Want to learn from the professor? Not gonna happen. You'll learn from students instead! Want tests over what you learned in class? Def not gonna happen. Read for yourself. Want a professor who won't work with you and is not flexible? THIS IS YOUR MAN
Really great and involved professor. Class is not difficulty, three tests are heavy, but nothing is impossible with the help of the internet. Very inspirational and genuinely cares for his students. I took the 5:30-8:15 class once a week so attendance is crucial. Do your work, put in the effort, class will be easy.
Athanasios is probably one of my favorite professors I have taken in college thus far. Along with the material he tends to throw in life lessons and interesting discussions. All the grades are even in points as well. Follow the syllabus directions for each assignment EXACTLY and you will most likely get an A. You will learn more than you think.
1) Don't tell him that you disagree cause he is the most close-minded, narcissistic man you will ever talk to. 2) Submit your teacher evals AFTER he puts your final grade in. Had a 90 in the class after all grades were submitted, did my prof evals and then got an update from D2L saying that my grade was changed to an 89. WOW, Shawn, WOW.
The greatest class I've ever taken because of the professor, such an amazing character. Most caring and professional guy out there. Life changing lectures.
Athanasios is one of my favorite professors. He's very engaging, and I learned many valuable things from his class. I feel like my communication skills bettered after this class. There are 3 tests, which are completely doable if you take notes from the book. There are also 3 easy assignments and one huge, more difficult project.
Really dives down into soft skills. Lots of life advice in class and really encourages free discussion. He is a TOUGH grader, but also understanding. Class lead chapter presentations are done to learn knowledge and made up of tests and projects.
Make sure you understand that the writing assignments are due ON THE TEST DAY! Shawn's syllabus says otherwise and he will take points off if it's late even though it says it's due on a different day. Shawn thinks he knows everything about everything and is very philosophical. His test questions are very open minded. Great guy, hard tests! JAAS!!!!
Tests are heavy and based on the book, so read carefully the book. On the other hand, the professor is very inspirational and give advices that will help you in the future. I will definitely take this class.
I enjoyed this class. Professor Athanasios is actually really easy to talk to. I read a review that he doesnt like being disagreed with and that cant be further from the truth. If you do the work you will pass but if you are someone who slacks off you will struggle badly. Even still he seems like he would try to help you pass.
He is amazing!! Very stylish and very inspirational. He does a lot of open discussions so don't be scared to talk in class. Very specific on what and how he wants assignments But overall Great guy!
Very specific about format but doesn't give you enough information to do the assignment's content. Nitpicky about EVERYTHING. Doesn't seem to understand that you have other classes or that all students have a different set of circumstances. Not the most compassionate, just prepare to dedicate a lot of time to this class.
Easily the best professor Ive ever had. He keeps the lectures engaging on topics that would normally be mundane. His projects are a bit difficult but nothing too crazy.
The class itself is easy and straightforward. His teaching SUCKS. He doesn't answer questions, he is petty and tries to make you feel inferior, and his rubrics are so ambiguous, he just gives you whatever score he feels like and there's no concrete evidence for why you got the grade you did. He only tries to take points away. Take anyone else!!!
Mr. Athanasios will not only teach you the knowledge for passing this class, but he will also give you the knowledge to be successful in the business world. The material of this class is not hard, but work must be put in to receive the grade you want. If you want to be successful in your future career in business, TAKE THIS COURSE.
Shawn Athanasios is a very unique and compelling professor. He always shows up well dressed and poised. At first, I questioned his teaching style but as the semester progressed I began to appreciate it more and more. I found myself analyzing my future and the goals I had set for my own life. As a business owner, I highly recommend taking this class
Mr. Athanasios has hands down been my favorite professor in my 3 years of college. His assignments were challenging at times, but they were very few of them. He did a fantastic job truly teaching business communication; his lectures were based on his experience and not the textbook. With that said, he still uses the textbook for tests which i liked
would not recommend at all
find another professor
hated this class wish I had taken it elsewhere
The single worst professor I have ever had. Took his online course. Will NOT answer any single question. Marks points off both assignments and exams for no reason whatsoever (took points off a project introducing myself, said I didnt have life in my voice??). Has a huge ego and is sexist. I have a lot more to say but word limit. Avoid this man
Worst professor I've had yet. He doesn't open any of the assignments up until the week of. One of those assignments was the week of the election but he would not give an extension despite all that was going on and was worth %15 of my grade. Got one little thing wrong on one and got an 87. Does not give any feedback. He loves to see you fail.
