Great prof! I didn't realize how bad the other prof was until we had her! Excellent at providing great visual examples... especially linking them to movies like Kill Bill!
I agree. I wish she had taught the entire course.
Difficult to understand this professor. Her lectures jump all over the place. She goes too fast and does not explain the concepts clearly enough. Sorry.
Sharon was awesome. Clear with good examples.
Exam questions made by students = not very intelligent; arbitrary marking system according to how she understands things and not necessarily how she explains them
This class was considered the best until she starting teaching it. Lied about the class average (she said it was 70%, but it was actually 53%). Many disgruntled students. The exam questions were created by students, people answered the questions with material from her notes but still got no marks for it.
Very Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Seems nice when teaching, but is incredibly unfair and unclear on midterms and completely unwilling to listen to student comments. Beware: she can be very rude and unprofessional to students who attempt constructive criticism. Blames the class for every mistake she makes, including very arbitrary test questions!
The worst prof at Queen's. She is a huge **** and if she is teaching the course next year - don't take it. She will ruin any interest you ever had in Cell biology. Marking scheme is very poor; very subjective and has no real basis. She should be removed from teaching immediately. I hate her.
Dr. Regan is a wonderful lecturer. She has great slides, clear examples and good explanation. She clearly has a passion for the topic and for teaching - she brings in props and makes the class interactive and fun! My only complaint - bad marking sceme. No basis and subjective. But this was her first year teaching the class, so hopefully she'll learn.
Where to begin... Possibly the most disappointing class I've taken - before she taught it, the class was very popular; she ruined it. It was a butchering of a course. In all honesty, she appeared to be poorly prepared, scattered and was generally a poor lecturer. Also, she was actively sarcastic in response to student questions. A terrible person.
Some of these reviewers must have been high when in her class...how can you possibly think she is a quality prof?? My only conclusion is that you are as deluded as she is when it comes to rating her performance. She can't teach. Period. She is a poor prof and should not be at Queen's. Go back to Carelton Reganator!
She is not really that bad. She is a good lecturer and I would say that is a fact. The midterms are a rollercoaster, though. Do not expect anything out of them but study hard. You may or may not be represented by your grade on them. It is tough to rate this prof for Bio 330.
The final was unfair and she took everything very personally (a few student complains and she hates the whole class)... it was almost disgusting when she was cheering (or screaming) on the last day of class. I did enjoy the content but she clearly hated teaching us which made the second half of the course quite unpleasant.
I used to love cell biology....but not anymore!! She ruined everything. What a awful prof. So unprofessional and unprepared. The lectures sucked, and the exams were even worse! Dont expect to get a good grade unless you kiss up to her. You wont learn anything unless you learn it by yourself outside of this course.
She lovesbiology, and was very interested in students and learning. I found her lectures well prepared, stimulating and easy to follow. Her only fault is a big one- testing. She hasn't learned how to test properly, and is not good at taking criticism. Your mark will not reflect what you learned, and it's VERY frustrating! Will be a good prof someda
This woman has no clue and doesn't give a crap about 99% of student's concerns. The worst professor at Queen's. Why is she even teaching? She's ignorantly jeopardizing our pursuit to learn.
Whoa. The amount of anger on this page is really surprizing, she is NOT the worst prof at Queen's.enthusiastic and makes sure that students know what to study. Sharon does very well for teaching a class that is not her subject. This sounds like a bunch of students that were pissed off by the essay exam because theyre not used to it.
Absolutely loved her. Although the lectures may have been boring (only because of content) she really tried hard to make the class fun. GO SEE HER IF YOU NEED HELP!!! She is extremely helpful and will steer you to excellent marks if you make the effort!!
Don't listen to the haters, She's actually a really nice person. People are just pissed off because they don't know how to write an essay exam. She is very interactive in her lectures and very helpful if you ever approach her. Great Prof!
My experience with Dr. Regan is that she knows a lot about her field of biology in terms of research, but she is poor at communicating. There are times where she comes off as snarky or mean (in class or via email) and it made her unapproachable for me. I dreaded going to class unfortunately.
She's a great prof and wants her students to do well. Her final exam is often very similar to questions given out in tutorial. No surpises. FYI 14% of my class failed, and 34% got 90+%, so it all depends on if you study the material. There is a lot to remember, but she communicates it clearly.
This was the worst prof I have ever had. She was unhelpful, marked brochure assignments completely unfairly, and it was clear that her attempt to seem caring was fake. Her marks for such an important assignment were completely random. Avoid her if you can!
I did not like her and it was clear that she did not like us either. She put on a phony smile all the time and it was clear that her attempt at pretending to care was just that - pretending. She should not be teaching, end of story.
Phenomenal professor. Genuinely cares for the success and development of her students. Makes every effort to accommodate to specific requirements. Dr. Regan is a great prof. I actively sought her classes because they were instructive, fun, and gave high grades. She does expect you to apply yourself, and if you do she will reward you in spades. Grea
Really enjoyed this class. The assignments are super helpful and if you put in the time to do them they will really improve your understanding. It's so important to go to this class, because most of the slides are just images. She tells what all of the exam questions are throughout the course. As long as you stay awake in class you'll get an A!
