so very boring
Not a good professor .. shouldn't be teaching!!!
Need to have office hours, notes are appreciated, but too many mistakes in them
Office hours would be good. Boring material, hard to pay attention.

he is doing his best to teach a boaring 100 level class.
what can i say??......i did great on the midterm!!
maybe more assignments to understand the material easier???
explanations unclear. IFweDON'TunderstdAconcept w/1st.eg., TRYanotherORanother
Need to have more chances to get marks other than tests - make assignments count
The text books are at a higher level than the class. Make assignments count.
boring class, but great teacher, always willing to help students understand
could use more examples and assignments.would like to see more econ less logic
Make asgnmts worth marks, don't chew gum while teaching-is distracting to lectur

In a semester of CS 375, CS 350 Math 221, and Math 222, this man is a great prof
Very clear way of explaining
didn't think you could make sports boring. so far he has been succesful
It takes too long for everyone to copy down the notes, just hand them out to us
provide ppt handouts, using slides for copying notes is demeaning to the class
Supplying notes before lectures would be more productive than copying notes.
your exams suck!If I wanted a math class I would've taken one! You don't know what your talking about in class. If you're gonna put math on the exam so should go over EXAMPLES first!!!
Material is presented in a way I think that everyone can understand. You are clear in your discussions and use examples I understand.
Very good at explaining himself when asking questions. To avoid the students not having to take notes, he could inform them to print off Powerpoint slides on McGraw's website, as alot of these slides are covered during his lecture.
Totally unfair final exam. 40 marks for 1 question which was briefly discussed in class!!!
It is econ 100 and it was fairly painless. Should be in the 70's.
Very clear. Made me pursue a career in economics. Great job!
He is really bad at teaching. Why does the Economics department hire people like him?
Terrible! Really bad!
Good prof. All you people whining about his exams- get over it! If you want a teacher who spoon-feeds you and goes over every question before the test, go back to high-school.
Good Prof, does not like to waste his time or his students. To the point in the lectures and on the exams.
Very easy to understand in class and notes were well enough organized that even Ogy could follow them, until he dropped out. Has odd view of how a sentence needs to look, but still a good guy.
How could anyone say he isn't easy to understand?Everything is on power point, he doesn't have an accent, he is a bit of a loud mouth...Ok maybe he's a bit of an a**, but an easy to understand one.
Good overall teacher. Very willing to help out students when they need extra help. Good presentation in class, and I like the hints he gives about exams for the people that come to class.
Good Prof.I like how he responds really quick to the emails. tests aren't the hardest material by any means, but they are hard in the fact that they are only a few questions. midterms was 2 questions. So you better know everything, or your in trouble.
This first time I took Economics 100 was 15 years ago. Back then I had a terrible professor, I didn't understand the subject, and failed the class. Thanks to Augustin, I'm switching my major to Economics, and want a career in this field!
he rocks he knows his stuff
props for not clocking that annoying nodding guy in the front row, he is a better person than I. that and i learnt lots in his class
The ratio in this class is seriously messed, I haven't seen this much sausage since the Oskar Meyer weiner commercial. Still interesting and well taught, but maybe we should look at the economics of cheerleading or dance, to improve the background.
His class was interesting and informative, useful info and materials, exams were average! should be a regular professor and not just a sessional lecture!
He goes very fast. Only good thing i noticed is that his exams are easy and teaches to the point. And he needs only short answers. Marking is fair.He is good but fast!
FIND A CHEAPER TEXT. didn't buy it anyway. (prob still got 80%) Sorry FORT! Good instructor!doesn't act like he's smarter, tries to make you smarter. Plz make class examples like more like exam ?s for future students, would really help.
intersesting class, good guy.
the class itself was boring, but he always tried to help by using examples we could relate to.
Overall, I found Econ 296 (the economics of sports) to be a very satisfying and imformative course. I learned a lot about about how sports teams and the leagues operate, and how this affects their performance in the standings and on the bottom line.
Suprised by the difficulty of the class at first. I suppose that had a lot to do with missing classes! At any rate, the course is fairly dry for an otherwise interesting topic, but Shaun is a stand up guy, you will enjoy taking a class from him.

Great Prof. wa able to work through a semister of economics in record time, with a great deal of clarity.Good Job Shaun

Unusually heavy amount of work for this level of class. The readings arent bad, but there are too many assignments and they take too long.
If you have to take 201, take it from Augustin!!! He is an actual Economist for the G of S, and knows what he's talking about. I definetly reccommend him. The Aplia program he uses is a lot of work, but well worth it. It is very interactive and interesting material.
Best Econ Prof. i have ever had. Exams covered only the most important and relevant info. Shaun is very good at explaining concepts in lay mans terms. If he taught another Econ class needed, I'd be in.
I liked the Aplia, and that Shaun was available for questions. The midterm was harder than I expected but it was comprehensive and it did require me to really understand economics.
He is very knowledgeable. Midterm was a lot of stuff to cover, but a fair marker.
