Great professor, makes class very interesting! Does fun demonstrations and brings outside influences relevant to class

He keeps lectures interesting and talks from beginning to the end, which means I am getting my moneys worth. His tests are well-written and this is not a class you can get by in without opening the textbook. It's a very large lecture. Way too many freshman in the class. I recommend taking it as early as possible in your collegiate career.

I think Professor Vicera is very talented and easy to understand. One thing that I have noticed and that is bothering me is that he says "sort of" alot!!! Otherwise, great professor!

This is my favorite lecture. Vercera is always clear with what he says, there is not ambiguity. He always ties in mini experiments into lecture, and its never boring. Everything he says is relative to the book and will be used on the test. If you pay attention in lecture and take good notes you will do just fine!

This class needs a study guide for the quiz, with main points that need to be covered. It will help prepare us for the exams and drives a higher interest rate in the class if people are doing well. Study guides are a must.

He's really fun to listen to, providing comic relief here and there through out the lectures. Easier to understand if you attend every lecture, although I don't feel like it's ABSOLUTELY necessary to get a decent grade. The tests are tricky, you need to read each question very carefully, but they're fair.

I really enjoy going to his lectures everyday. He is really interesting and keeps you engaged the whole time. If you listen in lecture and do the readings, you will do really well in the class and it isn't too hard. If you get a chance, definitely take a class taught by Professor Vecera

He is one of the best lecturers I've had. It was obvious that he cared about the subject and wanted his students to learn. Most of his lectures are pretty interesting. It's important to go to lectures and take notes, they're definitely on the tests. Follow the paper directions EXACTLY or you'll lose points, overall they're easy though.

Vecera is one of the best instructors I've had so far (although I'm still a freshman). His lectures were clear, and he framed both exam questions and in-class material in a way that really helped my memory. I was not sure if I was interested in psychology before I took his class, but I'm signed up for another psych class this semester.

GREAT teacher. The lecture outlines are available online and using the outlines are the easiest way to succeed in the class. The TA I had along with Vecera were both extremely helpful and available outside of class. Exams are easy if you pay attention in class. Papers are easy if you follow the outline. Fantastic gen-ed.

Prof. Vecera keeps us (his students) updated with important information, clarifies things excellently, and is always available during office hours. He makes learning fun and still challenges us, which I love. I also appreciate the way he incorporates music into his lectures, I always look up the songs afterwards. Fun class, great professor.

Professor Vecera is the most wonderful teacher I've had at the UI so far my Freshman year. His class demonstrations and lectures are always light and worth attending. If any student has to take Psych, Vecera is the man to go to.

Fun class, he didn't always finish lectures and I felt like some of the info on the test wasn't covered in class or discussion and wasn't in text book. The class was interesting, but I have decided I dont ever want to take another psych class. The info is very tedious and test questions were very similar.

The best lecturer I've ever had. Seriously, take his class over the other guy. He is a great lecturer and does really cool activities in class. Exams are literally straight from the notes, just go to class. Reading the book is pointless.

Very entraining professor and is very clear with the information that he presents ! The tests are heavily lecture based so lecture attendance is mandatory, but with a bit of studying and lecture attendance, your bound to be successful ! Experiments and presentations in class are sooo legit and fun as well !

I enjoy the material that is presented in lectures, but I do not agree with having to obtain 8 hours of studies when this is only a 3s.h. course.

Lectures are always very good... it's great seeing a class that's as entertaining as it is interesting! That the instructor has a sense of humor doesn't hurt either. Tests can be a little tricky, but there's nothing on them that wasn't covered in lecture and there are plenty of review sessions. Research exposure is an unexpected plus. Recommended!

Vecera makes the class interesting-plays songs at the beginning of each lecture, demonstrations for almost every class, good sense of humor. Just go to lecture-the thing he's tricky about is the key definitions he discusses in lecture. He doesn't highlight and bold them for you..but you can't miss them if you're looking for them, either. Fun class.

Professor Vecera is by far one of the best professors at Iowa. He's very clear in what he is talking about, as well as very passionate about psychology. Tests are hard, but not impossible. Majority of the test is based on what we've learned in lecture, little from book. If you go to lecture and take good notes, you are going to do well. Love him!

I like the clear cut structure to this class. I feel challenged, yet prepared for exams. I'm not bored listening to lecture or attending discussion. This class is great. The lectures are really interesting and I enjoy going to class. The first test was difficult even though I studied because of how detailed the questions were. That being said, I really hate my discussion TA. She doesn't reply to e-mails, she doesn't speak loud enough, and I don't think she covers her material well.

