Ok if you like group work; she doesnt like to lecture the entire class so we do the work instead. She could show more examples, but she'll help you if you ask questions.
The subject is difficult, but i sensed that she was truly concerned with teaching it well. You are expected to know Algebra and Trig before you enter the door. However, she treats those who don't with respect and grace. She rarely makes a mistake - smart.
She has a great love for math, very sharp in it too! She gives alot of take home worksheets that need to be turned in, at the end they make up a full test grade. Be prepared to work, but the end result is very rewarding.
Really cares about her students learning the material, opposed to memorizing it. Extremely helpful and explains in great detail. She's a great person and teacher. Definitely take her!
Where to begin... She's always absorbed in her own activites, never offers office hours. Takes a point off of everyones next test grade if a cell phone rings. She moves tests around like crazy, so theyre hard to plan for. "Group project" is a pa
She hands out a syllabus to follow, but she does follow the order which make it difficult to follow the course. The class always had an aire of intimadation. She acted burdened if you needed assistance. Outside help from the Math lab was hard to get.
This was the worst Math semester I have ever had. She thrives on making students look stupid over material they haven't learned yet. Group projects were ridiculous, and if your over 30 your a waste of time. Knowledgable help was MIA. I still passed.
she would take the time to explain the subject that you would have problem with.
i actually started to understand stuff when i got to her class, very quiet lady, likes group work. the group work is ridiculous. she'll tell you what's on the test and gives you opportunities for questions...i ended up w/a B and i almost cried i was so happy.
Excellent instructor; works hard to help students succeed. Mostly, maintains class pace based upon how the class is progressing. Cares about her students and loves teaching. Helpful individually and with the class. Had her for Calc 1 too and she is GREAT!
i really don't know what every body else is taking about. First of all her project homework grade suck!!!! You have to study hard to make a good grade. She is a good teacher, no doubt. But she is hard, take Sells if you are not a math major or if you don't need Cal 2. But if you do, then take her.
She's probably the most helpful professor I've ever had. She helps outside of class whenever you need it. Best for college algebra and finite math in my opinion. Sometimes unclear in lecture but very clear when you ask her about whatever you need help with.
Her sarcasm is hilarious and she is a badass teacher. Best math teacher ever had knows what she is teaching. Tests are pretty easy.
I dropped this class after a few weeks. She spends too much time making everyone get to know everyone else, and having everyone work in groups. I'm not in math to make friends, I'm in math to learn. Also, I don't like working in groups because you're always stuck going at the pace of the slowest student. If you enjoy socializing and group work this is your class, if you want to learn the material take someone else.
She is a great teacher, I guess I really don't like math that much. But if I can make a B in this class, anyone can do it.
She explains everything really well and will help as long as you ask, the groups she makes you get in help, she doesnt put you in them to make friends she does it so you can help each other... She is vey sarcastic but only to people who say dumb things, so if your not an idiot then you will think shes funny and a good teacher!
She is rude and gets mad when I ask a question.
Great Teacher. Very organized and gives great notes, lectures are fun and interesting. I highly recommend taking her, her tests aren't the easiest, but if you study you will do just fine.
SHE IS AN AWESOME PROFESSOR, SHE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING WITH CRYSTAL-CLEAR CLARITY. IF SHE SEES THAT YOU ARE STUDYING AND LEARNING SHE WILL TRY TO HAVE YOU SIGN UP FOR A SCHOLARSHIP THAT YOU CAN CARRY WITH YOU TO VARIOUS UNIVERSITIES. I WISH TO CONGRATULATE ANYONE WHO IS PLANNING ON TAKING HER FOR MAKING A WISE DECISION, YOU WILL ALSO LOVE HER :)
Math is not my strong point. She didn't make it simple by any means. I took her for college algebra and made a C, then took statistics and made an A. I thought statistics was supposed to be harder?!? Anyway, they dont call her The Sledge-hammer for nothing.
Took her through distance learning. She does not respond to emails at all. When I needed help I had to go elsewhere. Grades are composed of 5 quizes worth 20 points each and 3 exams. That's it!
Great.
She is a great teacher. Always willing to help and very understanding. I recommend everyone to take Professor Sledge for any math she teaches.
