worst professor you'll ever have
I don't know why she gets such a bad rap. She's decent. Her tests can be tight on time, and she grades strictly, but there are no surprises with Navard. I really do not know how someone could give her a 1 for clarity...
DIfficult class, but extremely knowledgable of her subject matter, extremely clear on what she wants. Has been called a tough grader, but she grades everything out of 110%. So, I am very pleased with my experience and much more knowledgable of stat because of her.
Terrible. I have taken two stats classes before. My father does ground breaking work on stats which he recently presented to congress. This was the worst stats experience I have ever had! She is very picky and fails to present the material in a way that makes any sense or keeps u awake. Terrible
I thought she was a very good teacher. She gives lots of extra credit and is very fair (except for her definition of an A). If you are dedicated, it's not hard.
She is the most ridiculous teacher i have ever had in my life. I HATE HER... She assigns hw from the book and then makes up her own tests which have nothing to do with one another... Moral of the story, if you can avoid her... do it
Hard Class!!!
Awful, Awful, stay away! I withdrew.

although she knows what she is talking about, it was extremely hard to get a grade that reflected the work load. i was kind of blindsighted by the amount of work and how tough she graded. i learned alot about statistics, but my gpa does not reflect it. avoid unless u are extremely into statistics.
Gives a quiz every class. You really have to keep up or you're screwed later on. Not a terrible class, but I won't be taking her again.
This class made me hate life. Try to take another stats prof. if at all possible. She makes things way too complicated and is the pickiest ****ing grader ever. Probability calculations that could be done with a TI-83 to make everyone's life easier in complicated problems, she makes you do by hand. Completely unnecessary.
If you can avoid taking her as a professor, i strongly advise it. She tells you exactly what she wants, but it becomes very difficult to achieve up to her standards. She is a very strong-willed woman who will not change her mind about anything even if she is proven wrong.
this class is the worst, do not take her as a teacher. drop out now if you have her for next semester
For some reason most people seem to think she is really tough and the class is really hard. Perhaps because there is a quiz every class and you have to get above a 100 for an A. However it is not that bad. Stats 215 material is not really that difficult and there are many opportunities for extra credit. Also, she is a very good teacher.
To be honest, I dont understand the hate on Navard. Yes, theres like a million quizzes by semesters end and the work is a lot, but if you do what she asks you will learn and she is VERY WILLING to help you learn the material. Highly recommended!
Hardest class ever taken at TCNJ. Very unfair grading system, only grades on tests and quizzes. MUST go to every single class, no excuses no matter what. Condescending and always compares your class to others. For a basic stat class, WAY too much work required. Unless you have hours upon hours of work each week, DON'T TAKE. Wait until next semester
Hard! Stats is not suppose to be a hard subject. She gives quizes EVERY CLASS! Too much work especially when you have other classes to deal with.
okay so i left a comment last semester saying how much i disliked this professor, but to be honest she taught me a lot about the subject. I am not in ECO231 which is applied business statistics, and no one knew what was going on the first half of the semester except for the people who took navard. I got a 100 on the mid-term thanks to her!
HORRIBLE teacher. her tests are IMPOSSIBLE and nobody comes out with quiz averages above 60%. if you have her, get out now. more than half of my class dropped. dont take her if you want a good grade.
Really hard teacher who made me hate stat and life. There is legit a quiz or a test every single class. She gives a lot of extra credit but her tests are really hard. She is very exact and does not believe in giving students the benefit of doubt. Dont take her!
Dr. Navard is a great professor and is very enthusiastic about statistics. There is a quiz or test every class, and they are all extremely difficult. A quiz alone takes hours upon end to study for in order to earn a passing grade. I learned a lot about statistics even though my grade did not reflect it.
Great professor I don't know why everyone says that no one passes her quizzes my average at the end of the class was over 100 and I barely studied. She does an excellent job of explaining the material. Highly recommend
Prof. Navard is AWESOME. She is so willing to help and is always willing to stay late and hold extra study sessions. She likes to use M&M's in her examples (yum) and she's super nice. She is VERY thorough and her exams are long and very specific.Make sure you know your stuff or else you're not gonna get past her. Awesome teacher though! :)
It is very true that 30% of the class dropped after the first exam. But if you can stick through it, it is definitely worth it. She is a genius! Perhaps the best teacher I ever had. I came out with an A-. It is possible!
