Nice, easy, doesn't prepare you for 212, but overall a nice guy!
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE A PSYCH MAJOR! This is his first semester teaching here and he is TERRIBLE! You will not learn anything! He's very unorganized, his power points are boring. He has an annoying boston accent and everything about his teaching is focused on him not the students. He has no sympathy and he doesn't care if you don't understand!
horrible teacher!! he is sooooooooo boring it's not even funny. i look around and 90% of the people are playing games on their computer. it's almost impossible to listen to him. he does nothing but powerpoint every single class. test wise he curves BIG time, but i don't know if it was just with my class. he is just boring as all heck!!
real fair grader and clear. topic is boring but he tried to make it inetesting. when i went for help he was very good and spent as much time as i needed.
ONE OF THE BEST! The class was fun and interesting. Does use powerpoint but class discussion and stuff are good. Gives a lot of different kinds of assignments and is fair with them. Wish I could take him next semester.
He's GOOD. I was scared of the class before taking it, but he made it fun and interesting. He had good examples and helped with all my questions.
i like how he has us vote on test formats. he tests can be tough but he grades fair.
Lots of good, clear examples. the meetings are quick, easy points but he uses them to help out the students. Looking at the brain was cool and some of the lab stuff is fun.
had some fun labs and classes. i liked jeopardy alot. his meetings are easy but not useless, he seems to make good use of them. he spends plenty of time helping outside of class, no complaints there. wished he gave out his powerpoints.
So fun! I would def. take him again. He seems to know EVERYTHING. He can go a bit slow but other than that I thought he was really good.
Dr. Cook was great! He was much clearer than the book and has great powerpoints. The different stuff we did in class made it kinda fun. The toughest parts were the exams and article presentations. I had to study the book and notes. The reviews helped.
Fun and Fair! He lets you vote on your test style. You do 2 lab write-ups, 2 pop quizzes, 2 in-class assignments (you get to drop lowest score), and one article presentation. He made sure you understood the material, and has fun experiments to suppliment learning. Take him if you need an advanced lab!
Great teacher all around! Very clear and consice with his lectures, lots of visual aids, and his teaching methods appeal to all types of learners.
you have 3 tests, two in-class lab write-ups, two pop quizzes, and two lab write-ups. energetic professor...would recommend this course
All around a good professor. He gives three tests and all of the information is in the book and he sometimes takes questions from the book's companion site. He is a lot of fun and encourages all types of questions - even the dumb ones.
Doesn't allow make-ups and is very stuck in his way of thinking. If your grandmother dies don't expect him to give any sympathy
Did a good job with the stats stuff. I took it before and didn't get it all but w/Dr.Cook I got it. Some labs were fun. BTW, I did make up an exam in his class.
I had Dr. Cook for his Applications of Biopsychology and Cognitive Psychology classes. Really good guy, and a clear and concise lecturer. He has a bit of an odd personality which might rub some people the wrong way, but I think he's just quirky. Easy to talk to, beware his tests though. They'll be difficult if you sleep on them.
Great professor, very knowledgeable. Very flexible with the syllabus and you choose your exam format. However he grades very subjectively. You can talk just as much as the next person and get a 91 while they get a 99 for participation. Same with debates, presentation, etc. Exams are hard!
never thought stats would be my favorite class but it was mostly b/c of dr. cook.
Really awesome guy. I took him for both stats classes and he helped me so much and not just with stats. We talked about classes to take, job stuff, studying habits and more! He was always there and willing to help. I will take whatever other classes I can with him.
Hard class (in my opinion, no matter which professor you take), but Dr. Cook is very helpful. Make use of his office hours!
Human memory class was awesome! Didn't seem like 3 hours a day. Time flew with the discussions, debates, and stuff. REAL interesting.
Will help as much as you need in office hours. Exams are tough and READ THE BOOK. I liked the voting and the class itself but stil hate stats.
Great professor. 1 ppt. presentation, 2 lab reports, 4 pop in-class assignments (drops lowest), 3 tests (including final). has a participation grade & is serious about it. great person. i didn't like the material and i found it difficult but he makes it better.
Like the voting. Like the labs, kinda fun. Don't like the group work. Don't like presenting. Don't like tests, kinda hard. Has some gimme points-the meeting points but not participation points, he tracks those. Like him a lot, really helpful and nice.
