Super, Super, nice lady. She covers material very well, as long as you go to class, class will come easy. She makes herself very accessible, always offers to give extra help if you need it. Class is not too hard, interesting classes, great personality!
Very easy class if you don't miss a day.
This is the best teacher and person ever. She makes you want to come to class and learn!! She is funny and helps you every step of the way the test are way very passable even for me and I am not a good test taker. You must take this class
The class was easy, only a few essays. She doesn't explain anything about writting. She teaches a small amount of grammar, and the MLA format. She talks too much about unrelated subjects to the class.
Highly recommended, Although her tests are comprehensive they are extremely easy and the stories are not long to read. Her stories are enhanced with videos. She accepts older editions of the text (that's a plus).
Comes off hard, but is very nice and helpful. She is a great teacher. She explains everything throughly on what you need to know. She gets right to the point.
She is fun and pretty easy. She puts everything on the board that you need to know for each exam, but the exams are essay format.
Take this course you will not be dissapointed. Classes are interesting and fun Ms. fischer expains all very well and is easy to approach with questions. Essay type exams that are expained well in advance. Take this professor anytime she is available for one of your classes.
the best english teacher i have ever had shes the greatest

Very intresting, doesen't make you go to sleep, and assignments are a breeze as long as you read your parts.
Shelly Fischer is a great English teacher that makes the class interesting and entertaining all in one.She is very understanding and helps anybody that will ask for help. If you are looking for the perfect English professor, she is the woman for you.
She is the best English teacher in CCSN. If you go to her class and take notes you will pass the class because the key to that class is that she will right everything that will be on the test to the board and all you have to do is take the notes and study it.
How to pass this class: Read the stories in the book, whatever she writes on the copy down and study and you will be fine. Everything she writes is on the test so there are no surprises.
Ohh I love this teacher i took her for eng 102 during summer time it was easy all you do is take 4 test and key to pass her class is to write down whatever what she writes on the board and study it. Same for eng 231 PEOPLE TAKE HER SHE I COOL
Very nice and caring teacher! The class is sooo easy and you learn a lot! She is clear on everything you have to know to pass! I want to take her English 102 and 231 classes as well. She made me LOVE english!
Yes, write EVERYTHING on the board and you will do fine on the exams, only 4 for the semester and that's your grade. It helps a lot if you download the Cliff's Notes of the stories so you get the basic gist of them.
She is so cool. I loved her class. The only thing I won't miss is how my hand would hert after her tests.
Very nice woman. But her Literature class felt like a Basic Writing class. It was toooooooo easy. I didn't learn a thing. She made me want to take English 232 (with another professor), because I didn't learn a thing in her class.
Awesome, awesome, awesome! I love the passion she shoes in class towards the readings and assignments. She obviously knows her stuff!
She really put a chalenge to you. She gives you all the information you need to right you essays, and then dives you a re-write until you get at least a C. If you put forth the effort, you come out of this class with an english education.
This teacher makes sure that you understand. If you dont pass you are stupid. I still use the stuff I learned in her classes today. I loved this claas so much that I almost 232 but she was not teaching it.
Fantastic teacher, great at interpretation stories. She will break most paragraphs into terms understandable to students in eng 231. The test formats look simple but comprehensive at the same time. She is very easy going which makes her such an amazing appoachable teacher :) Should be English Teacher of the decade
Give her a shot you will not be disapointed. Very dedicated and tells it like it is. She will go out of her way to help. She also keeps the class at an interesting pace.
I have taken this teacher for eng 102 and 231. she is cool and funny. if you study for each test you will pull an A in the class.
Professor Fischer is a wonderful insrtuctor. If you do the work in her class you will excel. Also, she is entertaining.
the BEST english teacher!! i already liked english before this but she made me love it. not too much reading assignments, and most of the readings were fun, interesting stories or plays. the poem test was a little difficult..but just study write yourself little notes on each poem and you'll be fine. she tells you most of what to study for the tests
Professor Fisher was quite an entertaining teacher. Her class and assignments were interesting. Never a dull moment in her class. Good class to take over the summer...4 weeks, rather than 16 weeks! Do well on the essays and you will do well in her class. Definitely recomended.
This professor is really interested in her students. Now let me tell you, her class is not easy but you really learn something in her class and that is the point of everything. I strongly recommend you to take her class and you will have a great time.

She's passionate about what she talks about, and strives to help struggling students -- though she has limited office hours. The only problem I had was with the prompts, many of them were very vague, and she can be quite biased. Don't disagree in your essays, and you'll do fine. Easy to get a B, hard to get an A.
Coolest teacher ever you could sit in class staring out the window and leave having learned how to write better essays. easy class, you learn and she knows her stuff. One thing though she is not as easy as the reviews say. We had 26 people at the start of the class, and now we are down to 15 and it is only the fifth week. She is good..NOT Easy!
I took this teacher for 101,102,and 231. This is the best teacher I ever had. She wants her students to do well. She is very easy to talk to, and very helpful. I still talk to her to this today, she was the reason I picked eng as my major. Take this class.
She is a down-to-earth, nice teacher; your grade is based on 4 fill in the blank tests about really complex stories you have to read and memorize; you also take a lot of notes; NO PAPERS! If you don't like reading and studying, (and would rather write papers) this class isn't for you!
she is a really great teacher and makes the class very interesting. she does a lot from the students, but if u follow her instructions and do exactly what she wanted. then you'll get an easy A or B. recommend this instructor to everyone!!!!
She is awsome take her!
She was interesting and the class was not boring. She is willing to help you on your papers if you go in during her office hours. She can be a bit condescending during in-class discussions when you give an answer she doesn't like. Overall a great teacher.
very nice instroctor.
She was great! One of the best teachers I have ever had! She can be hard on the 101 and 102 students, but hang in there and you will get an A. I had her for 101,102,and 231. She is funny and tells it like it is.