I think she's a good teacher, but for someone who's so used to learning class material blindly, I didn't do too well. You actually have to understand pretty much everything she teaches, and she gives out quizzes every week. The reason why you see a lot of haters is because they see things one-sided.
Dr. Navard made this class a living torture. Gave a quiz EVERY class period, and on top of that, gave extremely long take home tests along with every test. There were 24 quizzes in this class, 3 tests, and 3 take home tests, left no time for any other class, made impossible tests. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!
professor navard is one of my favorite teachers. she is by no means an easy A but it is nowhere near impossible. i got an A by reading her notes that she posts online after every lecture. quizzes are on the material directly from the notes. a hard working student will have no problem getting a good grade
Brilliant woman who definitely knows her stuff. She is willing to work with you independently and she holds study sessions for each exam. You do have a quiz each class though, so be sure to study prior. Her tests can be difficult, but she is very clear and precise in what she expects. Follow her rules and you'll have no problem.
Sweetest woman ever. You need over a 100 for the A, but she gives you so much opportunity for extra credit it's totally do-able. She asks lots of discussion questions which are harder than the math part of stats so make sure to know the material. Would definitely recommend - don't listen to the haters
Not a good professor. About 1/3 of my class dropped the course (including myself). Her quizzes and exams are beyond difficult. Her notes were not helpful at all. You have to either not care about your GPA or be straight up crazy to take this professor for Statistics. If you are not one of the two, then AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
The class was too difficult for beginning stats. I can take higher-level math courses and get B+ or A. Even though I got all the math right on all the tests, she took off most points for missing words or writing too much in explanation. I spent most of my time doing stats just to fail because of words out of place. Those in hard major avoid.
Literally the hardest class I've ever taken in my life, BUT I've also have never learned so much. I still use her (VERY DETAILED) hand-out notes for help in my grad school classes. There are a lot of quizzes and 3 tests and take home exams, but she holds review sessions and will stay until the middle of the night to help. Sweetest woman ever!
Dr. Navard is extremely passionate and knowledgable about statistics. However, she does not communicate well. Her lectures were fairly clear, but she had trouble answering questions and clarifying issues. Tests weren't hard, however she is such a picky grader that you will receive a much lower grade than you expect. Plenty of extra credit though.
Extremely passionate professor, knows the material very well, has very clear lectures, and is willing to help you with literally anything during her office hours. Would take again definitely
I'd avoid taking. She gives quizzes every day and the answers always have to be oddly specific. Sure, she gives extra credit assignments but it is definitely not worth the every day quizzes. I'd look to take someone else.
Unnecessarily hard, it's almost like shes trying to get you to fail, the average was barely passing. You have quizzes every class and my class only had one extra credit opportunity. I would trying avoid this professor at all costs.
If this is the only STA 215 available for you, just wait until next semester when another professor opens up. The fact that after all these endless bad reviews and she still has a job teaching is ridiculous. I got an A in the class but believe me you have to spend hours to get an A. A quiz everyday on stuff that she did not teach yet.
Definitely a tough grader. Doesn't let you use your graphing calculator, so I feel like I worried too much about the calculations and not the interpretation, which is the point of this stats class. She sometimes gets confused with what she says/writes. Pay attention in class, do the homework, and study, and getting an A isn't impossible.
Daily Quizzes for every lecture really add up. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. Tests are difficult because short answer questions have specific answers that have to be phrased "Correctly"
Daily Quizzes are a pain in the butt, but as long as you continually learn they shouldn't be too difficult. Fair tests, make sure you study vocab like the back of your hand. Problems are easy and very similar to her notes. NOTES are ABSOLUTELY perfect, will assist much. Homework not required but helpful for those who struggle!
DO NOT TAKE HER! I came in excited to take this class and came out of it feeling completely defeated. I had 24 quizzes, 2 exams, 3 take home exams and a final just for this class alone. Her take home exams are extremely difficult. She does not help in office hours. She will ruin your GPA and any love that you had for math!!
The worst class I have ever taken in my life. Seriously, avoid. The answers she wants are so specific and confusing there is no chance of doing well. Its a beginner class and there is quizzes every day, she makes the material worse than it needs to be.
