Wonderful sweet teacher. Really into chemistry and it shows. Extremely helpful and very willing to listen to students. Definitely one of those teachers that you try to find more classes you can take that they teach.
I've taken her for Gen.chemI and O.ChemI and she is such a caring teacher. she wants the best from her students & is always willing to go the extra mile if you are. She is also a great person.
GREAT! Helpful and willing to tutor after class.
Awesome professor. Very enthusiastic about Chemistry. She actually made me like Chemistry, which says alot. She opened my mind to a very interesting subject. 5 tests, and can drop 1, gives tests reviews & willing to help you until you understand. Highly recommend.
She's great! I had her for lab in Intro. Chem. and it was a no brainer to take her for Chem 1. She gives you lots of practice tests and is always willing to help you when you need it. She really loves Chemistry and it shows. I highly recommend her. You won't regret it.
She explains things well as far as in class, if you are not sure that you understand something as far as calculations or anything else. I did find it helpful that she gives you access to her tests from previous years, I found them helpful. I do reccommend that you do study for the tests. She is very helpful as far as doing labs.
She is the greatest. Very sweet and helpful! Wish I could have her as a regular professor.
By far the best professor EVER. Goes above and beyond what is to be expected from a professor; very willing to help you after class until you understand the info. Allows you to access to previous tests which lets you know what to expect for the tests. I love her style of teaching so much I am going to take every Chem class with her and only her! A+
best prof ever, hands down!
Shawn is very enthusiastic, hoever her inexperience shows a bit. Often times tests were much more difficult than what she helped prepare for. She more than makes up for it in one on one help (if you can get ahold of her).
Mrs. Amorde is the best teacher ever. She is very helpful and explains things very clearly. She makes sure everyone understands the material until she moves onto the next subject. She gives chances for extra credit and is flexible about test dates and tutoring times.
Very awesome and enthusiastic professor! She's very kind, helpful and great about clarifying every detail of the material. I plan to take my remaining Chemistry classes with her.
Very sweet and kind woman, she is also very concerning about your grade. Its a tough class, but do any/all extra credit or bonuses that you can and you'll be fine.
BY FAR the best teacher I've ever had!! You will not find a better teacher for Organic chemistry. She gives bonus questions to help your grade and gives previous exams as study materials, which are almost exactly like the test. TIP: take good notes, write down everything!
LOVE HER! She is the best prof I've had ever! I was really worried about Organic, but she makes it extremely easy! She really is passionate about it, so that makes it all the better! Moves at the pace of the class, gives previous exams to study, really helpful in lab! I HIGHLY recommend her for any class!
Shawn is such a good professor. I had her for Gen Chem Lab. I would reccommend her for Lecture because she is so awesome! She explains things thoroughly, she wants to help you and she is so nice! Take her as much as you can, you won't regret it. Her lecture tests are multiple choice and she gives a ton of partial credit!
great prof. she makes class VERY interesting (she's quite the character), and will spend as much time as you need explaining all concepts. there is NO stupid question in her mind. she is also very helpful outside of class. i would recommend her to EVERYONE that needs to take GenChem I. i will be trying to get into her class for GenChemII as well.
Best prof have ever had. ALL tests in Lab. get 3 page front back cheat sheet each test. Can fit ALOT on there. She will always help you. Go to class and take notes do practice tests and make sure those are on cheat sheets. I made 99 in class didnt do anything at home ever. dont buy the book. total waste of money. Take her if you can! Worth it!
This professor is by far the best instructor I have had at ACC. She explains everything well and gives previous exams to study for all tests. She lets you use notes on all tests. When her class opens it fills up fast. I will definitely take her for the rest of the Chemistry I need. She is awesome and so cool. She tells jokes and has fun teaching.
Ridiculous awesome prof. Clear, funny, lots of help. great way to take a chem class
Never liked chemistry until I took her class. She explains difficult concepts easily. Gives partial credit on test answers. You get 3 cheat sheets of notes for every test. Go to class because she often uses test questions as her examples.
Best teacher ever. She is a great teacher with great attitude. She really wants you to learn and is there to help you in any way possible. Her love of chemistry is very obvious! If you have the chance, take her class.
The class was awesome. Attendance is not required but she explains everything in detail in class. The test are easy if you study and write down all your notes on your cheat sheet. I would recommend her for sure she made chemistry fun! I learned alot
Very good and funny!
Dr. Amorde is a rare breed of teachers who actually teach and enjoy doing so. Class is not mandatory, but go to it. The notes from class are essential. Tests are short answer but fair (she covers the material adequately). I would definitely recommend her!
Hate chemistry but she made me love it, very nice teacher, she explains everything clearly. also when you need help with something she always has time to sit and talk to you about it.
Mrs. Amorde is AWESOME. Take her if you can. You will be so so glad you did.
Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful. Okay, I still don't think Chemistry is fun and exciting but she made it easy and enjoyable. I had no problem making an A because her lectures are sooo clear. She is absolutely the best. But make sure to take her for your lab too, or you may be struggeling in LAB.
AMAZING!!! I swear up and down by this professor. I had her for chem 1, chem 2 and I'll have her for organic this summer. Most helpful, energized teacher I have had. She really loves chem
Highly recommend Dr. Amorde. This was my first science class in 10 years. I feared science, but Dr. Amorde has changed my mind. It isn't that bad. Her lectures are clear and interactive. Exams are based on lecture and practice exams. There is no HW. Just go to class, take notes, and use her office hours if you need help. She is a very nice person.
Dr. Amorde is the best teacher I have had for any class at ACC. You will not regret taking her for any class you can.
Dr. Amorde has been my chemistry professor for 4 semesters, all gen. chem and organic chem. I am very glad to have taken her and after it is all said and done I wouldn't take any one else. She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She has a genuine passion for chemistry. Take her if you can. The other posts are accurate she is GREAT!
I was only able to have her for lab despite my best efforts. She's a great teacher and very approachable if you have a question. She even helped tie up loose ends on lessons left from our Chem 1311 teacher during our class. I just wish her classes didn't fill up so fast so I could have her as a Gen Chem teacher instead of a lab instructor.
Shawn was a great teacher! She explained to concepts in a very practical way, especially for someone who is not into chemistry. Don't use the book much at all but I would DEFINITELY recommend her for any level chemistry class.
Outstanding instructor--made Chem easy and fun! Highly recommend her for all your Chem classes if able.
I got an A in this class, but I wouldn't take her again. She doesn't post homework or answer keys when promised, she cut down her office hours midsemester, she rarely responds to e-mail, she starts class late on a regular basis and she makes multiple mistakes when writing her tests. She's a nice person but she made the class very frustrating.
Prof. Amorde is probably the best professor I've yet to experience in college! Prior to her class, I had very little interest in Chemistry. She made me not only understand the concepts, but truly enjoy coming to class! You can tell she really enjoys teaching and cares about her students. I HIGHLY recommend taking her class!
I didn't feel that Dr. Amorde was very organized during this course. This could be because she only teaches it in the summer. She's also very liberal with her grading and extra credit. It kind of felt like you were paying for an A in the course rather than paying to learn the material.
Amorde is the best chem teacher she grades easy and is very helpful she is the teacher to take!!
Dr. Amorde is phenomenal. As people have said, she is lenient on her grading, but but she's still a great prof. I learned so much from her course and she truly wants you to succeed. I didn't even read the textbook and made an A because she's so thorough. Can't wait to take her for Chem 2 and wish I could take Orgo with her. She's awesome!
Best chemistry teacher at ACC hands down. If your debating on taking another professor for chemistry STOP searching because you just found the right one!! Her lectures are clear and straight to the point. She has no problem going over material again with you if something is unclear. Grading is very fair. Extra credit is offered. Same deal for lab.
She is an easy A. If you're not moving on to other chem or bio courses, go ahead and take her. If your major is science related, skip it. I took organic chem at UT after having her and got an A. That was only because organic has LITTLE to do with chem 2. I'm now in biochem at UT and it's pretty rough because it relies on a good amount of chem 2.
Very disappointed. She is the worst teacher I ever had. She did not teach in class and you need to go to see her in office. I never recommend her.
I don't know what this other reviewer is talking about. I took this course in the spring 2014 semester. While it was very challenging, Dr. Amorde made organic chemistry fun to learn. She really has a passion for chemistry and went out of her way to help us succeed - like coming to class an hour early to help us with difficult concepts.
I enjoyed each class I have taken from Dr. Amorde. She is very helpful and engaging in each class period and afterwards in her office hours. She is fair and allows the students to have a say in the class structure but only in ways that further their learning. She is very knowledgeable about chemistry and will relate it to real world situations.
Very interested in what she does and makes it fun if you participate. Class isn't all that mandatory if you have taken chem before but you get points for being there so why not. Having to take CHEM 1312 and wish I could be taking it with her again, great teacher all around
Dr Amorde is a wonderful teacher, she knows her stuff and does an excellent job explaining the material. She will spend extra time going over things when she feels the class is not getting it. I would recommend her for all chemistry classes. She did some reviews in our class for some Gen Chem topics that were very helpful
Dr. Amorde is a true gem! She is very clear in her delivery of the course & her expectations of you. Barely used lecture txt. DID USE the lab txt book a lot! No homework. 5 exams + a Final, but you may use a 1-2 pg cheat sheet on each. Can't go wrong with this prof!
