I could never find her when I needed extra help or explanation. But her lectures were interesting.
Very interesting lectures, class is fairly easy if you read and do the review sheets. Great person for advice on psych majors.
Lectures are rarely relevant to the tests and always have at least one sex reference. If you don't read the text on your own, you're screwed.
Easy enough class if you do all the readings. She gives extra credit points the class after a test usually. She is totally obsessed with sex, but shes nice enough if you dont get on her bad side
Hate class. Nice lady, but I guess I'm not a psyc person. Possible to get a good grade if you memorize text and notes. Notes ?s can make or break your grade. But she's nice and tries. A little har to deal with.
Her lectures are wonderful... but she only speaks about the interesting subjects (which unfortunatly only covers 1/4 of the unit tested on). Be prepared to read almost all the book. Hard grader... get used to her tests. Make good essays and do the extra credit!
Dr.Lewis definitely knows her subject, but this is a HARD class (Brain & Behavior). She is kind of intimidating and does not seem to be very approachable. I loved the subject matter of the class, if you like psychology its great. Tests are difficult and you do read the entire textbook.
very hard class, i made a D in it..do not take it..take Carter's class
She's a really tough professor, but you learn a lot in her class. She covers a lot of material, but I don't think her tests in intro were as difficult as everyone said. If you're interested in psych and you want to learn a lot, take her class.
Not at all reserved when it comes to the subject or reference of sex. She lectures on interesting material but it is nontheless IRRELEVANT to the actual test, or most of it, anyway. You have to read the book on your own, in lecture you only piack up scant mentionings of test stuff.
She did not teach us anything that we needed to know for the test. She told us more stories about her job as a psychologist
doesn't take attendance AND gives extra credit to the ppl who go.. her lectures were very interesting and i have a lot of respect for her as a psychologist... but the test mostly came from the book.. HOWEVER if you go to class, she tells you what to focus on for the test and what the essay topics will be! with a minor effort it's an easy A!
I loved her classes, she is a very nice woman and very helpful. Her lectures are always really interesting. She gives comprehensive review sheets about exactly what will be on the test, yeah you'll have to read the book to do well but thats sort of the point of college.
Very good, especially if you're an nbb major. she's very biologically based. you have to read practically the entire book on your own b/c the lecture has nothing to do w/ a lot of the questions, but the test is exactly from the study guide. she's not in her office a lot, but as long as you set up an appointment w/ her, she's really helpful
she's terrible! she's a B****!!!!! don't take her class! take dr. carter!!
dude she is the nastiest teacher ever, she wears those nasty skirts so guys will stare and also she has favorties, dont take her, i was lucky to get a B in that class, she tries to cheat you if she doesnt like you, take Dr. Carter and be safe, so you dont have to see her ugly ass
seriously ... this lady is psychotic ... her tests don't cover her lectures at all ... her tests are based all on readings and really random stuff that she never went over in class ... i almost changed my major because of her!!!!!! she almost screwed me life!!!
She is super nice and her lectures generally relate to what is currently going on in the world. I found her to be very intelligent (though a bit ditsy one-on-one) and very motivating. She made me actually enjoy science and I learned a hella lot in her class! Tests are REALLY REALLY hard so you have to study well, but her study guides help alot!
Incredibly difficult class. Her lectures related to current events more than the material covered on the tests. Hated science going into it...LOVED the class when I left. I have never learned more during a one semester class in my college career. I learned alot from this class but had to work my ass off for a C.
As far as teaching goes, shes great. Very science/bio oriented and enthusiastic about the subject. Really knows her stuff. Got me very interested in neuroscience. As far as personality goes: meh. Doesn't seem to like guys. Can be very condescending, a 5 letter word describes her well. Great teacher, horrible personality.
She convinced me to change my psychology major! She's never in her office, and she gets annoyed when you ask her questions. Her classes never pertain to the tests or the book!! Overall, she sucks. Take another prof.
Only seems ****y if you're lazy. This was my favorite class, and she's brilliant. Take the class if you like psych. Be prepared to work hard and learn a lot of cool info.
The class is interesting, but there is a LOT of reading. Attendance is mandatory and you are allowed only 2 absences, even if you are sick as a dog. I hated having to do the LL essays for every reading, waste of time! She chooses favorites, so make sure you suck up to her from the beginning if you hope to get an A.
The lectures are interesting. She will talk openly about sex A LOT. The exams are pretty hard but she tells you the possible essay questions during lectures. You have to read the textbook to survive this class!
