I personally loved this class and thought this teacher was great. I would recommend it for people were are seriously about school and learning, but not for an easy A.

Dr. Aguilar is a fairly hard but great teacher. She has tons of clinical experience outside the classroom and brings that into the lecture to make it much more interesting. If you're not a baby (i.e. whiner) and are ready to work hard and WANT to learn you will love her class!!! Don't come in expecting hand holding - this is science! REOMMENDED!

I learned so much in this class. The instructor was great and very helpful, but the lab tech for the class was not really available. I would definitely recommend this class.

Dr. Aguilar is very knowledgeable about microbiology, and I thought that her lectures were very interesting and informative. I did not see the lab assistant throughout the whole semester, but Dr. Aguilar was always around to help during labs. I recommend her as an instructor, but be prepared to put in some effort to do well in this class.

Fun instructor who takes a very difficult subject and makes it understandable. I wish all my instructors were as dedicated.

I loved Dr. aguilar! I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs to take micro. Class is challenging and does take a lot of effort, but she teaches the material very well. My favorite class ever! If you are are used to taking fluff classes you may think it is too hard.

Dr. Aguilar is a great instructor. She lets you know what will be on the tests and she gives you a take home exam. A not so easy class but if you stick with it, you'll do fine! Her lab assistant Laurie is not that helpful though...if you ask her a question, she will tell you to look it up in the lab book! Overall, a great class to take!

She is an excellent teacher. Very hard but good. Study study study. Very hard to read but she cares.

Great class loved every bit of it! Dr Aguilar really enjoys this stuff and it shows. Also wanted to Add I didn't have a problem with lauri lab asst at all I thought she was very helpful if you asked her. Its a very independent lab as it should be.

Love the class, but it can be a tough subject in and of itself, I think that is why people struggle, its def. not the prof. The exams are multiple choice, vocab and maybe some diagrams, not too hard if you keep up with the homework and do the study guide-all of it!!!

Shes a fun teacher.I took this class before w/a different teacher and dropped after midterms.Shelly makes it fun, interesting, and not so hard.Her and the TA, basically give you the test on a platter with their study guides.Do the homework, read the chapters, know the diagrams!Ths is not a skate class!You have to be semi-smart to pass-not that hard

I absolutely LOVE this teacher.She is funny, helpful,caring,happy,enjoyable, the list could go on for years. I have never met such an AWESOME teacher.She took over our summer class and missed her own family vacation to teach our class.she truely cares about her students and the profession!The best teacher by far, TAKE HER!! :)

Dr. Aguilar kept her lectures interesting and lively. She is not pretentious and makes everyone feel comfortable. She is definitely one of the best instructors I've ever had. Laurie was also wonderful...anyone who says differently just doesn't want to work for their grade. You get what you put into it...nothing more, nothing less.

Shelley was by far the most sincere teacher I've ever encountered, and here's why I say that. I was scammed out of my book before class started and I didn't have the money to buy another copy, I told her about it and she lent me a brand new copy to study from! I ended up with an A in the class solely because of her. Thank you Shelley!

Good teacher. Has alot of experience in feild. Hard to get a straight answer out of her. If you study as she requires, you will get an A.

Dr. Aguilar was very helpful to us students, she told us what she expected of us and how hard we would have to work. If we didn't work as hard as she told us to then we didn't get the grade we would have hoped for.

Excellent professor. I learned so much in this class and enjoyed it so much I am thinking about changing my major. Dr Aguilar really cares about her students

This class was taught by two professors and it was the best course I have ever taken. Dr Aguilar actually taught me something. Definitely recommend.

Shelly & Laurie are great tough clas but enjoyable

Shelly is an awsome teacher. Expect to work really hard in this class, and don't take any other really hard classes like A&P with this class. There is alot of memorization in this class.

It was a really fun class. I learned a lot and thought she was a superb scientist. TA Laurie was excellent and very helpful. I had tons of fun doing the work. Thanks guys!!!!

Special Projects. She could have really nailed me on attaining my recency for Micro but she didn't. I thank her for that. I am on my way to my Nursing career thanks to her! She truly loves her subject and wants you to succeed. She responds to emails and is available to talk.

Took fa08 got an A. There are quizzes at the beginning of lect. AND lab. can be up to 10pts in a day so be on time. They can hurt ur grade. Lab TA kinda rude but tolerable. Her pwrpoint has all u need and anything else is in lect. Xtra credit on each test for study guide chap. turned in. tests are 3-5 chaps she adds them as percent on final score.

Awesome teacher! She's really a nice person. Attendance is a must because there are quizzes everyday. Gives you study guides for the test. Final was a bit tough. She left halfway during the semester though and we had Mrs. Calhoun. She's also great. I'm going to miss this class...

Dr. Aguilar (Shelly) is a kind, intelligent and caring professor. She is very approachable and fair. She "feels" your pain and shares in your "joys"! This class is best for those who learn everything from lecture. Grade based on chapter tests, labs and "unknown" bacteria project. T/A is tough to take. High-stung & creates nervous/chaos before labs.

Dr. Shelly is a fantastic teacher. Class has a lot of material so come prepared and study. She answers questions clearly and gives you lots of information so take notes or print the power point. Great class.

