Fantastic Teacher.

The material is difficult, but Professor Lotten explains everything very systematically, and he grades very fairly. Work hard and you will do well in his class!

Pretty cool teacher. Don't get me wrong, the class was pretty tough - you have to go every day and I had an hour of homework every night, at least, but I learned a lot and he made class fun and interesting. Definitely worth taking.

Its nearly impossible to recieve a high grade. I would not recommend this professor to anybody. The course material is very intense so you will need to spend at least 2 hours a night reviewing it.

He's a good teacher but fairly tough....it might be easier if you get another teacher

Best class I ever took at LSU. In high school, I made all Cs in Spanish, but made an A in this class and was #1 ranked in the class. Lotten expects a lot out of his students but it is worth the work. Only spanish is spoken in class and by the end of the semester I could actively converse with others in Spanish. Demanding, but excellent class.

Very helpful and enthusiastic, making the class interesting and fun. Text books are definitely required and the homework is checked. he makes you work for your grade, but it isn't hard if you follow instructions and actually do the homework. RECOMMEND!

This instructor grades kind of hard. He is not a bad teacher but I have had better ones. He wants students to learn and be successful but you have to be 100% dedicated to spanish (which most students aren't)…he is the only class I made a B in this semester...I would try to schedule with someone else.

I had him for two consecutive semesters and enjoyed it. He was pleasant and excited about spanish, but a tough grader. However, I still liked going to the class.

Mr. Lotten is overall a good teacher. Although he does not make it easy, and buying the book and online program ILRN is mandatory (and costly). Be prepared when you go to class, and don't be afraid to talk, even if you are wrong, he is looking for improvement more than fluidity.

He is VERY enthusiastic. If you dont like that type of professor, then i would not recommend taking him.I did not mind his immense amount of energy. He is passionate about what he does. Spanish was not his first language, so its pretty easy for the average student to understand him. He grades like any spanish teacher.

He was extremely prepared and excited about his class. He was wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed learning from him.

He sincerely cares about his students. Most importantly, he spoke Spanish during class which greatly contributed to my learning. He is enthusiastic and encourages you to participate, but he does not force you. He was helpful and a fair grader. Recommend!

Professor Lotten is one of the best Spanish teachers I have ever had. He enjoys teaching and he is very knowledgeable on the language, and class was always interesting and fun. I suggest studying everyday in order to get a good grade. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and I can honestly say that he was one of the best Spanish teachers I've ever had.

Very enthusiastic, you can tell he loves to teach. Knows the material very well and is always prepared. Going to class is extremely important because you receive participation/homework points daily. Homework is from the book and some is online, it's pretty straightforward so it's easy points. Test are slightly challenging so just be sure to study!

One of the best teachers I have had. He makes learning fun and is very helpful. He speaks mostly Spanish. I learned more in this class than the previous two. He is a fair grader. I would recommend.

Really nice guy, and always so energetic and helpful. But you have to exert yourself, not a class to get an easy A.

Professor Lotten was a great person. He is literally always in a good mood. He brings his best attitude to campus and treats everyone fairly. Like all other spanish courses, there's the online homework and oral presentations, but he was always available for assistance. Very pleasant to be around and has the funniest laugh. Take him if you can.

He is probably one of the greatest teachers here at LSU. I had him my first semester and I loved it so much I had him again my second semester. He pushes you to do your best and he is very helpful and understand. Also, he isn't the one who makes the tests so don't blame him for that. He is a very good teacher and provides you with a lot of resource

I thoroughly enjoyed his class this semester. He is very enthusiastic about the subject matter and definitely makes the class entertaining. He is an EXCELLENT teacher. I highly recommend, i had a wonderful semester in this class.

Lotten is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is so enthusiastic about the course, and seems to genuinely care that students are getting something out of it. I feel like my language skills grew exponentially in his class. Would take any class he teaches in a heartbeat!!

Lotten is such an enthusiastic teacher! He is very kind and is always willing to help you if you ask him to. As long as you do the online hw and pay attention, you'll make a good grade. The only problem was that the class would sometimes be a chapter behind the online hw. Other than that, I would definitely take another Spanish class with him!

