Fun class with a young and hip teacher. She likes to connect what she's teaching with current events that are interesting. I loved this class and looked forward to it everyday, just make sure you put a lot of effort on your midterm paper and final! Only 2 papers and 2 exams. Swag on a hundred.
I came just to give her a chili pepper, keep your passion your class was awesome!
This teacher is really entertaining and probably one of the best I've had! She's an amazing person and hilarious. Never a dull moment. The class really gets you thinking and causes you to think outside the box! Amazing Class!!
Young and brilliant professor, and generally clear. She makes things easy, and is good at teaching how to argue. Classes always interesting. Has a lot of college-humor in lectures. She comes off as partial when it comes to God, slighted toward God's ill-existence. But she's respectful of all points of view in your papers. Recommend!
Love this class, i always came to class ready for a laugh and ready to discuss many topics. Make sure you do all your work and you will be fine.
Phil110 was my favorite class this semester. I would highly recommend this class because it is interesting and pretty easy. There are 2 exams and 2 papers and then small weekly assignments on blackboard. As long as you read and follow the directions, you will do well!
Love this class it was my favorite class
Professor Dedman is awesome. I really enjoyed her class. The material was difficult but very interesting and she does a great job explaining difficult concepts in lecture. She talks about the existence of God quite a bit but that's just philosophy. Not biased in my opinion. 4 exams and 1 paper. Online portion pretty easy.
Excellent professor! I would highly recommend taking her course. As long as you complete the easy weekly assignments you should be fine. You also get a notecard to fill up with answers for the test.
I was surprised to learn during the VERY last class of the semester that this was Shelley's first time teaching- she's awesome! She explains philosophy concepts in an unbiased, easy-to-comprehend way, and throws in some humor to keep things interesting. She was my favorite teacher out of all my courses, I would highly suggest taking her class.
My favorite professor this semester! She is a fantastic and funny professor who is very lenient when it comes to grading. Her lectures are enjoyable and she's a very happy and chill person! She gave us 6 quizzes this semester and ended up dropping our 2 lowest scores. She's young too, so she can relate to all of us. I definitely recommend her!
Hybrid in class/online. Really couldn't tell that it was her first time teaching. Even if a class is particularly quiet, she makes everything pretty hilarious. Philosophy is a hard subject, but she makes it super easy and fun. Final paper is pretty straight forward and tests are easy if you go to class and watch all of the online lectures.
Professor Dedman is one of the best professors on campus. She's very relatable, funny, and understanding. A professor who genuinely cares! Her lectures also consist of intriguing topics, making class something to look forward to. If you have the choice to take her, definitely do it! One of the best classes I've taken at SDSU
Ms. Dedman is an amazing professor who taught Philosophy for the first time. She did a really good job; I had no idea that this was her first time teaching the class. She makes the lectures interesting and intriguing. Highly recommend to take her class.
She's pretty nice and clear with what she expects. Attendance isn't necessary just to pass, but it's a good idea to show up most days if you want an A. As long as you do the homework on time you'll be ok.
Great teacher! She made all of the lectures interesting and enjoyable. If you stay on top of everything you'll get an A.
She is super funny! Go to lecture, because the textbook readings are sorta confusing and her lectures provide good clarification. The tests are really easy since she releases study guides for all of them. However, she talks really fast.
Took this course during the summer. Seemed cool at first, but then gives crazy amount of work. One week we had 8 ch. to read (about 60 pgs.), 7 articles to online, 2 videos to watch, plus quiz and weekly journal. That's just for one class. Quiz are Thurs-Fri, so basically have to finish everything by Fri. No lectures vids from her so no help.
Took philosophy not sure what to expect, but I'm so glad I did. Loved this class and loved this professor. Readings are difficult but she explains it well in class, which are not mandatory but they're a good idea if you want to pass. She's really funny in a quirky way. Interesting tooics that make you think!
She was an absolutely wonderful professor. She made lectures interesting and she was funny. She was straightforward with what was going to be on the exams (4 exams each with one essay and then a final 6 page essay). Would definitely take her again she is great.