I did not like Aplia. I would prefer a textbook over reading assignments on the internet. Also the assignments on Aplia were nothing like the midterm, so I would suggest changing one or the other. The midterm was unexpectedly hard, hopefully the final won't be as bad, considering I write it in 5hrs.
Great teacher, and the Aplia website was amazing. If I could take all my classes online in the same format as this class I would in a second!
Shaun is an awesome prof! He has a great knowledge of the topics and is very helpful. Using Aplia made it that much easier and kept things organized. As long as you pay attention in class and take a few notes (not much compared to others), you'll do great in his class! Exams are a little tough.
holy crap... there is so much stuff to cover, before you can learn one concept, your on to 5 more.. its hard to understand because it goes by so fast :(
This is a good class, but it is very indepth and fast paced. He's a good prof, but the aplia website does not prepare the student for the midterm, and his lectures do not prepare the student for aplia.
great teacher. He knows his stuff, and aplia is a very useful tool.
Not a good prof..should stick to working for the govt.
Shaun was very organized and clear in his presentation of the material. His knowledge of and ability to teach the material was excellent. He also ensured that he was available for students who sought out extra clarification. Excellent prof!
I agree with the comment that said that Aplia did not prepare a student for the midterm, and also his lectures did not prepare the student for Aplia. The course I found was really challenging, and quite hard to get a grip on things. To much information at one time. Shaun is nice, but class is tohard
I think Shaun is a great prof who takes the time in class to explain the subject. His lectures were very clear and precise. Also his exams may be a little harder but he does provide you with excellent hints and study material. All in all he is a great prof and I look forward to more of his classe
I really enjoyed the online text book. Very helpful, very explainitory. I would like to see more courses incorporate this online-text method.
Kinda dry material straight off the website. Hard to apply it come exam time.
Shaun is a good prof, but there's too much material for an introductory micro course, especially since this is my first econ class. The midterm, although he briefed us on it, was nothing I expected. The long answer question was difficult to analyze.
A lot of time and effort is required for Shaun's class but he is always available for help. I took it as a night class so I found the lectures very long and sometimes boring. Overall though, Shaun is a very good prof and I would definately take another class from him.
I really liked econmics.I think Shaun did a good job.
Very interactive class. Loved the market experiments and made a dull subject interesting.
very boring material, made it decently interesting, did a good job during lectures, i could actually sit through a 2.5 hour class. he did a good job.
This was a pretty awful class. The slides are practically straight off of the online text(and the others are from his econ 100 course)! I would be as prepared if I just read the text and didn't go to class. The midterm was nothing like the way class was set up, next time prepare your class!
class all theory, tests all math, crappy
Test are way to hard for this level of class and they require good math skills. Aplia was horrible.
Lots of work, but you learn alot and learn economics well after this profs class. For those who think they don't have a good grasp of what Econ is all about, maybe take econ 100 first so you won't be whining like the others in the end.
Very hard class and aplia adds to the difficulty of this class by not preparing you for Shauns questions on the test. He seems like he really cares how people do on his tests tho. Take his class if you are willing to spend alot of time and don't expect aplia to help you out all that much.
Test were very fair! All questions were very clearly hinted at if you attended class. Classes were very long and boring, but its hard to make Econ fun. However, Shaun did a great job with lectures & providing examples. If you want a fair prof who truly cares about the student. take this class!!
shaun does a good job of explaining things in class and aplia clears things up ...although aplia was not exactly like the test it still helps you understand the material better. the tests weren't hard if you go over the material and pay attention to shaun's hints...the summary of what was on the final was very helpful...i would recommend this prof
shaun is a good prof that is very clear and likes class participation. He explains any q's really well. There are a lot of assignments that are done online that take a while but sure make the exams seem easier.
Had fun. Only regret is that this class (for me anyway) was not to be taken in summer.
High work load in course but material is explained clearly and presisly. Overall course was good because of the professor not because of the material.
ALOT of work, normally 4 assignments per week. He explains everything with good examples and is always willing to stay after class to help people.
He is not accomadating of students at all. He rushes through the slide presentations not allowing for time to clarify concepts. He is not approachable. To get any information from him you need to contact him via email. Stated in classes that class was a "fluff class", but his midterms were nothing like his lectures.
3 hour midterm! Blames "hard marking" on student marker when there was no room for the student marker to take/give marks since teacher's answer key was very cut and dry. Midterm avgerage = 54%. However, he does make class clear and interesting (as much as econ. can be)
terrible, boring and full of himself
fairly good class, the assignments help a lot in understanding the class and help increase your mark if you puit effort into them overall good class but can be kind fo boring from time to time but augustin is very helpful anytime you have a question
This class was really good. The material was difficult but he is pretty clear in getting the info across to students. You have to be paying attention though, because he lectures pretty fast. The online assignments were deadly, if you do them you are bound to get a good mark in the class. My ONLY complaint is that we used an American textbook.
He is great. You can't go wrong with this guy for Economics of sports because he loves sports. He had Rocky Butler come talk to us about being a pro athletes (albeit a CFL pro = trash) and contracts when it comes to supply and demand. I enjoyed it a lot and would highly recommend him to anyone!
