Quirky, nice teacher. But often writes things on the board without explaining how she got there. Probably not so important to go to class if you're good at teaching yourself. Great curve though
Professor Roosevelt is useless. The only way to get a good grade in the class is to study the textbook and teach yourself. She goes way too fast over problems and her answers to questions are ambiguous. Over half the class never showed up to lecture, and the test averages were around 60%. She uses a heavy curve that helps everybody out though.
Professor Roosevelt is very helpful if you attend her office hours, but if you want to do well in the class you will need to spend a lot of time outside of class teaching yourself/practicing problems. Tests are hard and cumulative, though she curves everyone's grade.
Roosevelt really loves calculus and is always willing to help students out. Not a lot of people usually go to her office hours, so it's easy to get answers if needed. Quizzes weekly in recitation that help reinforce material/prepare for midterms. The curve is really heavy. This class was as easy as a calc 2 class gets
I think Prof. Roosevelt is clear and makes this class easy.
Hands down, best math professor I have ever had. She did a lot of problems in lecture that really helped me. I walked away from calc 1 with a D and thought I would fail calc 2. I worked my butt off and tests/hw were extremely fair. She curves each test individually based on the class. Overall excellent professor. Take her if you can!
She is so lovely and nice! She loves Calculus and is ALWAYS willing to help students. She uses a great curve that helped everybody out. Her tests are difficult, but I did better on them than I did in Single Variable Calc. I; which I gladly attribute to her great teaching!! She's truly the BEST math teacher I have ever had. I highly recommend her!!!
She is okay. The lectures are very boring and the mid-termsfinal are difficult. There are homework and quizzes that help balance out your grade. She is very willing to help her students though and she is also very nice.
Nicest Prof. I've ever had. She is very caring and very helpful. Her lectures are not the clearest, but she will take her time to make sure you understand something if asked.
Roosevelt is a really nice lady but her lectures are all over the place. Most kids never showed up to lecture because it was more confusing than anything else. Her exams are very difficult and are curved heavily which kind of makes up for everything. There are weekly quizzes but the TA's are not very clear either. Only take it if you have to
The class is nice, the exams are not. Rossevelt is pretty nice, she helps clear up things and gives you partial credit for your workings but she explains too fast. She's weirdly funny. The hw is long but easy if you watch the videos. The quizzes come straight from the hw problems so do them before recitation. I definitely recommend Ms. Roosevelt!
While she's an incredibly nice professor, her assignments and quizzes do not add up to the midterm. Worst part is, the midterm has a catastrophic weight to it. She curves though. Warning, if you've got a midterm or final in her class, you better do more than what she says.
She is very nice and willing to help you, which is always a plus. The material is pretty hard, so definitely go see her or a tutor if you don't understand it. The lectures are pretty boring and drag on forever. Most people do pretty poorly on the exams, but she has a very nice curve that evens it out.
Professor Roosevelt is very quirky and silly. I truly enjoyed her class and learned so much. This class was perfect for learning calculus with no previous background experience. Roosevelt's exams come straight from the homework and are clear. Her office hours are so helpful, she goes out of her way to help you understand.
Useless. I learned nothing in this class and had to teach myself everything. She assigns homework that is way to difficult, impossible most of the time. Avoid
Her tests are extremely difficult, the class average on the first midterm was a 51, but the curves are pretty large. You do not need to go to class, but doing the homeworks before the quiz and studying a lot before the test is a necessity.
Dr. Roosevelt is truly a great professor! She teaches you everything you need to know in lecture and the homework assignments are super helpful when it comes to the quizzes and the exams. The exams are extremely difficult but she curves them. She makes little jokes and she's hilarious (though a little quirky), Go to lecture though!
Although she is nice person, she is not a good professor. Tests are too long and tough. Problems taught in class are simple, but its all tough trig on the exams. Does not prepare you well for the exam.
