Dr Mac is a good teacher that allows for some extra credit, helps you if you ask for it and basically gives you everything you need to know for the exams in the powerpoint notes. Class attendence is a must if you want to succeed in his class. A lot of times he'll give you answers, hints, or give certain questions he'll ask. Highly recommend!
Dr. Mac is the best! He will go out of his way to help you. Anatomy and Physiology is a lot of work, but I have never learned so much in one course!
He is AWESOME!!! Great teacher!! Very helpful!! Highly recommended!!
Awesome! Very nice/helpful!
Dr. Mac is an approachable teacher as long as you have studied and have attended all classes. You don't want to miss any labs or classes useful information there along with extra points if 100% attendance. He is very though in teaching and has powerpoints laid out for entire class as long as you do exactly what he says for direction you can pass th
I took Dr. Mac's class my last semester before transfering to my current university. I learned a tremendous amount, but I didn't completely appreciate his style until I got to my upper division courses. Now do I ever appreciate all that he taught and did in both the lecture and labs! I am a better student now because I had Dr. Mac!
Very nice and helpful. You can tell that he truly wants his students to succeed. I would defiantly recommend him.
He was a great professor! Alwyas responded and did his best to help answer any questions that were brought up. Content was not alwyas as clear as hoped but i learned a lot.
He is a great professor and really cares about the students' success and comprehension. Very approachable, knowledgeable and kind. The only thing he wasn't clear on was the research paper. He gave us a one page rubric with very little explanation and didn't expand on it in class. But otherwise, a great teacher that I would recommend.
He was a great prof. and really made the class fun and interesting. He was very helpful and nice and never made his students feel dumb for asking questions. he offered online recordings along with downloadable power points that made studying much easier, however his test are difficult and detailed but not bad if you study definitely recommend him
Although he is very knowledgeable on the subject his tests and expectations are very unrealistic. If you do not work and are able to dedicate 110% of your time to this class you will never pass. Between the weekly 70+ question quiz's only worth 10 points you have to study for quiz's he knows no one will pass and always has a grading curve over 10%
Dr.Mac is very nice and he wants his students to be successful. That being said, his tests are difficult and online quizzes are never ending! He gave many EC opportunities, but he wouldn't have to if he could simplify and condense his expectations a little better. Overall he is pretty good but he has his moments just like everyone else.
Be prepared to take many, many quizzes and exams. Those keep you on your toes though. Attendance for lab is mandatory, lecture is (I guess you could say) optional. I didn't use the textbook at all..everything was in the lecture and lab supplements. Overall I found the class difficult and I didn't do as well as I would hope..just study A LOT!
Best professor I have ever had. Class is intense and takes a lot of work but Dr. Mac wants his students to succeed and will help those who try. He is kind and a very nice man.
Great professor. Wants the best for his students. Makes the Bio lab a lot of fun and worth the three hours.
This class made me feel like a failure and like I wasn't good or smart enough..especially when Dr. Mac said, "If you got this question wrong on the exam I will make sure you do not become a nurse." Way to be encouraging! I wish this was the only class I took this semester, it demands 110% of your attention and time.
Dr. Mac is loved by some and hated by some. However, I am one of the people who love him. He was very personable and easy to approach with questions. He's very strict though. He has very high expectations, and a lot of studying is required. I do mean A LOT. He's a really friendly guy though, and he truly cares about his students.
This class was hard and I mean HARD!! Dr. Mac is nice but does expect a lot out of his students. I studied more for this class than all my other classes combined and still received a D. Proceed with caution my friends and be ready for lots of all nighters!
The class is hard because of all the information you are given. Dr. Mac is a great teacher who is willing to help when ever he can. There are not extra credit options so study and work hard. I am glad I took only this class. I took it in the summer and it shorter than the others, so less time to learn the info and no review weeks.
Class was very hard, But he is very detailed.
Great teacher! Hard at times but if you go to the lectures you will do well. I did the hybrid and it was the biggest mistake. Go to the lectures.
I found this class to be very intense. Definitely one that needs to be taken by itself. There are a lot of tests in this class. I found that with the constant studying for 1 test after another that I retained very little from this class. I was frustrated with the tests b/c there was so much on them that we had not gone over in class.
Dr.Mac is awesome! I wish I could take all my classes from him. I love how he trys to relate things to everyday life. The class is hard and there are tons of things to learn but I learned a lot, thanks to Dr.Mac!
