowledge, but many answers are on quizlet if you look them up and you're quick about it. Seriously, take her.
I personally didn't enjoy Krumnow's lectures, but the course itself is easy. I've skipped class a couple times, only skimmed through the textbook right before the test, and still passed. Her tests are online, so you can look at your notes while takin it, and she likes to give 'gimmie' questions, which are answered during classes.
She's a good teacher but spends all class talking about material not on test. A lot of learnsmart modules, test are timed but most questions are in quizlet. Provides a lot of extra credit, and was funny. Class is super boring, but tophat was used for attendance.
People say she's a hard grader but I got an A on both reaction papers. As long as you are informative and use what you learned in class to connect it you should be fine. The most difficult test was the midterm. So go to class take good notes she is fast. The group project is a video project but still easier than the midterm if you have a good group
AWESOME!! I learned so much from this prof. Definitely take her and speak up in class!
There is a textbook that she says you need to but but I got by just fine without it. You really just need to show up and participate to pass. She loves if you know what you are talking about. She is definitely a democrat and it definitely effects the way she teaches the class. Very nice lady.
Class is easy, but she is not a good professor. Lecture is boring and it seems like she reads from a text the whole time. She seems lazy and uninterested. Online exams w/ lockdown browser and 90% based on the textbook. Have notes from textbook when taking the exams. She does top hat and in-class assignments, but you don't need lecture for exams.
If you are an organized person who likes to have class assignments and due dates given during the first week of class, do NOT take her. Her blackboard page will give you anxiety just clicking on it.
SUPER easy class. All tests are online and can be searched on google or quizlet. Your grade consists of 5 exams, online assignments (unlimited attempts, so you can keep guessing until you make a 100) and TopHat participation. Going to class isnt mandatory but i would go because she gives extra credit opportunities which are announced during class
Attendance isn't mandatory, but sometimes she using Tophat to ask questions to see who showed up to class. Wrap it up quizzes are due before every test, but you get multiple tries. All tests are online, 50% can be searched online. Have very few in class assignments, but they are super easy. Gives extra credit for those who come to class.
Professor Davis is my favorite professor at UH period. She is intelligent, kind, and her class is always fun and interesting. I'm very lucky to have the honor of being in class twice!
I love this professor! Notice how all the bad reviews are from those who took POLS 1336 or 1337. Took her for 3368 and 1336 and I loved her courses.
She has a good heart and is cool, but her class is a waste of time. If you want an easy A, take it, but if you want to actually learn something, you won't unless you take it into your own hands. Class lecture is unstructured and a waste of time, she doesn't even lecture.
I absolutely do not like this class, nor do I like the professor. She is the worst professor I've had at UH, and unless you want to waste your time coming to class, I would not take her. She lectures on material not even covered on exams, shows videos unrelated to political science, and reads powerpoints in class because she doesn't know material.
Prof. Davis is a great professor. Her teaching style is consistent with how political science is taught, lectures are based on current events and students are expected to take notes at home. Her lectures usually include videos and lots of interaction, and its refreshing to see in class. She also offers multiple extra credit opportunities.
Theres 5 tests onine, based off her lectures and videos. She expects you to read and take notes. Test questions are a bit random and she most of the time doesn't talk about them. Tests are hard, yeah you can google but you won't find them. She spends more time talking about whats going on in the world that day more than she teaches.
She has 5 tests that are weighted evenly. Online, but difficult. If you read the text and pay attention in lectures than you will get 85+ and she gives lots of extra credit. Great teacher overall, nice, straightforward and is willing to work with you. Have to read if you want an A
All the tests are online, and are hard. You won't learn much pertaining to the exam, but the discussions are always interesting. Most test questions are online.
I don't mind writing papers nor do i mind tests or projects but this professor is so unbelievably unorganized and it drove me crazy. Lectures consist of talking about current issues and watching TED videos, i have more intelligent conversations with friends that we had in class. If this is your last option, then just be careful.