SHES GREAT!! a little crazy but if you come to class and take notes you will get an A shes very helpful and she goes over everything on the test in class.
prof. fisher is a great teacher-highly entertaining. even when she doesn't want to be. don't let her reading out loud in class fool you into thinking you don't have to read-because you do. her tests are quite easy-painfully easy if you study for them and attend class.
I love this teacher! The class is very easy and fun. Be careful though and take lots of notes from the book because she sometimes gives out wrong information and will mark it wrong on the test even though it's what she said. Read the material and take notes and you will get an A.
had her for eng 102, and i took her for 231, easy and fun teacher just go to class and get the notes. four easy exams if u study.
She is extremely helpful and way fun. she makes her class interesting and exciting. you MUST read the stories before you come to class thuogh. she'll give you all the notes for the test and as long as you write them down and study them you'll totally pass with an A. As her advice on your papers and you'll fly through with an A!
Very outspoken, loud, and you will not be bored in this class.
A great, entertaining teacher. just read the book in whatever she gives u, take notes if need be. tests are easy. Even though, i don't like essays (and i never will) she grades it fair. recommend anyone to take this class
My first semester ever in college, and I must say her readings are accurate. Fischer is an excellent teacher, no-nonsense, not boring either, very lively and funny. She's extremely helpful with questions, and she does take attendance, so bring your book everyday! Very great experience, I've learned a good deal from her.
I'm taking eng102 with her at the moment. She is full of humor and makes an english class actually fun. She's also great at acting the characters in the shortstory/plays in the book. She is always willing to help you if you need help. And replies the same day if you send her an email. I highly recommend her for eng 102.
Fischer is amazing. This woman knows everything there is to know about English. She is totally personable. Ask her any question and she will answer it. I def. recommend this professor.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Professor is very entertaining and funny, test are not hard if you take notes. Not mandatory to come to class, but she puts everything for the test on the board. NO TERM PAPERS. Makes class interesting, relates all the reading material to real life. Great class!
Read the reviews here and took the 231 class. Ver easy to get a good grade in this class. However, taking reading seriously, I found it disappointing that she dumbs the lectures down to appeal to the whole class. When reviewing stories she skips almost entire pages at a time. If you have not read the story then lectures will be hard to follow.
she is a fabulous teacher in the campus and a magnificent such a easy going person and has great personality.I LOVE YOU PROFESSOR..
I would highly recommend this instructor. She goes over the notes that will appear on her test, all you have toi do is be in class. Her personality is great, a pleasure to be in her class.
TAKE HER!!! EASY A!!! She's great to start off your college with. Only 4 essays for the semester and NO TESTS except for the final, which is just an in-class essay. She's hilarious and gives many opportunities to turn in late work!
Shelley is great. She's is extremely funny. She gets the class involved in discussion and relates the stories to the real world. No term paper. Take notes and read, you'll get an A. I recommend this professor. WishI was takin more english classes.
Professor Fischer was one of the best teachers I had. Her class was never boring and she explained the process of writing each essay so well. She was always helpful and very understanding. She was very nice and funny. Gave me confidence in my writing. I HIGHLY recommend her. Im going to take her again for ENG 102.
She knows what she teaches extremely well. Some of it she seems to skip over, as there were always some questions on the test that didn't seem to be taught. She isn't as easy as everyone said, but she is a great professor.
Overall she is very good teacher. She knows her stuff and makes it interesting. HOWEVER*** You do NOT have to do the presentation at the end!! She will threaten that you do- But It is NOT reflected in your grade. So- Take my advice and don't waste your time doing it- take those last days off!!
Freakin Fabulous Professor. Knows exactly what shes talking about. The class goes a lot smoother if you participate and show up every day. shell grade you at the end for those pt.'s. o yeah and bring your book because most likely you'll be using it.
Professor Fischer is very nice and funny! You have to read and take good notes to get an A. I recommend her-great professor.
Great Professor! Pay attention and participate. Very helpful when you ask. She is clear at what she expects from her students.
Professor Fischer knows the information she is teaching very well. You must take great notes and show up to class to get the information. She also picks great literature to discuss. I enjoyed the class!
"Abandon all hope, all ye who enter." Oh thats doubly ironic. This class is meticulous torcher. The memorization of random facts about fictional characters will make one more educated? Don't attempt to decipher what's important, it is the most arbitrary of details that shows up on the test. Memorize, regurgitate, yes. Learn its significance?Hahaha!
Professor Fischer is great! sometimes her lectures are boring but some of her stories make up for it. Easy class, easy A
Professor Fischer the best professor that I have ever had, hands down. Follow her instructions, and you will do well. She makes the class fun and the summer flew.
AWESOME PROFESSOR. EXCELLENT CLASS. TO THE PREVIOUS POSTER>IF YOU DID NOT LIKE THE MATERIAL, YOU SHOULD HAVE DROPPED THE CLASS. MAYBE TAKE ANOTHER MATH OR ENGINEERING CLASS.
Cool Woman!Knows what she is teaching, very emotional, and very interesting. This was the first time I really enjoyed English class. She teaches in a very interesting way, and makes everything clear to understand. The tests are quite hard, you have to write out all answers, no multiple choice, and attendance is mandatory. I loved her class!
Dr. Fischer is seriously the best professor I have had. She is extremely helpful if you need anything! She is fun, and makes people actually want to take the class. Only 4 essays and a final:)
Fischer is a awesome teacher! She is so funny and nice, and extremely helpful! If you need anything at all, you can get help at her office hours!! The most caring and helpful teacher I have had........:)
Professor Fischer is a little intimidating at first. Don't let that put you off - She was great! She makes the class very interesting. If you attend, READ the material assigned, listen and participate in class (she loves interaction) - you should not have to much trouble with her exams. I recommend her. Use MLA format on Term Paper!!!