Good speaker, infomercial host material. Think he botched the sexual orientation lecture. He repeatedly emphasized and lumped gender identity with sexual orientation. Also did not think it was necessary how he not so subtly implied his own heterosexuality during the sensation lecture that followed sexual motivation lecture.

Love this class! Vercera teaches it very well; he really knows his topic. The textbook is interesting, but not all that helpful. Just pay attention in lecture AND in discussion. Also, memorizing flashcards WILL NOT help you on the test. Be prepared to have an in depth and practical knowledge before every exam. However, they're not all that hard.

Don't really need the text book unless you want to do review questions before the test, but he doesn't even cover everything in the book. His lectures are entertaining because he often has games and demos. Just listen to what he says rather than typing exactly what he has on the screen. What he says is more important than what he writes.

Vecera is a great lecturer. Always manages to keep things interesting. Just be sure to take down his lecture notes, they won't be online. If you study those diligently and understand the concepts and how to apply them, the class should be a breeze.

I have heard from many students that Psychology was hard, but hardly believed them. Now I understand what they mean. If you do not take notes during lectures, then you will not pass. You must pay attention and really try to understand what he is saying. If you think you need extra help, then get it.

Honestly my favorite class this semester- makes me look forward to Wednesdays and Fridays. Pay attention in class (both lectures and discussions), take detailed notes, go to him if you need clarification, and you'll get an A on the test with or without the curve. Only gripe: a few questions on the test from discussions weren't covered well.

Expectations are that you've read and understood to a certain extent what is going to be talked about in lecture. However, if you haven't read, his lectures have enough to them that you are still able to get his main points.

Questions on exam come straight from material covered in lecture or discussion. As long as you show up, pay attention, and take good notes you will do fine. Also helps a lot to read the book before lecture to keep up and understand what is going on.

This is my favorite class. He clearly knows what he's talking about and gives real world examples. He makes psych applicable to anyone. It's not neccesarily an "easy A," but if you go to class, take notes, and pay attention you'll do fine. He's funny and interesting. I would definitely take it again!

Sometimes I skimmed the chapters before class. I really used it before tests and while writing papers. I would totally suggest taking one of his classes.

This class is definitely harder than I thought. If you don't go to lecture, you have no chance in passing. The tests are on little stories that he mentions in the lectures. Lots of work.

Vecera is a super engaging professor and his lectures go by quickly. He understands the material, and his exams are mainly lecture based. Not necessarily an easy A, but worth taking if you're interested in psychology and want a good understanding of it. Go to lecture take notes and you'll get a good grade.

This class can be difficult. A lot of the exams are mostly about situations which makes studying slightly more difficult. At least for me, but it is a really great class and he makes lectures easy to follow. Write what he says not whats on the powerpoints.

He's an amazing teacher, and so helpful during office hours. Lectures are interesting and great, and exams are easy, coming straight from lecture, you just can't miss class, but thats fine because going to that class is great.

For the first exam I created flashcards and studied them. I got a C on the exam. Started to go to office hours & talking with him& asked him how to study. He said take good notes, not the slides but what he said (I didn't even look up from notebook), then lecture them to yourself once in a while. I got an A on next exams.

Reading the textbook and attending are lecture necessary to pass. The same for discussion section. There are weekly quizzes to keep track of attendance. The three tests are written right from the textbook, jargon included. Be prepared to do lab experience. Need 10 credits for the term. Worth taking with him because he's interesting and funny.

He's tough, but fair. Listen to what he says and read the book and you'll live.

Good teacher

Tests are based off the lectures so it is best to attend those. After about the first week in discussion you can generally expect a quiz. Plenty of opportunities to speak with him or an of the other TAs after class to get help.

Overall good class and professor. Be aware that there are very few grades in Elem. Psych. though. You have 2 midterms, small quizzes in discussion sections (aka mandatory attendance), and 2 papers. Not required to read book, but very helpful. When studying, make sure you know examples of each topic. SHOW UP TO LECTURE!!! That's what's on the test.

Does a great job at lecture with providing you with the information that is going to be on Exam . If you go to lectures and pay attention you should do well.

Going to lecture is the only way you will pass, plus the exams are over information he says in class, the outline doesn't go into as much detail as he does in class

If you sit in class and take notes you will do fine. Don't worry about what is on his slides, the words that come out of his mouth are what matter. Tests are very specific so if you missed something he said during lecture you'll miss that question on the test.

