Took in summer. Easy class if you study a bit.
She is an awesome Prof. The exams are in essay formate but you have a week to do them and if you do the readings and go to class you will do well
Great teacher!! Took in the summer and passed with an A! Study and you will do great. Does not give alot of homework!
She is great. She helps you to discover new ways of thinking and seeing things. Very nive very helpful. She wants all her students to get A's and is very clear on how to earn one.
Very clear and concise in lectures and test material. Dr. Navarro is more than willing to help if a student is confused. You will have to study, but not a tremendous overall workload. I would strongly recommend!
This class was so fun! She has a good sense of humor and it is clear she enjoys teaching! Take this professor!
3 Week Mini Sememster Course is the way to get TX Politics done. Easy A. Yes, you have to study a little. She's nice eye candy made going to class easy. Got out early every day! Great Prof! Needs to work on her standup routine a bit!
Brilliant. If you need to take a Poli Sci course you need to have her as a teacher! She is very helpful if you have questions and the class was never boring. Easy A if you study.
Fair and square. TX Pol is very boring, but just study and tests are easy.
Fantastic. Very willing to help. Effortlessly clear. Makes class fun and fast paced. If you study the reviews, tests are very simple. She only tests from the review.
great at lectures, tells you what she wants and expects from you for that class. study guide/reviews really help for test time. take good notes of the lectures because that's really where the tests come from. She's an awesome prof. and is really approachable if you're not doing so well in class.
awesome professor! to get an A show up everyday, take notes, and do your review. your test is just like the review and her lecture! very straightforward. if you don't like politics i recommend taking the 4week session.
REVIEW GUIDES ARE LONG BUT DO THEM AND STUDY THEM AND YOU WILL GET AN A
She is so overrated. The review sheets are rediculous. They are way to long. Didn't really learn a thing. Class wasn't engaging. Sure she's funny, but can she teach? I don't think so.
Her teaching approach is not very respectable. If you take her class just read the book because she practically reads off of it during class.
I am taking this class from her right now, and I am really amazed by her teaching style. She has made it clear that she has only been doing this a few years, but she is a excellent professor. The Mid-Term was a pain, because it was a take home, and it took up all of my spare time, but I got an A! She is a great person.
Great class Navarro is hilarious and makes the class interesting. Although it was weird how she basically read notes off for lecture and all you did was copy them...sort of elaborated off the notes but other than that you just have what she gives you.
GO TO CLASS, TAKE NOTES, DO THE REVIEW AND YOU WILL GET AN A...ITS EASY!!!
She can't make up her mind on her teaching style, she either wants to talk or she wants to type, and when she starts to mix it it gets confusing. There is no extra credit, three test including the final. I did well in the class but she wasn't a fair teacher. Her review are the only thing that matter but its hard to find the answers.
go to class..write down the notes on the board and complete the whole test outline she gives and study it top to bottom esp the vocab and u will get an A and by top to bottom i mean everything
If you study your life away you have a chance at getting an A, but don't count on it. Only tests make up the grades and there is no EC. The tests are not on scantron, you have to write out vocab defs, short paragraphs and essays. Do not take her! Take Harmon! Hes a little out there, but he is fair and I learned WAY more with him!!!
Her teaching style is not great. I didn't really learn anything from her. Her tests are easy IF you memorize EVERY SINGLE THING on the review. Sounds easy, but it's A LOT. If you have time left on your hands, take her. I don't recommend her.
Take the Maymester, it's so easy! Her notes are very organized and she's nice and helpful. Lectures are taped and put online- attendence isn't required. Sometimes gives bonus points. Yes, study guides are like 10-15 pg.s typed but it is mostly definitions and if you can memorize them, the tests are a breeze. Everything on the test is on the review
The maymester was alot of notes but fair. The exams are M/C and are straight from her review. The class was interesting and she keeps it fun. Would highly recommend :)
I take her for graduate school. A ton of reading and tons of writing, but she is helpful, smart and wants you to improve. Very approachable and she really knows her stuff.
Take the Maymester if you hate politics! It makes a horrendous subject actually not be so painful at all :) Dr. Navarro is a nice, pretty, intelligent woman and her class never got too boring. Attendence isn't mandatory but go anyways to get the review answers from notes, or bonus points. tests are straight from(LONG) reviews. If you try, its an A.
Blah. Her reviews will suck you dry and are so long you'll be so sick of the material by the time you get to the test.
She makes any topic fun and interesting. Notes are very very long and so is the review. But if you show up to class, take all the notes, and do the review you'll get at least a B. It's a pain to try to memorize the review though. She's nice and knows alot about Texas Politics. She is alwasy willing to help especially through WEBCT
so sexy and smart. She is hilarious and dresses great. love her so much take her and you will learn and laugh
She's nice and funny. But the notes are so long.