Professor Roosevelt is a good teacher and explains things well. Web assign problem sets are due once a week. You take a quiz once a week in recitation and the lowest quiz is dropped. You take 2 exams and a final. She gives partial credit on tests and quizzes. Pay attention in class and go to office hours if something is unclear.
Love Roosevelt! You have to attend her lectures to pass--she does not post notes online. Her lectures are great and give you everything you need for tests/quizzes.
Love her lectures, she's very good at explaining things and her quizzes and class problems are fairly simple. Her exams on the other hand are ridiculously long and at times difficult. She does grade on curve if necessary. You have to seriously know how to apply a concept to complex problems in order to pass the tests.
Prof Roosevelt is a funny, quirky lady, and although the material is kind of boring and the class is early in the morning, she makes it more fun. However, the class is a lot of work, and her tests are very hard. Weekly quizzes+HW, 2 midterms, 1 final. Go to her office hours, she's super nice and helpful if you're having any issues.
Professor Roosevelt may seem odd to some but she is a very caring lady. Her class is so difficult because the material is very difficult. Be sure to take organized notes!! She explains everything barney style and is one of the best professors I've ever had. Learn from the TA's & go over examples in WebAssign step by step to supplement her teaching.
A lot of the reviews for Prof. Roosevelt seem too low, I found this class to be really manageable. She wasn't the most exciting lecturer but she made a lot of concepts really easy to understand. The tests were not that hard, and I am not a math person at all. Definitely take this class, she's a really caring professor and it's not hard to get an A.
Professor Roosevelt is great. She makes all concepts very clear and outlines what will be on exams. Two midterms and one final. Midterms are not cumulative, but the final is. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend going or you will miss important concepts. Lectures can be boring but overall I enjoyed the class.
Very nice person just a difficult subject. I found this class to be very hard but mainly because the subject is hard. Professor Roosevelt's lectures were clear and the TAs are available for office hours very frequently which is helpful. The main problem I came across was that I found the tests to be a lot harder than I expected so I felt unprepared
I'm terrible at math, so this class was difficult. She gets lost in her thoughts, but explains things relatively well. Her TA is very helpful bc he makes sure u comprehend topics. Even tho u can get away wo going, go! I can't emphasize enough, ASK questions! Also, practice tricky problems + go to office hrs! I wish I could go back & study better...
Roosevelt definitely has mixed reviews. She is a little crazy, but nice crazy. She really knows her stuff and is an excellent professor. And she takes time to run study sessions, and I found these were incredibly helpful. All in all, I really enjoyed her class, she is an awesome lady, and as long as you keep up with her work, the class is easy.
She is such a sweet lady. First day of class she jumps right into things and she moves through concepts pretty quickly. Its calculus so of course its hard so theres always like 50 people in her office during office hours, so try to get there early if you really want help. Make sure to practice the material during your free time.
She is very lecture heavy, says there will be a curve, but there is NO curve! She is very diffiuclt, expects everyone to have a PhD in Math. She is sweet but very tough and it is very hard for her to explain the concepts.
Professor Roosevelt is AMAZIng. I love her so much she is so nice and also just adorable. She really cares about her students. The class is easy but the final and the midterms you should study for. She is willing to help everyone and explains things so well. TAKE HER i wish she taught 1232.
Her way of teaching is so confusing and her tests are absolutely hard ! You can go in after studying for so long for an exam and still end up with a low exam grade ! There are also weekly quizzes and homework... if you can dont take her
She is very kind and patient! best math prof ever!! u will need to study for her exams tho! make sure u understand the topics every week and do the homework in advance and redo it and ask questions. this will help u on weekly quizzes and understanding the content overall. its very easy to fall behind in this class so keep up with the homework!
As someone who came in with only knowledge from Algebra II, I still found this class extremely easy. Go to lecture because she tells you what she's looking for in terms of answers. Weekly quiz where the problems come from the HW. The 2 midterms and finals were easy, make sure to go to Q&As. The only way to study is to practice.