Very Good teacher, she gives you a lot of examples, what she gives in class is what is on the test. She is very knowledgeable and very interested in seeing you succeed in the class. I recommend her highly
Very helpful in getting transfer credit to my current school.
Great teacher. Flexible with time, helps in any situation, great notes, an honest interest if her students passed or not. Just all around good. I got an A and i'm sure you could too
Sledge is the BEST. Took her during winter mini. She sincerely cares about her students. Her notes are thorough and she repeats things over and over to make you remember and understand all of steps. I wish she taught cal at UT. Anyways, pick her and you won't regret. It may seem hard at first but don't give up. It'll be worth it.
Just an overall awesome teacher! Explains in detail and always asks for feedback to continually improve the course. It might seem difficult at first but if you stick with it, you won't regret it.
Awesome professor, like everyone has said she really cares about her students. I've taken her for Cal I and Cal II and will be taking her Cal III class as well. Very low book usage, especially cal II, mainly handouts and instruction in class. I would recommend Sledge for any class, she's not to easy and she's very clear.
Great!!
Great instructor, I was scared of cal 3 after calculus 2 but she made it very interesting and easy to understand. By far easier then cal 2. If you have to take cal 3 take Sledge.
Very accommodating teacher who believes in the value of group work. She has an excellent understanding of the material. Just because I prefer other teaching methods over group-work doesn't mean her methods are bad. Everything is easy to understand and we know what will be on each test. She's a good teacher who knows her stuff. Two thumbs up.
Most of the people i know who hate mrs. sledge are the one ho dropped her class in he begining, If you show up and turn in your work you will pass even if you fail every test. She really cares about effort. SUPER INTIMIDATING but suprisongly nice if you have a question or cant make a test. Study groups are awesome for this class!
She is a really good teacher. she'll work with you, her assignments are easy. she rarely gives out home works. her test are not hard but not easy you have to practice. she is so clear, she can really teach you the subject. TAKE HER
Soooo just took this professor. 4 assignments 3 exams 1 final worth 30 percent must do well on final to pass the class. You have to work hard. I procrastinated a lot so ended up passing but it's possible to get an A. Look up patrik videos on youtube and use wolfram!
She is really good I had previously taken this course with another professor and failed it without learning anything. She is very clear and gives a lot of examples. We did a lot of group work and she doesn't give hw really. Her tests are nit easy but not hard she gives a lot of partial credit that helps to pass. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND HER!
Good Teacher, passable class. Took the course in a 5 week mini and made a B in the class. Just go to class, pay attention, and you should be in good shape. A heads up doe, her test are kind of hard but at the same time easy. Just ask questions before the test day and you should have no worries. Learned alot and would not mind to take her again.
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ONLINE CLASS.I took online class was because I had full time job.She gives extremely lots of work. You have to spend at least 3 to 4 hours a day for this class. You also have to go to campus to take finals.I asked help through MyMathLab but I never got response back from her.I barely passed her course with C- last semester.
She knows her stuff but her teaching style did not match mine. She's very dry. Will answer questions if you have them but you have to know what to ask. She wasn't very helpful at first..got better as the semester went on..would not recommend her..she didn't make math fun..I dreaded every minute of this class.
No idea about her real class, but I would toadily recommend taking her online! Miss Sledge is so0o helpful! She taught my friend's summer Precal at A&M, so you know her class is full-on sick. She won't baby you, gotta do the work, but really wants you to learn and will go out of her way to help!!! Trust me...Sledge is the way 2 go
I took Sledge in a 5 week summer course for Calc 1. I'm no genius, but I ended up with a 106 average in the course. THAT'S how crystal clear she is. Great teacher. Really has a knack for teaching. I thought a summer math class was going to be very fast paced and rushed, but she truly takes her time.
I took Sledge for the fall semester of 2013. Let me say, she really has a knack for teaching math. She's so passionate for it. She's extremely helpful, she gives you scanned notes on BB, and tells you what you sections you should do out of the book for the exam. Exams are okay, RARELY any homework, no pop quizzes. Overall great teacher! :)
horrible teacher in every way possible. "A" student having a hard time with this teacher
She is okay. Puts a lot of emphasis on group work, but sometimes that is not possible for some people. She gives extra credit as well so take advantage.