She designed the class so that it would not be strenuous. The lectures are interesting and she is really laid back and cool. There are three midterms and a final that are all really easy. There is also a final essay that was not difficult. Definitely would recommend her she is really great.
Shelley was a great prof. She cared about her students and loves philosophy. You don't need to read just go to lecture or look at student study guide. 3 tests a final and a paper all worth 100 points. Easy and interesting class.
Super great professor that is extremely unique. She makes you feel at home in her lectures. Make sure to do her study guides and you will be fine
Professor Dedman is literally the best!! I had the class at 9am and her wit and enthusiasm for the topic made it so easy to wake up and go to class. I never thought I would enjoy philosophy but she made it so easy to be engaged with material because it was all current and interesting. I HIGHLY recommend you take her class!!
Professor Dedman was honestly one of my favorite professors I had this semester. I wasn't sure how well I was going to do in a philosophy class but she made it very interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but I suggest going because she covers all the readings and sometimes those can get confusing and long. There's three midterms and a final exam.
Professor Dedman shows amazing enthusiasm, precision, and care as a teacher; be ready for a lecture-heavy class, there is a textbook but readings are not necessarily mandatory as long as you listen and take good notes--however, it is a good resource to also refer back to. She explains things thoughtfully and thoroughly which I always appreciate.
I wish I could be her friend. She's a very good lecturer and the book she picked only cost $15 +shipping, and the readings are actually interesting. Class isn't heavy on reading, and if you just keep up you'll easily ace every test. She also plays a music video right before class starts and her taste is pretty good (:
She is a great professor that makes the material clear. She teaches through powerpoint so make sure you attend class. The exam are easy since she provides a study guide.
I really loved Professor Dedman, she is genuinely passionate about philosophy and it shows in her teaching. I just wish she gave us more classwork so that our grade was made up of more than just three tests and a paper. Otherwise, she was an amazing teacher and her tests are not too difficult as long as you study thoroughly.
I learned a lot in this class and she always made lectures super interesting. She made me actually want to come to class. Attendance is not mandatory, but it makes the class easy if you go. Grade based off three tests, a 3-5 page paper, and a final.
Awesome professor. Quick response time, detailed help, and genuine care for your success. The topics are interesting and the grading criteria are clear, especially in the online class. Don't be afraid to reach out if you don't understand something or you need clarification with a grade. She's super friendly and fair.
I love Shelley Dedman and I wish I could hangout with her outside of class. Her lectures are interesting and I actually enjoy going to class at 9:00 am. All the tests and quizzes are straightforward, and she gives a study guide for the tests. I highly recommend taking her class, even if you aren't interested in philosophy.
She is a wonderful teacher. The topics are interesting in her class and she always has a so much energy. Two tests, five quizzes, final exam, and final paper. Tests are easy - just be sure to read and do the study guides. Quizzes were online for me - super easy. She does not post lecture slides, so you have to go to class in order to get notes.
She is a great professor, never any surprises. Friday class/quizzes online and she gives you study guides for what will be on the test. She makes the lectures interesting and enjoyable for those who are just taking this for credit. I wasn't excited about taking this class but ended up loving it and her!
Over all great experience. She is very clear about what she expects in class. Lecturers are easy to follow along with.
A very engaging yet informative professor! Had her for a 9 AM and still managed to show up to almost every single lecture and did not dread it because she makes it interesting and easy to understand. You need to show up as she does not post powerpoints, but tests are straightforward if you listen and pay attention in lecture.
I really liked this professor, and her class was fairly easy. Although, if you want to get an A, I would recommend going to all the lectures because the quizzes and tests are based off of them. You can tell that she cares about her students and she is very accessible outside of class. I would highly recommend :)
Dedman is the reason why I like philosophy now! Her lectures are engaging and funny, and she makes philosophy easier to understand. In my class, our grades were based on online quizzes, three exams, and one paper. She prepares you for all of these things by providing study guides for the exams and the quizzes are based on the notes from lectures.
Probably one of the best professors Ive had so far!Attendance is not mandatory but I went to get notes(she doesnt post PPs) and because class truly is enjoyable! She makes topics interesting and likes to hear studentss opinions! If you are thinking about this class definitely take it! You will need to put effort but its all worth it! Recommend!
