Eroneous teaching methods with unmethodical applications of ridiculous material.
she sucks, no skills, i hate her.
Vengeful towards those who didn't believe economics was a science
Teaching doesn't prepare for tests.

Have you ever thought about early retirement???
If i hear the words clearly or anti-trust suit again...i will be reminded of the horrid experience that sharon ryan put me through...you evil evil person...

I CANT REALLY SAY SHE HELPED ME LEARN
horrible, horrible, horrible

do not take this class
stopped going to class after the 3rd week, found that i can do just as well from readind the book. She's absolutely worthless.
**** on a power trip
Lectures are worthless and the tests have nothing to do with the lectures.
The worst teacher that has ever lived.
SHARON IS THE WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!!!!
Needs a lot of improvement
Got a C on the first exam then got an F on the last two. Very unclear as to what was on the test. Large class size and office hours don't match. Better get a tutor.
horrible woman who ****es people out in class
I am a freshman and I hope I never have another teacher like her before I leave Mizzou.
A huge ****, and this is coming from someone who aced her class. It's an easy A, but it means sitting through listening to her insufferable lectures. And she's just downright mean
Worst Teacher Ive ever had. Her tests were god awful hard, she is an evil, evil woman who hates her students. I love it that I got a B- in her class which was almost impossible
I never had this teacher. However, my roommates and numerous others have instilled such a fear and loathing for this vile, contemptible woman that thinking of taking this class as a Gen. Ed. requirement forces me to run screaming from the room.

She is not a very good teacher. The information on her online homework, lectures, and lab sessions do not match up with the material on her tests at all. I never know what to study before the tests!
She is the worst teacher I have ever had, and has made me think about transfering
She is possibly the worst teacher I have ever taken from, including back into grade school.
TERRIBLE!
She doesn't explain things well
While she isn't exactly mean in person, her test questions speak for her personality. I don't retain any of what is theoretically taught in her class in a dark room with a raspy microphone.
I hate economics, but I thought her lectures were actually interesting! She uses real-life examples that are relevant to teenagers, and she even uses humor every once in a while :) Plus, she has exact test questions (and answers!) on her website.
Her teaching sucks, she wasn't helpful at all, nothing she did made sense, and the labs were pointless. She assigned online assignments that didn't really help explain the concepts and her tests were terrible no matter how hard you studied.
Yeah, the lectures were a little dull, but damn, she is SMOKIN!!! Shake it Sharon!!
I actually learned more from my TA rather than her. She wasn't helpful at all, and I felt that many times I wasted my time going to lecture.
Sharon Ryan needs to retire asap. she really has no concern for the feelings of her suffering studnets and makes the test near impossible. i stopped going to lecture because she put me to sleep 4 straight times. its boring as hell. dont ever go.
I have a feeling that these other people rating on here didn't go to class, and if they did, they didn't pay attention and/or not study for her tests. Her tests are challenging, but definitely possible to do well on if one attends lecture and studies.
I visited Sharon during her office hours and searched high and low for a teaching degree, to no avail. I just makes me wonder...Hours of studying and extra visits with my TA only got me a C-. All in all, kill yourself if you are assigned to her class!!!

Poor teacher.
holy crap. She is impossible...even if you understand what is going on in class (i haven't missed a single lecture!) it is still like impossible to do good on the exam. I studied my ass off and i don't even think i'm going to pass with the curve.

This woman need to be put on a deserted island and forgotten about. The absolute WORST teacher I have ever had in my entire life! It's pretty sad when she has to curve the class so she doesn't lose her job. Don't EVER take a class with this woman!
Knows her stuff. Hard exams.
Heard so many horor stories about her. I took the class and got a B+. She wasn't bad, there was lots of extra credit oppurtunities. If you go to class and listen and study, its not hard.
Only a bad teacher if you dont go to class.
Okay, I got an A+ in her class, so IT IS POSSIBLE. She isn't really that tough. In fact, I was confused because I, too, had heard the horror stories. Go to class, do the work, and utilize the helpful resources she posts on the website. You'll be fine.
She gives the same lecture every time, regardless of what we're studying in class, and draws arbitrary pictures, saying, "See? Everyone loves pictures!" Bad teacher.
Inconsistency, not clear, boring, offensive examples. Just plain awful to sit through.
