Teaches OK, tests hard. Wants to "challenge you" on tests. Calc II started with about 20-25 people, ended with about 10 people. Most people dropped after first and second test. No-one got a great grade. I felt lucky to pass and I like Math.
Not a teacher I will take again. EVER. I barely passed. Gave no opportunity to improve your grade. I tried talking to him a couple times, but he wasn't really all that helpful.
I thought he was great. He clearly likes the subject and was always willing to help me.
Great Teacher. He always keeps class really interesting and is really funny =D
He was interesting. Doesn't give many opportunities to improve your grade (extra credit), but did give a retake test when the class did horrible. Used an online program with about three problems a week. He likes to talk about Survivor. I don't know how he'll make it next quarter without Survivor. Attend class and you'll understand the content.
BEST MATH CLASS i've ever taken in my life!! He really does a good job explaining and describing the subject. He shows how he loves the subject...so he keeps you interested. he shows different ways to do a problem and demonstrates the easier way. class is never boring. i'd definitely take him again.
I loved this class!
I like his teaching style. It is clear he wants the students to learn and enjoy mathematics.
He was fantastic. Very funny and kept class interesting. He was always willing to help and I would def. take any of his classes.
Fantastic professor! I was so happy I took his class. I'd taken 152 with another prof and failed so I was aprehensive to take it again but Shawn is so helpful I nice, and very passionate about math that he revived my love of math. But if you don't put in the work, he will call you out on it. He puts a strong emphasis on tests in his class.
Awesome, great teacher. Just can't say enough good things about him. He is extremely helpful and patient. Lots of one on one time and great at explaining the subject. I won't take another math class here unless it's with him.
His self described "shoot from the hip" method of teaching calc didn't work for me or for most people in the class. I am a 3.80 student and I passed his class by the skin of my teeth. I have also observed that his relationship with his female students is about half a step away from inappropriate.
Most entertaining math professor I've ever had! Made class fun and kept my interest. Had about five quizzes, three tests, and a final. Gave extra credit opportunities when a good amount of the class didn't do well on the exams. Does A LOT of examples on the board (that aren't in the book). Hoping to have future math courses taught by him!
one of the best math teachers i've ever had! entertaining&very helpful. explanations are to the point.
Triplett is a very energetic teacher. I had him for Math 99. He explains problems cleary and gives you helpful study guides for each test. The homework was not mandatory, we took quizes, and we were well informed of what would be on the test. I recommend.
BEST TEACHER EVER! He knows his math, and loves it! I learned sooooOOO much in this class! And I actually enjoyed coming to class. Somebody said his behavior towards the females in the class was near inappropriate...thats only because he's hott and all the ladys want him! ;) He's not inappropriate at ALL. Very helpful teacher!
Shawn was the best Math teacher I have ever had. Hands down. He is so helpful, and very understanding! He lets people asks questions on the FINAL! I will definitely be taking more classes from him.
Shawn is the best Math Teacher one could hope for. At first I was dreading the fact of having to take a math class but after the first few courses I began to look forward to his lectures. You can tell he enjoys his life and it shows in his work. Shawn is the Rock Star of math teachers! Take his class, you will not regret it!
Had a hard time in this class. The teacher would present things well in class but his exams were always very tricky. He says attendence is not manditory but if you don't attend you won't get his notes and then you won't know what to do in the exams, as he bases pretty much everything on the exams from his notes and almost nothing from the book.
Dont take summer quarter unless you are a genious! He goes very fast and skips portions of explaining to make notes look "attractive". Im sure hed be great if this was a ten week course.
He is a GREAT teacher and I would take his class again in an instant. If you are mature, work hard, and study you'll get a good grade. If you are a complainer and make excuses then he won't have a lot of tolerance. Also, he's one of those profs it would be fun to have a beer with.
Triplett is great teacher he takes the time to make sure you understand the sections. and goes a good pace.
He explains things in a way that is very easy to understand. His tests aren't difficult and the assignments he gives are easy points. He is also very easy on the eyes. I definitely recommend.