Dedman is quirky, funny, and a super great professor! She makes her lectures interesting and breaks down the readings so that they are easy to understand. If you go to lecture you don't really need to read the book and the quizzes and video content are online if you take the hybrid class. Was a great class and I highly recommend taking her!
Prof Dedman was awesome! She's funny and her lectures were great, even at 9am. The homework is usually just reading with an occasional online quiz (if you take the hybrid class). There are 2 exams plus the final exam and a final paper. The content was super interesting and relevant, would totally take her again and recommend taking her!
Professor Dedman's class was very interesting and I found myself easily engaged even at 9am. Even though attendance isn't mandatory I would highly recommend going to class because she is so good at explaining the material and it'll make the tests less difficult. 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 paper and 5 online quizzes.
Amazing professor! The topics covered were interesting and engaging. I really appreciated that she presented difficult topics in a fair and unbiased manner, something that seems rare at SDSU. The lectures reinforce the readings, the reviews reinforce the material covered throughout the week. If you do the readings/reviews and show up to class, A.
This was by far one of my favorite classes. Professor Dedman's powerpoints are super interesting and you can tell she cares about the subject. Super easy class if you pay attention and go to her lectures. There's a few quizzes that are online, 2 midterms, a final, and a final paper.
she is so sweet and funny. She makes sure her lectures are interesting and as long as you attend class and pay attention you will do just fine! There is no hw, just quizzes here and there.
I will admit that this class was very challenging at times. CT can be very confusing but she was always there to answer any questions you might have. She is on the younger side so she understands the younger college students more than most teachers. You need the text book for this class for sure. Keep up with the work and you'll be good!
Took this online during the summer. Everything you need was given at the start of the week. She was very helpful and she likes memes. Dedman is a tough grader though, I couldn't get a 100 on any of the posts or essays. Other than that, this was an easy class to earn those GE Units.
i took the summer online class and it was one of my favorite classes surprisingly. she loves memes and its hilarious. the class itself wasnt too bad you got a mc quiz every week and 2 exams. you have to do a journal writing every week and a timed essay. sounds like a lot but just manage your time wisely and its very doable
Assigned readings and interesting videos but if you don't do the reading she covers the important material in lectures. Super awesome prof. Tests low key kinda hard.
She was outstanding! Started ever class with some music and she made every class really interesting and tried to be interactive. The tests were not that difficult, she gives you a study guide before each exam. You dont have to go to class to pass but it helps because she doesnt post the slides.
Amazing professor! She made class time fun by starting class discussions on interesting topics and uses MEMES on her powerpoints. Tests are pretty straightforwards and study guides tell you what to focus on. Overall, fun and chill professor. Would take her again!!!
She doesn't put her lectures online so you actually have to show up. I was taking this class for GE credit but she treats this class like we're all phil majors. She grades hard on all the essay portions and her lectures are really boring. If you're looking for a class to fulfill your GE humanities credit DO NOT take this one with Dedman
I went into this class thinking I would hate philosophy but Shelly made it super enjoyable and it ended up being one of my only As lmao. I would recommend this class for sure. Theres no homework, test have study guides that are super straight forward, and the notes are not awful.
I honestly loved this class, very insightful and informative. Attendance is not mandatory but the lectures are short and really help. There's 5 online quizzes that are straight out of the lecture notes and a couple tests. The essay portions of the tests are a little difficult but she gives you the questions before and a full study guide.
This was a really fun class, I enjoyed learning about tech and its ethical implications. The weekly quizzes are important but they are easy. The readings are complicated sometimes but the summaries really help.
Attendance not mandatory but I recommend just going for the notes. If you do the study guide and read your notes before the test, the tests will be easy. There's a few online quizzes that are simple, but make sure to do them because they can affect your grade. Also gives an optional final paper if you don't want to take the final.
Dedman is nice and quick to respond to student emails. Your grade is almost entirely based on short weekly quizzes, but read/ watch her material and you'll do great. The weekly workload is very light!
