She is one of the best UTSA teachers I've had
Took during summer. Too much info to memorize. Very specific on tests. Nice teacher though.
I also took this class this summer, and got an "A". It is a lot of info, but if you study the slides and take notes, there is no reason to not do well in this class.

very eccentric teacher. likes to dance around and grab herself when talking about statues.
Teaches well, but her tests are very difficult and confusing.
Dr. Roff makes you think. She's awsome. Hard, but awsome.
she a grea teacher, her lectures can be boring at times, but you have to pay attention a study hard, i agree her test are really hard. Do not let his woman stand on any chairs, for her own saftey haha
She's great. My only concern with her is that I had the 8:00 AM class and she would show up at 8:10 sometimes. Real helpful. She makes an effort to make sure you understand the material. She appears to love what she teaches. I would highly recommend her.
A teacher that genuinely cares about well her students are doing in her class. Her tests come straight from her in-class notes (from her powerpoints), and from the study guide and images she puts on reserve. It can be kind of boring, but why skip class if going will assure you an "A" or "B"?
Don't take her at 8am unless you're a morning person. besides the early class though, she's a good professor, definitely knows what she's talking about and quite passionate. Don't really need to go to class if you have good study habits. Just read the book and you'll be fine :)
She loves to teach and expects you to know the test, great lady
She was a great professor who made the class interesting. I look forward to taking history II and I am very glad it's not in the morning. I don't think i could do that again...haha.
She makes her class extremely interesting, fun, and her tests are great and easy
WORST PROFESSOR AT UTSA HANDS DOWN, DOES NOT BELIEF IN GIVEN A'S
You got to be kidding - if you like getting a D, please take her class. Avoid her like the Texas heat in August.
Roff is hard but good. Got an A......not even an ARC major. You have to study but she's really good.
Shes a alright teach, and im passing the class so shes pertty cool and not boring just dont take the morning class!
oh em gee is this class hard. i take notes till my hand is in pain yet i still do horrible.
She never comes to class and she is always late, so if u actually want to go to class and learn, dont take her class cause she is never there. I make it to class more than she does and people for me that is sad.
a little flighty and doesn't always know what she's talking about.
She's a little scatterbrained - this is my focus and I've corrected her a couple times in class. She definitely doesn't believe in giving A's - she's far too tough.
as long as you attend class and study the notes on webct ull get an A. the lectures are sorta interesting (although she is a bit "scatter-brained) and she is very helpful. plus i learned a ton about architecture!! so if youre prepared to go to lecture and devote at least a few hours of studying prior to taking the exam, take this prof.
she's really cool
Very nice lady. I took 8am class and she was always late. Gives very detailed lectures but test format is very confusing. Too many choices on test and if you miss one detail you miss the question.
Hot for a Prof...give her her props guys....
I took an 8:00 Class, I slept a few Times, but seriously, Her tests aren't what she preaches or leaves online for you to study...she tries... but dude, I really have to study and even then, its not a great grade. You have 3 tests all year, none of them are cumulative. I don't beelive she beleives in A's... no one I know has One... I cried Today....
True, she does have some problems with the computer at the beginning of class, but she is a very nice and understanding person. I got an A in both classes. Just take good notes and don't complain about it. This is a university, not highschool. Take your education into your own hands.
not an easy class, but you do learn a ton. her tests require you to know all of lectures and notes posted on webct. some lectures are super interesting, others are a complete snooze. i would definitely take this class again. just be sure to go to class and review the weeks lecture for an hour or so during the weekend.
YOUR GET AN A BY BROWN NOSING OR DO IT THE HARD WAY TWO HOURS A DAY PLUS READ ALL THE MATERIAL AND TAKE A TON OF NOTES
BE PERPARED TO BE A KISS *** TEACHER'S PET - SO YOU CAN ENSURE YOURSELF AN A IN THE CLASS. OR DO THE OLD FASHION WAY AND STUDY FIVE DAYS ALL NIGHT. TO ENSURE A LEAST "B" IN THE CLASS
The Prof covers lots of material and expects you to know it-it is imperative that you attend class (little reading is really required). She produces a "study guide" that covers almost everything that will be tested. Know the guide, attend the classes, learn the monuments and pay attention to what she repeats-especially at the beginning of class.