The simple fact is that Econ in itself sucks. Econ in a lecture with 500 other people is suckier, and labs taught by Grad students, bad. It is not that she's a bad teacher; she is teaching a crap subject. Tests are alright if you study and use internet.
Okay, so the crappy part of it is that microeconomics just plain sucks. And the horror stories about Ryan being on probation because of how many people she failed definitely doesn't help. But she really does try; her website is packed with practice tests and she holds tutoring sessions.
She isn't very helpful on a personal level, but if use the resources on the web to study you'll be fine. I had a good TA, although at first I didn't think so, but it's definetly possible to get someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

The woman is horrid. The first day of class she told us she never wanted to talk to us, and if we had a problem, that she didn't care. This was WS03, and I hear she has improved, but I absolutely despise the woman.
Probably the best looking professor on campus
she doesn't have the best personality but as long as you attend all the lectures and labs and do the online practice questions, the class isn't too bad. there are a lot of ways to get help since it isn't the easiest the concept to grasp. she also gives curves and bonus points.
I heart Sharon!

This professor was very difficult. She only works problems without explaining anything, expecting you to automatically understand it. The TA's were like storm troopers breathing down your neck so much that you can't concentrate on the tests. I was not a big fan of this class.
Stupid ****. No mercy whatsoever. No real applications to real life economics. Couldn't care less if the students learned or not. TA's made fun of her during lecture. My TA hated her. She has to go. University: Take a hint and let this **** go, she has failed enough students to fill Texas with.
This is the only class were I felt that the professor wanted students to feil. There were times when I went to talk to the TA and he had no idea what she was discussing. I went to all lectures and labs and I am a smart young adult and I barely managed to pass this class. Advice Switch or Drop.
i almost fell asleep during every lecture i attended
Horrible teacher. the things that she does in class really has nothing to do with what or how the tests are. i would rather rip my finger nails off before taking another one of her classes. i went to every class, every lab and studied hard for every test and still got a c+. her tests are impossible
easy class.....just look over practice tests....all the same as the test questions
Oh my god....
Even though she has no personality and her lectures are incredibly boring, the exams aren't that bad if you study.
her tests were impossible........i withdrew
horrible lectures, fall asleep half the time I'm in the class. TA's probably know twice as much as she does.
Test format is ridiculous.
Evil EVIL woman! Her explanations have scant relevance to the tests, and if there is any dispute on points, grades, etc., she always says she's right and leaves no room open for further explanation! Wants to fail every student she has!
I tempted to rate my TA instead; she's the only one I learned anything from. I went to a lecture once, it was pretty worthless so I'd say just go to all of your labs, do the online quizzes and study with friends for the tests. It's really not a hard class.
Lectures are worthless but she boosts your grade up a letter grade for going. Go and listen to music the whole time and study the previous tests, study guides, and quizes before tests and an A is reachable. T.A.s help with clarity that Ryan lacks in lecture.
Study her online old tests and you will be okay! (I did that and got a 98 on the final!) Her class itself wasn't too difficult, just really really boring and lets just say shes not one of the nicest people I've ever met. Bring a magazine or headphones to lecture.
She can't teach
It seemed like she knew her stuff, was very clear, and offered very helpful study sessions. The class isn't supposed to be easy. I don't understand why everyone dislikes her.
The class material seems fine - until you take the test. The test really doesn't reflect 1) her teaching style or 2) the material discussed in class. The lab was worthless. Students and TA could not successfully communicate with one another and the TA didn't explain the concepts very well.
do the online practice tests, s.r. is a boring and mean lady, but the tests are cake. i had well over 100% without really touching the book.
She is an awful teacher

I had no idea what was going on. She's an awful teacher, the material makes no sense, and the less I studied, the better I did. Sadly, there's little hope of avoiding her class.
By far the worst college professor I ever had.
worst teacher i've ever had.
She gets a bad rep for some reason, but I attended class and thought everything was simple if I paid attention.. She offers previous exams that were easy to follow and I got over 100 percent in both classes I took with her.
By far the worst "professor" walking the planet at this particular moment. Her tests are in another language, and she is the devil.
While she isn't the best teacher ever, she isn't as horrible as everyone is making her seem. I don't care for her teaching style, but if you pay attention and do the pratice questions online you should be fine.