Good class, interesting topics, the quizzes are not difficult. Midterm and Final partially made up of old quiz questions. One paper based off of the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep." Only reason I didn't get an A was because I missed a quiz when I had to move home suddenly due to COVID.
Take this class. It was actually interesting and not hard to get a good grade in at all. There was only one mandatory paper and it was graded generously. By far my favorite of the semester.
I took this as a summer class, there's a lot to do every week because it's so compressed (6 chapters, quiz, journal entries every week) but I expected it. Sometimes she'll mark you down a few points on journals but not give any feedback which was kinda annoying, the TA gave better feedback than her. Solid option for GE though, not overly difficult.
Took her online for summer 2020 and it was a relatively easy course. There's a lot of weekly readings and about 2 journal prompts plus a quiz at the end of each week but overall if you devote a little time each day you'll do just fine. Prof is also really sweet and funny and sends memes each week. She also always answers her email so you have help!
Dedman is a really nice professor, enjoyed her weekly memes/jokes and her lectures . Workload was not heavy, graded on weekly quizzes, two papers, midterm, and final. Definitely a class everyone should take, good to fulfill the GE requirement. On track to get a B+ but this is definitely a class you could get an A on.
This is the 2nd class of Shelley's I've taken and she's a solid professor. She cares about her students and even removed a quiz because it fell on Halloween. Weekly assignments are easy. 2 papers about books which were actually really interesting. I thought she graded the papers a little tough, but I still managed an A. I would recommend this GE.
Professor Dedman is fantastic. Really enjoying her class and the content. Weekly quizzes (she gave us 1 freebie), midterm, final and 2 papers. Read the assigned work, ace the tests. Its that easy.
Dedman is really caring and is really like another student at state. Quizzes can be taken using her summaries, all of the answers and questions are just copied and pasted. She does 2 essays, one for the midterm and one for the final. Strongly recommend to read the book early for the midterm essay, you cannot get answers anywhere else.
This class was really fun and very eye-opening. Grade is made up of 10 quizzes, 2 essays, and a final. Dedman tells you exactly what you need to know for each week, which is really helpful in learning the material. She emails memes once a week and gives fun educational videos to supplement the textbook material. I give her and the class a 10/10!
Lots of reading but most of it is interesting. Your whole grade is bases off of three tests and two essays but they arent super difficult so it is an easy A if you put minimal effort in.
My whole family told me philosophy is boring but Dedman makes it so entertaining and interesting. Probably the best course Ive taken at state, and actually glad to take this GE.
I took her during the pandemic and I loved this class. The material is really interesting and the 3 tests are easy if you read the articles and do the weekly guides she gives out. She is a bit of a tough grader on the 2 papers though. She is really funny, caring and enjoyable professor. I highly recommend this course!
Her fun personality shone even when fully online. Only had 5 graded items, 2 essays. Different TAs aren't always equal graders. I got a good one, but some complained about theirs :/ Assigned reading is interesting. Starting a groupchat will help. Really good choice overall. Wish I had her in person of course.
Easy GE to take and pass.
She gives an outline of things to read/watch every week but they're not graded assignments. The class is graded by exams and essays but really aren't many at all. Exams are easy and essays are actually interesting. She's super funny and sweet in emails/announcements.
easy online class for a ge, somewhat interesting, Quizlet is helpful, minimal effort required for tests and essays
This class w/ Dedman is pretty light. 3 easy online tests and 2 papers. She is kind of a tough grader on the papers and it depends if you get her or a TA that grades. However, the essay topics are interesting and she helps you review your main points/quotes/thesis/etc if you ask prior. You have to read a book too for one paper.
Dedman is a great prof if you want an easy GE. To be honest, I wasnt really interested in the class and didnt do the readings a lot of the time. But class is well organized and she lays out all the material for the week. Decent effort on the papers will get you a B on them. Quizlet is a lifesaver. Overall easy A class and nice prof
Professor Dedman clearly cares about her students. The reading can be difficult, but there are summaries that help. The exams are not hard, and open notes. There are 2 essays, and she is a pretty hard grader for a 100 level. Read the books and do not start last minute; you will likely regret it. Definitely passable and a good GE or elective.
