The most enthusiastic person I've ever met. If you're looking for a pretty easy elective, take one of his classes! His lectures are amazing, don't bother getting the textbook because he goes over everything very thoroughly in a manner that makes you want to go to his lecture while accomplishing the goal of helping students find their true values.
Shawn Brady is the best instructor! His lectures are very organized and clear. He assigns reading nightly, but it is useful. Although I hated philosophy Shawn made it a very good class. He is very helpful.
I loved Shawn's PHIL100 course! He is so fun and enthusiastic the lectures are always worth coming to. Do not skip class on fridays, there is always iclicker questions that you will lose credit for.
Shawn Brady is a firecracker. He is a great guy and a great teacher. He is very helpful and understanding. He bounces around the screaming trying to keep the students involved and make the class more fun. Iclicker points are taken almost everyday.
One of, if not the best teacher at CSU. Very engaging in class, and gets everyone involved, as well as funny. Hes a great teacher, show up to class you wont regret it.
Great teacher, not necessarily easy but you will learn a ton about yourself as well as the class. Go to class, study for tests, maybe some office hours and you'll get an A or B.
This was my second class with Shawn and I only have one word to describe him as a professor- PHENOMENAL. Philosophy in general is a very tough, abstract subject, but he really makes it as clear cut as he can. He is so enthusiastic and engaging in lectures, and makes philosophy simple (if you go to class). Favorite professor by far.
Guys, stop what you're doing and take a class from this guy. He's the real deal. Knowledgeable, passionate, caring. If he's this great in an online forum, I can't imagine how fabulous he is in person.
One of the best teachers I've had. Fun and energetic
TAKE THIS CLASS!! There are a lot of grade boosters and professor Brady is amazing. You will not regret it.
You know Charlie from It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia? Ever wanted to take a philosophy class taught by him? Well here you go. Brady is fun, entertaining, and will NEVER give a boring lecture. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Shawn Brady! Hands down the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are fun and great to be a part of! I actually looked forward going to his class. He rarely has any homework but usually short readings in the book and an online quiz a couple times over the semester. Study for the tests and write good papers and you'll do great.
Shawn is so excited about what he teaches. He definitely cares about it. Go to class and do the readings - you cannot get by on just skimming. There are a few papers and exams, but as long as you study and follow guidelines, you'll be fine.
Brady is the best intro level college professor you will ever have. He is extremely animated and funny and makes his lectures extremely engaging. Be ready for his spontaneous outbursts of yelling. Cares a lot and gives clear instructions for papers. Tests all MC. He helped me find my love for Philosophy as I am now a PHIL major. Highly recommend!
Lively personality and really funny. He encourages participation even on a large lecture hall and often gets a conversation going among the class. Clicker points and interesting lectures, you shouldn't ditch the class. Never bought the textbook and was fine.
I would highly suggest taking PHIL100 with him. He made class go by fast and always got the class involved even with 180 students. Make sure you go to class every day if you want to do well, you do have iclicker points. Also, he doesn't post his lectures so this is another reason to show up to class.
Moral and Social Problems was my most favorite class in all of CSU. It taught me things that have changed my life day to day, and Shawn Brady is the absolute best professor at CSU hands down. Class is so easy if you just pay attention and do a bit of reading, it'll really make you think. He cares a lot about his students and his class.
Professor Brady is a very respected professor. He really cares about all of his students and he tries to learn everyones name by the end of the semester, out of 100+ person class. He is very energetic but he is a lot of fun to have as a professor.
If you ever get the opportunity, take a class with Shawn and you will not regret it. He loves interacting with students and the entire class is just a huge discussion. There're lots of iClicker questions, but he has so much enthusiasm that you'll want to go to class anyways. I loved his teaching and is by far the best teacher I've ever had.
Best professor at CSU hands down! He's full of energy and makes lectures entertaining! Go to class everyday because he does points for attendance. Easy A if you do the papers and good on the tests! Highly recommend
Shawn Brady is the only reason why philosophy is so interesting. The conversations we have in class are difficult and confusing but he makes it so easy to understand, and makes it fun and super engaging. Definitely would recommend to anyone. He takes the time to actually memorize almost everyones names in the lecture hall. Hes so great
He is very passionate and does a great job of explaining the content. You wont fall asleep in class.
my first day of class & he's already amazing. really energetic and passionate and excited to teach about philosophy and really wants to make you think for yourself
Shawn Brady was one of the best professors I had at CSU. He actually made you want to go to class and listen and participate in the discussions. He gives you every tool you need to succeed in class so USE THEM! Go to class everyday because he doesn't post his slides online, so get as many notes as you can to do well on exams and quizzes.