Interesting class, good material but shaun think he is gods greates gift and is quite full of himself
Way too much work, he is a good prof, but assigns a huge workload. He also tends to lecture a little too slowly. Overall he is fair, and you do learn.
Shaun was very well organized, class ALWAYS started on time and usually finished before the set time (which is always a plus). He was very helpful with the material. He was will to go the extra mile if students needed it. I also found that going to class helped out alot, for exam purphases.
Overall a good professor and good class. The instructor made himself available to students both before and after class. He was very sincere in ensuring that students understood the material. With respect to marks, I would consider this instructor a fair and reasonable marker.
The Class was interesting & challenging. If you take Shaun's class as a summer course be ready to work hard - there is tons of work involved! He knew his stuff and would get very excited about some of the material. He was also able to relate the graphs back to real world examples to help clarify and explain their usage. Great Class Overall!
Both the slides & lectures suck. Very picky when marking; but still he is better than F. Dar.
Basically, Just do your homework and read the text provided and you will do fine.
Good class. Aplia is a good tool and Shawn used very good examples to drive the points home. I think the exams were fair. Alot of assignments, but I did them all and hardly studied for the test and still did very well. If you do the assignements, you will do good.
Because this was a night class it was very fast paced. There was almost too much work. I liked the use of the Aplia website to do the assignments. I would suggest covering less info so that there can be more time for explanations during the class time. Shaun was very knowledgable about the subject and used real world examples.
The professor lectured straight from the textbook which is not useful for helping with understanding the material or with assignments. It does not motivate me to go to class either. He also ended every class early which can be a bonus but in this case he could've taken the opportunity to go through/give hints on how to do the online assignments
may as well take an online class, all the assignments are online! horrible!
Usually finished early and was willing to help with questions.
I really enjoyed the class. The one thing that was a little annoying was having Sean constantly review our marks every class. He had gone over it in the first class and if somebody had missed that they could have asked. During the review of the midterm he spent an hour going over this and I felt like it could have been better spent on the materi

If you dislike online learning, then don't take from Shaun, he uses Aplia, which helps with the numerous assignments, but if you're one who learns from notes then don't take it from him. Helpful and entertaining, and you don't have to show up for class but he will at times talk about something not covered in the textbook.
He is the worst prof I have ever had. He caused so much unnecessary grief in my life that I reconsidered being a university student. STAY AWAY FROM HIM!
Good prof. He uses Aplia an online website for his assignments(awesome website). He is willing to help you if you have any questions for him. Be specific with your questions. His midterm is questions from Aplia but harder and you have to lengthen your answer from the normal multiple choice. I'd recommend to take this class.
I liked the structure of the lectures. I thought the class was very good, and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
The class is tedious and boring. He just used slideshows that are exactly like the textbook, which doesnt make the class any easier. He reads straight from the slides with the exception of examples. Studying is difficult because he never really emphasizes anything. I personally don't recommend him, especially if you are a first year student.
If you are taking this class because you find sports interesting turn around and run the other direction. His slides are lacking and he poorly explains the graphs. He sets up tests for students to do badly. Very exact in marking. He is arrogant and full of himself do not take this class.
Demanding feller....hardcore...don't dare trying to wear a bunny hug or jacket while writing midterms or he'll lose it. Go Oiler
Class is so boring, it is very difficult to make it through the class, just reads from the slides. Can easily just read the slides at home and you will only miss the odd example here and there. Not recommended.
I wish that Shaun was just a little easier. That being said, I have a 90% in his class right now. He warned the people failing ahead of time "this isn't rocks for jocks". I wish I could get him for other econ classes. Akhand is a world class **** and a brutal lecturer; try him if you think Shaun's bad.
This was a very boring class, he did nothing but read from the slides which made it impossible to develop a deep understanding of the subject matter. It was near impossible to not fall asleep which made going to class a waste of time as I could sit and home and read the text and retain the same amount of information.
The class has nothing to do with sports, material is easy but he tries to make it hard. Very borning to listen to don't go to class because you won't miss anything

Comes off as a little hostile, lectures are boring as dirt but he provides the slides ahead of time so feel free to not show up. Optional assignment was hilariously easy at least. THIS IS ROCKS FOR JOCKS ECON STYLE, don't let his claims otherwise fool you.
wow, lectures were all theory and his tests were all math, how does that work? He told us to study one thing for the final and tested us on another. This is not a beginner econ class, you have to know your stuff. Dont take this class if you dont have to, it killed my average.
very good
Probably the most interesting Econ class I have ever taken. He takes boring theory and makes it interesting by incorporating it into the sports world. If you want an econ class that just isn't dry theory but is easy to follow and enjoyable, take this class. Also, EXPOS RULE!!!
Don't bother with the text book. Overall pretty good. Kinda full of himself. Threw some curve balls on the final. Very approachable. Would recommend.
Good prof. Book is a waste of money.
This guy was awesome, he used a computer program for Econ 201 called aplia, and if you do the samples questions before the real questions you are pretty much guaranteed a grade of 90+ for 20% of your mark. He doesn't mark really hard on the final and mid-term if you know your stuff somewhat. Do the basic work and you'll get minimum an easy 70%.