No one likes her, and I don't understand why. She is a GREAT teacher! She's very thorough, knowledgable, and helpful. I LOVE that class! It is pretty easy too, b/c she goes over eerything slowly, and repeats things, she gives study sheets. What more do people want?? I think if you care at all, you'll like her and her class. Keep up the good work Pro. Ryan!
The actual lecture the material is a bit unclear, but lab clears it all up and material really starts to make sense. Most of economics is just common sense. I don't think Professor Ryan is all that bad of a professor and if you look over the old multiple choice questions you should do alright.

This womman is evil
I retook this class in order to improve my grade. The class itself is worse than before. Testing procedure is tightened up and students are crammed into one auditorium for exams. Lecture is helpful but not necessary, understanding lab material in much more important. Talking to TAs helps, if you can understand their accent.
I didn't have any trouble in this class. All I heard at the beginning of the term how hard it would be, but I didn't struggle at all. She provides so much study material about the tests that there is no excuse not to do well, not to mention all of the opportunities for extra credit (if you just go to the lectures, you get extra credit). Easy class.
Aight
Nice teacher, study the past tests, you'll ace the tests.
She'll stop class just because people are starting to pack up their stuff.
She is very cynical and rude. DO NOT EVER take her class!!! First of all her lectures are ridiculous. Second, she is very high up on her own tower. I really think that she doesn't like to help students, she wants them to fail to make herself feel better.
She is not helpful at all and does not prepare you for the tests.
This class is not as difficult as some make it out to be. She gives very clear examples of how to do everything. Class is extremely structured. Lots of previous worksheets/tests up on her website. Tests can be kinda tough but as long as you stay with the lectures and worksheets you'll be fine. Oh, and don't worry about reading.
I graduated from Mizzou a few years ago and my friend told me about this website. He called me and said, "hey guess who Mizzou's lowest rated professor is?" Without a second's hesitation I said, "Sharon I Eat My Students Ryan." Keep this in mind...I had her years ago...and still...I guessed it right away.
She does not give you the info you need for her tests! All the tests have a curve of at least 25 points. Also there is no need for the book its worthless!

If someone walked into class late, she would stop class and watch that person until they were seated. But she often held us late regularly - no respect for the students. There was so much worthless homework - we had something to do every night. Poor teacher, with an even poorer attitude. I would take a correspondence course before taking her class.
Could be better, could be worse. If you have to take her, just try to keep up with the lectures, there really is no need to read. Make your TA your best friend, it will really help.
I am an A/B student and I have always been. I failed her class. i got a 12% on one of her tests if that tells you anything. i have no idea why she is still teaching at Mizzou. No one likes her and half the people that take her class end up taking it again. if you are enrolled in her class...GET OUT!
for the tests: read the mc online and know how to do all of the problems from recitation and you'll do well...going to class for that EC and doing all extra surveys helps too.
Sharon was GREAT at explaining concepts clearly. To do well in her class, you MUST attend every class, otherwise you will quickly get behind. At the end of the semester, she will boost you to the next letter grade if you've attended most of her lectures. She also posts her old tests online, so DEFINITELY use those. I highly recommend her.
Her class is extremely hard. I often understood the notes. I did the multiple choice online and the practice problems. I also had a tutor. I'm an A student and I strugged through this class. Often her test seemed completely different or drastically manipulated from the notes. I squeaked by with a B after the huge curve.
AWFUL teacher her idea of being a good teacher is making the test so hard that all of the students fail and she has to curve the entire class, in lecture halls if 400+ she takes attendance which is of no benefit to the student unless you attend every lecture done take her class!!
All she does is discuss real life applications on economics, read the book to do well on the tests.
grrrrr
She is the honestly the worst teacher I've ever had. She is a total **** and has no clue how to teach. You can study for hours and still flunk the test. She's awful!
Her class is not that hard if you read the textbook. That is all you have to do, no attendance necessary.
She was TERRIBLE! this class is required for most students...so there's really no way around her. I went to every lecture and lab and still barely passed. After putting her academic probation, you think this school would wise up and fire her! This was by-far my worst and most hated class. I pitty anyone who has to take this class with her!
do NOT take econ from sharon ryan. you WILL regret it.
assignments were horrible
It's easy to say she's a bad professor because her class is hard, but she really explains the concept well, and her expectations aren't unreasonable. I did very poorly on my first test, but I hadn't studied well. I talked to my TA and prepared more, and I did much better. Take advantage of all the online quizzes and the massive curve.
