Awesome teacher. Very approachable. Superb lecturer.
Great Prof, and a great guy!
grate

Prof. Areibi could quite possibly be the best professor a student could ask for. He is very clear, and very concerned that his students understand the material. He makes his own notes and believe me, there are a lot of them.
Shawk-Tee-Ma-RAY-bee
Good teacher... best so far in engg at least.
Great course, don't miss a class otherwise you've basically missed about 10-20 notes. NOT happy with ANY of his testing - its hit or miss and never seems to actually test your skills.
A great prof - although he whizes through the lecture notes incredibly fast at times. You get eye strain trying to follow his overheads (b/c they move so fast). Very helpful, although his tests may or may not actually test you on what you've learned.
One of the best proffessors I had but loves to "challange" class with brutal examinations.
Shawki is easily the best engineering prof at Guelph. Thoroughly enjoyable lectures that are actually useful. He doesn't seem to understand that people take classes other than his though. You have to work like a slave to get a great mark.
The only two course that I enjoyed in my four years at U of G!
The best prof I've ever had the pleasure of being taught by. Knowledgeable, caring, and always ready to help. I wish all my profs were this good!
Excellent prof. Knowledgeable, caring, and always ready to help. I wish all my profs were this good!
HE is good

He's not bad, but nowhere near what I expected. He's rusty after his sabbatical and seems bored. He's changed his teaching approach, by that I mean he guilts you into learning and coming to class. Because of this he has lost respect, attendance illustrates this.
A lots of talk all for nothing. Always blames students if something is not clear. Crappy TAs, NO EXAMPLES in class, quizes/midterms = nothing you have done in class. Full semester of SLEEPING IN LABS! THAX FOR ALL THE INCONVINIENCE!
Excellent Prof! and great course
I really enjoyed this course and learned a lot from it. The lecture notes were great!
One of the best courses attended in Guelph. Well done Professor Areibi!
Dr. Areibi is an excellent professor and all the courses I attended was worth it!
Tough Course! but it is worth it
Excellent Job! One of the best courses I have taken at UofG.
good.
Extremely good prof. Almost becomes friends with the students, really nice and very friendly. Material in the course was very interesting, and he made his exams on the easier side, but still hard enough that you need to know the material. Does not try and screw you over, which is a nice change. Excellent
Awesome Prof
Very helpful prof and easy to confront. Probably one of the best profs to explain a concept ever at Guelph! Although, he gossips about students marks with other es&c profs!! Only values students with high marks and does pick on students occasionally.
According to me he is one of the best prof.
The number one prof in engineering by far. Makes classes very enjoyable and does his absolute best to make sure concepts are as clear as they can be. Awesome job Dr. Areibi!
Don't believe him when he says the the final will be easy.
good guy
hard marker
Fair professor and pretty good at teaching. He has a million slides but if you go to class you'll know what he emphasizes. Be prepared to put work in or else you won't do well. He gives you everything you need to do well, but it's up to you to get there. "No free lunch", as he says.
"No free lunch!" Awesome prof with ability to explain complex topic. Slides are slightly less then Prof Omer who happens to be his student. Gotta work for what you want. Overall, 5+
He is a great professor in terms of competence. His years of experience are evident in his teaching. However, he is tough when it comes to marking. Either he overestimates the abilities of the students, or he doesn't realize how smart he is himself, meaning the midterm which he calls "easy" is actually tough for most people.
good lecturer but horrible during tests, does not care about students grades and extremely difficult marker, useless tutorials and difficult labs
Excellent course and great lectures.
Very good lecture notes and amazing lectures
I enjoyed taking ENG6530 in Winter 2017 with Dr. Areibi and the course was heavy but I learnt many new concepts ..
Dr. Areibi explains difficult concepts in an easy to understand way. Very good instructor. But this course should 0.75 credit and not 0.5 credit. Lots of work
Dr. Areibi is a very intelligent exciting prof, he clearly loves what he does, and genuinely wants to see students succeed.
Excessively hard if you goof up your midterms and be ready to get destroyed in labs and finals
I love this course. Shawki is one of the best profs I've ever had
Dr. Areibi is a great professor and the course was awesome. Lectures were extremely clear and exciting. #1 prof in engineering in my opinion
Well organized and interesting topics on FPGAs. Enjoyed lecture material prepared by instructor.
He is like the jordan peterson of computer engineering. His passion can be felt.
Dr. Areibi is an excellent professor and his lectures are energetic and interesting. He is one of the best lecturers at Guelph.
While the professor is very knowledgeable on the topics covered, he is no help at all outside of the lecture. There is no point in emailing him as he will just tell you to email TA's that he clearly doesn't communicate to. To perform well in this course you either have to spend all your time on it or already know what you're doing.
Okay this man's teaches well, buttttt he is one of the most condescending people i have ever met. His tests will grape you but the r is silent. He does not really care about the students, and is absloutly no help whatso ever outside of the lecture. TA are also useless.
not nice person during online education!
Seems nice in person, but when communicated online in the middle of a pandemic, he is rude, sassy, and straight up doesn't answer questions asked of him. He really knows his stuff, but he constantly gets upset at people for not following rules that he changes with every single new email. Final was too long and difficult compared to course content.
