not a great teacher
plays favorites and unnessarily difficult in testing
very difficult to follow lectures because she uses short form writing and when studying for an exam u are SCREWED! do not recommend this teacher!
Inlike the material for PSYC 233, Shelley is a very interesting person. I would say no one really needs PSYC 233 for anything, but if you need a good mark in a second year course- take it with Shelley because she's more than fair.
plays favorites, very hard to approach for help

i really liked this prof. she was easy to understand and was kind to us first year students. although many people seem to think she's a hard tester, it may be because they either didnt come to class or didnt study. i got a good mark in this class and i thought she was more than fair.
She tells you the exam questions in class! She was an awesome instructor and a good storyteller. I would take another class from her any day.
Her q's does not make sense. Those are too difficult. I don't like way she teaches. She should had given more things in her lectures, not her story. T^T. I don't recommand her at all.
Medicore professor with no interest in her students. Preoccupied with her own self importance. Lack proper communication of her class material which results in mixed messages. A very dissapointing experience
plays favorites. exams are difficult to the point of being discouraging. impossible to have a discussion with regarding your mark. overall, a very bad experience DO NOT recommend
Gives excellent study questions that tell you EXACTLY what to study for each exam. The only way you can do bad in her class is if you never come to class or never crack open the text.
Amazing prof - very interesting lectures, great sense of humor, and gives you the questions for the short answer portion of her exams. Attendance is recommended - but you'd be crazy to not want to show, it's such interesting content. Loved her!
Worst teacher I've EVER had, absolutely terrible! Do NOT select her as a teacher!!!! I'm warning you now...
Her lectures are completely irrelevant to the textbook, but do pay attention as her exams are about 40% lecture. She's a little bit off the beaten track but all psyc profs are weird haha. Fairly easy marker but always has that aweful suspicion that your cheating or working for the KGB. Overall shes ok.

Many quizzes, which is very helpful in having to remember the material. It's years later, and I still remember some of what she taught me.
HORRIBLE Prof! Stay away at all expense. Highly disorganized and notes are horrible. You are better off teaching yourself.
She?s a little crazy and disorganized. Weekly quizzes are fairly easy if you read the textbook. Also she lecture portions of exams are really easy because they are taken directly from the study questions she gives in the notes. Overall attending class is a good idea, and keep organized to do well.
I did not enjoy Personlity psyc from her. So many quizzes, and she was very disorganized, constantly chaning the quiz dates. On the day of the final we wrote a quiz and the final. She's all over the place.
Serious? Shelley is awesome...her notes are very organized compared to the majority of profs at grant mac! the videos are actually useful, and the quizzes are opportunity to boost your grade...if you are unsure of something, and is more than willing to lay it out for you very simply. She tries really hard and has a wonderful personality.
I loved this prof's lectures. She made the subjects come alive off the page and related everything studied to real life. Excellent job of introducing current research. One of the best profs I have ever had. Exams were straightforward and if you study your stuff, you will ace them. Clearly someone who takes their job seriously.
I thought Shelley was an awsome prof and would recommend her to anyone taking Psych 104. Her quizzes are an essay way to boost your mark if you read the text book and she made class fun. She has a very good sense of humor and is very personable.
I thought that Shelly was one of the better teachers I've met. She told us what was on the exam and gave us quizes frequently, which helped me to actually keep up studying instead of slacking off. I found tests 100% fair and she was willing to discuss any discrepancies I has. She's interesting and has lots of good stories to tell too!
She's good at teaching, but she is SO disorganized its scary. She handed back one of my midterms with a 40% on it. I was freaking out when going through it when I realized she only marked half of it--I was paranoid she would do the same on my final! She does realize she is this way, she formally apologized to my class for it!
SO, SO, SO BAD! She's absolutely the worst prof I have ever had! She's incredibly disorganized and doesn't care about her students whatsoever. Her lectures are horrible! The notes, the examples she uses and her slide show on Blackboard are completely usless. Better off self-teaching than being stuck with Sikora.
I think she's a really good prof. She is a bit unorganized, and some of her lecture notes don't make much sense.. but she GIVES you the midterm and final lecture questions. It can't get any easier than that. And she will make sense of anything you're unsure of. Definitely recommend!
I cannot believe how hard this class was for an intro class. My 200 classes are easier than this one was. We didn't have time to go over everything in class and it was still on the exam. One time we had a quiz and she forgot our exams. She's okay but I'm trying to avoid having her as a teacher again.
Awesome Proff! It's funny to read all of the comments about her being disorganized and unhelpful, but if you don't attend class and don't come prepared, she may come across that way. As a mature student returning to school she was a wicked proff and super easy to understand!
