Technically she isn't a professor, but she teaches very well and is pretty clear about most of the concepts. She also has a sense of humor and is pretty challenging
This class is way too general to be interesting, and the teacher's doubt in your integrity and intelligence will probably remind you a lot of high school. Bleh. She has a sense of humor to some extent and lectures move along. Takes notes, memorize inane facts from the reading, and you'll do fine.
The class is ok. She does well in lecture. But her pop-quizzes are just sooooo stupid. Take her if you wanta be harassed about reading material through pop-quizzes throughout the 10 week course.
Very good teacher who knows what shes talking about and can express it with clarity. The exams in the class were very easy, though the papers are quite challenging. Easy B. The pop quizzes on the reading were annoying, as was the reading itself, due to the sheer volume.
ms. hutton is a so-so lecturer in a so-so class. the volume of reading can be problematic at times, and pop-quizzes on the readings do not help much. the class is tolerable to enjoyable for some.
Why do people keep giving this teacher such high ratings? Yes, she's clear, and yes, she is an interesting lecturer, but she teaches complete BULL. This is a good class to take if you're not actually interested in how other cultures thought.
Excellent Teacher! her lectures are very extensive and she talks for the entire 50 minutes. it's imperative to pay attention...but over all she does a great job of teaching the material.
DO Not miss her lectures,if you do.. Good luck. She presents so much that I could barely write it all down. -Funny.. and I loved her class!! YOU should definitely take it!
Not technically a professor, but she knows a lot like one. Missing her lectures is not a good idea, as she has pop quizes every now and then (timed for when you skip class, of course). The essays are really hard, and are wroth more than the exams. Exams consist of IDs and short essays.
POP QUIZZES BAD, LECTURES GOOD. Shes not a professor, i do't know why because she teaches like one. Her essays are hard, her pop quizzes are painful, her midterms are common. She seems to know what shes talking about, and her ta's are hot.
Extremely good history teacher. Walked away from this class feeling very educated and enlightened on the period. Knows her material and knows how to teach it.
She looks a bit intimidating on the first day but if you're into the whole history deal its a fun class to take. She lectures well, not too boring, but make sure you do the readings... her pop quizzes often caught me off guard. Midterms and Final are very easy if you study.
Very good professor!! She's always willing to take time to help you and is very encouraging when it comes to asking questions. The class has a quiz every week, but theyre pretty easy. The homework is easy too.
Dr. Hutton was very down to earth and made learning a difficult subject easier (she used to teach history at the high school level). She readily made herself available for questions and extra help in office hours. I still don't enjoy latin, but this class was worthwhile.
She was extremely helpful. Must attend class everyday to do well. She teaches the class like it is a high school class.
As stated by others, she looks a bit intimidating, but she is a kind teacher with a just grading policy. She tries her best to keep the class's interest and is most understanding. She is a great teacher that goes out of her way to help you understand the material.
Lectures very fast, does not tape lectures, virtually impossible to take notes. At my 50 WPM I had trouble keeping up. Takes her MORE THAN A WEEK TO GRADE A SCANTRON TEST, it's ridiculous. Other than that, a decent professor, not great, but the class is pretty easy, IF you manage to keep up with the lecture.
EASY CLASS. NICE TEACHER. Quizzes were multiple choice and obvious. I never went to class. Just buy Classical Notes and you're assured a good grade.
She is great. Very fair grader (though you will need to read, attend, and participate) and very clear about what is necessary to do well. Her lectures are engaging and interesting. She also has quite a sense of humor. Best history professor at Davis.
Professor has a lot of enthusiasm and passion about classics, and it shows. She made learning the myths very fun and easy, with a storytime feel during class when she'd teach them. She has a funny dry sense of humor. She seems like a very nice person, and she teaches the class well.