Honestly, even though this class was super hard, Ryan makes herself very available for help. Despite students labeling her as a notorious ****, she's seriously pretty nice. I missed my final by accident, and she was cool about it and let me take a make-up exam even though I had no real excuse. Pretty sweet, ended up with a B+!
So I took this class and it was super-easy. I have no idea what everyone else is talking about.
Ryan was one of the most practical and straight forward professors that I've ever had. The horror stories about her come from freshmen newbies that are not accustomed to college classes yet.
I braced myself for the absolute worst and it turns out the bark is much worse than the bite. She gives massive curves on each test (nearly 20 points for some). I don't think she was really all that open if you need help but the TAs are. The last exam was completely different than the the other two. She smirked evily during exams.
Horrible professor. She is a pure example of how not to teach a class. What she discusses in lecture, isn't on her tests. The curves do help, but she is just awful. If I was to do it over again, I would have not taken her class.
Really not that bad. Even if you do really bad she curves the test in your favor 99% of the time. Do her practice tests to get a feel for the exams. Her personality may not be the best, but you can survive. Attend class and you'll get the material
She is undeniably hard. I didn't attend ALL her lectures but you REALLY need to read the book and MEMORIZE the hand-outs that she provides. GO TO LAB! Follow these and you will do fine.
if you go to mizzou you already know.... its bad.... good luck
This women teaches that free trade is good and tariffs are nice. Ummm... contradictory? She never teaches whats on her tests and I have learned from a foreigner TA who barely speaks English on what I am tested on. Avoid her like the plague, or clap, or ebola. Horrible.
none of her lectures have anything to do with the exams practically, its stupid. if do the homework well then you will know the test. she isn't a good teacher.
if you go to mu you've probably heard how bad her class is, but then it fits into your schedule perfectly or something and you'll say "oh it can't be as bad as everyone says" ...well it is.
Don't take this class
bad girl ,he mama would hve taught her some manners....baaad puppy
worst prof in my history of being an MU student
I'm a 2nd yr. student, I get A's, I try in all classes & study 4 EVERYTHING. I did all the hmwk, study sheets, practice exams, read every page of the book,&got a B- after the curve. Her TA's sucked 2. Mine hated me from day 1, & once I got a 2/5 on a quiz, and she handed it back to me,and smirked, and said "maybe you should consider studying"
Horrendous, worst teacher of all time.
Ok, I'm going to try and clear up some misconceptions here. The course material is not exceedingly difficult. The work load will not devour hours out of your days. And the tests... well the tests on the other hand will probably make you want to cry. Even though the material in 1014 is rather simple when you take a minute to work it over on your own
You will go to class and she will talk at about 1,000 miles and hour and after you are able to comprehend her, it all sounds pretty good. You will study for the tests and look over the material she has given you and then you will get and F or a D on the exam and you think to yourself "what the hell I am a 3.2 student!" Trust me, avoid the class....
Nooooooooooooooooooo....don't take this class.
Terrible, avoid at all costs.
Not hard material to learn, but hard to get a good grade in this class. You study for hours and think you'll do well on the test and when you get it back u dont do so well. Even straight A students like myself are surprised and still get a c or so on the exams. doesn't explain topics in great detail and yet still manages to repeat everything
hate her, her class consists of making random facts up
Her lectures are VERY clear. If you attend lectures, study for exams, you can at least get a B-. The course material is hard, but Dr. Ryan goes over it multiple times to make sure that everyone gets it. It's my second time taking Econ. Took it with a different instructor: that class sucked! With Ryan it made complete sense.
I just finished Sharon's course this semester and with the help of a tutor I passed with a C. I have to say that I put no real effort into studying so I'm sure with effort I could have gotten a C. Do the hw and u can do the test. Study the MC she puts up for the final. She takes your highest scores and lets you drop a test. All in all...not bad.
well... sharon ryan is undescribable. i worked my ass off went to every class and still got a c thanks to the curve. thank god for the RSD or i would have not passed. go to class and do all the work and take every opportunity for make up work. the tests are all written and graphs. she goes off on so many tangents and circles you cant understand her
When taking this class, I constantly finished exams thinking I had done wonderfully. Too bad, however, that they always came back stamped with a C or a D. Only because of the RSD did I manage to do well. It's pretty pathetic when you do 100% of the work and studying, and are in the top 5% of your class... and STILL can't get an A.
