Very helpful but she makes this class extremely hard and extremely time consuming. But very helpful to students.
Unnecessarily difficult. Take someone else if you have other time commitments.

The worst instructor I have ever had in my life. As a person she is super sweet. She is unclear, and expects you to understand her. Her style of teaching is so poor, that it is virtually impossible to take notes. We taught ourselves everything!!
Extremely hard to follow... tried to hold on to her coat tails, but still the lowest grade I have ever received for the most effort I have ever given.
Did not like this professor I did. (Yoda) Hard, confusing, and tests suck.
She's one of the few teachers who cares about the kind of education we receive at the school. She'll actually grade each and every test; the grade you get is the grade you deserve. Amazing teacher...just not for crybabies.
Worst prof I have ever taken. Does not convey the subject in a clear manner and is a scatter brain. Her recitation sucks and you take nothing from it. To top it all off, the woman is a hypochondriac and always attempts to play this card for sympathy—as if
Good professor. Test was hard. But a very good professor.
Very nice woman, but very demanding and vague. The exam was just random and did not adequately test what we had prepared for all semester. This professor is very demanding of your time and will schedule numerous "extra" classes.
Lost in her own little world...
She spent most of the course pontificating on her view of torts. I thought she was more of an undergrad professor.
Too busy pontificating about poor, faultless Andrea Yates to spend time working on an exam reflecting a realistic grasp of torts material. Spoke too softly to hear. Demanded timeliness, but frequently showed up late. Could be rude to students who couldn't answer her pointed, off-target ?s.
True, she does have some downsides, but overall you will learn the hell out of torts if you put the work in. Exams are terrifying. I left thinking I'd failed with a single digit, but it turned out to be my best grade of the semester. Prepare, prepare, prepare.
Prof. Moore is one of the toughest, most demanding, and most gifted profs at our school. She has a reputation for being tough, and it is well deserved. Random Recitation, and an incredibly difficult test. Do not take this class unless you really want to learn the material. People who don't want to work are the ones who complain about her class.
whoa can we say hard!?! very in depth recitation style (can't stress that enuf)--be prepared to recite the fullest extent possible, and definately read all the notes at the end of each case (that's where she gets all her random dribble from); but at the end of the day, the rule to take away is this: write down every freaking word she says in class!
I thought I was going to drop out of law school after my first class with Moore. It was horrific. Day by day, it got better and Prof Moore became more and more human. Before I knew it, she was my favorite teacher and I looked forward to each class. The exam was difficult, but everyone expects it.
Very hard prof Sit in the middle of the classroom and you will never be called on
The ONLY worse professor at STCL is Ricks. Moore reminds me of the typical rude clerk. She will look at you like you have three eyeballs if you bother her with a question, and then say as little as she can in a whole-hearted effort to avoid being helpful. Oh, and bring a large novel if you make an appointment w/ her--she's likes to make you wait.
Believe the hype, she's a tough teacher. However, prep well for her class and take solid notes you'll get a good grade. Put forth the effort by going to her office and ask her questions you have problems with- Professor Moore is hard-nosed, but she is kind and once respect has been established on both sides you'll see she's one of the best at ST.
Nearly impossible to hear in class. Exam may cover material not discussed in class. Tends to read material from casebook without much additional info.
31-page exam that no one finished. Hard to hear in class and does not like to be questioned. Recitations ranged from 5 to 30 minutes depending on students preparedness. But, bottom line was if you did the reading and took notes, you get a good grade.
Yes, her exams are not made to be finished, but she is the kindest, sweetest prof there. She is brilliant! Don't fall behind. Just do the work. Prop II is not nearly as hard as Prop I. (When you recite a case, you'd better KNOW the case and the cases cited within the case) Loved her! She raised the standard at STCL.
Over the top. While some like her teaching style (she does keep students honest with recitation, but no need to badger over minute details), I find it a little too intense. Test is impossible and leaves students feeling like why they even bothered studying when the curve is going to have to be that large regardless. Students beware...