Halfway through the course and I understand why some people are inspired by this prof's passion for the subject, but he definitely has a temper and will go on yelling tangents when somebody doesn't do what he likes. Has had to leave the room a few times because he got too visibly heated. Not a super encouraging learning environment.
Going to Shawn Brady's class is like going to church. Brady will challenge you to question why you believe the things you believe and justify that in an argumentative paper (the only big assignment in this class). SIT IN THE FRONT! I will say, though, that if you choose not to engage in the content/discussions that you won't enjoy it.
Shawn has been one of few professors that I did not like. The environment for learning is not encouraging. He tends to go off on tangents that he passionate about, but if you say something that he doesn't like, be ready to defend yourself. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. And be ready to do some work.
Easily the best professor.
At the beginning his class seemed very interesting and like something that I could really get into, but as the semester went on it became apparent that Shawn has a temper issue and can be very petty if someone is doing something he doesn't like. He has yelled at and embarrassed multiple students during class and has taken away their in class points
So passionate about what he's teaching and unbiased. Going to office hours helps a lot and you don't really need to study for the test as long as you understand the concepts he teaches in class. Never had to use my textbook. One of the best professors I've had at CSU.
Slides are not posted, so you have to show up. Random attendance is taken through in-class assignments. He is very accessible outside of class if you need help, so take advantage of that! I found Shawn to be a tough grader, especially on the two essays. There are two tests that aren't very difficult if you study a little and pay attention.
Shawn is one of the best professors I've had at CSU. He is engaging and likes to have great conversations with anyone in his class. The only bad thing I would have to say about him was his implication of clicker points for being on time to class, but even that was temporary. I would 100% take him again if I had the opportunity.
Amazing professor! He truly cares about your education, hes clear when explaining things and does it in different ways. Their is plenty of reading but honestly its interesting and as long as you do it you should be fine with quizes and exams. Also, some assigments are in-class and participation points are given. Hes great you wont regret showing up
10/10 Recommend Shawn Brady!
I LOVED this professor! He really cares about the students and knows everyone's name, and if you need to speak to him after class, he makes time for you. He is a tough grader, though, but always give you a chance to get a better grade. His high energy and passion for the subject make for an amazing lecture! You will not be sorry you took his class
He's a great teacher and really cares about learning instead of passing. He's flexible and understands that life happens sometimes. He makes the content fun to learn and his lectures are entertaining. I'd take his classes again. Take this class!
Shawn Brady, is definitely one of my favorite professors. He is funny and makes class very interesting, as well he teaches you a lot. It's not a heavy work load, but you do have to do work. He teaches you a lot, and it's a very interesting, and intriguing class. He as well is always willing to help students, just be open to communicating with him.
IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE, TAKE A PHILOSOPHY COURSE FROM SHAWN BRADY. I am a STEM major and I absolutely loved this class. Shawn Brady is an incredible teacher and really opens your eyes to various aspects about the world we live in. He is incredibly energetic and passionate about teaching philosophy. Such a fun class!!
Brady centers his class around the students and discussing their ideas on philosophy related to short class readings. Hes a very funny and lively professor and I found myself excited to attend his lectures.
Professor Brady has been my favorite professor so far at CSU. He was great at leading class discussions and didn't teach to the test. He was focused on nurturing passion and a true understanding of philosophy. He is one of those professors you attend the lectures for even if you don't take his class. You're bound to have fun and open your mind.
I know a lot of people love Dr. Brady, but I just didn't click with him. He gets very into his lectures but off topic sometimes. I think he is very smart, responsive, and gives good feedback, but the class was just too slow for me. If you need a good intro-to-philosophy class, I would recommend it.
Great teacher in class and very passionate about philosophy which made the class fun, but he lowered my grade to a B from an A because I skipped the last day of class to attend my sister's college graduation. I asked if this would be ok and he said yes, without telling me that he would dock my grade so much. Kind of an ass about attendance, but fun
He is very passionate about philosophy! Moderates really valuable conversations and makes the concepts easy to understand. I will say, though, don't skip class! He gives daily attendance points that add up. I would have gotten an A (easy) if I would have gone to every class, and I only missed 2. I did well on all the other assignments.