Prof. Roosevelt was so wonderful to be a student under. She is always there for you no matter how discouraged you feel as a math student and will ALWAYS ALWAYS help you. Shes extremely kind and understanding, and was one of the only reasons I didnt give up on math. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!!! She makes the effort to get to know your name. Amazing.
Amazing teacher! She always explains if you have a question. And as long as you review the textbook and attend class, you will do great. Her midterms and finals are questions from WebAssign and quizzes, so as long as you study those, you will do fine on the midterms and final. Also, she removes the two lowest quiz scores at the end + big curve.
Roosevelt is an amazing person. She gives a curves on exams, and allows a formula sheet. However, I feel as if I didn't learn as much as I should have, because of this--but I'm a math nerd. And again, Calc 2 is hard, and you still learn a lot of material; although sometimes, its a bit unclear in class what's a proof and what you should know to do.
The tests in this class are extremely hard! EXTREMELY! she teaches the tip of the iceberg and expects you to be able to then solve everything with those basic skills. There is a quiz every Friday. Tests are way too long everyone either finishes right on time or doesn't finish. She is nice and teaches somethings well while in other things she confus
Nice and fun teacher. However she mostly writes stuff on the board (no real explanation) and expects you to do SO MUCH on the exam, which are super long. Quizzes everyday Friday help understand and with the curve you can def obtain an A level, but you have to work hard. If you're trying to understand the real math behind it, u wont get met much.
Tests are long and challenging (average is usually around a D) but there is around a 10% grade curve at the end of the semester.
She gives great lectures, where she goes through the problems and geniunly wants students to understand. BUT her exams way too hard. Too many questions for the time provided. Attending the lecture isn't mandatory, but there is a quiz every Friday recitation.
I love this prof! She is caring, and during a time of personal crisis, she comforted and accommodated to my needs. Her class is very straightforward, and she posts lecture notes, which are really easy to understand. She has quizzes every week, but half of them are take home. Do not be afraid to ask questions or go to her office hours.
Professor Roosevelt is such a sweet lady and she really wants her students to succeed. She is always willing to answer any questions and provide extra help. Shes also super fun and made online learning better just by brightening up the day a bit. She is truly a great professor and person.
Actually, this class is so hard for non-math majors, and it is not as simple as Calc1. Sharon is so sweet and her lectures are amazing. She tries to answer all the questions and solve problems for each new topic. But, her midterm, quiz, and final are very hard. In fact, she curves the final but not the midterm. Participation is non-mandatory.
Amazing human, decent lecturer. Class examples are nowhere near as difficult as quizzes/exams. Difficult transition online. Lots of homework, very tough. Way harder than Calc I, toughest class I've ever taken. Even the smartest kids struggled at the end. Recommend for Calc I, avoid for Calc II.
Professor Roosevelt gives plenty of opportunities to be graded and to know where you stand in the class. She's also very clear with her explanations of various concepts, and that understanding is made even clearer by doing the homework (which often has video explanations of how to do similar problems). Great and very doable class.
Professor Roosevelt has all the potential to be a model professor in the mathematics department, however, she falls short in a few crucial areas which have affected not only myself, but many others in my class this year. Her lack of presence outside the lecture hall and completely absurd weighting on her assignments sets students up for failure.
By far one of the worst overall experiences I have had as a student. Test and lecture material barely coincide with one another. You get basic examples in class and then highly advanced examples for tests and quizzes. Definitely one of the worst classes I have ever taken. Class structure and teaching style is an embarrassment to the school.
This class isn't difficult to pass as long as you do your homework and show up to class. Professor Roosevelt teaches the material in a way that is easy to understand. The two midterms and final make up a large portion of your final grade, but as long as you study the homework and lecture notes, you should be good to go.
Professor Roosevelt obviously knows the subject matter she teaches, however, she conveys it in a convoluted way that makes it hard for the non-mathmeticians to understand. Every recitation has a quiz and the material on them is way harder/complex than anything done in class. I don't understand the good reviews because Roosevelt should be avoided.