Professor Amorde is seriously the best teacher I have had since at ACC. She is very helpful, really funny, and extremely passionate about Chemistry. She is really smart and gets so happy when students understand the concept, and all she wants to do is help her students. Always positive. I HIGHLY recommend her! Best teacher i've ever had.
Great teacher, loves chem and is very fair grader. I had her during a time she had surgery and we missed a few lectures but she made up for the time lost and made sure we learned and most importantly our grades did not suffer because of this. Oh and shes quite easy on eyes ;)
Not recommended if chemistry is a platform for your degree. Too lenient on exams: gives partial credit on incorrect answers, allows notes on tests and gives extra credit. The end of the semester very disorganized and overwhelmed with grading. Always late to office hrs and NEVER emails back, makes excuses! You are still going to work hard for an A!
If you already know some chemistry then it is fairly easy to get an A in Dr. Amorde's class. However, if you are looking to create a good foundation in chemistry with an organized and punctual professor that will help after class or during office hours, then look elsewhere.
If you had intro chem recently, easy 'A.' If not, you'll struggle, look elsewhere.
By far the best chemistry teacher i have ever had!!! i would love to take her for ochem 2 but i cant wait a semester. anyway she is amazing and really helps you learn the material!!
Professor Amorde was great! She keeps class light-hearted and interesting and does several examples to clearly illustrate concepts. You are allowed to use cheat sheets on tests but they are still difficult if you didn't study for them. She does reviews in class before the tests and writes out relationships that you learn. Take her!
She references multiple text books.
doesn't give feedback on homework assignments to know how you are doing, she may or may not release an answer key after it was turned in that you can compare your answers to, so keep a copy to study with. You won't get your HW back before the test. Tests are graded slow too. For my learning style, its hard to know how I am really doing and improve
Mrs. Amorde is not the best but she is a great chem professor. You can tell she loves chemistry. She is fun BUT very disorganized. You won't know how you are doing in her class. I emailed her 3 times and got no response EVER. Her test are up to you to decide, basically all over the place. Homework is the same. Never know if you are doing it right.
As a student who made an A+ in this class, I can say that she is very helpful when you ask for it. Take good notes, read the chapters, complete the homework & practice tests and get help from Learning Lab. She is energetic, provides practice problems, and tests questions are like hw & pt, so if you do them, the test is quite straight forward.
She's great. She really made chemistry interesting and fun. Barely ever uses the text book, I didn't have to open it once (I can understand if you keep it as extra help though). I'm definitely taking her Chem II class.
Shawn is by far the best professor at ACC. You will be challenged, and your study habits will be tested. But she cares about your learning on the deepest of levels, and there's no better professor to prepare you for the rigors of gen-Chem and o-Chem. Don't be afraid to push yourself and avoid taking the easy way out with the "other" professors.
Understand that I just needed credit for chemistry... It has nothing to do with my major but it is required. Could have been a less stressful class.
WOOHOO! Best dang chemistry professor ever. She loves what she does and I look forward to class. Don't take her if you are a slacker. She takes chemistry very seriously and if you are just doing it to get it over with go waste someone else's time. Such a wonderful lady. Always tells funny stories and interesting chemical things. Cheat sheet on test
Ms. Amorde for the lab section is a MUST!!!!! she is really cool, her labs are fun too. Most of the work is done within an hour and you still have 2 more hours before class starts. Chose her for your lab!!!
Ms. Amorde is an okay teacher. I haven't taken chemistry since 9th grade, so everything was a bit difficult for me. She is very nice, but her teaching was lacking in that we took nearly 3 months for the first test. The last 3 test had to be rushed n that's what got everyone to get mad at her. I'm not saying she's a bad teacher, but take some1 else.
Learn the material by heart and get a high grade while doing it
Best professor! I love her class! O chem isn't easy, and she doesn't help. Her goal is to confuse the heck out of you, but she will do everything to help you not be fooled. On day one, she told the class, "Rule number one of organic chemistry: draw it funny. Rule number two: put a bunch of crap on it." If you actually understand the concept, A+.
Best chem professor I've ever had! If you really want/need to learn chemistry, take her. Tests are easy as long as you go to class and do hw. You can use a cheat sheet for every test. She made me love chem! I'm taking her for chem 2 and organic
She will test you over stuff that she does not teach. She says all her tests are easy but that's also coming from the point of view of a Chemist who has been doing this for years. She's a nice person but getting graded over stuff that you only saw once on an optional review is really inconsiderate and nerve wracking for tests.
I just took Armode, I am thankful that ACC has someone like her that really teaches Chemistry. She is not a tough grader. If you really want to learn, take her. if you just want to pass the class take those Professors at ACC that give you 100 questions w/ answers and you just need to memorize them for the test. I'm taking her for Chem 2 n happy!