The class consists of watching Ted Talks and having class discussions. My only complaint is that she's very unorganized and vague with her assignments. I would start on an assignment completely confused as to what exactly she wants me to do. But in the end it doesn't matter because she'll give you an A anyway. Easy class and she's very friendly.
Great discussion in class! Caring professor and extremely knowledgeable about politics. If you are interested in what is going on in govt take her.
Very smart and caring lady! Had prof davis for 3 classes and she is amazing! Uses current events, lecture and TED talks to bring subject to life. Makes you feel like your opinions matter.
She is all over the place, she will tell you all these things on the tests and then they are not on the tests... but the tests are online so it does not matter. She offered a lot of extra credit so I did the majority of them but then she changed them to assignments so I never got extra points. There is tophat questions in class but I never did them
She's a nice person, but she doesn't really lecture on much having to do with the exams. I found myself getting frustrated in class frequently because of that, but I kept having to go because of random tophat in class assignments. She mostly likes to talk about current events and watch Ted Talks.
She is a nice person but she gives exams on material not covered in class. Her lectures mostly consist of current events discussions, TED talks and her reading off of a powerpoint. She gives 5 exams, all online and half the questions can be googled. Gives plenty of extra credit opportunity. She uses Tophat to see who shows up and who doesn't.
This professor, as many have said, is not organized what-so-ever. She wings just about everything and does not follow her own syllabus. She doesn't teach us anything in class, she just talks about current issues which are not on our exams. We are left to figure out what is on our exams. Horrible teaching style, get it together woman.
We watched videos (mostly TED talks) during class that were really important for the exams, which were all online. There were a lot of extra credit opportunities, but the lectures often had little to do with what was going to be on the exams.
I love her, and she is such a good teacher. Very caring and a kind soul. Grading is fair and the class is awesome!
She is a sweet and caring lady however she is extremely disorganized. That is what gave me anxiety. Class is discussion based and watching Ted talks. 2 two page papers, the third one is optional. A group project and a take home midterm and final.
A funny sarcastic. She knows her stuff and is very passionate. She emphasizes whats important, but the tests were on the more difficult side.
boring lectures. gives lots of extra credit opportunities and quizzes are online at home. Tests are in class, not too difficult if you pay attention. i recommend taking POLS online
I honestly hated this class. I didn't learn a thing, and the prof is rude. If you disagree with her (on OPINION questions) she counts it wrong. Her tests are all about the textbook material that she doesn't even get through in class because she gets off topic for the first 30 minutes of class. Her tests are hard, and stupid. Wouldn't recommend.
The tests are absolutely a nightmare, all online, however some tests had question from chapters we hadn't even talked about. The quizzes are easy 100s, you get unlimited tries. There is a lot of extra credit which helps you so much. Do your self a favor and take another professor. This will be a difficult A.
She is really nice. At the beginning of class we talked about current events. She is honest about her stance on political issues. Her lectures are really interesting. She would include TED Talks or other videos into her lectures. The exams were online and she would cancel class the day of the exams so you had time to do them at home that day.
Lectures consist of Tedtalks and current events, which is perfectly educational and interesting... until you get tested on things that are anything BUT those learned in class. Tests are extremely specific, asking about percentages, etc. If you're an A student and want to keep your GPA, DO NOT TAKE HER.
DO NOT TAKE HER. I took this class during the winter mini-session & it only consisted of 3 exams, equally weighed. No reviews, no helpful powerpoints, nothing to give you an indication as to what might be on the exam. she stated on the syllabus that she gives extra credit & does not bump grades but NO EXTRA CREDIT op & she refused to bump my grade
Took this class for gen ed credit. I am a full ride scholarship student, top of the freshman class in my college, and this class is causing me more stress than anything I've taken recently. The tests are impossible and are detailed oriented. She does not give reviews and tells wrong information to study. Extremely hard. Do not take this class.
