Gives good assignments and is a fair grader. The final research paper was a bit long and she didn't really give enough time. Overall pretty good (and not bad looking to boot!).

she's very sweet and nice looking. she understands if you need help and explains well. Everything for test and essays , she explains well.

this course was great. she always explained what she expected and offered help. u learn a lot from the class and its not hard to earn a good grade. she offered some extra credit, too. she's real chill and easy to talk to and get along with. she's fun.

dont do too much of anything in class. need to show up or you lose points. very funny and not bad looking either. easy grader i think. essays are a pain but very doable. got an A. very entertaining.

I took Ms Stokes Spring 2006, She is an amazing teacher, if u dont show up then u lose points so if u are a cronic no show person dont take her class. But she goes out of her way to help you, She is always avalable after class or online if u need her! The essays are a bit hard but very do-able! i hardly tryed and i got an A! TAKE HER SHE IS AWESOM

I don't know why that last person is so negative. This was an intro class and shelia used intro stuff to teach the class. She seemed to help all the students even ones that acted like they were smarter than everyone. Most people said they liked the class so that negative stuff could be just one person getting upset.

Super funny teacher, she makes class go by fast, cracks cheesey jokes in class.. there's pretty much a mini quiz everyday in class about the reading for last night hw. only 5 points but they add up.. essay's are 100 points and there's 4 of them.. she's cute and fun so might as well take her i'm gonna take her again for 100... she's awsome

She's pretty funny and likes to get students involved in class. There's quizzes, writing homework, and essays, but thats about it. She does do group work too, but it's pretty comfrtable. I would recommend her and I got a B.

Mrs. Stokes is amazing. She really enjoys teaching and is SO helpful--especially if you come talk to her outside of class. I earned a B, and while I'm disappointed, i feel like i couldn't have learned more with a different teacher. She's not terribly difficult, but take her even if you feel that way. You will not regret it.

I had her for eng 60 and 100. I took her class at 8 in the morning for a reason haha she is a very cool teacher very helpful but make sure you do your reading which isnt much at all and make sure you do some homework which isnt much. She is probably one of the most down to earth teachers out there real cool. Attractive too =]

Had her for English 100H and she made the class a lot of fun. THe work load is not too heavy and the topics covered are really interesting

i took miss stokes last semester. i finished in the top 3 in my class. I feel like i have not learned anything this whole semester if you want a easy teacher take her but if you want to learn i suggest some one else

Sheilah (and make sure you remember the "h"!) is a great prof- always available to help with essays, reading comp, etc. and prompt with answering emails. I LOVED this class- we had the best discussions! It was a lot of work, but it IS a Lit. class, after all- lots of reading. She loves her subject and is witty and fun!

Great professor! The class is centered around discussions about the readings, so very interesting classes every day. Lots of writing, but what do you expect from a writing class? She is a very fair grader, and is very helpful if you ask her anything. Overall a very interesting, and relatively easy class.

Professor Stokes made English very fun! She has a great personality so you can't help it but stay awake in her class. She's very helpful too, and has helped me more than once outside of class. She has a great sense of humor. Overall, she's a wonderful teacher.

Stokes is really funny. She assigns reading homework but they're very simple and are usually no longer than a few pages. Her homework assignments are also easy aswell and there are very few of them. She is very passionate about her subject and her students. Just do all the required work and you'll easily pass.

She is really weird in a really awesome way. She's very quirky, entertaining and smart. She went to SF University.. or Berkley I can't remember. I loved her class!

Mrs. Dobyns is by far my favorite teacher ever. She has a great sense of humor and never lets the class get boring. She had us read True Notebooks and it was well worth reading. Easy A

I had her for English 60 and arranged my entire Fall '10 schedule just so i could have her 100 class. She genuinely cares about her students and is never condisending whenever you have questions. Quirky is the perfect word to describe her! She's just an overall amazing teacher. I wish more professors were like her :)

She makes you work hard for your grade in her upper division classes, but she is fun and interesting. And because she is on the harder side you learn more. She wants her students to go farther than what is expected and if you exceed the basic criteria you'll learn and get a good grade :)

She knows what she she's talking about and I thought this class was going to be a bit hard but to my surprise she is very helpful and responds to your emails whenever you have a question. She wants you to do great in this class but I know some students didn't really care and there's so much she can do.

this class was really fun and she has a great sense of humor she really cares about her students and is a really great teacher, you should keep up with readings because she assigns quizzes on the readings but most of the readings are really fun anyways so that's not too hard to do

Very straight-forward class. Easy to get an A as long as you have the work ethic to write 5 essays, two in class. That's the only bad part.