Dr. Areibi is a great professor, He is very passionate about his field which makes his lectures great
Very good course .. I enjoyed it and learned a lot despite this course just being an elective .. great teacher and TAs
Best Prof. Labs were very helpful with understanding material
This prof was by far the best. He made every class engaging and interesting. No midterm exam but the final exam was very fair
Loved the course! Great Prof! Only critique is that assignments should be worth more for the amount of time they take
In terms of ability to convey course content in a helpful and informative way, Shawki Areibi is the best professor I've ever had
Dr. Areibi was a very good professor and presented everything in a good manner. He makes the material easier to understand and he is willing to help us do well. Great job!
Great Lectures! Instructor went through the material in detail with examples .. was very engaging with the class. Could go faster through early material so we can spend more time on the later material. Amazing class
The course was taught exceptionally well .. Dr. Areibi is the best professor I've ever had.
Prof. Areibi really enjoys teaching, cares enough to make sure the students understand the material. He was always willing to help out when he could.
Excellent course and awesome professor who cares about the students and inspires them to do well in the course .. I hope to see him in other courses
Great job Dr. Arebi, enjoyed the lecture, labs and learnt a lot of concepts
Wonderful Course! Thanks a lot!
Great Professor, Shawki was a blast to have as an instructor for the course. Excellent Communicator.
This was a very useful course. I learned new concepts and approaches to be applied when building a machine learning framework. Lots of work but worth the effort. Lectures covered many important and practical concepts
I fall in love with machine learning after this course. the way professor teaching this course is awesome. I will surely take another course under this professor
I learned a lot of new concepts in digital design and how to use FPGAs to realize circuits. Great course and excellent lectures. Exams were fair but not easy
Very interesting topics covered in this course. Dr. Areibi was able to convey course content in a helpful and informative way ..
The professor really enjoys teaching, cares enough to make sure the students understand the material
I am really enjoying this course .. I am learning new engineering concepts and the professor is approachable and always engages with students by asking questions .. great course ..
Course was pretty interesting and I learned a lot. He is very knowledgeable. I attended all tutorials, lectures, and labs and the course was still pretty difficult for me. I like this guy however he can be a little rude at times. He's pretty funny though. Midterm was easy, exam was hard. Good but confusing course, and okay prof.
Really enjoyed this course. The professor was very engaging and made sure questions were answered
The class was well taught, The labs were intellectually stimulating, but the preparation for these labs were very difficult. The professor was skilled at keeping the class engaged, even though the lectures were 1.5 hours.
I really enjoyed this course. I learned lots of new concepts in Digital Design. The content was really fun to learn about and reinforced my desire to be a computer engineering student. Great Professor! The professor made a strong attempt to make sure anyone who showed up to lectures understood the content. I highly recommend this course
Very smart and talented professor. I was very happy to have been taught by him. I really loved this class and its topics.
Professor Areibi was an amazing and charismatic teacher, who created an interesting lesson through heavy interaction with the class and high enthusiasm. He is one of the best profs at this university!
He called me out in numerous lectures for no apparent reason. I just have my laptop open and he tells me to pay attention and stopp distracting. I wasn't speaking or doing anything. He's weird like that. Lectures and good and labs take a lot of time. I don't like him but he's overall an okay prof. Don't laugh in class or he will hold it against you
Absolutely amazing at teaching the course, was a pleasure to attend every single lecture possible. The grading is tough, but as long as you pay attention to what is being asked it should be ok. 100% would take again, I would have him teach every course if it was posisble! :))))
In my opinion the course was hard and labs were administered poorly but he taught very well during lectures
Lectures always made me think and allowed me to understand the content during the lecture time. The professor made a strong attempt to make sure anyone who showed up to lectures understood the content. Content was delivered in lots of detail with plenty of examples for each concept to help understand what is happening.
The lectures were really engaging the professor would sometimes call students out to answer questions which made sure we were focusing and on our toes. This prof was really good at explaining. He is awesome and so hyped about the material and it made me hyped too.
Dr. Areibi taught the material in the course very well. Even without a background in computer science and computer engineering I was able to keep up and get a good understanding of the hard concepts.
Loved this guy! amazing prof! Best prof is geulph Hands down! def would take his class again!
Fantastic instructor, one of the best I've had so far in university. The best course ever, requires a lot of work though
I found that the course content was very interesting. Prof Areibi taught Digitals Systems Design amazingly. Ensuring that every student understood the material. He is very passionate and the perfect prof for this course.
Definitely my favorite class this semester, I loved the straight forward approach towards the material and thought that the labs and seminars tied well into the lecture to complete the learning experience. One of the best professor I've had so far!
Best explainer of concepts in all of UofG
Honestly prob the best engg prof you will get. No boring lectures really imp to go too!
Prof. Areibi is by far the best lecturer at Guelph, his lectures are enlightening and actually WORTH going to(not typical). I sat at a 99 before the final, the midterm was wonderful, while the final felt challenging, but fair. He is an excellent prof if you put the work in and show up, guaranteed to enjoy this course and pass with flying colors.
-11/10 prof, best one ive had - stay on top of assignments, a lot of his tests mirror them -do labs before your lab time, ta's arent super helpful -tutorials are super useful and an amazing GTA -midterm is significantly easier than final, look at past ones on studocu theyre pre similar -final was difficult with time constraint, no one left early
The lectures were consistently worthwhile to attend,as he explains the concepts very clearly and effectively. His exams are generally fair, and although a bit more time on the final would have been helpful,I can't complain he is an excellent professor overall. He can be somewhat strict, but this is hardly an issue given the quality of his work.