I never thought I'd make it through Micro alive! It's a difficult class that requires a lot of attention and studying, but Dr. Aguilar is so helful and passionate about what she teaches. she wants her students to enjoy it as well. Iclicker quiz before every lab & lecture, 4 exams/2lab exams and a final. Take it one day at a time! u'll be fine! :)

This is a very difficult class to take but it is possible to pass. Study every day as there are several short quizzes before class meetings. The lab are helpful as the tests are tough. She is a very good instructors in explaining the material.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this class. Shelley is great! She loves the subject matter and is very clear. There are no tricks - all material for tests is on study guides and her lecture. Lots of clicker quizzes so you get tested on the material as you go. Lab asst. personality not my style - pretty hectic. Otherwise - great class.

Fun class but you must work hard and dont miss. Powerpoint, iclicker, lab quizzes, 4 exams plus final and 2 lab exams. Dr. A is a great teacher with alot of teaching and hospital experience

One of the best instructors I've ever had in my many years through nursing school. My favorite class to date! She is amazing and Laurie/lab gals are wonderful! BUT they only want to help those who help themselves!..not an easy A by any means! Takes effort on student's part.

Just finished with the final in her class. If you want the "A" you have to read, pay attention, and give it the extra effort in class. I would highly recommend her if you need Bio125. AWESOME TEACHER!!!!

Awesome Professor! Dr. Aguilar has TONS of real life experience in the field which makes the subject so much more interesting. You have to study, you have to attend class/lab everyday, but you can get an A. The lab TA is annoying, but tolerable.

I took this class with a lab partner from another class at MSJC and we both loved the class. Dr Shelley encourages everyone to work together and help each other out. She was my favorite teacher at MSJC. You're awesome Dr. Shelley!

Dr. Aguilar is awesome. I cant explain the love that she has for her job. She is knowledgeable,smart,fun,and a great person to be around. I enjoyed coming to class Mon and Wed just to be under her leadership. I thought Slepski was the best,no she is. I recommend her. You will not regret it. Great teacher. Very helpful and a pleasure to listen to. Attendance is a must for lecture and lab quizzes. Every point counts. Reading chapters beforehand is helpful. Definitely would take a class with her again.

She is such a great instructor, I learned so much. I didn't think I would like the class beforehand but she is so interesting and fun. The TA is the exact opposite. Rude, lazy, unhelpful! Oh yeah did we even have one it didn't seem like it.

Dr. Aguilar was great. She really explained the info. Make sure to print out power points; they were essential to my success. She gives study guides which are suuuuper helpful. The lab practicals weren't awful, just make sure to study. I created flashcards with the info on the back and pics of organisms on the front. The research paper wasn't awful

She is always there for you and grades the tests and papers on the same day. She has a medical background and makes the class super interesting. Highly recommend her but be prepared to work. It is a hard class!

What a great experience, I actually learned things that I can take with me in my nursing career. Great instructor!

Dr. Aguilar has a medical background which makes lectures and labs easy going. However, she makes you work for it. Exams wasn't that hard, just study! Labs are fun but really understand it because the project will consist of everything you learned in lab. She makes sure students understand the subject. I highly recommend her & would take again!

Dr. Aguilar is extremely knowledgeable because of her medical background. Students can learn a lot from her. She genuinely cares about her students. She is funny and tells interesting stories during her lectures. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who wants/needs to take a Biology course.

She's was a good professor would take her class again. You do have to work to get a good grade. Prepare to read and have alot of mastering assignments. Overall she was good

Dr Aguilar has many years of experience in hospitals. she brings hands on experience, and is very knowledgeable on the subject. expect i-clicker quizzes every class about 10 points, attendance is a must. hard class, but she makes it fun and tolerable. great professor!

She made a difficult subject fun and understandable plus she was funny and enthusiastic. She definitely loves the subject and it shows. I love the fact that she has a medical background and keeps the class relevant and interesting. But I must admit that it was a hard class, be prepared to work as the other raters also suggest.

Great, fair, nice, teacher; difficult class. TIME CONSUMING-15+ hours/wk studying. 4 exams & final; reqd homework for ea. lecture chapter, quizzes & assignments for ea lab topic; lab practicums, scientific paper. Go to class-there are clicker questions & she mentions important info for tests. extra credit given. Work hard and an A is possible.

One of the best professor hands down. She's humble, realistic, approachable and down to earth. She relates the material to the real world and it's pretty interesting if you like microbes. Book is not necessary and able to get an A in the class if you show up to lecture and study lecture slides. 4 exams, 2 practicums, lab report and lab project.

Hands down the greatest teacher ever. Highly recommend if you are entering the nursing field or any science field at that. The course itself is hard and requires work but Dr. Aguilar makes it easy to understand. I am by far the worse when it comes to studying but if you attend class have a decent memory you should pass! She's super tight!

She is an amazing professor and would recommend her to anyone that needs microbiology. You do need to read the book. Shes very clear on what she will be testing on so as long as you put in effort you should get an A. 10/10

Dr. Aguilar is the best professor you can take for Micro! I am so lucky she came back this year and that I was able to get into her class. Micro is brutal!! That is a fact!! However Dr. Aguilar made it so easy to follow and was always there to answer questions if needed. This class is A LOT of work, so be prepared!! Micro isn't to be taken lightly!

Very nice, she responds to emails very quickly and is helpful. The online for Covid sucks, no live zooms all pre recorded you basically teach yourself. Labs have a lot of issues due to being at home and not a lab environment warm enough to grow things. Overall very rough online but nice professor