Shawn Brady is so passionate about what he teaches and just makes you really want to go to class. There were plenty of times i didnt want to go to class but i knew it would be fun so i did.
He seemed very chill at first, but as the semester went on we saw that he became angry very easily to the point of yelling at and embarrassing students for small things. If youre doing something he doesnt like he will be petty and purposefully ignore any questions or comments you have.
I took PHIL 100 and Professor Brady is great. If your interested in philosophy at all hes definitely gonna challenge your way of thinking. His class is focused on your thinking which leads to some great discussions in class. If you go to class take notes and do the i clickers youll probably get an A, and at the very least youll pass.
Shawn is a nice guy, and his lectures were very engaging as he is a very loud and proud presenter. The reason I score him so low are because of his quizzes. These are the most ridiculous quizzes I have ever taken in my entire life. All of the answers are basically the same, and literally everyone fails them. And are they curved? Nope.
Shawn is the most engaging professor I've ever had. As long as you attend most of the lectures and take notes from time to time, the quizzes are very manageable. Attendance points do contribute to the overall grade, so while class isn't MANDATORY mandatory attendance it is very important nonetheless.
If you have the opportunity to take a class with him you need to. He is so passionate about what hes teaching and does a great job of keeping the content engaging.
Shawn has been my favorite professor so far - will probably be one of the most engagement-demanding and provoking courses you take. classes consisted of engaging lectures intertwined with discussions with classmates. Shawn encouraged class discussion and took volunteers rather than mandatory whole-class participation. highly recommend, few essays
Professor Shawn's class was my favorite. The course does require a good amount of critical thinking which challenged me at times, but regardless I always looked forward to coming to his class because of his engagement with the class. He genuinely cares about each student of his and wants everyone to succeed. I highly recommend this class
Professor Shawn's class consists of critical thinking/evaluating followed by a small group and whole-class discussions. Multiple writing assignments throughout the course. 5 open notes, online quizzes (don't be fooled you still need to study), and 3 short paper essays! These assignments will challenge you but professor Shawn offers support always
Shawn is an amazing professor, his lectures are very engaging and he is an overall really nice guy. The only negative thing I would have to say about him is that his quizzes are pretty tough and sometimes confusing.
Literally worst professor Ive ever had. Doesnt care about personal matters if you miss one day of class you lose points that you cant make up. Quizzes are insanely hard for no reason. Do not recommend
Dude is a horrible teacher and even worse at making quizzes. He puts absolutely ridiculous questions on the quizzes that your notes can't help you answer. I highly recommended steering clear of his course.
It really pains me to have to rate professor Brady like this. He's an awesome guy, and his lectures are very unique and interesting. The bad part is his quizzes. They are extremely difficult, even though they are all open notes and all of the slides are posted. Attendance is mandatory, and it's quite difficult to make up those points.
This dude sucks. He makes me hate philosophy
Shawn is God, and Suki is Jesus. It will make sense but it won't at the same time. Just remember take everything with a grain of salt. Lectures are pretty decent, quizzes are very hard, and recitations are an easy A. Final statement Shawn is God.
He made philosophy so fun and interesting. Most of the class was discussion and he let us go on about each topic as long as we wanted and didn't really pressure us to move on if the discussion was meaningful. He is extremely energetic and early in the morning it is infectious and wakes you up. Tough grader for papers and quizzes but amazing.
Professor Brady ROCKS. He's impassioned, available out of class for further discussion, and pushes students to think and grow. He is intense, very funny, and wonderfully knowledgeable. This class is all about participation. Literally the entire thing. You best be engaged (he makes it easy to get invested) to get the best out of this class! 5 STARS.
This man deserves the world. 10/10. With that in mind, participate participate participate. He's intense, but having the confidence to raise your ideas in class is KEY. Attendance is also huge for him but his humor and subject matter make it easy to miss this class in the off-time. For essays, bring them to him or a TA to check first! They're cool!