He is fun, explains concepts well and takes time to remind us of previous lessons. Quizzes and exams are pretty relevant to the homework and his lectures. No extra credits, unfortunately.
I'm one of the few who suffered in his class. His methods just didn't work with me. Mainly because he's the frat bro type that students would love to go drinking with, which showed through his very informal teaching style. Either way, chances are you'll have no problem with him-unless you were the nerdy weirdo who never went to parties back in HS.
Awesome teacher, explains things really well, uses a lot of examples. If you need help he is good about helping and being available. You will need to work in his classes, but we had take home tests and some extra credit which could help your grade.
He's really nice and funny. Sometimes he can be very distracting by telling jokes in the middle of class section which I find it a good thing. I have no pressure coming to his class. His lecture sections can be confusing but overall I'd recommend taking him.
I enjoyed coming to class, he lectures very enthusiastically, never boring. Pay attention to studying for the exams and final, they make up a BIG part of your grade. 550 total weighted grade, each exam(there are 3) is 100 pts, final is 150, and hw/in-class assignments are the other 100. So if you dont do well on the exams you will not pass. no EC
I was a bit worried going into Calculus, but he does a great job of explaining things in easy to understand terms. Quizes are 'based' on the homework, so anything less than 100% is your own fault. Covers the hard stuff in class, then tones it down for tests. Would take for Calc 2, but unavailable :(
He is my favorite math teacher I have ever had. Ever. He is passionate and lively in teaching and it makes you engage in the lesson. He is very helpful. Even if you are in someone else's class, he will help you. After taking him I don't want to take another math class without him. He got me excited to take Calculus 2, much harder than Calculus 1.
I think Mr. Triplett was an amazing teacher. I have taken this math class three time and he is hands down, the best math teacher I've ever had. No he doesn't take attendance, but if you were to miss a day...you miss very important details. I very much enjoyed having him this quarter.
Hands down best math teacher I've ever had. It's true, you don't need a textbook. He makes math so understanable, so fun, and even though attendance isn't mandatory, your going to want to go.
This guy is AMAZING! I actually enjoyed attending his class, even though I am horrible at math. He explains things very clearly, and he's so good at explaining the reasons why things don't work. He's also a lot of fun, I found him pretty hilarious and entertaining as well as incredibly smart. I've already recommended him to everyone I know!
Took Math 250 with Triplett. He's an awesome teacher and he's extremely helpful. If you attend class everyday, you'll learn a ton of math!
This is the best mathematics professor I've had. He's very clear with what he's trying to teach you, he tells you what will be on exams, gives you practice tests, gives great lectures, he's very funny and if you have a question he will get back to you ASAP. If you can, take a class from him!!
Triplett was an amazing professor - he is very clear in class, and is always open to helping students when needed. His exams are no harder than the problems we do in class - so as long as you go to class, you'll know what is happening. We didn't do any textbook work in class, and homework isn't required. He is the best Math professor I've had.
The best math teacher ever. Very helpful. He's gets straight to the point and enjoys his job.
Relaxed, friendly classroom attitude, but that's about the best quality.Helps a little when asked but when he's done he's done whether you got what you needed or not. I spent easily 20 hours a week on this class and scored worse than any other course I've taken. This is not a prof that is terribly concerned with your needs although it may appear so
This is my second time taking Shawn, and I hope to take him again. With that said, he is a little slow on getting exams back. Took his class over the summer, allowed a student with a disruptive child into class twice...didn't feel that I got what I paid for as he was sick 2 days (in 6 weeks). Professionalism was lacking. Good at teaching though.
He got distracted pretty easily, only because he was very social. Otherwise a very smart and intelligent teacher. Could do math off the top of his head and was very good at teaching step by step. Went through any questions students had. Very good teacher. Take him if you ever have the opportunity.
