English is one of my strongest subjects and usually love it. After taking this teacher i feel the complete opposite. Her papers are impossible to get good grades on. She grades so unfairly. Do yourself a favor and take this course with someone better.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She grades her papers as if I'm a PhD in English. It is very hard if not impossible to get a good grade in her class and on papers. BEWARE
Awful. It's close to impossible to make a decent grade on an essay. She grades extremely hard. Take someone else if you can.
Grades like she is teaching a class that is mastering in English. DO NOT TAKE
Do yourself a favor and do not take this class!!!!!!
Brutal class. One of THE toughest teachers I have ever had. Picks apart your papers, and your papers are pretty much your entire grade.
She will sometimes humiliate you in class. Essay gradings are brutal makes awful comments on your papers! She will not teach you she expects you to know everything. Don't take her! even if you turn all your work in she will try to fail you
Extremely tough grade wise, avoid if possible. She grades as if you are supposed to have a doctorate, talks to you like you're stupid.
Really nice and knows her stuff. Yeah, she grades tough, but she lets you revise work in the end, and you actually learn a lot. I made an A, and signed up for her again next semester. Great teacher - totally worthwhile.
Intimidating at first, but really nice and helpful. Very passionate about teaching and wants everyone to do the best they can. If you have questions, just talk to her about them. Enjoyed the class - great teacher :)
I thought English was my strongest subject until I took this class. Definitely a humbling experience, but in a good way. She grades tough but only because she wants you to do the best you can. She's very helpful and is always willing to meet with people after class.
This professor is a walking nightmare! Her judgmental comments and constant criticism of you and your work is unprofessional. The essay grades are extremely brutal and she has a way of making you feel incompetent. I wish I had read these reviews before I enrolled with her.
Dr. Rigler was my favorite professor as a freshman this year. She is really organized and makes assignments and expectations clear. She's easy to talk to and is always helpful. I had two classes with her this year and would take another one if she taught it.
Dr. Rigler is a really good teacher. She actually went over grammar and writing, which is something my 1101 professor did not even do. I learned a lot in this class.
I would definitely recommend Dr. Rigler. She really cares about you as a person (unlike some profs) and she's always friendly and easy to talk to. She's also really organized and gives you a lot of practice and examples so you can do well on your papers.
Take Dr. Rigler if you want to be a better writer. She's really knowledgeable, and I improved a lot. I thought she was going to be tough, but she didn't seem that way to me.
To pass with Dr. Rigler, you just have to put lots of time into your paper. Proofreading and editing are key! TURN IN YOUR PAPER ON TIME or early if you can! She tells you exactly what she expects and sticks to it. I have yet to make anything below an A with her. I am planning on taking her next semester.
Dr. Rigler is an excellent English professor! She clearly wants her students to learn great writing skills for her class and other classes. She goes over everything in detail, especially tough grammar and spelling rules. She's readily available to help on an individual basis and is friendly and courteous. She's very fair.
My favorite professor at UNG. She really wants her students to learn, and she is always there if you need help. It's not any easy class, and you really have to try but I'v learned so much. I've taken her for 1101 and 1102 and would take another class if she offered it. She gives great feedback on papers and helps you if you don't understand.
Stay away nursing students. Paper, papers and more papers. GPA will suffer.
Dr. Rigler's class was a humbling experience. Stick to her rubrics and do well, stray form them and suffer!
Professor Rigler is a great professor. As long as you do your work and arrive to class on time, you should be golden.
Dr. Rigler was a very helpful professor! Anytime you ask for help, she is there for you. I would recommend her to anyone! Especially if you want to be knowledgeable in writing.
papers, papers, and more papers. hardest grader ive ever experienced. everyone in my class got 60's on almost every paper.
Avoid at all cost, you will only learn how great she is.
Hard grader and talks about doing yoga, gross!
Just try to avoid her at all cost. Do not even think about taken her for anything. If you are a English major by all means take her she will help you in the long run.
Dr. Rigler is extremely knowledgeable and professional. She maintains high standards, but she will definitely work with you to help you meet those standards - very helpful. I highly recommend her class.
I had Dr. Rigler for two classes. Excellent teacher - one of the best.