Professor Sledge is a Great Teacher. I am no expert at Math, and received a B in this course. As long as your attend class, listen, and put in the work(5-10 hours of study outside of class), you will pass. She is a very reasonable women who loves teaching and cares for her students. If you understand the material. You will do fine.
Professor Sledge is one of the best instructor I have ever had. She really make Calculus easy to understand and mastering. She is very knowledgeable and care for her students. Offer extra credits. You only need to study her notes to get an A. But, you do need to study because it is a hard course. I took both Cal 1 and Cal 2 from her, and I got an A
Toughest teacher I've had yet. She made it clear at the beginning of semes that she wants us to be independent learners, & independent learners we became. Cal is no easy subject, it takes practice and time. She posts notes that we did in class on BB,& we had a lot of group projects. Trust me, you'll learn to love them. Overall, I'm happy i took her
I took sledge for cal 1 and she was very helpful. She expects you to learn and not just get by her class but she is very clear and explain everything to the bare bone. She does give group projects, but trust me it helps a lot. Cal 1 is difficult but sledge is willing to help a lot. I would recommend her to anybody that's willing to learn.
Took college algebra online,Professor Sledge is a very fair and helpful educator. Expectations for course are clearly stated in the very beginning. Lots of Homework and 4 exams(all online), finally 1 comprehensive final, which is taken face to face. I was able to do very well (A), through 3 test, until then end, but that was my fault. Would recomm
She helps you out a lot! I had her online and her tests were harsh! Failed two of them pretty bad & she reopened them to retake again which those I did pass & her final was hard but not too much. Even if you try in the final & you get an answer wrong she will accumulate those points for trying to help you pass Recommend her a lot & would take again
Great professor! Took her for cal 1 and 2 and is the reason I love math! Take her. She's very helpful and doesn't make you feel stupid about any questions you have. She explains thoroughly so you know why what your answer is wrong.
Great at lecture, grading can be a little inconistent because someone else grades her tests but she offers opportunities to go over them and challenge a grade if you feel you got the problem right.
I loved her teaching style. You end up leanring more and she sets you up for success. If you have to take more than cal 1 she is for you!
5 week summer class for cal1. Week 1 quiz and group project Week 2 quiz group project and test Week 3 quiz project and test Week 4 2 projects and a test Week 5 project and final. Unrealistic expectations. Very difficult but she is not a terrible teacher for people who have taken this class before. If this is your first time in cal I don't recommend
Took Cal I with this professor on a 5 week summer school session, worst decision ever. The professor knows the material very well, but assumes everyone in that class has taken Calculus at least once before. Does not offer office hours outside of lecture and does not respond to emails. Intentionally makes exams and especially final extremely hard.
I took professor sledge for the first 5 week mini term and it was worth it. She is so clear on what she teaches us in class, and she gives out group project to do with other people which is helpful. let me tell you, the group projects are hard, but her test are easy and she grades very leniently. she will tell you what to study for on the test.
I personally didn't like the way she teaches. She contiously goes on about her day, or how blackboard works. She got distracted very easily. The only positive thing I will say about her is she will stay after class is over to help you.
Professor Sledge is such a sweet person, she cares about her students and is very descriptive and engaging when she teaches. She encourages students to speak up and ask questions if there is anything they don't understand. This class saved my degree probably. I'm awful at math but I'm getting an A in this class.
There was only about 8 grades in total for the semester. If you don't pass the tests you will fail!!!! The reviews are very long sometimes they're 100 questions long. I suggest you do not take math online. I am super good at math and love it but this was the hardest math class I've ever taken.
Very smart and adept at explaining concepts. Gets annoyed if students aren't prepared for class, and can get snarky if questions about basic concepts that should already be understood are asked. Her TA was irritating and seemed to be trying to prove his superiority. Lots of group work. Make a couple reliable acquaintances, you'll need them.
She does not teach very well her exams are difficult
There are a LOT of group projects. Spent a fortune on gas meeting to work on these stupid things. Know that there is mandatory service hours. You have to do at least 18 hours of community service or you miss points from the grade. However if you get MORE than 18 hours, you can get a lot of extra credit. Final exam is really really hard.
If the course content we're any more difficult I'm sure most of the people would have failed. I ended up doing more teaching than her. I never even bought the text book so I would waste money on that.
