Has his T.A. grade all the work and she marks off it you didn't type the correct date. He is a lazy, unclear teacher that I wouldn't recommend to anyone who wants to learn the material. He gives you a 1/5 if you come late to class. He also uses the same material every day, he doesn't seem to realize that the world changes.

Seriously, the worst professor I've ever had. He does not teach well from the Book of Mormon so if you'd like to learn the stories from it a little better, he's not the teacher for you. He's rude in emails and just not a very upbeat teacher. No redeeming qualities about his teaching.

Do not take this teacher. He is very rude and arrogant. I did not enjoy his class at all. If I feel prompted to share something in class I will, but he will dock you points if you do not. He claims to not grade you on your spirituality but does. And he promotes telling on other students. DO NOT TAKE HIM.

Does not care about student honor, he only cares about what he believes is evidence. He is a lawyer and will give lawyer like answers if you try to reason with him on anything.

Don't take this class is the best way I can put it. He wasn't compassionate at all and often made me feel stupid if I disagreed or didn't understand something being taught in his class (or if I put the "wrong" answer on the assignments). If you struggle with speaking up in class be prepared for a docked grade. I usually left class feeling terrible.

He teaches very well but he gives SOOOOO much busy work!! it doesnt feel like a religion class, and you will be wondering if your even learning anything from the homework. all the hw is the same throughout the semester.

DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! Brother Dorman gives loads of busy work, his test are difficult, and he makes you feel insecure about your understanding of the gospel.

Super nit picky as well as very critical on everything and won't ever give a good score on any assignment. BE SMART and don't take the class because you won't pass. Each assignment takes over 3 hours to complete and will make you depressed. Every week I have to ask why I got a zero for a completed assignment that meets all of the criteria.

This instructor is the worst I've had at the school out of all I've had. Since the beginning of class he has belittled me and some other students, picked favorites among others, preached about his own greatness and has torn my work to shreds as well as 2+ students I know of. He is rude and doesn't give a chance for students to get good grades.

I'm sure he is a nice guy, but as a teacher he is one of the worst I have ever had. Religion classes are meant for feeling the spirit, drawing closer to God and trying to become a better person. In his class I never felt anything close to those things. He forces spirituality making it impossible to enjoy the scriptures. DON'T TAKE HIM.

Do yourself a favor and do not take this guy. Whenever I came in it was my time to take a nap because he is so boring. He gives out so much work, which is expected from a college class, but not a religion class. You are supposed to feel the Spirit but I never did. You have been warned.

Unless you speak in every class, you'll never get a good grade in class. Everything that you turn in will be grader by his opinion, not if it actually goes along with the Church or the school. Basically, conform to what he believes or you won't pass.

He is arrogant. Interrupts students. Religion classes are meant to inspire and motivate, he judges and sets expectations that his students lie. Devoted an entire class to talk about past students lying on their assessments. You have to comment in class and report what you say. Gives huge work load for a 2 credit religion class. Condemning.

He has a very strict policy about homework. Each week you have to complete the same assignment and it gets very repetitive. Does not allow students to be on their electronic devices otherwise he will dock their grades. If you don't follow his rules exactly he will drop your grade.

So nit-picky! He was so specific and not accommodating. Wouldn't take from him again.

Do not take from him! You might as well take an online class. He gives a lot of work, You get graded on attendance and participation every class, if you miss a day you get graded on the absence twice, and there is no room for an open discussion only discussions that are to his point of view.

Don't take this class!! I took him my first semester and it was so bad. He requires you to make comments but belittles you when you do. Also, sometimes he doesn't call on you even though you raise your hand and he'll dock you for not participating. I left his class once to use the restroom for 2 mintues and he marked me absent. What a joke.

Course Material is amazing because it is the New Testament. If you want a challenge this is the class for you. If you want the easy A look to another teacher. At the beginning of the semester he complained that people call him a Pharisee. Overall great class but I would choose another teacher who is a more Humble.

I can't believe the way he grades. He gives a ton of assignments and makes it impossible to get a good grade. If you try to talk to him about it he is very difficult to talk to, didn't feel like he was trying to help me. Never walked away from this class with a good feeling and didn't feel like he cared. This class honestly hurt my testimony.