He's probably my favorite professor
Tough class but if anatomy & physiology is what you're going into it's great! Very in depth and thorough. Not much work is required besides being accountable for your own study habits. Listening and paying attention is key. Gives lots of extra credit ops. Tough class unless you stick with it, and great professor.
Super clear at explaining. Lots of extra credit. Your grade is solely based off your study habits.
Excellent instructor. Explains in detail what you need to know. No trick questions. Helps in any way he can.
Dr. Mac is great. Not only should you attend lecture but if you listen to all the lectures again online you'll do great. Notes are printed for you but he gives you time to take your own. Make sure you read all directions there is ample opportunity for extra credit.
Highly disappointed in MCC for allowing a course to be set up the way it is in 105, which by the way is set up by this guy, who also takes off it you spell things wrong, assigns a ridiculous amount of work that overtakes your whole life and has you study for things that aren't even tested for. Set up for failure? without a doubt. What a waste
Best professor I have ever had. He expects a lot from his students and you get the grade you earn, which I respect very much. These aren't easy classes and take a lot of work, but Dr. Mac is very kind and helpful, as well as available for help if you give the effort. Lots of learning styles are considered. GREAT professor!
Dr. Macauley is a great professor. He answers your questions. Lecture can be online or in class- you have a choice. Do the homework and listen to lectures and you will get through this class.
BEST TEACHER EVER!! HE LOVES TEACHING! had him for 105 lab and lecture. Will answer any questions, hes fun. Very through. awesome, awesome, awesome. I also took his lectures for biology 106. had a different teacher for lab
Hardest class I have taken at MCC. Dr. Mac is late every class, but he expects you to be on-time and attend all lectures. He missed an entire week of class and expected us to learn the material on our own. When learning the bones and muscles he would "leave you to it", and go to his office. Not a helpful teacher.
Professor Macauley seemed very understanding and blunt, which is great. I don't think I can say that he is a bad professor based on the course content or grades received which I feel students tend to do. This class is hard in the fact it has a lot of material but you learn so much! Just stick on through. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Lectures feel like a read along and I mean that in a good way, you are given all of the power points he uses ahead of time, the lectures are available for review on YouTube, and he has no problem going over things you may not have understood, both in the class room and office hours. Very straight forward and fair professor.
I had Dr. Mac for both Bio105 and Bio106. He is definitely my favorite professor so far. He has a great sense of humor and answers student questions thoroughly. If you're willing to put in the work he will be sure that you pass.
Dr Mac is amazing. He is so interesting and fun to listen to. His tests are extremely difficult and long, but if you go to the lectures and study, you can do well. He makes you work for it. I loved him and wish I needed more classes I could take from him.
I loved this class! If you are going into the medical field definitely take Macauley. You will learn so much. He knows a lot about the material. Very approachable and wants all of his students to succeed.
He is a professor who makes sure that the students know what he is talking about and throughly explains whatever you need him to.
Great professor! He loves the content and he does have a passion for teaching students. He will help you out if your are self directed. Those who expect everything handed to them will not get the best out of him. Loved his method of teaching and his energy in the class! Don't waste your time sitting in lecture though, take it online.
One of the best professors at MCC. This class is a lot harder than BIO 105. You will learn a lot. You will be responsible to make connections from 105 to understand the big picture. There is a lot more material, and it is very important you understand what is going on the very first day to succeed for the rest of the semester.
Super prof covering amazing content. Passionate! A definite take if going premed!
this class was very challenging and you will not get an A without working for it!! But you learn so much information and this prof is very smart!!
Amazing professor! Loved going to class and learning. He is passionate about what he is teaching.
Dr. Mac really cares about his students success, he is a great professor and I loved attending his lectures. There is a lot of homework but it's easy, all you have to do is put in some time. He doesn't put anything on the tests that he hasn't said in any lectures. He's also quick at grading. I definitely recommend taking Dr. Mac for this class!
Dr. Mac is a great professor. I took him for both BIOL 105 & 106 because I appreciated his organized and informative lectures. His tests are long and cover a lot, but that is good if you want to know and understand the anatomy and physiology of the human body. I recommend taking this professor if you want to learn. Great overall professor!
He is a really nice guy, but he expects you to know the material before he teaches it and treats you as if you do. It was hard to keep up because lab was very unorganized. We would skip around so much you really had to pay attention. He does offer extra credit which is nice, but I wouldn't suggest him to any student.
