This former surgeon has truly found her calling in teaching. She not only inspires one to learn, she teaches with humor and patience a very difficult subject. I can't recommend her class enough.

she is such a cool teacher. we had 6 tests and she dropped the lowest score. all her tests were fairly easy except for 1. i would totally recomend her. the only thing i didnt really like was when she would give us notes, because she would skip around alot

This class was very hard. I really loved it though and learned alot. She is a super teacher and provides a lot of ways to understand a concept. Lots of quizes and tests, but not much homework. Take notes!!! I am telling you, this is what saved me for the tests. I reccommend her, study hard though!

She's very clear and very fair in her grading methods. She'll really work hard at helping her students undertstand the concepts. I wish I had taken 100 with her as well. Your grade is made up of 15 or so quizzes, but she drops 3 of the lower scores. Very hard to fail her class.

Ignore the past few reviews. They probably failed the course and shouldn't be going into the medical field anyway. The class is tough but Prof. Shapiro teaches really well and uses good examples. She's clear on what you should know. Just stick to the study guides, read the text, and you should be fine.

Let me say this class isn't easy & u need 2 attend open labs or u wont pass the class with a B. She an extremely good teacher, the grade you earned in this class is what you earn. I had 2 retake her class so i could refine my study habits & passed. If ur having trouble passing, i suggest u go to open lab for help or ask her better ways to memorize.

She makes a hard subject understandable. Very passionate about teaching & very helpful with any questions you may have. Teaches the class with an emphasis on nursing so it relates to your career field. I would take her again for other biology classes in the future.

I was so glad a doctor was teaching this class. She made the class fun and eventhough it was a tough course she was helpful and patient.

I learned alot, and it really helped prepare me for nursing school. i would definitely recommend her class!

Awesome teacher. She's very open about her experiences, and allows for students to share their own as well. It made class very easy to follow. She goes off on tangents but they are interesting, and there's no homework except a free choice final project. She also let us use cheat cards on most of the exams. I HIGHLY recommend taking Bio 185 w/ her!

I love, love, loved taking this class! This is definitely a hard subject to understand, but if you study enough, you have nothing to worry about. I loved having Dr. Shapiro as a teacher, she was very helpful and kept the class entertaining. She was an amazing teacher, and allowed many oppourtunites for her students to do well in the class.

I love her she is so funny, easy to understand. The text book is very cheap. The class is easy there is only 4 test very easy everything is in the handouts that she gives you. I've had her before and she makes class very interesting. She's very animated, funny and has a lot of knowledge being a medical doctor. My only grievance is tests are never on the date scheduled. Attendance isn't mandatory and is a big bonus if your busy student. Just remember to ask someone for their number to get the updated test dates.

Loved taking Human Physio with Dr. Shapiro. The best bio teacher at SWC hands down. She is super chill, very funny and most importantly, extremely intelligent. She knows her stuff! There is NO homework, only 5 tests, Thats it! so as long as you study you will be fine

Finally -a teacher who makes learning fun! She really enjoys teaching and it shows.She clarified things for me on the first day that I had been struggling to understand for years!and it was interesting and fun in the meantime.

She is a fun professor & she knows the subject(she is a doctor)but I couldn't handle someone so disorganize. She takes more than a week to grade the exams, she gets off topic with her personal life,the study guides were send a week after the previous exam & labs were send a day before the lab day.Exams have 100 questions & lab exams are essays.

Anatomy and Physiology are hard classes no matter what, but this teacher makes things very clear and always answers any questions. She has a lot of stories to share! Although she is a bit disorganized but that didn't bother me at all!

Kept me intrigued throughout the course she is very blunt and funny. Study from her lecture outline. Some of her bonus questions came from there as well as other test questions which are intended to be tricky so watch out but other than that take advantage of her expertise in the subject and how she tells you higher level medical facts, she's great

Best biology teacher at southwestern. She's super funny and the lectures are so interesting. I looked forward to every class because her lectures were fun and simple. She's uses real life examples to help you understand biology. There's only 5 test and she drops the lowest score. She has old exams online and super helpful to study for exams.

Makes a very hard class FUN. This class requires MANDO memorization! Be prepared to actually study and make a study group, it'll be easier for you. She taught us a lot about the importance of spelling (thanks to her extensive mnemonics) and why we all should study for this class. It's a dog eat world out there for the nursing field.

Dr. Shapiro definitely knows her subject. She made her lectures interesting and easy to understand with her own stories and analogies. She wrote her own book for the course, read it and you'll pass her exams. There is a semester project in which you can do however you'd like but must of course be related to the subject. There's rarely any homework.

She gives amazing lectures making the class enjoyable and educational. She explains everything in detail and is clear on what is going to be on each exam. Study guides and old exams are provided for practice and most of the time they are very similar to the actual exam. Great Professor!

