She is a sexy pirate.

Giving people writers cramp on a daily basis is her best attribute.
Lots of writing, but she will teach and you will learn!
Has a very traditional view of econ development NOT the right person for class
No Comments
It's a good class for the most part, as long as you attend. She knows her stuff really well and if you pay attention you can do good.
If you take a class from Shelley be prepared for a battle to attain a good mark. You will learn... and the course content is interesting. But if you're looking for a grades booster then avoid the class.
she likes to show leg. monotone and no laughter at all. lots of notes.
she is good professor, but too many notes
Nice prof. Even if you don't know how to answer a question in an exam, write something down and you'll get points.
Not very good at explaining questions asked in class. She is a difficult marker but exams aren't too difficult. All in all not a bad econ prof.
Very monotone. Not very good at explaining things. Doesn't answer questions very well.
I had Shelley for econ 111 and econ 114, and I found her okay. Yes her exams are difficult but she marks the essays easy so mostly everybody gets a good mark. I would recommend her as an econ prof
I thought she was great. I took 111, 114, 211, and 254 from her. Time well spent. And she's good to look at.
Shelley is funny. Reminds me of Lorane off of MadTV. and says "okay" after every sentance but all in all she is alright. Tests aren't bad just listen to her comments in lectures, but she does't answer questions very well in class. Recommended fo
She is a very funny proffessor. Classic. I've heard she is an easier economics proffessor than any other. The short answer and essay questions on exams are a blessing.
I recommend this prof. Tests are fair and if you give a little effort it is very easy to get a good mark. Notes are on the internet and easy to follow, and tests are based out of the notes so it is fairly easy.
Very condescending, way too many notes for only a 3 credit class. She was not much of a help.
Good prof compared to Beck and Dooley. Her notes are on the web but you still have to go to class to fill in the graphs and stuff but her exams are better than any other Econ Prof I've had
Coggins is the best econ prof ever. you actually learn things and can explain them to everyone in Becks class.
Worst prof I've ever had. Does not engage the class, simply reads from her notes. Class enrolement is around 30 people, average attendance is between 13 and 15. Worst class ever.
not a very good prof. Extremely boring, monotone and reads from notes. Very difficult to follow due to lack of enthusiasm. Webtests do not follow material covered in class.
She is a very warmhearted person. Would love to take more classes from here. You can just hope she is going to curve the marks at the end.
excellent prof, i liked her essay type answers for this class. she must have been a fox when she was younger...****.

The worst ever
Although she teaches well she makes you feel like an inconvience when seeing her outside of class.
Terrible prof. She had difficulty explaining herself. She repeatedly screwed up her graphs. Every class seemed like her first day on the job. If you must take Econ from this woman be prepared to teach yourself and/or get a tutor - going to class will seriously leave you worse off.
Organized notes, straightforward tests, and she is a nice prof. Lectures are pretty boring, but its economics, I never expected to be entertained!
A blessing in disguise! I was not looking forward to the class but found the assignments and exams easier than other Econ classes I've taken. Look up old exams and know them insideout and backwards they will help you out!
Lectures are pretty boring, but you have to go to them to get the graphs to accompany the powerpoint notes that she has online.Midterms were Hard, but she marked them very easy. You got marks for just writing Something that had to do with economics! Final was pretty easy if you did all the webtests! Pretty good prof!
Very boring prof., her webtests do not relate to class material and she likes to assume that you know everything about agricultural economies. She gives no explanation for the random lines she places on her graphs.
Absolutely Fantastic Prof, super caring and helpful. How many profs do you know that ASK YOU if you were ok with your essay mark?
Not an easy class, no midterms or assignments, so you have no idea what to study. One 55% term paper and a 45% final. Make up your mind if you decide to take the class.
Boring but explains things well. A little bit condescending at times. Tests were pretty straightforward and we only covered stuff we were shown in class.
She was such a good prof! Anything she puts on her midterms are from her notes...she only changes the product demanded (id-instead of wheat, it's beef)! I'd recommend her to anyone. Her jokes are dry but you can't help but laugh. If you read through her notes thoroughly, you'll easily get 80+.
She is the best prof ever~~~ very friendly and patient. If you have any question, feel free to ask her. She is very willing to help you.I highly recommend her as your prof if you are planning to take econ 214
Great professor, if she tells you you'll need to know something it will defentitely be on the exam and a big portion of the exam. describes things easily and is very pleasant. Can be condescending and assumes you should know things but her ease of tests and liberal marking more than makes up for it.