Based of your ratings we know that you are going to circle 8 bolgia 10 for writing all these comments about yourself prof. Fisher. People from seventh circle middle ring are welcome to this class.
Prof. is a very good prof. She lets all her students know when she is available for help. Her class isn't easy, but its not hard either, as a student you have to pay attention, especially when reading the assigned work. She will ask questions that might seem far from the subject but they are not.
There are only 4 papers required and they must be two pages each. The final exam is easy, just read the stories and write down what she says the class before, because she gives you all the answers. If you need help just come into her office and she'll edit your paper for you, but peer editing in her class is required first. Has interesting lectures
Professor Fischer is great! She is very helpful. You do need to do the reading and take good notes and you will be able to ace the class.
Must do all reading! She is an awesome person overall and encourages that you voice your opinions about the reading. The class is not easy but if you do the reading and get involved in dicussion you'll find the class to be very enoyable. She likes people who talk about the subject besides if you dicuss it the more you understand!
Prof. Fischer is amazing. I would just like to say that you definitely do have to WORK for your grade in this class, but she makes sure that you know she will help you with anything you need. My first impression was that she is cynical and unapproachable but in the end I started to realize how HILARIOUS her cynicism was. I love this teacher!
Prof. Fischer is one of the reasons this place is still open in my opinionl. She comes off cynical at the beginning.....and the end but you start finding it funny after the first week or so of class. She will go out of her way to help you so I definitely recommend taking her for your english needs.
Fisher is really cool. she tries to make class interesting. The papers were interesting. Some people dont like her but i dont know why. She is very nice and if you need help or have any questions, she really encourages you to come to her office hours.
How odd that people rate her so well! I really like her as a person. She knows her stuff but she isn't easy! Sometimes funny in class but for ENG LIT you HAVE TO STUDY! HARD for Dante! You MUST take notes and pay attention! Missing classes is not a good idea with her. A LOT of people drop her.Tests are fill in the blank.
SHe is the BEST teacher ever!!!!!! SHE is tough and you have to do work but she is amazing! I would take her again if i had to take more eng classes..she is funny and very helpful! she will help you if you go to her office but she expects you to do your part. DO NOT ever NOT read a story for class.. she will call you out and yell! SHE IS THE BEST!
She is very nice. She made my summer class so interesting. There was only 3 essays to write and youn can choose the topic. Final exam was 50 questions. (short answer). No homework or quizzes. She is cool. Take her class.
Professor Fischer was a blast to take this summer. I actually feel confident when writing a paper, thanks to her great help. I would highly recommend this professor if you want to have fun while learning English!
I took professor Fischer this past July and it was a very enjoyable class. She is passionate about the subject and the material used was very interesting. Three blue-book exams and no papers made for a stress-free summer session. Pay attention in class, take good notes and a good grade is assured.
She's the best of the best! I learned a lot from her and I took both 102 & 231 in Summer'09. Just listen and take notes esp. what she writes in the board most likely you'll see it in the exam. She is very helpful and don't be afraid to ask she's always there to help you. Lovely and wonderful professor!!! I would take her again and I recommend her t
This lady makes you remember random things from a 26 page play. This class is pointless, she doesn't teach anything worth while AND she is an extreme **** who doesn't help.
I love Prof. Fischer!!!! She is so funny and is truly an educated woman. She definitely shouldn't be teaching in this West coast dump, she belongs in a big East coast university. She tells you exactly what you need to do to pass her class, no funny business, get the picture. I loved her humor, teaching style, comments, personalty. She is awesome.
She makes class lectures & her stories interesting/humorous. Only class I actually rarely fell asleep in. She let's you rewrite essays and she helps all her students individually. I definitely recommend her for first timers. Easy class if english is your first language.
she's the most brilliant teacher i ave ever taken in english. very funny and very intelligent. trust me! if you love reading literature and want to know more, take her!
Professor Fischer was my first English teacher in 3 years and I loved her class. She takes time to talk to students about their grades individually, does rough draft essay grading in class so you have an idea of how to fix your essay before you turn it in, and is very witty and funny. I loved her class and would take her again if I could.
Prof. Fischer is awesome. She explains everything, and tries to make class entertaining. Go to class and write your papers and you are sure to get a good grade. AWESOME CLASS :)
LOVED her class! She's super funny and the stories on the syllabus were great! Took her Fall 2009 but she'll be on sabbatical through the Spring 10 semester. She asks a lot of random facts but the stories aren't that long to begin with. If she writes something on the board, make sure you know it. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN! SMART woman!
she is the best professor in csn........
I took her for both ENG 101 and 102 my freshman year. She is awesome. She loves the subject and shares that with you. She does expect you to read and be prepared by shes a wonderful teacher. I highly recommend her.
Prof. Fischer is one of the best teachers at CSN. I took her during the summer and let me tell you that getting up at 6 in the morning and drive from Green Valley to the WCHARL campus was TOTALLY worth it. We only had 3 short papers (2pgs ea) and the rest was conversation, videos, & guest speakers. If you can take her, it would be a smart decision.
Professor Fischer is incredibly nice and helpful. For this class, all you need to do is attend class and keep up with the readings. She goes over the exams the class prior to the exam day. Four exams dealing with the readings for the semester and no homework. Easy as pie, that is if only you attend class. Textbook is needed: "Western Literature"
Such a refreshing class. Professor Fischer embodies what every instructor should be like. She engages her students to share their thoughts and ideas on the stories. Attendance is mandatory - for key notes on exams and it will strengthen your comprehension of what you have read. The presentations were fascinating. This class was worth taking.
She is completely awesome. I'm by no means big into literature, but she really engages her students and makes class fun. In addition, for this being a composition class we had only one 5 page paper due all semester, and theh she canceled our presentations. She is great, take this class.
