He is a good teacher, and he wants you to succeed. Tells you everything you need to know for tests and quizes, and gives excellent "practice problems" for them. He allows you to drop one qiz and one test (including the final!)-take him if you just want a grade; not the best to learn from.
Great Professor! Tests are open note/open book and his review q's that he hands out before the test are almost identical to the actual test itself. He is more than willing to help anyone outside of classtime, and even though the tests are open note I learned a lot from him. I really liked his method of teaching.
Excellent teacher. Even though the tests were easy, the easiness of the tests seemed to be more related to learning a lot in the class than simply the tests being easy. :-)
Awesome teacher, will bend over backwards to help you. One of the nicest profs I've ever had, great guy, I'm taking 407 next quarter--and only because he's teaching. The whole class loves this guy. Take him!
Knabb has a great lecture style and he made economics make sense after the first day. His tests are quite fair and he even allows a one page (front AND back) cheat-sheet on which you can write anything you wish. He also jumps at the chance the help you during office hours. I hope I take more classes with him.
3 tests and you can drop any one. easy A and i didnt have to take the final.
Sean is an awesome guy. his powerpoints are REALLY clear, more than willing to answer every single question totally wants you to understand every concept. tells how econ can play into everyday life. really friendly, you get a 2sided cheat sheet for every test. whole grade is based on 3 tests, but he drops your lowest. HIGHLY recomended
He gives you his old tests to study, which gives you a pretty good idea of how your test is going to look. If you just study the things he emphasizes, you should be able to at least get a B+ or A-. He gives 3 tests and only 2 count, I got an A and didn't have to take the final.
I am very hard on professors on this website. But honestly Knabb is a good prof. He goes through powerpoints and his class can be a little boring at times but he explains his material and his midterms are open book but extremely long. Overall I think he is the best business prof I have had so far. He is a very nice person too.
one of the best econ profs i have had yet. on par w/storer and krieg. he tried a new style this quarter which was easy enough if you know how to do algebra and some calc. you get to drop one test including the final. he is great if you need extra help. highly recommended, i'm taking another one of his classes next quarter.
Knabb is a bit crazy, he rattles on for ever about little things - BUT the guy is a genius. He is very very helpful if you dont understand something, just ask. And he will tell you everything you wanted to know (this also pertains to "sample" exams which mysteriously resemble the actual almost perfectly!!)
Awesome guy! I would recommend him to everyone! 3 tests you get to drop one, I didn't take the final and got a B in the class
Great teacher. Could not ask for better. Take this teacher if you need a great GUR or for your business core. His office hours are a great help.
You will (should) get "A" in his class as long as your brain functions. I was taking nap in his class and studied a night before the exam (but I stayed overnight tho), still got an A. I am not bragging seriously! he is one of the easiest professor!
professor knabb is nice and wants his students to do well. he gives you questions beforehand that are supposed to be just like the exam but there not exacly alike so study more and make sure you fully understand what he is asking. hes lectures are pretty boring in my opinion, his voice just put me to sleep everytime. nice, i would take another.
His class is really hard but he will explain it until you understand it and is usually available for office hours. His exams are almost exactly like the practices problems he gives out, but its still really difficult. He is a great teacher and very enthusiastic about subject.
I dont think it is possible to make 307 a "fun" class, but Knabb does a good job of teaching very dry material in an easy to follow manner. His exams are straitforward since he tells you exactly what material will be on the exam and provides great practice problems. He also curves exam grades!
Excellent and engaging professor. Knows the material very well. Study guides and practice questions for tests are available. I aced both the first and second midterm exams that I didn't have to take the final. Study the study guides he provides and avoid missing class. Also, try to read the chapters for the MC part of the tests.
Professor Knabb's classes are tough, but if you are dedicated to going over the material at home you'll be fine. Tests are excruciating, so if you take his class know that what is on the exam is not always what was discussed in class. Be prepared for trick questions!
Knabb is a great guy and a solid professor. I recommend taking any of his classes. In his upper level classes however, his attention to student comprehension is humorously bad, but he makes up for it with take home tests (after the class bombed) and spoon feeding questions for the final, so grades are generally good. He's a great prof, take him.
Great Prof. He makes everything simple and straight forward. Do the study guide problems he gives you for the test and you will ace it
Knabb is a really nice guy. He is very kind to 101 students and shores a lot of info but only tests on what you should know. All his slides are posted to blackboard. Great class.
