very fun teacher, made class enjoyable
Great as a person. No lecture, you're on your own. Group/take home tests. Some writing assignments. Expects involvement in outside activities.
She is a great gal, but a bit gabby, ( so out of the 3 hours of class you may have learned about 20 minutes of it) Then she'll wip out a test and you are supposed to ace it ---but she is nice so I can't dis her too much :)

She's the best. We talk about other real life situations more than reading the book. We learned more that way. We took group tests too. She taught me so much. She is the coolest teacher you'll ever have at Delta!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shawna relates class to real life. She is easier but at the same time makes you stretch outside your zone . Great person.
Shawna is great. You get a lot out of her class. And you take a lot of group tests, but they are some of the hardest tests I've ever had.

MANY STUDENTS ENJOY HER CLASS. NO LECTURES. EXPECTS OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES. TESTS ARE GROUP, HOWEVER DIFFICULT. NOT VERY INTERESTING TEACHER UNLESS YOU'RE INTERESTED IN HER LIFE!
I like her a lot...but her classes can become zoos with allowing the students to do what they want to do...have asked her for help and she has blown me off a number of times as well..tests are ethier take home or group, some tests are hard.

Internet class test are hard. Sometimes it takes awhile for her to answer her email. Don't take the internet course unless you have a week or two to complete each test. I suggest always taking her on campus class.
Very AWESOME teacher! She is very helpful and helps you out a lot! I would recomend taking her for all the classes that you can!
Shawna has taught me lots about not only her but myself as a person. She also has helped me through some rough times like having my son and adjusting to school life just 3 weeks after having him. Thanks again Shawna
Had Swhana for a telecourse. Slow response to emails. Quiz points were more than mid term and final. 3 big projects and not much guidance or clarity from her. Links she provided were borken and all she said was Oh well. I will not take her again.
The class was different to say the least. I found it to be more of a 3 hour gosip time rather than a class. It's an easy class, but you won't learn much.
Shawna was an awsome teacher! You treated as an individual instead of a student. We were all on first name basis. She is a very knowledgable and extremely nice person!

Her classes are very fun, but also a lot of work. I would suggest takeing her class to anyone who takes scool seriousley.

Do not take her i-net class. Very unorganized. Did not set up discussion board, so there was no communication amongst classmates. She should only be teaching in the classroom. Took days for her to reply to e-mail, and still didn't answer my questions.
Shawna was an awesome teacher.. I enjoyed her sense of humor! I was quiet during class but I really just wanted to have as much fun as I could with she was teaching.. DO DO take one of her classes!=)
You better be one of her favorites if you want an A on your marketing project because that's the only way you're going to get one!
If you like working in groups, no note taking, no lectures, then you'll like her.You take notes from the book for the tests, but have no idea what will be on them. I didn't feel like she taught at all, I taught myself. Good Luck!
Just about everything is a group project, i.e. tests, quizzes, and the marketing project. Tests are open notes and sometime open book. There is no way someone would not pass this class.
I have had Shawna for many classes and she knows a lot about every subject she teaches. She is down-to-earth and gives her own spin on each lesson with a real life application. Be prepared to take notes and do groupwork. Not the easiest, but you learn!
Have had a couple of classes..hung out with outside of class. She's Kuhn Young's best friend...quite the****hag. Tries to be young and hip but too obviously NOT. Boring, boring teacher. Tries to be buddies with students..I'd rather have a great teacher.
She is a nice person but a horrible teacher. You teach yourself. Don't ask any questions uless you want to be singled out and criticized. Never gives any handouts but expects perfect homework.
Shawna is AWESOME! The only way you'll have a problem is if you slack off. No, she is not a from-the-book teacher, but she gives fun, interesting and insightful lectures based on real life which is called an application of the text. GREAT TEACHER!
Really enjoyed this class of Shawna's. The discussions were great and her humor really helped to make the class seem to fly by in no time. The tests weren't easy, but they were open note, group, and sometimes open book. If you need HRM, take Shawna.

I have taken most of my marketing classes with her. I love shawna she is the best teacher ever. If you know your material and not just takeing class for easy A then you will do great. Fun and very helpful when ya ask.YES TAKE THIS TEACHER FOR MGT classes.

You better be good at taking notes from the book. That's the only way you'll pass the tests. I was lucky as i passed but I am terrible at taking notes from the book. As most classes do not require this. Test questions often are based on one sentence in the chapter. (often is hard to find)
Not a very good teacher. Singles out students in class. Doesn't teacher over subject, just talks about how much she hates Walmart. Tests are very hard and unfair.
I took this as a online class. While I like professor Mahaffey-she gave little to NO guide on projects required. I found her to be unavailable and very slow if not at all in responding to eamil. I would strongly recommend not taking her online course. And I have taking many online courses

I took a marketing class in high school and learned more than I did in this class. She is constantly late, and does not teach material. If your major is business then stay away unless you don't care about wasting your time.
This class sucked! I took it online and had little to no guidance from her. But the tests were all open book (they are REALLY hard). We had a paper assignment that simply said, write a paper on a business topic! No format, no length, no nothing, that was it. Easy A though.
Shawna is a GREAT teacher!!! All her tests are either open notes/book or group. You do NOT need to be some spactacular note taker to pass her class. Nothing to worry about all. I would tdefinetly reccomend her!!!