Would not recommend this professor, he seems to play favorites, grades very subjectively & his teaching style is confusing at times because he rambles all over the place. would not take another class with him & would not recommend.
The material is hard but he helps with the stuff he explains. The animations and the activities are super helpful. Will explain anything and give you all the feedback you want if you ask.
Pretty enthusiastic teacher! And he's funny. I genuinely enjoyed his classes; yes, classes plural. I took a bunch with him so I absolutely recommend him.
I DID NOT want to take this class. He didi a good job of keeping things straight and it mostly always made sense. Tests can be tough but i think it was cause I didn't read the book. He fair and Id take another class with him.
Would rather have taken this with Dr. Luek. Tests are so difficult, which I don't understand. The material (physiological psychology) is hard enough! He's a great person though, and very funny. 2 exams (midterm&final), 1 ppt. presentation, multiple pop quizzes and writing assignments (lowest gets dropped), etc.
just love him! you have to definitely speak up and participate in class. pay attention and listen. look at book if you're confused after class. overall he's great and encourages you to come to him for help. will give current grade and feedback if you ask. funny. nice. class is so fun and enjoyable.
He was a great teacher,
tough class but learned alot. good prof. cares. fair.
My favorite thing about Dr. Cook is how he encourages students to take advantage of his office hours. He will go over your grade with you, help you through anything you are confused with, & academically guide you in the right direction. He's definitely not easy. Great professor to prep you for graduate school. Make sure to study hard.
Dr. Cook is really special. He helps out and gives alot to his students. He spends time to make sure you get it. His does have standards and expectations so read, study, and go to class and to lab. I do feel ready for 212 now and am no longer scared of stats :)!
He is a great professor, but his tests are hard. Study the book, notes and whatever other materials from the class. Interesting class, he's funny but he is a great professor. He always answers questions, and answers them thoroughly.
Very enthusiastic about what he teaches. He is very funny and a wonderful teacher. I wish he taught more courses.
Very enthusiastic and comical professor and knows what he's talking about. Will test your knowledge but you will learn. STUDY STUDY STUDY! His tests are very tricky and you have to be prepared for anything. You get to vote for the test format. Kind of too smart for his own good.
Go to EVERY CLASS. STUDY HARD, and OFTEN. This is a very smart passionate professor who will route you if you're a slacker. If you want to learn and be challenged take him, especially if you're a psych major. Reminded me of " House" in both intelligence and sarcasm. He grades fairly, exam/quiz oriented. Read your freaking book! Dedicate your time!
You must read the book but he explains things well and will go to great lengths to help you understand BUT you must ask questions. Lots of pop quizzes. Participate in class. Tests are hard but class chooses the format.
Dr. Cook is definitely one of my favorite professors in the Psych department. His tests are very challenging, but the class is interesting and fun. He favors students who participate. The book is a good supplement to the class, for the most part. Just go to class and study really hard, basically. Very enjoyable!
Absolutely love this prof. He makes class interesting with his humor and he really gets how to explain things. Tests can be hard and long, but he is always willing to answer questions or re-explain things to prepare you for them. Actual participation is graded out of 100 points, pop quizzes & writing assignments, TAKE HIS CLASS!!
This stuff doesn't matter. You can't do a mean analysis on ordinal data. Just take him. You'll be fine.
Dr. Cook is very passionate about statistics. His tests are very hard, but he let's you choose the layout for them (Don't pick truefalse!). There are pop quizzes and writing assignments, but if you keep up with reading assignments you'll do fine. He has a good sense of humor that makes the class more enjoyable. Make sure you go to class!
Dr. Cook is simply amazing. He's a wealth of knowledge and makes learning fun and enjoyable. Super inspirational and I would love to take his class again. Honestly, if you pay attention in class, lab, and read the textbook, his tests aren't hard. Be ready to get "cooked!"
Pop quizes and writing assignments. Two lab reports. Tests are very hard, I studied so much and got 70% however I'm usually A-B student. Attend class. Nice guy and awesome. Just tough class.
dr cook does a good job, considering online. helpful with comments, especially in the discussions. makes you think. exams are tough, but fair. make sure to participate in all ways. does group assignments, too. learned as much from him as from the book.
so intersting. dr cook makes you aware of stuff you did not know or tohught you knew but didn't. applies the material, especially since its memory and we are studying alot for school.
His tests are awful! He takes random sentences from the textbook and turns them into test questions. Do not take an online class from him either.