Hardest religion class I've ever had. If you don't have perfect reading retention, be very afraid!

I did not like his class at all. He did not inspire me as a religion professor and really just came across as being really prideful. I felt his religion class focused more on honesty than the new testament. I am accountable to God to be honest, not Brother Dorman.

Doesn't allow electronic scriptures but didn't specify that on the registration page. Teaches deep opinions as doctrine. Ignores students with questions. Expects his class to be put above others. Doesn't communicate assignment expectations with his TA. Difficult quizes. Packet is required but everything can be found online for free.

Readings are 2-3 talks per class period and a few scattered scriptures. No prep for quizzes. If you're late or don't make a "significant contribution" to each class you get docked points, but he lectures all class. Assigned seating. Wouldn't recommend to new converts, old converts, or non members. Classroom is hot, I start sweating when I walk in.

I swear this guy has to be one of the worst teachers I've ever had, and for a religion class! He takes himself way too seriously, demanding way too much and being ridiculously hard on his grading. His tedious assignments where he takes off points for ANYTHING. Long boring lectures, arrogance, Never ever taking again.

I'm a straight-A student, and I failed his class three years ago. Honestly, his class was the hardest class I've ever taken. Who fails BOM?! I retook it with a different teacher and got an A, easy. His tests (in the testing center) are ridiculous. He wants you to study specific details as if it were chemistry. Didn't feel the spirit at all.

He's a cool guy but HEAVY HEAVY workload. 1500+ words worth of writing per week not including the monthly projects and the participate-or-fail lectures. This class took more work than the rest of my classes, including MV Calculus. He's a spiritual guy, but I did not feel the spirit in his class. I'm sorry to say it, but he seems a bit prideful.

If this class just consisted of the lectures, it would have been great. However, the amount of homework in this class is absurd. This class made me write more than any English class I've ever taken. The homework load, to me was infuriating, which made it impossible to feel the spirit, which in turn made it impossible to do the homework.

It's ironic that a class centered on Christ would knock off so many little points for "vagueness" after typing 250 words every. single. week. WHAT MORE COULD YOU POSSIBLY WANT.

Brother Dorman is up there as the worst teacher I have ever had. He is so full of himself, arrogant, and the work load is unnecessary. For a religion course you have a lot of writing assignments that consist of 1500+ words for each week. The quizzes are tough and expects you to get through them in one hour when its nearly impossible. NEVER TAKE HIM

I was very excited about this class as I really wanted to have a full class devoted to the Savior. Bro Dorman seemed to make the class more about him than about the Savior. I felt like I answered to him about my honesty and not to God. He is always very well prepared but on his assignments he is very picky on elittle thing wrong and goodbye grade.

There is so much work. I don't mind the reading but you have an assessment every week and it's like he is grading you on your English skills. You lose points for incomplete sentences or not being specific enough. Also at the end of the semester, you get to tattle-tale on other students. I thought we were adults, not first graders.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!! RUN!!!Expect to read for hours, do not expect much discussion in class because his slides are more important, and if you ask if it would be possible for more class discussion expect to receive an email from him saying that those who struggle in his class are usually arrogant or prideful students... fun times :P

Not recommended even a little bit. This is by far the most difficult religion class I've ever taken. I did all the work for every class, and worked for 2+ hours on the end-of-week reports. He tore them to shreds every week with the nitpickiest grading you've ever seen. He has prepared slideshows to mock students who email him for help or leniency.

Don't take a class from him. Seriously. I had more work in his religion class than any of my 300/400 level major classes. He's a tough grader who doesn't show compassion. I've never been graded on my religious experiences before and I hope to never be graded on them again. His work sucks the Spirit out of the scriptures and will leave you stressed.

You will put more work into this class than any other class during the semester. I had so much homework every single night for Brother Dorman. It's not my favorite when teachers show more about what they know instead of opening it up for a class discussion and we all learn and participate with each other. Will not take another class from him.

Very Very nice man who is a great teacher.... although, he treats you like your in Jr. High seminary. You must ask to use the restroom and are required to explain to him any reason you had to walk out of class. Very hard quizzes and ridiculous amounts of reading while still expecting you to complete your personal studies.