Final is impossible. Recitation was goofy, way too much focus on each sentence of the case and not enough on the law and its application. Big chip on her shoulder. Won't answer questions, just tells the person who asks to answer it themself. Least favorite prof ever.
She was a great teacher during torts I and her final was easy despite the overkill with lots of information, but during torts II all that changed. Despite practicing torts II exam writing, the torts II final was impossible and confusing. She overloaded us with too much info in torts II and it was hard to keep up. G
Okay professor during class. I actually enjoyed lectures. Final was totally unfair. She asked about small details- details I couldn't even find in bar study books. It was also too long! It was frustrating to study so hard and to not even be able to complete the assessment of what I learned. I felt like I knew the material going into the final
i'd just avoid her if you can. final is scary (everyone was sure they had failed) but grades seemed fair enough... i guess. she's too angry to teach in my opinion
Had her FIRST SEMESTER and almost dropped out. You can read the case 5x and she will ask Q's during recitation and you'll have no idea what she's talking about. The most difficult professor at STCL, yet the most helpful. DO NOT make the mistake of carrying a supplement into her class. She will chew you up and spit you out!
Moore is an amazing prof. She really cares about her students and takes the time to help you out. Take advantage of her extra help and you will do well in her class. Be prepared for class. The grade you get is the grade you deserve. The people who dont do well are the people who dont take the time to figure out what she wants on the exam.
She is angry, insecure, unprofessional, and extremely overrated. Avoid her at all costs.
She was a great professor. She is extremely helpful outside of class. She went into great detail with the cases. She is sometimes forgetful or unclear about extra lectures outside of class, but was knowledgeable and prepared for class. Would take her again.
The class was hard. I liked her style because it was SO thorough and I felt like I learned a lot, but I also worked much harder than in T's I. Go to Langdell, memorize the prods liability and defamation stuff and you can pull a decent grade. Take notes on the notes after the cases. I didn't attend the extra sessions and still made a good grade.
Great person, difficult teacher. I would recommend getting to know her, but based on One-L classes, I would NEVER take her again (and I did well in her class). Of course, she could be different in later classes, but the experience was so bad, I'll never risk it to find out.
The reality is that Moore lives in her own world and, therefore, when she teaches her class, she teaches the "Professor Moore" guide to the subject. Pray that she likes your whole class because she's vindictive and holds grudges against an entire class based on one or two bad students. Her tests are ridiculous, bordering on impossible. Avoid her.
I love prof. Moore. She was very tough during recitation. Read the case until you know it backwards and forward. Her exam was also very hard. I studied my @$$ off and did decent. Multi. choice isn't bad if you know the rules, but the essay was impossible. She is very helpful outside of class. Just be prepared and write down everything she says.
Moore is an incredibly difficult teacher, but don't be too intimidated. The worst part of her class is recitation, so read the case 3x and brief it thoroughly. You really should go write for her to prepare for the essay portion of the exam. You must be prepared for class. Strangely, many (including me), didn't recite, and one girl recited 4 times.
I took Shelby for Torts. Nice person and ok teacher. Her exam was focused heavily on the first part of the course (intentional torts) and was what I would call a machine-gun approach (identify 15 intentional torts, give quick summaries, analysis, policy). The negligence part was in the second half and was not given the space it deserved. Thanks.
Moore loved my class, but not me so much. I think she's a bit overrated. She is available outside of class to go over sample essays or answer questions, but you have to seek her out and work with her schedule...she had more time for some people. Learn her rules and only her rules. Her exam is difficult, but not impossible if you practice.
Do not take this professor unless you want to be called out for going to the bathroom. Final was difficult simply b/c class was completely different than what she tested on. Take Rensberger. He may be hard, but at least he is fair. Recitation is a waste of everyone's time. She mumbles, is a low talker, and speaks much to fast. AVOID LIKE THE PLAUGE
This is the only professor at STCL about whom I can find absolutely nothing positive to say.