She comes late and keeps you late. She's a goofball who seems to have an aversion towards Christianity. However, she'll try to make you meditate like the Buddhists and Hindus at one point if you're up for that. She'll also mess with you're grades. She's unprofessional.
Good professor. The tests are hard because the qustions look like this: Is the answer (A) A and C. (B) D and A. (C)all of the above. (D) none of the above. You really have to know your stuff. The hardest thing is remembering what structures derive from past buildings. She's very helpful!
Covers lots of material. Most of it irellivant to exams. Exams take way to LONG to grade, weeks! Their just scantrons and she dose not curve, so run them through the machine and be done with it.
Always late. Test are confusing and unfair. Too much material. Bleh.
Her tests are a little challenging, but i don't understand why people think she is overly hard. I was going through personal problems at the time that i took this class. Hard for me to stay focused, but i still pulled a B. She is a little eccentric, which makes her endearing and funny.
This class is the most interesting class that I have taken yet. Yes the tests are a bit challenging but the class is really great, she gets really excited about the things that she teaches. I really enjoyed taking her class and having her as a proffesor.
She is a good professor and nice and all that, but she tells you about the lifestyles of people back then and things like that so I took notes on that (along with architectural stuff) and there was nothing but architectural stuff on the exams. I figured this out after the first exam though. I felt there was a lot of material to study for each exams
I made an 87 on my first exam and hardly studied; however I did attend every class/took excellent notes. While the tests are a little hard, if you take good notes and make an effort to study a little (about an hour a week) then you will do great! Some days could be boring, but I usually really looked forward to listening to her lecture.
She's a great teacher and she's very nice. She does go through a lot in class so be sure to take notes. Class is generally fun and she never puts you on the spot. If you talk to her after class she'll help you. If you study the online handouts you will be sure to make an A/B, she's very direct. She is definately one of the greatest teachers at UTSA
OMG! I love this teacher, she is by far the absolute best professor at UTSA. This class is awesome, I wish she taught more architecture classes because we need more teachers like her
If you're struggling in her class, she will take the time to help guide you in the right direction for studying. It's not an easy class, but if you actually go to class and take really good notes, and study for it, you'll do well.
There is a reason why the UTSA College of Architecture picks her to speak to foreign countries about our school here in San Antonio. She is a fantastic teacher and explains everything in ease and excitement. Do NOT miss class if you are expecting an A. The lectures are easy to follow along ONLY if you are attending class
She's very passionate about what she teaches. She gives interesting stories about each slide. TAKE NOTES!!! Her tests are extremely difficult. She asks random questions about each structure and gives a very general review.
She is absolutely Bloody Awesome! Her class was the first class i took as a freshman, and 4 years later (i'm a senior now) i still think she's the best professor i've ever had. She is so cool i wish we could hang out and party together
i love professor roff.she made it worth it to wake up and drive downtown at 8 in the morning.shes funny and keeps the class interesting
If we had more professors like her at UTSA then we'd be the new Harvard instantly, and UT and A&M would be kissing our ***'s, She's honest, to the point, and you can actually understand the class (something that doesn't happen too often in the school or arch). What i love about her the most is that she is so incredibly wonderful as a person
Grat Proffesor she is helpful, interesting, tests are easy if you study. Take this class and you will love to come to class to hear her speak. Towards the end of this semester you will get tired of writing notes who doesn't. But great professor take if your a arch student or not, its like watching the hitory channel is person!!!!! she is awesome!
I found her class extremely easy as an engineer major. Not sure how you don't get a B in her class, she makes it pretty easy. Attendance is mandatory, all test questions come from lectures, i didnt read more than 2 pages in the textbook. Test has 3 parts. Building identification, multiply choice, and true/false.
I took Roff for both History I and II. Her class was so enjoyable, and she is so passionate about arch. hist. The tests are not difficult if you attend class and review the lectures and slide IDS. One of the best professors I have ever taken!