Great professor. Very helpful outside of class if you have any questions. His lectures are very straight forward and easy to follow. The book isn't needed, just go to class and take good notes. A very generous grader on exams. I'd highly recommend this class with Knabb.
Great professor. He really makes the effort to simplify the material so you actually remember it. In this course, he let us bring in "cheat sheets" for each test, which were pretty straightforward anyway. Go to class! He doesn't like using Power Points so without regular attendance, you might get lost.
Really awesome teacher! One of the best I've had.
easy class, don't need to read the book, you can study off his powerpoints and do fine on tests but listening in class definitely helps ALOT. He posts practice tests that are almost identical to the actual tests. Very nice and helpful
Not particularly exciting, but he's a nice guy and the course is easy. And he's very willing to engage students. All the power points are online, you don't NEED to go to class or buy the book. The final grade is from 2 of the 3 exams.
He is super nice and really wants to help you do well. Sometimes he talks on and on about a subject when it's about time to move on to something else and sometimes even back tracks. But if you can keep focus and pay attention you really do learn a lot. He also post practice tests and puts his slides online,
This class is supposed to be easy, but it wasn't. I have received all A's in higher Economics courses, and I got a B- in this class. Stay away, and don't say I didn't warn you....
One of my favorite professors in the Econ department! He tests fairly and right off his practice problems and you also learn a lot. Great professor!
This class is extremely boring and confusing at times. The textbook is almost useless making class mandatory even though it feels like a waste of time. He goes on tangents talking about irrelevant things for what feels like forever and always says "now this is beyond the scope of this class but..." so don't tell us it is a waste of time!!
He is almost too smart of ECON 207. Teaches like his mind is all in upper level econ stuff. HOWEVER this class is pretty darn easy. Don't really need to read the textbook. Just take notes on everything he writes on the board. Transfer most of these notes to your study sheet (which you can use on the tests) and you'll do just fine. easiest teacher
Class was extremely boring, hard to stay awake, he would explain the same thing over and then in a different way 20 more times, he would also get off topic easily. He really seemed to care about helping and making sure you were learning though, reading the textbook helped me way more than his lectures and you get a cheat sheet on exams!
I heard ECON101 was supposed to be easy, but it definitely is not. You learn good things in Knabb's class but it was very hard to sit through a 2hr lecture. He does his best to explain it, but it's dry stuff, no matter who you are. Very nice man. I didn't know this, but I suggest going to him for help after classes.
Great teacher. No hw or projects, just go to his lectures and that's where all the material is. Lectures can be boring but he tries to go slow so everyone understands. Offers a lot of help outside of class. No required textbook. If you pay attention and get additional help when you're lost, you'll get an A. Such a nice guy too!
I hate economics, but surprisingly Shawn was one of my favorite teachers I've had here at WWU. He is incredibly smart and really really cares for his students. He makes sure he isn't going too fast for the class, and his lectures are very 'to the point' and relevant to the exams. He has 3 exams overall and drops the lowest, so final is optional.
Knabb is one of the best teachers I ever had. Stay after class if you can and talk with him about economics as I did almost every day. He wants to help you and will talk to you about careers, and anything you want to know about economics. He is extremely intelligent and a wonderful professor. I chose him for my advisor I got along with him so well.
Really great Professor! His expectations are very reasonable and very clear, and he is very easy to talk to and helpful during his office hours. I did not think that I would enjoy an economics class this much, but I really did!
Highly recommend
He is the GOAT
Great professor! Enthusiastic in the subject and very willing to help. Test questions accurately reflect class material. Overall good teacher.
VERY BORING. But pretty clear in explanations. Easy lecture course.
Shawn very obviously knows what he's talking about. He's a professional in the industry teaching you how to define data, but leaving interpretation of the data open for debate. Easily the best economics professor at Western. If you're thinking of taking this class, take it with Knabb.
You can tell Shawn cares about the success of his students, as he offers study advice, office hours, and answers questions in class. You really don't need to buy a textbook since it isn't used in class. DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS he posts. They are very close to the exams. He drops the lowest exam INCLUDING the final, where you can use notes!
Easy-going and nice man. Lectures are long, but he always lets us have a 10-15 minute break after an hour. Textbook use isn't necessary, but I highly recommend doing the online practice problems he posts. No hw in this class either, it's mostly lecture and studying outside of class. He drops the lowest exam score & lets you use notes on exams.