If you do not have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all....
Prof Moore is amazing. She expects a lot from her students, but this is law school. It isn't supposed to be easy. She stayed with my class really late the night of the exam to make sure we understood what she wanted. Awesome woman.
If you happen to be unlucky and get her, pray that she likes the class. Shes vindictive and will hold grudges against the entire class like a pre schooler. She lives in her own world, filled with law and law school. Prevents students from going to the bathroom and even forces them to attend classes outside the normal meeting time.
Think of her like an overrated first round pick. On paper looks very qualified, but the truth of the matter is she is NOT good. Vindictive, Takes grudges out on the class, Is consistently late turning in grades, Egocentric, refuses to let people go to the bathroom, constantly wastes class time (YOUR MONEY). If you have the choice DONT TAKE HER
Professor Moore mumbles and becomes flustered when asked to repeat herself. Everything I learned in Property I was self-taught; if I asked her a question, I walked away even more confused. She only calls on a select-few: those that frequent her office hours. I feel sorry for you if you get her.
For all the whiners and haters - grow up..Professor Moore knows her stuff and she is tough on first year students..well when you get in the real world the judge will be the same way...she was very helpful if you asked and even met students on the weekend..I got through the class with a B+ and if you can succeed in her class then you will succeed.
Professor Moore is the best professor. She is extremely helpful, if you go to her office she will allow you to do practice exams and give your tips to succeed. It is wise to do this because she will ensure you will do well. She is strict but I like it because she tells you exactly how she wants you to answer questions on the exam! Very structured.
Had Moore for Torts 1 and Property 1. Torts 1 - she was a pretty good prof. Prop. 1 - worst professor of my college career, literally. Emailed students exam material the night before the final exam! She lacked an understanding of material. Openly favored some students by sending them texts.
The worst professor I have ever had to deal with. She is not organized, very dry, rude and thin skinned. Her final is very hard, mainly because she puts together super confusing hypo's and gives little direction. Her lectures are also worthless, you will teach yourself this material. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this professor at ALL costs.
The test is very manageable. Meet with her after class to do practice tests. Professor Moore has a good heart and cares about students. Unfortunately, her calling is not teaching. She belongs in an advisor/academic counselor role, not as a lecturer. She cannot coherently express complex ideas. You will be stressed out if you take her courses.
I have never EVER had a worse professor. She may be knowledgeable about the law but she has no clue how to teach it. Regardless of having a mandatory text she required reading from another text (which somedays she only posted the day before class) that were upwards up 100 pages. She caters to students who fawn over her
Prof. Moore is by far one of the best; if not the best Professor in law school. Negative comments are likely from people who did poorly in her class, have lack of discipline, and are not acountable to their class preparation. She is thurough, strict, and demanding but you will leave her class a better student and will know the material in and out.
Prof. Moore is an odd woman. Very friendly outside of the classroom but a less than pleasant professor in the classroom. Her "test" was awful. MC was poorly worded. The essay was a jumbled mess. Her recitation? Brutal. Her lecture? Not clear and difficult to hear since she refused to use her microphone. Avoid if possible.
Great prof. Not as bad as everyone thinks. Actually very helpful and friendly if you get to know her.
Probably the best professor I have ever had in my life. I had no interest in torts before her class, and ended up loving it! She will help you if you seek it, whenever. She loves teaching and is committed to her profession. Pay attention and participate in class...really pays off in the end! Absolutely loved this class.
This class is worst class I have ever taken. She was 200 pages behind, constantly demeaning to her students, and goes thru 10 pages a day in class. I would recommend her if you liked Prof Umbridge.
The only benefit in going to class is signing the attendance form to not be dropped. She has powerpoints, but won't post them; her lectures do not tell you what the rules are. She spends too much time on things that aren't important, and the stuff you need, is unclear. You will leave more confused than when you enter, and end up teaching yourself.