Excellent teacher. She really teaches the material to where you remember it. However the test are difficult, but taking the class with her is worth it.
tons of reading, but easy A if you keep up and dont bs it
why would u want to take psych100 in the first place? it is pretty interesting but you will need to study A LOT in order to get at least B in this course. I READ AND READ THE WHOLE BOOK just to get a B. good luck.
Terrible terrible teacher. Horrible personality. If you're a guy, drop the class right away. She talks openly about sex a lot and it is disgusting to listen to in the morning. Lectures are USELESS. Memorize the book. Take another professor. She ruined psychology for me.
First and foremost, I took her during the summer so it could be a little different. Overall, she is a great teacher. I would totally recommend her and this class. I have learned tons of useful tips. Attendance is recommended bc extra credits and stuff she talks about outside of the book. She gives study guides but tests could have surprising items
Dr. Lewis was not an easy professor by any means, but was very helpful when visited during office hours. Gave interesting and relevant lectures that supplemented textbook. Course was a lot of work, but I learned a ton.
She is simply AMAZING. Gives random extra credits a few days before the test for those who attend class. Gives study guides. Doesnt give minuses so its all clear cut (90=A etc). Extensive use of textbook. Very interesting lectures with a lot of useful tips for students. She looks like a baby when she smiles. Totally recommend her
Absolutely terrible class. Apparently, 7 sentences of a weekly assignment are worth the same as the 5 pages for the final paper. Never take this class. The grading system is horribly flawed. Also, you have to print out several dozen articles instead of using a book. Costs a fortune in printing costs. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Dont expect to get an A in the class. you are blessed if you have a B. she loves talking about sex.. its awkward. Your textbook will be your test. generally difficult course. out of the general intro courses, definitely one of the more difficult ones. G.P.A Killerr
Dr. Lewis is the greatest! I did not know what to expect of psychology at first, but learned so much in her class. Attend lectures, because then you'll do great on the tests. Also, read, read, READ the book. By the end of the term, mine was all highlighted. GOOD professional and person. Makes you wanna major. Hey, it's psychology. You'll love it!
Just do not take her courses for god sake. She teaches bs in class about sex and nothing useful. you may work your ass off to only get a B, which is considered a great achievement for her class. The only thing you can do to prepare for the exams is to read, read, and read the textbook which is all about bio rather than psycho
Let me just say, take it from someone who's been there, done that, and doesn't regret. Please take Psy360 with Dr. Lewis. Expect a heavy reading+ writing load as well as daily class discussions, but it's so worth it! This is a seminar that will stay with you for the rest of your life since it is so practical and it will foster your personal growth.
Even though her lectures last forever, she never manages to cover even a quarter of what's on the tests. She stresses really small, trivial details you don't need to know, and the tests cover an honestly ridiculous amount of information. Complete the entire review and read the textbook if you want to passyou basically have to teach yourself.
She likes to talk a lot but it's a discussion based class so she gives you the floor. She can be condescending at times but overall she's okay. The class is a continued writing and has TPSL connected to it too.
Passive aggressive professor and often teaches by lecturing and lots of essays. Lots of repetition in the course.
Professor Lewis's class proved to be my hardest one yet. While the subject was easy, the only grades are the 3 exams. Each class just consists of a lecture and doesn't cover a lot of the material that'll be on the test. If you want to pass you really have to read the text book and readings and teach yourself .
"Easy" A if you do all the work, but it's a lot of work! Expect between 4 and 7 mini-essays due every week. There are also two longer papers, but no extra research is needed for these. Grade is based entirely on attendance/participation, mini essays, and the two papers. Was a great class with really interesting subject matter, definitely recommend!
She's great ... If you read
Won't get a decent grade if you don't like reading textbooks. She never talks about the materials that will be on the tests. God. And she does not even use +/-.
As long as you read the textbook, you will do fine. Just make sure you study for the tests since they are your only grade.
Dr. Lewis is awesome! I thought the content/lectures were very interesting and I enjoyed her class. Be ready to read a lot. There are only 3 tests so you have to do well, although there is a lot of extra credit opportunities. Her class was straight up memorization and reminded me a lot of AP Psych. She is such a nice lady. Highly recommend!
Only three tests but those three tests make up your whole grade. If you don't skip class, you'll get some participation points. The subject is easy, but you'll need to memorize everything and know how to apply. Her lectures don't cover a lot of the material that'll be on the test. She's a bit passive aggressive and not flexible.