Great teacher. Gives plenty of opportunities to make an A.
She is a really nice person, but she grades really hard. If you are bad at grammar then this class will be hard for you. ASK HER FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT!!!! She likes to help you with what you have trouble with.
Dr. Rigler is awesome! She truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed! Yes, she is a tough grader but she is an english teacher so you have to expect that. 1 test. 4 papers. A chance to revise one of those papers to get a better grade. Gave an extra credit assignment. She is more than far and always willing to help! Taking her again!
She clearly defines her grading criteria, frequently offers help on papers, and gives you the chance to revise a paper to bring up your grade. I've had her twice, and I am taking her next semester. I highly recommend her!
I learned more in this English class than any previous classes. Dr. Rigler really makes you work for your grade, but my writing improved by 1000% because of her helpful feedback. Editing and proof-reading (especially grammar) are EXTREMELY important on the papers which are usually 5 pages length. Attendance is also a must. Genuinely caring teacher!
Dr. Rigler teaches her class like all of her students are seeking a major in English. All you will do is papers in her class. It was impossible to get an A in this class even after going to the writing center numerous times. Beware of the good reviews on here as they are from her so that her class volume will not drop to unemployable levels.
I've had Dr. Rigler for three semesters. Her grading is always consistent, she always tells you what she wants on assignments/papers, and her quizzes and tests aren't that difficult. I really love that she counts attendance for a grade.
Dr. Rigler made English fun this semester and she provides every opportunity for you to be successful in class.
This is was my second time taking her. In brit lit there was more reading but that was to be expected. Didn't have to do a ton of writing, only short essay type assignments and one test. I exempted the final because I had an A. She is clear on her grading, gives good feedback, and a solid teacher. I would recommend her out of all the english profs.
Her favorite thing to discuss is gender inequality, & coming from a woman I think it's a bit excessive how much she talks about it. She has a really sassy sarcastic attitude. There's an opportunity to instill a level of appreciation for what we learn, but the class dislikes it because of how poorly she presents the material. There are better profs.
Only three papers and a few assignments and quizzes, and we get to revise a paper at the end. Dr. Rigler is nice and will help you outside of class if you need it. Would take again.
Very hard grader. Very sassy women, almost feels like she's making fun of how stupid we are half the time. Very stressful class because you consistently have a paper due and knowing it will be graded so insanely hard builds a lot more stress on top of it.
She makes you feel like you do everything wrong! She judges people and wil not help you properly if you're not one of her favorite students. Avoid her at all cost!
DO NOT TAKE HER! She will drive you crazy and make you feel if college is the worst thing you have ever deicided to do! She makes you feel stupid. She will talk bad about someone's paper infront of the class. If you go to her office hours for help... goodluck! She will say how horrible your paper is infront of you
She's the worst! She makes you feel like everything you do is wrong! If you're a English as your second language student you will not do well in this class. She would not help you or have any sympathy for you.
Good professor -- gives extra help and you learn a lot. If you go to class and turn your papers in on time, you'll be fine. Definitely taking another class from her.
Great prof -- taught me how to write a good paper, which has helped me out a lot in other classes as well.
She is a tough grader, but with that being said I am more confident in my writing ability and how I convey myself as a writer. RIgler gave great feedback and was able to really help me out.
Sometimes friendly
Please love yourself and take literally any other professor available. If all the other classes are full and this is your last option, wait until next semester to take English. Rigler is by far the worst professor I have ever had the displeasure of taking. She's incredibly rude and condescending. She will ALWAYS find ways to knock your paper down.
Dr. Rigler is a great teacher. I learned more this semester than in all of high school combined.
Toughest grader I've ever had and does not care about her students she seems to be up there lecturing just for herself and waits for no one.
Dr. Rigler is the best professor I've ever had. I try to take every English course with her and intend on taking another one next year.
Tough grader, but an excellent professor. She gives amazing feedback and is a very prompt grader. Pro tip: Finish writing your paper about a week ahead of the due date and edit, edit, EDIT!
She claims she posts short happy reviews on here of herself. Beware. It was horrible.
Outstanding. Highly recommend.