Probably one of the most confusing profs i've had! Her notes say different things than the textbook. If u ask her a question about something, she'll answer in the most confusing way! which will leave u more confused before u even asked her to clarify. i wasn't too impressed with her teaching.
She is terrible. I can't believe that she still has a job teaching. Boring class. Mandatory attendance and all she does is read the notes she already handed out. Just plain awful!
Shelley Coggins....oh Shelley....she likes to use a bunch of different colors to right notes...maybe it looks pretty but its extremely confusing. And she is a graph-oholic!! Everything you do has a graph...absolutely everything. But, she tells you what will be on exams which is nice! MC,long answer, and ESSAY (eeek) on exams. Marks really fair tho
the things i would do to this woman :) mhmmmmm yum
Nap time! love graphs to death. essay and multiple choice on exams and true or false. chapter quizzes make up most of the mark and are easy to cheat on. she'd be a fun grandma but needs to stop teaching economics classes at this level. she drove me nuts! she's quite the ditz!
Worst professor I have had in 4 years of university. Textbook is useless; don't buy it. Marking is not fair, and she lectures straight out of the notes she posts.
Dry lectures. Can't read her writing and notes become illegible as she works back and forth across the board. She suggested my essay topic and still gave me a bad mark. NOT a mark booster. Not an interesting class unfortunately either. Textbook completely useless. Must go pray to do well on the final on Monday. In the name of the...
Had a difficult time explaining the simple concept of barter. That was the turning point in the class. The web quizzes did not reflect what was learned in class. If you take her class, be prepared to learn from the text book, and not necessarily from the lectures.
Terrible.
Coggin's is the class you want for 111 if you are actually interested in learning about econ. She explains everything in detail, is a fair marker, but the section with Boving had much easier tests that didn't involve essays. But if you actually do want to learn something i would recommend her.
Class is enjoyable. I went almost every day just because Shelly is so funny! Very dry and monotone but tries to make it fun in a old fashion sort of way. If you get to know her this class can be a breeze. Web tests blow but help for final. Midterms have essay and shortanswers but are marked very easily. 100 multiple choice final. Love Shelly!
Good prof.. Will actually learn economics from her... Easy to understand but must attend every class
I found Shelly to be hostile and unhelpful. She will answer your questions briefely but don't expect much more. The class was also extremely fast pased. However she does mark exams pretty easy.
What to say about Shelly Cogs.. hmmm. Well instead I'll just give you some tips for success. 1.) Print off the webtests and memorize them because they can be on the test. 2.) Go talk to her outside of class about something economic related and you'll be her favorite. 3.) Learn how to draw graphs and love them, It will benefit. Trust Me
Eat before class cause all of her examples are about beef. Posts all of the notes online, but you have to go to the lecture to get the graphs and there are A LOT. The req webtests suck, but some questions are also on the midterm/final. Her exams are a little challenging (include essay questions), but is a fair marker. Def buy the text!
Shelley is clearly passionate about her work. Her lectures are clear and concise, although her responses to students' questions can sometimes be obfuscated. She is very knowledgeable and easy to approach. Unlike many other economy classes, you WILL learn something from her classes.
Other than the fact that her webtests do NOT test understanding from class lectures (but rather from the book), she is a pretty good prof who has a solid understanding of the key issues. She really does make you learn and attend class. Also, mandatory attendance in order to do well...
Very Hard
I still can't figure out why those who choose to play instead of studying come here to spoil the reputation of innocent professors. The secret to getting good grades is to ask questions. She is there to guide you through the 55% essay. Study the past questions and you will be good to go for the final exam
Decent prof. Obsessed with graphs. Web tests solely based on textbook, exams all based on lectures.
DIfficult class for first years. SOOOO MANY GRAPHS and you have to understand ALL OF THEM. some of them are really complicated. Also, I went for help after class and she wasnt very helpful. Definitely not the greatest prof I've had at U of S
Teaching is so bad, self study is much better, and the exam is so hard. Worst proffessor i ve met.
There are better profs out there than her. Her humour is dry, asks questions to the class but only the students with a good understanding of econ would answer, she would then move on assuming the rest of the class understands. Online tests were brutal, 40 or so minutes to rip through 40 questions.
My favourite prof i have ever had, very helpful, approachable, went into this class with no economics background, now I am interested in perusing this as a career.