Seems like the lazy type. All asignments are done on aplia which he doesn't need to correct anything. Entire class needs to purchase clickers 50$ each for attendance & little quizzes. So if we forget our clickers at home but do attend class we will be marked absent? Just ridiculous Y should he care if were in class? University is expensive enough!
When students take the time to participate in a market experiment on Valentines Day night and they ask you a question in regards to how much this experiment will be worth and all you say is read your course outline. That is pretty bad! This man can be described as one word "Arrogant".
Augusten is mostly a waste of space. He doesn't mark is own finals and mid-terms, he has all our assignments on this stupid "aplia" crap, which he also doesn't have to mark. He made us buy these god awful clickers, and he didn't even make his own notes! The copywrite for the guy who did write them are right on it! So, basically, I could teach the

If you plan to waste your university career then take this class with master flex.. Stay away from him, he is lazy and makes you purhcase clicks which is a complete piece of junk. You might as well do the reading and not show up to class he just reads his note off his power point which some goat wrote. Anybody can do his job, we pay for quailty edu
At first I thought his clickers and internet methods were rediculous... who wants to spend 50 bucks on a remote, but I actually found them easier in the end. The internet assignments are more organized and much easier to access than a written assignment. You can also check your mark at any time which is good. I would take another class from him.
Shaun was good and I would recommend him for those interested in econ. He was upfront and did not make exceptions for those that "thought" they were special. I didn't really like the clicker, but I did go to class b/c of it. Aplia was great-straight forward and let you apply what you were learning. When I had questions,Shaun was quick to respond.
Shaun is extremelly passionate about economics and that helps to get interested on the subject. He is also very knowledgeable.
Shaun is a really good prof. I absolutely hate economics and he managed to help me understand it and not loathe it so much. The online aplia assignments are much better than following a text and answering questions on your own. Overall if you have to take Econ, take it from him.
Brutal class, Most boring three hours i have ever had to sit through in my life. Useless clickers, and all he does is read off a powerpoint, that he didn't even write
The clickers and Aplia assignments were very useful to reinforce the texbook theory. Since the texbook is available on Aplia, those concerned about costs could forgo the purchase of the textbook and just pay the Aplia fee. I would take another class from this professor.
For this class you are required to buy a textbook, a subscription to a website and a clicker to prove your attending class. It's an expensive class but the constant homework makes you remember the information. Very boring class to sit through but its required if you want attendance marks.
Shaun is a good prof. He knows what he's talking about and is funny. It's not the easiest class, but he explains things thoroughly. He always makes sure that if you have questions, you can ask them. The clickers reinforce the material and the textbook is handy to have. Take econ from him
Easy class. He tried to make easy concepts seem hard and this made people overthink really easy questions (during quizzes).
I didn't really attend class, but only because I figured out I wasn't missing much. The use of Aplia to do your assignments is nice, because you can go back and do them over and over as study tools. He was readily available for questions outside of class, and gave tutorials prior to the final... Great Success!
not a bad guy. we did online assignments that were due every week- but it helps with your mark and understanding the material. hard midterms and finals which were worth alot.
didn't touch the textbook and i'm going into the final with a 74. he's really good at explaining but the 5000 assignments he gives us gets annoying. i don't have much bad to say except the assignment load and the stupid clicker... annoying!
so boring....everything online even the powerpoint stuff shown in class...no point going to class...come out of class more confused then going into it
Easy assignments, classes not necessary to go to, Mid terms very difficult, willing to help you if you ask
Lots of assignments but they really help reinforce the material. I found attending class to be helpful too, either way you have to read the slide so might as well go sit for an hour. And sometimes he says stuff that isn’t on the slides. The midterm was fair. I found it easy, but if you didn’t do the assignments it might be difficult.
Found his midterm easy and final hard. 22 chapters to know and is comprehensive. Your forced to buy a clicker to take attendance and tests in class which is $50 and only worth 5% of mark. Online program to do with 2 assigments a week and 4 market experiments. Final is worth 50%. I recommend another prof. Prof very cocky and unhelpful.
An easy course with a fairly big workload. Shaun did a good job teaching in class and the Aplia assignments hammered everything home. I think the clicker he made us buy for in-class quizzes is a good idea but the $50 hit was hard to swallow.
While there was a fair amount of work involved in this class, it prepared one very well for the final. I didn't enjoy paying for he clicker and Aplia, but the extra assignments did give me a much more involved understanding of microeconomics.
Didn't enjoy this class at all, did not like having to pay the extra money for the clicker and aplia, though I learned everything from aplia, didn't think the prof was that great of a teacher. He wasn't able to communicate the material very well. I only attended classes because of the attendance and inclass quizzes.
Pros: Really good teacher. Funny. Explains concepts well. Cons: Lazy. Makes students pay for remote controls and buy a registration for a website. He does not have to do any marking and it costs students a lot more for these unnecessary items. Teaches 20 chapters instead of the regular 10. But it's an easy class. If you keep up.
