Very hard and fast speed. Hard to get the notes. Very very hard grader.
Talks FAST, difficult subject to grasp even if you get Sneary to teach it. But Shelley's section managed to average higher than Sneary's section.
she was a fast lecturer..bring a tape recorder..or better yet dont take notes in your notebook. bring your book and highlight the key points..so when you study you can just go back to that. nice person..will slow down and clarify if you just ask her to.
This class is very difficult=a filtering class. Bust your ass and hope to god you can get higher than a C. Buy a digital recorder, download it and playback in slow motion. This is the only way I was able to get all of what she said. Could use a midterm review. Not enough to just say "study chp 1-7."
The subject is hard enough...She makes it even harder with her fast talking. Everything goes by so fast that you find yourself lost and sleepy.
Difficult class, just make sure you go back and look at ALL the figures she mentions in class! Study things in flow chart styles, she likes lists! GOOD LUCK! ha
Cargill is a very knowledgeable teacher and a very fast talker. Bring a tape recorder cuz you'll need it! She is usually helpful when students have a question. Material is very difficult to grasp unless you read the book and understand it. Sample tests will help a lot especially for each exam
Talks fast. Very hard grader. Yup, NO curve.
very knowledgeable but no sense of control or compassion for students when lecturing. buy a tape recorder, w/out it you'll fail. she doesnt know how to lecture and talks as fast as humanly possible in order to make you crap your pants every class while trying to take notes. idk if sneary is that much better, but dont take her if you dont have to.
SUPER HARD material, it makes it worse when she talks 200 miles/hour. The text is crap (not written well) so much detail it will make your brain explode. No reviews (exams), had no idea where to begin to study. Not possible to study effeciently for exams. SJSU tutor for this class is worthless. If you HAVE TO take this, take Sneary. Talks normal.
very hard class!!! go to a community college if you want a good grade. I passed with a C. you have to study over and over until u get it. bringing a voice recorder would be helpful. she talks way too fast. I don't recommend that u take alot of classes be
there's no way to keep up unless you bring a voice recorder...i couldn't keep up typing on my laptop, couldn't keep up even if i had read the book beforehand. she's a speed demon when it comes to lectures.
Very hard. Don't bother taking notes coz she talks way too fast. Bring a recorder. Here's how I passed: During lecture, open your book and follow along w/ a highlighter not a pen. Much faster. For nursing majors, expect the same when taking pathophysiology but even worst. Goodluck.
You will have to learn on your own for this class. Although Cargill talks fast, you should still attend her lectures because she tells you what you need/don't need to know for the exams. Her exams are very straightforward. Don't be overwhelmed by the material in the book. If you read the book, everything will make more sense to you. STUDY EARLY!
she talks way too fast! i stopped taking notes but instead highlight the book as she goes along since all her lectures are directly related to the pictures. tests are hard and tricky. u have to literally understand the concepts to catch her in her confusing games. study early and often.
This is a difficult class no matter who teaches it - it requires a lot of time. Take notes, record the lecture, fill in your notes and read the book. Her tests come straight off her notes.
Tape her lectures. Best bet: don't take over 12 units and try not to take other hard classes. Ideally, you should read the book and transcribe her lectures; however, I focused more on the book. Don't miss lectures, she tells you what you should know. Tests are very tricky so you must know your stuff in and out. Very stressful class!
Physio involves plenty of material regardless of the prof. This alone makes it difficult. Tests are all mult-ch and are strongly based on the lecture material. I rewrote my notes directly from my voice recordings, and totally helped to pull me through. A's are hard to achieve but are totally possible nonetheless. You reap what you sew holds true!
One of the best professors at San Jose State! The course is intense, but if you study hard, you can get an A. There's a curve. The material is very complex, but Dr. Cargill is very generous with her time and even offers help via email. I recommend recording the lectures, which are fast-paced and packed with information that shows up on the exams.
This class is the hardest class I have taken. I got an A. Here's how I did it: I read the book. I read the book over and over again until I understood the material. I missed half the lectures because of work. But I made up for it by spending lots of time with the text. If you know what's in the text then you are golden for the exams.Good luck
She is one of the best teachers ever!! No matter what anyone says, its not that hard to do well in the class. This class is very hard and requires a lot of work and its extremely hard to get an A in (I had to work my ass off for it). BUT-- it is very easy to get a C because about a 50% is a C. DEFINATELY GO TO OFFICE HOURS FOR HELP
she is terrible!! she talks waaaay to fast and grades waaaay too hard. Expects you to know too much in a short time and her multiple choice questions are tricky. she trys to confuse you. TALKS TOOOO FAST!!! take it over summer at a JC
Physio has a lot of info but she rushes through it nonetheless. Nice enough lady (reminds me of my mom), but not the best lecturer in the world. A few tips: Record lectures, take TONS of notes (90% of exam Q's are straight from lecture), and STUDY!!! She will trick you on exams! Generous curve, you can easily get a C. I managed to get a B.
SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TAKE THIS CLASS AT A JC! she talks WAY too fast, and doesn't seem to care if the material is understood. The lab tests are ridiculously graded, and the lecture tests are unnecessarily tricky and awkwardly worded. This is a lower division bio class and treated as if it were an upper division. Save your money and time.
Physiology is a lot of hard work and Professor Cargill does her best to help you understand it. I recommend that you bring a tape recorder to class (she will talk fast), and bring your book and highlight everything she covers. The class is hard but if you study hard and put a lot of work into this class, an A will be achieved. Don't be intimdated!
dude she talks hella fast. i gave up taking notes by hand, just brought a highlighter and highlighted everything she says in the textbook because she pretty much reads notes taken right out of it. she's not a bad professor, this subject is just hard to understand and memorize in the first place.
This class had a lot of information, but if you study and actually understand the material inside and out, you WILL be able to get an A. Gives very generous curve.
BE AWARE THIS IS A DIFFICULT CLASS... U VERY MUCH HAVE TO STUDY THE NOTES, THE BOOK (IN DETAIL) LISTEN TO HER LECTURES. I WORKED HARD, BUT ONE THING I DIDNT LIKE ABOUT HER WAS SHE'S NOT UNDERSTANDING, LABS ARE GRADED (BAD)... OVERALL TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE OR JUST END-UP WITH A C OR LOWER. TO BE HONEST I FEEL BAD FOR ALL YOU HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
I have never heard anyone lecture as fast as Dr. Cargill. Forget taking notes by hand; you will need a laptop and a tape recorder to keep up. There is simply too much info. Exams, especially the lab exams, require you to know the info in depth. Curve is generous. Labs are required but pretty boring. Take this class at a community college. G
if you don't have to take this class dont...it's super hard and requires your all of your attention, I took her for lecture lab and seminar which had it's up, but also it's downs...she talks fast and she knows it but does not stop...she is really approachable so that helps but the class is hard...I failed and I have to retake it and it's only offer
The lady talks faster than the short distance your pen can travel. A tape recorder is a MUST for this class. You must read the book over again & again until you fully understand the concept. Attending lecture is priority so don't miss them or you'll be a disadvantage on her tests. The class was the hardest for me but I managed to pass.. phewWWW
very hepful teacher, made complicated procedures seem easy
This is utterly sad. She is the only Bio66 lecture teacher available at SJSU and her tests are quite difficult. You need to record her lectures and bring a laptop if you want to take her notes and have info. flow through your brain at the same time. The lady is much too detailed oriented to the point where she is caught in her own world.
Shes hard, but its not impossible to get an A. Your best bet is to take the textbook to class and take notes right next to the paragraphs & pictures. Her test questions come straight from the book & her practice exam questions. Read each chapter and make sure you understand each picture she talks about!
I was really scared when I read the comments here...but believe me, you will get an A. It's really HELPFUL if you bring text to class, record her lecture because she talks faster than your sport car, highlight everything she talks in text, review practice exams, many test Questions are from those. For LAB, study lab handouts, seminar note, question
Warning: CLASS IS TOUGH. She will separate the children from the men. Cramming will not work for this class, if you want to do well. Most important thing is to UNDERSTAND the physiology from point A to Point B COMPLETELY. Do this, you will get an A. The book is a MUST. Class is by curve, final is cumalative. GOOD LUCK. This was my hardest earned A.
bio66 was one of the hardest classes ive ever taken but if you put in the hard work it'll definitely show. read before class otherwise the lec will go right over your head. i took notes right in the book and highlighted as she went along and it helped soooo much! record lectures =] really nice teacher and always open to questions
Hard class but it is NOT impossible to get an A. Professor Cargill is approachable. Just go to her office hrs. if you need help. Read the book before going to class and don't wait till the exams.
bring book to class & highlight. if u are confused during the lect just read the book.has VERY generous curve! she's not approachable but lab ta's are. dont take her for ur lab. work on the study guides early. i worked hard and got an A.
3 lect/3 lab exams, quizzes, final HARDEST class I've EVER taken! I read and still got an F on the first test! I managed to pass the class with a B though. Reading before class is a MUST, otherwise you won't be able to follow the lecture. Tips: read, record/transcribe lectures, make sure you understand the labs, go over each figure in the book.