This professor is very nice and entertaining. She teaches class like it's story time. She is very knowledgeable in myths. The tests are extremely easy as long as you attend class (which is already fun) and there are no papers or anything. She's a great teacher and it's a great class!
omg!.. i absolutely love her! She is a very caring lady, and very helpful whenever i had a problem. Although she does lecture a little fast, but overall she is great, you will enjoy her class if you like history of course.=]
Very basic, dont look to learn anything you already didnt. TA was cool
Dr. Hutton is a great professor and CLA10 is a great class! Highly recommended. Grade is based on 2 MTs + final. Going to lecture if like listening to stories for 50 mins. 3 times a week. For exams, I HIGHLY recommend doing the study questions on the textbook publisher's website - she bases a lot of her questions on these & they'll prepare you well
She treated the class like kindergarten but was merciless with grading papers and midterm/final. Very unclear about specificity- she literally wants you to write from the textbook/her lecture slides verbatim. But to be fair she was always available in office hours and tried to be fair when you contested a grade (sometimes). Unnecessarily hard class
Good teacher.Im an engineer and had little interest in classics but she made the subject approachable. If you like powerpoint lectures then this is the class. she grades essays and quizzes fair. a good load of reading too.
She is a great professor! I took this class a GE and was not really looking forward to it, but she definitely made it worthwhile. She is so sweet and helpful. I hope she teaches the next course in the series!
Marvelous professor. Understands and adjusts to student's needs when approached. Has an understanding and approachable personality, and encourages students. She also gave me guidance on several personal issues. Exams were based strictly on class material, and of reasonable difficulty.
Not really my type of class, I just took it as a GE. You have to put a lot of time into it but it's basically lots of memorization. Overall it's very well-organized. You have a multiple choice quiz every week but it's only 25 questions and they're pretty easy. Only a couple curveballs here and there. She was a nice teacher.
AWESOME TEACHER!! In the beginning of the semester, she tells you that you don't have to know anything about history, prior to taking her class, to pass. She teaches the class like you have no idea what history is or what it's about. She does power points and puts them online for everyone. Gives weekly assignments, 2 papers, a midterm, and a final.
One of my favorite classes at Davis. Dr. Hutton was so engaging and interesting, and extremely knowledgeable on the subject. She was VERY nice and always trying to help! MT, Final, and 2 papers, tons of reading but interesting stuff! Grading was a little tough and attendance (participation-speaking UP often) was very important!
She's incredibly caring about her students and passionate about the subject. Overall, a great professor.
Grading is based on two midterms and one non-comprehensive final. 50 M/C questions. There's a lot to memorize but if you show up to lecture and read the textbook, you're good. Not everything that shows up in the exams is covered in lecture, but she does tell you what to study for. Wasn't able to go to OH but she's a very sweet lady & super helpful!
You'll never meet a nicer teacher. She is incredibly sweet and helpful and makes this awful required class manageable and somewhat enjoyable . She does not know Latin as well as the other Latin teachers but that helps because she doesn't expect too much. She will help you through every step of the class & will give you a better grade then u deserve
She's my favorite professor so far. You have to memorize quite a lot, but it isn't difficult. She makes lectures fun and interesting. She lets you know what's on the quizzes which is very helpful.
She looks like a grumpy old lady, but she's one of the nicest and most caring professors I've ever had. Attendance was mandatory when I took her over the summer. She has a roster and calls your name to make sure you show up. Her lectures are pretty interesting though and she really has a sense of humor. However, her midterms are pretty difficult.
Dr. Hutton is a hilarious and caring professor. Lectures are very interesting, but she does clicker questions so missing class too often isn't an option. I really enjoyed the class and the professor. I definitely recommend.
Dr. Hutton is one of my favorite professors so far. She is really understanding and cares for her students. She gives a reasonable amount of workload, which are not that hard. Participation matters, so go to class! I looked forward to her lectures since she speaks clearly and adds some humor. I would love to have her as my professor again.
I don't usually write these but she is one of the best professors I've had. Yes there is some work but she really makes it easy and makes sure you know your stuff. She's likes what she teaches and she can be pretty funny so it makes it easy to go to her lectures even though the notes are just online. I am definitely going to try and get her again.
Taking Hutton was the best decision I made this quarter. She's so delightful and sweet, and even though Word Roots is a breeze already, she made it even more enjoyable. 9 easy MC quizzes, MC final, online quizzes (that you can retake infinitely until you get 100%!), and clicker points, and even then your 2 lowest scores in each area get dropped!