His tests are super hard. He makes you think that you're getting a good deal cause you get to pick the format of your tests but they're inmpossible anyway. two lab reports are due the week OF finals and he only gives you the data two weeks before they're due. Gives pop quizzes and in class writing assingments. overall, the course is hard.
This class wasn't bad until the last two weeks of the semester. If you read and take notes of the chapters the tests aren't bad but reading is rough. He grades hard for participation but doesn't take attendance but he notices if you don't talk. Two random reports the week of finals were the worst part of the class.
dr cook was good, espcially for online. his comments in the discussions give good information. he does alot of teaching here. i had him for cognitive not online, and he is better in person, but i like face2face classes better. his tests are hard but he grades fairly. if you ask him questions or for feedback, he gives you a ton
Cool! Great!
human memory was fun online course. learned alot about memory, and it's different from what i thought. does fun online activities. be sure to discuss and study for tests because they have a time limit.
I FINALLY get this stuff!!!!! After taking 211 a couple of times, Dr. Cook was able to make it make sense. He explains things in ways you can understand. Do a favor to yourself and take him. Plus, he is pretty funny.
Allows you as a class to choose format of exams. Never, never pick True/False. 3 exams, pop quizzes & assignments. Don't learn anything in lab with the group questions almost every other or so lab periods. Not very informative about the project proposal. However, he is hilarious and does ask you have any questions. Has a very good poker face.
Dr. Cook is an awesome prof. He makes lecture funny and will explain things as many times as he needs to so you can understand it. A little unclear on grading and gives no extra credit. I actually enjoyed this class. READ THE BOOK!!! Do the practice problems as they do help prepare for the exam. Take him, study, ask questions and you'll pass.
Dr C gives good info in his posts and w/the assignments he makes u do. I learned alot. He makes group stuff reasonable for online classes.
Human memory was a cool, great class. The stuff I thought I knew, man was I off on some of it. Cook does a great job explaining stuff and responds to any questions with good info. online but I t still learned stuff. Looking for other classes to take with him.
This class was so hard. His point system felt like it didn't match up. Didn't give assignments back or feedback. Couldn't keep track of grade. Would never take a class with him again. Felt stupid in the class. The pace is fast so try to keep up.
neuropsychology was good. i am not ab ig online fan, but dr. cook was always ready and responded to my questions and email, and i sent him alot (sorry dr.c). the mystery diagnosing tasks were cool.
Very tough class, you need to thoroughly read the entire book and study a lot to do well. Come to every class and pay full attention. Save time for two long and difficult lab reports that will be assigned at the end of the semester. No homework or outside work other than the lab reports and studying. Nice, funny guy who explains things well
Dr. Cook was nice, but a STICKLER when it comes to late work. If it's not turned in strictly within the school's assignment time limit, he won't even read it, so if you didn't do it on time, don't even bother. His inflexibility and slow grading turn around was a bit annoying for an online grad class. I wouldn't take another of his classes.
Don't believe the rating below this one - 536 is not online. No part of it is online, it is all face2face. And there is no homework in the class. Not sure what that student was rating. Dr. Cook is pretty funny and does a good job of teaching the concepts in an applicable way. I really enjoyed the course, even though I did not expect to.
I took adult years online over summer. pretty god for an online class. I liked fixing wikipedia's mistakes and the other outside activities were kinda fun :)
this was human memory all online. i learned a bunch and was surprised a bunch. the class is overall good. make sure to read the syllabus and participate. the group assignments were ok. it was cool to fix wikipedia.
The notes are heavy and the exams are long if you don't read the book and spend a LARGE amount of time studying you're going to get a bad grade. He lets you pick the format for the exams it makes it unbearable to figure out how to study for. My opinion, he's a rough guy and if you didn't like Dr. Banna you wont like him.
Must read about 4 chapters for each of 3 tests. You will get about a D-C on tests w/o throughly reading book. You will read most of the text. Pop quizzes & writing assignments, keep ahead with reading book or you will not do well on these. Journal article presentation. 2 surprise lit review papers @ end of semester. Hope u know ur stats 211 & 212
Neuropsych was super intersting. The disorders are crazy but good to learn about. Dr. Cook taught this all online but meet personally with me and some of my group members, too. He is helpful and really knows his stuff.
I finally understand stats. Took it multiple times b4, but Cook explains it so much better. I get it.