I wish I rated this teacher before I took a class from him. Nowhere does it say you cannot use electronics for this class but when you get there he tells you there not allowed. I guess I cant feel the spirit using my mission ipad scriptures. He also requires us to give him an explanation why we left class, even for the bathrroom. Its ridiculous.

I would never recommend a friend to take a course by Professor Dorman. Honestly made me hate religion class. I took his New Testament course and immediately began to regret not checking him out on here first. The guy runs his class like a nazi. Very intelligent but the worst class i have ever taken at byu. I loved the things I learned in the class. But Brother Dorman has 0 mercy and is all "justice". Aka, he has no sympathy and almost strives to have you fail his class. He was a lawyer, so his grading is very strict. I would never recommend this professor. He is also very 'cut and dry' during his lectures which i feel takes away from the spiritual learning of the class. He also docs you if you don't participate. lame.

Grades extremely hard for a religion class, which is made to be easy and enjoyable for the students. Very strict on class rules and electronics policy. You can complete each assignment and do it correctly, but he is VERY specific about what he is looking for. I would not take a class from him again.

It almost felt like he tries to make his class impossible to pass. Hes very letter of the law, to the point that its too much. It felt like he was focusing more on our grades and if we participated in class than what our actual testimonies were and what we were learning about the gospel. I felt it almost impossible to feel the spirit in class.

I went into this religion class expecting to feeling the spirit a lot because it is so focused on christ and that was definitely not the case! I was miserable going to class if you miss class you will be deducted tons of points even if you bring in a dr. note for an excused absence. this is the same case with participation. 11/10 do NOT recommend!!

Brother Dorman's class makes you put in far more work than you get out of this class. The lectures are surface deep and the work is tedious. He is a disinterested and frankly rude at times. Would not recommend taking.

He is very clear with his expectations. He teaches religion, yet you'll feel like you're taking an academic course. The workload in his class is equal to two-three classes. He is very specific about his instructions, and he'll deduct points with every instruction you fail to do.

he was the worst teacher i have had. the work load is for a 3 credit class even though its just a two credit. He tells you to be honest on the workbooks yet deducts you points if he doesn't like what you said. You have to make a contribution in his class for points, and he talks the whole time so you cant.

Worst religion teacher I have ever had. So un-respectful to students and does everything possible to not give A's. Religion in some ways shouldn't be graded and the fact that we have to be graded on our spiritual experience in the temple is way too personal. He assigns egregious amounts of reading and punishes you very harshly for not bringing all of the reading materials to class every day. It's very easy to lose a ton of points by accident.

Was about to give a devotional in his class, when my girlfriend called me and said to take her to the hospital. Talked to Bro. Dorman about it and he said that he understood and wished us luck. Failed me on the devotional anyways with no way to make up the points. Screw this guy

A very tough grader. Get ready for long-winded redundant assignments every week. Very lecture heavy and seems to not really care what you have to add in class.

Brother Doorman will make you feel like the spirit is a chore. He will grade you on your testimony and cause you to feel insecure. His teaching model is flawed because everyone in the class has to participate each week for credit. If the spirit impresses you to say something, you shouldn't speak for the sake of putting other peoples grades in peril

Apparently everything is by his rules and if you make any kind of mistake its not his problem. He is very clear on what he wants and his class is hard because of his inflexibility towards anyone.

Brother Dorman is a good person. Spiritual lectures however I have many classes from him and I have heard the same lectures over and over. Seems like he doesn't really prepare lectures just reuses them over and over. His grading is ridiculous and harsh and there is no room for error on your part and he isnt very understanding of you.

I felt like I was graded on my testimony and felt like it was done out of fear. I didnt enjoy his course. We would ask questions and hed put up this wall and get defensive or laugh about the questions asked, so I never felt open to ask. With the lack of participation, my grade took a slope downward.