The professor is nice, and seems to know what she's talking about, but she doesn't feel too organized. There are a lot of times when she'll go off and talk about items that aren't up on the screen (she uses a slide show via TopHat.) I once had an excused absence from the University, and she didn't fix my absence. Her tests are also a nightmate.
Davis is a nice person and passionate about the subject she teaches but the issue with her is that she is very disorganized, her lectures aren't super helpful, and the exams have very specific questions that make them artificially more difficult.
I took this class in person and it is the worst class by far that Ive ever taken. Her lectures arent helpful for exams. Shes had to curve every exam weve taken because so many have failed and so many students have dropped the class because they were failing every exam. Shes passionate about politics but I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Sharon Davis is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She is smart-mouthed, disrespectful to her students and completely disorganized. Due to her paranoia of cheaters, she makes the tests incredibly difficult with minuscule details from Ted talks, stuff not mentioned in class OR the textbook.
This class was one of the most difficult classes I have ever taken. I did not learn anything from lectures and went home to read the book and teach myself the material. I consider myself a very good student that does very well on tests, as in A's and rarely high B's. This was the first class that no matter how long or hard I studied, DID NOT HELP!
She is terrible. Her lectures have nothing to do with the test. She says she doesn't even know what's going to be on the test because there is a test pool of 300 questions. All of this coupled with the fact that test is a majority of your grade, you're screwed. i someone how managed to get an A, but it wasn't easy. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Took it ONLINE. Best choice. All you gotta do is the textbook quizzes which are due every month. Graded on four tests taken through lockdown browser. No videos, no lectures, easy pass if you hate political science like me!
Davis is a professor that gets some and misses others. Her class is okay, passing is possible but exams are VERY randomized so studying as much as possible is recommended (even though its not exciting).
If you can work independently, this class is great. Grades consisted Cengage quizzes and 4 tests. She does supply extra credit in the form of surveys. She rarely responded to emails, and if she did, she would not really answer what you were asking. No reviews for tests that were over extremely detailed information. Tests taken on lockdown browser.
Honestly, she is not horrible - she ended up curving exams almost every time. However, I do not recommend her. If you can take this class online or at HCC, you would be better off. Class mainly consisted of political ted talks and random lectures. Overall, it was a bit unorganized of a class.
Her teaching methods aren't the best. We watched Ted talks in almost every class and just take notes. Extra credits are like 3 pages and spends the beginning of class talking about current events that won't even be a part of the exams. Almost everyone would do bad on exams due to a lack of information from lectures.
This class only consists of monthly Cengage quizzes based off the reading (which you can easily find the quizlets to), 3 exams, and a final exam. You should easily get an A if you read the assigned chapters & look over the quizzes. Lectures consist of Ted talks and current events. MindTap for attendance, but she doesnt always take it.
I took this class online for a full semester, and it was fairly easy. It had 4 multiple choice exams, mind tap quizzes, & random assignments. Only 10 of the quizzes & assignments would count for your grade. I never read anything for this class. The only thing is that everything is not explained well enough and is confusing like the assignments!
Classwork was pretty easy and TA replied quick to emails. The only thing was that for an online class, everything should've been a bit more detailed! The assignments never had enough detail of what to do and the calendar was a mess to read. Despite little annoying stuff, easy A. Need cengage purchase for class.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! i repeat.... DO NOT TAKE THIS LADY!!!!! she is SO disorganized and confusing assgns. won't communicate with you. she gives random assgns throughout the semester.. like what..? there is syllabus and a calendar for a reason, tell us when things are due early (there are not pop quizzes, whole projects within days of notice).
This course was made difficult due to her confusing the class and being unclear on what was on the tests while simultaneously blaming us for not knowing or not studying correctly. She seemingly couldn't admit to making a mistake which made it difficult to email her about issues we experienced on the tests. The lectures/didn't cover much material.
This professor is one of the worst I have ever taken, lecture has nothing to do with tests. Tests tend to have questions that aren't on book, so you must be able to read the book in advance before taking the test because if you read it a day before you won't finish and will fail the test.