Fantastic prof, covers a solid amount of challenging material but uses many classes for tutorials to explain concepts. Will go over ANY concept with you one-on-one and will try her hardest to help you understand and succeed. She repeatedly tells the class the questions she asks on the midterm and the final. Overall, wonderful professor.
You either love or hate Dr. Regan. She comes off as hard-hearted and uncaring, but if you look at the way she sets up her courses, she actually really wants to see you succeed. If you take the time to talk to her and show interest, she's even more willing to help
Plan out 5 hours for each quiz to maybe get 50 % on. Assignments WILL be handed in half-assed. Midterms are easy peasy. Highly recommend course. She's also hot.
knows her stuff. clearly passionate about students gaining an understanding of the material. love her.
I can not tell you how important it is to go to class and go for her office hours. She is very very helpful and truly wants you to get an A. if you put in the effort, it is a true A. The midterm puts one off guard but the finals ie always easy breezy! I really enjoyed this class and her teachings. SH eis an amazing prof!
I did not enjoy having this professor. Yes, she told us some questions in the exams, but she never told us what she expects in an A+ answer to those questions. Personally, I felt she did not "genuinely" care for how students performed. Quizzes were more annoying than helpful. The projects were a nuisance. I'm really curious how some did well..
I took BIOL330 online in the summer and it was VERY CHALLENGING! The midterm was 4 hours long and the final was 8 hours long and both took most of the time (essay questions). Prof focused on APPLYING the information (everything was open book). She was very helpful and tried to help people succeed! Would recommend taking the in-class version though!
Very intelligent professor who you could tell meant well, but enjoyed not giving out good marks to students. She was very condescending and kept emphasizing and even pointing on the "smart" students in the class. She made me give up on this course because her tests never reflected anything we learned.
Dr. Regan is easily the worst professor I've had at Queen's thus far. The assignments were irrelevant, and the midterm focused on details not covered well in class. Little feedback was given til the end of the course. She is rude and unorganized, and it is clear that she has very little interest in the well being of her students in the class.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Get ready for a 5 hour midterm and an 8 hour exam. Might as well bend over and prepare to get taken up the %&$ if you don't visit her office hours. Honestly the worst grader. Everything is application based, but the prof provided zero feedback as to what she is looking for. STAY AWAY, TAKE BCHM218.
If you want to actually learn something that you can use in the real world, take her courses. She demands a lot but if you show up to class and listen to what she tells you will be on the exam, you'll be fine. If you're not sure how something was marked, she lets you explain it and increases your grade. Took her upper year seminar, too. Great!
Cannot say enough good things about her. Love, love, LOVE her lectures, and she really inspired and motivated me. Shocked her rating is a 3.0.
This class is crazy because its hard and not hard at the same time. Regan does a great job teaching it though.
This course had a lot of tough material but Dr. Regan ensured that students understood it. Her lectures were clear and she went over the topics multiple times until everyone understood. She is a very effective lecturer and relays information well. She truly cares about the success of her students. Overall she is an amazinf prof!!
She seems at first like she really cares about you. But then BOOM!! She gives these quizzes that are basically designed for you to mess up, they arent about concepts learned in class, its just typing letters into your computer. Seriously, how did I go from getting a 97 in grade 12 bio to an 11% on my last quiz?
KEEP AWAY! you can work hard and still fail.
This class is insane!!!!!!!! She does not give the info you need to pass let alone do well. Avoid it, SERIOUSLY. She goes back and forth on what assessments are going to contain. She did not teach us about half of what we are supposed to know by the end of first semester. SHE WAS A 4TH YEAR PROF AND DOES NOT KNOW WHAT'S REALISTIC FOR 1ST YEARS.
Regan has no concern for whether the students understand the material she teaches. Her lectures are useless and all over the place, and never cover the content that it should be covering. She tests on subjets never taught and finds students suffering enjoyable.
oh yea Dr. Regan did not figure out how the Qclicker work, and she got some nerves to decide to skip gradeing the clicker's marks, rather than taking her time to learn. I mean i did not expect putting my efforts in not skipping every clicker quiz and most importantly, my money on nothing. Not even mention the quiz she gave.
you have a better chance winning the lottery than actually doing well
Absolutely horrible. Worst instructor I have ever had. Did not teach us any relevant information in class, did not follow the curriculum, tested us on material that is completely useless and have never covered. Is generally a very rude and degrading person. Makes you feel stupid, when in reality it is her lack of teaching that causes you to fail!