Terrible professor. It amazes me that she made tenure. Unclear, moody, derogatory, awful in all respects. It is also amazing that students think she is a good professor. I'll never take another class of her's again.
Does not test you on what she teaches in class. In class stresses the UPC and UTC, but on Exam only wants to know about Texas law. She will not tell you this but will wait until the day before the exam. DO NOT TAKE HER OR TRUST HER.
This class should be helpful, fun, and prepare us for the bar. Moore defeats all of that. She won't post powerpoints and her lectures are circular/ pointless. She spends too much time on things that aren't important, and the info you need is absent. Her class will confuse and undermine your learning. If possible, choose a diff prof.
At first I didn't like Prof. Moore. She is tough and intimidating, however, she is one of the few professor who takes her time to assist students. She was even willing to meet on Sunday. Ask questions and ask for practice exams, her feedback is valuable.
Hard is an understatement, toughest professor I've had so far. But she is all the best. She demands respect, punctuation, and class participation. Dont mess around and you'll love her, in class she is cold but outside of class she is the nicest lady in the world. Final is ridiculously hard too. Good Luck
She is rigorous and expects you to know that material the way SHE wants you to. Even when I asked her to clarify the material outside of class, she seemed angry that I had to ask.
Must be prepared for class, extremely professional and very thorough. Low tolerance for those not willing to work for it. Will walk away from this class with a good understanding of the material. Have Torts data drilled into my brain forever. Those who have taken the bar tell me this class makes that part of the bar easy.
She is the best teacher I've had, but she challenges you. I've never worked harder, but as a result I understand torts better than anything. She's also incredibly helpful and would go to war for her students. She spent hours and hours helping students not only for her class but others.
Prof. Moore is a tough prof. in class, but you must seek her help outside of class and she will be there to help you. she is willing to go above and beyond for her students. She was even willing to meet on a Sunday. Ask her for practice exams and she will give you valuable feedback.
Property 2 with Professor Moore was hard to get used to because she was not the prof. for Property 1. GO SEE HER OUTSIDE OF CLASS. She is always willing to help her students. Recitation is hard if you are unprepared. Read, go see her, and ask questions and you will be ok.
Moore was one of those professors where going in I disliked, but honestly by the end of the semester I ended up learning the most in her class than any other classes i've taken so far. Having said that, her recitations are brutal and you may get called on more than once... Also, she can be very confusing in class. Good luck!
She talks really fast in class and doesn't allow the use of laptops. Her class can be confusing, especially during the negligence half of the class. But she is very helpful if you see her in her office. Do the practice exams and make an appointment with her so she can give you advice. I thought I failed the exam, but ended up doing well.
She is a great teacher with a genuine interest in her students BUT she won't give you an easy A. You have to be willing to work for it. If you are willing to put in the effort, there is nothing she won't do for you. She really cares about her students but she wants to see you care about your education.
Went in not liking this class at all. Recitation is TOUGH. Be prepared. However, Prof Moore is extremely willing to help regardless of what you may think of her. Speak to her, she makes herself so available. Her final is difficult but learn from HER one on one. Ask HER what she wants and learn HER way. Very specific way to answer her exams.
Prof. Moore is a very interesting teacher and loves a good laugh. She wants you to succeed and pushes you to know the law, this includes: verbatim intentional Torts definitions and specific negligence essays. Do not be fooled though, she is a tough lady and will not take any b.s. Good luck and keep your head up. (Watch out for the bullseye)
Moore definitely has a reputation for being tough but I've never met a professor at STCL who cares more about her students than her. I did ok in her class but she has my utmost respect. Read, come to class prepared (know facts/rule/policy) and you will do fine. Pay attention in class and you'll be a pro at intentional torts and negligence.