Tough class but if you attend the lectures and study you will be fine. He is always willing to answer questions and help you understand the material. You HAVE to work for the grade but he has a good lecture style. Only complaint is the labs and lectures did not correlate.
Hardest class I have evert taken and Im not even going into the medical field. I had to take this class for a requirement for my major sadly. Nice guy but the exams are way too hard and he expects you to be a doctor.
Little to no help. Pretty much have to figure everything out on your own.
Dr. Mac is a very knowledgable professor and does his best to explain things. I wish someone would have told me how much harder BIO 106 is than BIO 105. I have made it through but with multiple hours of studying each day. You will learn a lot but it will definitely take effort. It is doable though!
Bio105 isn't necessarily hard but it requires you to put in a lot of the work outside of class. He gives out a lot of assignments, plus you still have to make time to study for the exams. Thankfully, he gives you some easy points to help raise our grades. And supplemental instruction and tutoring is offered. Take advantage of these two!
Dr. Mac really knows his stuff. Listen to the Youtube lectures he posts, most of the questions on the tests come straight from what he says in lecture. I used the book only for the Mastering online. It seems like a lot, but it was really helpful. I wanted to take him again for 106!
Dr. Mac is a solid prof. Definitely makes you work for your grade, but teaches in a very understandable way. All the homework is online and also helps you tremendously when studying for tests, as the homework corresponds with test questions. Don't worry abut skipping a lecture here and there, all his lectures are on YouTube so you can watch again!
Dr. Mac is great prof. Definitely a lot of homework, but it helps tremendously on his tests. BIO106 is definitely a lot harder than 105, but he keeps you entertained in lectures and has a passion for teaching that makes you understand the material easier. He gives you a significant amount of EC to boost your grade and curves tests which help A LOT.
Doctor Mac is so awesome. I took this class for fun and had a great time! He makes class enjoyable. It's a tough class but you really learn a lot. Be ready for lectures and lots of reading.
Dr. Mac is a great prof. He really knows his stuff. Make sure you study the lecture supplements and mastering quizzes! He gets the majority of his questions from there. Also, he posts all of his lectures online so you can go back and review. He isn't the best with email communication, so email a couple times for a response. Study hard!
Macauley is the best professor I've had. He is extremely kind and he genuinely cares for his students. He was always reassuring us that we would do great on exams and that we knew the material. There are a lot of mastering assignments, but they do help you in the long wrong. Make sure you study for lecture/lab exams. I highly recommend him!
Dr. Mac was a great teacher. He is very nice and understanding. Also, very knowledgeable. Attendance for lecture was not necessary but for lab it was required. A lot of material was taught. I would recommend taking this with a light schedule or alone. Also, make sure to get Dr. Mac as the lab instructor, as the others weren't as good as him!
What a nice guy! This was my first class in years. I am an adult student. He was very approachable, as well as knowledgeable. I enjoyed this class a lot and would recommend him as a teacher to anyone.
An amazing class. Just finished the course, the second half was online because of the COVID quarantine. Dr. Mac kept us focused on the important materials by offering multiple online meetings. He is very passionate about the material and provided lots of required practice assignments. It's a lot of work, but the hard work pays off.
Anatomy and physiology is a hard class in general, there is just plainly a ton of information to cover no matter who teaches it. Macauley is very blunt about what you need to know, no surprises on tests. He is very helpful and will try to help you remember things and is VERY approachable when you need help.
Dr. Mac's class was the hardest class I've taken. You watch Youtube lec videos and are expected to do so before coming to lecture, and then he quickly goes over it in lecture. It was pretty pointless so nobody went to lec. He is condescending and can be rude. He may have high reviews, but when 1/4 of the original 120 drops, it means something.
My favorite teacher hands down. Hard class but can pass with hard work.
I took his BIOL 105 class in my first semester as a homeschool student with no experience in college life. Loved his presentation style. He gave many chances to review the material through homework, deadlines, and exams. While this course was hard, I felt like I had everything I needed to do it and the class gave me a good foundation. It's doable.
Worst class ever!
Dr. Mac knows his stuff, no doubt about it. There are MANY assignments each week. Study modules, chapter homework, lab homework, and a portion of the pre-lab on mastering. PLUS a pre-lab from the manual. Before every exam there is a 100 question quiz in the same week. Plus a 1.5-2 hr asynchronous lecture, 2 1.5 hr discussions, 3 hr lab, 1 hr SI.