Hutton is obviously a great person; funny, caring, and knowledgeable. BUT this class was harder than any 3 unit should be. I took this, biology, ochem and another 5 unit together and this was my lowest grade throughout the quarter. Very specific on the weekly quizzes, you really have to know your stuff. Very entertaining, but not an easy A.
She's a great story teller and lecturer. Just waiting to have another one of her classes. Fair grading and reasonable HW load. For CLA 30, had weekly quizzes more than 60% of your grade, do the reading and make flashcards and you're golden. Lectures can be a treat, so go when you can.
Professor Hutton is extremely knowledgeable about Greek and Roman myths. You can tell she really enjoys her job which makes it so much better when she lectures. All of the homework and readings are online which is great. She does clicker questions every day so you need to attend lecture to get credit for those. 10/10 would most definitely recommend
Awesome teacher, makes Latin clear and emphasizes patterns to make memorization easy. On translations she is less literal and more focused on good english, but there's translations every day. Weekly schedules tell you exactly what to study. Cannot recommend her enough, for any class. She loves teaching and it really shows. Extra credit galore.
Dr. Hutton is one of my favorite professors so far! HW was just doing online readings (which were interesting and straightforward) and didn't take up too much time. Exam questions were very fair. The class overall was very enjoyable and didn't take too much effort/time on my part. Dr. Hutton is a little comical during lectures, making them fun.
She really knows her stuff to the point where if you take notes during lectures and just study that for the tests you can get 100 on her tests. I was never bored in any of her lectures and she is very nice with her tests. Theres online readings which you can read, but her lectures basically cover everything you need to know. Online quizzes are easy
I'm a science major taking it for GE and surprisingly, I enjoyed the class a lot. Midterm and Final are easy but the papers are graded a little bit tough. Expecting to get an A but got A- instead, a little bit disappointed.
She is so nice! And she makes sure you understand her lectures
CLA 10 was a great course about Greek Myth, and Professor Hutton made it even more great with her awesome story telling skills. She is funny and sweet. iClicker participation is part of your grade, and showing up is vital to doing well on the tests. It's sort of memorization heavy, but she makes it fun!
Super interesting and easy class. She makes it interesting to listen during lecture and teaches with great enthusiasm! Would definitely take the course again.
Prof Hutton makes the class really interesting and enjoyable to go to. Technically, lectures aren't mandatory because all of her lectures and powerpoint are online but you get points for participating when u go. Theres a quiz every Friday based on what u learned that week, but they're super easy and doable if you just go over the material
I truly enjoyed taking her class and it is not too difficult. She drops the two lowest quiz scores that you take every week which really helps a lot. You got to go lecture because she does this top hat thing that marks your attendance. Just make flashcards of the terms she gives in class and it is an easy A.
Amazing professor, really cares about her students. Drops 2 of the 9 quizzes and final is all mc. Lectures are super entertaining and quizzes/tests are pretty easy. She also lets you know what each quiz will cover. As long as you do the book work and pay attention in lecture you'll be fine.
I would HIGHLY recommend Prof. Hutton's class. Her lectures are entertaining and informative. The quizzes are easy, provided you study the lectures and textbook. She is very passionate and knowledgeable, which made it easier for me to get excited about this class.
I really really really Dr. Hutton! She's a very sweet lady and so understanding. I really enjoy her classes and her passion. She does assign a lot of reading, but her exams are straight forward. Follow her study guide- she basically tells you what to expect. Her papers are also straight forward- outlines everything very well in the prompt
Great professor. She has interesting lectures and straightforward tests. She organizes the class knowing most people were taking it as a GE and prioritized other classes. Weekly readings with comprehension quizzes you can retake until you get 100, they're easy points to boost your grade. Don't take if you know you're going to miss a lot of class.