Worst prof you will ever get at Queen's, even prof's who don't speak English are better. As Regan has said "if you find this course hard I didn't do anything it's all on you" - someone SAVE ME I want to pass and with her, I'm failing. "make sure you watch the supporting lecture" - her excuse on why she doesn't teach us anything
Hates her students, wants them to fail. Blames YOU for not understanding something. If you ask a question, she'll take it as a personal insult. If tenure wasn't a thing, she'd be at McDonald's.
Avoid her class!!
You might as well not even bother approaching her unless youre a walking billboard for NCBI
Blames YOU for not understanding something. STAY AWAY FROM HER CLASS.
She is horrible. I was very interested in majoring in biology until I went to her class. She doesnt follow the curriculum whatsoever because she probably thinks she is too good for it. Worst mark Ive ever had in biology because this course isnt fair for a first year course!! She should go back to forth year.
She makes so many mistakes in her questions and quizzes, it is brutal. A quiz that was worth 5% of my grade which contained 3 multiple choice questions has a typo and for that reason I got a whole question wrong worth almost 2% of my grade. She does not teach the stuff required to succeed in her course, let alone bio103 and any other bio course.
She taught our first year biology class NCBI, which is not that big of a part of the curriculum. She failed to teach us the entire unit of mitosis and meiosis and cut out 5 of the chapters we were supposed to learn which will put us back in our learning for future classes. She made the quizzes nearly impossible even if you knew what you were doing.
A lot of the people in her class did not like her teaching first year, I didn't mind her at all. Everyone else was just mad because they were not being fed free grades like they most likely had been in high school, they actually had to work to understand it themselves because thats how university works.... Overall I thought she was a great prof.
Overall, Biol 102 in itself was a heavy course with lots of information from lectures and readings. The readings were pretty boring (and lots of us didnt actually read them lol), but the lectures were interesting and you learnt all the information for exam in them. Attend class and learn NCBI by watching Dr. Regans videos to pass!
She literally prides herself on letting her students fail. avoid it her class.
Regan tried to teach us NCBI, which most people hated, and skipped genetics. This does not benefit us at all especially those who are taking upper year biology courses in the future. She seems to be very rude to students who ask questions and make us feel stupid.
Overall, Regan was a good prof. She made a lot of the material based off of NCBI which was difficult, but not impossible to understand. Her quizzes were really challenging, but she was good at describing concepts in lectures.
Many people did not like Dr. Regan simply because you need to work hard to get the grades you desire. Dr. Regan has really interesting lectures that her test and exam materials rely heavily upon. If you miss a lecture, catching up is easy to do by watching the lecture you missed ASAP. Her tests are very hard if you are behind in the course.
This was the least accessible class I've had. NCBI is very specific and as someone who is dyslexic, is basically impossible. The lectures were interesting, but Regan was dismissive and rude. In one in-class quiz, NCBI didn't work yet Regan still made us do the quiz and told us to stop complaining. I had a panic attack.
was walking into the building to lecture at she was right in front of me, so i caught up and ask about office hours snapped at me to just look on her website. it wasn't there. then in lecture a girl asked my same question i was gonna go in for and regan rolled her eyes and scoffed saying if she doesn't know that by now shes going to fail the exam
Yeah, no
Don't bother with Regan's lectures, she doesn't teach anything worth while, and her lectures contradict the answers on her tests and quizzes. If you want to do well, stick with third party sources and the textbook.
Dr. Regan has made taking BIOL 102 especially hard and stressful for me. She does not care about your perspective as a student. Expect to be quizzed on nothing you learn in her lectures or anything she teaches. Don't email with any questions, she won't listen to your side and will just try to make you feel stupid. This course overall is a joke.
She's making bio exclusively about NCBI. She laughed at me during her office hours for asking her a question about something I didn't understand.
Very difficult to pass her class. Her lectures are nothing like the quizzes she gives us. It took everyone to fail her first NCBI quiz for her to teach us what was actually going to be tested. She is not very understanding of students' personal circumstances or helpful if you have any questions in the course. Her lectures are very lengthy as well.
If adjusting to first year online wasn't hard enough then Regan's half of the course was a rude awakening for sure. I don't know why I'm compelled to learn all of the material when all of Regan's quizzes are all based upon a 10-minute supporting lecture that may or may not make sense. Avoid this professor if you can.
Her entire section seemed to be focused on NCBI. She was all over the place and did not seem to care how the students did in the course.
Dr Regan is by far the worst professor i'ave had to deal with. Her teaching is mainly based off of NCBI, which she did not teach us how to use. Her quizzes are very difficult, to the point where she herself, had to take 2 questions out of the quiz because they were too hard for our level. I would not recommend her.
i have no words.
brutal
She made this class very difficult and the quizzes were extremely hard. She based everything off NCBI which made the class overall less appealing. Would not recommend!
just.... no She doesn't care about her students and bases all of her quizzes off of NCBI which she doesn't teach us how to use. The quizzes are pretty much based on nothing you learned but a pure test of how naturally smart you are at figuring out what the hell the question is asking and how to find the answer on NCBI. AVOID IF POSSIBLE
She can't teach and is constantly making mistakes. The amount of focus on NCBI is beyond frustrating. At this point, you're not learning biology, you're learning how to read numbers and graphs from a website. If on a weekly basis the whole class is failing quizzes, its probably not the student's fault, but rather the incompetence of the prof.