Easy A. Earn extra credit by going to the writing center, and secure an A by visiting her office hours to talk over your essay with her before you turn it in. Lovely, lovely professor, she really wants you to grow as both a writer and an individual.

Not an easy A! You will have to work. Professor Dobyns is the quintessential honors instructor: brilliant, engaging, and effective. One of the rare gems at FC you shouldn't miss, take her!

Pros: Mrs. Dobyns is always there to help you. She makes class interesting and helps get everyone involved. She will give you opportunities for extra credit and plenty of time on all assignments. Her essays are longer than other lit classes, but then you only do 2 instead of 3. She teaches in a variety of ways! Cons: Handwriting is hard to read.

I LOVE Dobyns! She is one of my favorite professors at Fullerton. First of all, she is hilarious. I had her 8 am Fridays which I was originally dreading bc of the time and she absolutely made my mornings much better! She is very clear during lectures and makes discussing the literature intriguing. I would def take her again!

What an amazing professor. She is so quirky it's adorable and impossible not to enjoy her lectures. The reading is heavy but she is great at helping students understand and analyze the work. An amazing professor, really cares about her students and tries to make all essay prompts as clear as possible. Offers small amount of extra credit & always welcomes students to her office hours. Loved her but definitely gotta work and show up for your grade.

I took her for Honors 100 and she was fantastic! She's clear and gives good feedback before and after the papers are turned in. She's responsive to e-mails surprisingly late at night. She asked me to be a teacher's assistant for her and she was great for that too. I can't say enough nice things about her.

Professor Dobyns is a great English teacher! She helps you understand the prompts thoroughly and this was my actual first night class and she makes you engage in it rather than fall asleep! Totally recommend her

Prof. Dobyns is very energetic and speaks her mind. Though she assigns a lot of essays she does prepare you before you get started. However, in my class there was a lot of students that did not participate for peer review. The peer review is mandatory to pass her class. Also, I recommend you to take her if you are mentally prepared for feed backs.

She was a good professor. Lots of essays, but they were fun to write because she offered three different prompts for each essay and allowed for students to edit the prompt/create their own. Kind of quirky, sometimes snappy, but nice.

English class so, lots of reading and writing! Just keep up with the assigned readings & come to class prepared with a good outline of your essay & a good rough draft on peer review days. Attendance is vital to passing this class; Never be late and try not to be absent, you'll lose a lot of points for just those two things. Pf. Dobyns is amazing!

Amazing teacher, shes really funny. don't lack on any homework assignments, grading is easy if you just study for all the quizes. Dont miss class she gives points on attendence eventhough she doesn't tell you. having a hard taime ask her for help shell always be helpful except on weekends.

Funny and lighthearted professor. English is always my worst subject, and I received lower grades in some major assignments, but she is very attentive and willing to help, and I ended up with an A despite my weaknesses. Quite a lot of homework and quizzes, but they're not too difficult. Do NOT procrastinate in this class.

One of the best! Dobyns genuinely cares about her students and does everything she can to give you the resources to improve and do well in the class. Really helps you understand the material. She's also super kind and funny! She gives her all and she expects the same from students, so don't be absent and do the reading and you'll be fine.

Many Assignments given helps pre-write essay no procrastination & understand the process. Works with students. Lecture from reading. Go to her office hours if needed help. Allows class to input essay topic ideas. There are quizzes, could use notes. Don't be afraid to take her if writing confidence is low. Mine was but I learned.

Great introduction to college level English and the standards of college. She puts in her effort and she expects no different. Does not curve grades, but don't let that discourage you. Socratic discussions are insightful and her essay topics require critical thinking. She really wants you to succeed and prepare you for future English classes.

TAKE THIS COURSE! She is the BEST at teaching. She puts in a lot of effort and carefully balances her time so the students have enough time on each essay. Go to her office hours! I went weekly and it really paid of! She's great at feedback and really helps each student succeed in her course. The quizes are really easy as well!

This was a great class to take, I actually enjoyed going to class every morning. The work isnt hard if you find your self struggling you can email her or go to her office hours. Lots of group classwork. Highly recommended

Lots of quizzes in the beginning so take good notes from the text book, lots of students struggled early on because they werent doing so well but you can bring up your grade with each essay. Essay 1-2 10% of grade Essay 3-4 20% of grade. also midterm

Professor Dobyns is such a gem! She explains everything thoroughly and is extremely transparent in what she expects. You can go to her office hours for feedback on essay drafts and she will GLADLY help you. She is extremely caring of her students and makes and effort to get to know them. Also gives a lot of extra credit! Easy A if you try!! 100/10!