Assumes everyone understands if one student says they do. Lots of graphs! Uses lots of symbols in notes. Webtests and midterms are hard! Very friendly and understanding.
Shelley was a GREAT Econ. prof! If you attend class and take notes, the midterms will be a breeze. She emphasizes important concepts (which appear on exams) and reviews them often. Shelley was very helpful to any of my questions and one of my favorite professors thus far! I recommend her for ANY Econ class!!!
Very easy marker on exams.
online quizzes were unbelievable hard. terrible teacher. uses confusing graphs that do not make sense to explain herself. power points are difficult to understand. IF POSSIBLE GET OUT OF THIS CLASS
I thought that she did a good job at teaching econ. Online quizzes were a little difficult, but as long as you read the textbook, they are easy. Textbook is a must have if you want anything to make sense in this class.
I really enjoyed Shelly as a prof. You definitely need to attend her lectures if you wish to pass. She uses a lot of graphs to explain concepts. If ever you have questions she is always ready to help after class.
Avoid taking her class if possible. Her lectures leave you more confused than ever with her slides being very abbreviated and hard to understand. She does not follow the textbook in any way but has web tests that are solely based on the textbook. Her tests are very unclear of material and grading scheme. ALL she draws are graphs, hundreds.
The notes were pretty bad. You have to go to class because almost all of it is based on graphs. Learned more from the textbook and Harvard lecture slides than I did from her. Didn't think test/assignment grading was consistent and the lectures were real dry. Avoid if possible.
I wouldn't recommend taking her class. The lectures are not based around the textbook, but the web tests are. The notes that are given are not very clear and the textbook does a far better job of explaining the concepts. The class's final was weighted at 50% too, but there were plenty of opportunities to divide the marks more evenly
She speaks in a monotone voice and moves very quickly, there isn't even an attempt to make the subject interesting. Everything is abbreviated, slides are useless and lectures are mandatory.
She is the worst prof I have ever had. SO RUDE and if you ask her a question outside of class she will tell you to look in the notes which are pretty much illegible because it is so abbreviated and her writing is also illegible so you can't even write your own proper notes! AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Attendance is not mandatory but it's best to attend if you want to pass the class. Much harder class then other ECON profs at the U of S. Shelley is hard to follow in her lectures, she draws many graphs and uses many abbreviations but doesn't explain what they mean. Her midterms include short and long answer questions.
Shelley's econ is more focused on graphs and numbers, not so much theory. She uses shorthand when lecturing and it does get confusing sometimes. You need to go to class to get the graphs. Midterms and quizzes are fair if you study.
She is a pretty tough marker on her midterms in the long answer, she was really good about helping me when class was done and she was super nice. The final was pretty fair game for the most part with exception of a few hard questions. Overall decent prof.
Shelley can get really confusing, she focuses on the math part too much and makes it more difficult then it needs to be. Her tests are fair, don't worry about the essays as long as you label your graphs and use them you should get a decent mark. She is nice, and is always very organized. Watch ACDC econ, dood is a life saver.
Dr. Coggins' ECON211 class was a pretty thorough treatment of microeconomics. Course notes are posted online, but the all-important graphs are not. She was always willing to respond to email or meet in person. Exams are all short/long answer style, but are mostly in the style of the assignment questions.
what? is what im thinking evrytime im in class
Nothing every gets posted on paws, not assignments or tests, she does post notes but draws all the graphs and important info on the board in small print that you can barely see. She explains things fast and does not go into detail or explains well. This class was all math and no theory. Do not take econ 211 with her.
Econ 211 has a lot of material and shelley covers it all very efficiently and you can tell she has been teaching a long time. Going to class is a must to get the graphs she draws. Course is fairly math heavy but shelley is always willing to meet outside of class to help you out. Going to class and practicing are key. Would definitely take again.
Lectures consist of her scribbling graphs on the board and reading directly from the slides where every second word is abbreviated. Web tests are based solely on the textbook while lecture have very little to do with the textbook. Extremely confusing professor, had to teach myself the whole class. ACDC Economics on youtube is a real lifesaver.
Shelly seems like a super smart lady but that's kind of to the students detriment here. If you didn't understand it right off the bat she doesn't teach it any other way. Or rephrase it. Ever. Even when you ask for clarification. It's all abbreviations and when you take half a second to understand those you've missed half the lecture.