Gives A TON of work. It seems like he thinks its the only class you are taking all semester. be prepared for a lot of writing and reading/discussions. I can see he is passionate but don't take the class unless you are ready for the amount of work
he is very strict about attendance. try showing up one minute late, and you will get zero for the participation points the whole class. do not recommend.
Amazing Guy! Very passionate!
Professor Brady is the best professor I have encountered at CSU. This man will jump around, screech, and passionately explain the information from class in great detail. Class is a lot of discussion and he's really good at expanding on your arguments/making you question your opinions. I am amazed by his class every day, you NEED to take his class.
I love Professor Brady, hilarious man and has lots of engaging energy. I will say though, go to class, you will need more information than what is on the slides. Participation matters heavily and you will regret it if you miss class. The essays in the class killed me though. Still would take the class again though.
This class is too difficult and heavy for what it is. Regarding the iclickers, there are timed pop-quizzes that people did poorly on even if they did the readings. The actual quizzes are difficult even though they are open note, and he grades the papers too harshly. Also if you miss any part of the participation points, you get a 0 for the day.
This man has such a sense of humor! I had him for an 8am section and he was always so lively and energetic. He clearly cares about getting students engaged in the class. Sometimes he did have to push us to participate Class is almost strictly discussion based. I'm shy so I don't like talking but other people to the rescue. Get ready to contribute
PROTECT SHAWN BRADY AT ALL COSTS!! This class was not very difficult an had an average amount of homework. Shawn is very spirited and it shows up in his lectures. Be prepared for him to be running around and yelling in excitement. He loves participation but doesn't force you too. Loved this class and would definitely take it again!
I took my PHIL103 class online with Mr. Brady and I have to say this was my favorite online course I've taken so far. He has a talent for breaking down difficult philosophical texts/concepts in an easy to digest way. His tests are challenging but I took thorough notes and normally only missed one out of 10. Would def. take a class with him again!
I loved Shawn's energy and it made my early mornings a lot easier to manage. iClicker is used every day for attendance and you are given participation points every day, so make sure not to miss class. Overall a very rewarding class that is well worth the effort that you put into it.
Showing up to class is a must. Being even slightly late can cause you to get a 0 for participation that day, and those points make up a lot of your grade. He does get frustrated with the class and scolds when people aren't participating. Phil103 is very theory-based, so if you're bad at those, DO NOT take this class.
Personally, I believe Shawn is a great lecturer and was very animated in class. Shawn however, is not flexible WHATSOEVER when it comes to due dates. He got extremely petty halfway through the semester and decided to start doing iClicker at 9:29, a min before class started, if you did not click in by then, no points for you. No excuses.
Incredibly structured class and lectures. Each day felt like a genuinely interesting dive into complex and thought-provoking material. Shawn has a high energy teaching style that will grab your attention and keep it in place. If sudden loud noises put you at risk for seizures, however, you may want to reconsider.
Engaging, energetic, intelligent, considerate, patient, understanding, funny, and a very fair grader. I hope that as many people as possible get to have a class with him, because he will give you a greater appreciation of philosophy, learning, and life in general.
Shawn is such a good professor! He is so funny and makes every discussion engaging. Attendance is mandatory to get an A, but his class is fun so it wasn't an issue! He truly cares about your success and spends so much time giving you wonderful feedback on all your assignments. I would highly recommend him.
I really enjoyed his class, he's a real funny guy and he makes his lectures interesting. In the middle of the semester I found out that I was taking the wrong philosophy class but I wanted to stay in Shawn's class anyways because he was just that cool a dude.
Funniest professor EVER!!! He took so many challenging topics and connected them to the real world in a way that was easily understood. Attendance is mandatory, but his lectures were hilarious so I didn't even mind. There were small group discussions during almost every class, which helped understand the topics too. His way of teaching is so great.
Shawn Brady was a great philosophy instructor! He was funny and had an amazing energy that made every class super fun. If you need to take PHIL 100, take it with Shawn Brady! You won't regret it!
Easy class if you read and attend lectures. He's one of the best professors I have had. Class was always interesting and engaging.
Dr Brady was one of the best professors I had my freshman year. He always made class fun to go to and made it very accommodating to every single student. As long as you go to lectures, pay attention and participate in class, the exams are very easy and it is a fun class. I would recommend him to everyone thinking of taking phil 100 or 103.