Dr. Lewis must be one of my favorite teachers of all time. She gave insightful lectures and interesting projects. While her class was extremely engaging, it was also very easy. If you show up and put effort into her seminar classes, you will get an "A."
Sooooo many readings and essays. Takes way too much time. Won't take her class anymore.
Reading is pretty heavy, but if you space it out it should be manageable. Showing up to class and taking lecture notes is very useful for tests. No homework. Provides review lists for tests, so use them. Tests are mostly multiple choice + an essay. She's a very nice person and has engaging lectures - get to know her outside of class!
Pretty easy class. She explains the course material well, but you still need to read the textbook and articles she provides in order to pass the class. A lot of each test is just straight memorization, but she provides review sheets to base studying off of. Lectures were interesting and she is very reputable, would recommend for an easy A.
Psych 110 was amazing! Her lectures are very interesting and important so dont skip as she mentions things that will be on the test in class. However, she doesnt explain everything, so youll have to read all the chapters assigned from beginning to end (Each chapter is usually 30-40 pgs). Overall, I recommend. And she gives extra cred!
Professor Lewis is by no means a bad professor. The biggest problem for me is that she will sometimes go off on tangents during the lectures which, as a result, ends up confusing her students about what is essential information and what is "fluff". Despite this, I would say she really taught in an interesting way. If I could, I would give her a 3.5
If you're planning on taking Intro to Psych, seriously do it with her. She has a lot of extra credit opportunities, is a good teacher, and cares about her students.
As a person, I have a lot of respect for Dr. Lewis. that being said, Foundations of Leadership was one of the most grueling classes I have ever taken. though I enjoyed the in class discussions. The amount of homework is incredibly overwhelming and the two take-home assignments are a lot of work. Only take this course if you have few other courses.
Hardest class I took at Oxford. It's designed to be an intro class, but Dr. Lewis makes it 10x harder by testing everything (lecture, textbook, ereserves). It's a class that even you work hard, you may not succeed. Take it at your own risk.
Way too much reading/writing for Psych 360W. The books are expensive and you eventually realize that you don't need to try as hard for homework since you can choose which ones to turn in. However, I learned a lot and it's helped me get an internship/jobs in the future. She also really cares about her students, and my class was really small.
Dr Lewis is a super sweet professor who is very passionate and cares about her students, but the intro to psych class was only based on 4 test grades, which were all pretty difficult. She only covers a little bit of topics on her lectures, which means you have to take copious notes on the textbook chapters.
- Plenty of readings and plenty of mini-essay assignments(which 90% of them she won't even look at) - Plenty of lecturing which touches everything else but the main concept - Grading policy in canvas is ambiguous, so u will have to pay attention to her pointless lecture to do it right - Avoid her if you can
Don't take PSY 110 by Dr. Lewis unless absolutely necessary. She isn't very helpful or accessible after class. Her lectures are not very interesting and she doesn't care if you learn or not. To make an A on a test, you must spend HOURS memorizing every detail of the lecture notes. The responses to essay test questions is graded extremely hard
Dr. lewis is hard, but if you actually want to learn you should take her class. Grades were based on 3 exams and some points for perfect attendance. She doesn't go over everything in the textbook and not everything she teaches can be found in the textbook so you do need to show up and do all of the reading to do well, but if you do you'll do well.
I only gave her a 2 because, although she was a kind lady and offered to help me, that help proved to be ultimately useless. Her review guides never helped me with test-taking and you had to remember every detail which is impossible! Even though it's an intro class, it's far from easy. People who aren't science majors, beware.
Absolutely amazing! She is very caring and understanding. Make sure you do the readings and take notes. This was a discussion based class so participation matters a lot and it's always based on the readings. Her grading is not very harsh, but it is reflective of the work you put in. It's not difficult to get an A, she wants to give people As.
Dr. Lewis, while very smart, cannot teach well. She'll occasionally ramble about unrelated topics, causing classes to constantly be out of sync and behind the schedule. Few things are graded, and they are graded harshly. For an intro class it was difficult but not impossible, just takes a lot of studying to pass. I'd Take someone else if possible.
Dr. Lewis is smart and lectures well. However, her tests covers lots of materials and you have memorize small details in her lecture, readings, textbook. They are hard and only 2-3 people can get a grade above 90. Most people are in the range of 70-80. I won't recommend someone to take her class if not a psych major.
Would not recommend taking this class with Dr. Lewis. Her tests are absurdly difficult and are solely based on how well you can memorize the book. She often goes on rants during lecture about irrelevant topics. The only good thing is that she gives you extra points for attendance. Overall, very hard for an intro class.
