Great teacher! Easy, fun, laid back. She's really enthusiastic about geology which keeps your attention. Quizzes are on blackboard. Two lab practicals in class, but you can use your labs and lab book. Geology isn't that great, but if you're gonna take it, definitely take Mrs. Jaye.

Excellent professor, knows her geology and is enthusiastic about it, but very difficult subject matter. The chemical composition of ROCK. Too much detail for me.

Great teacher always takes a keen interest in geology and rocks - The class trip for the Billy goat trail was amazing with beautiful sightseeing of rocks and river though I got a very bad grade in this class because its difficult and lab is hard but it was fun to learn about rocks and geo in this class I would recommend her to everyone! :)

Awesome teacher. The class isn't the easiest, but Ms. Jaye makes you not hate your life. She gives you plenty of opportunity for extra credit throughout the semester if you need it, and is very willing to work with you if you have any issues regarding anything really. Nicest lady ever!

ABSOLUTELY LOVED MS. JAYE! This was my first science class and I was a bit hesitant since I hadn't taken anything related to this topic, Ms. Jaye made it totally worth going to class. There are several opportunities for extra cred. and there were two fields trips that were super duper fun. You have to put in the effort to get the grade. TOTALLY REC

Easiest class ever. She has a bright personality and will make you feel welcome. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Field trip to the trail is fun.

BEST TEACHER EVER! She is very cool. she makes geology interesting! She knows her stuff and its an easy A class. Her test are all online and my class did not take a final. It was just an easy project! Take her, you will learn a lot.

Mrs. Jaye was frienldly and knowledgable. She is rigid on her policies, but she would try to give you the tools to succeed. Tests were online and she provides study guides. Quizes were difficult and required the most effort. Loves group labs. A bit preachy about Climate Change, but not the worst lab science. I prefer NAS 125, it was easier. -I--

Easy A class. Quizzes every week are little hard. Exams are on blackboard online, open note, but you will still need to study cause they are timed. Probably get low A or B on exams. But will still end up with A as final grade if do rest of your work. She helps you with labs and assignments until you get an A. She is so nice. Plenty of extra credit.

She is very enthusiastic about geology. However, it kind of showed that she wasn't happy teaching our class as most of the class had not taken geo 105. My biggest annoyance was that she has a verbal tick when she lectures that she says "um uh" every other sentence. It's distracting and gets old fast. Do not buy the lab manual we never used it.

Great prof, had her for two different geology courses. easily my favorite prof in this college. great help and lots of extra credit.

Laid back, has a strange voice in my opinion but that's easy enough to get over. Fun field trip to Accotink Creek. Project on it, quizzes, labs and exams make up the grade. Not too hard, not the easiest. Don't buy lab book, can borrow if really need it. Interesting science credit. Labs were awesome.

I went into this class iffy about the subject. I was wrong! Professor Jaye makes the class really interesting and fun! She is very helpful to those who want help. Tons of extra credit opportunities if you're willing. If you don't get a good grade in this class it reflects on you not this awesome professor! Love her!!! Definitely recommended!

She's awesome and sounds very helpful. She's very big on extra credit and is willing to help if you're struggling. Plus there's no way that you cannot get a grade you want by just attending and simply just doing some work in the class. She's very interative, interesting and many students say she's very nice and lenient. Take her you won't regret.

Geology 105 is a fairly easy class but very fun. Mineralogy 207 is challenging but rewarding and hands down the best class I have taken. Show up to class and do the work or you will not pass. Professor Jaye is an incredible professor. She is passionate and knowledgable in her field, approachable, eager to help you-- I will miss her classes.

Shelley Jaye is awesome!! Super nice, easy grader, lots of ways to earn points, and her tests and quizzes are all open note. But if you don't come to class, you wont do well, as her tests are based off of her lectures and not really the textbook, plus there is a lab almost every day! I wish I had her for 105 too!

Lets be honest for a minute, this person "u should take this class if u want an F!", doesn't sound very bright to begin with. Mrs. Jaye is willing to bend over backwards for her students. If you fail one of her classes you have no one to blame but yourself. Her lectures are in depth and her tests are hard. Study and you will do fine. She's funny!

I took Pro. Jaye's class for both 105 and 106. She was amazing! I received A's for both semesters. She is willing to work with you when you are having trouble. It is not an easy A kind of class, it is rather an A if you do the work and respect her. She's a generous grader and even gives out multiple extra credits for students who are interested.

I adore Mrs. Jaye. She's like a second mother to me. After failing geology at another school, I took her class and earned an A. She will do everything in her power to help you, both inside and outside of the classroom. She's passionate about geology and conservation, so if you're interested in the material, ask her some questions. She knows it all.