Unfortunately, the covid situation made the class almost totally online. I would've gotten more out of it had it been totally in person. Communication is a subject that requires a lot of attention to detail, and this professor understands that. He definitely makes you put in the effort, and his class was one of the harder ones I've taken so far.
Him and his class were a waste of time and money. He never even had a single lecture the whole semester and just threw a textbook at us. Grades EXTREMELY unfairly to quote him only truly exceptional people get 100s. Majority of the class agrees that he is a terrible prof. He even sent out an email today BEGGING students to write him good reviews.
He definitely writes his own reviews. He emailed us trying to convince us to leave a good review LOL, but majority of the class hates this course with this professor. Save yourself some time and money and ignore these fake good reviews. Find a professor that genuinely care bc this egotistical, power hungry professor could care less how you do
does a really good job at acting like he cares while he screws you over big time. Has been harder on us with this pandemic, and this class is the only one that's been stressing me out. He doesn't do much to help us up rather than telling us to suck it up. All my other professors have helped so much
take my word for it - don't take his class
Shawn Athanasios is a rose among thorns.. The energy that he brings to the classroom is unparalleled, and that energy stays with you after you've left. If you're interested in learning things that you will use for the rest of your life, this class is for you. People like Athanasios are rare these days.. don't miss your opportunity to meet him.
Never held even a single lecture, hands out grades or just takes off points whenever he feels like it. Sends emails begging students to give him a good review on this website. Cant answer any questions that students have. Avoid this class and save your time and money.
He definitely doesnt put effort into his class or students. Everyone has struggled all semester and sadly most of our GPAs will be falling because of his class. He usually contradicts most of his assignments and grades extremely harsh. This prof needs a major evaluation from UNG so that other students dont experience what we have. DO NOT TAKE!!!!
I took his class online. We had a couple of projects but they were fairly easy if you read the book chapters. The tests are easy if you read the chapters for it. The hw is very easy. He emails back almost immediately and answers your questions that you may ask. As long as you put some effort in the class and care about your grade youll be good!
taking classes during Covid is so annoying but this professor has been a light at the end of the tunnel for me. If you want to learn how to properly communicate in business this is the Professor you need. He has supported me all semester in and out of the classroom well zoom room now a days. Anyways he responds quicker than anybody and he cares.
Professor Athanasios was pretty good. I had him in the fall of 2020 and he did great with the obvious restrictions we had that semester. We had weekly assignments which were easy and weekly class discussions over featured Ted Talks. There were 3 exams and a final project. This course was not too demanding but pretty average in work load.
Lots of real world application from Professor Athanasios' class. Whole semester was laid out with descriptions of all assignments at the very beginning. Exams were difficult when I neglected the textbook, but they didn't make or break my grade. I got more out of this class then I put in.
I swear all these 5 star feedbacks are Athanasios reviewing himself. I studied and studied for the three exams that we had and still received super low grades. He gave you no way of studying for them but would test you on minuscule parts of the chapter. So all these reviews saying the tests are easy if you study that chapter are BS.
This professor is the most unreasonable grader I've ever had. You'll be down a whole letter grade if your spacing is off. He will teach you absolutely nothing other than what he and his wife achieved. The only tool you have to "learn" is your textbook. I wish I could've left the quality rating at 0 for the amount of effort he puts into the class.
Professor Athanasios is one of the most kind, understanding, and well spoken professors I have had in my 4 years at UNG. He truly cares for his students and wants you to succeed in the workplace. He brings real world experiences to the classroom and meaning to the text that you read. I would take Professor Athanasios' class again in a heartbeat.
This professor has a superiority complex, but honestly that is ALL communications professors. His grades made no sense and would never explain why I would not receive a decent grade. He acts like he cares but he does not at all. Avoid this professor at all costs.