I think Professor Fischer is the most interesting World lit. teacher. She gives life lesson examples that you can actually use in life. I almost had a B on her class, but I got so lazy at the end I end up with an C+. She is a must for English. Take her, extremely helpful and she gives time for questions. hope you all have fun taking her class.
I loved this english teacher! She was really nice, funny, and outgoing. She really wants you to be interested. She is very easy & so are her tests if you read the assignments. She made english a lot of fun!!
Love her! She graduated from prestigious schools and knows her stuff, but her class was easier than my high school AP classes. One paper due all semester, tests straight from text and she goes over everything in class. Very fair, no reason why you shouldn't get an easy A. Def taking her for next Eng class.
Great character. We go over plays, poems, and such (stuff I'm not even interested in) and she makes it very enjoyable. The reading isn't required, but it helps on her tests. She just brings to stories to life as she reads them, or sometimes someone from the class (she doesn't call on you if you don't want to read). Most of the time she's reading.
AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING! Just make sure you read and copy all the notes that she gives you. That's the key on getting an A on her class.:D
This isn't a hard class at all, you just have to take good notes and read the assigned readings from the book. You're only graded on five exams that are short answers. Make up exams are much harder than the regular exams.
Awesome professor. She truly makes reading fun. The stuff she assigns you to read is both beautiful and cool. Because of her, I am now in love with one of the authors we read. Please take her, you won't regret it. She is funny, too.
Professor Fischer is just a wonderful english teacher. I took her for summer school and it was a breeze. All the required readings were done in class, and she showed us the film afterwards, and did a review of what would be on the tests. No papers, No midterm or final. Take her class! She's extremely helpful and makes english easy!
LOVE HER!!! She is probably one of my favorite teachers by far!!! Please take her if you get the opportunity!! Awesome personality, great teacher, she has a great sence of humor and makes English fun!!!
Professor Fischer is an awesome teacher. She helps you with papers and she really does want the best for you. The one problem I had with her was her writing. It was hard to read her comments, BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HER.
Best professor ever! Very helpful with essays and makes the lectures interesting. clearly says what she wants done, just do it and you'll do GREAT! final exam is easy if you show up to class and take notes. take her!
Really great professor. If you're taking her 101 class, the only grades she bases on are 4 essays. If you get a D or an F or have a lot of errors, she lets you rewrite it. Really easy class. Intimidating at first, but really cool. I recommend.
Professor Fischer is the best! She explains the readings in a way you'll understand, and she involves the whole class. She's more than fair in her grading. Just show up, listen, read the assigned work, and you'll get an A.
GREAT GREAT GREAT PROFESSOR!! She's very nice, likes to hear what her students have to say. Class discussions are intersting and so are her stories. Very clear about the essays! If you do bad, she lets you redo them for a better grade. Final was easy. Just a great teacher and class, recommend to everyone!
Great Professor! As long as you read the material and you attend class you will have no problems with the exams! Book is required , you do a lot of reading but its nothing that you wont understand. Professor goes over stories clearly, notes help!
The most interesting teacher I've had so far!! When she reads through the story it's as if your in the story and its so much easier to understand. I got a C+, but it was due to my stubborness of not studying EVERY part of the story. Literally every part of the story is on the test, including author bio, symbols, plot, etc. Only 4 tests whole spring
Very bitter woman. Easy class, but you are constantly reminded about how your generation doesn't know how to study and read. Very annoying class but simple.
Class not that hard. 4 papers, but she is a tough grader. She can be rude when she speaks her mind. Very clear with instructions and very helpful if you schedule an appt.
Very useful courses. Broad information about ancient Greece and British literature. Took her 101,102,231 and 232. 231 is the most recommended, it not only teaches Plato but also Dante. very beneficial for brain development. A great professor who recognizes your hard work. couldn't praise her more.
Eccentric style, passionate about her subject and teaching. Applies teaching to everyday life. If you read material, listen in class, and take notes you will succeed. Don't use your cell phones or other electronic devices in class! Did not have excessive amount of out of classroom work. Loved this class and would take her again.
Great Professor. Easy to learn from. A bit of advice: if she writes something on the board, be sure to write it (and any information pertaining to it) in your notes. It WILL be on the test. When studying, just study the notes and you will do just fine. I walked out with a solid A and it wasn't hard at all, so long as I studied my notes.
Great teacher. No BS. Read stories, study notes and tests will be easy. She is fair but doesn't like laziness. So again read stories, study notes and you will get an A. Simple. She knows her stuff and is good at it and makes it interesting.
This class was pretty hard. Her test are difficult and she ask pointless questions. The poems, the stories that we read in class are very interesting and i liked them, but the fact that she would ask the most pointless questions made it difficult. Her reviews don't really help., its very hard.
everything that has been said about this professor is true. for her eng 101 class there are 4 writing assignments with the potential to rewrite. there is a final exam. if you read or did any of the work her final is easy. if your willing to do the work. it would be recommended to take her 102 class. she says it's less work than her 101 class.
This is by far the hardest class I have taken yet. The test are hard and she's not the best teacher.
she claims that all her exams and essays will be easy, but it is not as easy as you would like to it to be. she likes to throw in her little twists to make things hard. I have no idea where she gets her likes from. She clearly takes her teaching to a whole different level.
Took this class spring and she gives you a bunch of work. A lot to read. The test is hard. One class is like a full schedule.
She is a bad instructor. Her tests are hard. Don't bother taking her. This class is like a full schedule. Good luck!
I had fun taking her class. She's a passionate teacher. She will try to help you in any way. Taking her class doesn't guarantee you an A, but as long as you do your work then it will be an easy A.
Professor Fischer is a very good teacher. Definitely recommend taking her for English.