Dr. Shawn is truly excellent. I took her Ochem class a few years ago, and am finally in Ochem II at a big university. I am skating through because Dr. Shawn already taught me half this material! And after the long gap, I find that I remember all the goofy stuff she'd say, and I can remember all these reactions and synth steps. It's incredible.
Amorde is unbelievably smart and a great instructor. She is very good at explaining things and gives you a lot of opportunities to learn. But it is not an easy course. She grades all of her own exams that she writes herself and offers half credit. There is no cheating in her class. She actually makes you learn the material and I'm grateful
Dr. Amorde is awesome. Took her for Chem 1105 lab and as long as I showed up , did the experiment, and turned it in, she gave me credit. Show up to all labs and you'll get an A. Extremely nice and willing to work with you. Would take again.
I dreaded her class. But she honestly takes chemistry and made it fun. I looked forward to her class every week. Her tests are tough, anticipate 2-5 hours per test. She's flexible on book choice, don't buy the book in the syllabus. She cares, is fun, and I now wish I needed her other classes. Be prepared to take tons of notes. Again great!
OCHEM can be really challenging! Speaking as someone who really wanted to understand the subject, Dr. Amorde did a fantastic job explaining, showing, and answering any questions I had about OCHEM; and gave me direction concerning research positions for undergrads. She seemed really passionate! And I recommend her to the likeminded.
This class is lecture based. She writes the tests herself and you take them in the testing center, they are free response. I am never bored in class, she makes it fun! The content is difficult to grasp for me, but there is lots of help available. Slow grader doesn't put them into blackboard. She is very knowledgeable and it's nice to learn from her
I loved having Dr. A as a professor for organic chemistry 2. She clearly knows what she's talking about and has real world experience. Ochem 2 isn't easy regardless of professor, and Dr. A's class is no exception, so if you expect an easy A because you want to go to medical school, you'll be disappointed. Put the effort in and you'll do well.
By far the best professor I've EVER HAD! You can tell she genuinely cares if you "get it." ALL you need to do is GO TO CLASS EVERY DAY, take good notes and do ALL the homework! Her homework is much. "sassier" than the actual test so if you do the HW, you'll probably get an A! Teaches by story telling. I just love her. Inspires me for Physics
Dr. A has taught me more about ochem than I have learned in my ochem1 class. Shes willing to open her office doors outside of her hours and be accessible for help. I was terrified of taking this class and its definitely NOT easy but the practice homework problems are VERY good reviews for the exam since she uses similar problems on the exam.
I have been in Shawn's class for 2 years now. She is not an easy Prof and she will make you work for your grade, but you know your stuff once you get out of her class. She is preparing students to transfer to University, not to get an easy A. Make sure you are doing your Homework and practice tests and you will pass her class.
Lenient grader, and gives extra credit opportunities, but horrible at lecturing. She doesn't explain during class so you will rely on the tutor and your own study time. The day before our final she admitted she was such a visual person that explaining doesn't come easy for her. Do NOT rely on her.
She is friendly and seems to genuinely care about her students. She is lenient with grading & gives some points for trying. You do have to work hard for an A still, but take her if you really want to learn. However she can be pretty disorganized during lectures and getting grades back can take 1-2 weeks. The avg time for exams is 5-7 hrs typically.
She know her class is hard but this is an advanced science course! She gives EC just for showing up to seminars and is VERY lenient about due dates Most of the class turned everything in the last week. Labs are held to a high standard but thats bc shes preparing us for lab jobs. She grades as fast as she can considering she teaches multiple courses
I highly recommend Dr. Amorde for Chem I. Simply put: the energy you spend studying in this class is the grade you'll get. She is supportive of her students and wants them to succeed. Multiple opportunities for EC. You take notes by hand and there's lots of hw. But it's all worth it for test prep with "cheat sheet". Great prof who knows her stuff!
The best teacher I have ever taken at acc. I went to the SI study sessions in the learning lab every Monday and Wednesday to pass the class with an A. She makes you work for the grade, but if you need this class for your major its worth it.
I loved taking chemistry with Dr. Amorde. She is so good at explaining things and don't make you feel like an idiot when you don't understand or ask questions. She is very thorough in her lectures and uses color to organize the notes she gives you which was really beneficial to me. She made all the material fun to do and I high recommend her.
She is terrible at lecturing. Textbook of no help because one lecture covers 3-4 chapters and she can't tell you where to look. She can only explain one way. She makes the exams impossibly hard. Expect to spend 6+ hrs on an exam. Yes, she's a lenient grader and you'll get points for effort but you won't learn much of anything. Frustrating class.