Her lecture is informative but her weekly slide of what will be on the quiz is not that helpful. she basically just outline that week and the week before lectures so it's not that useful. The class is informative but the workload is not worthy. also for this quarter her cutoff for an A- is a 92 so it's not really an easy A
If you're looking for a GE that isn't too difficult, take this class. However, prepare to spend a lot of time memorizing. There are weekly multiple choice quizzes, but Dr. Hutton will tell you what to expect and the two lowest quiz grades will be dropped. Lectures are posted online and homework isn't difficult. She wants you to succeed!
Her lectures can be kinda boring at times because her voice is monotone, but she cracks a couple of jokes here and there. Participation is accounted for by TopHat which are in class questions you answer on a device. You have quizzes every Friday, but she drops the 2 lowest ones. Her final is super easy as well.
Word roots with Hutton was a good class. Some lectures may be a little boring but overall this class was a good class. There are quizzes every Friday but she tells you everything you need to study for the quiz. Sometimes you have to memorize a lot of matieral but this is a good ge class to take that is not that difficult.
Super sweet prof, an angel! She truly cared ab everyone's success and loves her job. Might seem hard is if u don't like memorization heavy classes bc that's all this is! Super interesting class if you love language and understanding language. Very useful class. Hw is really easy but don't skip or you'll do worse on exams. Study and you'll get an A.
Shes by far one of the best professors Ive ever had. I dont even know why I took Latin (because I didnt need it) but it was a great decision. Attendance is not mandatory but it is essential if you dont want to get lost during the quarter. Even though it is an everyday class, the professor and the credits it gives you makes it all worth it.
Wonderful class! Homework is tedious and heavy, but very doable and helps with exams. Exams are mostly questions you've seen before. Easy A but a lot of time committment. Lectures are straightforward. Loved this class! Highly reccommend.
I love her lectures. They're clear, concise, and very interesting to follow. Homework is relatively easy, read the notes/entries and answer the quizzes (4 q's). Prof Hutton also has a fun sense of humor.
Dr. Hutton is adorable, albeit she talks a bit slowly. All lectures were posted mid-week and you can just listen. BUT I highly recommend you take notes on everything she says. She doesn't write everything on her slides. All her questions are based on her lectures or the readings. Even if you skim them, you can answer these questions.
I took CLA30 (in-person w/ workbook, no notes), and retook her b/c of how amazing she is. CLA30 covered the greek alphabet + phrases, and word roots + grammar, while CLA10 covered greek mythology + historical context. CLA10 (online + open-notes) was easier b/c less active learning was required: good notes, easy A. Beware of shape-shifting eagles.
The class was a little bit difficult for me because the midterms tested on really specific details. Overall, it was still alright. The class was asynchronous. As long as you take good notes and keep up with the material, then you will get a decent grade.
Hutton is such a fun and quirky professor. She is an amazing storyteller and I always enjoyed watching her lectures. Asynchronous lecture so you are able to tailor it to your own schedule. Combination of short quizzes, lecture quizzes, short readings, and three non-cumulative exams all pretty straight-forward. Really going to miss this class!
The stories are interesting! I will miss this great course.
Dr. Hutton is literally amazing! Shes super kind and sweet during her office hours! If you get the chance to take her, do it!!
The prof is fine, but I felt like I wasn't in control of my grade because there were not many assignments to grade off of, and the TA was harsh on grading papers. Points would be taken off with vague comments, and the points taken off often felt disproportionate to the errors in writing. I definitely recommend the prof. for CLA10 though!
She is so nice and caring! The most passionate teacher I met in the Fall quarter. Just follow the things she posts on Canvas and do all the work you need to do every day., and you will be fine. Not a difficult class but you need to work on it cuz it's a language class. Lots of Hw but they are easy. Easy A if you try hard :D Highly recommended!
Dr. Hutton is the most considerate and kind professor I have ever met. Her passion for Latin and how much she cares about her students and wishes them to succeed really shows. There may be quite an amount of daily homework, but as long as you do the work, it will be fine with the well-organized structure of the course. Highly Recommended!
Lots of hw but was doable. Easy A if you just show up to lectures. A very kind lady and made the class hybrid to accommodate for students with COVID.