Regan is the absolute worst professor to ever walk this earth. I have never had such a passive and rude teacher in my whole life. Adjusting to online classes was hard enough, Regan took it upon herself to make it 100x worse. She gave no direction on any course material and didn't care about her students whatsoever. I hope I never see her ever again
Avoid this prof.
I do not like this professor like most students who take her courses
I keep seeing Reddit posts & made an account on this site specifically to say SHE IS NOT AN INDICATION OF HOW YOUR TIME AT QUEEN'S WILL BE! I graduated years ago. She is hands down the worst prof I had due to her attitude. Even back then she pointed at students in lecture screaming "youre going to fail!" It makes me sick to see that shes still here
Uncaring prof. Will literally laugh in your face as you ask for help. The worst prof I've ever seen at Queen's.
She is the worst prof I've experiences thus far at Queens. I used to love biology but she ruined it for me. She is extremely rude and passive aggressive. Her lectures are long and often have little to do with the tests.
I am unsure why everyone dislikes her, I find her lectures very engaging and informative. She delivers information in an easy and understandable way. Solid prof so far to be honest
she is terrible. She legit posted one quiz a full day late. She also is just terrible
She is so disorganized and constantly making mistakes in her lecture slides. She pushes back office hours and lecture quizzes the day before or day of, and clearly does not value her student's time. She is constantly talking about NCBI, even when it is irrelevant to class content. I was enjoying this class until she took over and became the prof.
Unacceptable. There are countless experiences I could go into detailing the many gripes I have with this prof. She has no respect for students, willingly and gleefully telling us that if we are struggling, we should drop the course. She makes many errors in her quizzes, lectures, and assessments. There is no excuse for this lack of professionalism.
She needs a proofreader since the majority of the time spent test-taking is just trying to figure out what the typos are supposed to say. Tests are always late being released either last minute (the day before) or are removed and reposted. No respect for students' time. All lectures are the ones from 2020, the titles weren't even changed
Unprofessional to the point of being an embarrassment when you compare her to her colleagues. There are outstanding professors at Queen's and Regan is a strike on the bio dept's reputation. We were in very capable hands with diCenzo until Regan stepped in. Avoid if you can, although I don't know if that's possible with first year.
Astronomically unprofessional. Very disrespectful to students who dont understand the material right away. Her lectures make absolutely no sense and if you try to read the transcripts good luck they look like a toddler wrote them. She babbles on in lectures and there is absolutely no structure so they are incredibly hard to follow worst prof ever
Drop the course while you can.
Worst class ive ever take. If you have any will left to live do not take this class. You wont do well, so dont try.
The quizzes are full of mistakes and the questions are often extremely confusing. Good luck to anyone who decides to take this class.
So unorganized. Avoid this class at all costs
Everything goes downhill once she introduces you to NCBI. Quizzes are disorganized: they were usually released 1-2 days after when they were supposed to be, there were tons of typos on one, and more than half of the questions tend to be related to NCBI rather than the material covered in the lectures. It feels impossible to do well in this course.
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. She was constantly disorganized and made continuous mistakes in our tests/quizzes, then proceeded to blame us for doing bad. Our final lecture quiz was so awful that the class average was a 37%.
Dr. Regan is a tough prof. I think that students are fed up with the disorganization that has been presented in BIOL 102. NCBI is relied on heavily and is a struggle to learn. She does not try to help students understand it as well. It is impossible to avoid this class if you are going into a science-based degree but if you can AVOID IT.
Unprofessional and unorganized. Would not recommend.
Lmao Regan is not good at her job. I love biology but I genuinely would rather swallow a fork than take this class again.
Honestly I really liked Dr. Regan. She was super thorough in her lectures and if anyone misunderstood something and asked her to go into more detail with it, she always would! Her tests are hard, but I think she only really gets hate from the people just not willing to put in enough effort.
She should've stuck with the plants cuz she's a terrible teacher.
Cant spell, typos on every quiz and final exam, has a box at the end of her exam for any mistakes you found, disorganized online, talks too much in videos that could be 10 minutes, coughs into mic
The course went downhill as soon as Prof Regan took over. She focuses a lot on NCBI but then only had about 5 questions on the exam about it. Constantly has errors in her quizzes and lectures. Expect your grade to drop when she takes over.
Dr. Regan is a great professor who is easy to listen to and passionate about teaching. Most of the poor reviews are since Regan's half was very application based, so you would not get an A by memorizing all of the lecture slides. All of her quiz & exam questions were almost identical to the assigned practice, which most students never touched.