Probably one of the most disrespectful, stubborn and prideful professors Ive ever had. Ive never had a class where I felt like I was graded on my testimony. He was sarcastic to other students when they gave certain answers or asked questions. I once was given a 0 for not raising my hand to leave for a bathroom emergency. He is big on participation

Dorman was the single worst professor Ive ever taken. I was sick from Thursday to Sunday and went into the doctor on Monday. In class on Tuesday, I gave him my doctors note. He said it would only be an excused absence if I had gone to the doctor at the time of his class, and attendance really matters. Avoid this teacher, there are so many better

Super nice guy, but insanely unfair!!! You leave class for any reason you get marked absent. Unshaven you will get points marked down. Every week you have to do this 4 page performance assessment which is graded totally unfairly. Class is all lectures and as he talks he gets super quiet you cant hear him. Easily the worst religion professor I have ever had. If you choose to take his class, be prepared for him to subjectively quantify your spirituality (and hold it as the primary component of your grade) and get really rude and obnoxious if you ever hold an opinion that doesn't line up with his own. He is very passive aggressive and does not teach well at all. You have to prove your testimony by doing these weekly assessments. For example he grades you if you didn't say any thing in class, you have to say something in class for a grade. That is the worst motivation, so now everyone says something to get a grade instead from the spirit. sad.

Absolutely awful professor. His heart is in the right place but his class is comparable to a 4th year class in a religion degree. I happened to see the class grades one time towards the end of the semester and I did not see any A's.

Had the chance to see his grade book and I couldn't believe that there were more people failing his 200 level Book of Mormon class than my 300 level Organic Chemistry class.

This guy doesn't understand that his class isn't the only class I'm taking this semester. There were some weekends where I was doing more HW from this class than chemistry. On top of all that "Shawn" spends all class talking about himself. He sets himself to be our example rather than Christ. UNLESS YOU HATE YOURSELF AVOID THIS IDIOT.

Thought he was cool at the beginning of the course by the end he is giving me Fs not for lack of effort on my part. He does not grade fairly. If you say something that he does not want to hear you will fail, even if its true.

Quizzes are equal to word searches -A lot of work, feels more like a chore -Participation is mandatory, if your comment is good he will mark you in a little notebook (really annoying/disrespectful) while you are talking -Your testimony is graded -points lost for going to bathroom, and other things of that nature -any other teacher is better

Do not take his classes, he's a very smart guy who knows his stuff. However the classes consisted of far to much busy work than is necessary. He graded us on our growing testimonies and that is just not right.

I took this professor last year and I'm still not over how awful of an experience that was. This professor is giving me nightmares and I haven't seen him since. Sometimes when I'm trying to sleep I'll all of a sudden start to worry that I have one of his weekly assignments due at midnight. If you don't spend 4 hours on his HW you will fail.

Brother Doran is someone who makes me never want to take a religion class again. Take my word for it and do not sign up for his classes.

Worst religion teacher I have ever had here at BYUI. He is unforgiving, cruel, and lacks any kind of compassion for his students. As a religion teacher, he does not understand the concept of what a testimony is. He is unfair and should not be teaching at a place that believes in the values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

ROUGH! talk about IN DEPTH WORK. you study and then come to class and you are discussing what you read last week instead. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I even talked to him and it was good but he just gives excuses of why he teaches the way he does instead of trying to take feedback. Getting through the lesson is most important.

You are graded twice on your attendance. Once on your weekly performance assessment (which will take you 3 hours to do) and once on your overall attendance. His quizzes are crazy hard and you only get one hour to complete them. You have to participate at least once per week or you get points docked - even if he doesn't give you a chance to speak.

While I did have a good grade coming out of this masochist paradise, it was simply the hardest A I've ever had to work for. The material isn't difficult, the teacher is. His grading is the most nit-picky insulting garbage I've ever seen because no matter how hard you try, he will always find something to rip points off with. Avoid this teacher.

Terrible terrible terrible. Don't take this teacher at all costs. Very high and mighty and arrogant. He grades super hard for a religion class and removes the spirit. He can't be reasoned with. He is vindictive and hates students. He is nice to your face and then he will stab you in the back.

Brother Dorman is the worst teacher I have ever had! He is rude and vindictive. I talked to him about an incorrect grade and right after he gave me the point back he took another point away from a different assignment that wasn't mentioned in the discussion. Don't take a class if he is the professor. Hardest A I have ever gotten.