Difficult class- some say one of the toughest on campus! Spend 25 hours a week studying, record all lectures, understand the functionality of labs and know that there will be lecture material on lab tests. Cargill requires a great deal, you leave well prepared for other bio courses and health science fields! Great, tough class.
Speaks way too fast, very unhelpful and never takes time to teach anything.. just shoves us through the material. She'd rather do the procedures herself then to teach us how to do it. I get the feeling she drinks too much coffee because she's so hyper and her eyes are always WIDE open. I've never known someone to be so active yet so unproductive.
don't take this class with her. she is tough. she not so good at helping you. theres a lot of reading. theres a quiz in lab every week. her 3 exams and the final were the hardest exams i have ever had and i am a straight A student. well i was now. she gives old exams as study guides but they are helpless. take this class with someone else if you ca
COMMUNITY COLLEGE IS AN OPTION!! MY 2 CENTS. HARD TEACHER. EVERYTHING GOES TOO FAST. SAVE YOURSELF FROM THE MISERY OF HELL FROM THIS PERSON.
Before coming to this class, I was an A/B student. I never had a grade below a B, but thanks to Cargill my GPA is ruined. Bottom line: Take it at a JC. Physiology is hard enough, but when you have Cargill it's like she's pushing you down a cliff. Spare yourself.
Bio 066 is definietly a very challenging class in general, I've taken it at both a JC and at state with her and passed both. Be prepared to work your butt off. Take good notes, attend ALL lectures and forming a study group helps alot! lecture exams are based of lectures all mult ch, and lab exams are based off seminar and are mostly all fill in
This is one of the hardest classes at SJSU but it is possible to survive and even pull off an A. You have to be dedicated and study everyday. Go to all lectures and seminars, record her, read the book and VISIT HER OFFICE HOURS. She is really helpful and nice. Lecture tests are all out the book and her lectures, lab is ALL seminar notes. Goodluck!
Dr. Cargill is an excellent professor. Don't scare yourself into not taking this class. Those who did not succeed in this class did not put the amount of work necessary into it. If you want to do well: record her lectures, read the chapters and attend every lecture/seminar and you will get an A.
If you have all the time in the world to study and re-listen to all lectures, then an A is possible. Recording her lectures is a must! She is pretty much a walking version of the textbook and I found it easier to read the book after listening to her fast voice at x0.8 speed. Take this class if you are determined and have good study habits.
I memorized everything out of the book 3 hours before the tests, and got over 100% in the class because of the curve. Teacher is useless, but go to class to note the diagrams she shows...it makes last minute textbook cramming alot easier. I only went 25% of the time, so I actually sweated a little sifting through 100+ pages of text, lol.
She has to be one of the best teachers I've ever had.I'm not going to lie, it's a tough class but because Cargill is so enthusiastic and personal it makes the class that much more interesting and fun.
The worse teacher I ever had. She speaks way to fast where you cant even write down key points in time. She makes you feel degraded and dumb if you ask her questions. She needs to understand not everyone is up to her level. Lecture is base off multiple choice and lab is off MC, short and long answers that have to be specific. Avoid her at all cost.
This professor was very good and very challenging. Record the class and study a lot if you want to get an A or a B!
bio 124: Do not take her class if you do not have more than 8 hrs to study per week, if not more. She is very smart and knows her material. She speaks too fast for average people. Despite lots of studying, my grade is a C-, after the curve. 55% is class average; no curve. Go to her office hours. It will help.
(1) speaks too fast (2) slides do not aid her lecture (either little info or no slides to reflect what she is saying) (3) 40+ chapters covered (4) exams: class avg (60/135, 55/135, no cls avg. given for 3rd). She made highest score = 100%~ no curve. (120, 102, 108). 1/2 class = F
worse teacher ever. i asked her to slow down once and she said she can`t because she thought we were behind. i put so much time studying for the class only to fail.
Avoid taking her, there is no curve in the class. there is just way to much information to cover with only 3 exams. If there were more exams, I think the class would have done better. A "proper" study guide would have been helpful!!
So HARD! She wants SPECIFIC answers on exams. HUGE amount of info to study before each test. A lot of exam questions really are based off her of her lectures though. Another plus is that she records her lectures (she might not do that anymore). All exam averages were an F, meaning at least half the class failed. It's so sad....
She's very enthusiastic about teaching. Take at least 10+ hours studying each week or don't bother taking this class. Don't expect to just study off lecture slides and get an A. You need to READ THE WHOLE CHAPTER before class. I'm not the smartest person out there, but I aced my exams for being 1) patient and 2) hardworking. You can do it too.