Easy class, easy material. Prof provides clear examples in class. Most of his MC questions are off of Aplia practice assignments. Lazy, prepare to fork over extra cash to write you class out of %100. Attendance marks. Anal about exam rules. Avoid if you can to save cash, not a terrible teacher though.
Class was easy because the prof is lazy and everything on the exams are straight for the Aplia website. Which was an expense that could be avoided if the prof could teach and was willing to mark the assignments. The clickers were a waste of money and again unessesary if the prof wasn't so lazy.
decent
Nice guy.Doesn't put up with people talking in his class so that's a plus.Everyone complaining about Aplia and the clickers are just penny pinchers.Aplia saved on what would have been loads of paper and the clickers made class interactive and interesting and provided incentive for actually going to class.=Less screwups that don't want to be there.

I feel horrible for actually taking this class, and using the Proprietary and Restrictive software known as Aplia. Aplia requires the use of flash, another restrictive program that no one should have to use. I was considerring minoring in econ, but If econ continues like this I'm never taking another econ class. I should have dropped this class.
Made economics fun challenged, us and the clickers made the class easy. Sure its a little more money, but by using it, understand 100% more. Good prof who gets good results. Plus he is easily approachable to get help.
Well done my good friend, well done!
Well, besides his apparent love for WII tennis, This prof is a really good one to choose! Not only do you stay informed but even if you don't understand the subject (and i definately didn't) he uses easy examples and is always down i you help! If you have to take an econ class, you should take it with Augustin!
Lots of work but it pays off when studing for midterm and final. He is a great teacher but likes to say "right" after every sentence, which can be annoying. He provides examples that helps students understand the concepts.
I took both introductry econonmics class with him. If you work hard you will get a great mark. Midterms and finals are extremely fair. He will tell you all the material you will need to know. I recommend taking his class great prof.
He is a nice guy with good intentions but I will not take a class from this professor again. Dislikes: class often runs late, Aplia assignments and in-class quizzes, very opionated, obsessive exam policies, expensive course material requirements
Highly Recommended. He is very approachable. Makes economics fun. The best Econ proff in the faculty. He actually cares about your success in the class. The quizes and assignments are not as bad as people claim. The assignments only take 15minutes versus other Econ classes where you only get 2 assignments that take 8 hours each ...
This was my second time taking this class and I found this prof extremely more helpful, and the use of aplia and the assignments made things easier to grasp. I would definately take another class from this prof.
Prof for both 201 & 202. I found his the easiest classes I've taken. Gives bonus and attendance marks, which combined are worth nearly 15% of your final grade!! Aplia online assignments are time consuming but not difficult. Truthfully Aplia is a way of keeping tuition costs down by not hiring graders and hiding the additional cost in textbook costs
Although this course is mandatory the content was interesting. More importantly the instructor delivered the material with exceptional clarity and focus creating a greater understanding and application of the subject matter.
Very nice guy. Aplia assignments are easy and suprising very helpful. He gives an outline for tests with example questions, which is very helpful. If you want to get a high mark in ECON take it from Augustin
Nice Prof. but too expensive, uses clickers that is really sucks, means you have attend every class.I took his class in spring, too much work oh and aplia sucks. and his marking is good.So I would not recommend this prof. if you are trying to save a few buck
Seans powerpoint notes are very good.class is comprised of him reading the powerpoint verbadum. His notes are posted online.Aplia assignments are time consuming but are helpful in understanding the material. 2-3 per week take an afternoon to finish. Midterm was fair. Don't bother going to class.I have a 90 going into the final & haven't hardly gone.
He teaches really quickly in class because he covers a lot of material, but if you attend lectures prepared, do the assignments he gives you, and study for the tests, there's no way you can do badly. He is extremely organized as well, which makes learning the material easier, and he posts everything online!
Great prof. Very organized, and online material made lecture very optional. Got 80% without attending 1 lecture. Very helpful, if I had any problems, just dropped him an email and had a very detailed explanation in less then a day.
He is a terrible prof. All he does is regergitate the textbook on to a powerpoint presentation. He doesn't relate anything to the real world, and relies heavily on Aplia. He needs to develop a brain and convince people he really knows what he is talking about and that he has a passion for it. I would not take another class from him..obviously.
The best alternative to Perry Martens, he's the best econ prof I've had so far! Aplia was a great online textbook and he was really nice and easy to contact. If 201 and 202 are mandatory classes for you, take it from this guy!
Great class, weekly assignments online relatively easy, accepts top 24/30. Two experimental assignments that aren't mandatory. 30% Midterm. 50% final. Class is very reasonable, and Mr.Augustin is a well defined teacher, who thinks in interest of his students. Wonderful Professor

Does not give breaks for 3 hour night classes. He tries to justify it by sometimes having 2 hour classes, but even so I'd rather have a 2 hour 10 minute class with a 10 minute break than a straight 2 hour (or sometimes 3 hour) lecture.
Boring class in general, but this prof was okay. Could barely stay awake during his class. Assignments on Aplia are good for bringing your mark up, though I don't think they really helped a whole lot for learning the material. I think he's too cocky, and his hair irritates me. Overall, since econ sucks, this guy was not too bad
Worst class ever!