Ugh, I love Prof. Dobyns! She is honestly such a great teacher. She is always there if you need help on your essays and she literally wants her students to do their best. We only write like 4 essays, and there is small quizzes based on the readings from the textbook (you can use a cheat sheet btw.) It might seem like a lot, but it really isn't.

Mrs. Dobyns is a great teacher. She tries hard for students to understand what they need to do. The grading is tough but if you work with her and ask questions,participate in class, and read the valuable texts she's assigns you should be fine. All in all she's a wonderful, funny and caring teacher. I highly reccomend!

This Professor is great! In English 100 H she assigns 4 essays with annotated bibs in MLA format . Her feedback is helpful. She has group disscussions and engages with students . Shes is available outside of class. Highly recomend her for english. Dont be late its rude.

Dobyns is a great teacher; she really cares about what is going on with your life and if you're having any trouble just go to her. Office hours really help when you're struggling with an essay so I definitely recommend going. She really wants you to thrive in college overall. 10/10

Took her spring semester '20 as a fully online class. The class was very organized and easy to maneuver. The assignments leading up to the essay will help you write the essay. Do the assignments. She really cares and wants her students to succeed and be able to write better essays. I feel more confident in writing after her classes.

She was the best! Honestly the best English Professor. I had her for both ENG 100 and ENG 103. Prepare to write a lot and socializing with classmates. Grading was fair and feedback was amazing. Test and quizzes weren't that hard, just study hard!

I usually don't like English classes but Professor Dobyns was always there and had her weekly extra credit meeting every week which was VERY helpful and easy credit! Totally a great Professor! If you had difficulty, she always helped out as best she could. Well organized. Classwork was decent nothing extremely hard. Grading criteria is clear. Gave students great resources and the right motivation. Would definitely recommend.

Dobyns was a great professor. She cared and her feedback was helpful. She managed to organize the class rather well and did not assign an overwhelming amount of work. She also listened to her students and was accommodating. I would definitely take her again.

Dobyns helped me regain confidence in my writing after bad experiences with high school English and dropping ENGL 100 with another instructor. She spells out exactly what you need to do to get an A, and assignments are designed to build up to the essays. Offers extra credit for going to tutoring/writing lab

She's amazing. Although it is an online class, she tries her best to give you feedback. She's always welcome personal appointment. If you finish one essay and you want someone to go over it for you, go ask her because the class design is slightly different from the writing center requirements. She's understanding and caring. Go take her.

I don't get why she has any low ratings at all. Maybe because she grades honestly? Seriously, just follow the formatting of the essays and you'll get an A. Need extra help? Go to the writing center as she tells you to (which yields extra credit) or drop by her office hours. She's of the most caring instructors who wants to see you succeed!

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with Dobyns. Her class facilitations made understanding the articles so much clearer and the outlines she provided made the essays easier. However, she is a strict grader with the essays and doesn't give clear feedback on how you can improve. I never received more than an A- on all four essays. She's super chill.

We had monthly essays on current topics regarding students and would use fairly recent articles that were interesting. She was a stress free class and I enjoyed her office hours.

Best english professor to start college with! She gives great feedback and is so organized! The coursework isn't too intense and we get a lot of guidance during essay week. The sources she shares are very interesting. I can't wait to take another class with her!

Prof. Dobyns was absolutely amazing. Her class was very easy to follow, be aware that you do have to read a pretty hefty amount and around 4 essays throughout the semester. Weekly words of encouragement as well :). If English comes easy to you this class will be a breeze. Very lenient on late work as well. Overall one of the best professors at FC.

Professor Dobyns runs a challenging but rewarding class. Her tough grading pushes you to improve as a writer, and office hours are a must for extra support. I found unstuck AI and the writing center to be incredibly helpful study tools alongside the assigned readings.

Prof Dobyns is the sweetest and truly cares about her students. Heavily against AI for good reason, if you actually want to be a good writer then don't take her. Lots of assignments and reading but they help you write the 4 essays (ends up being copy/paste). Very casual and friendly- she'll provide helpful feedback whenever you ask.

Professor Dobyns is the professor that I wish everyone could be. She clearly cares about the success of her students. My grade in her class started to slip and she did everything she could to understand my situation and give the help that I needed, leading to me passing. I 100% recommend taking any class of hers!