He is a good enough person but like the other reviews say, this class will hurt your GPA. A 90% is the highest grade you will get in this class. The final project will make you question your existence. The material is not difficult, but the way you are graded on it is backward, with questions like "what is the least wrong answer". Take another COMM
He comes across as extremely self-righteous and talks about how much he makes as a lifestyle coach frequently. Definitely my least favorite professor of the semester. Almost all of the grading was extremely specific and harsh, and I spent eight hours on one assignment that he gave everyone 100s for without reading any of them. He bugged me.
Super nice and funny guy but thats as good as it gets. Toughest grader ever and everyone in my class agrees. The final project should be illegal & so should the amount of time I wasted. I busted my butt the whole semester to end up with a C. Shouldve been an easy A so take another prof!
Worst professor I have ever encountered. Well I signed up for his short class during the summer which was supposed to be 1 month long. On the very first assignment he sent us a whole new rubric the day of the test and ted talk was due and the project was due 2 days later. Protect your grade and stay way from him!
One of the rudest professors I have ever had. Sure, he will answer your emails quick. Does he actually listen to what you're saying? LOL, no. His instructions on assignments are almost always contradicting, which caused my grade on several projects to be much lower than it should've been. Do yourself a favor, don't take this professor. Please.
Great professor and uses a different teaching style to give the material to the class. If youre good at presenting, this class is a breeze. If not, better start practicing. I dont agree with everything he talks about but he appreciates you not agreeing.
I took this class online. 3 projects, 3 exams, and 4 Discussions. The exams are difficult, but if you read the textbook chapters, you will do well. The projects are time consuming, but you will do fine if you READ THE DIRECTIONS!! You can get an A if you put in the work, but it's not an easy A. I would definitely take this class again! Great prof!
Every class, he says, may the force be with you! Dynamic, engaging classroom experience. Never a dull moment learning the concepts. I do wish he made it easier to study for tests. I wish he would release his powerpoints to study the material. You have to present three times. This course helps prepare you for life.
Professor Athanasios clearly knows his stuff about career coaching. His assignments did have clear directions. However, he was a very tough grader for stuff. You will absolutely have to work for your grades in his class. He did admit that he short-cuts somethings for the online version which makes me feel like I did not get everything I needed.
Professor Athanasios was a great professor. I really enjoyed his class and would take it again honestly just because he is a great guy. He gives wonderful life advice while giving lectures if you pay attention. Not a hard class to pass, just do the work and come to class! Loved this class.
Professor Athanasios is awesome! If you're looking for a fun, yet challenging class, this one is for you. Athanasios is very patient and understanding. Just do your work and be on time for assignments and you will do good. Focus on reading, not memorizing in the book. Hope this helps.
This Professor is very engaging and encourages discourse. He also gives life and career advice for his students so they strive for success. Assignments are well detailed and you can get an easy A if you follow the instructions and put in effort. Exams are very difficult, be sure to read the textbook. Overall, very caring professor. Amazing class.
Listen friend: Ignore the negative reviews. He is a tough but fair grader in every sense of the word and rewards the hard work you put into the class and his lectures. If you walk away with even 10% of the value his teachings in both academia and in life have instilled in me, you will come out as a better student and insightful person as a result.
Tough/picky grader, 5+ papers in 2 months, unrealistic expectations with technology, would not recommend this class online, he knows there is less time to cover the material, yet he seems to not edit any of his teaching from when he teaches full semesters. You will spend an entire week doing one assignment because of how dense his rubric is.
The guy is funny and nice but cocky. He lays out all of the assignments for the semester and explains the directions at the beginning of the semester. After the first week, he just sits back on his butt and lets the students do the teaching and presenting. A Very lazy class set-up. The homework takes way longer than it should, just pointless blah
Genuinely one of my least fav classes ever. It wasn't necesarily the hardest class I've ever had but its just a bunch of meaningless fluff. He has the students teach the class and grades way to harsh. He loves to talk so much that you end up just sitting their listening to stories constantly. The whole class could be summarized in half the time.
Its doable, the content seems super easy but the work you do with the content is hard. Treat it as one of your more time consuming classes and you'll do alright. If you stay after class and talk to him he will try to help if you are struggling. The work is annoying and he grades harshly but its not impossible. Its useful stuff but a little silly
TAKE HIM!! His class is challenging, but I have never had a professor as great as him in my entire life. His assignments and tests are hard, but if you pay attention and do the work, you will do great. This class will not only prepare me for the business world, but we discuss so many different topics that will help me in life as a whole.