I didn't have Prof Roff for long, but I definitely enjoyed her while I did! The other Professor before her (no name) was NOT good. I wish Roof was there the entire semester. But I'm taking her for the summer and I am definitely looking forward to it! Great and sweet lady! :) I recommend her to everyone!
Professor Roff is an alright instructor. For me the class was extremely boring. An hour and fifteen minutes of staring at a power point. The tests are really confusing. She asks questions within a question which makes it difficult to get the entire question right. I found that when I tried hard and when I didn't try at all I got the same grade.
She definitely has a passion for architectural history. Really nice person besides being an excellent professor.
Super amazing prof!!!!!
She seems extremely nice but as a teacher, it's a no for me. I feel she made this class more difficult than it needed to be. Notes are mostly by word of mouth. Tests are timed and kind of hard. She is obsessive about cheating on tests to the point where it's more stressful than beneficial. When this course went online it got even more difficult.
Professor Roff is cool but she makes me hate architectural history. I love architecture and its history but the way the class is set up an hour and a half long lecture feels like it would take 4-5 hours. I dred this class every week.
I appreciate the passion she has for architectural history, but sometimes I wish she would just give the information we NEEDED for the tests. Im okay with knowing extra fun information but she went overboard. The layout of her class is pretty organized. She doesnt explain things simply. The content was great but the delivery could be better.
Honestly save yourself. This professor takes forever to put out grades. Her exams are oddly formatted. The weekly knowledge quizzes are nothing like the exams. She doesnt send out any type off review before the unit exams and her lectures barely help. Find another professor to take if you can. This should be the last professor youd want to take.
I took this as my art credit and I absolutely hate myself for it. The info is very interesting and engaging but when the test comes and you will be overwhelmed. But it was an interesting class anyways. Now every time I go out and see buildings I just recall terms and methods.
I got partially prof Roff, and partially prof Suzanne Strum. Prof Roff talks like she's talking to a bunch of first-graders... which is fine, but not for me. I can't stand slow talking. Lectures were long and boring, reading comprehension check was useless, and tests were a bit confusing. but generally, an easy class
This course was honestly pretty easy and I knew absolutely nothing about architecture before taking it. Not really a tough grader, pretty lenient when it comes to grading. Assignments were fairly easy and simple. As long as you watch the lectures and take notes you should pass.
Professor Roff is an amazing teacher but not when you're looking for an easy A. Tests are based on EXTREMELY specific lecture videos and knowledge checks (easy). There are only 2 extra credit opportunities (course eval and goof-up) and she drops the lowest exam grade. Take lots of detailed notes and sometimes exam questions can be confusing.
She never replies to emails about grades. And her tests are pretty word for word what she goes through in the videos in the modules.
This class was very easy. There is one graded assignment a week along with some reading and videos. The assignments are very easy. My only complaint would be the tests, they were pretty hard and not similar to the assignments. This professor was very interactive and communicated with us the whole time an was willing to help when needed.
She did not respond in a timely manner to students' concerns with technology issues on her side of things. She was not flexible when something would go wrong with the technology on her end and forced the students to adapt to her problems. Information in lectures were not communicated effectively and was very confusing to follow.
Very time consuming class. She includes a lot of irrelevant and confusing information. She spends almost no time on the stuff actually on the test. The reading checks don't help us learn or succeed in the class. She talks to us like we're third graders such as explaining symmetry to us and doesn't explain difficult concepts that are on the exams.
Tells class incorrect information and includes this false information on exams. Feedback for assignments isn't available. Doesn't fix her issues on assignments gives us lower grades. Lectures are super boring and monotone. Often uploads 6 lecture videos each week all being around 40 minutes long to take notes on. Content is very organized though.
Roff is one of my favorite professors. Every week she uploads 2-4 video lectures and readings from the textbook (cost about $100) that keep your interest and align with a reading check that is taken for a grade. The tests are easy as long as you do the readings and are not proctored.