She doesn't reply to emails in a very timely manor, she changes due dates with very little notice so don't miss a class or you will not know. Her exams are very difficult if you do not follow the study guide she gives you. Everything in class is fair game for the test. She violated student confidentiality numerourous times.
A+ Shelley puts passion into the material, gives you all the tools you need to get an A (ie, straightfwd & detailed study notes), and provides the chance to grow your intellect/academic abilities. Not rocket science, ppl. If one expects to breeze thru & not actually learn college-level writing & academia, one is advised to not undertake college :S.
I have quite enjoyed this class. This prof seems a little disorganized at times, but overall has a passion for what she is doing. She has been helpful when I have asked questions. & very clear with what is expected on exams.
Disorganized to the MAX! Forgot our quizes x2. Never entered much information into blackboard. Very clear about what's on exams, and helpful if you ask. Passionate about what she teaches -->unlike some other profs that teach PSYC at GMac. I would take her class again.
Boring yet moody along with the tendency to make you feel bad for not knowing about a subject not taught yet
Her class is boring to me. Probably because I'm usually really tired by the time her class comes around. She has a quiz every week and they are pretty easy if you ask me. Just read the text and anyone with a brain will do just fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.I like her as a person...She's nice...but...Poorly prepared lectures and slides. She doesn't stick to the text. She's rushed and disorganized. Not approachable outside of class time.Cut ALL classes short.Zero class discussion. TO HER CREDIT...She dropped our two lowest quiz marks and gave us a study guide for the exams.
Her entire lesson plan is based around the textbook, so it is hard to motivate yourself to go to her lectures. She is a fairly good teacher, and will answer your questions well.
For the love of god run while you still have a chance. I put my heart and soul into her class and got a c+. Most un helpful, un caring woman. Made me cry on several occasions.
She knows what she's talking about and her quizzes are fair. She doesn't explain the topic that much, however. On the other hand, I got an A in this class because of READING the TEXTBOOK not because of her slides. Her study guides are helpful though but she, herself, seems to be unapproachable. I think she's an ok teacher.
Very Approachable, was told exactly what was on quizzes and exams, so as long as you study and read the text you'll do fine. Very enjoyable class
Coming back to school as a mature student, I was surprised at having my first class be so fun. I really enjoy her lectures and the weekly quizes are really not that hard, (if you actually follow her study questions). Exams are really easy, if you study, if not, then you really have no business being in school.
Flat out indicated that she does not adapt her teaching style to the needs of her students, but she does seem motivated to assist students. Her marking structure works well for those with lots of time on their hands and can adapt how they study. If you struggle with rote memorization, quizzes and tests can be challenging.
If you put in the effort, you will succeed. After all this is school right? At the beginning of her introductory psych course I was overwhelmed by all the work you had to do to keep up - I'll be honest. But if you truly want to learn and understand psychology you'll put in the effort. And if you put in the effort you will definitely succeed.
AVOID!! Never replies to emails for questions regarding upcoming quizzes/exams. Went to her office for help was never there. Late, unprepared, takes forever to post marks and is very unclear in lecture slides. You basically have to teach yourself...
Wow ... She is the worst instructor I ever had ... Lectures were awful ... Most the class failed the final because the questions were so ambiguous and double negatives ... Avoid this instructor at all cost ... I pulled an B in the class out of sheer luck all my other classes I get A's
I really liked her! She basically tells you everything on the midterm and finals.
I enjoyed her lectures for the majority of the semester until the last few when it became apparent that her organizational skills were not up to par. The final exam was ambiguous and most of the class bombed it. I was handed the wrong exam initially and then the "correct" one was full of errors. Very frustrating
I thought Shelley was awesome! I was shocked to see all the back previous comments. She is friendly, helpful, clear and give us great study notes for exams! Basically guiding us to study the most important stuff. She was also fair with the grades on the exams, and helped us all get as good a grade as possible. One of the best prof's that I have had
She doesn't respond to emails and is not very helpful.
VERY unorganized &disrespectful. often mistakes on quizzes! Although she does give you the written q. for the big exams, and posts all the notes on BB. On a quiz I got 18/25. For those who got a certain q. wrong it was out of 24. Had I gotten it wrong I would have gotten 18/24 but since I got it right I was penalized with 18/25!So overall NOT fair!
This class was ridiculous for an introductory class. Her notes were disorganized and did not make sense. Her lectures were extremely boring for teaching psychology and her quizzes were extremely difficult I studied 5 hours for a quiz and only got 36% when I had a 96% in PSYC 104...
I don't get all of the negative comments, she made the class incredibly interesting. The course was condensed to 3 weeks and she had all the material laid out in an organized manner. She was also extremely fair.