At first I didn't like this class because it was too much work. He gives you a lot of work but it shows on the exams and quizzes. Overall, if you pay attention during lectures and labs, this class shouldn't be too hard to get an A.
Dr. Mac is awesome considering that the class was so much material to be covered. I really liked how he prepared you for the tests/exams (you knew exactly what the short answer questions were for the most part). The only downfall was that he does not typically answer emails on the weekends so if you had technical difficulties you were screwed.
The class is a lot of work, but he has the class structured very well. I felt prepared for every exam and a lot of studying was done during the class work. Probably my favorite professor.
Absolutely fantastic at covering such a wide range of material. Genuinely cares about teaching his students.
Macauley has been one of my favorite professors at this school! He genuinely cared and was very willing to answer questions, so don't hesitate to ask. Lab was obviously fun because it is lots of dissections. Lecture was FULL of busy work. Just show up for lectures and take notes and then study your notes and powerpoint slides and you'll be solid.
Dr Mac is an amazing professor He is very approachable and knows his stuff He'd always explain everything in a way that was understandable He was always supportive and gave the info that was required to pass the class Never felt like I was teaching myself because of his teaching style Highly recommend for this class if you cant make it to campus
I wish more teachers at MCC were like him, he is a great teacher and actually cares about his students. His anatomy class is challenging but offers so many learning options. Make sure to do all the PreLabs, every point counts! Lectures are not mandatory but the labs are! He even records his lectures and puts them online for you to rewatch.
Dr. Mac is an AMAZING PROFESSOR and truly cares about his students. He has the class structured very well. Love his presentation style. The lecture videos and pre-lab videos are very helpful. It's a hard class but it's doable.
Get ready for homework. I would say that during the course of this class I averaged about 40 -50 hours of studying per week. The amount of time spent on homework along with attending lecture and lab is pretty intense and will require a lot of work. That being said, Dr. Mac was by far the best professor i've ever had. Exceptionally helpful.
Absolutely LOVED going to his lectures. Obviously anything anatomy related is not easy in any way but I still looked forward to his class. He was such an involved prof who genuinely cared about his students. I would retake any class with him. His class is one of the first where I actually learned something, not just memorized to pass the class.
Dr. Mac was one of the best professors I've ever had; he is very caring but takes no crap.
Really loved his teaching style!! He is very quick to respond to emails and loves when you ask questions, very willing to help you better understand the material.
Dr. Mac is great! His class requires some effort, but he is very detailed and provides you with lots of resources. Developing a good study routine is really important. Your labs also force you to be current on the material each week, but as long as you prioritize your time, you can get a good grade!
I loved this professor, the class material was difficult, but he would explain anything we didn't understand until we understood, and did really well finding ways to make us remember things
This class was very difficult for me because a lot of the material you are expected to know or teach yourself before coming in for lab or lecture. You really need to be curious. I felt like the class clicked for me at the end when I was able to connect everything. Push hard in the first half of the class, as that material felt most difficult
Dr Mac is the best, this is a difficult class but he tries his hardest to get everyone to pass. Don't take this class if you aren't ready to do the work to pass it! He has spent years fine tuning the material to be seen 7 times before the exam, we started with 150 people but only 70 would even open the review section on blackboard before an exam.
This might hand down might be the best professor I have ever had. You just need to be ready to work for your grade. The first exam and lab exam can be intimidating but stick with it!!! you will find your flow. His teaching style worked so well for me. I enjoyed the lecture videos and prelab videos. I recommend buying note cards and STUDY hard.
This is a very high quality, and refined class. Dr. Macs lectures are great, he works hard, and wants everyone to succeed. The material isn't necessarily complicated, but a lot of work is needed to tackle the volume of the course. If you allow yourself to dive in, you will enjoy the class.
This professor is amazing and incredibly understanding. The only complaint I have is that if you miss one lab, you have to drop the class, which is kind of harsh but also understandable. He's an excellent professor—the class is just extremely difficult.
I spent 40-50 hours a week on the material. I listened to every lecture and lab video, and took notes as I listened. Every one of those videos took me 4-8 hours to get through with the note taking. This meant I went into lecture and already knew the material. Beware of due dates in mastering that sneak up on you. Expect pre labs to take hours.