1 yes there were typos on the quiz but she did tell us exactly which genes to use many times in lectures. 2 if you did the practice WHICH GOES OVER QUESTIONS STEP BY STEP you would not have done poorly on the quizzes. This section is full of ontario kids whining because this isn't highschool review and they have to study now that they're in person
I took this class last year and gave Regan the benefit of the doubt since everything was switched to online. However, after having classes switched online in second year, I realized how horrid she really was. Disorganized lectures, rude responses, and quizzes in which she NEVER explained. Terrible prof, do not recommend in the slightest.
We never had a quiz or exam without mistakes on it, it created so much unnecessary stress. She was always pushing quizzes into the next week which really disrupted my schedule and put me behind in other courses. She offered little to no sympathy to students.
The worst structured class I've ever taken. There was an EXCESSIVE amount of unorganized lecure videos on top of the in person lectures. I found myself looking for other resources beyond what the prof provided in order to have an understanding of the concepts. Prof was extremely unporfessional as many mistakes were made througout the class and EXAM
A lot of people did not like her, but she was the best professor I have had compared to other Biology professors. Everyone hated this course becuase it involved problem solving and actual understanding of DNA instead of memorization and commanding F through the transcripts. Some students failed, and that was on them not the profs fault.
I cannot stress this enough. Do not take this course if she happens to be your professor. She is so unorganized with her lectures and takes so long explaining a concept, overcomplicating it, when it should only take ten minutes. She is demeaning and tells us that "it's not too late to drop the class". This isn't tough love. It's just disrespect.
expects you to know everything and doesn't explain in depth at all, her lecture quizzes were the worst.
She is very passionate about biology but is pretty disorganized and not the best at communicating or relating to her students
Wasn't as horrible as everyone made her seem, but she was very annoying with the amount of errors in her quizzes and her marks never added up. She taught the content well, but her quizzes were quite stupid and a waste of time as most were NCBI based.
Dr Regan does not explain things clearly and makes many mistakes on the lecture quizzes. She came to an exam review session without a plan and re read the lecture slides from previous weeks. During lectures she was reading the transcript from recorded videos. Is not made available to students all the time and does not explain concepts clearly.
worse than people say she is. completely unorganized and gives you like 6-7 videos to watch a week, spends too much time rambling, Lecture quizzes are not like the content she teaches, and the number of mistakes in them is unbelievable. be prepared to teach this half of the course to yourself because she is no help.
She has a bit of "office hour" supremacy because she pretty much goes on for 10 minutes at the start of lectures saying that "her people" who go to office hours are the ones that really care and the rest are just not as hard working. Her lecture quizzes are not terrible as there was lots of practice given, but she is just not very friendly.
As long as you watch the recorded lectures, it shouldn't be hard. I made the mistake of procrastinating and leaving watching the videos to the end, but that was a mistake! When exam time approached and I finally watched the videos, it turned out not to be so bad! :) She is also accessible outside class and I found asking her really helpful!
Dr Regan is my hero! She has so much knowledge and is a bundle of joy, kinda like excited electrons! She is very organized and is the best teacher in town! I am definitely a big Regan fan and would love to her teach more biology to all the students. Dont listen to the other reviews, she rocks!!
Sharon Regan is very disorganized and stressed me out the entire semester. She constantly made mistakes on quizzes, lessons, videos, and even the final exam. I took this class because I like bio, but I don't anymore. I was always confused about what lectures I needed to complete, because she would would post so many,
To be honest, the actual content that she taught wasn't too hard. That being said, the pure amount of mistakes made was beyond stupid (she gave wrong answers in the homework, didn't provide the right answer's for quizzes, etc). I genuinely don't know how she is still teaching and honestly believe she should be looked into by the school. STAY AWAY!
As soon as BIOL 102 switched from Di Cenzo to Regan everything went downhill..... Prepare to want to cry every time you open NCBI.
Hard class but very interesting and she cares about what she does. She is a great teacher but the concepts are hard so ppl take it out on the profs.
DROP THIS CLASS WHILE YOU CAN!!! constantly makes errors, to the point she made errors on the final exam, she wastes student's time by making them look for an answer that doesn't even exist, she always encourages students to come to her office during hours and then proceeds to call students incompetent.
Overall, she was super lively and kind and provided so many resources to really understand the content. Everything we were tested on was not a surprise and it was really straightforward. There were a lot of mistakes on quizzes, but personally i feel like she made up for it by explaining how to do each concept, and student hours were very helpful.
Wouldn't be surprised to find her in a Walmart uniform in a month
Dr. Regan is highly disorganized and her online lectures are not helpful at all. The only possible way of learning anything from her is to go to her office hours. One other thing, all the lecture quizzes and even the final exam had mistakes which made me question my whole approach, raising my anxiety level to taq polymerase levels.
You will lose all of your passion for biology after having Sharon Regan. Every video and explanation is unclear, you will be stressed, it will be bad, beware.