Hardest C+ ive ever earned. Ryan and TAs were NEVER on the same page which made meeting with her for help useless. "Help sessions" are a huge joke-1 poor TA in a small room with 10+ frustrated/desperate students while Ryan refuses to open her door (the NEXT ROOM btw) The quintessential "evil" college professor.
Sharon Ryan is a fast paced professor but is very easy to understand. If you pay attention to her, you will be able to learn the material easy. Tests can be hard because of the time limit but take advantage of the E.C. games because they can be a life saver. Take all the optional stuff: quizzes, hw, and test! A's are possible.
Sharon Ryans lectures have absolutely no structure and are very very difficult to take notes off of. Go to all RSD classes and make sure you very clearly understand the homework and you might be able to pass with a B. Maybe.
I transferred from Northwestern and my advisor suggested I take this class. Her lectures were unlike anything I have ever experienced. She spoke a mile a minute and always had an attitude if you came to her office hours. My TA was ridiculous, condescending,a not very helpful at all. For the sake of your sanity and your GPA, do not take this class.
Material covered in class may not always correspond with exams. 30 minute time limit on exams can prove both stressful and detrimental to many. Although Dr. Ryan would disagree with me... she could at least send out reminder emails for the large amount of online work she requires. NO STRUCTURE (as RSD was eliminated)
Useless lectures, impossible online quizes. While the exams are not impossible the half hour time limit is frustrating and causes students to work quickly and make mistakes. Partial credit rare. Do not take this class.
Worst class I have ever taken. Avoid at all costs. When you are handed exams, you will not know what to do. It saddens me that the university is still employing her. I will be taking similar course elsewhere - after a semester in econ. 1100 I have no basis of micro. econ. (Do not take course online, she runs course). I went to all classes & reviews
Relies heavily on online Aplia system to teach. She eliminated RSD sessions, which did not turn out to be a good move. If you prefer a human to teach you econ., instead of a computer, then don't waste your money on this course. Utterly disgraceful.
Sharon Ryan is a good teacher. If you attened most of the lectures and all of your RSD classes it isn't hard at all. The exams are EXACTLY the same as the written homework she gives, so as long as you do those you will do well on the exams. She gives you all the material you need to do well and even a couple of extra credit assignments.
She was the most organized teacher I have ever had and it made this class one of my favorites freshman year. She posts all of her lecture notes online (very helpful!), exams are very similar to written homework, extra credit GAMES are given online(Do these they are worth your time), online quizes are harder but can obviously be done in groups.
Utterly disgusted in the quality of this teacher (not professor that would mean that they met my standards of a professor).
Sharon Ryan sucks as a person and should never be able to teach seeing as she apparently has no possible idea how to teach.
reminds me of my high school statistics teacher(btw-that class helps with econ) she is really interested in her subject and is always in a good mood
How does one describe evil? At Mizzou all one says is "Sharon Ryan" and it is enough. Granted, the subject she teaches is hard. But I have had advanced microbiology and pathophysiology courses that ran smoother and better. Avoid her.
Great professor! Lectures were very organized and well put together. Millions of online lecture notes and study guides and bundles of opportunities for EC!
Sharon Ryan has become a Mizzou legend for her hard classes. I earned a C+ and that was almost impossible. If you have to take econ, take it with someone else!!
boring teacher and very restrict
I'm sure this woman is a great economist, but she is a poor instructor. I felt she had very little interest in her class actually learning. She was cold and intimidating.
She makes a class that should be easy enough into a task between the 30 minute exams and the fact that her lectures lags behind the quizzes, just be prepared and do all the practice work and you should get out of there with a passing grade.
hated it
I have no idea what everyone else is complaining about this was THE easiest class I took freshman year. The homeworks are the tests, and there are LOTS of extra credit opportunities. The hardest part is making triangles and finding the area. Just go to lecture and do homework and you'll do great. At first it may seem hard but it gets loads easier.