GO TO CLASS!!!!!!! I cannot stress enough to go to class, because then you will not fall behind. The class is lecture heavy so missing lectures is not good, make sure to watch recordings because she is an easy A if you go to class and do all the assignments. There are 2 tests and a final so make sure if you do the assignments review them.
Prof. Roosevelt has a certain way of teaching. She is a pretty fair grader, and does give a lot of partial credit when grading exams. There are weekly quizzes but as long as you do the homework you'll be fine. Tests are kinda hard but just study and you mustttt understand all of the different formulas and when/how to apply them to the question.
Yes she’s a nice lady and she knows what she’s talking about. However you can see from these reviews there are two very different kinds of people here: those good at math and those that aren’t. I have taken her classes for two semesters now and I have hated every second of it. Don’t take this class if you’re bad at math.
About 25 homework questions every week with a quiz in recitation every Friday, two midterms, one final. A decent amount of memorization required, the exam averages were in the 50%-60%s, but curved. Lectures are hard to follow and really boring but you can learn all of the material through the homework website and its resources.
Her class is very straightforward. She lectures for 1.5 hours twice a week and you have a quiz once a week and then midterms and finals. To do well, you will probably need to utilize her office hours. She explains things.OK in class but meeting with her outside of class to ask questions was essential for me. She is pretty nice, just a lot of work.
As long as you keep up with the lecture notes and understand the weekly homework, you will be fine. I never go to class and have learned everything from the lecture notes she posts. There is a short weekly quiz in recitation that mirrors the homework. She is easily accessible if you have a question about a topic/homework question.
I loved Roosevelt! Def a challenging class and sometimes she explains things poorly but the HW usually clarified things for me. Weekly quizzes were a bit annoying since we never had time to ask questions in recitation. She's really good about giving partial credit even if your final answer is wrong and exams heavily curved. Gotta put in the work.
The workload was very intense. The class moves incredibly quickly through units so I found myself relying heavily on outside materials. The exams (there are 3) are much more difficult than the quizzes and homework. This is not an easy class!
I liked Roosevelt a lot! It is definitely a difficult class that requires you to put in work and the units go by fast but as long as you keep up with the homeworks you should be fine. Weekly quizzes in recitation where I wish you could ask more questions but it honestly depends on the TA you have. Go to her office hours if you are confused too!
This class is graded on 3 exams (2 midterms and 1 final), weekly quizzes, and weekly homework. The quizzes are pretty easy to score well. The midterms are hard and not relevant to the quizzes or the homework, but they are curved, which can result in a good grade. The lectures are directly from the notes which are posted before each class.
Avoid taking this class if you have a hard time with math. The exams are extremely hard and it is evident when the class average for each exam is failing. Do the homework and practice them b/c they help a great deal when preparing for the exam! I will say though that there is a big curve at the end, just depends on class average... good luck.
Professor Roosevelt is the best math teacher for people who struggle with math or haven't taken math in a while. She provides definitions, formulas, and examples during lectures, which guide you through the homework. She's super nice, accessible, and informative about the subject. She makes deadlines clear, and helps everyone as best as she can.
GO TO CLASS. It's impossible to catch up on what you missed in lecture. She teaches very simple examples in class but the homework and tests have very complex versions of the problems, so you need to practice a LOT. ~30 homework questions and a short quiz every week.
Overall, Roosevelt wasn't bad but the tests were really hard. Quizzes every week during recitation and weekly homework sets. Note-heavy lectures so I had to teach myself how to do math on my own time. She is very understanding and easy to reach. She is really sweet but lectures are boring. She curves the final grade a lot and provides extra credit.
Prof. Roosevelt is so sweet and cares about her students. Her lectures get a bit boring and confusing, so sometimes reviewing her lecture notes or the textbook (which wasn't required) was helpful. You can get a lot of partial credit by showing that you are trying to apply the content she's taught. HW's fun (IMO), tests are hard but curved a lot.
Professor Roosevelt is very sweet and caring. She is very accessible outside of class and is willing to help her students in any way possible. I would definitely recommend taking her class if you need to take calc.