Graded by 3 tests, final, and 10 randomly chosen online activities from the textbook (you have more than 10 weekly-ish online assignment but 10 is chosen to be graded for) Also gave easy extra credit as long as you attempted it, mainly readings with small short answers. Pretty easy class, but don't take her if you expect to really learn anything
Lectures have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with tests. Spends the first 30 minutes of class talking about current events that are not even on the exam. Lectures for 30 minutes (goes off-topic WAY too much) and lets us out after an hour (sometimes 45 min) even though the class is supposedly 1 hour and a half. One of the worst teachers I've ever had.
Terrible Teacher. You are graded on 4 tests, and 10 randomly chosen homework that can be assigned in class or outside of class. All PowerPoints are vague, the lectures are useless, class is let out after 45 minutes-hour even though the class is supposed to be 1 and1/2 hours, the tests are 50 question with 45 minutes and you cant go back in the test
Sharon Davis is honestly the worst professor I've ever had. All she does is talk about current events during class, none of which are on the exam. I don't even show up to class anymore because her lectures are off topic, I do the random in class assignments from home, and the powerpoints aren't good. At all.
This class is really terrible. If you don't like history or politics then you will probably fail. Tests are incredibly hard and you may think you understand going in but the questions are so specific. Professor Davis doesn't care about helping students and enjoys to watch them struggle. Just saying.
I would advise anyone to avoid this professor. From pre-k to my Sophomore year in college, she is by far the WORST professor I have ever had. You have 4 test that make up 80% of your grade and they're hard! Please do yourself a favor and take any other professor. If you care about your GPA, DO NOT TAKE HER.
Do not take her. She refuses to stay on topic, loves pushing her political agenda and labels it current events, all hw and quizzes are Cengage and have no relation to our tests, our tests were too specific, too many people fail her tests despite attending lectures and completing all assignments. She is a waste of money, time, effort, and patience.
She recently changed the course curriculum and now the tests are very difficult. Like you need to MEMORIZE that textbook and more to get an A on the tests.
She's a nice person but as a professor I wouldn't recommend. Her material on blackboard is very unorganized and is not communicative about upcoming assignments. Her tests are very specific and her study reviews are not very helpful.
Prof Davis is a sweet lady. She really cares for her students and always tries to help every one do well in her class. The class is made up of a few in-class assignments, online homeworks, and a few tests. If you stay on top of things and turn in the assignments and homeworks and look over her PowerPoints before the test you'll do fine.
Hey guys, if you want to suffer in this class that most of yall don't even need, then, by all means TAKE THIS CLASS. Lectures were pointless and a waste of time. No matter how much you study, you will probably fail since the material on exams is not the same as those in class. Do yourself a favor, and take a different class. (you'll thank me later)
Professor Davis is one of the most inconsiderate professors. She generalizes the class based on patterns. For example, she says "no one uses the review so I won't make a review. " Her exams are very short on time. 50 Q's in 40 mins. We waste time on current events when the exams are nothing like it. Powerpoints are nothing like exam. DO NOT TAKE!!!
This class was super easy online. I did nothing to study bc you don't need to its that easy. And she also is very responsive to emails.
Her lectures are very mediocre, she seems unsure of what she's talking about at times. She is very relaxed and jokes around, and the class is very easy to pass with high marks if you put in some time in studying and not miss any homework assignments. She is a bit disorganized a times, such as making assignments without putting it on the calendar.
Like other comments said, she is super unorganized. The calendar is a mess and she gives random assignments and makes it due the next day or in a couple days. I'm fine with the assignments, but I prefer if she actually listed them in the syllabus instead of popping them up randomly in emails. I highly recommend taking her online though.
She was not prepared for online courses after we got moved to online. When the semester was still at UH she wasn't a good lecturer and did not care about her students. I would not recommend.