Everyone complains about Sharon Ryan but she is a GOOD professor and the class is totally manageable. The people who complain about this class are the ones who never go and don't do the homework. If you are a good student, you will get a good grade. And Sharon is a fine professor.
this teacher is a moron who cant teach. How she hasent been fired yet is incomprehendible. Mizzou is just wasteing its money on her. she is so stupid
no help at all. try to get another professor for economy if you can.
The online section of the class that she runs is terrible. Don't do it. I've found that she does tell you everything you need to know for tests, but she adds in a bunch of useless info you don't really need to know. The homework basically is the test, so understand it, and you will do well.
Had this class a couple years ago, but she was good. She told us what we needed to know, and I did well. People complained because she's strict, but I never had any problems.
I had Dr Ryan for Labor Econ. I have nothing but good things to say about the class. Sure, it was difficult, and she challenges you, but if you are interested in economics, she definitely prepares you. Her class requires you to use what you've learned and apply it to the real world- which, at least in my view, is what makes an econ class great.
sharon ryan!!!!
Had her for Micro Econ last sem. Although the homework and quizzes were enough to drive you insane, her teaching methods and tests I found to be intriguing and balanced. I'm glad I had Professor Ryan.
Econ 1014 is a course in common sense. At first I was worried about this class, but Prof. Ryan was great! Tests were extremely fair, and everything was curved up. The weekly tutoring sessions were extremely helpful, and the online quizzes were really good study material for the final.
Sharon Ryan knows her stuff! I learned a ton in this class. She is very organized and is very clear with her examples in class. People complain, but she is a very good professor. This isn't an easy A but if you do the homework and understand it, you'll do fine on the test. All of the material you need to know is on the homework.
Sharon Ryan is a know it all thats only purpose in this world is to ruin the GPA of mizzou students. The only relevant thing she has ever discussed in class is nueticals and its relevance alone is feeble in itself. Dont take the class. Waste of time. Decays your GPA.
People need to chill out. She knows her stuff and teaches in a very clear manner with examples. If you stay on top of your work, pay attention in class, and pick a good TA, it will be a breeze. Don't bother buying the actual textbook, I never even took it out of the plastic.
Don't spend your money on the book, it's not used at all. Also, skip the lectures. They're worthless. This is not the type of class that can be taught in an auditorium. Go to the tutoring sessions instead. Read the stuff online and you'll be good to go.
Lectures are important, tutoring sessions even more so. Class is completely manageable if you do your work. Plenty of Extra Credit opportunities, basically a course in common sense. Use her practice quizzes on BB to study... 50% of exam questions come from those. Easy A if you complete assignments on time.
She knows her stuff, but not how to teach it. "Tutoring" sessions are just slightly smaller lectures with the head TA teacher. Even though these "tutoring" sessions suck I'd recommend them - the TA is a better teacher and they're worth extra credit. Bottom line: thank God she curves tests.
I felt like this class was really difficult...It's economics... but Sharon Ryan makes the subject as easy as possible. She provides a lot of study materials on blackboard and TA sessions and extra credit opportunities.
Do not take this class what so ever. Sharon Ryan is here to kill your GPA and to discourage you from asking for help because she always have an attitude. I seriously recommend you do not take this class here. Avoid by any means!
Sharon Ryan is not as bad as people make her sound on her. The class is hard but since test's are really all that matter, you can do well if you go to class. Her questions and wording are the hardest parts of the class but if you look at her HW's and her quizzes you can get a hold of her. She is hard but the TA's are the real a**holes
Lectures are almost impossible to follow, she starts a subject and then swiftly changes to another topic. Her tests are hard and the material is uninteresting. Prepare to study, a lot.
Economics is not an easy subject to grasp at all but she is very clear in what she says in lecture and repeats concepts several times while she is going over them. Class attendance is required as well as the extra credit reviews(which not only enforce her teachings but you get extra credit. She is always willing to stop and make sure YOU understand
This is a hard class, and an easy GPA killer if you are the typical student who just wants to get a gen ed out of the way. If you want to actually learn about econ with a very knowledgeable prof, take this class. She is clear, efficient, and totally willing to help you. Attend all EC opportunities and ask questions in lecture and you will succeed.