She's an amazing teacher and if you put in effort you'll do well - over half of the class got A's. Yes there were 25 quizzes but if you memorize the proofs she does in class and understand how to work the problems they're not bad. For take home tests she gives extra credit for handing them in early and she'll help you with them in office hours.
She had a quiz every single day and tests were way harder than necessary, 1/3 of the class drops every semester. She curves down, you need over 100 to get an A making it necessary not optional to do the extra credit. My friend got a 98 in the class and ended up with an A-. She could not explain things when you asked a question.
Impossible, please avoid. She can't answer things and is an impossible grader.
Navard is definitely a very odd person, and at first, comes off very particular about how things are done and worded. Once you have a feel for her quizzes that she gives every class and her lengthy tests the class is not that hard. The best way to put it is if you put in the work she expects you'll at least pass if not get an A or B.
The sweetest woman ever! You can tell she really cares about her students. She takes a lot of time in writing up her notes. Yes theres a quiz every day, but its a good reason to make you go to class and if you do the launchpad and pay attention, theyre a good booster to your grade. GO TO HER TEST REVIEWS THEYRE THE BIGGEST HELP FOR THE TESTS
This class had 24 quizzes, 3 exams, and a final. There were some weeks where you had two quizzes and an exam (plus the take-home portion)! However, she is generous with bonus points. Be sure to study for exams, especially the PROOFS. Also, prepare for the final!! Dr. Navard is brilliant but definitely makes you work for the grade that you want.
Quizzes almost every class but you will never know if it's on the homework or the previous lecture. Unclear on specific expectations for answers, but will nickel and dime points off for minor technicalities. I got a 4 on the AP Stats exam and I still managed to fail one or two quizzes due to her unclear grading standards. Lots of EC makes up a bit.
This class consisted of 17 quizzes, 3 exams, and a final. She goes through the material very quickly so you have to keep up. Exams and quizzes are reflective of in-class examples, but doing the homework definitely helps strengthen the understanding of the material. This class was as time-consuming as MAT 316 so be ready to study.
I thought that Navard was much better for Probability than this class. She rushed through examples in class so that exam 3 could be in-class instead of entirely take-home. Other than that, it wasn't too bad. As always, tests and quizzes are very representative of in-class examples. I never did the HW but if you're struggling it's probably helpful.
I took MAT 316 & STA 410. You'll learn A LOT, but mostly derivations. If you want to pass exam P, you need to focus WAY more on practice problems and memorizing formulas. It may seem obvious, but an A in this class DOESN'T translate to being ready for exam P, it translates to being able to memorize a ton of proofs and regurgitating them often.
Quizzes every class in the first couple of minutes of class. Even being five minutes late could cause you to miss an entire short quiz or miss the chance to do a couple of questions on a longer quiz. Is a generally nitpicky grader as well. Can only see grade by going to office hours since she doesn't seem to like using canvas.
This course will take up a lot of your time; try to anchor it around lighter courses. She is relentless with quizzes and assignments. I felt her lectures were cluttered and disorganized. Her assignments were generally fair; but her grading criteria is inconsistent. She is the only prof that teaches this course, so know what you are getting into.
Dr. Navard is incredibly sweet and smart. I believe that she wants her students to do well, but do not take this class unless you know you will be able to spend 90% of your time on this course and 10% on the others. She tends to get confused at times. The only way to survive is by memorizing derivations. Prob is tough but it's a right of passage.
Love her as a person but a horrible professor. I would say avoid but she's the only one for prob 316 and stat 410. Makes a ton of mistakes. Prepare for a short quiz tomorrow, long quiz the next day, take home quizzes/tests due that same day. Insane amount of work and will cause you to hate college. Takes points off anything she can. Barely uses tex
Dr. Navard is very disorganized with her notes which makes it hard for students to understand the concepts. You might understand the math but she grades the conceptual questions to the textbook definition... very harsh grader
Have to work for the grade but not hard to do well! Quiz twice a week: one on Launchpad videos (small, about 5 points) and one on the homework/class from the week before (larger, 30-50 points). Quizzes every class so you're not surprised, but they start the minute class does so BE ON TIME! If you do most of the work she assigns you'll be perfect
Unless you are willing to put in a ton of work for this class, do not take it with her. I know stats isn't the easiest class out there but it's definitely not as hard as she makes it out to be. She is extremely picky about her answers and those quizzes every single class are just pain. If you are in her class, just be prepared.