Took her for english 102. She is a pretty cool lady. However, I don't like the way she teaches. This class requires way too much reading and memorization of very useless ideas/symbols from the reading. I was expecting to learn eng as in writing and grammar but Study read study read... Is all you get from this class and I learned nothing out of it.
Love her!! Best English class ever. I love her short stories and she is such an amazing professor.
She is an incredible teacher. She makes learning English fun! Make sure to write everything on the board, it will be on the test! If you read your notes then you will be set for the test. The test is literally stuff you write down and right out of your notes!
Great English professor. She makes the stories and plays entertaining and grades pretty fairly. Would definitely take her again. Great class if you pay attention!
A lot of people give her a bed reputation, she's actually a great professor. All it takes is showing up the class, reading your assignments and actually taking good notes. She helped us discover further meanings within all of our readings. Would definitely take her again for ENG 232. Be prepared to write a lot on tests though!
I took English 102 & 231 back to back during summer both a 4-week session. I love the way she teaches, she makes it fun & very interesting. You just have to read, do homework to get a good grade. Take her, she wants all her students to do well. I was afraid to take English courses but she made it easy for me, in the end I earned both A's.
The way she teaches is pretty simple. Show up, take notes, ask questions and you will do well. Make sure to write down all the terms she writes on the board. Learned a lot. Will be taking her for 232!
If anyone thinks she's actually hard, they seriously must be stupid. She's very straightforward but understanding as well. The readings she assigns are NOT hard whatsoever. Straight A's in both classes I took with her. Her tests are not hard either. She can be strict but that's just her tough persona.
This class isn't easy as 123. It can be easy if you make it by asking questions and taking notes, but she's vague when it comes to reviewing. She doesn't really go over everything like she said she would.
I have taken all my college English courses with Prof. Fischer and have learned more from her than any other teacher. If you attend class, read the selections, and take good notes you will do well. Her reviews are class driven, meaning she wants you to ask questions if you are unclear about something. I really enjoyed her teaching style.
Professor Fischer is the best. Her lectures are simple and very easy to understand. If you don't understand them she explains everything to you. Her 4 tests are very straightforward. Attendance isn't mandatory but she covers a lot of material so you should go to every class.
This class was fairly easy. 4 essays/1final test. This teacher is extremely strict on grading (minor mistakes=points off) and can come off as bitter, rude with her comments & multiple complaints about random things she dislikes. However, she is very helpful and will reply to emails almost immediately. She makes herself available when needed.
This class was easy as long as you keep up the reading. However, she does throw in some random questions to throw you off in some exams, which made half the class failed the first exam. Other than that this class is purely reading. You'll love her if you love reading.
She is a great teacher, but she loves reading so much that the class is built for people who love reading. People who loves reading should take this class, but if you are like me dont like reading highly suggesting dont take it. Her test are really awkward she will throw in questions to throw you off to make people fail she say its easy, bu its not
Very fair everything is explained in detail but enthusiastically for the sake of keeping us awake and focused excellent Professor
I took her as my first class ever drying the summer semester. I like her so much. She uses the textbook a lot so make sure to read and she does mark down if there are sentence mistakes or grammar issues, but she usually assigns short papers (mine were 2 to 2 1/2 pages). She also is pretty opinionated but that adds to her charm and makes her class much more interesting. Tip to pass her class: read all of the assigned reading, edit your papers (a lot), and use a grammar handbook. Not an easy "A".
Professor Fischer is great. Her class isn't an easy "A" and is heavily based on reading; however, it's not too bad and I loved her class. If you read the material, edit your papers a few times, and review a grammar handbook, you should be fine. She takes attendance and covers a lot of material so show up for class. I highly recommend her.
She is such a great teacher! I've never has a professor care so much about her students, in and outside of the classroom. She is so sweet, and really gets into her curriculum.
Avoid this professor if you dislike disorganized yet mandatory classes. If you hate a teacher that doesn't stick to the syllabus and never EVER seems to have her stuff straight, then avoid her please. If you hate teachers that make classes mandatory but have useless lessons, avoid her please. Overall, she is not too difficult, just a bad professor.
Great professor, If you need help just ask and she will. Tough in class though, does not appreciate students that show up late. Explains assignments clearly and gives adequate time to complete them. as a student show up, work hard, and revise, revise, revise.I would take her class again!!!
I made the mistake of going in expecting a literature class. It's trivia. No discussion, just her explaining the plot of the stories and testing you on the minutiae of them. Don't even bother trying to analyze the deeper meaning of the material you're reading, it's all memorization and pointless details. A dud if you want to learn anything. Easy A
Some people might not like Professor Fischer because her class isn't super easy and classes are pretty mandatory. However, I personally liked the class. The literature was interesting and as long as you read and study a little, you'll pass easily.
Shelley is an absolutely great professor. She goes over all the readings and makes it clear and concise. If you show up, you will past. her passion for literature makes it so easy to learn from her. If you fail her class then you never read the short stories. One of the best professor I've had. (FALL 2014)
Did a great job at explaining. If i was not done with my English classes I would take it again. It is not an easy grade you have to show up and be willing to read. She is also very funny, keeps you interested.
Interesting and easy class. Sometimes her note taking seemed all over the place but nice lady and good teacher. She is fine with you using older editions of the book so you can save money.
no papers for this class, becuase she wants you to focus on the reading.. the tests are not mupltiple choice or fill in the blank, you need to know the material and have done the reading in detail. there are specific questions, and the readings include epics. she emphasizes the important stuff in class and hints to some test questions though. easy
Professor Fischer is articulate, polished, and wise beyond her years. She is able to convey the emotion hidden by mere words and seen only by reading between the lines. You will learn to read a piece of literature with more than just your eyes. I would love to take another course with this professor. A true professional and interpreter of arts.