Would you rather stab your own eye ball 50 times with a rusty needle.. then pull your finger nails out with your teeth....... OR take this class. I choose the first option. There is an online quiz every friday and it is the most frustrating 20 minutes of my week. examples in class: yeah, makes sense. quiz questions: ummm what...?
She wrote her own book for the course,so her examples are bad in person and in writing. NO power-point and has foreign TA's teach on Friday's. Not helpful
Professor was always prepared and had clear examples of what she expected. Nothing appeared on the test without her covering it. Econ is difficult for people in general and they take out their struggles on her rather themselves. Class is fair and seemed wiling to help before and after class along with office hours.
Don't know why everyone is complaining, this class is stupid easy. Skip class on Monday, turn in your homeowkr and leave on Wednesday, and show up to class on Friday, do all the homeworks and online book quizzes, and you'll AT THE VERY LEAST get a B. Really not as bad as people are making her seem.
This class is not that hard at all. If you read the book and do the homework and online quizzes you will be fine. The tests are very similar to the quizzes and worksheets she gives you. She makes a hard subject easy to understand. I don't know why everyone is complaining.
Show up to class on Friday. Read the text book, and do the extra credit.
This teacher can teach that is true. The only problem is that the book is poorest thing you will ever read. Unorganized material. You have no idea where she is in the book. Without the book to help you learn, tests and quizzes are hard to pass by yourself. I know that majority of people take quizzes together and also memorize the book for test.
take this class at a community college. this is a class you either are really good at and pass, or really bad at and fail. this class is ridiculously hard.
Class is pretty easy but Sharon is an awful teacher. Has no idea what she is doing
Dr Ryan wrote the textbook she uses in class. I only attended lecture a handful of times and got one of the highest grades in my class. Read the book thoroughly because the tests almost always consist variations of given examples.
She wrote the book. Literally.
Not as horrible as everyone says. She is incredibly smart so goes over everything in tons of detail. There are always TAs to help, especially the day before homework is due. Content of the class is repetitive but not too difficult.
Sharon Ryan must think we're all idiots. She consistently uses a 4th grade level when with her class and talks down to us. She also wrote the book used in class and follows it word for word. Don't attend lecture; it's pointless. Also, her lectures are repetitive and she spends half the class reciting the later half of her previous lecture.
If there was one professor who doesn't deserve to teach, ever again, it would be Sharon Ryan. She is a terrible lecturer, creates unfair exams, and is hardly ever available. If you can, take this class elsewhere. I hope the University takes a closer look at her. She doesn't offer evaluations, either. Just bad all around!
I was told horror stories but it best to come in open minded. You have to do the reading prior to class. If you are focused and paying attention you will do fine. She is helpful during office hours and uses lots of examples...Only thing is she wont bump if you are short of an A she wont help. I was .01% short of an A but I learned a lot
Dr. Ryan is tough but worth it. Take the online quizzes at the end of each section to prepare for exams but don't expect the numbers and figures to be verbatim, she'll trip you up that way. Always over-prepare for the tests but you can reassure yourself if you did poorly that there is always a large curve.
Everything she teaches is straight out of the book. Read the book and you are gold. If things aren't clear attended class. Gives very generous curves on tests. If you work hard it shouldn't be too hard.
Regardless of the horror stories, this class really isn't that bad. Go to the M/W lectures and READ THE BOOK! Study old tests and the online quizzes before the exams and you'll be fine.
Lectures are straight from the textbook. She posts notes online that make it easy to learn the material. Attendance wasn't required, so I rarely went to class. Her exams are based on the lecture notes (which are mostly material from the book) and similar to questions from quizzes/old exams. Easy A if you put in any effort at all.
By far the hardest class I took at Mizzou this semester. Her tests don't make since shes just an all around bad teacher
Just awful. Sharon Ryan's lectures are confusing pointless. Read the book and review quizzes before exams. Easy concepts are made confusing and difficult. I'm an A student and I attended every lecture I squeaked by with a C+. Class is a GPA killer, she does give large curves though! Avoid this class if you can.
I had a 4.0 until this semster and got my first grade lower than an A in this class...a D. I am the best test-taker around and her exams are impossible no matter how hard you prepare. She does not care about her students whatsoever. This class is a GPA killer and I would take it at a community college if possible. SHE IS AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Ryan is not that bad. Just make sure to pick your homework up every week and really pay attention during the Friday lectures and this class is cake. People complain so much because this is one of the first real classes they take in college that actually takes some work to get a good grade.