Augustin is god! That is all.
Good presenter, doesnt mess around, only issue is that his class is all theory and the exams are all math. No examples given. Good class all in all though.
Really good prof. Helps out when you needs clarification. Discusses topics very well. Easy class. Wished: 1)he gave a break. 2)have slides that can open up in Microsoft powerpoint (so we customize the amount of slides put on a page, cut out the unneeded statistics, etc). 3)give an equation sheet on test, or at least for the harder equations
Be prepared to do nothing else but this for four months. The workload is heavy and filled with useless assignements you never get graded on but take hours every week to do. I hate economics now.
I really enjoyed this class. There are many assignments but you'll be glad you did them when you're preparing to write the mid-term and final exams. I definitely worked for my grade in this class but Shaun is very helpful and always willing to set aside extra time to help students. Overall, he is one of my favourite instructors.
lol, Yes beware the Cap. Morgan Pose. Tests and assgn. seemed easy till he went rank on the marking. Takes points off for having a coloured background in the graphs from excel. Like serious? Curves mostly everything. Overall avg. 70. M.C. were bad, that along with a $160 text. Boo!
average of 3 hard assignments weekly all done online. this is a poor way since you never have to show work you just use the mouse to move the graph. come the midterm informed that theres math questions and long answer when we've never covered any of it. worst prof for preparing you for the midterm.
requires 2-3 assignments per week so a total of 26 assignments. The midterm and final were hard. You also have to pay an additional $70 for this class because all assignments and notes are online and you have to pay for the online sight because the prof is too lazy to put his notes on UR courses and make his own assignmentsBoring prof I would avoid
Uses an online website for assignments, requireing efforts to do it well; however, it helps enhance the understanding of each Chapter's key concepts. Mid-term & final are a bit chanllenging, as it tests more realistic analysis using calculations and graphs. But in the end you will find it's worth it. Prof sets clear guidance on how to study.
Absolutely hated him. He is extremely boring. He had 27 assignments through the semester. His midterm was brutal. The final was tough but he must have curved it up a lot or I would not have passed.
Blunt, clear, and to the point. Shaun demonstrates a genuine concern for the performance of his students (even if it may be at the cost of their grade). Demanding course-load, yes, but with work, a strong understanding of the material is nearly assured. Once criticism is no "from scratch" assignments - all online work has graphs provided.
I have no doubt Shaun is extremely qualified for his day job but he was a complete disappointment for an economics teacher. He tends to drone on topics that he doesn't intend to test students on but skims on test and exam topics. Unless you are already and economics expert, there is really no point in taking his class.
The class may seem easy at first, however, he is a bit of nutcase when it comes to exams. He has an odd way of making up questions. And he's super anal over certain calculators for exams.
If you don't mind working for your mark, this is the guy for you. If you actually find the subject interesting it's not a bad class at all. And for everyone complaining about the Aplia charge, that subscription also gets you the online e-book so it's really no different than having to buy a textbook.
I have taken 2 courses: Econ 202 and Sport Economics. Both classes were amazing! Shaun is well prepared and structures course materials to reinforce learning. His assignments and Exams are challenging; however, if you put the work in, there is no way you can fail this course. He is very passionate which kept me awake and engaged and was helpful
Anyone who has said anything negative about this prof was clearly someone who tried to ride through the class and get easy marks. It sucks that some of those people actually make it through university. Shaun is an awesome prof and Aplia only aids in teaching the students. Would definitely take another econ class from him if i had the opportunity.
Teaches right out of the textbook, but if asked for extra examples he'll provide them. Aplia is useless, questions on exams are application style and if one doesn't study one will do poorly. Good overall, but a little bit intimidating sometimes. If he puts something on the board, it's important.
so much fun. examples from the world of today. applicable to real-life. one problem though, he gives no breaks whatsoever and on top of that his lecture is so interesting that you don't want to miss a few minutes in the bathroom!
There is no doubt that he is so passion with teaching students and doing this job; it's not an easy class but if you really want to learn something, he is a good choice for you cause you need to work hard and understand the material by yourself.
This professor was very well connected to the class and related extremely well! He ensured everyone knew the expectation on how to achieve success. He provided extremely good instruction and knew the material providing great examples. This classs added to my understanding of how the markets work. Enjoyed the class!
He was a very good prof and really seems to love his job. He marks hard so you have to make sure everything on the exams are done perfectly, but is fair on the content he examines.
He is a good professor overall.
Probably one of the worst prof's at the university. Goes way to fast through the notes, uses whiteboard markers that don't work and won't get new ones. Tells the class if your not smart you will fail the class. Doesn't help when you ask questions regarding assignment or test. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM! Drop the class if you have him!!!!!!
Shaun covers a lot of material in his lectures so make sure to attend class. The class requires hard work as the exams are difficult. Overall I enjoyed the class and Shaun explained everything very well. Quickly responds to any questions that you may have.
I found this class to be extremely frustrating!!! Even though I passed, I found the prof to be very hard to approach and favoured the engineers in the class always making jokes about how smart the engineers are. I was very discouraged.