She makes stats harder than it has to be. She is a nice person but a terrible teacher. She would give a quiz on a topic and then teach that topic after the quiz. So doing the launchpad the night before a MUST. Quizzes twice a week. Boring lectures and harsh grader. You never know what topic the quiz or exam is covered so prepare yourself
Has a quiz EVERY class on material taught after the quiz (only seen in non-graded "homework"). Has impossibly high standards, if your answers don't match hers exactly, you'll fail. She's accessible outside class, but doesn't help when the quizzes already killed your grades before you could even ask a single question. Tutors can't help much either.
Just don't do it. Horrible grader, terrible teacher. Takes so many points off for silly mistakes. Hours worth of online homework. QUIZ EVERY SINGLE CLASS, points range from 4-40. Please just take a different professor.
Don't take this class unless you are a math major. She treats this class like it's the only course you're taking. A quiz each class based off the homework and three tests in the semester. If the answer you write is not perfect then it's wrong. Got so many points off for not being word for word. Is lenient, but would never take again.
Worst class I have ever taken. Avoid at all costs. 100% of your grade comes from tests and quizzes. You have 25 quizzes, 2 in class tests, 3 take home tests, and a final. You are guaranteed an hour long quiz every Wednesday, and sometimes you will have 4 quizzes in a single week. If you want to pass, plan to spend 20 hours a week on this class.
Jesus Christ on a cross, do not take this class. There is a quiz every class, literally every single class, and she will mark you wrong for EVERYTHING, even if you get something right. There are 3 tests, which are all extremely stressful, plus the final. You will almost never get to finish the tests. Just a terrible class.
Expect a short quiz every class starting the 3rd class. A major component of statistics is communication, so Dr. Navard will hold you to the highest standard when it comes to articulating conclusions or assumptions. There are 3 assessments and 1 final exam, all of which are time-consuming. Beware that Navard does not use Canvas to record grades.
take ANYONE except this teacher. one of my science professors even told me she is the worst. the way she teaches is not how everyone learns. she recommends homework which I cant even complete because I don't understand whats going on ever. i learn best through youtube videos, which I cant do because everyone uses different formulas...
This prof made my semester hell. She is the worst prof at this school. There is a quiz everyday. You are only graded on quizzes and tests. She does not allow graphing calculators, everything done by hand. She also does not know the material well and often makes mistakes during her lectures. I often left class confused and angry. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Dr. Navard teaches from her typed notes, some examples in class but often skips over the calculations and gives the answer which does not help if you don't understand (which with her notes is difficult to). She grades only from tests and quizzes (everyday are based on material that hasn't even been covered.) No credit back when test is misgraded.
Avoid taking this class at all costs. Exams are insane and she expects you to get everything correct with barely any partial credit. Theres a quiz almost every class on material learned from the past lecture. Unless you've had prior stats knowledge, you would struggle in this class due to the fast paced environment.
Gives a quiz every single class on material she has not taught you yourself. If you want to succeed you should be able to identify what is going to be on the quiz and test without her telling you. Even if you know the answer to the question, if it is not exactly how she wants it you will lose a lot of points. Office hours are helpful.
There is more than one quiz per week on average. When teaching the material, she makes so many mistakes that she is sometimes incomprehensible, and she does a poor job explaining what she writes on the board. For those taking exam P, this class helps but she does not quite cover everything. At least she gives good feedback and responds super fast.
Two quizzes a week. Lots of homework outside of class that is optional, but if you want any chance of passing you must do. She legit said "this is a writing course not a math course." I would do good on the math portion of tests but would always get 0 points on the explaining in full sentences part. Isn't clear on how she wants things explained.
The key to this class really is taking good notes in class and practicing her example problems. Practice doing the problem EXACTLY how she does it. Her canvas is unorganized and I did not find the homework problems helpful. I did not usually do well on the quizzes but I did very well on exams and she drops a lot of stuff at the end.