Mr. Triplett was an awesome teacher. He was always available to help when you needed it. I had taken this math 6 times in my past and just couldn't pass it. He gave extra credit he would put towards the test and had practice exams that were exactly what was on the real exams. His notes helped a lot. I definitely recommend him. Great teacher
Shawn was hilarious & made me want to go to class. He is easy to get along with and very helpful! I would defiantly recommend this class for anybody taking Math 99. Homework is not mandatory but the quizzes are on the homework questions. So right answers on the homework=100% on quiz! (Answers are in the back of the book too!)
Instructor is personable and friendly. He has a "shoot from the hip" style and runs over topics quickly. He is helpful but only to a point. Then too bad and he moves on. I found this style to be not conducive to understanding and learning. I don't recommend him.
Understands that a happy student is an interested student and is therefore very sociable and lively. He teaches to, rather than at the class keeping everyone involved. When he asks questions, he doesn't look for raised hands... He looks for confused facial expressions. Makes math very fun and interesting and I HATE math!!
Overall, I was just really impressed with the way the material was taught. As long as you commit to the class, you should do well. He took each concept, broke it down, then tied everything together again very well. This really helped to put the material into practical application. I now feel very confident about moving on to Calculus 2.
Took several classes with this professor and would recommend strongly. He goes over things in class, homework, study guides, etc, if asked and has no problem answering questions for students. Fairly easy to get along with as far as personality and is quick to answer emails. You will need the book, and the homework is for practice rarely graded.
Great teacher! Teaches subject well and understands material. Definitely my all time favorite math teacher, he just needs to teach physics now! You need to go to lecture to understand material. Tests are relatively hard but reasonable. If you put in effort you'll do well.
He's awesome!!!!!!!!! Funny and an easy grader!
Dr. Triplett is easy to relate to and an excellent lecturer. He approaches concepts with the simplest possible building blocks and reviews gaps in student understanding with patience. I found class time more valuable than expected. He also gives clear and helpful feedback when grading.
Professor Triplett is easily my favorite teacher at OC. He gives fun and interesting lectures, and tries to make them as easy to comprehend as possible. He is always to make sure students know what they're doing, and is sure to give help if they don't understand. He is a comedian, prepare for endless Survivor jokes and references.
Triplett is awesome! Easily one of the best profs I've had at OC. He is really great about making sure everyone understands before moving on. He is really nice about make up tests and quizzes as long as you contact him in advance. His lectures are lighthearted and full of jokes. Easy class as long as you put in effort. Would definitely take again!
Amazing amazing amazing! so glad i took this class with him. He is a great teacher.
He's a wonderful guy. Genuinely likable, and respectable; however, the class didn't really catch my interest because trigonometry isn't my strong suit. The fact that homework wasn't graded or really assigned, was not beneficial at all.
Amazing professor. I have taken him for trig and now Calc 2. Calc 2 is a tough class but he makes it easy to learn and leaves no questions. Super helpful and all around awesome guy. Also made math awesome. I've taken him twice now and would take again if he teachers calc 3 or 4!
He's great for math99! He was super clear and precise, making sure everyone understood it. Also you only gives 4 test over all which is great(including the final) but he will give a quiz after each chapter but they're easy and only have 2 or 3 problems! Over all a great teacher expecially if math is not your strongest subject
I am very thankful to be taught by him, funniest guy ever. He makes things clear. easy grader. Really helpful.
If you have him, I'm jealous. Funny. Always eating. Nice. Caring. Good at teaching. Probably really attractive if you're a middle aged woman, but idk. He's probably my favorite math teacher, even though Heinze is really cool
Great teacher. Take his classes if you have the chance.
Mr. Triplett is an awesome teacher! His lecture is super fun and easy to understand. Attending class regularly is a must if you don't want to fall behind on the content. His exams are difficult but doable. Reviews for quizzes and exams are provided if you do them. You should be able to pass his class if you keep up with the lectures.
Everyone in my current quarter likes Triplett. He's clear on topics and likes to teach us shortcuts (he usually finds ways to get around how the textbook does things). He also loves The Walking Dead. Sometimes he just says 'caaaarrrl' in the middle of a lecture. Quizzes are easy if you do your homework. It's a really good trig course, imho.