I wouldn't recommend him.
He is a very good speaker and can keep your attention for the entire three hour night class. Explained the concepts clearly and was approachable. Would recommend to anyone who hasn't taken an econ class
I felt the course info he reviewed at each class was not helpful when it came time to complete the midterm and final. He lectures the entire 3 hours and there is no interaction, boring!! His exams did not reflect the weekly tests we were given. Worst class and Prof so far!
Tough prof and a tough class. There are 17 assignments online that reflect the textbook well but don't help at all with the exams. Shaun is good at answering questions but he expects you to know material way beyond the realm of a 200 level class. Your grade will not reflect the countless hours you spend on homework for this class.
Shaun has a day job, so his lectures are always evenings. He is passionate about economics and it shows in class. He had notes nearly every class which are NOT in the textbook, so don't skip class. His exams are real-life examples and not similar to the assignments on MyEconLab. The best way to get extra help is to email him; he responds quickly.
I think he is a great guy and loves Economics! I was intimidated at the beginning with the course load. But if you put some time to it it is well worth it and you WILL LEARN A LOT! He marks very fairly and puts in a lot of prep work to his classes - it is evident through and through.... Will recommend!
Shaun is very passionate about economics. Goes through a great deal of material. Expects students to be able to grasp concepts rather than memorizing material. Weekly assignments are easy grades, midterm was tough but good studying and preparation make it easier. Very long classes with no breaks. Assuming the textbook would help but didn't buy it.
Of all the economics classes I have taken, this one has been the best. He clearly explains concepts and applies it to real-life situations. The assignments were easy, but helpful. 80% of the course was midterm and final. I would recommend.
Very knowledgeable about the subject. He explains the material well and makes it relatable. The assignments were not difficult and helped my understanding. The tests were difficult and he expected you to know the material very well and was not very forgiving with the marking, but it was not unfair. Would take another class from him.
If you are an econ major, this is a good prof to take as he actually makes you do the math which is a huge part of econ, yet so many profs skip over it. It does mean you will have to work relatively harder, though, as you must truly learn and apply concepts. If you are not an econ major and/or don't like math and/or want an easy grade, avoid.
Good prof. Does his best to engage the class. The 3 hour class would go until a bit over 2 hours which was nice. Exams are simple (do the in-class examples and you're good to go). Only issue was the "assignment". Was always called assignmt then at the review he said "most treated this like an assignmt, it was supposed to be a research paper."
His exams are hard and long. One short question is one page long. I wouldn't recommend this prof and will avoid him in future!
Excellent professor, that knows the subject very well. I like that he has job experience and relates his lectures to real life examples. Very fair when grading and he makes sure that he does everything he can to make his students understand his lectures and learn during the process.
As long as you plan out when to do the assignments in time for the deadline its easy He helps you via email as long as you genuinely attempted the questions first. The only critique I have is that the textbook has very basic examples but the assignments are significantly harder so you have to teach yourself through trial and error most of the time
Shaun was pretty good in general. Sometimes the grading felt unnecessarily nit-picky and expectations were not always as clear as they should've been, but nothing so bad that you couldn't manage.
Taking a class online with Shaun has been disastrous. He does not actually build his own lectures online, just relies on Sapling to deliver assignments, leaving us to read the textbook. The textbook barely helped me out and I was forced to go to the internet for a lot of help. His midterm and final exams were tragic.
Took this class online (ECON 201) and received over an 85%. Listen to the SAPling and do your assignments. Literally the SAPling assignments are the same questions on the exam (just in different wording). If you are not prepared to teach yourself then don't take the online version as most of it was listening to the videos. Great class!
Shaun is the worst prof. His lectures are really boring and only really goes over the background information and not stuff he actually tests on. There is 26 sample questions that will be tested on and nothing else. Nobody I have talked to even likes him. I don't know who her sometimes get half decent reviews on here.
Shaun is an excellent teacher that provides ample resources in order to help his students learn. These include detailed powerpoints and video explanations of how to solve problems. Attendance is not crucial, but does help understand trickier concepts. The research paper (worth 30%) is a grind, but the midterms are easy if you answer his practice Qs
I think the people who have given him 5's are either joking or intentionally pushing others through the pain of taking his class. His class attendance is less than 5%, that sums up how his classes are, absolutely terrible and horrible prof, we students deserve better teachers at uofr than this absolute trash, you will teach yourself it all!
As someone who is not a business major and was taking this class to get my certificate, this class was my nightmare. Even barely taught, just read slides. Didn't teach math problems so assignments were hard. exams were tragic bc they were harder than the sample questions. I have beef with this class.
Shaun Augustin is a great professor! He put a lot of efforts to help students understand the materials. I would like to take his class agian!
Be prepared to do your own research on topics as he does not give complete responses.
Pros: Slides are useful and are made available to students. Cons: One major assignment (30%) - a paper. Its marked heavily, feels like an English assignment. Lecture is longer than originally listed as - 30 extra minutes a week. Probably to make up for the whats the best baseball movie quizzes- that you are required to pay $$ to access.
hes a tough grader but outlines what exactly what he is looking for in the assignments, hes got a major assignment at the end which is a grind but interesting. He is funny, consistently making jokes, but makes you pay for an extra software which is mandatory for 10% quizzes but they are super easy.