HOW TO GET AN A IN THIS CLASS: Keep your average over a 100! Try to make your quiz good as high as possible in the beginning of the sem, they get much harder as you progress. For HW quizzes: study the examples she does in class, not the homework! Study hard for the exams. Memorize processes so you can try to get as much partial credit as you can.
She explains the material at a fairly technical level, which makes it hard to understand when you first learn it, but if you understand what she is saying, then you are doing well. She makes many arithmetic mistakes while teaching. Practice the examples she provides in class and read the textbook, otherwise you will struggle a lot. She grades fast.
She is nice and cares about her students, but VERY all over the place and not tech savvy (she's older so I understand). She will get confused about something/do HER OWN problems wrong in the lecture, which is confusing sometimes. There is a quiz everyday, but it's worth like 5% of your grade, so if you want to skip you can, just not all the time.
She is a very nice woman, but teaching isn't her strong suit. Stats can sometimes be a hard concept to grasp and she isnt the best at explaining it in a way that is easy to understand. She offers ALOT of extra credit and do it because she is a tough grader. At the beginning of EACH class there is a hw quiz on what you did in the homework.
Dr. Navard is a nice woman and definitely loves what she teaches. There is a quiz at the beginning of every class, so you should get there on time. The quizzes are on the homework, so I advise that you do it (although I did not). Everything has extra credit, and you can get a high grade if you pay attention in class and take the time to get it.
I don't get why Navard gets a bad rep. She's a quirky woman with a different teaching style but literally everything you need to know is in the homework and lecture material. She is organized and accessible for office hours. Take notes on the homework and the quizzes will be free points. Exams are based on her notes. Practice and u will get an A
Aside from the quizzes every class, which actually made taking the exams easy, I liked this class and the professor
Dr. Navard is a very kind professor who will help you when you're at your lowest. I got a D- on her first test but after going to her office hours and getting extra credit, I was able to bring my grade up. Overall it was a great course. She has a quiz every class so do not skip, the quizzes help with the tests.
She is not the best at tech. She is a great teacher, and if you put some effort into the class, you will do well. Achieve homework can be annoying. There is a quiz every class, but as long as you watch the videos and do the work outside of class. You technically only need to be there for the quizzes and the tests.
Quiz every class on the homework and readings. Use the examples she gives to study for the exams. She isn't the greatest with technology but she makes it work. 3 tests and a final, final is based on the 3 tests in order. She gives lots of opportunity for extra credit so take advantage.
Dr.Navard is a very nice professor. She will give you every opportunity to do well, so much extra credit. There is a quiz every class, sometimes they're easy and sometimes they're not, but she will let you know the class before. You do need to study on your own, the concepts are tough and for many things you need to know them word for word.
Please do not take this class with this specific professor. She is as nice as can be but teaching should not be her line of work. She is incredibly disorganized and teaches very strictly. Students learn things in different ways but that is not possible to do in her class. Her canvas classroom is confusing and hard to navigate. Please avoid her.
The only good thing I can say about Professor Navard is that she gives a whole bunch of extra credit assignments in order to boost your grade up a little bit. She teaches in a way that makes it easy for you to doze off and fall asleep. She gives tests every class. She is a very sweet person but I definitely would not take this course with her again
Ok so this professor is very sweet, however teaching is not her strong suit. Lots of extra credit but she changed the grading scale so the only way to get an A+/ A in the class is if you get over a 100%.Very disorganized, quizzes, homework, and lectures hardly line up. Goes on random rants about non-math topics, very frustrating class. Stay away.
Navard is a sweet professor, however most of the time she is lost & confused leading to disorganization. For those who have taken stat before this course should be a breeze but if you haven't I suggest you find a tutor because she is not the strongest teacher. A major pro is a lot of extra credit is provided that can help boost your grade by a lot.
Avoid at all cost. Waited at office hours for 45 minutes after scheduling an appointment. Did more work for her class than all my classes combined. She had no idea what she was doing half of the time and graded SO harshly
Great professor. The quizzes every class and homework quiz every other makes the class very hard but it allows you to enforce the concepts well. I probably could have gotten even an A if I did the extra credit for the first test but I missed out. If you take a statistics teacher take this one, I don't understand why she gets a bad rep.