There's 5 exams, a couple of homeworks but she doesn't mind if you turn it in late as long as you turn it in. I just review a little a couple of days before the test and they're easy. All you need to do is pay attention to her lectures, which are very interesting, and you'll pass.

Lectures are very helpful for tests. For the fall semester we had 5 exams including the midterm and final. It's more helpful to read the textbook but I wouldn't say it's a necessity to pass the class. Pay attention during lecture and take good notes.

The class is interesting and fairly easy. If you take good notes, study youll be good. She drops one of the exams, including the final so if you do good on all exams, you technically dont have to take the final. She lets you leave with just having to sign your name on the scantron and fill in two answers. Super chill and fun!!! Shes very funny!

Lab stuff are the only homework (easy) given. She follows the study guide and lecture outline that she gives, meaning she will cover what's on the test and if you stay after class or office hours, she will tell you which sections to prioritize. Curves, gives little extra credit, tries to avoid the textbook cuz she knows we all broke. Very caring.

If you ne ed a BIO class take it with her. She makes the class easy, fun, and interesting. The test will have the material that was covered in class, so you need to be present and pay attention but her teaching stile is so accesible that you will not want to miss her class. If you're looking to just pass your GE's or go in depth with biology, Dr. Shapiro is the professor to start off with. Although this class moves a lot slower than others, you'll go way more in depth. Honestly, if you just show up to class, tests are almost too easy because she does such a great job in lecture.

I loved her, she gave amazing lectures and she really made biology interesting. I would love to take another one of her classes. She knows a lot about the medical field and she connects that back into her biology lectures. also the study guides are just like the tests.

Dr. Shapiro is hands down one of the best professors at SWC. Her lectures are easy to follow and makes difficult subjects easy to understand. She goes above and beyond to help out her students if you reach out to her. She is super chill and lab was a breeze. The only issue is that she takes way to long to give back exam grades, over 2-3 weeks!

My absolute FAVORITE professor at SWC. She is the reason I decided to major in biology. I got a 98% on every one of her exams and she allows you to drop your lowest exam grade so I dropped my final. Her lectures are clear, and she gives you tools to help you remember the information and tries to learn your learning style to help you better.

Even though she doesn't have an actual lecture slides, she makes physio understandable and she explains it really well. Her exams are mostly what she talked about in class and what's on her lecture outlines. Her exams have a lot of questions so be prepared for that. But overall she's a wonderful professor.

Dr. Shapiro was one of my favorite teachers of all time. Her tests are directly from her lectures which made it very easy to study for her class. There was barely any surprise from her so preparing for the class was easy. Moreover, she had intriguing stories that made you remember the content of the chapter. Professor Shapiro is a gem! Her lectures are unorthodox, exciting and relevant. She tests you on material she covers in class. The textbook helps supplement material cover during lecture. Lab is fun and most of them are done in groups. Anyone that is going into healthcare will really benefit from taking her class.

Yes, Dr. S's class needs streamlining. Lectures should be exam-focused with fewer tangents. Modules could be simplified. Better visuals, etc. But students should give her a break. Dr. S did her best with the new format. She recently sent a kind message about a project I did out of the blue. I get some of the criticisms but she's trying her best.

Dr. Shapiro is an excellent biology professor. The lectures were enough for me to understand the material and the homework made it easier to retain the information. I took her before the transition to online, and it seems she is having issues adjusting to remote teaching. I'd recommend this professor once in-person lectures are allowed.

Dr. S did a great job during Fall 2021 classes. Her expectations were clear from the being. Her tests aren't too bad to understand. She will give study guides, and the class before the test date she will go through what you need to know or at least give you notes to help answer the test.

I forgot to say there is no final or midterm for this class, only unit tests. Youre also able to redo hw for higher grades. She also provides pre-made quizlets which really help

I honestly would recommend Dr. Shapiro to take! She answers her emails quick along with that class being really straight forward. Tests are based on lectures and class quizlets she provides along with a small bit of outside source studying. No semester final just a chapter quiz. Honest really enjoyed her class!

This teacher is the best, she gives really easy assignments and exams, we had to do a final project and it was very easy all you have to do is turn it in and that's it, I was very nervous since I thought we had to present for everyone, but that was not the case. Most of the answers to the quizzes are found on her quizlet page.

Although I never spoke on zoom, I always was excited for this class because of Prof. Sharon. She made learning Bio fun and engaging. I felt confident in her knowledge on Biology (she knew what she was talking about). She's a retired surgeon who now teaches. I'm grateful I got to be in her class. Biology seems a lot more interesting now.

However, during the first half of the semester she gives out a lot of homework(super easy, but a lot) and her tests for me were kind of hard but I also can admit I dont put as much effort in it as I should. I never leave reviews but Dr.Shapiro is an awesome teacher. She cares for all her students and as long as you do your work and study for test you will pass this class. Gives great lectures and cares that you learn all the material.