Easy-going guy, very fun in class.
Triplett is a fairly nice and very funny/light hearted guy that means well but it is tough when he eschews the most basic duties of an instructor. He does not grade or collect homework. He also made it clear he doesn't check his voice mail ever(!) and often physically leaves the classroom during class. Uses the whiteboard, but writing is hard to se
Funny, but that does not make a good teacher. He is hardly available during office hours. Quizzes and tests are fairly short; if you miss 1-2 questions it drops a letter grade, but partial credit given. Does not give many homework assignments, BUT do book problems for practice. You can use your book 'homework' on quizzes. He is so-so.
Funny and engaging. Teaching style is straight forward - he teaches you how he interprets problems and simplifies it if you don't understand. Also shortens what the text says / makes it easier to understand and gives shortcuts. Don't skip class and you'll pass easily. Gives quizzes on homework assigned, HOWEVER doesn't take or receive the hw.
Mr. Triplett is a fantastic teacher for a tough subject. His lectures are semi-engaging, but are very informative. He is very friendly as well caring enough to remember your name. The subject matter may be extremely difficult at times but without him, the course would be close to impossible to bear. He's very easy to talk to and be friends with.
Mr. Triplett is one of the funniest and most caring teachers I've ever had. He's great at explaining the material and when the course gets difficult, he makes sure to break it up with some comedy. He is always available for help and really cares about his students. He answers any questions and doesn't judge if you need help. TAKE TRIPLETT.
Triplett is amazing. I am going to try to get him for Math 141 next quarter because he is the best math teacher I have ever had. He explains everything clearly, and breaks down difficult subjects into simple steps so you fully comprehend the idea. He doesn't hesitate to break up his lectures with walking dead references, and is very friendly.
Wonderful teacher! I would definitely take another class from him again.
I struggle with math, but Triplett breaks down problems in ways that are much easier to understand. He is by far my favorite teacher I've had at OC. He's enthusiastic about the subject and keeps the class lively.
I love him! lots of students recommend him. he does't have greaded home work at all. if you show up class and listen the lecture, you can pass exam well. textbook is requierd but i dont use druing the class. I want to take him class again!
Great professor! Always helpful.
Makes math so fun. Gives chance for extra credit, doesn't have unreasonable rules. Very clear about grading, and what is gonna be on the exams. Best math professor/teacher I have ever had, and I used to hate math and suck at math. Not an easy A but it didn't feel hard because I was enjoying the math the whole time.
Triplett is one of many great math professors at OC. He's a good teacher, fair grader, eager to help, and all around funny guy. Took calc 2 with him, which is supposed to be one of the hardest calc courses, but was mostly just fun with him. he really loves teaching and helping students learn. He can be a little weird at times but you get used to it
Great Math Techer. Always available for help. Does a good job at explaining things.
Mr. Triplett was an alright teacher. Im sure his teaching style would be good for some people but it didnt work well for me. I feel like he rushed through lessons and skipped over concepts that he tested us on. I liked his personality but the course was tough and so is his grading. Just be prepared to work
I found his lectures confusing and all over the place and couldnt follow his examples on the white board. Expects you to know things that he taught 5 minutes before class gets out and tests you on confusing material. Ive tried really hard and I am still doing bad.
Homework was optional, and not graded. most of the grade comes from tests, and the rest comes from quizzes. he was great at explaining things, so if you pay attention, take notes, and do the hw, you'll do well in the class. if you put in the effort, there's no reason why you wouldn't pass. he's also a very funny guy and i enjoyed the class
He was a pretty good teacher, he did seem to go fast through lectures so if youre lost or confused be sure to ask him for help. Hes a reasonable grader and funny guy. I would definitely take a class taught by him again. However be ready to work, the coursework is no joke.
he tends to sidetrack with amusing stories, but they make the class interesting. He knows his math.