MEMORIZE THE BOOK AND QUIZZES. then you will get an A. and look over the graphs and make sure you understand them 100% because that is the entire exam
I don't understand the complaints ---maybe because I didn't take this as a freshman, it didn't seem hard. This class is super easy, Dr. Ryan explains the concepts like you're 5. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK. PERIOD. Homework was easy, but weekly and annoying to keep up with. If you read and understand the book, and pass book quizzes, this is an easy A
Don't take this class here or if you do, take it over the summer with one of her TA's. She doesn't define things very well because she wants you to read the book but even then things are not very clear. I've never had to re-take a class in my entire life until I took this class. Make sure you study because her tests are tricky.
The class is poorly organized. Study the quizzes and learn her tricks. Homework is helpful, too. Strongly recommend taking this elsewhere.
Professor Ryan isn't as bad as everyone says she is. You just have to go into the class with an open mind and willingness to work hard. Come to class, read the book, study for the exams and you'll be fine.
You have to actually put in the work for this class and you'll be fine. I don't understand all of the horror stories. Yes, her tests are demanding but they are doable. You have to put in some effort though. Dr. Ryan is a good professor and explains things well, but there were a lot of people that didn't come to class and expected to get an A.
This class is hard. However, it's not impossible. Sharon Ryan is a bright individual ... but she doesn't make it easy for her class. You have to read the textbook cover to cover and memorize every key point within it. Do all the homework (it's optional, but do it). Tests are extremely difficult. STUDY. But don't fret - she curves significantly.
Sharon Ryan gets enjoyment from failing students. Avoid this class at all possible.
Yes this was a hard class but if you put in effort and didn't just whine the entire time you would get a good grade! Received and A+ in her class
Sharon Ryan is an awful professor. Learned absolutely nothing in her course. Hardest class I've taken at Mizzou by far. I stopped going to lecture after awhile because I wasn't learning ANYTHING. The tests were impossible. I pulled 2 all nighters for the final and still didn't do good. I hated this class. Take at a community college if you can.
There have been several times where I understand Sharon Ryan's teaching assistants better than her. Her examples aren't always helpful or relevant, and quite frankly they make concepts more confusing for students. She is making this class unnecessarily hard. Even after reaching out for help, she just brushed me off to someone else.
Economics is really hard for some people and really easy for others. Everyone who really really hates her are just not that great at economics. I didn't think she was the best professor ever, but econ is something I'm good at so I didn't have any ill feelings towards her. I like how the exams are curved like 12-20%.
Sharon Ryan really isn't all that bad. Just go to class, do the weekly reading and quizzes, and study your butt off for exams. That's all there is to it- just put a little work in and it should be no sweat.
I don't wear my seatbelt on the way to class in the hopes that I die before I get there.
The worst teacher in the history of the human being race. If you're considering going to mizzou. I strongly consider not going, because of the most worthless, arrogant, and no soul teachers that they hire. Sharon Ryan wants her students to fail.
despite what most people say, I did not find Sharon Ryan's class to be incredibly difficult. Go to class, do any homework or optional practice problems and her tests are no problem. The final is worth almost 40% of the overall grade so you can make up most of your mistakes and pull out a decent grade if you try
if you are enrolled in her class DROP IT NOW!!!!! she is the worst teacher i've ever had and I dreaded going to her class everyday. the devil in disguise no joke... save yourself now and drop
Sharon Ryan was a terrible teacher and I wouldn't recommend her to anyone. Also, the TA's were not very good at leading the class and only confused me more because I couldn't understand them and they even got confused sometimes while teaching.
SO, amazing I have no words.
Really helped me understand economics. Best professor yet!
Sharon Ryan was a fantastic economics professor who worked super hard to ensure you actually learned the economics material. Tough but fair. Great teacher. Truly enjoyed the class, her lectures and the challenge of the course. I also majored in economics.
A very fair and organized class. If I remember correctly, there are 4 exams, but only your highest 3 count towards your grade. I completely bombed my first exam (D). TAs are readily available outside of lecture and are more than willing to help your understanding. Ended up with an A+. Just take the material seriously, and you'll be fine.