Prof. Moore has the reputation for being one of the toughest profs at STCL. This is true. BUT, she gives you the keys to success if you're willing to listen. Take her advice in class, and go to her office regularly from the beginning of the semester. If you memorize the definitions of everything, and follow her framework, you should do well!
Prof. Moore truly wants her students to succeed and thrive. If you make an effort in her class, she will be your biggest ally and resource. Wonderful woman and is truly passionate about helping students.
This woman is an exceptional professor and South Texas is lucky to have her. She goes above and beyond to make sure that you understand the material and prepares you for the bar exam early on. She commands respect and truly wants the best for every student. If you are not willing to work for success you will struggle in her class.
Very respected prof. I just think her teaching style wasn't for me. She makes you stand for recitation. She ask things from the reading that quimbe would never be able to provide you. She can be funny in a dry humor way. She goes through lectures quick and doesn't allow time to write. So you have to be prepared! She doesn't like repeating herself
She is strict and commands respect and is a tough grader, HOWEVER she is very thorough in lecture. She is great at answering questions and is very accessible. SHE GENUINELY CARES ABOUT THE SUCCESS OF THE STUDENTS. She will help you if you reach out.
Excellent at her craft.
Professor Moore's class was definitely the most stressful in my schedule. Still, Moore is an amazing professor with real dedication to her students. She will meet with you often to help with understanding the material. She is very tough on grading but gives tons of feedback. Cold calls are pretty intense! Reading the case is mandatory, just do it!
Moore is very intelligent but she isn't very considerate. Every class Moore lectures for 15-30 minutes over her allotted class time, and while you may leave, you will be severely disadvantaged. She also moved our midterm to a Saturday with less than a weeks notice. Her actions indicate she believes her class is more important than the other classes
The worst professor I had my first semester. She mumbles definitions and never repeats them. She was extremely unorganized. Her canvas page is terrible and hardly used. If you take her online course be ready for her dogs to yap ALL lecture. during reviews, she wouldn't answer questions because "we covered them at the beginning of the year"
Absolutely, undisputedly, without a doubt in my mind, the worst professor I've ever had in my life. I could write a book on her about the lack of respect, nonconducive methods to teaching, poor attitude, incredibly unorganized in about every aspect I can think of., etc. It's pitiful.
Intense coursework, but amazing results. Prof will get you through class and beyond if you ask and take the time to write with her.
There is a difference between mean and having discipline/structure. Professor Moore is emotionally invested in her students. Far from mean! Sturn? Yes. Structured? Yes. Disciplined? Yes. She is not here to just see you through her class. She invests in her students so that they will do amazing, well after her class.
Professor Moore is without question the most caring professor that I have had during my entire academic career. With her great care-comes her high expectations from her students. She will go above and beyond to help any student, and she also expects for students to not only learn the law-but to remember 15 pages of definitions verbatim.
Professor Moore will truly make you work in here class. She's very accessible outside of class and very willing to help students. Simply stated, if you do the work in this class you will do well. If you take shortcuts and are lazy, you will struggle and do very poorly on the exam.
She's a tough professor and this class is extremely heavy on memorization. HOWEVER, if you are willing to work with her, she will work with you. She outlines exactly what she wants, so be sure to pay attention.
All in all a good first-year experience. Extremely knowledgeable. Disorganized, so you will have to overcome that. Requires verbatim definitions. Do the work and you will be fine.
I was iffy on her to start the semester as she was very disorganized and super strict. She requires you to memorize nearly 80 terms and definitions. However, she will give you everything you need for the test so PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. She was also very accessible close to finals and i wish i would have taken advantage of that.
I firmly believe how you treat others is how you deserve to be treated and Prof. Moore makes very clear she does not respect her students at all. Incredibly disorganized, scheduled an exam in less than 24 hours over a weekend, ignores emails, rude, dismissive, mumbles and then refuses to repeat herself. The college is well aware and enables.