Not many assignments but every assignment is worth a lot in the end so theres no room to mess up. She gave extra credit which was nice. Comes off arrogant at times with her opinions and b/c shes teaching an honors class. Finals work was insane at the end b/c of time constraint: 8 min presentation, timed essay&MC final, & 8 pg paper in 3 weeks.
Grades are only based on 3 exams and 2 papers. I felt like the lectures were not very engaging and robotic. I would recommend reading the summaries she gives every week otherwise lectures, videos, and textbook reading was not as helpful. Very easy workload every week and an easy A.
Great class and I learned a lot. Some students in the class complained there was too much work but other classes I had were about the same. Dedman is caring and takes the time to make the material interesting. Gives good feedback. Not an easy A but worth the effort.
Straightforward online class. No discussion boards which I loved because I hate discussion boards! Do the readings, use the study guides she posts. Helps to email her about the papers. Decent GE pick.
Ethics bowl was one of my favorite classes as it was a twist on speech and debate. This class will require dedication and research, just like any other debate or speech class. Professor Dedman was great, easy to contact, and was still pushing us even until the end. I would 100% recommend this class if you like moral philosophy, ethics, and debate.
Very opinionated professor, the material learned in class itself is interesting. However an extremely hard grader, this class is not an easy A. Not many assignments given throughout the course, except for a huge final. She will mark you off just for missing a comma.
This course is very simple with few assignments, but it can creep up on you. There was 3 multiple choice test, and 2 essays. The essays are the hard part of the class because you must know how to argue. These essays are argumentation based. She doesn't give feed back unless you ask. I recommend you ask on how to improve your essays. Not an easy A.
Content is interesting and I liked the two books she assigned for the papers however she grades the papers pretty strict. The exams are easier just be sure to keep up with the guides she posts each week. This was my first philosophy class and I liked it overall.
Very tough grader for an intro to ethics class, she will find any excuse to mark off points. Nice that she accepted late work and gave 2 extra credit assignments, but the finals workload was unnecessary.
I loved this class it was my favorite of the semester and Prof Dedman is awesome. Some whiny students got salty that Dedman wouldn't change the final which wasn't even that bad. Stupid.. Ignore them because this class is worth taking.
Dedman is hip and funny in her announcements she sends out, but her lectures were very boring and robotic. 3 multiple choice exams, 2 papers (on books). The language used in lecture & books is confusing. This class definitely had the potential to be much more interesting, so I was disappointed that it was not a fun class. But easy A in my opinion.
Professor Dedman is witty, engaged with her students, and teaches philosophical concepts in a way that is understandable regardless of your academic background. The course is interesting and not hard to do well in. This is a great way to learn to form and defend a position on current events and improve your public speaking. Would recommend!
You have to be on top of your work in this class. Concepts are not easy and you get so much reading material. She doesn't tell you when to start reading the actual books, so read the syllabus carefully. Tests are easy, it's just the essays that are very time consuming and confusing. Email a lot of questions and space you're reading out weekly.
Very cool online class. Readings are interesting and she tries to keep it current. Uses Black Mirror for discussion boards about tech. I actually enjoyed the assignments.
I appreciated Dedman's presentations of the material even if the class itself was online. I would have liked this class to be in person but it was great as is. I learned alot and she was flexible with deadlines.
Generally pretty easy class, one of the easiest options for a GE. Assignments are interesting, but some concepts are difficult to understand. Lots of discussion posts/writing based assignments. I think there were 2 essays and 3 tests, but usually a discussion post due every week. Easy to stay on top of things.
This class is something I suggest taking since it is completely online which was really nice. Professor Dedman in particular wasn't my favorite like everyone is raving about. She was decent. She grades hard on essays, even harder than my actual english professors. Lots of discussions posts, two essays, and two exams. Definitely an easy A for most.
Judging by other reviews, she sounds great as an in person instructor, but online, I didn't really feel like she did anything. There were no meeting times, so the entire class was reading, tests, and essays with no interaction.