Professor Athanasios is genuinely my favorite college teacher. His lectures are inspirational in the way he relates the material to your life. If you are going to take this class, there is no better professor. I believe this class should be a necessity because of the importance of what we learn. He will give you useful skills required in life!
10/10, great professor, really makes you think. He isn't the easiest out there but with some effort there is no reason you cant get an A.
Professor Athanasios has a thorough understanding of both business and standard communication. He understands that the subject is best taught through experience rather than lecture and offers plenty of opportunities to practice communicating. Furthermore, he shows genuine enthusiasm for both the content and the students learning.
If I could give Professor Athanasios a million stars, I most definitely would! His class makes you think, and (in my opinion) was very motivating. He pushes for nothing but greatness inside and outside of the classroom. Tests overall were average, if you read the chapters as you go you are guaranteed a B+ or A!
I really enjoyed his class! Even though the course consisted of presenting in front of an audience at the end of the day I knew that it would help me enhance my presentation skills so that I can use these skills in my future career. Excellent Professor, and really cares about the students and I would most definitely take him again.
I think this class would've been way better in person. It felt like he brushed his online students to the side. Tests were tricky and long. A few projects with a lot of detailed instructions. Follow them very closely! Overall would not recommend this class be taken online, in person's probably better. Tough grader & pays attention to every detail.
AMAZING person. So inspirational. Wants to help you be a better person and student. Presentations were nerve racking but he helped you through them. Is ALWAYS there to help. Assignments were SO clear and so were his expectations. He changed my perspective on so many things and I am so glad I had the opportunity to learn from him.
He was a great professor he really cares about his students. He gives amazing lessons and genuinely cares to teach you to think for yourself and find different ways of seeing things. Class is never boring with him as he makes it interesting and always has something to talk about. The class was easy all he asked was for us to participate and listen
Took the class online. The class wasn't too difficult, but he assigns you a TON of work. It does help you for the tests, but just go in prepared to have a lot of work assigned to you.
Easy class, but the professor makes it hard for no reason. He also "preaches" so much, so get ready for sensitive topics to be brought up in class. Instead of learning, I found myself tired of hearing him talk about his personal life. Again, class assignments are easy but the professor talks too much about irrelevant and SENSITIVE topics.
Not impressed with him. Had a simple and basic interaction with Shawn and he chose to be incredibly rude and hateful. I choose not to treat other human beings like he does. I don't recommend him at all after my experience. Good luck!
If you have the option to take Professor Athanasios, DO IT! I loved this class and how he taught it, it offered lots of opportunities for grades to help keep your grade up. He is very understanding if you miss class do to being sick or care troubles like I had, but I did show up every other class I could. The topics were very interesting in class!
This class was my favorite business class I have ever taken! Prof. Athanasios brought so many cool topics to discuss in class and the projects were very very manageable. The grades were valid for what we were doing and pretty easy grades, there is also a HUGE extra credit opportunity towards the grade of the class at the end! 1000/10 recommend!
Pretty laid back class. Homeworks are very long but easy. Tests are kind of hard, but he curved the grade. There are some things he is very particular about. I wouldn't not recommend him.
Professor Athanasios is a great professor! He truly leans into the classroom experience and what it should be. He works hard to engage the students in conversation while encouraging them and motivating them. If you participate and give into the conversation in the classroom; he really does make class fun. I suggest taking it in person.
Professor Athanasios is big on getting the class involved in discussions and goes into detail on each chapter and how it can be applied to real-life. He is very encouragaing and wishes for the best in his students. Tests can be more challenging, but you're able to make up for them with the assigned speeches and projects along with homework.
Great professor! He really wants you to succeed and he will make you do work. The work is easy as long as you follow the examples and directions. He gives really good life advice and makes learning fun. Class feels shorts because of how entertaining he makes it.
The class itself is not too difficult, but it is endless busy work. He makes you do so much homework that he is ridiculously picky about and he is a neurotic grader. It's not the hardest class in the world, but there is nothing profound that you will gain from it and the homework takes away from time that could be spent actually learning something.
I took this online class expecting it to be an easy class, but it is not at all. The content isn't difficult but he gives WAY too much work for an online class, and it is almost unmanageable. He also is a really tough grader. I would not take him again.
