she is a very good professor and very helpful...she make sure each student understand the lecture and her class is very easy compare to other professor...her test was very easy as long u review the notes...guarateed A!
the worst teacher in gcc
the hardest teacher in microbiology just run she is crazy.she doesnt understand students at allll
I liked Dr Thai. She was a good teacher. She wasn't hard- the class was hard. Her tests were very fair. I got out of the class what I put into it. In anatomy, she drops the lowest test, in micro, I hears she doesn't, and she's a little more tough. Hey, that's the way, she was schooled. If you don't like it, go elsewhere. she's great & beautiful.
Shelly was good. Her lectures are intense so don't miss one. The notes are online, so you can study in advance. Her tests are COMPREHENSIVE, so study everything. She throws in extra credit here and there. She has office hours to help which was helpful for me. The only bummer is she takes forever to get your grades to you.
Professor Thai is not the worst teacher in GCC. she just expects too much from her students. Her tests are HARD, and she is really picky with spelling.I have never read the book in this class because everything that is ont the test is in her handouts..basically if u study every word of her handout.. u'll pass with an A.
powerpoint slideshows all day long. just reads off slides with absoleutely no explanation.
Very difficult, but fair. A very good prep for University I feel. You can get an A in this class, but you have to work for it. Study her notes first, if you know those well, you'll do good. Book is good for support.
This was a tough class. you have to do a lot of memorizing. if you're good at that, then you would do fine. I didn't touch the book. everything was in her slides, that was good. i did study my butt off. did horrible on the first 3 test d, c, c but after that, knowing how much you have to study, you could do it.
Did a lot of memorizing. Did pretty good after studying really hard and going to si. If you want a good grade, you really gotta know almost everything. Really hard.
THE CLASS IS VERY HARD. YOU NEED ONLY NOTES.HARD TO GET "A"
she sucks i dont know who hired her i like totally dropped her class out of 50 something people only like 5 were left at the end of the semester cause she sucked so bad
Theres like 5 lecture exams and 2 lab exams..... too much material to learn & memorization within a certain period.... book is not really needed... her tests are based on lecture notes. if you study those every night and day. you can a A or B in the class...if you dont try in this class or really study, you will not do well....
Dr.Thai is the worst professor i ever had.She just reads from the slides and cant explain the material.Very hard to get an "A". Dont take her, cuz you will regret it.we were almost 40 people in the class and alot of students dropped her.RUUUUN! Worst teacher ever
prof. thai is actually very helpful and will explain things you dont understand in details if u ask. memorize all her lecture notes, study everyday and you'll do just fine. tons of information to remember! definitely not a class for lazy students!
Dr.Thai is a horrible teacher and if you want to ruin ur GPA,take her.Otherwise never take her class.
She is very unfair.I got a c only i needed 1 point to get a B but she is an evil don't take her never
Do NOT take this class with any other science class. Do NOT take this class with more than one other easy class. Do Not take this class if you have to work a lot. I got an A in Anatomy/Physo and an A in Chemistry but am struggling to get a C in this class!11 Fs after first test! Test are brutally hard. Study lecture notes only. Try another Prof.
The people who commented on Thai must not have put much effort in to studying. For Thai's class she just asks you to study hard. get involved and take part in the class. I found it pretty easy but only because I studied. If you study this class is a sure A.
Prof. Thai is a good teacher. Dont need the book at all, just study off her notes. Make sure you study at least everyday or every other day and you will get a good grade.
i attended Dr. Thai's Anatomy class spring 2010. SHE IS VERY FVCKING CLEAR WITH HER STUFFS. She knows everything LITERALLY.hahaha anyway yeah so THE BOOK IS NOT NEEDED! JUST MEMORIZE and understand the damn outlines! she scared us with MUSCLES but i ACED it. lolif u can memorize a song lyrics then there shouldnt be any problem
Just study! this class is not hard. How does she not have any peppers on here yet!? Well let me be the first ;)
LOVE HER! her class is hard, but if you study hard, it should be easy to get an A off of her. her tests are very straightforward and she does not use trick questions, but she expects you to know EVERYTHING from her lecture. i'd take her for micro!
hard class.do your best and u r gonna be really fine . im 100% satisfied.
she is awsome!me and my sister enjoyed alot studying bio in her class. she is orgenized.her lectures are clear .if u ask many times she will again explain.love her method if u just study her lecture notes you are gonna answer100% of question.just study hard because the subject is hard.study everyday u r gonna be fine.she is helpful.like her alot.