Notes are really long, but as long as you go to SI, you should be straight. If they're isn't SI, then read the material after you have taken good notes, Test are pretty much verbatim to the reveiews:)
Really cool professor. Her tests come straight off the review. I never went to class, and just did the review. I don't suggest doing that, but I still made it out with a B. She types her notes as she is talking, and goes pretty fast, and the notes are ALWAYS really long. Make sure to make class on movie days. They are always on the tests.
great professor. Honest. Real. You have to read alot but its college come on. Super funny and opens your mind to topics and subjects you never would think about. Inspiring teacher. I really enjoyed this class and if I could I would take another class with her in a heartbeat.
Hmmm, she's pretty hot. Good class, take it.
The only easier way to get an A would be if she took your exam for you.
very boring
Shes strickt, but if you follow what she says you wont have a problem. DO NOT use your phone in class or she might make you leave. I reccomend bringing your comp because writing those notes is exhausting. Study her reviews and attend class and youll be fine. SI sessions help alot aswell. :)
She's not that easy but show some effort and show up for the quizzes, and read and you'll be good. Take home essays for midterm and final. An A is definitely attainable with a little effort.
She wants you to graduate because you pay for her retirement. She is a good teacher that keeps things interesting. She has a lot of things to teach but help narrow the focus for tests. Stay current and the tests will be a breeze.
Whoever keeps saying that she is difficult, please grow up and go to class for once! Ms. Navarro is very nice and always have the time for you. Classes are mandatory and that notes will not be on BB. Tests can be fairly easy if you attend every class and S.I. session. I made an A just by doing that. I promise you that it is attainable with efforts.
One of the BEST professors at UTSA. It's really an easy class even if you don't do all the readings just go to class and listen to the lectures, you'll do well. She enjoys when students give their opinions & debate, so don't be afraid. She's also extremely helpful & approachable. Really engaging professor that's open to changing up her approach
Took summer course, so class flew by. Class was super easy. I enjoyed her teaching because she related the things we were learning about to different aspects of our lives. Gave extracredit. The tests were much like the reviews she gave out in class and also covered movies that we would watch in class or on our own. Overall great class and teacher .
Best professor ever. Teaches in a fun and interactive manner and always answers questions. Makes learning fun, easy and enjoyable.
Great teacher, shes hilarious, keeps class interesting with discussions and makes the class really easy. Extra credit for every test. One of my favorite teachers ive ever had for sure.
Wonderful professor!!! The reviews are what's on the test. She s funny, lively, entertaining, and a great professor to have. Wish I would've taken her for my first politics class. I recommend her fully!
Enjoyed her class, her lectures are far from boring, I learned a lot about Texas Politics that changed the way I think about things. Gives reviews before the test, DO THE REVIEW it helps. Not a class to miss because a lot of material comes from class notes and book. enjoyed class, best politics class in my opinion at UTSA.
The teacher is great; very kind, funny, and understanding. That being said, the reviews are terrible! They are always long but every time I did the review I still got a terrible grade. Her reviews do not help at all, and the notes are all from the book that if you wanted to you could just skip class and read the book.
She is an AMAZING teacher personality wise, but the reviews for the test are terrible they barely help at all, and I went to class every day for notes which barely helped towards the reviews at all. She expects all of us to do amazing but she herself is not easy. I always studied but it never helped and I barely passed. I do not recommend her.
Dr. Navarro is a wonderful person whos main objective is to educate the public of the world we live in. She opened my eyes to numerous issues that are not only important but also guided me to exercise my role in the development process. The reviews are awesome. Participate in class and get involved and you'll do great! love love love this class
This professor's lectures are extremely interactive and make you think. Her notes are fairly short and she spends most of the class talking about local issues. there are many opportunities for extra credit with the in class videos. I would take this class again although the tests are extremely tough I really enjoyed the professor
Dr. Navarro's awesome. Not much of a politics person but she motivated me to learn. Tough grader but she's willing to help you, but you have to communicate with her to get the help you want. Read before class because she gives quizzes on the material on certain days. And PARTICIPATE. Really enjoyed being in her class. I'd take her again:)
If you're a politics major, take Dr. Navarro. She is extremely smart and helpful. I bombed my midterm and she gave me a second chance! Be ready to read at least 4 papers a week but most are research so you can just read the conclusion of each. Class is highly interactive and never boring. Would take her over and over again and recommend to anyone
I took Texas Politics with her and her lectures were interesting sometimes but there was no point in attending class. There were three online test and she gave out a review before every test. The answers to the test and review can be found in the book or online.