I don't know why everyone is giving her such a bad rating. She isn't the most interesting professor but she did a pretty good job! she does give quizzes almost every other week but these actually helped keep my mark up. If you pay attention, study, and follow her study guides you will do well in this class!
worst teacher ever, doesnt teach anything and only reads off notes on the slides. attendance is useless, everything is posted and no advantage to those who attend class.
Horrible teacher. She quizzes you once a week on the textbook but something gets lost when she tries to ask questions from the text in her own words and they make no sense; There would also be ERRORS that the entire class would point out but she would not change the mark; Exams were better because it was on her material. She was a little rude.
this is an online course and her expectations are RIDICULOUS. there is something due every other day. the course calendar online says nothing about quizzes. each module haas way too many components i feel so overwhelmed. do not take her online class or you are doomed. i have taken online courses before and learned a lot. not this one, im struggling
Yes, she expects a few small assignments to be handed in and there are 5 term tests in lieu of a midterm (I found it easy to study for them; they only covered 2 chapters at a time). No term paper though! Tests are balanced and fair. Lots of interaction. She is very open minded, but seems callous in the rare circumstance where she is ambivalent.
Was 45 minutes late for the final exam and said she wouldn't accommodate for the time lost. Not clear on most concepts. Attendance is important as she uses a lot of lecture material on her exams. If you can, switch to a different prof. She has written quizzes every week that are quite difficult. Do not recommend her.
Awful prof! Switch if you can. Highly, highly, disorganized prof. She is often in a rush and appears frazzled. Last one to class, first one to leave. Doesn't put up the slideshows on blackboard half of the time until you remind her she needs to do so, so we can follow along in class.
She was nice enough just very unorganized and made a lot of mistakes on her quizzes from using the old version of the textbook rather then the new one. Quizzes are right from the textbook. But her questions are worded weird and meant to trick you. I wouldn't recommend this class.
Shelley has high expectations of her students, and gets them involved in active discussion on the topics. Provides complete study guides for her exams. If you prepare and study these carefully, you will do very well. One of the best instructors I've ever had.
shelley is a great prof. Her lectures are interesting and this teacher has more depth than most other profs. Her classes are interesting for the truly interested student. The work load was more than in any of my other classes. Therefore I would not take her class again. If this was not the case, I'd recommend her.
Very random, concepts not presented in a logical order. She doesn't post the complete concept in her slides and uses info from memory, rather than the text. Posts study guides for quizzes / exams; but, if you didn't write something down exactly as she dictated (or worse, you MISSED it), you will not find the answer, and she won't help you either.
Very disorganized, module quizzes for online course were to long for the time allowed . Disrespectful towards students, argued with me about my accommodation letter from SSD for 8 emails! Crazy hard marker, short answer questions can be right from the textbook and she will mark them wrong . Awful prof I will never take a class of hers again!
Very, very confusing professor. She is very scatter-brained and all over the place. I honestly don't understand how I actually passed this class. Putting aside how she teaches, she is a great person, genuine, honest and will always take time out help you out. I would recommend to those who are self-teachers and don't mind a challenge.
If you don't study give up now you will fail but if you really try you will get an A. She tells you exactly what will be on the test so you just have to memorize the stuff on the study guide. She loves to give bonus marks at random times so make sure you show up to class. It was a really informative class and I feel prepared for higher levels.
Lectures and notes are extremely unclear, assignments are explained poorly, exams are difficult to complete on time unless you know everything from class notes and the text, constant little assignments, boring. Really, really boring. Unless its your career, take something else.
She is a scattered in lecture and with her slides but provided study guides for all quizzes which went along with textbook material and are an easy A if you do the guides. She also had "study questions" at the beginning of every powerpoint with q's to study for the final. She gives bonus marks randomly and sometimes does online quiz rewrites.
Found her to be a very frustrating professor. She never answered any of my emails pertaining to clarity on assignments, she marks answers as incorrect even though they are taken straight from the notes and ignores you when you bring it to her attention. There are a lot of mistakes in her notes as well (typos, incorrect links, missing information).
Definitely avoid if possible
She tried to give me a D. I knew this was a mistake so i went to her and it turns out she forgot to enter both my midterm marks in. Overall not very organized
The WORST for online. She is very disorganized. Not clear on what she is looking for/wants. When I tried to seek help before due dates of assignment she would reply after she graded the assignment (SO useless). AVOID IF YOU CAN.