AWESOME. KNOWLEDGEABLE. HELPFUL. I think the people who wrote a bad review for this teacher didnt study. It is college and it is a higher biology class, you expect it to be very challenging. Her lectures are very clear, you don't need the book and her tests are straightforward. Study, study, and study! I enjoyed her class. WILL RECOMMEND!:)
If you really want to learn, take her but be willing to do the work. Sutdy her lectures and you should be fine. Attend SI sessions and do not miss a class, it will help you in the end. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER.
She sucks.PLease some one fires her.She doesn't understand us 20 pages test in 2 hours .We don't have enough time to review.I hate her.She aslo discriminate between students.I regret that i took this class.
Unfortunately, we don't have a good bio teacher at GCC.I'm just sorry for us .
hard hard hard .She is the worst teacher i have ever had.I will never forget u for my (W).never take this class with her....
The previous comments: this is a hard class and you're in college, do not expect her to treat you like HS kids. Hard work and willingness to learn- that's the key. We are lucky to have her at GCC!
this not an easy class not because of her just becasue of the subjec! but yes she expect every single thing covered in class and takes off points for spelings. it is easy to get a B in this class and if you work really hard you will get an A for sure
Best teacher I've ever had! Knowledgeable, patient, and straightforward. Grading is fair. This is not an easy an easy A. If you consistently study and ask her questions, you shouldn't have a problem. She's one of the very few professors who can actually teach a science course in a fun way. Thumbs up for Thai!
hard class. lot of studying involved but her being monotone doesn't help at all. i didn't know what she was saying half the time. if she's the only choice you have, goodluck. :)
If you confident enough take her, no filtration of info whatsoever , She just damps on you ginormous amount of info expecting to know and memorize every comma in PP, and she is eating while class takes an exam>
The worst Professor ever.Never take any bio class with her .No joke.Grading is unfair .She is a rude person who discriminates all the time
Just run as fast as u can and never look back .She is a selfish person who doesn't even care about students .She doesn't deserve to be a Professor .She should stay at home and not even talk with her annoying accent .Even though she laughs at others accent, She has the worst accent:))
The worst teacher ever .If u have only one choice, wait till next semester begins .Take it with someone else.Just make sure ask everyone who is good who isn't.
Professor Thai is a great asset to GCC. She lectures enthusiastically and really understands the material. She will take the time to explain everything outside of class. The course is very difficult, but the exams are fair and are taken entirely from the Blackboard lecture notes. Just be prepared to invest several hours per day studying!
YOU HAVE TO WORK HARD. Very helpful teacher. :) Class is hard but A is achievable. Attend SI sessions and do not miss a class/lab. Ask questions and have her check your essays. Always be prepared and stay on top of the sched. Good luck!
The best teacher. YOU HAVE TO SUTDY. Exams are straight from her lectures, no tricks. Study every week and ask questions. Very helpful. Attend SI sessions. She drops your lowest midterm great. She is actually very caring and plays no favorites. Will take her again and totally recommend her. Very educated. GO BRUINS!
I had Dr. Thai for both Microbio (grade: C) and Anatomy (grade: B). I got a C in Micro b/c I took my science pre-reqs out of sequence. Big mistake! :) Dr. Thai is thorough, the most organized professor I've been taught by, and caring. You MUST study and you MUST show up. She's hard, and expects a lot, but she's very fair.
Oh MY GOD... She is a GREAT professor, very helpful, very organized, very fair, very knowledgeable. I took her for summer and enjoyed each second being in her lab. THANK YOU DR THAI for an enjoyable summer. You are one of the BEST I met in GCC.
Dr. Thai was fantastic!! Micro is extremely difficult and very involved. People who rated her so poorly obviously did not have the right expectations going in to such a difficult class! I left LOVING micro!
Great teacher. Very straightforward tests. Tests are all formats possible- multiple choice, definitions, short answers, essays. BUT she isn't tricky at all! Definitely easier than Beeman for physio:) Still you have to study hard and spend a lot of time on studying. Don't bother to buy the textbook- she posts ppt slides and studyguide on the Moodle
Dr. Thai is an AMAZING teacher. She is not hard at all. You just need to study her lecture notes. If she tells u to focus on something then most likely its gonna be on the test. She doesn't use tricks at all. Her tests are very straightforward.. U will leave this class learning a lot from her.. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!!!