The content isn't even difficult the problem is her inconsistency with the way she writes her tests. She uses vague terms which can be interpreted differently and has a bunch of mistakes in the quizzes as well. Look over your quizzes VERY CAREFULLY right after its graded to check for mistakes. Made the mistake of not doing this, couldn't getregrade
The second half of biol102 is unnecessarily confusing and complicated because of Dr. Regan's hectic and inconsistent teaching. Her video lectures are non-informative, to say the least, and are a waste of your time. Her quizzes are ambiguous and complex and are plagued by typos and mistakes which make you regret taking biol102. Avoid at all costs.
her lecture quizzes make no sense. ho doesn't know how to word the questions properly. be ready to go from a 100 on every quiz to a 70.
she would forget to post lecture slides and pre-lecture videos until the last minute and then when students asked her to post them she would complain and blame/demean the students.
She blabs and doodles all class. Makes no sense.
Dr. Regan's lecturing style is very repetitive. She repeats concepts that are very important to a good understanding of the course, and solidifies the material very effectively, especially in long term active recall. Her recorded lectures are mind-numbingly boring, but they are very helpful to gain an deep understanding. She's not that bad.
No one likes her. So confusing and she seems like she's learning with us. Like she almost doesn't know what she's talking about.
This was the most frustrating professor I have ever met in my academic life. She teaches one of the most difficult sections in BIOL102, while simultaneously being unable to form a clear and coherent sentence half the time. Test questions are vague and filled with errors, and she neglects to post lectures&transcripts unless she is pestered about it.
She's confusing, she sounds confused in her own videos. Her slides have no information on them, like if you look at them alone you won't understand. It's set up like you need to watch the video with the slides but her videos make no sense. She's talking about everything and nothing at the same time. Might be the worst teacher at Queen's.
She is the most disorganized prof I've had, be prepared to teach yourself her half of BIOL 102. Her lectures and lecture videos are all over the place and there is often mistakes on tests/quizzes.
Not a great prof
She cancelled the drop chance of BIOL 102 quiz. That's quite terrible.
Genuinely don't understand how she still works here. Her lectures were boring and didn't help my learning AT ALL. She sneezed in the middle of a recorded lecture and it sounded like her computer exploded. Every week was like 1.5 hours worth of content outside of class + DSMs + quizzes. #boycottregan2k23.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH REGAN! I took biol102 as an elective and unless you fully understand bio at an advanced level, Regan does not adequately teach the material. If you want to ask her a question...prepare to be embarrassed and feel horrible about yourself. especially if you try to correct something on her slides.
She was consistently disorganized, making it difficult to follow her teaching. Her explanations were confusing and she struggled to simplify basic concepts. Additionally, her quizzes were filled with mistakes, undermining their accuracy. I strongly advise against taking her courses unless you're prepared for a frustrating learning experience.
Truly some of the worst organization skills known to mankind. Cares about what she does but makes mistakes everywhere, even on quizzes and exams. Her OnQ (where course material is posted) is a complete mess and she dumps random resources that aren't helpful in there.
Worst prof at Queen's
Terrible, only one way to describe her teaching. Countless mistakes in lectures, quizzes, and online videos while still managing to make the most simple concepts confusing, didn't even know that was possible... Very disorganized with content provided on Onq with multiple useless resources and scattered information. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
I was put off by Dr. Regan's reviews for this class initially, but with time it has become evident that Dr. Regan really wants students to understand and learn to apply her content. Went over several revisions, and office hours are a must attend. What you get from this class heavily depends on how much you engage with profs and content !
Very content heavy course ! Get ready to read the textbook (which is pretty good). Dr. Regan does a great job teaching applications of biotech and molecular bio. You need to read the textbook to cover content which Dr Regan doesn't cover in class. Loved her enthusiasm towards students, albeit some areas of improvement. Good Luck !
All around terrible. Completely disorganized, you will have to siphon through a bunch of useless material to get to what actually matters. Has consistently made errors and typos on final exams for YEARS. not to mention condescending. 0/10. Never want her again. This course was mandatory so get ready if you must take it.
Going to lectures was useless, many typos on lecture quizzes and even on the final exam. It sounded like she never knew what she was talking about and did not fit any student's learning style.
Every negative review of Dr Regan on this website is true. Her inconsistent lecturing combined with her lack of organizational skills makes for a non enjoyable experience. Her lecture quizzes are riddled with errors and if you thought that wasn't bad enough the final exam itself is filled with typos and spelling mistakes. Avoid at all costs
Although she was not as awful as all the reviews said, all her content, including the final exam are riddled with mistakes. Her recorded lectures are excessively long and slow paced. She repeats information over and over. The content is not complicated but she makes it seem so. Cannot say I gained much, if anything, from her portion of BIOL102.
She makes mistakes on the quizzes and final exams which costs you marks. She removes those questions and the exam questions are then worth more.
Errors on every quiz and the final exam. You'd think that after teaching the class for 20 years she'd know how to proofread but apparently not.