She is very nice and a great teacher, it's just a hard class (no fault of hers). Quizzes (2-3 questions) and homework each week. The 2 midterms and final are really tough, but the curve is amazing, so don't worry about your initial grade. I'm definitely not a math person, this class is just required for my major, but I'm doing fine in the class.
If you need to take a math course for whatever reason, take Math 1220/1221 with professor Roosevelt. She is extremely nice and explains topics extremely well. There is online hw due every week and a 2-3 question quiz in discussion every week. The lowest 2 quizzes are dropped. 2 big tests and a final. The tests have generous curves on them as well.
DONT TAKE if you havent taken math in a while or if you've never taken calc in high school
If you're not proficient in Calculus, I STRONGLY advise against this professor. Don't get me wrong, Professor Roosevelt is sweet but she writes on the boards SO FAST, and it's hard to keep up with what she's saying. The midterms are very long with not-so-easy questions and there are homework sets and quizzes every week. Office hours are essential.
Prof. Roosevelt is nice, and if you try you'll do well. Lectures can get kind of messy but that's kind of inevitable teaching calc to like 150 kids. There's a lot of homework, but do it before office hours and use the problems to study for the weekly quizzes. The exams are manageable if you study and she has lots of extra office hours to help.
Prof. Roosevelt's lectures are very informational. Because I paid attention to the lectures, I never had to read the textbook. The quizzes during recitation are straightforward. There were three large exams. At the end of the semester, she curves your overall grade based on the highest total number of points earned.
One of the kindest professors I've had at GW, however the exams had absolutely nothing to do with lecture and were so hard for no reason. Definitely do your homework because they can help bring up your grade and aren't too difficult
roosevelt is just a really nice person - she was always very communicative and patient when i had questions or had to email her. if you go to lecture, you probably won't need to read the textbook. do the homework to practice. ten point quiz in recitation every week and two midterms, plus a final. applies a generous curve at the end.
Professor Roosevelt is super nice and caring. Her teaching style is pretty slow with this class, lectures consist of her doing examples on the board and taking questions. The homework tends to be harder than the examples in class. Quizzes are weekly, they're only 2-5 questions so it's pretty hit or miss, the two lowest quizzes get dropped though.
The exams are so difficult. The class is deceptive. There is a clear grading criteria, homework and quizzes are straightforward. But the exams are so rough. Definitely take the 1231 and 1232 route. This 1221 class is much harder. Please take my advice.
Ummm, to be honest, she is pretty good BUT beware that she sends 2 a.m. emails. Her outfits can be better, however, sometimes they give and she EATS. My favorite is the juicy couture set. Her laughs are very contagious, she never fails to make me smile. Roosey on top!
Math 1220 is not a hard class, half of it is literally just pre-calc you only start to do actual calc towards the end of the semester. Roosevelt is extremely kind and helpful, and is always available for office hours. The curve is also very good.
I absolutely adored taking Math 1220 with Professor Roosevelt! Although it is a lecture-heavy class, she is very clear with her instructions and is very welcoming of questions and confusion. She is very accessible outside of class and will always provide extra help with assignments. Her exams are very straight forward.
Prof. Roosevelt is really a great professor. It's calc, if you don't care and don't try you're going to do poorly no matter the professor. She's great at explaining things in lecture, especially conceptually. The homework is super helpful and she posts all her notes. If you study you will get an A (huge curve at the end as well).
This is a very hard class. Calculus is naturally difficult however Professor Roosevelt adds more on top. The exams have little or nothing to do with the lectures, quizzes or homework. There are also too many questions for the time allotted (1 hour 25 mins). She is a generally nice lady but avoid taking her class.
Way to many questions for the time frame allowed filled up with questions that can take up to 20 minutes because you are not allowed to use a 4 function calculator. The curve was pretty small as well. You have to do well on the tests, the curve does not help you. Roosevelt is sweet and caring but in terms of GPA stay away.