The class is very clear cut, she lays out what you need to do. Just show up take the notes and write down what she writes on the board. The most important thing is to actually read the stories! the 4 tests are all based on stories a student needs to read. Participation matters, you only fail this class if you do not try!
I love her! She always gives you the option of buying an older book so it is cheaper. She very clear when she lectures. You don't have to read the material to pass but I recommend it. Easy tests, but be warned with Dante, it's harder than it looks. Study and you will do fine. She's an acquired taste but is well worth taking. I will take her again.
she seems kind of tough but she is not. she just like acting like one. she is so good and easy to understand. very laid back would take again. Attendance is a must because she calls out your name. and you must be early too
Professor Fischer is an inspiration, a true educator. She genuinely cares about her students and does everything within her power to help them to succeed. She asks probing questions to better understand their comprehension, and is always available after class, and during office hours, to provide additional assistance if asked. She is the best!
Shelley Fischer was amazing. Her class was so interesting and she is an awesome professor. Her lectures were always captivating. There were only 3 tests in the semester so you have to study and do well. Don't miss class because it can put you behind. She moves quickly and thoroughly. I would definitely take this class again.
Professor Fischer is funny and sharp. Cant be sensitive. She cares for history and literature and enjoys sharing that with her students. I had no problems with her. She will work with you as long as you communicate. Tests will have a lot to do with her lectures, take notes!
Professor Fischer is very knowledgeable. You basically just have to take notes and ask questions, then you'll be fine. It would be helpful if you know someone from the class just in case you have to miss a class.
I don't think she's a good professor she always said that there were people that shouldn't be taking that class. She talked about politics. She also told us that ESL students are hard to understand because they didn't even know how to write a sentence, I found her disrespectful. She may be an excellent writer but not a good professor.
She's a good professor, but doesn't pull any punches. Make sure all reading is done before discussions or she'll make you pay. Was able to save a ton of money by buying an older edition text. (her recommendation) No extra credit, so term paper and tests determine grades.
She has students read long plays or stories from the book. She also had us do a report on an exhibit from the Nevada State Museum to tie into our readings. It was actually pretty enjoyable. Be prepared to memorize major and minor details from everything you read. They will be answers to test questions.
Prof. Fischer can be dramatic when come to reading the literature which is very fun to listen and watch. This class focus mainly on lecture that best explain the overall summary of the literature. Make sure to be ready to read because it can help for those who need to understand what she lecture about. Other than that, listen and read.
Willing to help with your papers if you need it. Tough grader but she wants you to be a better writer. If you put in the effort you will pass but she does not hand out grades. Sometimes a bit dramatic about how she thinks college students are lazy but still a good teacher. I recommend her class for sure. She allows a rewrite if you fail a paper.
I LOVE PROF. FISCHER! I took her for Eng 101 & again for 102 & I can't wait for 231! She really understands everything she teaches & loves each play we read. There are 3 exams that are 50 short answer questions & one paper that is 4 pages long that you write about a musuem. She is my favorite professor. just make sure what she says, you write.
I am taking this course as a summer class, I was really looking forward to learning about composition but all we do is read and over analyze what we read. She also gives out exams about the reading but some of the questions are not found in the readings. If you only care about learning don't take her.
I take this class in summer and I wanna a more easy way to learn so my friend suggest her to me. But as we go through everything she just told you to read and understand it by yourself. In class she will talk about the reading and go really fast it is hard to catch up and understand her. She always complain how bad are the grades.i have a hard time
Shelley is really laidback. She doesnt assign homework. But it is recommended to read the assigned texts. I havent read anything all year and have an A in the course. Make sure to show up to class and take ALL the notes. ANYTHING and EVERYTHING she writes on the board will be on the test. IF you fail one test you will barely pass.
I loved professor Fischer. She was funny and has a dry sense of humor. 3 major exams on works covered in class and a Nevada state museum paper with slideshow. You must come to class as she goes over everything you need to know. An easy A for me but difficult for others who did not come to class. No textbook needed. All reading can be found online.
This class really tests how much effort your willing to put into college. Do not expect Professor Fischer to just hand out A's. She is the real deal when it comes to tough grading. The upside to this is that you know the grade you receive is genuine and not giving out of pity or empathy. If your a slacker though, I do not recommend this class.
Took her for ENG 101 & 102. 101 you had to write three papers and the only test was the final. 102 you had to write a 4 page term paper on a exhibit at the Nevada State Museum and pick a reading in class that related to the exhibit. 102 had 3 tests on the readings that we did in class and it was fairly simple. I definitely recommend taking her.
the only things that you have to worry about for this class is the tests because those are your only grades. if you do not read you will not pass and if you do not show up for class you wont get notes which are critical for your tests to pass. wonderful class and would love to take the class and teacher again. learned so much in this class. love!
If you are every need to talk to her, Please go to her office :) Professor Fischer is amazing!!!! Do not be afraid to go to her during her office hours!!! She truly Loves what she does and is willing to help you :) Trust me, I did just that. Highly Recommend *****
She is funny, but expect you to do the work. She loves participation and she will give you hints on what to study and pay attention too for exams. One paper and 3 exams. The material you can get online or the library. No second chances, so do it right the first time.
This professor tells you bluntly what you need to do and gives you the chance to re-write your papers.
Absolutely amazing! If you work hard you'll pass the class! Just one Term Paper assigned on Day 1 due in 6 weeks. You have 3 exams written in Blue Books with the readings. She does a thorough explanation to what's going to be on the test and what the readings are about. She's a tough grader but she's fair and extremely passionate!
I just taken her class 102 in this fall term. But I didn't catch her voice when she read the book. She just said to us that you don't need to use textbook. Damn! If you are study as international student, don't choose her class. It must be difficult for you.