She is a sweet lady and has a lot of industry experience. Makes you laugh. The diff bt her O chem and Gen chem is night and day. She doesn't spend enough time on material and her tests (4+hours) are nothing like the problems given in class. Questions are meant to trick you and she is very different from material found online. Dont take her4OChem
One of the best professors at acc. Everything flows together in class making you intuitively know how each unit functions with the rest. As long as you do your home work and pay attention in class everything else will come naturally by the end. Take Dr. Amorde's class if you want to major in something requiring chemistry as she teaches to organic2
Dr. Amorde is by far the best professor Ive ever had. She explained things extremely well and would work problems out with the class so we would have an idea of what the questions were going to be like on the test. If you do the homework and attend lectures, you will do well. Her class isnt easy, but as long as you apply yourself, its not so bad
Summer was challenging because it went a little fast, but I learned so much. Dr. Amorde has an awesome personality, good teaching style, and is entertaining as well as super nice. Lectures were interesting, and the HW + cheat sheet is great preparation for the (looong) tests. Lots of opportunity to succeed. Inspired to take more chem classes!
Do NOT take for organic. She is funny and interesting, but exams will take no less than 4 hours to complete. Unless you are a chem major - dont take. Very sweet, but 5 exams at 4-5 hours each is insane. Expect to write several extensive Lab reports at around 5 pages each too.
Prof Amorde was amazing. Her class was a total joy to be in and I don't even like Chemistry. She gives you everything you need to be successful. Your grade is truly in your own hands, which is fair and I love.
Dr. Amorde is my all time favorite professor! She explains things in a really understandable way, and she took the time to help me understand my chem lecture (different professor) in her own time. She makes lab so much fun, is a really lenient grader, and is honestly just so fun to be around. Not a single complaint.
Dr. Amorde is by far the best professor I've ever had. I went into this class not feeling very confident since I didn't do well in chemistry in high school. But Dr. Amorde gave me a new found confidence. Her lectures are awesome, but if you don't attend class you'll have a hard time passing since all of her tests come from her lectures.
This was a great lab experience for me. They were all fun and educational and Dr. Amorde is always willing to help and guide you through them. If you don't show up you won't pass but that's expected. Take her class and her lab, you won't regret it.
If you are the person who doesnt do great in science classes TAKE AMORDE! She is SO well at helping students when they need it, explains things in lecture very well and if you dont get it she will try to explain it differently so you understand it. HW questions in lecture so always write down her examples because theyre sometimes on test as well
She is one of the best teachers I have ever taken! Her labs are very straight forward, understandable, and very fun! She lets you drop your lowest lab grade, and although you can't make up labs, she lets you participate in labs from her other classes if needed. She doesn't answer emails but is very approachable and homework due dates are flexible.
Her Gen Chem class was AMAZING! All homework for the unit is due right before the test, she allows for extra credit, and explains things very thoroughly so everything is easy to understand. She does not read or answer emails. She allows the class to choose the size of the cheat sheet for each test. Very fair and very passionate about her subject.
Shawn is the most amazing professor I have ever had. I took her for General Chemistry 1 and now again for Organic. She expects you to be willing to do the hard work to get an A but is always willing to take the extra time to help you understand what youre learning.
Amazing teacher!!!!
Professor Amorde is a phenomenal teacher. She is super knowledgeable and she explains things in a very easy and digestible way. She also has a great sense of humor and keeps the class entertaining. Her teaching style requires that you know your stuff. No MC tests. All free answer (like math tests) but you get cheat sheet. Get ready to work.
Tough class, but every chem class is tough. As long as you put in the study hours you should make at least a B. She is hilarious and caring. Also gives extra credit. Take her class and you will learn the material plus have fun.
Awesome professor. She's a UT grad, and extremely knowledgeable. She knows her stuff. If you want to learn, sign up early as possible! BUY COFFEE! If you are even 10 minutes late, you are going to miss vital information. BUY THE GRAPHING CALCULATOR!!! check book stores for lower prices. If lecture seems hard, go to learning lab. You gotta earn it!
if you ask for help, she'll be more than happy to. had a hard time reaching out to her through email. she looks for specific answers in tests so she might take off points if you don't say specific words in open-ended questions. does a very thorough test review and you have a week to take it. has a lot of extra-credit
Dr. Amorde is a great prof. I have never ever had any Chem classes at all in my whole life but I got easily A. This does't mean she will give you an A on a blank sheet of paper. You got to do whatever you know from class, HW and practice tests. Extra credit is a good point to raise your grade. All tests are from HW, practice tests, and class lec.
Dr. Amorde is an awesome professor. She makes her lectures fun and is always full of energy. She allows the class to use model sets so you can visualize the material. This is helpful when trying to understand Newman projections and Stereocenters. She gives a lot of homework but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing them all (Extra credit if all is done).