Mr. Dorman makes BYU-I look bad. This is because he embodies everything which the church and school resent. He is prideful, insulting, and refuses to work with students. There are plenty of exceptional teachers in the religion department, so why would you take a sub-par teacher like this? He doesn't even look at these reviews.

This class was a headache during the week when it didn't need to be. There is more homework than what a 2-credit course should consist of. For grading, I felt like he was always itching for a way to lower the score, and even dock you for things not included in assignment or rubric. I got more frustrated than from this course, not spiritual growth.

Ok yall I did his temple assignment and was docked points because i reported that I went to handle the workload of the classIm a working student with classes that should be way more difficult than his and its the opposite. Docked me nearly half off for murmuring instead of understanding that I was struggling with 5 HOURS PER ASSIGNMENT!

He is a horrible religion teacher. I honestly never really felt the spirit in his class. I would get docked points for eating while on a zoom call. Not like a full course meal but just for snacking on some cheese its. He is looking to mark points off. He even makes you buy a silly " book," its just the talks he uses in class, so he came make money

His tests are hard. His assignments and reading take forever. He takes off point if you feel like you didn't put in the best possible effort which is stupid. Even over zoom if you talk to like your roommate for a second your docked points. If you're looking to enjoy a religion class and feel the spirit, don't take this class. Very frustrating class

Avoid this professor at all costs. I needed to go to the bathroom during class and he docked me points. I talked to him about it and he told me that I should bring my zoom class to the bathroom with me. If you leave the camera at all you will be docked points. Isn't that a little nuts? I don't want my classmates looking at me while on the John.

With the online class, he locks every assignment until the one before it is completed, so it kind of defeats the purpose of taking an online class at your own pace. This means that if you forget to turn in assignment due on Mon, you wont be able to turn in the 4 other assignments due on Sat. He will try to find every little thing to doc points for.

Make sure you read EVERYTHING in each assignment's rubric, because he will actively seek to take away points for the smallest errors. He seems extremely distanced from students and cares little for how we do or progress spiritually. Please do not take this course from him, as you will have a much better time from literally anyone else.

Terrible professor. One of the most inconsiderate professor's i've ever had. It's a religion class, but even just the first two weeks of school he has said many rude and unempathetic things to some students during class and is extremely strict. Do not recommend taking any class from him ever.

I have had several issues with him and his class throughout the semester. He is rude to students during class, sometimes teaches false/deep doctrine as if it was fact, has unkind and harsh TAs, has way too much reading and not enough class discussion, and his tests are full of trick questions. I wish that I had never signed up for his class!

This is hands down the worst Professor I've ever had. He is so disrespectful to students and he isn't helpful when you reach out to him. He is so strict and wouldn't work with me when I had unforeseen circumstances. If you want to keep your sanity, don't take this professor.

Don't take his class online. Dorman is the least understanding professor ever. One day, I had a panic attack before Zoom class, and contacted both him and the TA, letting them know the situation and that I'd have my camera off for a few minutes while I calmed down. I got docked points for that, despite communication. Class ran late every day.

He is the absolute worst professor I have ever had. He will dock you points for being gone even if youve talked to him about it or if youre 2 minutes late. He is a stickler for the grooming standard and even pointed out a student got a beard card to the entire class. Definitely shouldnt be a teacher.

I got an account on here specifically to review this instructor. Let me start off by saying - I have never had a bad instructor at BYU-I... until now. Some aren't very personable or involved, but I don't think I've ever encountered anyone so intent to set their students up for failure. So disappointed. I gave up - he crushes any spirit you have.

Worst teacher I've ever had. Docked me points for eating breakfast in first 2 minutes of class, even though we'd worked out that it was my only chance to eat each morning & agreed on a compromise before the semester started. When I contacted him about it, he yelled at me, docked me more points, & threatened to take away all points for the semester

I have never in my entire life had a teacher that is actively working against you. The harshest and most unforgiving grading, and the most difficult tests you will ever take. His classes are a masochists' paradise. Save yourself the trouble and don't sign up for his class. If you already did, drop it and take it from someone else.