Avoid taking classes with Professor Roosevelt, she is a sweet professor but her tests are very hard. The practice test and quiz are both easier than the midterm. Midterm are very long and each question requires at least 10-20 minutes to solve. Be ready and use office hours.
Professor Roosevelt is so awesome that I never understood how people could dislike her class. Admittedly, her lectures could be a bit boring at times, but she never failed to provide a plethora of resources for students to study in preparation for her exams. That being said, her tests are HARD, and significantly more difficult than her quizzes.
Very kind person, but wow this class was not what i thought. her lectures were boring but pretty straightforward, and then you'd get to the exams and there was absolutely NOTHING from her lectures.
Pretty much the same structure as 1220 if you've taken it. Personally, I showed up to 1 lecture outside of exams the entire semester and did perfectly fine, the class is easy to teach yourself with the weekly hw. Quizzes are given in recitation weekly and are generally easy. Grading is done a little weirdly making it hard to calculate current GPA.
Roosevelt is one of the sweetest professors at GW!! Very kind & accessible outside of class. However, I have to say the exams are rough and nothing like what we did in class. The practice exam is NOTHING like the real thing so beware. However, she does offer extra credit at the beginning of the semester and drops the two lowest quiz scores.
Prof Roosevelt is very sweet and a good lecturer. I previously took calc in high school so the class wasn't too bad. If you do the quizzes and practice exam before the actual exam you should be good. There are weekly quizzes which are annoying but usually pretty easy and she drops the lowest two. Also weekly homework on WebWork.
Professor Roosevelt is a very sweet teacher who cares about student success. She goes out of her way to provide accommodations for attending discussion periods and setting clear expectations throughout the semester. However, her lectures are very dense and hard to follow. The lectures confused me more than they taught me.
Quiz and Homework due Fridays. Quizzes are two questions and usually easy.Homework it usually 30-35 questions with multiple parts. Could take hours depending.Midterms and Final are extremely hard. Class averages are typically in the 40s, but she curves. Lectures are very boring. You can teach yourself by watching videos and it will make more sense.
I took algebra 2 then stat in HS and it showed... Her lectures can be confusing and I found simple concepts from previous knowledge being explained in a more complicated manner than necessary. Quiz every week, drops the 2 lowest, hw is long. She's nice, just know some calc prior.
Sweet lady, horrible professor. Her lectures are so disorganized and don't make sense, the average for every exam is a D bc the content is 10x harder than the quizzes and hw. gives extra credit, doesn't help at all. Curves are B.S, took me from a C to a B-. Should've taken Srinivasan, now i'm stuck with her for 1221 bc she's the only professor.
Sweet professor. Not great teacher. Lectures are very HEAVY and explained in a convoluted way. Weekly quizzes so do well to help your grade. The two lowest are dropped. Curves are generous because no one does well. I did not take calc in hs so that didn't help. VERY accessible outside of class but that's kind of the only way to pass. Be prepared!
She seems like a nice professor and her fits eat but the course content is genuinely evil. The homework, the quizzes, the exams, all of it is so hard and the questions are so complicated.
She is one of the best professors that I have had. She is SO NICE and understanding. She is SO helpful when you go to her office hours. the class is so easy you just need to study for it and make sure to always go to office hours so that you could get help for HW. There is a lot of extra credit and the curve is generous. I would take it again.
amazing teacher, extremely understanding, explains the material amazingly would recommend
Prof. Roosevelt is a very effective teacher. Her office hours are very valuable as she will sit with you and explain concepts you don't understand. I was also able to get a few more points added to my exam by explaining my process. Homework is weekly online and quizzes are during every recitation.
Lectures are very helpful in introducing you to new topics, followed by worked examples. Great person overall and you can tell she wants students to succeed. Make sure to study using the sample exams she posts, as the actual exams are very very similar. Around 30 problems due each week, but not too hard to complete if you understand the topic.
Weekly homework and tests but they are always very easy. She's a super funny teacher and she really cares about what she does. Attendance isn't mandatory but you just need to stay on top of the work or you could fall behind.