He's a pretty average teacher, just be ready for lots of diagrams and lectures. His power points are very straightforward and he also posts them on canvas. He likes to go off on tangents but is still an all around fine teacher.
Doesn't lecture well. He's used to teaching upper divisions so when he teaches 101 he teaches a lot that is irrelevant to the tests. Going to class is pointless if you study well. He curves every test by about 20 points. So it's easy to pass. Cute old guy who is probably an excellent father.
awesome guy freakin bad A
Only grades are 3 tests and a small homework grade. A lot of pressure but he makes sense and is easy to get help from. You have plenty of chances to get help before tests and he doesn't want to fail anyone so they're all curved which is nice (except for the final).
Disliked class and teaching style. He spends most of his time telling you about what Economist do rather than how to do things. He tends to get on tangents and says the word 'what' a lot. I counted it one lecture and on average he said 'what' 3.9 times a minute. He's kind of like Dora the Explorer that way, always asking questions nobody answers.
There are three tests, so if you aren't a good test taker do not take his class. He is super passionate about Economics but his board work doesn't break down step by step how to figure out the problem from start to finish. Not my favorite professor...
I personally think economics is very boring. Knabb makes this class very understandable and you get a cheat sheet of notes for the tests. He is a very knowledgeable man and is very passionate about his field. If you have to take an Econ class I would highly recommend him.
Very passionate and the nicest guy. His lectures can be quite complicated and confusing but there aren't many tricks on his tests so its easy to get a good grade if you know how to do the study guide. I definitely would recommend taking a class with him.
Shawn knows his stuff. His lectures can sometimes get dull, but you can tell he's passionate about economics, and he's a nice guy. He grades pretty easy, and makes it clear what you need to do in order to get credit. He posts all lectures and study guides online, so it's okay if you miss class here and there.
Shawn is a cool dude with sensible shoes. Attendance wasn't mandatory but you do have answer at least 50% of his in class questions via the LaunchPad app to receive participation credit. He also gives homework but if you even remotely understand the material the assignments are pretty easy (and you only have to do 80% of the work for full credit).
Super nice prof, with great, simplified in-class examples. Tests are very similar to work shown in class. If you can show up and take some notes, you'll pass with a decent grade. Cheat sheet allowed for exams. He gives a homework option for 25% of your grade if you aren't very good at taking tests. Final exam score can override lesser exam scores.
He employs a user friendly grading scale, assigns optional homework as a way to help you earn more points, and allows cheat sheets on tests. All this class consists of is lectures and examples he does on the board, but you can skip class & still ace the tests, as he posts all of the content covered in class on canvas. 10/10, would take again!
Best Professor I have had so far within the Business and Economics Department. Econ is a pretty dry subject, Knabb is much better and more engaging that the other guys. Plenty of opportunities to do well, allows you to use a note sheet on the exams, allows the student to choose weather or not to do the homework. Solid guy and great professor.
Knabb is a great professor. He cares about students and makes the material easy to understand. Grades are based off 2 midterm exams and the final. There is also optional homework you can do to help your grade. One full sheet of notes (front and back) was allowed for all exams as well. I recommend taking ECON 207 with Knabb!
He's the nicest man ever. He makes me want to show up to class. Would HIGHLY recommend.
Boring class, but it was easy money. I only showed up about half the days, attendance isn't mandatory. Take this class if you want an easy social science credit.
Very good professor! Complete the online homework on time and you're golden. Tests are a breeze if you did the homework, I got over 100% on all of my tests w/o any outside studying.
Show up to class and take notes (powerpoints give most of whats on tests). The hw is easy and theres not that much.
He is a great guy, but he is an Econ prof, not Finance. He is passionate and can go off on tangents and get ahead of himself, but he tries to better himself from years before. He always makes sure everyone understands. The lectures are done on the whiteboard so no slides. Very kind. Graded on two tests and a paper. Test material is not that clear.
Knabb is a great professor. Hes obviously very knowledgeable and is passionate about his subject. He makes things easy to understand and follow. He only tests you on material covered in class so if you attend, you should be fine. The test arent super hard as long as you pay attention and theres always extra credit questions. I always got As.
while the class could be dull, i really enjoyed Knabb as a professor. his lectures were pretty straightforward and you could tell he cares a lot about economics. he also cares a lot about his students, even emailing me to tell me that he thought i had talent and had i submitted my homework, i wouldve gotten an A. aww!!