If you love yourself you will not take this class from this teacher. During the first day of class I had a strong feeling to drop the class, but I thought I was going to be okay. Halfway through the semester I just had it with him and dropped. I had an A- in the class when I dropped. Super stressful class and thats why I left. Did not feel uplifted

Made wierd remarks to other students. Made me very uncomfortable. Very controlling. Very manipulative. Not a good guy. Avoid this class at all costs. Im very concerned that the university still employs him.

No excuses unless you have a doctor note is acceptable for an absence, which affects your grade. Cares less about student growth and more about the word requirement on assignments. Grades on participation but gloats about himself during the lecture giving little opportunity to participate. I went to the bathroom during a zoom class and lost points.

Gave 110% but could not, even if I tried harder, get a 100% on any assignment at all. It's a religion class. You get F's for not having the right spiritual experience. Worst professor I have ever had.

What do I love most? The fact I only have him twice a week. If I had to describe his REL250 class, it would be: getting graded on whether or not you can make a major personality change, in 3 months.

If you wanna keep your sanity, DO NOT take this class. If you want to get a 100% on every assignment, DO NOT take this class. If you want to have free time and have a social life, DO NOT take this class. Bro Dorman is a great guy and has awesome things to say, but the assignments alone will send you over the edge with how involved they are.

Mr. Shawn Dorman is one of the most hypocritical losers at the school. Do not take his class. I emailed him with questions and he refused to listen to me. I went to his office and he got hysterical and called me a "worthless brat." His TA's are trash too. Overall, if you would like to retain your testimony, do not take this class from him.

I forgot my name on my paper and I got a zero, I missed class once and my grade dropped, I speant 6+ hours on Saturdays trying to make sure I answered all the questions well enough to not get points taken off and would still get points off. My computer crashed when I was turning in my final assignment, I asked to turn it in and he said no.

I should've dropped when I had the chance. I went to class sick many times because attendance is mandatory. If you love yourself, you will not after this class. My faith was small to begin with and I felt awful after he graded me because I tried so hard on the assignments. He made me borderline inactive. Manipulative and controlling. DO NOT TAKE

Hes genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. My testimony took a turn for the worst after attending his class. Would not recommend unless you want to feel like offing yourself all semester.

He really loves what he does, its hard to have a discussion in the class because if what someone says is not his lesson plan, then he ignores them and just says what he wanted them to say. Quizzes are tribal. The class is just reading quotes, so its basically going over what we read. Just get the same experience by reading the Infinite atonement.

Unfortunately there is no option to give a 0. His way of teaching helps some, but it is apparent by the reviews here that it does not help the majority of students. I wouldn't say this class hurt my testimony, thanks to the fact that I quickly learned not to listen to a word that was said., but it was certainly was not uplifting and left me drained

The worst teacher I have ever had here at BYUI. He told me that I would never be able to serve a worthy full time mission because he accused me of lying, which I was not. Well, jokes on him I did serve 18 months, learned Chinese on my mission too, married in the temple & still a member of the church no thanks to him and his disgusting behavior.

Part 1: There's simply not enough characters in one text box to describe everything wrong with this man. He is by far the most awful, rude, stuck-up, overbearing, pretentious ect "brother" I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. - Impossible to get a 100% in his class - Extremely harsh in dealing with students (SEE PART 2)

I will start by saying that Brother Dorman is a good person. A good teacher? Not so much. I’ve read the reviews on here and went into his class open minded too(or atleast I thought I did). I’ll tell you, when I asked if I could make up for days I missed to help my grade,(part 1)

He will not work with you and will always try to be right. Do yourself a favor and take from someone else.

This professor was extremely difficult. I did not like him. It was hard for me to have spiritual experiences in class, and I didn't appreciate the way he taught the class.

Brother Dorman is the worst religion professor I have had. He grades on participation but never calls on students to read or share experiences. He likes listening to himself talk, seemingly wanting to come off as prophetic and profound. His quizzes have material on them that you would have to do deep searching for if you did not use Google.

He's a horrible teacher. DO NOT take any classes from him. He docked me points for leaving class 5 minutes early to attend my senior capstone presentation that I had to be at to graduate. When I talked to him about the missing points, he got very defensive and rude. He deleted his comments so that I couldn't see them after a certain amount of time.

