One of the best teachers I have ever had. Tough, critical, and expects a lot...but all in a good way. You will learn so much from her about the class, life and yourself. If you have ANY chance to take her, do it.

I learned more in this class and from this professor than in any of my college career.

The most provocative teacher i ever had. she makes you think until your brain fries and then cools down and then she fries it again. she's awesome - from theory to literature she knows it all.

You just have to take this professor- the wealth of information she teaches will change your life. Come to class prepared to learn. If you want to become a thinker, (she makes websites look bad) you won't believe what your mind can extend so broadly.

This class will make you think until you think your brain is about to melt and dribble out your ears. If you don't know what critical thinking is, take this class. If you want a challenge, especially a challenge of your own thinking, take this class.

Awesome,wonderful! She will challenge you incredibly,but you'll learn so much. She raised my confidence in my writing skills immensely. I will be getting my MA from Columbia Univ. in February,and wouldn't have had the fortitude to apply w/out her classes!

Single most challenging professor at MSU. She weeds out the people who shouldn't be English majors with her choice of literature and her very open, honest discussions about life, literature and the sad state of education. Not recommended for lazy students

I had Lewis with Pursuits. Now you English majors out there know that pursuits is the most dreaded class we have to take. Let's just say, I would not have survived without her. She is fantastic and should be a requirment for all english majors.

The most amazing lady ever. She challenges you to see beyond the ordinary and is nothing but supportive. Maybe a little intimidating at first, but she is one of the warmest most caring people ever. MSU is a better place because of her. Best prof. ever.

The class consists of reading 4 short books, writing 4 papers, free writing every week. Oh, i forgot to mention its based on racism. She is a nice woman and helps you think outside of the box but defiantely does not like white people, especially males!!

Readings require you to not only learn but look inside yourself. She depends on the class to be the source of conversation so if you don't have a good group dynamic the point goes out the window. The best prof. at MSU.

didn't always agree with her, but always found her respectful of students who didn't agree. definitely has her opinions, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Remembered me years later. Very approachable and excited about her subject.

She was a brilliant professor. She allows individuals to express themselves, and NEVER lets the personal interfere with her professional demeanor. She is very approachable, she loves students and loves to learn. Come to class with something to offer, because she has done her homework.

Atttention all college students who need to take EnWr 105...you need to have ms. lewis. She is the best teacher i ever had in college. All we do is discuss topics in class and freewrite for 5 minutes. I guareentee you will enjoy the class. I give her an A+ as a teacher. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. plus, I hate writing but love this class. think about that.

Here is the bottom line...LEWIS ROCKS THE WORLD!!! She is the most wonderfully enlightening teacher you will ever have the honor of experiencing. She forces you out of the rut and into self exploration. If you can, get Lewis, DO IT!!! She's the best there is!

I'm a fan! Dr. Lewis is difficult, but approachable, knowledgeable, and, well... it's obvious she is in the right profession. She loves what she does and it shows. She's an asset to MSU. Honestly, it was a priviledge to be in her class. She's the best!

honestly the best class ever. lewis is great, she knows what is going on and somehow you will too. ive never had an english/writing teacher that ive actually been able to walk out of the class that ive enjoyed and that ive actually learned something. it was great. id take her again in a heart beat.

Dr. Lewis is tough, fair, kind, generous, and brilliant. She is willing to go to great lengths for students and former students, but there is no babying. The discussions in class were so good that I often ended up staying after to keep them going.

I worked my ass off and got a B plus but her class changed my life. This chick is amazing and BRilliant, take her class and i promise you will see the world in a diff way... no textbooks, no tests!! jus a lot of discussion and readings which u could print off blackboard... i cant wait to take her again

best class ive had since i got here. you have no choice but to have a new perspective on life. She is what coming to college is all about. No tests a few reaction papers and LOTS of discussion. you are doing yourself a dis-service if you don't take this class!

The professor was very interesting but not always clear when explaining the writing assignments.

this class was so easy. prof lewis makes writing easy. all of our papers were two or three pages long and she let us write about whatever we wanted to. she is a great person and teaches a fun and easy class. would take her again if i could because the class eas fun to go to.