The assignments done each week are pretty simple just watch and read and answer the questions. The difficult part is when you get to the test. It never seems like you are picking the correct answer and the rest are wrong, it always feels like you are picking a kind of correct answer from a bunch of options that could also be correct. Info felt iffy
Professor Roff has amazing insights into architecture and has really made me appreciate all the architectural elements around me. Most of the class is video lectures; Prof Roff's voice is so soothing it put me to sleep a couple times, but the information is there and it's interesting. Tests are really specific, so take notes on EVERYTHING they say.
This was my hardest class and I do regret taking it. Homework is easy but doesn't prepare you for the exams which are 80% of your grade and seem impossible. It is an online class and she uses honorlock but only to prevent you from switching to other tabs. She speaks slow but you can put her lectures in 2x. Nice but very hard.
She's a very good professor, her teaching is quite slow, but she does get to the point of her lectures. Her assignments are easy but beware of her exams they come off quite confusing. It was a lot of 17 T/F questions and 17 multiple choice questions. She' always offering to help when it comes to studying. She very considerate of students.
Her weekly videos are extremely boring with a lot of the information seeming like it was filler information to make the videos longer. The videos don't prepare you for the exam. The exams are very confusing and you have to guess with almost every multiple choice questions.
Uses honor lock for exams. Exams are very difficult and 9/10 questions come straight from lecture. HW assignments every week, usually there is a quizlet for answers. Hardest class I've taken as a bio major. She's nice but the HW does very little to help your grade because exams are 68% of your grade. I would recommend taking another professor.
i would not recommend this class to anyone. her lecture videos were mainly pointless and the homework help with absolutely nothing when it came to our exams. the exams got progressively harder every time and she was not very considerate of her students. if you take this class be prepared to be swamped with so much extra information.
Prof. Roff is very nice as a person but her class is extremely confusing and hard. You will more than likely take this class while in a arc studio and she will not have mercy on you. She assigns more homework than a studio professor. The exams are EXTREMELY hard. This is the first class i am failing in college, would've rathered taken the in person
Dr. Roff's fascinating course is a regimented self-study through many areas of research. Weekly short answers guide you through the textbook. Set the lectures to 2x speed and take detailed notes, and label the flashcards. The exams may not be proctored, but you will NEED a conceptual understanding of the topics in order to do well.
good teacher, but very hard class. Lots of reading. lectures, and assignments.
The course is intentionally designed to be difficult for no apparent reason. Professor assigns an unreasonable workload, then once completed, half of it proves pointless come test day. Additionally, some aspects of the course are outdated from prior years, providing students with misinformation in simple spaces such as the syllabus.
Great lectures! The course is hefty on memorization and learning quickly. The grading is very clear and Dr. Roff is very accessible if you have any questions. I definitely would take this course again.
She only makes you read 10 pages of the textbook per week as well as watch 1.5 hours worth of videos per week. The exams and readings checks are fairly easy as long as you pay attention to the content.
This class was a big struggle for me and others with learning impairments. Roff is extremely organized but be prepared to spend hours at a time reading, and watching the video lectures to get a decent grade. The course is extremely exam heavy and there aren't really extra credit opportunities. READ THE EXAM QUESTIONS CLOSELY.
Professor Roff lectures are well organized as well has her assignements, However her exams are very diffcult and filled with thinking questions that you are only given an hour to finished. She gives very little extra credit opportunity and most of her reading knowledges modules are worth 2% while exams are worth 68%. Good luck!
she is very passionate about what she teaches which I can appreciate. She really wants to see her students succeed and she does a good job by trying to provide as many resources as possible. Reading knowledge check every week but aren't hard at all. The main kicker is the exams, which are still a little difficult that are worth most ur grade.
great class! lots of reading and lectures, but the lectures are pretty entertaining and concise. exams are very grade heavy, but you literally just have to take notes and you'll be fine. grading policy is fair and professor will reach out to help if you miss something. super respectful and gives plenty of insight on what to study for the next exam.
She is very clear in what she wants. She does talk a lot, but I found her class interesting.