I truly believe Davis can be a good instructor. However, with her lack of organizational skills, effective communication, and struggle with technology, she is not her best. She seems to care, is very receptive to the issues that she addresses (so many emails from students went unread). She desperately needs more training and TA. Taken Summer Mini
She is not prepared as an online professor!!! She posts no lectures. You read the textbook and take a test over what you read. You teach yourself and the tests are NOTHING like the quizzes and homework. She is not clear on instructions and she does not seem to help when you ask for it.
I had Professor Davis for an asynchronous online class and, prior to this semester, I had never experienced a course that even began to approach the level of disorganization as hers'. She communicates poorly, gives unclear instructions (if she gives instructions at all), and follows no calendar. I could not possibly recommend her less.
Course content is self explanatory, nothing too heavy, mostly memorization. Professor Davis however does take a while to put in grades, there would be assignments from months ago that would still yet be put into the grade book. If you're big about knowing your grades asap this might not be the right professor for you but otherwise pretty chill.
Professor Davis is an awful instructor. Since her quizzes and tests are auto-graded, this leaves more than enough room to record lectures. She is terrible at communication, and offers rude responses to those who either need help, or dont put their email in the right format (if she answers at all). There is little to no organization. Shame on her.
Professor Davis is very unorganized. She puts minimal effort into our learning, as our work consists of a simple Cengage assignment per week and watching some Crash Courses she linked. The material is easy, but there is poor communication and she expresses a lot of frustration and a lack of patience at any attempt to reach our for help.
I have nothing to say about Sharon Davis except, DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER COURSES. She is disorganized and rude in her emails and announcements. Offers little help, which is the bare minimum, considering she does not record any lectures. I wish I could rate her zero.
WORST professor I've ever had! She is super disorganized and is super snarky and sarcastic in her emails. The Tests are insanely hard and are uber specific to the textbook, its not even funny. With the majority of her class failing these tests, she does very little to help. She relies on the online service to teach while she lays back and be old.
most people failed the first test we had, so she gave us a review for the next test. alot of people ended up getting a good grade on the test because the review she made for us was very helpful. for the next test she decided to give us a more general review but made the test super random? i just thought that was wierd
This class is a nightmare. You have to read so much and teach yourself everything because there is no lecture. At the beginning of the semester, she didn't even communicate with us until everyone bombed the first test. If you don't want to spend all your time on political science don't take her class.
So many readings
Disorganized, rude, and a nonexistent teacher. I had to teach myself this entire semester with the help of classmates. Her test reviews are garbage so you better just read the chapters. Cengage and the textbook are the real teachers.
Do not take POLS 1336 with her. No lectures were uploaded even tho she needed to. All work needed to do was from the textbook on Cengage. She also uploads extra credit assignments that you need to do. Her reviews for exams? Trash. The exams itself ask very specific questions, so reading the book in detail is needed to pass exams.
I seriously regret taking this class taught by this woman. I dont want to say her name for the fear of summoning is too great. She is rude, to say the least. To say the most, she is disorganized, inconsiderate, and flat out one of the worst teachers Ive ever encountered. She should be ashamed. She doesnt care whether or not a student passes. Sad
Theres not much to say. Please dont be like me and not look up a professor on this site before enrolling. As you can see from the other reviews, shes not a good professor. She wont care about your plights, nor your concerns. Take POLS1336 with any other instructor.
I had to teach myself this whole semester, and I just feel so beaten down by classes like this. Honestly, UH has been a huge disappointment in general.
her class is really good! she gives extra credit on tests. there also isn't that much homework. i would definitely take her again i ended up with a 98 in the class.
She is not clear at the beginning of the semester on her expectations. She is incredibly disorganized. There are no lectures you just have to read the textbook and take a very hard test over what you read alone. She seemed to get annoyed when her students emailed her to ask questions. Her homework software was so hard to use and she did not care.
This class was asynchronous so there was no live classes but compared to my other asynchronous class this one was so impersonal. We just read the textbook and did assignments on various articles. She was unresponsive to emails and unwilling to work with students. I could have learned this class through youtube and saved my money.