This dude assigns so much work it's insane. It wouldn't be as bad if he didn't include so many stipulations and directions. You will spend so much time doing all his work and then he'll grade it super harshly. I wouldn't take him again
This professor is probably pretty good for an in-person class. He is not the greatest for online classes, but can be understanding at times. The amount of work required for a class this short is ridiculous. Make sure, when writing, you adhere to his personal preferences; otherwise, he will be sure to deduct as many points as possible.
For a one month class this was an insane amount of work, I cannot stress that enough. Its as if he crushed a busy semester long course into one month with no reformatting. I never got one comment on the content of my projects, good or bad, just the format and grammar. There was not enough weight in the homework for how long it takes. Unrealistic.
You'd be better off letting a 4 year old teach. 1 month class, so an intense workload is to be expected, but this course was simply outrageous. Outside of the HOURS of textbook work due every friday, other assignments seem fairly straightforward until your grade gets updated and you see a failing grade on a RESUME. Unreasonably tough grader. 0/5 :(
I took his class over the summer and it was alright. However, the workload he gave in one month was too much. He grades too harshly. There are times where he does not respond to emails even if you write them exactly how he wants you to write them like in the syllabus. Do not take his class unless he is the last professor available for the course.
This online course uses a platform which has a poor grading system. He is incredibly strict with grading and overloads you with work during midterms and finals. It would be tolerable if his assignments and grading was reasonable. He makes a seemingly easy class incredibly difficult.
Professor Athanasios is an amazing option for an in person class. He gives a lot of valuable insight on emotional intelligence and relationship management which will be extremely beneficial for navigating business connections. It is a very engaging class, just be sure to follow his guidelines for grading and you will do great!
I had carried an A in this class until the final project, where our speech directions were to wear a formal attire. I had worn a dress shirt and pants but was given a C for not being " formal enough". As a lower-class student I was expected to buy a suit for this single assignment, but not told this prior... Material was not especially difficult.
While this professor is relatively strict with his grading he does push for his students to be successful and, even in my online class, made time to meet with me to discuss his goals for the class as well as how it relates to our success in our careers. His class is not an "easy A", but I felt helped prepare me for life after college very well.
He is a very strict grader, everything has to be done by the rubric or your grade will reflect that. Tests are proctored and you will have lots of homework. If you go by the rubric you will be fine, he will also not respond to emails unless they're formatted correctly
The material is easy and not too much work. The problem is that he will take points off for things that's not stated in the directions or rubric. I would take someone else if you can to spare you the headache.
This is basically a public speaking class. Just follow all instructions and you can pass this class easily. You really do have to read the textbook for your tests :(
I took him over the summer last year and it was rough. He assigned so much homework in the span of two months. The test was so hard. It got to the point where studying for the material wasnt even worth it anymore. He grades so strict and wont answer your emails if you do not write it the way he likes it. Take someone else but if you cant good luck.
Professor Athanasios made an introduction course one of the most practically useful courses I've taken after over 60 credit hrs. Future entrepreneurs, managers, and leaders should take his course because he is a great example of a fair, kind, and productive leader. You'll need to stay ahead on assignments and read the textbook to get a good grade.
He's a great professor. I'm bummed to see how many bad reviews he has. He holds his students to a high standard, yes, but it prepares you for the real world. I missed a test and he was so understanding about it. You don't find professors like that. Read the rubrics, the stuff you do is actually helpful. Don't let the negativity here scare you!
He has 2 class presentations in his course, 1 is with a group and 1 is the final grade. Sounds scary, but as long as you practice, it's all good. He asks very thought-provoking questions, which help me follow along with the material. He provides practice tests to prepare you for his tests, and some of those questions are on the actual test.
Professor Athanasios is a passionate lecturer, but he's not for everybody. He does a group project and a final speech, so get comfortable with public speaking. He's a fair grader and gives good feedback, but his attitude can be a bit jarring. He's a life coach, so his class can get preachy and he likes to talk about himself. Read the textbook!
The class i took was busa 3108.
Great professor! Take this class if you really want to learn about the business world. You choose your group for the presentation and give a final speech. Presenting isn't my thing, but it's doable. He's funny, the class is practical, and you'll learn a lot. Hard to fail!
