Shelita is the greatest!! she is really cool and a lot of fun...i actually never wanted to miss a class. half the time we just talked about our social lifes. she doesn't tolerate missing homework tho...so make sure you do that and the papers and its a easy A
She talks a big game but her grading style is actually very easy. She is moody all the time and treats students like 5th graders. If you miss a class she will call you out the next time you are there.very annoying! Occasionally there are vocabulary tests which are a joke. Take her if its convenient to you.Easy A if you show up and spell correctly
Where did she come from? I think I know more than she does, and I only have a Catholic high school education! Take her class if you want to talk about meaningless stuff, or stay home and talk to your friends.
She is a pretty cool, down to earth teacher. She is a black woman and speaks the truth. She expects you to be in class before her and do all homework. If you do all homework assignments, she gives you an A regardless. Do all papers and study for vocab quizzes and you'll do fine in the class.
She is a very strict teacher but grades very easily. If you're running late to class, don't even bother going. It's not worth it.
Ms. Shaw makes you afraid to ask questions, doesnt explain papers well, and it seems like everyone in the class is nervous all the time. She can be the coolest lady, but she has mood swings. If your 5 minutes late don't even bother coming. There are some solid discussions, but it seems like they are all about race. She is a pretty easy grader.

She is not a terrible professor. to pass the class you have to do work. its not to extensive but the time and effort you put on it reflects upon your grade. she doesnt grade papers too much on criteria. just make it easy to understand and format it correctly and you will get c's all day.

I would NEVER say something bad about a teacher because of the amount of work that they gives, and I'm not some deadbeat that would just bad mouth the teacher because I was treated unfairly. Whenever she was having a bad morning she took it out on her students. She didn't leave her problems at home. Didn't really learn much from going to class, and she kept records on how many times you were late and absent.

this lady sucked. she was never on time for class if she even showed up but she demanded that her students be there every day. i hated her class you can only miss 3 days. DO NOT take this class she is the worst professor i have ever had.
She's a nice person, but her attendance policies are horrible. Three absences and you're out, even though she shows up 20 minutes late half the time (which she would count as an absence). Some of her assignments aren't explained very well, either.
Many students did not like her. Do not get on her bad side, or you will pretty much not get a good grade. I never got on her bad side and have not gotten below an A on a paper. She is nice as long as you respect what she asks for. She is very strict, but I would recommend her as a teacher.
I pay my own tution and therefore I like every other student in my awesome class I deserve respect. Hell anyone who shows you respect deserves the same. What are you pple talking about? Umm hello this is college and you think you can miss class and still pass? Just do what she asks of you and be a respectful adult! SHe is not as nearly as bad as what others are saying. Have an opinion but express it at the right time. If you have a concern, make an appt with her and ask her what you can do better

If you would make an appointment with her regarding your concerns, she'll hold it against you. She was always late to class, never on time, missed MANY classes. Definitely an easy class though.
She has to be one of my favorite teachers. This is college. Of course you have to come to class. I know she's always late but I think we all know we cant be. Just be respectful and yeah stay on her good side and you'll pass with an A. Oh, and she's really willing to help outside of class just don't be lazy and go to her office.
I took her class both 101 and 102 she is great. for the younger people that think that college is a place that you can come and go.... this is not the class for you! however, if you are egar to learn and want to be challegned and be want to learn this is the class for you! This teacher was probally the worst teacher in my opinion, not only is she hypocritical but she will sit and rant all class long about the dumbest things ever. I did not learn a single thing in her class and i showed up on time everytime. Her grading system is unfair, as she markes people 50% off on a essay simply for not photocopying one source.

She was a terrible teacher! She was ALWAYS late to class (twice by 45 minutes) and she yelled at EVERYONE who left...everyone else was too scared to. Using the books were rare but she would yell if you forgot it. The final was BS and so was all of the papers I HAVE NO IDEA how she is still a teacher..seriously DONT take her, shes scary and mean!