Took this class asynchronous. Grade was based mainly on exams but also cengage & random assignments. I wouldnt take this class with her if youre a planner, she often posted spontaneous random assignments for a grade. Tests are very textbook heavy. She did provide multiple extra credit opportunities though. Overall, pretty okay professor.
Terrible experience. She didn't teach a thing asynchronously. All we did was read the textbook and complete some mindless activities we had to pay extra for. Also super disorganized and gave out random assignments. The only good thing is she offered extra credit when a bunch of people complained.
She's a tough teacher and makes you really work for your grade. The tests are evenly weighted so that's a plus. She gave often test resources before tests but we always have to ask for it. Lots of extra credits are a plus.
The majority of this course was self-taught because she only sent out two lectures where she didn't cover much of what would be on our exams. Speaking of exams, they will be EXTREMELY detailed so you have to pay CLOSE attention to everything you read. Overall this was the most stressful course I took my first semester.
a lot of people complained abt this class but honestly it was rlly easy. i barely read the textbook and i finished with a high A in the class. this class is mostly self-taught if you do it online so you need to be organized for this class!!
Took this class asynchronously. What's really going to get you is your memorization skills. The exams are so insanely detailed and the reviews are either 1) completely broad you have to memorize everything on the topics to be prepared or 2) just don't include key elements to the test. No lectures, all self-taught. I rec another prof for this class
Wasn't even teaching the entire semester, I did not get any help from her and she wasn't understanding despite it being Fall2020 which was basically the first full semester with COVID, her tests were extremely based on the textbook and had her work due at Noon? not midnight like most professors
It is clear that she was not prepared or organized coming into this class (Intro to Public Policy). The class is discussion-based yet the discussion never involves any of the concepts presented in the textbook, meaning you will read 50 plus pages only to be completely lost in the class discussion. In-class assignments have no make-ups. Terrible.
Not really a lot of homework, however I would not personally recommend. Her syllabus was all over the place and does not really give the information you need. Overall really unprofessional and not really helpful. In my personal experience, the content she gives does not really help unless you read the textbook.
She always cancels class and then provides us with the information we need to study for the test the night before. She never uses all of the class time when we do have class and the information we are taught during class has absolutely nothing to do with what is on the test. Absolutely do not recommend.
The fact this professor receives a salary is ridiculous to me. This class isn't hard but it's literally links to youtube videos to learn the content. This "professor" in total probably wrote 4 sentences for the course... and you get to pay 75 bucks to do the homework. Pure evidence that intro courses at UH are a scam and shouldn't be required.
Teacher was very unorganized, and was not really present in my opinion. Canceled class several times, was not clear on instructions, and syllabus was not prepared that great. Information taught in class was rarely on the exam. She does not really engage when she teaches , she just reads off of the powerpoint.
she canceled class a lot at the start of the semester. for tests the reviews only helped so much, when we were actually given one, and you have to read the chapters yourself if you want to pass
A lot of people complained about her but this class was honestly really easy it was a hybrid class so we didn't always meet in person. Read the textbook to pass exams do assignments and inquisitives and that's it. Highly recommend if you're not lazy. A lot of people who took this class had no work ethic and liked to complain.
Awful teacher shes rude and so unprofessional cancels classes all the time class if fairly easy as long as you read the textbook but shes an bad teacher/person. rude when you email her and sometimes doesnt address everything or respond at all. Her lectures are pointless you learn by just reading the textbook. Dont take her unless u wanna read.
I'm getting an A in this class, and I highly recommend that you steer CLEAR of this professor! The materialin this class is useless, the book is basically your life-blood. God forbid you have other classes to take and can't read all the chapters to the most minuscule detail just to do decently on what's supposed to be an easy state-required class.
Professor Davis canceled class often and when you did attend lectures, she wouldn't cover necessary material for an upcoming test. The grading for this course is extreme and I highly don't recommend it especially if you're a bad test taker; 80% for the tests and 20% for all assignments completed. The test reviews were poor-- do not take her.