I have never rated a professor or even been on the rate my professor website, but this is my least favorite class I have taken at CSU. He pushes ideas on the class and leads people to certain philosophies regardless if thats what you believe. Attendance is mandatory and he is extremely difficult to work with.
This may have been my favorite orifessir st CSU. As an engineering student who took Prof. Brady's class as credit, i couldn't recommend it enough. He is engaging snd allows you to think for yourself expanding ideas sround beliefs you may have limited knowledge about before.
Prof Brady is very engaging and makes lectures fun, however he has certain rules and lots of handholding that made me feel like I was in middle school again. I do not enjoy philosophy but he made it easy to follow. Doesnt post slides or lectures so attendance is a must. Nice person and welcomes feedback, but strange class rules tbh.
Mr. Brady is one of the most charismatic, engaging, and kind professors I've had thus far. I looked forward to coming to class every single day. Great professor if you like to express your ideas and discuss the many complex facets of philosophy. If I could take him again, I would in an instance.
Shawn Brady is extremely charismatic. Attendance is the main part of the grade in the class, but he makes all the lectures very entertaining, so it really isn't a big deal. He posts a reading assignment every week, although their annoying, they can be completed within 20 minutes. As long as you pick a good group, you should enjoy this class.
I would 100% recommend this class for a easy AUCC! He is absolutely hilarious and a fair grader as well Quizzes are all online!
Brady is very involved with the class, so much that he actually memorized everybody's name before the semester even started and that created a very personal environment. He is a very engaging talker and makes philosophy interesting and gets the class very engaged.
I LOVED THIS CLASS! I 100% was looking for more of his classes to enroll in by the end of this semester. Be aware the first few weeks are spent discussing moral theories, not moral issues. As the class progresses however it gets into different more interesting moral issues. I was never bored in his lectures, he performs them quite literally.
It was very reading heavy and a small assignment accompanied the readings, but this was graded on participation. There were group writing portions for each test and individual online tests. This was very discussion heavy and participation matters. You need to be in class and he doesn't allow any guests in class. His GTA was also good. Very funny
I have never had a professor act so incredibly immature in my life. He gets extremely angry. He has cussed students out on multiple occasions. Assignments are not too hard if you read however, they take a lot of time. I would never take a class from Shawn Brady again and would not recommend him.
He's certainly super funny and outgoing. But without the humor, he can actually be super rude. Outside of class, he can be very passive-aggressive and difficult to talk to. With every new class, you never know what you're going to get. Some days, he's funny and nice. Others, he curses at us and yells at us. I would not take his class again.
One of the most energetic professors I've had. You NEED to show up to class prepared (i.e. do the readings) and be ready to talk. As long as you got that down, you'll enjoy this class. The best part is you can actually apply this class to your real life- something I cannot say about many classes I have taken.
I would not recommend Shawn at all. He is very passionate about philosophy but to the point where he yells so much.He all around is rude and hard to talk to. Class content was cool but I would've enjoyed it more with a different teacher. This is the first class I've taken where the professor actually makes me hate the class.
Good professor its just super hard to pay attention to class, he is great but he lets the students go on tangents about personal experiences that get lost and then there is no clarification on what we should take notes on and what we shouldn't. It was great, you read a ton just be ready for that, and be ready to talk a lot in class.
Awesome professor! The readings were really the most time consuming part of the class but his lectures break them down well. He is really passionate about what he teaches and encourages many different ways of thinking. His assignments aren't difficult but they rely heavily on his lectures and a thorough understanding of them.
He's super passionate and his lectures are super fun, also isn't a super tough grader and gives good feedback! However reading truly does matter, has a lot of rules that make me feel like i'm in high school, and sometimes gets very angry with the class and can act semi unprofessional. As long as you are polite and do the readings its an easy aucc!
He's clearly passionate, but he is highly disorganized and unprofessional. One day he had us write "we f***ed ourselves" because he messed up his modules, and then he never went to correct his mistake. Makes a lot of passive aggressive comments under his breath. He also picks favorite students and is more lenient with them. Unprofessional dude
Harsh grader that takes the class way too seriously for a 100 level course (but enthusiastic). Swears and yells a lot, making the environment feel unwelcoming at times. Gonna go against rmp guidelines and say he definitely has fav students. If you're sick, he won't accommodate. He seems like a nice guy but it doesnt really show in this class tbh.