Had Professor Navarro for Texas Politics and Society. She had four tests only, so don't mess up. The final is a combination of the previous tests. She was easy to understand and likes class participation in discussions, but you won't learn much from those, it's just entertaining. Never used the book, just quizlet reviews. She is super hot too!
I honestly hate politics so this class was a drag but the professor made it less of a drag. She uses top hat for attendance so you should go to class. All tests are online which she gives reviews for. Weekly blackboard quizzes which consists of 5 quizzes. She isn't a bad teacher and finishes her lectures before the class let out time.
This class is a requirement for me, and I was not sure if it would be interesting. Dr. Navarro seems very passionate about her teaching and loves interaction, so be prepared for that. I think she was fair, and the class was certainly nowhere near as bad as I would have expected. I would probably take her again and again if I could...
I was a little nervous at first, but this class was well worth taking. The class is very interesting and I was a little nervous about her being a tough grader but she is fair. Come to class and do your work and you will be ok. I have been here for a few years and Dr. Navarro is one of my favorite profs.! I'd most certainly recommend taking her.
Amazing professor. Lectures were entertaining and engaging. She really tells it like it is - makes you think about politics in 2017. I loved coming to class. Her tests were very easy; taken online outside of class, so you can have your notes out and book. Several Extra Credit opportunities as well. What the college experience is all about. LOVE
Super entertaining lectures and understandable. There are short quizzes throughout the semester but based on whatever she is lecturing at the time. I highly recommend her! Tests are based on the reviews.
Dr. Navarro is one of the best professors I've had at UTSA. Politics is hard to understand, but she makes it so easy and interesting. If you go to class, complete your quizzes and do your reviews, it's an easy A. She can't make the class any easier. I would definitely recommend her! She's also very interactive. She actually learned students' names.
Professor Navarro is awesome! She never fails to make her students get engaged. She loves it when students participate. She gives EC if ppl leave during class. Has an EC video. She doesn't post her lectures online, so go to class. The textbook has all the answers for exams. Exams are online, but go to class b/c it's part of your grade. I love her.
I LOVE THIS WOMAN! This is my 2nd time taking this class and she made it easy to understand! If someone walks out of class she gives u extra credit on tophat! Video assignments are given for extra credit also. her just speaker is annoying but it's worth taking her!
Honestly best prof for POL 1133, 3 exams that count for your whole grade, she'll give a good review and if you read the chapters also easy A+, extra credit it you come to class (she did it twice). Moderately engaging and really wants you to think critically. I really enjoyed the class interaction. Not boring at all in my opinion. Quizlet helps!
Dr. Navarro is honestly one of the best professors I have had at UTSA. She is good at engaging with students, and pushing people to think critically. Tests make up a majority of the grade but she gives good study guides out before each test. I would 100% recommend this professor.
Dr. N is funny and makes the lectures really interesting and makes you want to participate and always appreciates discussions during class. She is very smart and funny. The tests are all online and the reviews are really helpful. Probably the best professor for this subject, especially if it's not really your forte.
Navarro is well educated in politics, but her tests don't always line up with class notes.
Attendance mandatory, tests were easy if you take good notes and pay attention. Her lectures are interesting and I highly recommend taking her! She also offered an easy video EC that adds 5 points to your overall average. Ended up with a 103 in the class. TAKE HER.
This professor does not make politics interesting to non majors. It is hard to understand the concepts if you are a hard science major. If you are looking for a fun elective, this professor should be avoided.
Online lectures extremely boring, she just read off PowerPoint slides and often misread them as if she had no idea what she was about to read. Extremely monotone in reading her lectures, none were over 20 minutes but I often lost focus. No partial credit on blackboard discussions, you either meet the word count or you get a zero.
This was probably one of the EASIEST online classes I could ever take. Unlimited quiz attempts, easy word count discussions, but exams are all online. No final either. Just an extra credit video to add to your overall final avg. Never watched a single lecture. Seriously super easy class, nearly impossible to fail if you want my honest opinion.
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken. I did not look at homework assignments until the day they were due and never used the text book. I got above a 90 on every assignment.
Love her progressive way of teaching. Her course stayed true to being entry level, and discussions allowed you to freely say as you want and your opinions on issues without any arbitrary guidelines. Definitely a easier course that you can actually learn a good amount in.
Don't take this unless you love writing 2 pages a week and it makes you happy to guess how to do the assignment properly.
This class involves the usual upper class amount of writing. Instructions are clear. Its a fun course and Dr. N did mention she usually loves to teach this course in person, but that it is not an option at this time. The syllabus is your friend and has helped me organize my schedule for this class and other classes throughout the semester.