While she herself is not horrible, the way the class is structured is. Homework due dates are very unorthodox. Grades are heavily influenced by exams which are mostly review and textbook based. Going to the class itself is not very helpful. Honestly the best way to pass this class is to work and collaborate with your fellow classmates.
Has the worst syllabus set up I have ever seen. It's not even a multipage document but rather short blurbs/paragraphs scatter across a handful of BlackBoard pages. The BlackBoard also has a horrible layout, the worst I have ever seen in fact. Your weekly quizzes are also due at an odd time which is not bad by itself, just really weird timing.
She's a nice lady but not a good teacher. to get an A take notes from the book and do the review in detail. her lectures barely help you unless she gives random questions that she says will be on the test. you basically have to teach yourself. don't take unless this is your LAST RESORT like it was for me
Tests are textbook heavy and her teaching is boring. She's not the best at communication as she doesn't respond to students a lot. If you ever have problems with your Inquizitive assignments, she won't be much help. Attendance isn't mandatory as she posts notes online but certain test questions are said in person and not online so you should go.
This professor is one of the best at UH. She actually likes what she teaches! This teacher teaches very well. I have taken 3 of her classes now just to take it since shes AMAZING. THIS PROF should be a head of the poli sci department. 10 out of 10!! TAKE HER
The class workload can be rough, but the teacher is not the best at lecturing what tends to be on the exams (more textbook heavy), but she is a good person and an understanding professor.
This semester we did go through lots of technical difficulties and at times there were no powerpoints, but other than that she was super chill, reasonable, and lenient when it came down to grading, attendance, deadlines, and how difficult the exams were.
Not bad but the lectures were all over the place? We watched an entire Simpsons episode one class, and then heavy lecture notes another so definitely don't skip class you never know what you'll get. She's sweet and the class layout was simple. Basically I felt like only the textbook taught me anything despite it being hybrid.
The class was lectures were mainly class discussion with a few in class assignments. Dr. Davis was engaging for an early morning class. Majority of your grade is based on the midterm and final, which reflected the material in the textbook. Attendance was not required but you could miss the class assignments.
She barely teaches in her lectures, instead tasks about literally anything else. The textbook material is a lot, but without it (or the prior knowledge I used from AP US Gov) you will most likely not pass the tests. There are weekly inquizitives which don't really help you gain knowledge.
I did her hybrid class and didn't attend any lectures. I hear from others that her classes are disorganized and chaotic. 4 tests, each worth 20 percent with the remaining 20 being in completing Inquisitive assignments. If you stay on top of hw its an ez 20 percent. Tests are heavily based on book material so READ.
She is very hard to reach, and overall very disorganized. But she does provide a curve for exams.
She was difficult to reach and was pretty ambiguous about what is on the exams, but if you just read the textbook you would do fine on the exam. The curves she gave were also clutch.
She is literally the definition of passive-aggressive for a professor. I believe that since this is an online class you must show a lot of respect and have interpersonal skills and she has definitely missed the mark. She has a negative attitude throughout her syllabus. made it impossible to pass test and would just curve it to keep her job.
She did not follow her syllabus, she would tell us what the test would cover, and it didn't even cover all she said. Tests are also in-person, (read the textbook) if you do that, you will be fine. She seems nice but she is very hands off, and not a good professor. She does curve grades, and everything besides exams are completion grades.
Davis is a sweet, old lady but rambles about random stuff a lot. Her lectures don't really relate to the actual course content. You actually need to read the textbook to pass the (hard) exams. She's alright I guess, but try to get another professor.
Horrible professor. Not accessible at all and tests cover nothing according to the syllabus.
Professor Davis can be difficult to reach, but the textbook covers the material well. Attendance is mandatory, but staying on top of the Inquisitive assignments and studying the textbook should get you through the exams. Unstuckstudy was a great study tool to prep for tests.