Wonderful professor. She makes her expectations for the class very clear. Many students who did not excel simply did not show up.
Dr. Rigler was awesome. You actually learn from the feedback she provides, and it will definitely improve your writing skills.
She's awesome!! She will call you out in front of the class if you are late so just make a habit of getting to class before she does and she'll love you. She will help you with your papers with great feedback. She gives back rubrics so you can learn for next time. She chooses interesting topics and really cares about her students and their success!
Dr. Rigler's class will genuinely make you a better writer. She always is very specific as to what you got points off for on a paper so you can improve. If you listen to her feedback and apply it on your future papers, you can easily excel. Her class is actually enjoyable, and it got me ready for future classes where I have to write essays.
Dr. Rigler is a good teacher, but she grades incredibly tough. I would get my papers checked at the writing center by 2 people before I would submit them. But always would end up making C's on them. Didn't make any sense to me. And when you're not writing. Her classes are over pointless topics you learned already, so you can skip. Doesn't take roll
Most of the course was focused on grammar rules, which she graded very closely. Content of the papers wasn't that big of a deal, which was kind of disappointing. Be sure to edit your papers religiously to get decent grades. Overall, I learned a lot and never felt like she disliked me, was rude, or blunt.
Be sure to show up on time and attend each class because you will get an attendance grade with will be helpful if you are struggling in other areas! She is super sweet but does grade quite strictly, specifically with grammar so just be sure to proof your papers (more than once). I would take her again!!
I would never take her again. Content on papers does not matter. Will tell you you wrote a great paper and then give you a C. Only cares about grammar and nothing else
She is very tough grader when it comes to papers. She was a nice professor, it was just not an easy class. Also, she takes a grade for attendance.
Dr. Rigler is very organized. She posts everything online, and examples of EXACTLY what she wants. Dr. Rigler can be intimidating but once you get past that, she is helpful. You have four papers and several smaller assignments. If you do all of your work and do specifically what she asks, you should pass easily. Also, read the texts she assigns.
Overall, she is very clear about her expectations. She will work with you, but if you're not good at english you may have a hard time getting a good grade. She will not accept late work at all.
Dr. Rigler is probably one of the best professors at UNG. She may come off as tough at first, but if you complete the assignments and attend class you should be fine. I took 1101, 1102, and 2121 with her. An easy A would be nice, but then you're missing out on essential writing or literature techniques that you WILL need at some point. Def take her
Dr. Rigler is not only the most intelligent professor at UNG, but she is the most engaging and passionate English teacher I have ever had. She wears majestic cardigans and whips around Shakespeare quotes like the straight queen she is. Take her if you want to become a great writer and float into the sun on the wings of her sass and knowledge.
Hardest class I have ever taken in my life. You'd think she was teaching a graduate level English class based on her grading. Making above a 50 on any of her papers is almost impossible, even with the help of other professors and tutors for editing. Find another professor if you can.
Dr. Rigler is great. I've learned a lot this semester and plan to take her 1102 class next semester. Just go to class and proofread your papers! I had heard that she was a tough grader, but she's a nice person and definitely makes you a better writer.
She is incredibly clear on what she expects and will hold you to it. All papers count, even drafts. So make sure you turn in everything.
Make sure to revise the papers for days cause she will find EVERY grammar/punctuation mistake in your paper. We only had 3 papers and read the whole book of Jane Eyre and took quizzes on that. Do all extra credit when possible. I really think she just grades the grammar/punctuation mistakes, not the way you write. She can be intimidating at times.
In ENGL 1101 & 1102 with Dr. Rigler, your grade is very dependent on your essays. She makes it extremely easy to get an A if you use her feedback. I loved her class and took her for all 3 of my literatures.
In English 1101 & 1102 with Dr. Rigler, your grade is very dependent on your essays. She makes it extremely easy to get an A if you use her feedback. I loved her class and took her for all 3 of my literatures.
In ENGL 1101 & 1102 with Dr. Rigler, your final grade relies heavily on your essays. She makes it extremely easy to get an A if you use her feedback. I loved her class and took her for all 3 of my literatures.
She is straight forward with grading! She is willing to help everyone and her final is optional! Take her!