She's the worst instructor I've ever met. She's extremely unorganized and her lecture is very clumsy, going from here to there abruptly. Her homework keys are messy, too. She still doesn't upload study material on blackboard for the 1/3 of the semester. She doesn't give any feedback to email and even gets "ANGRY" at receiving emails from students.
I had amorde this semseter for the lab portion of gen chem (lecture was with a different prof), and did distance learning. The pros: In person, she's very communicative and helpful. The cons: Her site was poorly composed, she was very unclear on many of the course instructions, and she's very hard to contact. I sent many, many unanswered emails.
I definitely felt like I learned quite a bit from her class. However, she talks fast, and her lecture notes are hard to follow. She does offer a few EC opportunities during lecture, and some on Google Classroom. She can give some tough HW problems, but she wants you to learn (and her grading is fair).
I'm not sure what grade I made, I did all of the labs for distance learning but two were just missing. I'm not sure if there was a final. She literally NEVER answered. I'm deaf and needed an accommodation letter signed and I emailed her a solid 5 times, the office of disability services had to EMAIL THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT
Professor Amorde is a really nice person but she is unorganized and her lectures are super messy, takes long to grade tests. She never replies to emails no matter how urgent the matter is. Doesnt give the best feedback on tests. Class was stuck taking 4 major exams in the last 10 days of the semester. Final was impossible to pass.
Wow. The lectures are HORRENDOUS. I am literally day 1 in viewing her lecture for Chem II and I am considering dropping. She is an absolute mess, her lectures are one the worst things I have ever seen. She attempts to act "millennial" at the expense of clarity. To think, these people are getting paid THOUSANDS, while places like KhanA are free.
Dr. Amorde is very helpful and gave ample time for assignments. If you think you're going to watch lectures or just show up to get the grade, you're mistaken. If you think you can use chegg and internet to get your grade, you're very mistaken. I recommend a book for references and the youtube videos for sure. She wants you to do well!
Professor Amorde is a very nice person but her teaching does not correspond to her assignments. For example, she'll teach 1/4 of a unit but the quiz we're expected to do by the next week covers the whole unit. Her exams do not correlate with her lectures or homework. Also, her homework keys are messy and unhelpful. Do not take her for O-chem.
God help this class.
I would put 0's but unfortunately, I cannot. T_T
It was worst experience I have had at ACC. I officially complained to the Dean and Department Head.
Lectures are just flat-out lacking. For the aspiring medical field people, avoid this class at all costs.
Avoid any Chemistry course with Dr. Amorde. I am concerned for ACC if Dr. Amorde's input is put in considered for hiring new faculty.
Terrible experience all around. Having worked at a top 5 pediatrics hospital in the United States, the level of professionalism in this class was disrespectful, inconsiderate, and flat-out rude. Experiences like these dissuade people from STEM and this course felt like a black eye to Science.
Lectures are a mess, she is a mess (admittedly), if you take her class, she tries to word questions in a *tricky* manner, which comes off as just plain confusing. It's such a shame... really.
This class was very disappointing. Lectures were not planned out. If we didn't get to something that was supposed to be covered- too bad. Materials and lecture recordings were not posted for weeks after the fact, and emails all went unanswered. It was negligent teaching and very unfair to students trying to build a good foundation in chemistry.
Dr. Amorde's lectures made chemistry come alive for me. Her course is lecture heavy and it's important to review your notes. But practice really makes perfect in this class! She's got a great sense of humor- which we all need in these pandemic times- and she's a super kind person. Don't expect an easy A! DO expect to learn chemistry well.
Dr. Amorde is an amazing professor, if you care about the class. I see a lot of bad ratings and I can tell you that those students either didn't put in effort or tried to cheat their way through. If you work, you'll have trouble doing poorly. She is hilarious, brilliant, and genuinely loves her job. Don't send stupid emails, contact her in-person.
Dr. Amorde is a great professor and is very responsive if you go see her in person but she will not respond to emails. I believe it's in the syllabus that the best way to contact her is during office hours. Best organic chemistry class I have taken. Wish I would have taken her my first go around
Dr. Amorde has a clear passion for chemistry and she has truly mastered the art of teaching. She's warm and accessible, welcomes questions, and is whip-smart. You'll work for your grade, but success is within reach. She writes her own material and communicates it beautifully. I moved away and all of my chem professors since cannot hold a candle.
Dr. Amorde is very nice and her class is fun to be in. Her lectures are a little disorganized, which makes ochem hard to learn from her. Its an ok class, not the worst class I have taken but not the best.
Prof. Amorde is one of those professors that goes the extra mile to make her class enjoyable and approachable. She allows cheat sheets on exams and generally does a really good job of tailoring her exams to the lectura material. She also offers copious extra credit opportunities.