If this teacher followed her syllabus she would be dropped from the class. You can't miss more than 3 days, and if your late 3 times it's considered an absence. She hasn't showed up to class on time once since the beginning of the semester. She also likes to keep you in that classroom at least 5 minutes later than your supposed to get out.

Anyone who thinks this teacher is bad is either lazy or takes things to personal. She is hard and, at first, I'll admit she did come off as unreasonable, but she proved me wrong because everytime she saw the class, as a whole, struggling she helped us out majorly. She is very good teacher!!! Sometimes she's not clear but if you don't understand something,she is there to help you! In over all she's nice, joking around sometimes she got her mood swings.She keeps students till last min. or sometimes more!

I should also mention she likes to come on here, and write herself nice comments (hers are the double comments) the writing style is the same as hers. I was a 4.0 gpa student and she gave me a C for the same effort I gave in all my other classes. She also made another student cry in class and humiliated him.

Terrible teacher. She was flat-out rude to all her students and came aross as very prejudiced. She was was so bad that I almost considered dropping out of college because the way she treated people was not worth the misery in her class. Stay away and take another teacher! How Ms. Shaw is able to keep a job as a teacher is beyond me.
You do not learn anything in this class that is relevant to the Bible as Literature. She is rude, unclear in her instructions, and strict on attendance. Quite frankly I don't know how she still has a job. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Ms. Shaw was an amazing teacher. Love the class discussions. Directions for projects are sometimes unclear. Cover all your bases, if you are having any problems or questions talk to her and she will listen. Dont be late or miss any classes, unless previously notified. If you regularly cant make it to class on time or miss it, dont take her class.

Ms Shaw is really an all around good person. I had great discussion in that class and the paper topics were interesting. However, she is very hard to "read". She could be smiling at you and then shed start yelling. also, she forgets were human and make mistakes. her words can be hurtful sometimes but nothing horrible.

Ms Shaw is an EXCELLENT professor. Please disregard any negative comments towards this woman. For all the comments about her strict policy for tardiness and absences,wake up! This is college! My advice is dont be late/absence, do all your assignments 4 papers, follow rules for formating and citing and you'll be just fine. Have an opinion, its ok! She'll respect you more. WORST teacher I had.I missed class and called/emailed her to ask what we did that day. She NEVER called/emailed me back. The next class our first paper was due. The way she grades is pretty hard, if you did not get EXACTLY what she wanted you to get out of the lesson...you will not pass! If you miss more then 2/3 classes...you will not pass! If you do not participate in class...you will not pass. That being said, she is an AWESOME teacher! You leave her class wanting more! I would take her again!!
Ms. Shaw's class is an easy A if you do what she asks. You watch a video clip, write about it and then have a discussion. It's always fun and is so easy. Her papers can be hard at times, but she is not that hard of a grader. Took her com101 class and got an A & have her now in com102! If you participate and you do your work you will do fine!
I took Mrs. Shaw last semester and I had to take her this semester as well. She expects a lot and takes projects and papers seriously. If you do not plan on attending class and trying this may not be the course for you. Participation is also a must! PLan of talking a lot in discussions. Other than that she is a wonderful teacher!
The class is very easy but this professor can get pretty rude. She likes to make kids feel dumb and has unnecessary rules just for no reason. You miss more than 2 or 3 classes and you fail. She does keep you awake during class though, and I like the video discussions. She can be unpredictable too, she can laugh and then start yelling at you.