The material was hard but it is Calculus I - she explained it very well. Really prepared me for Calculus II. If you do your part then you will do well in the class.
Study ahead so you can follow Professor Sledge in class. Take notes and work hard. No regular assignments for each topic. Group projects are very hard. Be careful to choose your groupmates. Calculus itself is a difficult subject. No study after class no pass. I studied 140 hours after class last semester, and my average is 100 out of 100.
Love her class. She is fair. Very easy to learn.
Treats every student like a kid and uses her own set of notes although they don't cover anything on her tests. If you could get a textbook, it would be very helpful.
Only three test the final counts as 50% of your grade. You have to have specific amount of service hours for that class or she won't pass you. Test are kind hard only because she barely goes over the material REALLY needed for the test. Gives no homework throughout the semester but towards the end saves up random things to do.
Dr. Sharon Sledge sees the good in her students before they see the good in themselves. Makes Mathematics fun and interesting but it is not easy so you do have to do lots of homework problems to master it. She is available to answer any questions if you visit her in her office. I am now an Electrical Engineer because of her. Thanks Dr. Sledge!!!!!!
Sledge is by far the toughest professors Ive ever had in mathematics. Not only was the way she taught confusing but she also has the audacity to insult me when trying to drop the class. Wouldnt ever get her again
I hated taking this class, this was the only math class i needed for my degree plan and i wish i would have read the reviews before i signed up for her class. she only grades stuff based off tests and does random group projects.. the stuff on her tests she gives is sometimes stuff she did not go over. do not take this class with her. horrible.
so this professor is ok, if you miss lecture you will not understand her material. this was my first time taking pre-cal and haven't had math in a long time so i really tried to understand the material which was pretty difficult to understand her so my best friend was you-tube. she explains things in a way as if the student should already know.
I took her in the summer so the pacing was fast. She did not mention on her syllabus that the Webassign homework was not factored into overall average until 2 weeks before class ended, so I wasted my time doing that instead of the paper homework she assigned. Drops were recommended if we didnt have a 70 or higher. Do ALL group assignments!
Sledge is the sweetest prof ever! She cares for her students, especially when she can see you are working hard. She is a great teacher. The class is only hard because it is calculus. Sledge is very clear and always answers questions to be as helpful as possible. Occasional pop quizzes. Exit ticket after every class. HW is often but not too heavy
I travel for work and a lot of the grades are based off WEbAssign, one week I didn't have great connection where I was staying so WebAssign wasn't cooperating and I didn't complete the assignment. I emailed her about my situation asking for just a two day extension. She never replied but still graded me off of the little homework i was able to do.
I'm going to real here and say this, this professor was my math teacher's college professor when she went to college at San Jac so that is one of the main reasons I took her for 2 semesters (MATH 2412- A+ and this class too). I will say that you might want to look ahead of the schedule and get yourself familiar with the next unit. Good Luck.
I took this class in the summer as a 5-week course. It was online anytime. Professor Sledge made the class learn through homework assignments through WebAssign, which provided help through videos on some of the questions. As long as you do the questions on Webassign, the exams should be a breeze.
PreCalc I took her for the first half of summer and did quite well. I had to pay around $100 for the Cengage, com course and textbook. all the HW/Exams/learning is done through that. Every HW Ch. and exams are available every Wednesday and done on Sunday. No working out is required to be posted but optional. I recommend taking her online course.
I also took her for Cal 1 and found it a bit similar to her Pre Cal. Still had to pay $100 for it Cengage course which includes textbook/HW/Exams. The difference from her Pre Cal course is that there are now take-home exams and a signature assignment which is two pages (around 15 questions) that require working out to be uploaded. It's a good class
I highly advise against taking this professor if you are going to take harder math courses. This semester she was very difficult to deal with: very inflexible, painfully slow & boring lectures, very confusing regarding due dates and directions for assignments, doesn't respond to emails... just a really big mess. Had to self teach myself the course.
Wouldnt recommend to take this professor as she is very forgetful and unorganized with her grading. Terrible communicator, gets upset over the simplest mistakes.
Gives us two homework assignments s each week that are at least 40+ questions. You will have a quiz that is 40 questions plus a group review that goes with the test. You have to make a 65 or higher on the final.