I would not have posted anything on here if it was't for the past two comments that have been just terrible and dishonest!She has given people more then enough chances, has set office hours, respond to emails in a timely manner and she is there to support you and give you advice. I've learned a lot in her class and she is not difficult! She's GREAT

If you're serious about geology, she will be serious about you. She has great PowerPoints, labs, and study guides. No suprises. She expects you to spend time outside of class on labs and to read the textbook. It is worth it. Get to know her, she is a wonderful mentor. Get on her mailing list, she forwards great opportunities for NOVA students.

I LOVE PROF JAYE! Take her if you can. If you show up and do all your work, you will get an A. Shes so sweet, responds ASAP, wants everyone to learn. Tests are open notes so do the labs, take notes, show up and you will get good grades. BTW, STFU in class and don't cheat. Shes smart and WILL CATCH YOU!

If you work hard then there's no reason for you to not get an A. She's really nice and gives out a lot of opportunities for extra credit. She gives work every class and a lecture in the beginning. If you try and study then you will do fine.

Her labs were a lot of fun to do. She is very passionate about her work and it shows in her teaching. I had a bad prof for 105, but Professor Jaye got me really inthralled.

She's very nice and a smart professor who knows what she's teaching. A lot short video essays for HW (not too hard, 1 page), 4 in-class lab exams (open book) and tests are online. A lot of extra credit opportunities. A research project/4-5 page paper going to the National Smithsonian Museum. She only teaches 105. Will miss her and class. TAKE HER

You don't need to buy a textbook. She provides a online textbook for all the student through blackboard. A lot of lab work in groups. You can easily get an A or B if you do all your work, Plain simple. Loved and enjoyed her class. Amazing and a kind teacher

Professor J was an amazing teacher to our class. Her lectures were fun and engaging and her natural entusiasm easily rubbed off on us. Shes officially retiring but one thing is for sure, Professor J was the best teacher I have ever had the opportunity to take lectures from.

Shes super nice. Very understanding and caring. The class has a lot of work, but shes an easy grader. Email her if you need extra help of have any questions and shell be super understanding.

My first mistake was taking this class online, I am not majoring in anything related to the field of geology and only needed an elective to finish my IT degree. This class is extremely hard when it comes to working without any guidance. Proctored exams were extremely difficult. The professor was very responsive with e-mails and does her best.

Caring human, I wish she hadn't left, but she was an amazing prof. She gave you the grade you worked for. 1 field trip, group projects. Test were open note.

This was an amazing class! I learned so much about the earth and geology. "Ms. J" is very caring and works with you to be successful. Be prepared if you take an 8-week class. It is a lot of work but if you make the effort to keep up, you'll do fine. Not an easy A, but so much more interesting than the alternatives.

Thought I hated science but I liked geology. Took this in 8 weeks which was a lot of work but assignments are interesting. Tests are tough but she gives extra credit.

Ms J is really nice and will help you if you need it but you have to ask. Take it! Interesting class. Who knew geology makes evolution understandable!

Took 105 on campus and 106 online. She's really passionate about the planet and a very caring human. Her lectures are inspiring and you'll learn a lot. Online is more challenging because she's not there to guide you in person but if you ask for help, she will chat with you online to make sure that you understand.

Professor Shelley is really a great Professor. I took a 8 weeks online course with her. It was not easy, there are 4 exams total but as long as you pass two and work well on all your assignments, you could pass this course easily. She has study guide and extra credit to help you prepare the exam. It is not easy but you can definitely get good grade

Course is naturally a bit difficult, however, she is willing to help if asked. Not a picky grader and offers extra credit for each exam in the form of a one page review of a Geology video. Lot of assignments, but none are overly difficult.

Professor J is the best! She is very understanding and willing to work with you so as long as you communicate! It is a 4 credit class so it is tough with alot of assignments so be ready, but she is a gem to work with!! Just do the assignments and extra credits, communicate with her and you'll be fine! Highly recommend taking her classes!

Take the 8-week GOL 106 online course. Many people are discouraged by the 8-weeks, but with Professor Jaye, it's a breeze. The work is a bit more each week because you're cutting the span of the course to 8 weeks, but mostly its common sense and easy to understand. The textbook helps, but isn't really required for the assignments. Great professor!

Professor Jaye has been one of my all time favorite professors! I took her 8 week intensive which was extremely hard, but professor Jaye has helped in so many ways to get me through. She really cares about her job and is a super fun professor. She posts videos for each Module walking you through stuff and is very interactive with students online!