Do yourself a favor and take his class. He makes math so fun, and I give him full credit for making me enjoy studying. He will treat you like a normal human regardless of how much effort you put in, so if you sit in the back on your phone, he wont usually call you out, you just wont get a good grade cause you weren't learning and that's your loss
Triplet is one of the best math teachers I ever had. Although I didn't pass, I'm re taking the class with him because he's very helpful. Attendance not mandatory but you should go anyways. He's very funny and extremely smart, explains things in ways that make sense
Triplett is okay! He wasn't my first choice. He doesn't do partial credit a lot. He does NOT do extra credit. He loves PROOFS. I would recommend doing the homework and making sure you understand the words he uses in the lecture. I loved going to class just because he is super hilarious!!!!
Professor Triplett is a good professor. I took him during fall quarter. Math for me is very hard and I never got things right off the back however, if you care bout your grade he will help you! He always made time to show students how to complete a topic and he did it in fun ways. It's not an easy class but I definitely learned a lot!
Mr. Triplett is an amazing professor. He makes the class a positive experience, and even though it can get difficult, he tries to give enough examples that everyone understands. Sometimes he moves pretty quickly in lectures so ask questions. He makes jokes and makes class fun, doesn't often use the book and when he does he explains it well.
The test is extremely hard. Like when you studied a lot but the tests are 10 times harder than what you studied. Good luck for people wants to take a REAL challenge.
Prof Triplett is a great professor that makes math fun to learn. He loves to explain how various formulas are derived (he does a lot of proofs on the board) which I find extremely helpful. He avoids the textbook and makes up the problems on the fly, but they are very beneficial. He answers questions directly. Beware of his many Expo markers!
Triplett is awesome. My favorite math teacher ever. He explains things well and really sets you up for success. I highly recommend him.
Shawn is more than willing to work with you. Quizzes are homework questions that you can use your homework solutions on. Exams have 1 tough problem, but the rest is fine if you keep up with the material. He has some amazing stories to tell and his lectures are very helpful. Definitely ask him any questions you may have and work with your classmates
He has become one of my favorite professors here. He is so smart, loves the subject & his job. I loved going to class and wish the lectures were longer. Easy to reach. It's kind of annoying that he Doesn't use canvas though. Assigns homework but it isn't graded, but it's so helpful if you do it.
Professor Triplett was hands down my favorite teacher at Olympic. He is very funny and a great lecturer. You don't "have" to go to class, but if you want to pass, I would highly suggest not missing class. He assigns homework but it isn't graded. Completed homework can be used for quizzes as notes. Good review for each test. Take him if you can.
Professor Triplett is the best math teacher I've ever had. He understands that not everyone is good at math or even likes it, so he tries harder to develop your relationship with math into a positive one. Yes theres a ton of homework but its math so thats a given. Triplett has given me the confidence to like math. And thats a real gift right there.
The guy definitely doesn't pull any punches. His exams are far more difficult than anything he went over in class, and he acts like we have it easy.
He was really funny and made things easy. He knew students did better when reviewing the past quarter's of math's material so he took time to review for us during lectures. He cosplayed as a Walking Dead character for halloween and when COVID struck he tried his best to keep class in order at home. HOMEWORK IS THE QUIZ KEY. He also flossed.
World's Best Professor Award: SHAWN TRIPLETT
Shawn triplet posts videos of his lessons on Wamap and not canvas and the website he uses is very confusing and isn't helpful at all, most students had trouble figuring it out and he said to just deal with it. He grades heavily and one missed question could cost you your A while putting items he hasn't covered in the assignments. Not a good online.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. He wants to see you learn the material and succeed. This man lives, eats and breaths math and wants to share his enthusiasm of the subject with you.
Shawn is a very good math teacher. He understands that math is hard to read and that the best way to understand things is by explaining it in lecture and doing examples. His HW assignments were usually straight forward. tests were centered around HW concepts. sometimes he throws in trick questions. Most students respond well to his teaching style.
He is patient, dedicated, and he is a good guy.
Professor Triplett is a really nice guy and is very easy to interact with. He only grades 3 things, midterm 100pts final 100pts and 100pts of homework so the pressure is on to perform well on all three of these. His lectures while useful, they are low quality and feel rushed. Message him if you're confused he gives great help with examples.