Pretty good professor, despite that I don't like to talk about racism and race BUT at least she makes you think. Yes, she tends to be biased BUT then again who isn't? This is a pretty easy class, just write like 4 pg reaction papers and participate in class discussions. NO BOOKS REQUIRED PPLZ!!!! I recommend her for anyone needing to take GNED

This woman is brilliant. She absolutely changed my life, and I can't say that about many people. She can be a little forgetful and sometimes her assignments are a little unclear because she just expects you to understand where she's coming from. Other than that, she's awesome, friendly, and enthusiastic. Keep an open mind.

absolutely great prof. the discussions are interesting and relevant. she isnt a cakewalk but she doesnt expect insane amounts of work. you do have to keep after her if you need extra help or arent sure about an assignment. take her if you want a class thats engaging with a professor that isnt talking about the same old ideas.

I highly recommend you take Dr Lewis for Pursuits of English. The work was hard and challenging. I have learned more in this class than any other class I have taken and I am a senior! This woman and her teaching materials have completely altered my life. I highly, highly recommend her. Also do all the work for the greatest outcome.

Lewis is my favorite professor at MSU by far. Her class is a lot of work and she's a tough grader but if you put in some time it's so worth it. I'm taking her for pursuits next semester as well and I can't wait! Her class is so inspiring - it makes me love being an English major and it's really made me reexamine my ways of thinking/reading/writing!

Her class isn't exactly an easy A. But she's a really nice person once she gets to know you and stuff. She really does care. That being said I fought (sorta) to get A's and I didn't. Would I take her again. Probably, yea

She is very caring and explains everything in extreme detail. You must be able to reach outside yourself to pass this class. You must take everything you've ever known about reading and writing and change it to be able to engage yourself and recieve above a B. She helps you be able to do this painful effort.

I had her for ENWR 105, and Pursuits with Whitney as well. She is not easy by any means, but she is seriously one of the best professors I've had. You work your butt off in her classes, but you learn SO much. She really makes you think about things you would never have thought prior. DEF DEF take her!

Dr. Lewis provokes students into full fledged controversial discussions. Class was very interesting. When you have an almost 3 hour class and the time goes fast due to discussion, than that class is alright with me. Students need to keep in mind, a teacher is simply a teacher like you and I. We are all scholars. Its not personal.Keep mind open

I had her for Black Writers. Her class was challenging because of the course content and various races in the class. Some material was painful to examine as it dealth w/the disrespect and mental mutilation of blacks. All were encouraged to engage in course discussion as well as disagreement. No tests, 3 papers, xtra credit op, group discussion.

Do the work, come to class, engage in hot class topics, prepare your group project, attempt to do a close reading assignment JUST AS SHE EXPLAINS, add interesting dialogue to class discussion, stay outside of the box, open your mind, and you should get no lower than an A. Excellent class. Talk of racial topics difficult for those inside the box.

She is just able to create a class atmosphere were everyone participates and is at easy. I had some of the most enlightening moments in that class. She is just nice, very nice, and approachable, always there to help. A great person and a great teacher

dr lewis is one of the best professors ive ever had. shes real with her students. she creates an open & comfortable atmosphere which enables students to learn so much. dr lewis changed me as a person. ive taken her more than once, & id take her again if i could. if you get through MSU without taking her thatll be a huge mistake. be ready to learn.

Anyway, she is a phenomenal educator. We disagreed for three years, yet she saw in me a philosophical/racial intelligence I didn't know I had. It's as if she taught me to see what I already knew, but couldn't accept. I have all of her emails saved. It's a shame it took until college for a teacher to care enough to push me, challenge me, respect me!

I love this woman. She is very strict when it comes to attendance, and is very particular in what she wants with certain assignments but the challenge is definitely worth it. If you're an ENGL major I recommend taking her at least once prior to graduating. You will learn so much !

This professor changed my life. She is the one that made me want to teach. I have been teaching for 18 years, and her influence is still with me.