Professor Jaye is absolutely amazing. Everyone should take her. she responds to emails as soon as she sees them. She explains every lab home works very clearly. You should take her class

Professor Jaye is very helpful throughout the course, she provided weekly videos with helpful information as well as walk through videos for the labs. She is the most involved online professor I've had so far at NVCC. This is a 4 credit class and therefore more work than typical 3 credit classes but overall I enjoyed the class and Professor Jaye!

I have only taken online courses and Prof. Jaye stands out because she responds quickly to emails, provides thoughtful feedback, and actually records video lectures and lab tutorials each week. Additionally, she helped write the textbook so all of the work aligns neatly with what is read. I wish every online professor cared as much about their job.

Weekly modules that include: quiz, lab, and concept understanding. The quiz is somewhere between 5-15 questions each time, the lab should take you 5-20 minutes and she even has a recording going over it (which is helpful), and the concept understanding is like 10 questions that just talks about the lesson. 4 tests (webcam, lockdown browser). Notbad

Lots of reading online (no physical textbook). Her own intro videos are very useful. Far more lab assignments than reasonable per unit; impossible to know how much time it was likely to take. Very test-heavy. Several short papers on news articles, analyses of PBS shows. Interesting for the most part, but uneven. Instructor is very easy to contact.

Great professor, gives easy to follow lectures and instructions. Grades fairly and is really nice.

I took an asynchronous 15-week course. Lots of lab work, 3-4 assignments + 1 quiz per module - due on Mondays - has a few written assignments as well but nothing too difficult unless you don't watch the videos. 1 Group project. 4 exams - Lockdown browser + webcam. 4 exams are based on 3-4 modules, she puts out study guides which are very helpful.

Professor Jaye's Gol 106 class was surprisingly interesting and engaging, her eagerness in the subject by providing short guided lecture videos of the module of the week made the course more attentive. Assignments were easy as long as you paid attention to video lectures and follow study guide reading.

definitely one of my favorite professors! she clearly cares about the subject and students, and everything about learning online with her was very clear and easy to navigate. if you are interested in geology, this class will actually be a lot of fun.

Professor Jaye was one of the best science professors ever. You will use google earth, but for almost every lab she has a video that walks you through the lab step by step. She responds to emails quickly too. Definitely recommend. I took a 7 week course but it wasn't that difficult, there was a bit of homework though.

Really nice professor and was very attentive to messages sent when I had questions. There is a lot of work required but it is all very interesting material. She includes videos of step-by-step instructions for all labs, and the study guides for the tests are helpful.

Extra Credit points for all the exams. Lots of mini-quizzes but if you sit down and just do all of them at once everything is pretty okay. Be ready for the Labs that are intensive reading. Exams are quite hard so def study for them. Overall, since it's a 4 credit class + Lab I think the number of assignments makes sense. Just workload-heavy.

Ms. J is the best! She's super passionate about the subject and seems to really care about her students. Her lectures walk you through that week's module very clearly. Expectations are laid out and easy to follow. As long as you do all the reading and pay attention, you'll be golden.

Professor Jaye was very kind and helped when needed. Lots of reading and assignments, but expected for a science class. Labs weren't too difficult- do well on them and they will help with your overall grade. Study guides and extra credit are given for all four exams. I took 15 week and ended with an A. Highly recommend

I took the 7 week GOL 105 course. Pros: Walks you through the labs (even giving answers to some) Fast grader/email replies Lots of extra credit (watch vid, write summary) Provides study guides Cons: LOTS of work & 4 exams Overall, she's an amazing teacher. Do the work and there should be no reason not to pass. Very lenient on grading. Take her!

Professor Jaye's online GOL105 is exceptionally well-organized, straightforward, and appropriately paced. Labs were completed remotely, with engaging and detailed material provided to help you along the way. There is really no room to fail, aside from either cheating or simply not doing the work. Highly recommend taking this professor and course!

No Zoom meetings. Lots of video tutorials in addition to written instructions. No textbook purchase required. Study guides for exams were ok, more of a review. She was willing to work with me when I needed a due date extension. Kinda heavy on the reading/assignments (I took the lab). Eval at the end was extra credit.

The work was nicely paced and the exams were easy and it was nice how it was only 30 question exams. Overall she's a good professor for an online class

Amazing professor! Labs were all online & she makes a video explaining exactly how to do the labs so they're hard to mess up. Two assignments & a lab per chapter, super easy (just read the book or scan it for answers). Responds quick to emails and gives helpful feedback on labs. A really sweet lady and I loved Physical Geology!