I took this teacher for com 101 my first semester at moraine. I'm currently a junior and this lady was something else. She can be extremely rude, she said a girl in my class looked like this one make actor. 2-3 absences you fail. Oh and you never know when she cancels class, you find out when you waste your time walking there for nothing.
I LOVED Mrs.Shaw. Yes, she is really tough and to the point - and she gives A LOT of attitude if you're rude, a punk, or a "gangster". She truly cares about her students, but won't give you the time of day if you don't want to learn. Happy to have met her. Easy A if you show up, talk and do your work.
Bible as Literature. We spent 95% of our class time on two things: Watching a news story, written response, and discussion; and watching Green Mile. I could have better handled what I feel was an unfair grade on my paper, if we had learned anything about the Bible. It was shocking how little learning went on in this class. She's not terrible.

It's college, not high school, so you have to be an adult and take responsibility for the work assigned. Keep all handouts, participate in discussion, and pay attention to what she says.
Hate her as a teacher. Everyday we watched a video, wrote a journal about it, and then discussed. The videos were controversial and NOT supposed to have a right answer/all based on opinion, yet she made it seem like only her way was right and made you feel stupid if you did not agree with her. Although she is a tough professor, she is amazing. All these kids complain because they want to be lazy and skate through college. Ms Shaw is a great professor and wants to make her students better people. Don't be lazy and you'll be fine.
Its an easy class you just have to stay on top of things. She gets a little annoying and wouldn't take her if I had the choice. She likes to talk a little too much about our personal feelings. I literally learned nothing because she was too concerned with the one or two students who couldn't keep up.
Good discussions but if she doesn't like where you are going she will cut in and talk for what seems like an eternity. I missed my maximum of 3 classes and everything I turned in were A's and I have a 76% in the class. DO YOUR JOURNALS! She misses a bunch of class and does not use blackboard and is very very very slow in replying to emails.

She'll lecture you on how you should never be late to class, yet she was late to class on a daily basis. You're not allowed to miss class for any reason or she'll fail you, yet she missed two classes in the semester I had her for. All we did in that class was write journals on news clips and good luck if your opinion didn't match hers.
She's nice face to face. However, if you ask a question about an assignment she makes you feel stupid. Her criteria is NOT clear on what she wants, then she gets mad if we question it. Pretty easy small papers, Journals daily, you HAVE to participate or you will not pass.
Regret taking her class. She doesn't use Blackboard, nor does she show you your grades. It's almost as if your grades are, you know, out there, and you have no idea what's going on with them. For some reason, participation in class discussions makes up a large portion of your grade (50%?), which is absurd. You won't learn anything about writing.
Ms. Shaw really was a roller coaster for me. It was a rocky start but in the end, I realized she does care. She went beyond textbook into real life. She talks to you like a peer. It was a no nonsense environment and I admired that. No cell phone use. Enjoyed discussions with the class and the assignments didn't cause too much stress.

No blackboard, so you'll have no idea what your grade is, or why. 50% of your grade depends on participating in irrelevant class discussion. Possibly the most disrespectful professor ever. AVOID.

Mrs. Shaw is a tough lady. She wasn't always clear on her grading criteria and very critical if you had a question. She was sometimes a little much but other than that Mrs. Shaw does seem to really care for her students and their opinions.
I LOVE Ms. Shaw's class. This is my first college semester and this class was my favorite. As long as you keep up with the work that she gives and participate in class then the class should be a breeze! I absolutely love her sassy personality. She actually cares too.
At first she wasn't bad but now she gets super crazy a kid was late by two min and she took him outside and screamed at him for 10 min. No tests but you have to participate or fail.

People really need to stop complaining about this teacher. The class flies by because we watch short clips everyday about videos/incidents that have gone viral. Varying from the Ferguson incident, to funny things you wouldn't even expect to talk about in a COM class. Funniest teacher you'll ever have and if you do your journal, you'll get an A/B.
She comes off as rude sometimes but when you get to know her she is actually very nice and understanding. There are only 3 essays during the entire semester but you have to write a full page journal everyday. The journals are very interesting and talk about everyday news. I highly reccommend.
Participation is SO SO SO important to her. She almost failed me because I didn't participate enough even though my grade before participation was almost a 100. She will call you out in front of the whole class and she did this almost daily. She's a sweetheart if you're a perfect student but if you mess up even on one little thing she isn't so nice
If you don't really participate in school then this isn't the class for you. everything is mostly pass or fail so if you're missing ONE thing she will fail you. Also very rude and sassy to the students. Will call you out for the littlest things and doesn't care about your feelings.