Dr. Cargill is a GREAT professor. The class is a hard class, bottom line. She did an amazing job explaining everything and she was always helpful and available in office hours. There is a lot of material and this is not a class you can get away with passing without knowing the material. Record the lectures, read the text, and TRY HARD to do well
I only had her for seminar, and for such a hard class, she taught it really well. I didn't really like her persay though. Good for the class.
I had her for physio seminar, and she goes through the material really fast and talks at the speed of light. Something about her talking made me anxious and made sure that I was awake and alert all through class to catch everything she says.
She talks very fast. She is unorganized. When she talks about her husband's resturant, she talks slow so that everyone understands, but when she teaches, it is as if she does not want people to understand. She is not a good hard professor. She does not breakdown the material and help the class to better understand. She wants straight memorization.
She has memrized one big physiology book without understanding it. Her teaching shows that she has memorized, and not really understand the material. She does not know the proper way of explaining. Very unorganized, talks very fast and covers the material very fast. She got fired from UC Davis perhapse because of this. SJSU should not had hired her
I went to class with the love for physiology, but I saw the reallity of her teaching. She has memorized a book, without really understanding any of it. She has no interest for teaching the class. She talks so fast as if she has ADHD and can not focus. She can not organize the material like other teachers. I don't know why SJSU highered her.
At first, I noticed that she talked fast, but I was sure I would be fine, because I work very hard. But the more I stayed in class, the more I understood, that she is different from other teachers. She does not want the class to learn. She is like a two faced coin. She smiles and pretends to be helpful, but she easily gives C- or lower to everyone
She wants you to know every little detail of the major systems, from the neurotransmitters to the big picture. Her exams are mostly short answer and essay, so you have to practically memorize the textbook. The reading is very dense. Avoid her if you can. Horrible class, Horrible teacher, you probably won't get an A unless you are gifted.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! , EXAM ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE.
She is extremely hard, but extremely fair. Her exams reflect what is presented in class, but you must study every single detail and must present your short answer questions with key words/statements IN THE CORRECT ORDER (she emphasizes). Record her lectures (playback to study), memorize nearly all the figures, VISIT OFFICE HOURS (EXTREMELY helpful)
Dr. Cargill is a great professor. She is always ready help answer questions. The class is not easy, but it is manageable if you stay on top of the material. RECORD THE LECTURES and use them as your guide to studying the textbook.
SERIOUSLY THE HARDEST CLASS EVER! TAKE IT AT A COMMUNITY!
This class is super hard. Her exams are very tricky [ie. D) A&C E) A&B&C]. She is really not helpful at all; if you ask her a question in front of everyone, she will make you feel dumb with her response. She talks very fast, so record her lecture. Even then, she pretty much regurgitates the book. Definitely time-consuming.
Seriously one of the hardest classes I've taken.. She expects you to know the book inside and out. If you come to class without having read the material beforehand, brace yourself for a lecture feeling like she's talking in the speed of light and in some other language. Her exams are very confusing (i.e. A, B, C, A&C, A & B & C) Don't take her.
DON'T EVER TAKE HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY WITH HER! She knows what she's teaching and on top of her game, but this professor talks WAY to fast and doesn't like to repeat anything. Doesn't seem too friendly. Read the textbook ahead of time because I guarantee you that you'll be lost after the first 10 minutes of lecture. Lecture exams are hard and confusing.
Of all the years I've been at San Jose State University, she has to be the absolute worst professor I've ever had. Avoid at all costs.
This teacher is really awesome!!!!! I am so glad I took this class, I managed to learn everything crystal clear!!!!My love for physio has only grown, im so excited for advanced physio!!!!
speaks so fast she sounds like she's selling cars for an auction, this class caused me to learn how to appreciate life and realize how a class could damage all aspects of your life. I am destroyed mentally and physically after this semester, but I am proud to announce that I am...still alive
This is a challenging professor, but it is possible to get an A. Textbook is required to look at figures. If you decide to take this class, get a recorder!! This professor speaks extremely fast and it's hard to catch everything she says. The curve is generous but try to do well without it as you are basically competing against your peers.
If you want to live through hell, go ahead and take this class. Even though it seems like the curves are low, it is nearly impossible to get an A on her lecture exams. She talks faster than a roadrunner moves so make sure you have a recorder. Expect to have no life while taking this class because you have to study whenever you aren't in class.
it is possible to get an A in this class but you MUST RECORD THE LECTURES all her test questions are based solely on what she says in lecture so what i did is record and then write down everything she said about the figures and studied before the test and managed to get an A. I didnt ace every test but the curve was low enough to boost me to an A.