The worst professor on earth. She is very rude to students, has no respect for our time. She cares more about her ego than the material. She never updates her Canvas page, rarely replies to emails, and cancels meetings left and right, and makes what could be a great class terrible.
The most genuine professor I have ever had. If anyone has something negative to say, its because they did not speak to her personally. If you read for class you have already done half the work. (I know everyone says this but its true.) Outline and get your rules approved by her!! Also practice writing for her outside of class and its a guaranteed A
Disorganized, rude, and disrespectful.
She's passionate and wants you to do well. People that complain about her are just lazy. Read the cases before class because she does random recitation. GO TO HER LANGDELLS! Meet with her and you will do fine. She literally tells you what she expects from you. Material itself is not complicated just understand the rules.
High reviews are from kiss a**es. She is incredibly inconsiderate of her students' time, rude, focuses on pointless memorization of her exact definitions, tells students all different things in office hours, plays favorites,+ can NOT teach to save her life. Turned grades in late so students missed OCI opportunities. VBB is an angel compared to her.
Prof Moore is very demanding in her expectations and she is unwavering in them. However, she goes out of her way to ensure you understand the concepts, if you meet with her. In class the expectation is that you read and understood the key concepts. If you don't ask a question she will assume that you understood the information.
She always had something come up during our scheduled meetings. The first two times, I understood. The fourth time was the deal breaker. She also loves to gossip about other students. She has favorites that are always in her office. If you are not a favorite and exchange gossip with her, she will not help you.
Moore uses unnecessary intimidation tactics with her students (especially if it's your first semester.) Creates unnecessary drama and then blames the students for it. Portraits herself/her class as the center of the universe to students and as if her class is top priority and her class is the only one students are taking.
She considers her time and her schedule more important than her students. She forgets students are paying HER for HER TO TEACH and PROVIDE students with the resources and tools needed to do well at South Texas as well as the bar exam. She definitely does play favorites and is all into the gossip.
She mentions she will supply powerpoints, handouts, & multiple choice questions or practice essays, &NEVER does; gets upset when someone brings it up to her. Most importantly, she does not prepare you for her puzzling final/essay. Her essay prompts are mind-games and are written to confuse the students. She does not give prompt feedback on anything.
Unorganized
Advice to first-semester 1Ls: know the bullseye. Memorize the rules and definitions that she gives you - these will be applied to sets of facts on the exam. Do not spend valuable study time briefing EVERY case for her class. The purpose of the case brief is to have the rule written down and to have something to reference to if you get called on.
She is great and funny but Moore is a difficult grader. Moore prepares you and tells you exactly what she is looking for on her exams. Be prepared for class with briefs (use online briefs if you don't have time to brief if yourself), ask questions and discuss, and visit her outside of class as often as possible! She's soft spoken but funny!
Hard prof, prob the hardest you'll have as 1L. Does random recitation. You WILL need to read the cases and notes. GO TO OFFICE HOUR ASAP. She goes over your outline, gives you the exact rules. She is a tough prof, but genuinely cares. After her class, recitation for other classes is less scary. Doesn't have PPT/record so pay attention & take notes.
1. Go to her office hours, yes you will have to wait, yes she is hard to get ahold of, yes its annoying, but if you don't go YOU WILL NOT DO WELL. 2. Brief the cases well and read the notes, DO NOT USE QUIMBEE, you will regret it. 3. She wants verbatim rules and will make you find them yourself and go to her to approve them (OFFICE HOURS)
Calls on students to recite cases til class is over. Rarely lectures. What she says and writes down on the board is often jumbled. If you're confused with the material, she'll go out of her way to not help. Wants students to get her to tell them what she's looking for on the final, whether it's rules or essay formatting. That's not teaching Torts.
Shelby Moore's TORTS1 class is a challenging one, but if you put in the work, you'll learn a lot. Attend class, read the cases, and use resources like Unstuck ai to prepare - it really helps.