He gives good lectures but he doesn't care about your personal life. If something goes wrong he thinks there a solution no matter what. It bugs me since I was having a hard time and he only made it harder for me

I wish Brother Dorman could be more helpful to the students. I get that this is a college course, but he treats it like this class is the most important class we will ever take in college. I know he has good intentions, but sometimes I feel that he does not have the students best interests in mind. If you want a normal class. choose someone else.

This was the hardest religion class I have ever taken. The grading is very harsh and the guidelines on assignments aren't super clear, so it makes it super hard to get a 100% on anything. He lectures the whole class, with great insights, but very little interaction or class discussion. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take from Bro. Dorman.

Easily worst professor I have ever had. Unreasonable, manipulative, grades based on his personal opinion of your spiritual growth, prideful, loves to hear himself talk, will never admit he is wrong. Honestly he should never be in charge of teaching a class on being more Christlike. He is proof that God has a sense of humor. Testimony destroyer.

This class was made way harder then it needed to be. You will not get 100% on any assignment. He grades very harsh, is rude to students in class, and does not bring the spirit. Take any other teacher.

Brother Dorman used to be a lawyer and you can tell from his lectures and assignments. He teaches in an antiquated fashion REQUIRING a physical textbook and scriptures in class. He requires word counts that any scholarly article will tell you promotes bad writing and answers. If you ever work ahead on assignments he will dock points for cheating.

BY FAR the worst teacher I have had for any subject at BYU-I. He puts trick questions in his quizzes, which is ridiculous because the gospel is supposed to be simple. Also, he takes no time to get to know his students on a personal level. He makes you go way into detail about personal experiences and expects students to be doctrinal geniuses.

I would say that overall Brother Dorman is an okay teacher. He brings the spirit and I have gained a lot of insights from his class lectures. This class, however, was hard. There were points taken away even for the tiniest mistake on assignments and the quizzes expect you to be an expert on every topic. I wanted to drop this class multiple times.

He was a nice guy in person but he is a tough grader on assignments, will not let you re-subbmit assignments OR retake quizzes. IF YOU WANT A EASY CLASS WATCH OUT!!!!!!

Easily the worst teacher on this campus. The hundreds of negative reviews couldn't be more correct. He's judgmental, arrogant, and will not give you any mercy. He marked me absent from class and dropped my grade because I left to go to the bathroom. I guess he wants us to urinate in our chairs. If you enjoy pain and suffering this is your professor

I took from Dorman my 1st semester- TERRIBLE. I have never had a teacher who works so hard and actively against you. He is the toughest grader and I believe that he takes pleasure in docking students for the little things. I came to class wanting to learn about Jesus and feel the spirit- impossible to do in this class. Do not take from this man.

Shawn Dorman is a self-righteous, uptight, holier-than-thou know it all. I have never had a professor work so actively to bring my grade down. The homework is more intense than calculus. Stay. Away.

took 250c its a paper only class, like if you have a phone or laptop out you could get points off. Long weekly assinment sometimes two, goes over time quite often only by a couple minutes. i loved the subject but he was a tough grader, very picky on the assinments.

Professor grades assignments harshly, and is a micromanager. Some of the assignments are connected, so if you get a question wrong on one of the assignments, he takes points off on future assignments. You have to go to class otherwise you will fail.

Just don't take this guys class if you want a good grade. Kicked a girl out of class one day for sitting closer so she can see and she dropped the class. A positive is he offers extra credit at the end of the course. The reason is because he fails so many people but still its there.

The only redeeming quality of Bro. Dorman is his inspirational lectures. I had a appt with him mid semester to discuss my C in the class, and he pulled up the grades in front of me, revealing my grade was actually the average across all his students. I told him right then I was dropping the class.

It seemed to me that he cares more about details than doctrine. On his tests, there were some options that I thought were correct but had weird wording. It seems he likes to trick students on tests. He also docked me 2 points for going to the bathroom and not telling him after class why I got up. Treats college adults as high school students.

Not much mercy or sympathy.

Im not a person who leaves bad reviews on anything. That being said Bro Dorman is a terrible professor by every metric and I felt a need to report. I may write a book on why you shouldn't take his class, but for now just take my word for it.