I got an A which is possible if you study your butt off. I never recorded a single lecture and instead read the books from front to back. If reading and dissecting information aren't your forte, might not be ideal. During lectures, I just wrote as much as possible. Also helps to read before the lecture. SO much easier to pay attention & understand.
Hardest. Class. Ever. Do not waste your time with a recorder. Instead, bring your physio book to class and highlight everything she talks about and reread/memorize this material before lecture exams. Expect a ridiculous amount of stress and tears. Take at a community college to save your GPA. (A is not impossible, but very hard to get)
I heard horror stories about this class before taking it. However, it is completely manageable if you put in the effort. Attendance is essential, recording the lectures helps too since she talks really fast. An insane amount of material is covered so keep on top of it. Attend her office hours, she is really approachable and helpful!
Many people are under the impression that this class is difficult to pass. The only difficult part about it is the amount of material. If you stay on top of your work, an A is definitely doable. Dr. Cargill is a great professor. If you go to her office hours she will discuss the material with you and answer all your questions.
really horrible at teaching. i am a 3.0 avg student and this class lowered my grades. she is impossible and treats this class as a graduate class.
this class is difficult. everyone is taking it out on dr. cargill but she is actually a great prof. she repeats herself numerous times to ensure clarity however she does speak fast as there is a lot to cover. got an A after getting 2 C's on the 1st tests then acing the rest. best piece of advice: record.that way you dont have to read the book
Without a doubt, the most I've ever studied for a class. What makes it difficult is the unbelievable amount of information she gives you for the lectures (and she talks at about 100-mph). BUT, she's a really nice teacher and she'll give you good info. on how to study for her exams IF you go to her office. Some Qs on the exam were unfair-ish too
This class is the hardest class I have taken at SJSU. I also did not know how to study for it. She is a good teacher in the sense that she has the passion for it, but it is her tests that are very hard. Record each lecture, read the book for better clarity, and go over your notes after every class and maybe you will do better than I did!
She's a really nice teacher (and adds a little humor to the course) but the workload is incredibly heavy. Definitely work your other study times AROUND this class because it's brutal. If you go to her office hours she'll give you tips on how she likes her essay question answers.
Terrible professor. You can know all of the material and be able to explain everything perfectly, but unless you know what she wants and how she wants it written, she won't give you anything. She looks for places to dock points. Don't take this class if you can.
If you absolutely have to take this class, take the lab part with her. She's the one who has the biggest say on what goes on the exams and how the exams are graded (all labs have same exam). She also teaches her students what she wants on her exam. Those with other lab instructors get nothing (because she pretty much writes the exam herself).
Class: 4 exams, 1 poster presentation & 1 powerpoint pres. She was very clear on how to get full pts on presentations & was always willing to help you with them too. She goes pretty quickly through her lectures & there is a lot of info to process memorize. You really have to know everything all details to do good on the exams (all short answer Q)
Never in my entire semester did I work as hard as I did for a grade. I had her for both 124/125 and it was brutal. Cargill is an amazing professor but an extremely hard grader. Do the homework because it's the only free points you get. Use her study guide and lectures for the tests. Tests can be tricky.
These are the hardest classes that I have taken but it's really worth it. She will drill important concepts into you until you have nightmares about them. Please read the book, memorize AND understand her slides, provide explanations and details on exams, try not to be redundant and you will be fine. "Live and breathe physiology", literally.
Never have I been so frustrated with a class in my life. She claims to understand the students, but makes little effort in doing so. Tests are graded ridiculously harsh and the amount of questions and time she gives you per test is insane (many people don't finish in time). Unless she decides to re-evaluate herself, I don't recommend taking her.
Dr. Cargill expects a lot out of you. This was the hardest biology class I have ever taken. The lectures were extremely dense with information. You have to record the lecture and do your best to memorize! The 4 exams were long and mixed with MC, T/F, and short answers. The comprehensive final will replace your lowest exam score. Good Luck!!
DO NOT TAKE. I put in so many hours of studying, sought help, and am an overall good student and could not pass. She speaks too fast, considers everything critical information (not main points and support), and seems to be adversarial with her students. If you MUST take her class, take nothing else that requires any effort-get your GEs over with
Gives great lectures and explanations. The reason why the class is so hard isn't due to her teaching, its because the course requires learning A LOT of material. She is picky on wording for tests, but literally hints in lecture that the question will be on the exam. Very open to helping students. Complete the given study guides and you'll be fine.
I am writing this on behalf of my traumatized friend because she was so badly antagonized by this professor! This class is extremely difficult and the professor is not helpful at all! She is bitter and should not be teaching because she is the complete opposite of what a professor should be! DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