This professor was highly unorganized and unresponsive to emails. As a person, she's funny don't get me wrong, but she gets distracted very easily and goes on tangents not pertaining to the information we were supposed to be learning, taking away from our actual class time. I didn't enjoy my time in this class and would not recommend it to others.
Love professor Amorde so much. She grades partial credit and she loves what she does, so it is a lot more enjoyable to be in lecture. I love this class.
Amorde is a great professor, her lectures are amazing, no powerpoints, shows you how to do the work. Easy to understand, very nice and caring. In the beginning she takes a while to put grades and homeworks up but by the second unit everything is up on BB in an timely manner. Probably one of the best science professors at the Round Rock campus.
Professor Amorde's passion for chemistry give her students an excitement that they wouldn't have received from a professor that doesn't care. I looked forward to her lectures because I found chemistry in her perspective so intriguing. She is kind, happy to answer qs, 6 exams, lets you drop the lowest score, gives extra credit. Work hard, worth it
Dr. Amorde was simply fantastic at almost every part of the class. Testing was pretty simple as long as you put in the effort with it. Cheat sheets were allowed and several homeworks structured like the test to check your standing with the material. Overall great teacher hope to have her again for organic chemistry.
Dr. Amorde is funny and really makes chemistry fun. The lectures are sometimes scattered, but with a basis over chemistry, you will do well. You get cheat sheets so go to the lecture and learn the info that you need to put on it. Really made a hard class enjoyable, and the lab as well.
Great lectures, answers questions. But she NEVER answered any of my emails. Homework sometimes contained things we didn't learn, and labs were almost always something we had to teach ourselves before going in. Like molarity, not once did she teach it in class but we needed it for the lab. Some exams were take-home, but alows cheat-sheets on others.
Professor is amazing! Work hard and it will pay off. Prof. Amorde is so funny and cares about the learning of her students. She cares about her subject and current day events. My favorite professor.
Dr. Amorde is insanely funny. I loved coming 2 her class for one of the very few times in my college career. I really enjoyed learning from her, but the ochem1 summer class was HEAVY. Lots of exams, lots of HW. No "true" deadline for anything BUT- it is a lotttt, too much in my opinion. Overall a fun class for a hard subject. But be prepared 2 work
Professor Amorde changed my life. I'm serious. Before taking her class, I wanted to get through community college as quickly as possible, just like my attitude was in highschool. After taking her class, I'm going for my bachelors. I'm begging you, if you care about sciences, taking professor Amorde will grow your passion tenfold. Highly recommend.
Her passion makes her lectures amazing and engaging. Six exams including the final, but one gets dropped. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Lots of fun in her class. The fun in the class is what makes the knowledge retainable. Otherwise, skipping a class would make catching up a little hard.
An amazing person and great personality. This class lacked structure 100% which was challenging for someone who has a full time job with other courses. Takes very long to get grades back and grading is very weird when it came to labs. You don't get your grade essentially until the last day of the semester. Frustrating to say the least
Dr. Amorde is an excellent chemistry professor who teaches from the deepest of her heart and very passionate to her job. she explains everything very simple and helps you a lot in the case of any problems with understanding the subject. I will definitely take her again.
One of the best professors I have ever met. I took her for lab/lecture for Organic 1 and 2. You can tell that she is knowledgeable and wants you to succeed. This is a difficult subject, but she gives you all of the tools for success. You are allowed a cheat sheet on the tests and homework should prepare you, even though there is a lot. Take her!!
She is a lovely person but highly unorganized. She tries to word questions in a "tricky" manner, which is just plain out confusing. Her exams do not correlate with her lectures or any homework. I used to love chemistry, but this course definitely dissuaded me from STEM.
Dr. Amorde was simply fantastic at almost every part of the class. Testing was pretty simple as long as you put in the effort with it. Cheat sheets were allowed and several homeworks are structured like the test to check your standing with the material.

I took Amorde for GC1, GC2, and now I'm about to take her again for OChem. She's the best professor I've had and she rekindled my love for the sciences. She is so smart and knowledgable, and always gives lectures with so much excitement and love for what she teaches. I'm so glad I got to have her for so many classes!
Awful class lectures. All the negative reviews first posted about her are accurate, and then she magically gets excellent reviews across, which I think someone who knows her is probably writing fake good reviews about her here. Hopefully, I can find IP addresses in those positive reviews. So beware.
Dr. Amorde is very sweet and had great lectures but her overall work ethic is concerning. Everything is due at the end of semester which is nice until she grades everything last minute so you have to look at your transcript for your grade. She does allow cheat sheets on exams.GO TO CLASS she doesnt post any notes so you have go to lecture to do well
Oh boy...she is a sweet lady but not reliable. Doesn't return graded homework; you won't know how well you grasp the material. Doesn't pace herself well, so 1st half of semester will cover 1 unit and the other half will cover 3 units. Not ONCE will she reply to your emails. Grades aren't uploaded until literally the last day of the semester.