Quite literally the WORST professor I have ever had! He has you do 5-page assignments every week for a religion class. The rest of the reviews are completely accurate, do not take a class with Brother Dorman!

Incredibly hard grader that lead to a lot of frustration on weekly assignments. He hardly lets anyone participate, and only lectures the whole class period. I would recommend finding another teacher! He does seem knowledgeable though.

I will refrain from using the kind of words I would like to say, instead I will say this. I would never, not in a million years, EVER take a class from this man. The copious amount of 1 star reviews are truthful, anything above a 2 is entering bootlicker territory, and I'm convinced any 5 star reviews are self-reports from him.

He was not understanding of anyone's viewpoint other than his own. Didn't have kind things to say about students who may be lgbtq, questioning their faith, etc. He was very rigid, and you couldn't question anything he said.

10/10 Pretentious! Incapable of perceiving view points from anyone, for any reason.

His grading is very intense. And he doesn't give many of extra-credit opportunities for if you inevitably fall behind.

I would not take his class if you are looking for a chill religion class for the semester. He has too much homework and reading for a religion class. He expects you to be absolutely perfect in all of your assignments and performance assessments. 1/10 Do not take his class.

If you somehow end up in this class, get out as soon as possible. Participation is required but there are no opportunities to participate. The grading is based on how close your answers are to his opinion. Lectures are long and hard to endure, despite entertaining false doctrine being spewed. Rather than be uplifted, I dreaded this class. Fire him.

Don't take classes from him. He lectures the whole time, expects a lot, give tons of stupid assignments that take hours to complete, and will always find something wrong with them. I did not enjoy studying the gospel for this class because it just felt like so much unnecessary work. He shared a lot of cool principles but gave way too much work.

Brother Dorman means well, but his class is tough. He expects so much from his students that it makes spiritual growth more of a chore than anything else. I would suggest looking for a easier class, but if a teacher seeking perfection in a religion class is what your looking for than you have found your place.

Just had my first day with this professor and he said the class is going to be in an AP format so it will be extremely challenging. He said it isn't for everyone so he understands if you drop it. I personally think classes like these can be hard to actually grow spiritually in so I dropped it immediately.If you want an easy religion class stay away

This man should not be teaching! He shares students private information with other students in the class, totally violating FERPA. He announced my disability to the entire class as an object lesson on having Christ heal you! And I wasn't the only one...He seems to target people with disabilities and thinks he is above the law. Disrespectful.

Do not take class from this man. He disclosed my disability to the entire class without my consent and violated Several Laws. He is a bully with no regard for students privacy. Would not Reccomend

This is a 100 level Book of Mormon Class and it is my hardest class. Brother Dorman is ruthless with grading and has marked me down for putting the wrong date on assignments and not being clean shaven even when I had shaved the morning of class and had a 5 o'clock shadow, the quizzes are also impossible hard. Do not take his class!!

He made me doubt the gospel almost every time I was in his classroom. He puts himself on a pedestal and judges others and claims that the scriptures give him room to do so. He took points off an assignment when I said he shouldn't laugh about a girl's miscarriage. Being a teacher gives him a power trip, and he will try to make your life worse.

This man is the worst prof at byui save you mental health and sanity and do NOT take anything from him

So much to say in 350 characters. - Ruthless grader - Almost every question on every assignment had a word count - REFUSED to waive a late penatly even though it's because I was out of town for my grandmother's funeral - He needs to be the center of attention - Regular reading quizes have questions designed to trick you - Doesn't trust others

If you don't have the foundational understanding of someone who has served four missions, do not take him. He will grade you on content that was never discussed and expect that you do not use notes or any outside tolls other then your knowledge. This class left me sobbing and not with a stronger testimony. 0/10 DO NOT RECCOMEND.

His parents claim he was going to the Apostle factory when he got here. I can't imagine any Apostle being so pious or pompous.

If you hate writing essays, this isn't the class for you. All of his assignments require an essay. He's very picky when it comes to the weekly assessments. He doesn't always respond to emails. He'll dock you points if you don't shave (did that to me almost every week, although I did shave before all those times). This class isn't a level 100.