Professor Vecera is one of the best professors that I have had. He always finds a way to make lectures entertaining and gives helpful feedback on any topic you may have a questions about. His tests are highly lectured based so it is very important to go lectures. Overall, the class is not that bad and he is a really nice person.

Shaun is a very laid back professor that truly wants you to learn the material. He is always super engaging in the lectures, and class is always fun!

The lectures are where you obtain all the info for the test. No book material is used, in fact don't even get a book. The professor is very funny, is willing to give feedback, and is well respected. His lectures are very interesting.

The power points have very minimal information on them, so it's important to listen and write down what he says. Majority of what is on the test is said in lecture. Discussion has "pop" quizzes every Thursday but they are easy if you are paying attention in class.

TAKE THIS CLASS! Shaun reminds me of a cute dad. He makes lectures fun! Being a freshman girl in a 400+ people in one lecture hall can seem daunting but made it enjoyable and not scary at all. The lectures are important to go to because he doesn't post the powerpoint slides outside of class. The discussion sections help too! I love this class!

Very good professor! My favorite during my first year at Iowa. Pay attention in class, you will do way better on exams! He gives several examples that are very helpful when interpreting information.

Shaun makes lectures fun and entertaining. Write out the notes and paraphrase everything he says. Just not quite sure how to study for his exams. I tried quizlet for the last exam and it did not turn out very well.

Sometimes I feel like the lectures are confusing and not sure what I am supposed to get out of it.

Good class, must study and MUST attend lecture and discussion. If you dont go to class, you will not pass. I suggest studying for exams about a week in advance because there is a lot of information. Learning terms is not enough, must know how to apply them for the exams.

I have two big lecture classes, and the difference between them is astonishing. One of them I go and I dread it because I don't learn anything at all, but I know if I miss any psych lecture I will miss so much content and I wouldn't risk it! Thank you for making your class one to be there for!

Definitely go to lecture and take good notes. He doesn't really use material from the textbook, it's mainly info from lecture and discussion notes.

Really good lectures, definitely provides you with all the necessary info to be successful on exams. Very easily understood and keeps class interesting.

Good at explaining and passionate about what he teaches

His lectures are fun and not boring at all. Always go to lecture because you have pop quizzes but they are easy.

He makes lectures very interesting! I enjoy going, just make sure to write the examples that he explains in class. Exams are multiple choice but he writes them in a way that you can't just visually recognize the answer, you really have to understand the concepts. I give the difficulty level a 4 is because it's an easy B, harder to get an A.

It is an introductory class so everything is surface level. I can tell prof. Vecera cares about his work, and he tries to show it in his lectures. Personally, I found lectures boring. Good class to make a friend and split up lectures with, just combine and share notes. Tests aren't focussed on readings so much, but the things he says in lecture.

Professor Vecera is a fast talker, but he is very interesting. You can tell he really cares about his work. GO TO LECTURE! You take so many notes in class, but that's exactly what's on the test, no surprises.

Vecera was a great professor and was very dedicated to giving strong, informational lectures. This guy definitely knows what he's talking about and cares for his students. He was so great, loved him and would love to take another class taught by him. Pop quizzes given in lecture but they're super easy and you pretty much know when they're coming.

Super animated lectures that are easy to follow! Outlines to every lecture keep your notes really organized. Tests are tough, be sure to plan out study time, but if you do study, an a is very attainable.

Professor Vecera is a very fun but professional teacher. I had taken this class last semester with another professor, but within the last 2 months, I have learned so much more than I did in the whole semester. He not only teaches us but makes lectures fun. Professor Vecera also has fun demonstrations where he would ask for a volunteer, so be ready.

Go. To. Lecture. Professor Vecera keeps lectures interesting, and he really cares about what he teaches. But that's for a reason--exams make you think and literally sometimes say "In lecture, we discussed...". So don't skip class. Also, don't buy the textbook--you can find it online for free or share with a friend because it's not too important.

His lectures are very well done. I've never been bored while hearing him talk.

I love Professor Vecera! His class is just the right mix between really challenging and just right. You have to work for an A in his class for sure, but you have so many resources available to use. I attend supplemental instruction and I find that to be so helpful. You literally won't pass if you skip lecture, since his tests are based on lecture.

Professor Vecera is so awesome. You do have to go to his lectures to know the material, but you have to do that for every other college class so it's not an issue. If you study, you'll get an A.

Professor Vecera has great energy during lectures and keeps you engaged the whole time. He does a great job explaining and relating concepts. This has been my favorite class this semester and much of that is due to Professor Vecera making lectures so interesting.