Teacher was extremely helpful when I needed an extension on an exam additionally whenever I was having technical difficulties. Very polite.
Sledge is very nice and is good when it comes to teaching the material. It is very lecture heavy but she makes it very easy to follow what she is doing. She frequently asks if anyone has any questions about the material. Also for most of her exams there is a group portion that is worth points for your exam and it helps you review.
She was one of the best professor I had for math, She helps make the subject make sense and teaches very very well. She has group portions for the exams that make up like a fraction of the exam grade that helps a lot because you can consult with other students. She has a lot of homework but it's doable, and she explains topics really well.
Professor Sledge is a very well respected instructor and knows what she teaches. She explains her topics thoroughly and in an organized way. Homework is not too bad, and exams are similar to homework. There are group portions to her exams which help review for the individual portion. If you need any extra help, she will gladly help you.
Her lectures are extremally boring and I found myself looking up the topics online. This class requires a lot of focus as she assigns lots of homework. This is a very fast class with little room to fall behind as each lecture is something new. She's polite but I did not enjoy her teaching style.
Professor sledge is a great teacher with inspiring stories and wonderful teaching style, and her lectures are wonderful
Professor Sledge is a great professor and her lectures are quite helpful as she explains in good detail her material. There is quite a bit of homework but it is manageable and the group projects she assigns for her tests can be quite helpful in preparing for the exam.
She was ok. Had a group project and a good amount of test but she dropped the last and replaced with the group project. Honestly, I heard cal 2 was hard but she made it mid.
Professor is ok. Lectures are somewhat clear and fast. Very petty in the way that if you don't do thing her way its the highway, when its their job to teach you and you're paying them. Workload is somewhat hefty and explanation on what's assigned or not is not made clear all of the time. Due dates are manageable to turn in work though.
Professor Sledge's class was fairly easy- she would post a two hour lecture video that overviewed the week's material, and would have around 8 assignments to do each week, alongside an individual and group portion test. She answered emails very quickly and was very understanding. Easy course, but you end up teaching yourself basically everything .
I took her for pre-cal and cal 2, She offers extra credit after class (one point per hour) for robotics events, if you build a relationship with her she is willing to curve your grade. I enjoyed her teaching style, and she allowed a notecard on most exams.
Loved this class. The class was laid out in the beginning, and very easy to access. Each bundle (4) has an individual test, a group test, and homework to go along with it. Extra credit is offered for every homework you complete before the due date. Very simple class, and I learned a lot even though it was online. Would recommend this professor!
Despite reaching online, she's not tech savvy which tends to lead to some issues.
5% of your grade is from ai conversations that test your knowledge on a subject. The ai would go in circles and sometimes it would be impossible to complete due to not giving an example of a problem, which you need 2 of to complete and get credit for. Expect to never go above a 95, the class is fine otherwise.
Professor Sledge's class was challenging, but manageable with the right approach. The lectures were helpful, and the WebAssign homework was a great study tool. I found Unstuck study and the textbook to be really useful for test prep. Overall, it's a solid class if you stay on top of the work.
Be aware of this class if you take it online, you will have to join a group of random people and thus complete group exams every section. If you pick the wrong people you're pretty much going to have a really bad time like I did. Lots of homework as well. I also emailed her multiple times about an issue, and she never responded to me.
If there's another professor you can take for this class do it. Anytime I emailed her questions she blamed me for her lack of communication, also if you need a teacher who emails at all other than test days she isn't the one. Her grading policy isn't clear and she won't elaborate further. The class wasn't horribly difficult but wouldn't take again.
First time taking Calculus, wouldn't recommend taking a Calculus class over the Summer. I enjoyed this class a lot, it was very difficult and took lots of time to do the homework & study but it was all worth it! Professor Sledge has lots of extra credit opportunities and provides lots of videos & other helpful resources to set you up for success.
I would not recommend this class if you want to pass. Professor Sledge was very rude and disrespectful to students
I took cal 1 hybrid course, worst mistake ever. She lowkey seemed very confused/disoriented in the lectures, i felt lost after class all the time. Cal is not hard for me but she made it unnecessarily difficult. She's passive aggressive and not understanding at all despite it being a hybrid course. Overall, lots of people in my class dropped out.