This course was an online class. The lecture notes were redundant. The course was not updated and had assignments and lecture notes from three terms previous. So included in the online notes were assignments that were not a part of the current class and due dates from 1 1/2yrs previous. Prof was not receptive to revising course for current term
How she is still employed I'll never know
I loved the class! Lots of textbook reading, but exams were straight forward. Opportunity for extra marks was always available.
Shelley is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's introverted for sure, and that might affect some people's opinion of her, but she knows her subject. Moreover, she teaches from a deep understanding, not just a rote ability to reiterate what the text says. There's something really special about her. You just gotta listen.
Shelley is a super nice prof but sometimes she has the tendency to get a little distracted. Textbooks are required as there is a weekly quiz based solely on textbook material.
First of all, Shelly is great. She is quirky, strange , and interested in her work. Lots of stories to tell. She doesn't cover everything you need to know on the test but she gave us a good study guide for each chapter. I went over that a few days before and always got over 80%. Plus she's just nice.
Shes quite disorganized but a nice lady. she gives quizzes on every chapter and none of the quizzes have to do with lecture material so get ready to read as they are based off of the textbook, but if you study for the quizzes they're an easy A.
Not a great professor. We spent more time learning about her two sons than the actual material. Far too many classes were canceled for ambiguous reasons such as her being on vacation. I'm paying to show up to class and have someone teach me, not watch videos and read a textbook.
rude and doesnt care about her students
Grades are not earned. She randomly assigns them based on her mood
Very indecisive, which negatively affects class. Changes her mind about everything in split second. Overall not the best prof.
I remember her telling the class a story of how when she first started teaching she was so uncomfortable that she would drive up to the university and stay in her car and cancel class. She should have stayed in her car.
Very condensed course. You had to attend every class, as there were tests 8/11 days. She went over everything that would be on each test, which was extremely helpful. Accessible outside class, helped over email. Informative lectures did the trick. This course was extremely difficult to take in 4 weeks, but if you studied, you'd do fine.
prepares you well to LEARN. The work load is brutal but in the end I actually retained the information which is way more than I can say for any other online psych course i've taken which was straight read and regurgitate. Tests and writing assignments were straightforward and assignments are BRUTAL
Shelley gives you questions to study for the exams, but they are not easy. Lots of small assignments, but they are easy marks, you mainly wright about yourself, so there is no wrong or right. She responses to your emails within an hour, if you were to have questions. Be ready to do homework and read, but the material is interesting!
Even though this course was online, I found it a lot much work. She was not good at grading as even the multiple choice on exams were repeated or had no right answer (I confirmed this by emailing her). The disorganization of the exams was very frustrating and I felt like she never took the time to understand any questions. Definitely avoid
This was an online class via Athabasca University. She was quick to give feedback. She wouldn't hesitate to answer questions. She graded fairly. I was quite content with this class.
Needed to use the bathroom and get tissue during an exam because I had a cold. She told me i could. I come back in literally 30 seconds later and she refuses to let me finish my exam because i had left the room. Lady you let me go. Super unprofessional. Also her classes were very disorganized
Wow tough marker with zero feedback. Changed factual information in papers to state non factual references. I am a straight A student and have taken this course and several other psych courses. I challenged this course as mine is outdated. I actually bought a new textbook AND READ EVERY SINGLE PAGE and she gave me a D+ on my paper !
Loved the course material. Studied textbook front to back. Her exams are ungodly brutal. Every question is worded oddly and tricky meant to trip you up. The questions on exam hardly reflect learnings in text book. Went into the exam with high 80s and ended up with a horrid final grade. Absolutely would never take another class with her. Beware.
Graded well on my first two papers and my third it was like a completely different person was marking it, when I had reached out by email prior to the paper being due she didn't reply, she is to be my tutor of an online course and I received no support. Taking this course with her tanked my GPA... would never recommend her as a prof to anyone.
So disorganized, she literally did not enter my marks in and tried to fail me. And accused me of cheating during the exam despite no proof.
Avoid her at all costs! She literally wants to catch you trying to cheat and will make accusations where there are none. Her dream is to be featured on the news "Local university prof catches students cheating, students have been arrested while prof has been rewarded order of Canada medal"
During lectures she would have other tabs open of which inappropriate content she would constantly switch to. I had to pour bleach in my eyes because of what I saw. It was only disgusting abnormal stuff. One time she glued a strap on onto her back and got on all fours and ran around yelling im gonna get you to everyone and chased out of the class.
She uses a broom to hit her students every time they look up during the exam. If you have no choice but to take her class, here's a tip: don't try to learn, just memorize. EVERYTHING. Including the "references" part of the textbook.
Professor Sikora has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class can be quite rewarding. The textbook is useful, and using unstuck ai alongside the study guide really helped me prepare for the exams.