I struggled with the materials at the start as I found the first half are foreign to me. Topics after the finals and final materials will get easier as the topics turned from theories to a more macro-level where you see the bigger picture. Shaun will intimidate you at first but as you get used to him, he becomes more approachable. Study smart!
good prof. less homework and easy exam
He makes purchase top hat just to ask you question about previous nfl, cfl, nhl, etc stats. He test you 10 times harder than the what actually he shows on his example which are very minimum. Focuses too much on background and reading slide with almost nothing to practice in class. Very disappointed with this class.
Seems like a nice guy but I just can't give a rating higher than 1 to any prof who assigns questions that were never covered in the class or the textbook. Unfortunately he doesn't understand the difference between making difficult questions that require studying study to get right and questions that you couldn't get right even if you did study.
He tries too hard to make his multiple choice questions tricky but it goes beyond reason to the point that his wording of the questions start to not make any sense.
His sample questions are super hard it's true but struggling on these questions is what helps you gain a deeper understanding. If you actually spend time and rack your brain on these sample questions, everything actually makes more sense when he posts the answers after the due date and you will actually be pretty confident going into the exam.
His sample questions are super hard but if you do them you will be set for the mid-term and finals. Also you only have to attempt the questions to get grades, it doesn't matter if you did it wrong as he wants you to be challenged. Overall, he is a very good prof and I would take him again!
Provides students with all of the tools they need to get a good grade in the course. The material is difficult, so students must do the readings and practice questions. Tests are very similar to the practice question material. There is a lot of content to sort through so be prepared to read. Sean is easy to reach outside of class. Would take again.
Make you buy another app that cost 70$+, doesn't help or is never considerate about grades. Don't take him, makes everything so hard for no reason.
He has the potential to be awesome - organized, knows his material. But he's very unpleasant - no empathy at all. He prioritizes his own comfort. He repeatedly states that he works full time and accordingly is not flexible with office hours and exam times. I had two other profs who also worked other jobs who were extremely flexible and helpful.
It was a very organized and well-structured class. He provides sample exam questions, and if you study them, you will do good. This is not an easy course, but he explains concepts well in the lecture videos. At times, he came across as slightly rude/passive-aggressive over email, but overall, I am glad I took this course with him.
The course material is a lot but, if you spend time on the practice q's you'll do great on the test. The paper is time-consuming but, you learn how to perfect your papers and will help you in other classes. He is a good prof but also is a little heartless and will not appreciate asking dumb questions such as material he has already reviewed..
This professor does not care for his students in the slightest. For our big paper I would ask him questions and instead of trying to help me understand what to do, he would insult my intelligence. He almost wanted to see me do poorly on my paper whenever I did ask him a question.
Although I prefer his courses in an online format, Augustin is always on top of stuff and has the experience to prove it. Midterm and Final were hard, but the assignments, pop quizzes and his teaching style prepares you all for it. Also very easy to talk to if you have any questions.
Proctortrack
Do the textbook assignments, practice questions, and show up for office hours if you have questions. If you don't do this, good luck. If you have the even the slightest work ethic, this class is easy. Don't complain when you aren't able to coast through without doing anything. Shaun is very helpful, clear, and a great guy. He made it interesting.
The prof provides tons of resources, but can come across as inflexible. Still, the content is well-structured, and with dedicated studying using the practice questions and unstuckstudy AI, you can do well. Not an easy A, but worth the effort.
I didn't really like the professor, and the midterm exam was three hours long! I felt he was a tough grader, and the curve was definitely necessary.
If you did not do well in ECON100, this class will be challenging but Shaun is really good at teaching the material in a way students can comprehend. Opportunities for extra credit.
Very smart in subject matter harder time breaking down to explain the why
Made the midterm 3 hours long.Midterm was open book but still had to use proctortrack, so stupid.
Really good professor. Wasn't a fan of the required textbook at first but the way it's integrated with the course is nice, you get free grades essentially. Material was very difficult but Shaun outlines everything in great detail and curves the grades accordingly.
Shaun really makes you work your grade, but he gives you every resource you need to be successful in the course. Anyone in his class should do the sample questions, as I was able to fly through exams after review of sample questions. Gives 10% extra marks if you submit the paper in advance and replaces your midterm grade with your final if higher.
This class was not very enjoyable. Lectures are essentially useless as he only tests based on sample questions he provides. If you really work on those you will be fine. He also has a 15+ page paper that is so brutal. He's a nice guy but this class was brutal.
I have taken 2 classes from this prof, this prof has specific style of grading which will allow yourself to catch up in finals. He knows what he is doing. If you are a willing learner, then go for it. It's worth taking.
Took this for my Econ certificate. This class was a grind! Exams are tough but he curves them pretty substantially. The paper assignment… dont even get me started. However you can earn a bonus 10% though by handing in the paper a week early. In hindsight, I would not have taken this class. If you are lazy, (such as myself), dont bother.