Awesome Professor. Highly recommend. If you don't go to class, you won't pass. I learned a lot and would take her class her again.
She's easy-going and fun. No homework and only 3 exams. Very little work considering a 200 level class. Read the material, take class notes, and study. Her exams are definitions and short answer (a sentence or two). Be wary of taking her in the Fall, she has a lot of commitments and you may have classes canceled.
The exam being taken will have some historical questions which should never be on an exam based on English. There are times where it is unnecessary with what my professor does in class that some students get offended by.
She's great! There are 3 essays and a final. This professor is very helpful with any questions. If your essay is really bad she'll let you rewrite it instead of giving you a D or below. You can get away with not using the textbook as long as you attend class and pay attention. I totally recommend her!
I have taken her for my Eng 102 and 232 class and she is a wonderul English professor. There are 4 exams. Show up to class, take notes, read and you will do well in the class. She is a fair professor.
Professor Fischer may seem harsh at times but she is always 100% fair. She has a low tolerance for students who dont put forth any effort. That being said, SHOW UP TO CLASS!!! Shes very knowledgeable and available outside of class. Shell give you a chance to rewrite your paper if its a D or below. I cant wait to take her again for LIT.
She talks a lot, I tended to drift a little. She loves history and incorporates it into English as much as she can. The Peer Editing was not always helpful and I would have liked clearer feedback on essays. She doesn't seem to enjoy teaching this class, but she did her job of teaching the material well. Overall good class that got the job done.
Be ready to work for this class. She assigns a grammar workbook that we never used in class. her style of teaching is very un-passionate, The atmosphere inside the class is tense and makes it hard for people to ask questions for certain things without getting judged. Overall would not recommend unless its your only choice.
A great professor! She talks a lot, but most of what she goes over is what will probably be on the exams. Show up, take good notes, read and discuss what she assigns and you'll be good. I really recommend taking her 231 class. I'll be taking my ENG 232 class with her as my professor.
Great professor! Read what is assigned, takes notes, get a headstart on the essays, and you'll do great. She doesn't use canvas at all. Try to avoid laptops in class; nothing irritates her more. Absolutely NO cellphones at all. She's very upfront and blunt, don't take it personally. The final exam has some tough questions but for the most part easy
Great professor. I definitely recommend taking her!! I have taken her for my ENG 231 and 232 and shes amazing. Read the material she assigns, study, take good notes and youll pass without a problem
she is very rude and very unclear in her reviews and does not explain directions clearly. Explains in 2 sentences. Not understanding with covid happening*I dont recommend her, the class is alright but could be great with a better professor.
She has a great concept of her class of only having 4 exam assignments because there is a lot of reading and watching some videos. But she is one of the worst professors I had simply because she was very rude to me with our first interaction and she doesn't clearly communicate the assignment details in canvas which makes it difficult.
Professor Fischer is a phenomenal choice when choosing your English 101 course. 6 essays all 1-2 paged, no final or midterm. She gives you a lot of time to work on your assignments. Professor Fischer is not exactly tech-savvy though, and her assignments can be confusing at times. But overall an amazing course and gives amazing feedback.
I took both ENG 231 and ENG 232 with Professor Fischer. The class consists of 3 exams with a lot of heavy reading, however, I enjoy this type of class structure compared to excessive assignments and quizzes. Professor Fischer is a very straight-forward woman and provides clear information on what she expects and what is due, she is not "rude".
WORST TEACHER I EVER TOOK AND I'VE GOTTEN AN F IN MY LIFE. She pretends to be there for you but takes forever to email you back. She's not clear on the instructions for 50 Questions. There only 3 major assignments and the last one was the one that she gave me a bad grade. Beware of slacking off on this class bc it can hit you like a bus. Don't take
This professor was the biggest pain in my ass. She is very unspecific, so unspecific she posts announcements with attached pictures of her dog and a painting and nothing else. If you ask her for clarification, expect to get an attitude and questions not answered. She has duplicate assignments posted, and won't tell you which one is for a grade.
I was a bit skeptical of Prof. Fischer at first. When I reached out to her at the beginning of the semester, she was not very specific in what she was looking for. That being said, as long as you read the book and put some thought into your work, it's an easy A. She's a fairly easy grader as well; I made a few mistakes and she still gave me an A+.
Professor Fischer seemed like she couldn't be bothered. There were no lectures, no discussions, and no feed back to prepare you for her grading style. I was excited to take Literature and the opportunity to read stories out of my comfort zone. I was disappointed in this class. If you want a completely hands off teacher, this professor is for you.
It was a pleasure to have Professor Fischer as my teacher especially during the weird times of Covid-19. My only negative is that Professor doesn't seem too familiar with Canvas which leads to multiple spots to submit your work which can be a little confusing. However Professor Fischer is very down-to-earth and cares for her students!
Not only does she not respond to email when she does she still doesn't answer the original question. More obsessed with her dog and her appearance. NOT a strong instructor at all. I could have taken the course and passed without a professor. I honestly don't know why the university doesn't hold her accountable considering all the negative reviews.
Professor Fischer is so caring and supportive! I took her class online so I had to do things on my own time. She has assignments already uploaded and you just do it before the due date, but you can finish all of it early if you wish. She emails every week to catch you up and remind you of assignments. Her feedback when grading is amazing!
The class was shown to be one where you log on at a specific time only for it to change to a do-it-yourself class. She only notified us of this change in the first week. Her email response regarding the topic was rude. Based on the other reviews, I'm glad I dropped this class. ENG teachers in a nutshell I guess.
Cool lady. Teaches well. Honestly, she can be condescending sometimes, but if you're just here to get your grade and go, then this class is for you. 3 exams and she doesn't put grades in, so just keep track of test scores and you'll know how you're doing. Pretty funny and straightforward. You know what to study because she'll put it on the board.