she picks students she likes to favor. But she's funny and I liked her textiles class.
OMG - what a joke. I paid for a 3-hour gossip session. Talks like a valley girl from the 80's to "fit in" but fails miserably. I didn't buy it. Should NOT be teaching business courses - maybe drama.
I liked this class, although online there was work to do, I liked how independent it was and that the tests were open book. I don't think that they were hard at all. One bad point is that if you want feedback you have better luck not asking the question and try to answer it yourself! Easy class.
I have taken Shawna for a few classes...Her classes are extrememly easy. But she never gets back with you if you e-mail her or call her...I had her for an internet class and needed to ask her an important question for our main project. I had to answer my own question after waiting 3 months for her!
I have had Shawna for a number of different classes. I love her as both a teacher and as a person. Yes, her classes are really easy and the tests are open book, but I learned a lot of practical stuff rather than book stuff. She only uses email, don't even try calling her! She is a very fun teacher
Good person, and teacher, just needs to add a little more info for us INET students. She still is a great teacher and person though. I'm sure it's not easy having a bunch of regular classes and a few INETS either.
Has a need to fit in with younger students. Fails miserably in her act as a "valley girl". Needs to feel popular. Classes spent gossiping or yakking about insignificant topics. If you want to learn anything about Mgt or Bus, take anyone else.
Same as previous person. I liked her but she didn't "teach" anything. Lots of gossip and chit-chat. Some related, mostly not. I did pay for this class and I expected A LOT more. It was like watching "The View" or something. I demand a refund - what a joke!

I've had Shawna for numerous classes. Her lectures are fun, which is more than I can say for the "by-the-book" professors. You learn through real-life situations and isn't that more practical since you can read the book on your own? She is VERY helpful and don't believe the other comments of problems with her, they probably weren't social.
Shawna is totally awesome! Her method of teaching is insightful and FUN! If you want the best overall experience then you should definitely take her!
Merchandising and Applied Merch. were absolutely great with Shawna! She is very helpful and her classes are laid back, interesting, insightful, AND they hold your attention. Highly recommended Delta professor!
i agree with many of the other students, classes consist of nothing but worthless drivel and pizza. yea they could be fun, but i felt like i was attending romper room rather than a college course.
Shawna is seriously one of Delta's greatest! I would tell anyone in the I.D. or MGT programs to seek her out and fast!

Take as many of her classes as possible. As long as you are a good student you will have a great time and will pass with flying colors. You get out what you put in. My favorite teacher of all time. I had her for about 8 different classes and didnt receive any grade less than a B.

I took this class online and she just put every assignment up and said it's due at the end of the semester. NO teacher involement = no real learning. If you want to learn, don't take this class online. She shouldn't get pay for teaching this class because she didn't teach.

Shawna is great! She relates her classes to real life experiences and is always enthusiastic about what is going on in the class. I would recommend taking this teacher as much as possible she will keep you positive and motivated to finish!!
Online class set up to fail. Everything due at end of semester. No teaching involved=No learning=Nothing to draw from when it comes time to do the work. Only good for the type of student that thrives on at own pace, teach yourself environment. What did I pay for? I just bought a grade, not an education. Can I buy a vowel? I'll take an A, Mr. Sajak.

Shawna is great! You work at your own pace and do things when your schedule permits. It's an online course because it requires independent work and this is college so don't expect her to babysit. Any negative reviewers probably just didn't do the work and that's their own fault. Seriously, one of the coolest and smartest at Delta!
I loved having this class over the Internet because you basically work on the assignments when you want to and there aren't all of these little checkpoints or deadlines along the way. Great class for those that enjoy independent learning and I'm glad that classes like this are offered.
Did not teach...did not grade assignements...felt like it was a waste of money. Easy assignments and it was great to work at own pace.

Teacher was a lot of fun, but I can't say I really learned all that much in her class. Failry easy work load, some interesting class discussions, and Shawna is one of a kind to say the least. If you've had her before you will know what I mean by that. I took this class during the summer, so maybe that's why it wasn't that great, but it wasn't hard.
I found Shawna to be a breath of freash air. It is not all instructor that make you want to learn. How everh Shawna is one that requires your very best. I would go to the ends of the earth fort this instrustor. Because she is that good. If you put in a little I promise you , You will take home an awfull lot. She is well worth your money...
i needed this class for my major, but i didn't get crap out of it. group tests, & if someone doesnt' pull their own weight, you're screwed. yep i got screwed. twice, got a B in the class, i should've gotten an A, thanks to the dumbasses that didn't take notes for their own chapters. teacher just stands their and talks about her own personal life
The Chicago Seminar was such a great time! Besides going to all of the highlights and learning so much about design, art and history; the trip was just plain fun. There was a lot of free time to see what you were interested in and Shawna was a great resource for extra information. Highly recommended for any major!
What a joke. Always late, always unorganized. It is as if she plans the class as she goes. The tests are straight from the book and not from what she teaches, because she doesn't teach she just talks about the most pointless things. Again, what a joke.
I cannot believe she is the chair for the business department. I am at Northwood now and Delta did not prepare me for Northwood what so ever. The whole business department needs to be revamped to actually prepare students for a four year university!!! You can't take any other teacher because the majority of them are just like her.
To start, Shawna is not the bus. chair so bad previous comment. Secondly, I started over at Northwood and feel over-prepared because of Shawna's help. With anything, if you don't put in the work and the time, you don't get much of an ROI. The class discussions prepare you for the real world and, obviously, some people don't like the real world.

Interior Design grad from years ago, but recently started a new degree. My experience with this instructor compared to other profs at Delta was extreme. If you want a good grade, play politics and be her new best friend. If you are there to learn, better read the text and memorize. Wouldn't take another of her classes if someone paid me.
Shawna is not the problem -- the whole bus division at Delta is corrupt, starting with the chair on down and the secretary is no help either.