Amorde is an amazing chem prof - lectures with so much passion and makes the material really engaging. Cheat sheets and homework aligned with tests were super helpful. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for study prep too.
Extremely slow to grade any assignments and disregards hard work. Had multiple tests from months ago still not entered into the grade book so you won't know your average until it's too late. And will spend the bare minimum to help students pass the class, leaves any outside study and issues to her student aid. Avoid if you can!
Does not care about this class, treats it like a quick side gig. Extremely late to grade anything, and doesn't seem to get the concept that people can take other classes other than her's.
Dr. Amorde is very passionate about Chemistry. The first few Units, lectures were great, but towards the end, less lectures time and was off tracked. For an "A" in the class, go to the learning lab, can go to ASI meetings, turn in everything, and most importantly, WATCH HER YOUTUBE VIDEOS. Thats what helped me understood the concept better!
Will definitely be trying to take her for the rest of my chemistry classes since that's my major. Is incredibly late on grading, saves it toward the end of the semester. Lectures are INCREDIBLE and entertaining. Such a bubbly, relatable, and witty professor - I love her. May be difficult if chemistry isn't your strong suit, but offers extra credit.
Be prepared for uncertainty.
Sadly, the bad reviews this professor got in 2020 and 2021 remain accurate. She's a sweet person but her teaching leaves a lot to be desired. The class is badly paced, exams take 3 hours to complete when class time is only 1 hour and a half, she avoids students, and relying on tutoring is almost a requirement. Many students have dropped out.
Honestly, she is not a good professor. I could hardly keep up with her lectures as she just talks about random things and doesn't really get straight to the point. She leaves all the grading until the very end so you won't even know your grade until the semester is over. I don't recommend taking her, take someone else, save yourself.
I don't understand why she became a professor, because she does not seem to care for teaching. Email her? She won't reply. Go to office hour? She's not there because she's at some faculty meeting that she scheduled at the same time. Go up to her after class to ask a question? She'll very obviously try to avoid you. Lost? She'll send you to her SI.
I've never had a professor as awful as this- I read her reviews here but didn't have a choice in my prof for this semester- but do NOT make the same mistake I did. She makes up 'trick questions' on tests and will require you to write in an answer, circle multiple answers, circle no answers, etc. She is also very disorganized and cannot teach.
Dr. Amorde is a very kind person and usually available for questions as long as you go to her office. She is extremely test-heavy, but honestly grades pretty leniently for an upper-division chemistry course. She made a very daunting class much more manageable; you just still have to put in a lot of work to get a good grade. Take her class!!
While attendance was never mandatory, it's super important that you attend if you want an A. Orgo isn't easy, but Dr. Amorde is the best when it comes to teaching, and she wants you to learn. You can get an A, but don't expect it to be easy. There's HW assignments & like gen chem, she allows a cheat sheet for exams. Longer cheat sheet=harder exam
Took her for Chem 1311 and Chem 1312, prepare to take lots of notes, but for the tests she gives you the opportunity to prepare a "cheat sheet" so tests don't end up too bad. She is eager and obviously loves what she teaches.
Dr. Amorde is awesome she makes the course as difficult as organic chemistry so understandable and fun by being so passionate about the subject. she is really fair grader and gives you a lot of partial credits for better understanding of what you have done right. I would definitely take her again.
She's fun and easy but disorganized. She'll have like a multiple choice quiz as a postlab, and that's bad bc lab measurements depend on a lot of diff factors, and you can get a bad grade if you don't match her lab results exactly, even if you did well in the lab. She just makes a lot of Blackboard mistakes in general that bring your grade down.
My experience in this class was challenging due to organization and communication issues. Course materials and grading updates were often unclear, which made it difficult for me to track my progress. I would recommend this course only to students who are comfortable learning independently.
No email responses, absent during office hrs, infinitely difficult exams compared to lecture that takes 5-6 hrs to complete. Lots of HW that isn't due until the very end. Cheat sheets allowed. Loads of trickery and ambiguity on tests. SI and tutoring recommended, don't take with other hard classes if you can. Displeasing experience.
Listen, I know her RMP reviews are very divided BUT I would not trade her for the world. Genuinely one of the best profs out there & has amazing lectures, but her tests are hard. Took her OChem 1 alongside Calc 3 & Eng Physics 1 and still managed an A! Gives a lot of EC, but you have to study hard! She doesn't make it easy, you need to put in time!
Fought for my life in this class. Dr is brilliant and hilarious though. Lectures were fun. I did well in this course but needed a study group and several hours of tutoring. Dr. notices effort and there's lots of extra credit. Don't start hw the night b4 exams. Don't use cheat GPT. Tests are hard AF- tricky wording.