I'm convinced that professor Dedman doesn't realize that she is teaching a 100 level course and not a 300 level one. The workload is kind of ridiculous for what the course is. We literally have a discussion post due the same day we have an exam due. She is so nitpicky when grading. Overall not a hard class but the busy work is so time consuming.
This honors class is very interesting and pretty much discussion based. Go to the classes to take notes on lectures even if attendance is not mandatory because lectures help with the tests. There's only two tests. There is a lot of discussion boards which is annoying sometimes but if you do them right they are easy.
If you suck at school idk if you should take this. Tests are on quizlet. There are a lot of discussion boards which is annoying with readings text book citations but some have you watch black mirror episodes which is cool. There are two papers on books which are a lot of work without much help on what she specifically wants to email questions.
I think out of all my classes I've taken this semester, this was my least favorite. This course has more busy work and required effort than my 400 level course im currently taking. Prof is a tough grader and knocks points off of discussion posts any chance she can (even on the *forced* responses to peers). Sucks because i was excited for this class
I took her Honors113 Applied Ethics class during the Fall 2022 semester, and it was probably one of the easiest classes I took. She does do weekly discussion boards (sometimes she gives us little breaks) but they are very easy as long as you pay attention to lectures. One midterm and one final- both MCQ and super easy, as well as a presentation.
i found the lectures really boring and usually were so slow paced, i would end up getting distracted in my thoughts and learn nothing. i basically never went to any of the classes and it was just a lot easier to watch crash course to learn instead. assigns a few discussion boards which were kind of enjoyable and like 4 test which werent too bad
Dedman is a funny and chill professor. I really liked going to lectures even though she posts slides. Some discussion boards and a few exams. I plan on taking her again.
Great lecturer--summarized the textbook super efficiently while keeping the class engaging with discussions. Had us watch MiddleGround videos. It's important to stay on top of everything though because discussion board posts need depth and there are two exams. The final presentation you cover a topic from class; she gives good feedback on them.
If there is one recommendation about this course, it's to do the readings. There are discussion boards, multiple choice exams, and essays alike that will require you to know the reading well. Professor Dedman's a tough grader & takes points off for small mistakes, but if you do the work, the course is quite easy, and it's very enjoyable to take.
Great choice for an online class. Dedman is organized and it's easy to know what to do each week. Easy assignments that are either a quiz or a discussion board. She assigns Black Mirror sometimes and I loved that. Fast to respond to emails and is helpful on papers if you ask for it.
Has good lectures, but grading criteria for assignments are not always clear. Is a little late at responding to emails for help.
Professor Dedman is amazing! This class was such a breeze. Attendance isn't mandatory but she doesn't post her lectures online so if you decide not to go the textbook will be your best friend. She summarizes the textbook well in her lectures and is always there to help. You can really tell she cares about her students and loves what she does.
Had canvas discussions on "Black Mirror" and "Love, Death, and Robots." Lectures were helpful. This time, essays were on "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" and "Digital Minimalism" You can find a really good semi-animated audiobook on youtube for 1st one. Fun class, though lots of reading. Also cool videos. Easy class if you are on top of work.
Best GE I have taken at SDSU. Dedman makes class worthwhile and actually enjoyable. Tests can be tricky so be sure to keep up with everything.
Shelley is an amazing professor. Assignments are very straightforward with what you need to do. Follow the instructions and write a good amount and she will give you a good grade. Watched lots of Black Mirror and Love, Death, Robots, which are both amazing shows are great analogy's for the class content, making it very easy to understand.
Please try an episode of Black Mirror before you choose this class. I thought this class would be easier but sheesh the readings are so heavy. Dedman takes points off like crazy on discussion boards. I will say i learned some thought-provoking concepts a few times, but the rest was just pretentiously long readings.
Great class, great professor. The readings are tough but go to lecture and she will tell you everything you need to do well. Exams are written which was a pain but I learned a lot. She's funny and chill. Will take another of her classes in spring.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Although attendance is not mandatory for a grade, you don't want to miss the lectures. She does not record the lectures or post the slides on canvas, but the lectures are so interesting and if you attend most of them, the tests are super easy. She creates a study guide for every unit and it is exactly what is on the test.