Absolutely upsetting how the course was araanged
her part of the content was really easy but she taught it in such a confusing way that it messed everyone up. She will never use her slides and she just draws random crooked lines all lecture. AND her lectures repeated the same 3 things over and over for months, your best bet is to do the DSM's and just learn it yourself.
Don't know why she receives so much hate, I LOVED HER. Super to the point, clear about what she wants and literally TELLS you how to succeed in her course. Found her portion of the exam much easier than DiCenzo's. My absolute tip for success: please go to lectures! and ask her once you don't understand a concept, she wants you to succeed!
She severely lacks organisation and proofreading skills her portion of BIOL 102 was a mess. Her lectures were also pretty bad... she would introduce a concept, explain one third of it, introduce another, re-explain the one-third, introduce another, explain the second third, and then we had to read about the last third. Below average overall.
Took bio for fun first year, BIG MISTAKE. I realized very quickly that going to her lectures were useless as her online lectures was where most of the content was taught. Her lectures consisted of mostly high school level biology content. She was also very unhelpful in reviewing for the exam. Overall bad experience having her as my prof.
I'd rather be at a Diddy Party than in class
Professor Regan's BIO102 class can be a mixed bag. While her lectures can sometimes feel repetitive, engaging with the content and using helpful study tools like Unstuck AI can lead to success. Attendance is a must, but the course material, though not overly difficult, requires focus and self-discipline.
every single bad thing you hear about Regan is unfortunately true. I truly didn't think that such awful profs existed, but boy was I wrong. Please avoid at all costs, although it's likely required to have her to take this course.
Horrible testing
Bring back George
she gets a lot of hate for no reason; she is an amazing professor with great knowledge of everything. she gives a lot of details on every portion and teaches differently for every style. She is very versatile.
She is a very good teacher, she brought back my love and spark for bio after that George guy ruined everything. Don't you dare bring back George he is so boring and reads solely off the slides he was the biggest waste of time. Regan our performs him in every way. She is so good and she makes sense if you're smart enough to understand.
I DO NOT recommend taking her classes, if you have the option to take a Biology course with another professor, I highly recommend doing so. She should not be a professor, she hates her job and, therefore takes it out on her students, creating a negative aura and an unhealthy classroom environment.
Echoing most other reviews but she is awful. Her tests are riddled with mistakes, her lectures are messy and ridiculously difficult to follow, and her OnQ is a mess with unnecessary resources and pre-recorded videos that are long and unclear. I haven't learned anything from her and have had to teach myself all the material. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
You were so bad I wanna give you a zero, but thats not possible so I give u..... a one
I may as well give my tuition money to the youtube channels who explain the concepts 100000 times better than her.
Enjoyed her section of BIO 102 much more. Very kind woman who does her best to understand where you're having difficulty and helps. Her online lectures are heavy but encourage understanding, in person lectures definitely go because there is a lot of problem solving in this course related to gene sequences and she goes over in person. Watch sup vids
She was so much better than diCenzo in my opinion for BIOL102. She taught the content well and her portion of the exam was imo, easier the diCenzo half. Although the content is heavy so just pay attention in class and watch her pre-recorded lectures and you will be good for the final. Best way to study for her half is to understand all the content.
I don't understand the Regan slander. She spends so much time on every concept, making them impossible not to understand. She also TELLS you exactly what's exam and gives you specific advice for how to study. Her lecture slides are terrible and she does make errors in the lecture quizzes, but this just led to me getting a higher grade on them.
Not great, but not good either. Made a ton of errors that brought my overall grade down. Also made the material a lot more complex than it needed to be, which ended up confusing her and the students simultaneously. If you don't need this course... Do. Not. Take. It.
I actually liked her lectures. She was super engaging, just used the slides for diagrams and explained everything thoroughly. She basically told us what was on every quiz/exam. Her online lectures were super long and redundant, her slides were messy and disorganized, and she made mistakes in her test questions, but enjoyed her in-person lectures.
literally the same as so many other reviews. overcomplicates everything to where not only her students are confused, but she is as well. she tries quite hard for her students (cute lego diagrams!) but constantly makes mistakes on quizzes and doesn't stop yapping in her online lectures (what could be a 20 minute video is drawn out to 40-70 minutes)
old and possibly dyslexic and her entire content was a bunch of letters, lowk once u figure it out its chill tho
She was a wonderful professor! I actually did better in Dr. Regan's section of the course. She was so approachable and sweet. She actually takes the time after class to sit with you and explain everything to you in detail. I would definitely take her courses again.
Online recorded lectures were long (2-3 lectures week with each being almost an hour in length towards the end of the course) and felt really unorganized. She was VERY clear on what she wanted us to know for quizzes and the exam but she had a tendency to over explain concepts confusing students rather than helping. Would give her a 2.5 if i could.
If you enter this class without a religion, pick one and start praying. I also hope you like using plastic bricks to learn the central dogma. The only reason I did any good was thanks to my high school teachers.