Professor Triplett was a fantastic professor. His lecture, although he wrote it on board and sometimes can be confusing, it still covers the crucial part of the lesson. Also, he is a hilarious guy. He often gave a lot of good jokes and his passion for the Walking dead after the business hour.
Great professor! He is always open to questions and his responses are actually helpful and timely. His lectures are a bit on the lower quality side, but they get the information across just fine. It's not an easy A class, you'll have to work for it. Focus on understanding the material as best you can, because he'll throw some curve balls on tests.
Prof Triplett is a really good guy, and he definitely cares about his students. He is really fair when it comes to grading, also he often will go past office hours time to help students or set up extra meet time to help. His tests are absolutely no joke though, and they are weighted heavily, make sure you study hard and reach out if you need help.
There are only 2 tests you take before the final and if you do badly on 1 test, you most likely won't get an A in the class. Most of the questions on the homework, he never taught along with some of the test questions. If you didn't attend class or watch the videos, you aren't going to pass. Test grades matter if you want to pass the class!!!
I couldn't learn from this instructor, retook the class the following quarter from another instructor and passed with almost 100%. Didn't like using WAMAP, hard to learn from.
The classes were difficult to understand using the program he uses. Also tests included so many things not gone over in lecture and the majority of the grade was off the tests. I studied off the study guide, lectures, and previous homework for every test and still did horrible
Disregard any bad review you read on here and take it from me. I had him for both Calc 2 and pre calc and he is absolutely the man. he actually cares and wants his students to succeed. If you reach out for extra help he will almost always accommodate and help you. I took college algebra through Calc 3 and Diff Eq and ST is by far the best math prof
He is GOATED like I promise!!!!!!! He is very caring, always makes time for students and easy and quick communicator. You don't have to buy any textbooks for math 141, he uses a free online version as well as a free online platform called WAMAP instead of paid subscription service like ALEKS. He stays after class to answer all students.
He is an amazing professor, I will definitely recommend. He amazing lectures and always extends due dates incase of anything. He has good tests and a clear grading system. He uses Wamap most of the time and it is so good.
Professor Triplett is engaging and genuinely cares about his students. His lectures are informative, and the homework, while not graded, is incredibly helpful. Attendance is mandatory, but worth it to understand the tricky material. Unstuck ai was a great supplemental study tool alongside the textbook.
Prof. Triplett is probably the best math teacher I've had to date. Attendance isn't required but the lectures help a lot. His course format was 2 tests and 1 cumulative final. Homework is online through WAMAP. I wouldn't say the class is hard but you have to have good time management and practice. If you flunk one test it can be hard to recover.
One of, if not my favorite professor I have had. He clearly loves the material he is teaching, and has very fun engaging lectures. Just enough homework to make sure you know what you are doing, with supplemental problems if you feel like you need more. Absolutely recommend taking his class if you get the chance.
The best math professor I've had at Olympic. He gives many examples that make the subject clear to understand as a student.
Taking Prof. Triplett's class was such a good idea. The pace is steady, and if you go to each class, you should have no problem keeping up a good grade. He loves making dad jokes and talking about The Walking Dead; he's very chill and genuinely cares about what he's teaching us.
This professor has been great! I'm about to finish his Math 99 class, and he teaches the topics very well and he's easy to talk within and out of class. Asking questions in class has helped me be able to understand some of the homework. He explains your questions very simply. The work load hasn't been very hard either. Awesome teacher!
Nightmare. “I had it worse in my day” prof picks the most niche, convoluted exam problems imaginable. Both midterm averages were failing, refused to curve until the dept head forced it—and even then it barely helped. No recourse since there are zero prof evaluations. Cringe: 70&more focused on looking cool than teaching to the level he tests.
Professor Triplett was wonderful! This was my first quarter at OC and I was pleasantly surprised by this class. He obviously cared about the students success and his recorded lectures taught me everything I needed to know. As long as you actually understood the concepts by studying a bit, it was a straightforward class.