She is a very average professor. Her class was not fun, but also not a negative experience. You can take her if there is not a better professor out there.
Dr. Rigler was the toughest professor I've ever had. For an English 1101 class, she grades your papers as if you are in graduate school. I spent countless hours revising my papers, took them to the writing center for help, etc. yet I still never made above a 75 on a paper. Save yourself the heartache and tears and do NOT take her class.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. Will tell you what to do and when you fix the problem she will tell you it is still wrong. She is rude and I recall on different occasions when she would publicly embarrass some students in the class.
Dr. Rigler is a tough grader. If you go to her office hours and show willingness to learn, she helps a lot. Tests are reflective of lectures. There are lots of opportunities for grades and attendance is counted.
-is tough, but straight to the point -answers your questions thoroughly -will probably teach you more than any other ENGL1101 teacher on campus -sometimes does not respect students' styles of writing and wishes for your writing to mimic her own style
Dr. Rigler is an amazing teacher. Keep in mind that she is a English teacher, therefore this class is very hard. Lots of revising and work. Dr. Rigler is indeed a tough grader, but then a again this is English, so isn't that how it is supposed to be? She gives you lots of feedback and tells you exactly what she wants and expects. A GREAT teacher!
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Ever since day one she has been embarrassing me in front of the class. She has no respect for her students and grades your papers as if your were in graduate school. It is also impossible to communicate with her because she is nothing but rude and judge mental. Save yourself and find another professor that won't belittle you. :)
I took her for ENG 1101. She has been one of the harshest graders I have ever had. She will tell you something is wrong, but never how to fix it. She publicly embarrasses students in class and even told me I shouldn't do the final because it wouldn't bring me up a letter grade. Make sure you know MLA like the back of your hand.
Dr. Rigler was the best English prof. Ive ever had. She cares about her students and tells them she loves them. I normally dont love English, but Dr. Riglers passion for literature is contagious. 100% would take her again. Proofread very well for grammar issues, pay attention in class, participate, take notes, and youll do well! DO EXTRA CREDIT
She was the hardest English teacher Ive ever had. A super tough grader and rude to students. I failed or barely passed all my papers in her class, even though I would go to her office hours and the writing center for help and feedback. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Had her for English 1101 and she was quite awful. She grades papers way too harshly for a freshman. She also doesn't give any helpful comments on papers and stuff. English is probably my best subject and her class was something else. Highly highly recommend choosing another professor. It's not worth your time or energy to put up with her class.
Make sure you buy the book ASAP. Do extra credit. Make sure grammar is PERFECT! Like seriously. One time I had trouble in her class and she told me, "None of my other students are struggling, so you should be fine." Will humiliate you in front of peers. Nothing is ever perfect for her. The only excuse for mistakes is being stupid.
Please dont listen to the bad reviews. Dr. Rifled was the best English teacher Ive ever had. She has about 3 major papers and the final is an optional revision paper. She grades harshly on grammar and mechanics, but proofread and you should be fine. The lit. She chose to teach on was extremely interesting. Take her!
Great professor. Always quick to respond to emails and gives good feedback. If you study pronoun-antecedent rules you will pass!
There were 3 papers for this class. Prof rigler also grades SUPER heavily. If you use a word she doesnt agree with in your paper she will doc points. On 2/3 of my papers she gave me a 70/80 on the rough draft then a 60/70 on the final paper after I fixed everything she told me to take. Shes not a horrible professor but avoid her if you can
Dr.Rigler is a great english professor. She is always willing to help a student and always engages with her class. Remember to follow the rubric, avoid grammatical errors, and go over all the comments she will make on your rough draft. Many people believe Dr. Rigler is a difficult professor; however, if you listen to her advice you will do fine.
Her teaching was fine and the class wasn't difficult. My issue was she seemed standoffish all the time and it made the classroom enviorment unpleasant. Having said that the class was much easier than a high school english class.
The in-person class for Dr.Rigler is pointless. You sit there for the whole class period to answer one question. She is not afraid to call you out on things she disagrees with. There is basically only 5 grades that go into d2l for this course so it is hard to bring your grade up. She is a tough grader. Stay away if possible.