Dr. Shapiro is really awesome professor and you will really become invested in her lectures. She's funny too and you won't feel sleepy during lectures because of her strategy in teaching. I would recommend taking her class!

I love the way she teaches. she will teach you what you need to know give examples with real life examples. She is a funny professor it took me 7 years to take this class because I suck in science but she made it so easy and interesting. take her

I'm bad at staying focused, but she captures my attention the way she tells her stories. When she writes on the board, she color codes, which really helps me and doesn't make everything seem like one big blob. She is super chill, and as long as you do the assignment and pass the test you will be fine.

I loved this instructor's class! I learned a lot in his alcohol and drug biology class. I like that sometimes she would talk about real-life experiences and relate them to the class; this made me even better understand the topic we were seeing in class. Without a doubt, one of the best instructors I have had at SWC.

Fall semester is almost over and I'm pretty sad because biology with Dr. Shapiro has been so enjoying to learn from and makes lectures easy to understand. I wished she offered other classes like chemistry because you can tell she has a passion for teaching what she loves. One of my best professors so far! Take her class!

I took her my first semester recommended by my brother to take her she is an amazing professor she will teach you using illustrations, hand drawings up on her lecture board. One full page cheat sheet for exams. Quizzes online. Very funny during lecture if you miss exam you tell her she will assign one for you to take at the academic center.

Dr. Shapiro explains Biology very well, I came to her class without knowing anything about Biology. The first day of class she said, "think of Biology, of real-life situations" and I did. That really helped me out a lot. She is really freaking hilarious, especially when she teaches "the concentration radiant, and diffusion". I definitely recommend.

Dr. Shapiro is an amazing professor and explains things really well. She's nice and cares about her students and even goes as far as to understand what everyone's learning style is. There's a lot of notetaking but that will 100% help you during exams! She gives you so many tools in order to pass her class! I would take her class again :)

Dr. Shapiro is a fantastic professor who makes biology engaging and easy to understand. Her teaching style, with real-life examples and hands-on activities, really helps solidify the concepts. The class is manageable with the right study tools like Unstuckstudy - it definitely made exam prep a breeze.

Really funny+energetic teacher. She adjusts her teaching based off majority of the class' learning style and knows what she's teaching. She teaches visually to us by drawing but is very quick so one blink & don't know what's going on but she respects the time of students and is not strict. Turn in everything on canvas in time so u dont fall behind!

Easy class if you put in the work, I never really went to lecture, but I still got an A. Do good on your exams, everything is on the homework and on online resources. Going to lecture fs makes it easier though.

Good professor, all the exams are based off her lecture where she does live notes so make sure to take notes while listening. She get's a little distracted sometimes and goes on a tangent, but they're somewhat related to the lecture. One or two assignments every week but they're easy. As long as you put some type of effort in this class you'll pass

She will be the best teacher! She's super inspirational. Absolutely loved her class I wish this class could be longer, she has so much knowledge. Definitely take her class.

She would let us come up with our own test questions in some of the weekly discussions. We have a Unit Test about what we went over and she writes the notes on the spot. I put that attendance is not mandatory because she uses this google doc in which you write your name in and thats how she counts attendance. Super easy class and very kind teacher.

Ms. Shapiro is an amazing teacher she explains her lectures so well. She always responded to the questions we had. The quizzes/tests were very easy if you paid attention and not missed class. She would let us come up with questions so they could be in the tests. The homework was light work and very easy.

Professor Shapiro is very nice! I really enjoy this class her lectures are interesting and you learn a lot. For exams, you're allowed to use a study sheet. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you might miss some information if you don't go. She provides study guides for each unit. If you need to take Biology 100 I definitely recommend this professor!

She is caring and smart; she is a doctor who is very inspiring for teaching. Easy homework but be prepared to read and do a medium amount of it. The exams are not difficult if you listen during lectures and she has a great attitude. You use an online book, so you don't spend anything. Some exams are online and some on paper. I recommend her.

She's a good professor. Her lectures are kind of boring but it's needed for the test. Most of her lectures go by with the textbook, so if you don't want to listen to lecture then just read the textbook.About two assignments per week, watch a video or a quiz. She's really funny.

Professor Shapiro is a great professor, I took Bio 100 with her this semester and it went really well. Her online class is great if you have work/sports or something else besides school that is time consuming. You can turn in assignments late until the test is due. Which is very helpful if you are busy. I would definitely choose Shapiro again!!

LOVED LOVED LOVED her class and her sense of humor. I would definitely recommend her for bio of drugs. Always made me laugh in that class. The last few tests were online but in person tests are open note. Lectures are fun and interesting.

Her lectures were interesting, she's very enthusiastic and likes answering questions. Homework was easy, with mostly watching short videos and answering questions. Two exams were online, and you can bring a study sheet to the three in-person exams.