Don't take this class if you hate getting points taken off for mickey mouse type of things like font size and whether or not you number your examples. Honestly it's an easy A class. Literally all you have to do is show up. About 5 2-4page essays or quick speeches! No textbook. Funny teacher. People hate her because she calls people out on their bs such as walking in/out of class all day. Take her!!

I took her for summer school. The first day she came in and told us straight up how she was going to be. I was nervous but honestly she's old school. She's very straight forward and gives you great feedback! & if you get to know her she's actually very sweet! PARTICIPATE ... if you don't want then don't take her. she's not there to fail you !
If you want to spend the semester riddled with anxiety over whether your margins are perfectly spaced, take a class with Professor Shaw. She has this weird sense of grandiosity and uses it to embarrass people in class. I just thought she was rude. Definitely wouldn't take a class with her again and won't advise anyone else to either.

One of the worst professors I've ever had and definitely the rudest. Critiqued our first presentation in such a negative/harsh way. Called out people for being up there "shaking like leaves". Doesn't post grades online so although I got 90+ on every assignment, lack of participation resulted in a midterm grade of 50%. Had to withdraw. DO NOT TAKE!
I took this professor for a class and the class experience was GREAT! My bad experience came after class when I asked for a letter of rec. After having to remind her multiple times for weeks, she sent me a sub par letter with multiple mistakes the day before the application was due. Good professor but be weary of asking for letters of rec.
I took Com 102 class with her First off she is gone half of the class period She is very unclear with the way she wants things done Rude when a student is confused, makes them feel scared You will fail this class if you do not talk And she tells my class to not hold her back because we are her last class of the day and she wants to go home.
She is very rude and hypocritical. She is late every class period and one time i was late and we happened to walk in at the same time and she yelled at me for being late??? She's nice if you're on her good list but you need to participate! I do not recommend taking her, as she is very mean and unnecessarily rude.
Shelita is honestly my favorite professor Ive ever had. If you dont like talking, dont take this class. Journals are required & if u dont complete the entries, youll drop 2 letter grades. She only allows 4 absences, so if u plan on being absent, dont take the class. Shes my favorite though honestly. If u do what she asks, shell love you.

Ms. Shaw was one of the best professors I've had. She is so inspirational. She doesn't give lectures besides just our talks in class. I did not have her for COM, but her Women in Lit class. I love her. She really pushed me to face my issues with my mom in our "mother and daughter" unit. But PARTICIPATION MATTERS OR YOU CAN FAIL! Take her!!!!

She curses and comes in late to class which is incredibly unprofessional. She holds her students to a MUCH higher standard then to herself. Gave a friend of mine a LOR with grammatical mistakes. Professor Shaw is absolutely the worst instructor I have EVER had. Group discussion is mandatory. If you don't talk in group discussion, you get an F in participation. Class discussion is fine until you have an opinion that differs from hers, and she talks down to you like you're an idiot. Constantly late, extremely rude, made me feel small.
She is a teacher that you shouldn't play with. She is amazing and caring if you show her respect and don't play with her she will love you and respect you as well.

I dropped out the day after I had her. I didn't like how she said good morning & kept repeating it until we all said it back. She is nice but wants everything a very specific way. Like, notes have to be in pen & you have to explain to her why you were absent one day. If you're an introvert (like me) get out before you can't. She said it herself.