Make use of his office hours and ask questions if you have any. Make sure to read your textbook, but it is one of my favorite classes I ever took. Dr. Cook is a worthwhile professor who
You MUST read the textbook. There will be things on the test that was never discussed in class. ASK questions. See him for office hours. If you put in the time its an easy pass. Watch out for pop quizzes and essays which are random. He is very smart and knows what he is doing. Take him over bana any day!
tough online but he made it work
human memory online was a good class. learned alot, and the stuff was cool to learn. Dr. C is caring and will help if you ask for it. he knows his stuff cold, and makes online work.
This is by far the most work heavy class I've taken in my 3 years at MU and it's a gen ed. He makes you read so much (the textbooks are free) and you have to work on 3 group assignments but are only allowed to communicate on D2L or he gets pissed. Basically told me TS when one of my group members never communicated with us and hasn't done one thing
I am a business major, but liked the psychology. Free texts. Individual and group work, and a few tests. There are online assignments, too. His D2L is well done, and better than most.
this class was all about group projects 3 to be exact and responding to discussion question Not very flexible to work with test are often very hard and have material we never covered on the test if you do not read everything or answer the try this you will fail PARTICIPATION MATTERS FOR SURE
If you want a class that is easy to pass, turn around. You won't find it here. If you don't do his "try this" activities you will fail.
This class is the hardest class I have taken so far at Millersville. It was a bad decision to make this an asynchronous class. He is not specific about the criteria for assignments and never puts grades in so I do not know what my grade is in this class. Heavy workload. Taking 400 and 300 level classes that are WAY easier and less work than this.
This is just a general review of Cook. I had him for 3 classes and hes by far one of the best professors in the psych department. His lectures are fun and informative, hes caring, and he doesnt make you feel stupid. If hes teaching a class you need, take him over the options. You wont regret it.
I was literally set up for failure by this "professor". I guess being a professor and a teacher are two different things. Initially, I chose a topic that I didn't know fit the criteria for cognitive disorder in children. It is actually a mood disorder. In a frantic, I responded to his request to select another topic, Alzheimer's Disease. Approved?
I had to take him for psych 211 and it's so stressful. He didn't respond to emails much and wasn't great at answering questions. I have to take his class again for 212 and I'm not looking forward to it. I almost failed with the proposal and am terrified of 212's project. I felt like an idiot in that class.
I took Dr. Cook for Summer 1. His course consists of two exams, a presentation, and two major papers, which is a proposal and a research paper. He also gives students pop writing assignments and quizzes, so be prepared for that! He tries to be funny, but his jokes come out as snarky and unnecessary. If you have no other choice, take his class.
Half the class was confused about what was going on constantly. Very vague instructions and no one knew what their grade was throughout the semester.
Dr. Cook might be the best professor I've ever had. He's is really great at explaining things so you understand. He made class interesting as well. I took it in Summer one so it was accelerated. Just pay attention and participate in class and you will be fine. He does pop quizzes and pop writing assignments. There's two long papers as well.
Dr. Cook was very engaging and straightforward in his expectations for exams. The exams were difficult and the essays were strictly graded but the class was still manageable with good attendance.
Honestly top 5 professors in the psychology department. He has helped me through stuff he doesn't need to, since he isn't my advisor. If you pay attention and actually try in his class he will recognize it. But do NOT rely on his lectures for the exams you need to read the textbook if you want to pass.
liked the memory class. interesting and had to think about different things. cook makes you look at things in unexpected ways. definitely participate and do the activities and read for the tests
Dr. Cook is a smart guy. Unfortunately, not the best teacher. He is not afraid to fail people and doesn't really care about student success. If this kind of stuff doesn't come easily to you, you may need a tutor for him. Take Gallagher if you can.
good class
The subject itself isn't hard. Cog psych is very interesting. I actually looked forward to reading the textbook. However, Dr. Cook made the course harder than it had to be. He gave pop quizzes, which is diabolical to do in college. And you can't make them up. The questions on the tests were unnecessarily confusing, and he doesn't posts grades.
This was, by far, the hardest class I've ever taken. I cried about this class every single day for three months. His exams are panic-attack-inducing and his papers are graded with a microscope. Your final presentation is a humiliation ritual. If you are actively involved and trying in class, he will notice. READ THE TEXTBOOK. Very funny guy though