I loved Professor Vecera's class. The tests are difficult but everything is clear, concise and covered in lecture and discussion sections. The textbook isn't really needed and helpful outlines for the lectures can be found online. The only complaint is that discussion slides are not posted online.

Professor Vecera's lectures are informative and entertaining, which is good because attending lecture is necessary to do well on tests. The majority of the test questions are based off of content from lecture. Reading the textbook isn't necessary for a decent grade. I also appreciate his sense of humor and kindness. I would take this class again!

Class is tough if you're not good with memorizing parts and how things work together. Should be okay if you study everyday. Professor knows what he is talking about and is very helpful if you need it.

If you are required to take PSY:1001, take it with Shaun! He is an amazing lecturer! He really made me fall in love with psychology and now I've declared a psych minor. If you just listen and write down what he says (take good notes), you'll get A's on the midterms. I read as well and the papers aren't terrible. Truly wonderful!

Psychology lectures are always interesting, but Professor Vecera makes them funny and engages with the class a lot, despite the fact that he is lecturing to 200+ kids in one hall.

He has a great teaching style that helps you to both learn the material and better understand your own life.

Prof. Vecera really cares about this class and it shows in lecture. Exams are fairly straightforward, just make sure you know the brain anatomy terms/associations by heart. Also, lecture slides aren't posted, but they wouldn't help anyways... you HAVE to go to lecture and LISTEN, AND go to discussion to pass.

The lecture portion is good. Take good notes and study well to do well on the exams. My TA was pretty good too. The exams are as-expected difficulty. If you study for them then you will be fine. It was a really good class. I recommend doing the textbook readings before lecture.

Prof. Vecera is by far my favorite professor and I always look forward to his class because his lectures are always super interesting. Use the outlines that he posts when taking your notes and make sure you show up to the lectures and discussions and then you'll be good for his class.

Vecera is overall a great professor - really clear lectures and concepts. I didn't enjoy my TA discussion much - the TA read from a piece of paper and couldn't answer our questions. And, the tests are really oddly specific which I don't think is reflected by the lectures and discussions (all of which are quite chill and easy).

This class is points based meaning most of the points are given through tests. If you study well for the test, they aren't too bad. Lectures are interesting and he's very good at explaning information. Disscusion sections give tons of information, so you have to write tons of notes. Also research credits are needed to pass, they aren't hard to do.

Explains in depth to make sure you really understand material, provides multiple examples too.

Shaun is a bro and gives great lectures. Pay attention during class, read the textbook, and make a large quizlet and you will do well in this class. Exams are worth most of your grade and questions can be worded kind of weirdly so study hard for those. 2 small papers, 2 midterms, and a final. Super nice guy with some good jokes. Highly recommend.

The lectures were easy to follow along and quite interesting. The tests are very lecture heavy so I don't recommend skipping lectures or discussions.

If you are a psych major and gotta take his class, you are blessed. His exams are a little hard, but he will provide good self-practice quizzes before the test. His lecture is fun and interesting.

Professor Vecera is truly amazing! He is one of the few professors that you can tell really cares about his work and his students. His lectures and lecture style are amazing and extremely effective

Vecera is a very solid professor that has great and informative lectures. However, what was particularly notable was how he handled student complaints of a subpar TA. He actively listened to students' feedback and made necessary changes. From a class with 1000+ people in it, it really showed that he cares about the success of his students.

This is my second class with Shaun and he's one of my favorite overall professors. He designed this class to help students improve their study habits, and you can tell he actually wants to help students succeed. This class did take some effort, but overall I'd call it an easy 1-credit course that may actually help you be a better student.

Learning about Learning online this semester was really easy. There are weekly lectures, readings that require short summaries, and a metacognitive journal entry. The journal entries are the "hardest" but are helpful with understanding your study habits and what you can improve in terms of learning habits. His lectures are easy to understand too.

Learning about Learning is super straightforward. I'd recommend a first-year student to take it if you're looking for a quick semester hour with informative content. Check ICON frequently. Don't miss deadlines. Mostly busywork. I had a 100% in the course and turned in one late assignment, ending with a 94%. Every assignment is based on completion.

This class was not hard at all I didn't watch the lectures I just read the material and everything was super simple.

Overall a pretty cool class. You get what you put in and I thought it was great for a first-year class. If you just want an A it's easy. I would recommend this class. Just make sure to not miss any deadlines.

A solid 1-credit course - put in the work and you'll get an easy A. The lectures are helpful, and using unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook made studying a breeze. Recommended for first-year students.