Completely online and either have to complete an assignment or quiz each week. Super easy and reading is what will take the most time. Some assignments were based on watching a Netflix episode which made this class more enjoyable. The final is just an essay and it was not difficult. She is super helpful if you reach out and isn't a harsh grader.
Great pick for an online GE. The course is very organized with clear expectations which makes it easy to know what to do. Topics are interesting as well.
Good GE class. It is easy and has interesting topics. Discussion boards every other week with responses to 2 peers and a quiz every other week.
Prepare to read very tough readings! Every week there was either 1 discussion board or quiz. Class itself wasn't too difficult but the workload was tedious. Readings were hard to understand sometimes. Quizzes can be confusing but you can Ctrl+F the questions. Prof responds to emails fast and seems nice. Final essay (4-6 pgs) wasn't too confusing.
Overall not a difficult class, just required that you do readings every week. The readings were pretty tedious and you usually had to watch an hour long episode of Black Mirror. However, actually writing the discussion boards wasn't very time consuming so weekly work was around like 2 hours.
There is a lot of reading, so start early. Some of the assignments were entertaining when you had to watch a Black Mirror episode. There is a quiz about every week except some, but as long as you take notes you will do fine. There is an essay at the end that, but it has a rubric and instructions, and you can also reach out to her.
Fully online. Weekly assignments consisted of textbook readings, sometimes video lectures (10-20 min), and discussion boards or quizzes - either one or the other. Most difficult part was the textbook readings; ~15 pages of verbose language that was hard to understand. However she does provide summaries. Most discussions based on Netflix episodes
This is for Honors 313 which I took last Spring. I loved this class. Mostly class discussion with a final paper and presentation at the end of the semester. We talked about all kinds of things in this class and Shelly was always very positive and fun to talk to. I never felt judged for my comments and I learned a ton. Take her if you can!
This class was honestly super easy. There is one assignment a week that has lectures, videos, or a Netflix episode to go with it. There is lots of reading, but I didn't read anything and skimmed it when I started the assignments and got full credit. The class has a great pace and is easy to take with a heavier class schedule. Follow the rubric!
Her teaching style is the perfect mix between millennial and gen z, packed within a rational cat lady, and I'm all here for it. Very transparent, tests are manageable, and study guides are helpful.
Philosophy can be hard but Dedman makes it easy. Make sure to go to class because most of her exams are from her lectures. She is very helpful if you ask.
The class has a heavy reading load, but the assignments, like discussing Black Mirror episodes, make it more engaging. Unstuck ai was a big help for quiz prep. The professor is responsive and provides clear grading rubrics.
Take this class! Super interesting material and covers a variety of topics within the subject. A few readings each week and assignments alternate between discussion posts and quizzes. The final is a paper and her expectations are very clear for every assignment.
There were weekly homework assignments that were based on readings or a show you have to watch, so homework can take a few hours. No lectures because everything is posted when the week starts, so it's pretty easy to get it out of the way and done.
Quality professor who is sweet and cares about student's learning! Turn in assignments on time, points are deducted for late work. We have little quizzes and discussions - both are medium difficultly. The discussion questions are honestly fun for me even though they can be challenging at times. All in all, good class with many important concepts!
Really nice and kind teacher. All online and ~6 quizzes and 6 discussion boards. You actually have to understand the material and reply to people beyond just agreeing with them but other than that a fairly easy class and you learn a lot
Take this GE. Professor is very passionate and that makes it easier to pay attention. Tests can be on the hard side so go to class which isn't required for points but do it anyway. Overall the class is worth the time. I actually really liked it.
She is so funny and I didn't go enough bcuz it was an early morning class but I wish I did 😭 her curly hair is also so cute she is a vibe for sure
There are 3 tests and an essay portion for each. She's a very hard grader and the test is the only thing that affects your grade.
Lectures are pretty boring and the wording on her slides doesn't make any sense. There are no assignments to be graded which makes it hard to pass. Studying for tests is difficult because she doesn't post her slides or reminders for the tests. Uses TAs to grade everything and its a roll of the dice on if they grade easy.