So sad how she treats students - and so disappointing how Moraine Valley allows this to continue, from the ongoing attitude through the years from the related comments. Ms. Shaw is by far one of the most inspiring professors that I've had throughout the course of college. She is absolutely strict. I love strict; reason being, it is what we all will deal with throughout the course of life. Ms. Shaw is absolutely caring and will come to an understanding as long as you put in the effort and communicate with her.
I had her for COM 102 and I loved her class. Yes she is strict and actually makes you work for your grade, but that's what your suppose to do. Follow directions, do not be late or miss class.

Always be on time to her class because even though she is always 15 minutes late she might surprise you one day. She is a tough teacher but does it for a good reason. Doesnt accept any late homework and expects high standards from everyone.

I personally cant believe the amount of low ratings Ms. Shaw has. She is a amazing teacher, she is tough but it helps in the long run. She is one of the few teachers at Moraine that taught me something! This will not be an easy class to pass you have to work for your grade. But if you show up and participate you will be perfectly fine.
She graded 2 of the 15ish assignments we had at the beginning and then left the last week of the course to grade everything. She would talk about how stupid the other classmates were when they asked questions on the assignments. She never responded to my emails. The class was easy and just busywork. Just don't ask her questions about assignments.
Only in Week 5 and this has been the most unprofessional teacher I have ever had. Doe great by embarrassing, belittling, stressing and scaring you. I have never felt so degraded and small from someone who is supposed to be TEACHING ME! I only learned that my opinion can be wrong. If you disagree, you were one of her favorites. Professor Shaw is unprofessional. Not only did we receive about 15-20 assignments that entire semester, but she only graded 2. She decided to grade all of our assignments a week before finals. She does not respond to emails, she does not offer rubrics to essays, and I would not be surprised if she used a number generator to decide our essay grades.
Professor Shaw is by far one of the only teachers I've ever had, that makes me feel like she DOES NOT care about teaching. She puts in grades SUPER last minute and gives you bad grades even when you followed instructions. She uses the excuse that she goes through tough times when she doesn't feel like answering any of your emails or comments. AVOID
One time she told our class to meet in the library, forgot to go to the library and after 20 minutes finally emailed someone in the class that we were supposed to go to the classroom. When we finally arrived she yelled at the class that we were disrespectful for not figuring it out and wasting her time for not going to the class.

Professor Shaw, there's a lot to her, she makes you work very hard for your grade, and when you try to email her something for clarification she replies with very rude statements and sometimes makes you feel dumb. she grades everything so tough and truly makes you work for your grade. I dont really understand the low grade for Shaw. She was an amazing teacher. Show up, participate, do the work and youll be fine. Literally read a few chapters a week and wrote a paper on it or answered some questions. Easy. I was in person for 3 weeks before Covid hit and she was late every day. Other than that, shes great. Give her a shot.
If I knew she was rated this low I wouldn't have taken her class. If you do your work, you'll do fine. However, if you have ANY questions don't bother asking. She will, like others said, make you feel stupid and complain about the questions. All she did during our mandatory classes was complain and yell into the mic. She made me cry on occasion.

She is always trying to encourage her students, you can tell she cares. Im not sure why she got a low rating but I would definitely take her class again!

Yes she can be very honest with her class but in all fairness, that was exactly what was needed for the class I was in. No one showed up for class on the first day with the book required for the class. She gave everyone opportunities to complete assignments. You will like her style of teaching if you can handle constructive criticism.

She was cool as a person, but if you ask for help then you won't get any. If you ask a "dumb" question, she typically uses the phrase, "I truly believe you already know the answer." She got the lectures across pretty well, but talking to her was like walking on eggshells. If you do well in class, she will be super nice when you reach out to her.