Shawn is great! He is a bit rambly like everyone on here says, although he really is passionate about economics and wants us to understand the outside applications of it all. He allows a full page front and back of notes on every midterm, and two full pages on the final. One test is dropped so the final is "optional" if you have a good grade.
Took this class as a GUR knowing nothing about economics at all and Knabb did a great job explaining some tough concepts in an easy to follow manner. He is a very caring professor and office hours are extremely helpful especially if you are struggling with a topic. Highly recommend!
I have had Shawn for two different econ classes now and he was great for both. Really helpful at office hours and is really passionate about what he teaches. Can go off on tangents sometimes but give the guy a break I mean he is teaching economics.
I had him for Econ 101 and he was great. I moved on to take macro and micro and it was pretty much review. He really teaches you what you need to know for higher level economics classes and you go in feeling very prepared. He's very approachable and his tests are a piece of cake, plus he gives extra credit. Got over 100% on every test we took.
This is my second class taken with Shawn, and let me tell you, this guy is awesome. He covers material very thoroughly in class so you have to attend to know whats happening. He asks lots of questions to make sure everyone actually understands, and will go over the material many times if people dont get it. Solid choice if you are interested!
Professor Knabb knows his stuff. You know exactly what you are going to be tested on, which means that the grade is straightforward. I would recommend coming to class because that's where the real value comes from.
I didnt put in the work necessary for this class and got a not so great grade but it was not the fault of Professor Knabb. Seriously great dude and teacher, sometimes hard to read what he writes on whiteboard. Put in the work and youll do good.
Knabb is the best to take Econ with. Allows notes on all exams. 3 exams and he drops your worst one. His problem sets are very similar to what is on the exams. Overall he makes Econ, which is a pretty dry subject, interesting.
Shawn is a great dude. He always ties back what he lectures on to real data, real applications and his own research when he can. As someone continuing in Econ I found what we learned to be applicable. It was a light workload; 3 tests, 50% of your grade for each (you drop the lowest one). Made my winter schedule so much more flexible and enjoyable.
He is a good professor that relate class materials to real life. Only 2 out of 3 quizzes counts towards your final grade 50% each which could sound scary but it is actually pretty nice. And also he curves grading scale a bit so it is not that hard to get an A
Shawn is very straight forward in his lectures and explains things very logically. He obviously knows his stuff, but he often goes off on long semi-related tangents. Course is a little slow paced but you will understand it well by the end.
this class was extremely easy. 50% of our grade was quizzes (that were very easy), and 50% of our grade was working on hw chapters online using Connect, and the hw assignments were basically just going through questions that you could find the answer on in the textbook if you click "take me to this part of the reading". easy A, loved it. good prof
Pretty easy class. Just take notes during lecture and try during quizzes. I took during summer quarter and online, highly recommend if youre looking for something that is easy.
Great professor, I took his FIN444 last Q. Three quizzes that he gives approximately two days for you to finish, and he gives examples and solutions in his lectures so those problems are easy. textbook are from a website called connect and all you need to do is finish the chapter questions that he assigned. I highly recommend his class.
Took this the first quarter WWU switched to online courses due to COVID-19. PROS: - Lectures are prerecorded, easy to follow, great examples/explanations - NO EXAMS, just weekly hw and quizzes, easy if you watch the lectures CONS: - Hw can be time consuming - Have to purchase the online McGraw Hill textbook, was $120
He gives the option to be graded by either just the two tests (50% each) or the two tests (50%) and McGraw-Hill Connect assignments (50%). You are given at least 24 hours to do the test, questions are very similar to those covered in the lectures. The connect assignments were available all quarter, you can get away with procrastinating on it.
Good professor, lots of lecturing, just get ready during finals
Shawn is a great lecturer and is clearly very passionate about the subject! He sometimes goes off on tangents during lecture and he makes the subject genuinely interesting. The homework isn't very hard just make sure you take the time to do it because it can be very time consuming. Overall Shawn is a great choice for economics!
This class was pretty easy. However you definitely need to show up to do well on the tests and take notes. The homework takes a lot longer than the textbook says so beware of that. Tests are hard but open note. IMPORTANT: if you want to copy and paste from the textbook, copy before you lift up from highlighting the text. Otherwise it wont work.
When I registered for this class it was listed as an online synchronous class, but this is actually an asynchronous class. There were supposed to be meeting times every week, but these didn't always happen, and when they did it was more like office hours than actual class time. The class itself is pretty easy but it is not what I signed up for.