I took Mr. Lotten for 2 semesters and he was by far my favorite and most hands on teacher. He is very passionate about teaching and extremely open to answering any misunderstandings. Learning Span wasnt easy, but he made it much easier by being patient, enthusiastic and compassionate. If I wasnt done with spanish, I would take him a 3rd semester.

Lets get real, Spanish isnt easy. This class is basically two semesters of it in one, its a lot of work. You have to be willing to put forth the effort for a good grade. If you work hard, you will get an A or B. If you dont try, you WILL fail. Flash cards are key! Work for your grade in this class. He is not a tough grader on oral or compositio

Professor Lotten is the nicest guy ever. He is super caring about his students and likes to help you if you need it. With that being said, this class isn't an easy A but it's also not the hardest class I've ever taken. If you do your work and study just a little for the tests, you'll be fine. Definitely recommend taking him.

I loved his class! I was honestly late to class nearly every day(I'm a commuter)and he was way more understanding than I thought any professor would be. He cares about his students and their success. He's a very good teacher especially since 1152 covers two semesters of material. I'm taking him again next semester. Work hard cuz he's a tough grader

Professor Sheldon is probably one of the most energetic and hilarious professor's you'll ever have. The class is difficult at times, but he will help you with whatever you need. Not much English is spoken in this class. He grades participation hard so make sure you're always communicating in class. 100% RECOMMEND!!

1152 is a hard course, simple as that. The online homework and quest quizzes can be overwhelming and exhausting. But, Lotten tries hard to make it fun with acting out vocab words and making the class participate. Definitely show up because you wont have any idea whats going on if you dont. Hard class but not the worst ive been through.

Lotten is very personable and knowledgeable. He is very caring and has great attitude but make no mistake its go time once. you enter his room.

Maybe its because I took his class during the summer but Profesor Lotten is very caring and loves to laugh. He really wants you to do well. He is 100% the best Spanish professor I have ever had at LSU. He doesn't get mad or frustrated with you. He's patient and will help but only if you ask for it. He also doesn't embarrass you in front of everyone

I liked the way the professor taught the class with enthusiasm and kept the students engaged.

He's a great professor! He's really funny and makes the lectures interesting. However, you need to participate if you want a good grade. The main reason why he has so many bad reviews is because of the large amount of material required by the department. It's not his fault the class moves quickly, that's just the pace of SPAN 2101.

I really like him as a professor and he is super enthusiastic, but i feel like he would be more fit in an upper level class since he teaches entirely in spanish. The homework was a pain and the pop quizzes were an awful addition to the course. However, I know that it's the department that designs the class structure, so he's not the one to blame.

Professor Lotten was very passionate about spanish. It made it more interesting to learn the material. I think he was a great teacher. You have to attend every class, and you really have to participate. If you do those things, you should succeed. His tests were a lot like textbook practice. He is also very accessible outside of class.

I love Lotten I would honestly take him again. I highly recommend this class if you took Spanish in highschool for a couple of years but if you took like one or two years of Spanish maybe look for a different class. I loved Professor Lotten's class this semester! He is super kind, very funny and understanding if you have any issues. Don't get me wrong, the class is difficult but if you did well in your high school Spanish classes you should be fine. The oral and written exams are difficult but you'll learn a lot. DONT FORGET THE VHL HOMEWORK!! its important!

Very easy to stay awake in class because he is so animated and passionate.

I was really worried about this course because of the ratings but I honestly really enjoyed it. It's definitely a tough class but if you do your homework and participate, you'll do fine. The pop quizzes aren't really pop because he tells you to study the night before. He's very enthusiastic and makes sure you understand what's going on.

Professor Lotten's class is challenging but rewarding. The workload is heavy, but he is engaging and passionate. Using resources like Unstuck AI alongside the textbook can really help with study prep.

Bro is very lively and super fun, you won't fall asleep in class. If you want a class to slack off/ scroll, DONT TAKE. You have to participate, plus 3 oral exams with a partner. If really want to learn and develop your Spanish definitely take this class.Would have given a 5 but during dead week we had 2 quizzes and a written composition.