Many people will say that she is a hard person but its for the best. If you can take criticism, then you will be fine. She is the sweetest person and I will most definitely be taking her COM 102 in the fall.
Reading all these reviews, I was shocked but understood them. Professor Shaw is a tough teacher. But she pushes us to do our best. I made a mistake and missed responding to another students response and I emailed her and owned up to it. She reopened the assignment for me to do it. I respect her 100%.
Good luck getting access to this teacher outside of class. My first major issue with her is that she is very difficult to get a response from, will leave online classes for days, + won't even respond to messages weeks in advance regarding the final. My second major issue with her is that she is not respectful at all. She is very condescending.
Had such a awful attitude right off the bat and singled out a student for being late when it was the first day of school, obviously people are figuring their way around campus. She only allows 4 absences and she doesn't do excused absences, if you're in a hospital it'll be unexcused. She talked to us like we were children, I dropped the class
The class is easy but if you can not deal with bad vibes/disrespect do not take her class. Class is easy to pass but hard to concentrate when she crushes your positive energy and try to make you release a bad vibe like her. I recommend not taking her class especially when you have to agree with whatever she says or else you will be on her bad side.

She will give you an assignment one day and explain it to you and then the next time you come to class she will tell the whole class how nobody listened and that everyone is getting a failing grade. I finished Professor Shaw's class with a very high grade and had no personal problems with her, with that being said Professor Shaw's class was unnerving to say the least. She would show up to class ten-plus minutes late constantly and didn't even notify us on one occasion that she wouldn't be showing up. This class was not enjoyable. Don't take it
I personally didn't have a problem with this teacher, but omg be ready for the slander. If you're not a mentally tough person do not take her or you would probably cry. She will make you feel stupid for any question you have as if you were supposed to understand her words from the first shot. She will make you overthink the smallest things on hw.
Professor Shaw provides tough love, which I appreciate to some extent. However, at times her feedback can feel excessively harsh, and her constant yelling during class becomes off-putting. While I understand her desire for students to excel, her strictness sometimes feels unwarranted, as she may give a zero on an assignment despite hours of effort.

Class was honestly useless. We just sat there and gabbed, we didn't read a single book, she was late at least half the time, and we literally went to see movies unrelated to the class at all. She is… a more progressive teacher to say the least. I learned more on topics than I actually did on essay formatting.

She covers a really cool book that I ended up getting my own copy of. One of my favorite Moraine professors.

Overall she's a great teacher. She cares about your education. If you put in effort in the class, you will succeed. Honestly, she challenged me in a way where I was motivated in passing her class. She may be frustrating to deal with some times, but she really wants the best for you. This class is balanced in discussions, readings, and essays.
Professor Shaw has a clear grading criteria. Make sure to refer to your syllabus before you do your assignments. She motivated me to work hard. As long as you put effort in her class, attend and participate, you will do well. She comes off strong at first, but she really cares about you succeeding. It felt like a high school class. She gets angry when you ask questions. She can teach but she is lacking empathy towards her students.
Ms. Shaw is a one of a kind professor. She can be tough in the beginning but as you get to know her more you realize she truly cares for her students. She sort of reminds me of Gene Cousineau in the show Barry, in how he is able to lift up his students morale and break them down and rebuild them to fulfill their greatest potential.
If you care for your grade and value your money, don't take her. Very strict and rude, makes the classroom a hostile environment as asking a question feels more like an execution. She gives vague instructions then punishes you for not understanding and refuses to elaborate. You don't learn, you survive.
I am pretty particular of who I elect a great teacher. At first, I thought Professor Shaw was going to be great. She is tough, but caring. As the semester progressed, I noticed hostility, public shaming for asking a question, unnecessary rudeness, and unclear criteria for some assignments. While I did well in her class, it was oddly stressful.
Professor Shaw is someone who genuinely does want to see you do well. However she makes you not want to show up to class a lot. She will humiliate you and its extremely hard to ask her questions because you never get a real response. Her class is really organized and outside of lecture she is a really nice person. Only take her if you have to
The rules in her class were ridiculous. Assignments needed to be perfect or else no credit was given. Instructions on assignments were often very vague and she refused to provide clarification when we asked. There were some specific students she was fine with answering questions for but for the rest of us it was public humiliation in class.