The most aggressive professor i met
the only thing I really didn't like about her was that there were always mistakes in her quizzes which was just annoying. I honestly found that she explained things pretty well and was very approachable if you didn't get something. lowkey doesn't deserve the hate
Really difficult to follow and understand lectures. There is little to no writing on lecture slides, and pre recorded lectures amounted to more than 2 hours per week on top of in person lectures
She starts off strong but quickly becomes the most disorganized professor I have ever had, her lecture slides are usually posted late online if they're posted at all and are labelled in such a disorganized manner you can't find anything on onQ. Pray you have the will to get through her hour-long prerecorded lectures; in-person lectures are trash.
She is completely disorganized in every aspect. Her materials are impossible to find on OnQ, and even when you do find them, they make no sense. Her prerecorded lectures are difficult to sit through, and her in-person lectures are somehow even worse. Additionally, her quizzes are unorganized and challenging to learn from if you make a mistake.
very unorganized, and doesn't know what's happening when. lectures are all over place and pre-recorded don't match the in person lectures.
no words I just wanna curse about this bad prof but I dont wanna get removed so you get it just such a horrible prof
She is confusing, quizzes make no sense, talks too much and walks around a lot but she seems nice
One of the worst professors I've ever had. The lectures make the content even more confusing and she's awful at explaining the diagrams on the slides. Impossible to take notes from.
She has no idea what is going on. The course delivery is split between prerecorded lectures and in-person lectures. Her organization within the prerecorded lectures is inexistent, OnQ is a mess, she talks incredibly slow, meaning her prerecorded lectures take hours to watch. Often makes mistakes in the in-person lectures and graded quizzes as well.
very nice lady but her lectures are impossible to take notes during. her slides are disorganized and have zero words on them and she explains the diagrams on them very messily and unclear. also posts tons of pre-recorded stuff but in such. confusing format its impossible to tell what slideshow/chapter we're on.
While not the best prof, she definitely doesn't deserve the hate she is getting. Her prerecorded lectures are decent, and cover everything you would need to know for tests. Her in person lectures are repetitive and not very helpful. They're disorganized and mainly diagrams. Despite this, her portion of the class is not hard, and tests are fair.
So horrible, material is not related to the course, can't explain anything i wish i could drop asap.
slides are so disorganized and the lectures and prelectures are a mess. she genuinely sucks at explaining but its clear shes trying to be helpful. her slides have little to no text on them so forget about taking any notes. she seems nice tho
Much preferred previous prof to her. Switched after first quarter and it was my downfall. She is disorganized and talks about things unrelated to tested materials. So unorganized I could barely understand what was going on and due to this issue was hard to take notes. 10/10 do not recommend. Yates was 1000x better. she is nice though...
Literally the most disorganized teacher ever. She scribbles on the board and calls it lecture slides. It's really hard to understand whats going on. I found Susan Yates 1000x better. She will update the slides after class because she made a mistake. Her quizzes are also super hard. I have nothing nice to say.
Her pre lectures are hours long I dont think she knows how to edit. They could be condensed to like 20 minutes and she just over explains so much to the point where things are more confusing. She put out this forum where students could ask clarifying questions, so someone did, and she just responded with "i already answered this in class". not good
confusing lectures that make no sense, says so much yet nothing at the same time. STILL hasn't figured out technology in the year 2025.
Night and day difference between her and Dr. Yates. Regan had messy lectures and the class average on quizzes may have gone down by 20% during her half of the course.
Very messy lectures and extremely hard quizzes compared to yates first half of the course.
Everyone is over hating. Sometimes, her lecture slides look disorganized, but, if you attend and pay attention to lectures it's not a big deal. Her tests are more challenging than Dr. Yates, but only because they are more application based. If you put in the effort, it's easy to get a good grade and she always goes over important concepts twice.
DISGUTING LECTURE
She talks as if she is confused about her own material. Her pre-lectures are often very different than what she teaches in class, her lecture quizzes are hard to even pass, and she is very inefficient when teaching, and when she repeats difficult topics, it seems as though she's teaching something completely different. 0/10 r.i.p. my bio grade :(
terrible prof avoid at all costs
could be better could be worse
just wrote the exam. get me outttt god save meee
Don't go to the lectures just watch the pre recorded videos. Lectures are pointless.
just watch the recorded/prerecorded lectures because going all the way to west is a waste of your time. she takes so long talking about the same thing and acts as if she's unclear about what she's saying. there's no reason to be spending 5 weeks on the same thing. the lecture quizzes aren't bad, just make sure you know what you're doing before hand
very uncooperative and does not respond well during office hours or emails, making you feel unintelligent. her online slides were a mess and unorganized.
People sometimes don't like her but I see her as a nice lady, she kind of looks like my grandma so maybe i am biased.
The lectures were very repetitive and unorganized. It was very hard to navigate her portion of the course due to the lack of organizations. Her quizzes were hard but not unreasonably so, and her portion of the final exam was very much as expected. She makes a lot of mistakes on quizzes and even the final which was very frustrating.