DO NOT TAKE HER. i love bio and she ruined my gpa and im at straight A student.
don't take her. you dont learn anything..barely anyone got A's in the class. i worked SO hard and got a C.
TERRIBLE teacher. you dont learn anything. got a C after studying 2+ hours daily
Best teacher at GCC, one of the hardest class on campus. if you are a student who dose not like to study, this class is not for you. you need to study a minimum of 4 hours a day to pull of a B, 5+ hours a day for an A. she teaches very well and makes you understand everything. she supplies students with perfect notes. that's all you need to pass.
Worst teacher ever. Do not take her class. She is mean and angry.
Dr. Thai is so dedicated to her students. She will show up on Saturdays/sundays so we can study a bit longer. She offers Extra credit each test & some for attendance/SI. We had 6 tests & optional cumulative final to boost your grade. Test can be tricky, especially MC. study hard & understand material and you can pass the class easily. Great choice
Dr. thai is by far the best teacher ive had. she loves science and cares about her students.a student just need to prioritize studying and school and discipline when comes to studying. Anatomy is hard everything in life is hard you just have to prioritize what is really important to you.
AMAZING TEACHER! I am obsessed with Dr.Thai, her knowledge is so powerful. She is always there to help you understand something. Yes the class is SUPER intimidating, its COLLEGE HELLO but there is no teacher such as Dr.Thai. she even made videos available for the models and extends her office hours if ever needed. Can't wait to take micro with her.
She is very nice and helpful!
Highly recommend Dr. Thai to anyone who wishes to be fully prepared for majors in healthcare, i.e., Nursing majors. If you do not take her class, simply because you've heard students say she's challenging, then choose another major. She's an excellent professor because she is a natural at teaching and she truly cares about helping students succeed.
Nice and great professor but her exams are brutal. Too much short answers and essay question. Won't be concise on what will be on the exams half the time. Study guides are useless. Multiple choices in exams are tricky half of the time as well. If you get a D, F, or even a C on the 1st exam drop the class. It gets harder from thereon.
She is great professor. It is true that you will learn a lot at the end of the semester. However, I don't know what's wrong with her grading. Even though I put correct answer, she takes off points because it is not what she expected. You really have to read her mind. Also, you have to memorize a lot for the last two exams. Ready to memorize.
Don't taker her class. She's a boring lecturer, her tests aren't hard, all the questions are from her slides. Problems is she takes off random points even if your answer is correct because its not the one she was looking for. She also holds grudges, so don't put her on the spot or talk when she's lecturing or leave early because she'll remember you
She is passionate but goes off on tangents. Her tests can be tricky but they are not that difficult. She is very PICKY about how you should answer on tests. Even if you have the correct information, she WILL DEDUCT points for LITTLE details. The only way to know what she is looking for in a tests is by going to Office Hours for group study.
Prof. Thai hints at material that will be on an exam. Expect pop quizzes during labs. The exams are multi choice and written. The key is to do well on the multi choice part bc she takes off a lot of pts in the written sections. You should go over your quizzes and exams with her, she makes mistakes. You don't have to study too hard for a B.
Too much information given in so little time. Tests are extremely long and it is just impossible to complete it in the hour and a half. I took this course 2 semesters ago and its very sad to say that the amount of studying I put does not reflect the grade I got in this class. very tough grader. good luck
She's way too much. Honestly your grade will never reflect the amount of hours and nights you end up putting into her class. She needs to understand that not everyone is only taking this one class at a time.
Her exams are way too long. She doesn't realize that all of the material might be straight forward and redundant for her but it's new material for the students taking it and need a min to think about the question. people wouldn't finish their exams but she made no effort to shorten it. I think she enjoys having a "tough teacher " rep, sadly.
Extraordinarily picky on how you answer her questions, and her tests are insane. I took this along with Physio and was able to pull out with almost an A in this class and a B in physio, so it's definitely possible- just be ready to put in the hours and do not let yourself fall behind. Heavy on memorizing and concepts, does require nightly studying!
Dr. Thai is an amazing professor! She is intelligent and inspirational when she talks about her passion for science. Her class is intimidating but will definitely make you strive to be the best student that you can be. She is organized, caring, and just adorable. YOU WILL LEARN! Just put in the work, and you will get the grade you deserve.
she explains everything clearly and her lectures are understandable, however she loves to take points off. Even if you write the right answer she will find some details to take point off.
Microbiology is a difficult class. Dr. Thai's class is even more so. This course is not designed specifically for nursing majors but rather more so for pre-pharmacy and pre-PA students, so many students who lack a background in general biology and chemistry have to work harder, and sometimes even learn how to really study.