Dont take this professor
She's super communicative and incredibly intelligent, I definitely want to take a course of hers again in the future.
Dr. Navarro is amazing she is incredibly knowledgeable and is willing to give you the tools to think liberally and open your eyes to different perspectives. Take her class if you want to know the feminist perspective into the world of politics from 1920-2016 and beyond. I love this class, I wish I could take it again get a 100 instead of 93.
This class is fairly straightforward. All content is laid out in a weekly Blackboard post that states the chapter, quiz, and discussion post you must make each week. There are helpful Quizlets for quizzes and tests online and the discussion post is an easy 250 words. Each week you must make 2, 150-word responses to fellow classmates' posts.
Pretty easy. There are 12 modules + the final. Each module is due Sun. and it consists of a discussion and a 5 question quiz. There are 3 Exams (including "final"; all exams weigh 60% of the total grade). You have to buy the textbook because that's how you submit the quizzes, but the quizzes are pretty much all on Quizlet. Use Socratic for EXAMS.
simple and straightforward. The syllabus was precise and showed how we could communicate with her. She provides the 3 test reviews, which are basically the exams themselves. Plus discussions,12, on blackboard. Being an asynchronous class, this class is by far the best. The book and quizzes,12 were accessed through MCGRAW,you have to pay for it
Over the semester my first son was born and I missed an exam to his birth and a second due to me taking care of him in his first couple of weeks of life. I have contacted her over 5 times and not once have I received a reply or an opportunity to make up the exams I missed.
This professor was super chill and easy. Granted you do have to actually do work, but I don't think a 250-word discussion is hard to do. On top of that, you have a 5 question quiz (EASY) due every Sunday. If all professors made their class like this I would love college.
Dr. Navarros an amazing professor, I took her Women in Politics and this was her Race Wars/Racial Disparities Senior Seminar and it was easily as enjoyable and thought provoking. Do yourself a favor and take her, shes understanding, intelligent and lenient.
Disrespectful and difficult. I had to attend a last-minute family funeral due to the passing of my grandfather. My mind was focused on my family, and I asked for an extension on a discussion post. She did not care. Said it was "university policy" to be informed ahead of time, and told me to drop out of the course if I wanted to. Unbelievable.
The class is lots of work (to be expected in a condensed 16-week to 4-week course). I enjoyed it. Lots of reading and participation, but the topics are enjoyable. Do your work, plan accordingly and refer back to the Syllabus, and you will do fine.
I did the online asynch course, and the tests are pretty easy. Had a chapter to read each week, discussion board, and a quiz but the quiz was like 5-7 question and had 2 attempts. She was very nice when I did talk to her. Do the work, do the test review, read the chapters and you should be fine. She does her best to make her class as easy as can be
Very easy class if you take the time to read the textbook. If you do the exam reviews, should be able to pass the exam. You can have notes while taking the exam.
Very easy class, you could literally google every without studying and get an A
The class is easy overall. Each week is the same: read chapter, take quiz, and write discussion posts. Quizzes are short with 2 attempts. However, she can be unhelpful and rude when you email her. I once asked for an exam review (she removed it from Blackboard without notice) and she replied with "I hope one of your classmates gave you the review."
The class itself was relatively easy and Professor Navarro made sure that every student had what they needed to pass. I really enjoyed this class.
Dr. Navarro is a pretty straightforward prof. Reading is long and dense but do it and make your discussion posts meet the word count, and you'll get an A+ No extra credit but she did drop several quiz grades because of confusing questions.
Firstly, this was an asynchronous online class. She is a good professor, however, she is a harsh grader. She is a stickler for the word count/page minimum. If you do ANYTHING below the number given, she will give you an automatic 0. Sometimes she'll give you a chance to redo it, other times no. Other than that, it's an easy class.
This is one of those heavy reading classes. If you take this professor for POL1133 just do your reading, weekly discussions and study for each weekly quiz and for the exams and you'll get an A. It's pretty straight forward do the works pass, don't and fail alot of college is heavy reading if you can't do that then college might not be for you.
Professor Navarro online is a great idea if you are just trying to get the class out of your way. Exams and quizzes can be taken more than once.
POL1133 with Professor Navarro was a straightforward class. The readings were dense, but doing the work and using Unstuck ai for exam prep helped me get an A. Grading was fair overall.
I am not good at politics and she made learning the topic very easy. You'd have to try and fail to actually fail this class.
I took her for texas government and she was great. She was very communicative and provided a bunch of resources. She records lectures and gives out study guides. She lets you retake exams and quizzes. Stay on top of the discussions and you will pass this class easily.