Mans an Econ Prof, but I wish he was a full time Finance Prof! Super cool, quirky and engaging! Beware his trailing pop questions during class, theyre kinda cringe tbhBut in the upper echelon of quality compared to the rest of the Finance Department. Youll learn important theory about about rudimentary concepts, and its very insightful LT!
Overall a great professor who really cares for his students and wants them to succeed.
Professor Knabb is a nice guy and will spend plenty of time over a subject to make sure people have the chance to understand it.
Very easy class. Homework assignments due at last day of class. Attendance not mandatory. His tests were online and pretty easy.
He is a great professor and gives information that is going on with current events. The class consisted of two exams and a paper. attendance is not mandatory but I recommend going. He gives you study material for both the midterm and final. The paper was about 3 to 5 pages long. The book he provides is a Pearson book which is a plus in my opinion.
Shawn is a fantastic professor. I hated micro but ended up loving this class. He kept lectures relevant, teaching us about the current financial crisis. Attendance is not mandatory but I imagine passing would be tough without going to class. He posts all of the powerpoints online, and the class is graded on your best 2 test scores out of 3.
I have a unique perspective because I have already taken (& aced) ECON 206 and 207. He goes further in-depth than he needs to for 101 (concept-wise, not math-wise), but super interesting stuff. Honestly, he did a better job teaching me macro than my macro professor did. 2 online/open-note exams (30% each) and SB Homework (40%).
Only two tests the whole time and no final. Both tests were super easy if you took notes however the wording on a few questions didn't make sense. Homework is worth 40% and participation-based. Lectures were super boring however I don't know how exciting ECON 101 can be. He was super nice and always stayed after class for questions.
ECON 101 with Knabb overall as an experience was OK, but I feel like I learned a lot from this class. Lectures can be boring, and I'd say he can sometimes get sidetracked talking more than he needs to. But Overall he provided valuable information and taught it well. The online homework however is a CHORE so be ready for that.
Very good professor, I struggled a lot with math and he did a very good job teaching me. Wants everyone to succeed and be a great help to individuals if you go to office hours, lectures kinda dragged on after the first hour. Class if based on 3 exams, he drops the lowest score, so if you do not excel in exams this might not be a good fit.
Shawn is a super nice guy but many found his lectures incredibly boring. It seemed like his lectures could've been finished in an hour but he spent two on them just to fill the time. With that being said, I was able to learn the material. Your grade is the average of your 2 best tests out of 3 (50% test 1, 50% test 2, 0% test 3; multiple choice).
I found it a little hard to stay engaged with Professor Knabb's lectures but the class was pretty easy overall. You have online assignments due at the end of the quarter, and the tests are open note. He's accessible if you have questions.
really enjoyed this class with professor knabb probably the best prof in the department. This class was confusing as hell, but he really helped guide us through it which was dope definitely need to show up to class though. Had four assignments that you could hand in as many times as you want and a final exam and final project.
Graded by 3 exams and one is dropped at the end. Don't waste your time buying the textbook. I never bought it and got by just fine without it. Everything is already in the slides he goes over in class. He also allows a cheat sheet for exams.
Overall great professor and was extremely interested in student success and one of the few professors who work well with freshman.
Good class. The lectures are quite long and stretched out and it's sometimes hard to follow along, but when you do the homework, having knowledge from the lectures helps to get a better understanding of the content. Overall a good experience and learned a lot in this class!
His lectures are engaging, all homework is online and due at the end of the quarter, and tests are online with no time limit. Genuinely funny guy, too, although I'm not sure he's aware of it lmao.
Although the lectures did seem to drag on at times, I loved the way Knabb taught this course. Between the lectures and the homework, you're given all the information necessary to succeed. He always followed up on any emails too, and is just a genuinely great guy. Kind of reminded me of Leonard from Big Bang Theory, so that made me like him extra.
Very honest and straightforward about class expectations, laid back, works hard to help every student stay on track. Helpful in office hours, and is willing to slow down the pace if students struggle with certain sections. Also posts extra material for those who are interested in learning more.
Professor Knabb's ECON 101 class was pretty straightforward. The lectures can be dry, but he's happy to clarify concepts. The exams are open-note and the homework, while a chore, is doable. I found Unstuck study super helpful for study prep.
Easy class, cares about student success. His grading criteria can be slightly confusing, but its in your favor so honestly doesnt matter too much. Would recommend especially if ECON is a pre-req or fundamental course for you