Is easy as long as you read, she points specifically on what is she going to test you. In regards of other comments on her being rude is only because students are either on their phones or distracting others. No homework, no papers, this allows you to use your time in other classes. Good luck I recommend her class.
Took this class during covid, prof. required us to give a speech to a group of 8 peers. Where was I supposed to find these people during the peak of the quarantine? Ridiculous expectations.
I was skeptical of her class since I read some bad reviews. My original ENG231 got cancelled so I had to enroll into hers. She is genuinely one of my favorite professors. Honestly you don't have to read the book as her lectures are specific to what she wants on the exam. She tells you everything you need to know and is overall an amazing teacher.
Easy A. Take it. A total of about 12 assignments, all are essays. She has a textbook, you can buy for cheap or if you know how to navigate grey areas of the internet- free.
Do the reading, show up to class and you will pass, it's that easy. Fischer is clearly very passionate about the literature she teaches on and the concepts discussed. Class discussion is basically a point-by-point on the exams, so take notes on the concepts discussed. Will be taking another class of hers, for sure!
Personally, I really struggled with this class. Although attendance is not taken, it is essential if you want to pass. Only does 3 tests all semester, must have blue book, must have pen, and doesn't use or input grades in canvas. When doing poorly, she questioned if I showed up/ took notes: yes and yes. Confusing grading style/ teaching style.
There is no homework or papers just 3 exams. Make sure to attend every day because if you don't you'll be lost. A book is required for her class but you don't need it since her lectures are very straightforward and interesting. She tells you what you need to study. The only downside is she doesn't put grades in until the very end of the semester.
Professor Fischer's class has a straightforward structure, with a few exams and heavy reading. While she can be direct, her lectures are engaging. I found Unstuck study AI helpful for prep, along with the textbook.
The professor is very clear with her syllabus there are 3 exams throughout the semester no homework. You just have to show up and take notes and read the stories. It is not hard basically for the exams is understanding word definitions and short answers from the notes she gives us and stories. I would have gotten an A but I had 4 other classes.
Class was for the most part quite easy you do need a textbook and it's not mandatory to show up for class but it's best if you do or else you'll miss the criteria. She made us engage in a couple of discussions; everything is fine it's just her attitude is quite unnecessary. She would pick on my classmate and I for the most idiotic things.
The class was very easy. You only get 3 exams and no homework. The class itself was great. However, this teacher was extremely rude. She would judge my classmates for asking one question and everytime she graded out tests she would scoff or make a judgemental comment. She was the most disrespectful teacher I have ever had in my life.
Prepare to read a lot of very mediocre books, be belittled by the teacher and be very bored. I couldn't get in to the other books but Dante was a great read. You are only graded by 3 exams for each book. Don't' miss a day, you'll get lost. DONT RELY ON REVIEW DAYS! READ THE BOOKS! Total drag, i hated this semester and 231 made it so much worse.
Hilarious, and fun in the classroom. A bit of a tough grader but really wants you to improve your writing when you head into 102 and subsequent classes. Excited to take 232 with her, she is a joy to speak to.
Very laid back class. Make a quizlet using the study guides and you'll be fine. No other assignments besides the 3 exams on 3 different books. I was able to focus on my harder classes, study last minute and still get an A. She was very fair on her grading and her lectures were interesting. Take this class if youre taking other harder classes.
Based on other ratings, I am not sure which Professor I got because I wouldn't recommend her at all. She was very disorganized and made it our problem. Passionate but it's true that she has a heavy attitude. Unnecessary.. we're all adults here, it really gets to a point. Please take someone else for an easier and more enjoyable class if you can.
I'm not sure how much my input counts. The class that I had was a Four-Week Summer term. There was only two assignments including a paper in each and a few outlines. Each one of my submissions was around 9 pages. I really enjoyed the class. The assignments were very clear what she was looking for. 10/10 experience
Idk why Professor Fischer has negative reviews, but I admit that I took her online course, so I didn't attend in person. I loved this class and the Professor. She gives great feedback & is a fair grader. Her instructions were messy, but once you understand, the assignments are manageable. Don't be afraid to email her if you're confused.
I really tried in this class with doing extra research and digging into every topic. I tried kindly communicating my questions in emails but she is disrespectful and immature and I never got a strait answer. The assignments are explained poorly. She took points away for things never mentioned and just takes advantage of you. It's sad she can teach.
The professor was honestly was weird. She made us take an extreme amount of notes and most of them felt completely unnecessary. We spent so much time, writing pages of notes without us even catching the definition after writing them you will def have to go do your own research because you're not gonna understand nothing about the definitions. No!
I took her over the summer, which I heard was harder, but I was willing to put in the work. She grades quickly and gives clear feedback. I recommend her 100%. Not too much homework, but make sure your papers are good.
Class is composed of only 3 exams,1 for each reading. Don't expect to actually learn anything in this class as the exams are just memorization of trivial details. While the course isn't hard, her teaching is poor. Lectures are purely her yapping (which often includes her ramblings or her going too fast) as she writes nothing of value down.
3 Essays, 4-7 Outlines of the Textbook (Download online free, just skim it and put the necessary parts in). Tough grader if u suck at writing, grades on paper so you won't get a canvas grade set in. All on paper btw. She reviews after grading & it helps, make sure u know what each review means. Don't be scared and go wit the flow wit her! LISTEN!
She's very good at explaining the points of each book/story/play that will be on the exams. The overall grade was based on 3 different exams, one per reading. Super easy as long as you read them and take notes in class (they're short) She's also very passionate and she can be slightly gossipy at times
She's very clear about what you will be graded on: three exams, and if you come to class and take notes you'll pass all three of them easily. The professor also loves to talk about the subject, so lectures are always interesting. Just make sure you are diligently taking notes because, without those notes, you're going into those exams blind.