Very boring lectures. The instructor doesn't encourage using textbooks. Instead you have to simply memorize all the information that she disorderly put in her lectures. She takes off points randomly with the only explanation: "I didn't expect that answer." One of the worst teachers I have ever encountered.
I loved Prof. Thai. She is organized and gives clear instructions. Her grading is fair. She is very picky on how you answer her questions, but the good thing is that she mentions EVERYTHING in lecture that will be on the exam (book is useless). She gives extra credit for attendance in lecture and on exams. Exams are long, but doable.
Dr. Thai is a mediocre instructor. Everything you need is in her typo-laden powerpoints. She is slow at times to respond to emails and the laboratory, though easy, often feels like an exercise in tedium rather than a learning experience. She knows how to tell but not how to teach. Frankly, she seems burned-out and harried most of the time.
Dr. Thai is certainly a tough grader, but I've never learned so much from a Professor. She's very meticulous, but as long as you keep up in the class and attend office hours, she is more than willing to help you succeed. Her lectures are interesting and detail oriented, but because of that, the information sticks with you. I loved her class!
Everything you need to know to pass the tests are in her PowerPoint. Learn the powerpoints inside out and you should be good. I didn't use the textbook at all. This class was a lot of work but Professor thai responds quickly and answers questions in a clear manner.
She is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. The only thing she is focused on is making sure we use proctorio. Her tests are all short answers questions and she refuses to release the correct answers. It takes her a month or so to grade anything and she doesn't explain that well either. Unless you want to ruin your GPA do not take her.
She is nice as a teacher but the exam that she gave is not make sense . 80 Questions in 1 hour 45 min its just not enough for some student and you can't skip the questions or rewrite the answers . Once you failed in her 1st exam then just drop the class cause its getting hard
Insanely hard grader. The tests are multiple choice + short answer + an essay question at the end. She takes points off if you are missing SMALL details AND if you add in extra details that she did not ask for. She takes off -0.2 points EVERYWHERE and it really adds up at the end, making it impossible to get an A unless you have the perfect answer.
This teacher acts like all of her students are dumb. She gives us attitude and asks us if we took test tubes home on accident instead of choosing to believe she misplaced things. Multiple students had to redo lab experiments because she and her lab assistants misplaced our work. Don't take her.
Dr. Thai is an amazing professor. She loves biology and teaching. Her class will challenge you and you will learn so much. I love her enthusiasm and willingness to help out however she can. 100% recommend taking her class if you love biology!
She includes essay questions on her tests. Teaching is okay but biology is a lot of just understanding what you memorized. I heard the other biology teacher is slightly better. Ether way, I recommend taking general biology sequence at a different college if you need an A but you are not good at science/memorization.
Okay, she's a kind person and knowledgeable professor. But the grading system is extremely unfair. She will take points off for completely random things, and by the time you realize what kind of answers she wants it's already too late... Your best bet is to either take a different teacher to get an A, or spend hours for a CHANCE at passing (barely)
I was so nervous going into this class due to ratings on her, especially taking it with calculus and chemistry. If you dedicate your time into this class, you will succeed. MAKE QUIZLETS. I would make 150+ term quizlets for each chapter and I truly think this helped me succeed. Do not procrastinate and use the lectures!!! She is so so amazing.
Don't ruin your GPA! I never got any grade lower than B in my college but I got D in her class. Yes she is patient teacher but her grading system is unfair. Exams are heavy. By the end of the semester more than half of the class, dropped her course. Because it is hard to get a good grade in her class.
If you're taking biology just to get it done and you don't need it in your career, then take someone easier. If you're going to be a biologist, Doctor (AKA need MCAT or DAT) or anything that requires good knowledge of bio, you must take her. She is genuinely elite. I took this w/ Ochem, got an A in both. Don't listen to the loser business majors.
Dr. Thai is one of the best professors at GCC. She is always willing to help and is very caring. She does an awesome job explaining the material and the 4 exams are based on her lecture slides. She is a tough grader and very detail-oriented, but you should be perfectly fine if you study well. Definitely recommend if it is your major class.

Does not prepare you for exams
Dr.Thai is so so amazing! If you really want to learn bio you won't regret taking her. She likes things explained in a certain way with lots of detail and she is always willing to help you fix your mistakes. Her expectations for exams are very clear and she prepares you well and explains everything in detail. If you study well it's very doable.