Do not take this class. This was by far the hardest class I've taken at Oxford as a pre-med. I had to devote more time preparing for this class than I did for bio. The tests are solely based off the text book and do not reflect the one's understanding of the material, just one's ability to memorize the textbook. Dr. Lewis can be rude
Easily the most coursework I've had to do for any class in my college career. The "interestingness" of the material gets dulled by the hundreds of pages of readings she assigns a week.
Unless you want to spend your spare time memorizing a textbook, there are better professors for PSYCH 110. Take them.
DO NOT TAKE PSYCH 110 WITH HER. She is just no. 1/5
Dr. Lewis is the hardest Psychology class I have ever taken. AND its an intro class. Typically the first Psyc class you take in college. Awful experience
I absolutely hate this class. Trust me and don't take her.
Professor Lewis assigns a lot of reading, and we were also assigned essay assignments every class. Discussion contribution and participation also matter a lot. She isn't a hard professor in that it's pretty plausible to get an A, but only if you put in a lot of effort. She grades pretty leniently, its just a lot of work.
Honestly, this class was a ridiculous amount of work for an intro psych course. Her tests require a lot of preparation and ask you about minor details in the textbook, so make sure you know the textbook inside and out. She's also just not the nicest person.
Your entire grade is based on 3 exams and 4 short quizzes. She doesn't teach in class and her tests are just so hard!!! Pick another professor for Psych 110 if you want a good GPA.
ENTIRE grade based on 3 exams and 4 quizzes, yet she says that "grades don't define you" at the beginning of exams...doesn't cover ANY material in class, entirety of test is based on readings never discussed in class. If you want to go to class and learn, don't take her class. The worst thing is that the subject material is actually interesting.
RUN!!! Harsh graders! Lots of details! Choose another professor!
Her classes didn't seem difficult but due to the nature of the assignments, she could grade them however she wanted. On opinion-based papers, the grade you received showed that she did not agree with your opinion. It was manageable, but I should have probably taken another class other than this one.
If you're willing to put in the work, an A is totally doable. The tests cover a lot of information, both from the textbook and her lectures, you need to know the content through and back. Dr. Lewis is extremely accessible and I would recommend taking advantage of her office hours to clarify class material prior to tests!
Professor Lewis fails to recognize the type of class psy 360 is. It is not designed to be harder than an organic chemistry course yet somehow she manages. The amount of reading outside of class is unrealistic and disrespectful of students' time. If you don't agree with her opinion don't say a word in class and especially don't write about it.
Dr. Lewis is a nice lady, but her tests are extremely hard. She will grab a random question from the test book and want you to know it. If you work with her on how to study best, she will help you succeed. I didn't try hard enough so didn't do as great. But, get ready to read a lot and to memorize A LOT.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!! RUN
I took Lewis for her Intro. to Leadership Class. I enjoyed her lectures and the paper material. I did not think she was a hard grader, there was a decent amount of work, but manageable.
She taught leadership qualities, such as empathy. However, she personally does not have those qualities. She does not care about her students and is very stagnant. Please do not take her class. The worst experience ever.
People say Dr. Lewis is very difficult - yes, you have to go to class and read the textbook carefully - but truly it isn't as hard as people make it out to be. Lectures are DRY and she often makes comments that are offensive and inappropriate. She is very accessible for help however, and sitting in the front and looking engaged will help a lot.
The low reviews for Dr. Lewis are surprising. I expected the worst, but the course isn't bad at all. She's kind and gives extra credit for attending lectures. Her lectures can be boring, but she gives hints for test questions. The tests require a lot of memorization but are manageable with proper studying. If you don't cram, you can get an A.
Memorize the textbook. Some of her in-class activities can be pretty helpful—make sure to attend class, as she may give extra credit for just showing up. She's decent at lecturing, but beware of the tests and don't stop studying even when you think you're ready (cannot emphasize memorizing the textbook enough). Grading scale does not use + or -.
When I told people I was taking this class they told me I was cooked. In all honestly she isn't as bad as she's worked up to be. Does she know my name? No. But she loves to see passion and as long as you are passionate and focus on readings you'll be fine. Quizzes are online and the class is only hard if you are a bad test taker.
run!!! if your a freshman , do not take this class . please save your gpa. u will cry after every exam
This class has without a doubt been my favorite class of the year. It is a skills class that teaches you not only how to be a good employee, but how to be a good person. We discuss several different leaders in society, and how and why they got there - traits leadership traits, styles and characteristics. I learned a lot, everyone needs to take it.