Professor Hutton is an extraordinarily caring, helpful, and intelligent professor. She will inevitably call on you to answer a question anywhere from one to four times per class, and she will congratulate you if you get it right, and gently guide you to the right answer if you don't. Overall a very wonderful, funny, and knowledgeable teacher. 10/10
Nicest professor I've taken thus far! Latin is difficult in that it's a language class, but she really helps you understand. She is very understanding and lenient with grading. Tests and quizzes were all open note which was great. Highly recommend if you want to take a Latin course!
Amazing professor! Hutton is hilarious and I cant say enough good things about her. Homeworks are very easy and midterms were online and multiple choice/open note. Great lectures, thoroughly enjoyed her class.
She is a very sweet professor and really cares about her students. I would not say this class is an easy A because the midterms are very detailed and I could barely finish in the time given. There is iclicker to track your attendance. But she really wanted everyone to pass so she changed the grade scale at the end and I was rounded to an A.
TAKE THIS CLASS! She's really funny and caring for her students. Mythology is interesting and fun. Quizzes have unlimited attempts and all exams are open-book and open-note. This is a perfect GE class where you don't have to worry too much about your grade and you can focus on enjoying the stories involved in the myths.
Funny professor. Online readings are there, but I would just skim through them, and listen to her lectures. Practice quizzes with unlimited attempts, she uses 50% of those questions on midterms. Open book, 3 exams total. There is iclicker participation, but you're allowed to miss 5 classes without penalty.
She is the sweetest professor ever and I love when she says goodbye after class. Everything about her class is so chill and she never makes learning hard or complicated for her student. Just a reminder! that even though her class is manageable, you still need to attend her lectures since she does participation through clicker.
If you pay attention in lecture then you will succeed. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a low stress GE.
She is such a caring professor who wants her students to succeed. I recommend taking her class if you want an easy GE. Attendance is mandatory but you can miss up to 5 classes. As long as you attend the lectures the exams are easy.
Prof. Hutton is sweet and her lectures are amazing/hilarious. Very easy weekly quizzes, online open notes/internet exams. Participation matters as 7% of the total grade, counted by iClicker participation (can miss 5). I would take another CLA series class because of the good impression I had through her class this quarter.
She is the sweetest teacher ever and you need to take her class. She cares a lot about her students and will make sure you do well!
If you're not really interested in Greek Myth, the lecture will be boring for you. She makes us do quizzes with unlimited tries for every class and she takes attendance with iclicker. All midterms and final are at home, online, on canvas, open book which is why I LOVE her. As long as you do the quizzes and go to class, you'll get an A for sure.
This class is pretty interesting. As long as you take good notes and attend every lecture, it's pretty hard to not get an A. She's also very sweet and caring and forgiving, makes class fun. Attendance is checked through iClicker and everything is open-note (I think).
Great professor and class! Really manageable class and her lectures are very entertaining. All exams are 50 mins, noncumulative, online, open note and open internet. Lectures available online but attendance is recorded via iclicker. She was very kind and super funny. Take good notes from the lectures and you'll be fine for the exams.
uses iclickers to track attendance after the add/drop deadline, drops 5 absences. answers to the online quizzes on the readings are on Quizlet so you can practically skip readings. she posts review quizzes for them before the exam. online open-note quizzes are super easy, even more if you make cheat sheets out of your notes. Totally an easy GE.
One September Monday at I walked into her class. A few years later, I still remember her as the caring medieval history nut who taught the very first college class I ever took. She was very available, thoroughly learned on a wide variety of topics, and even helped me translate some Latin prayers from my church! Highly recommend!!
Professor Hutton is the best! I seriously enjoyed going to her lectures as they were always interesting and fun; it was like listening to comical bedtime stories. This class is a great one to take with a heavy course load as it's not hard to get an "A" so long as you go to the lectures, take notes, and do the homework readings.
This class was amazing. She is an amazing lecturer. Her retelling of the myths was entertaining to listen to and easy to understand. It's an easy GE that you should take if you get the chance. I want her to be my grandma she's the coolest professor ever.
Great professor, a weird style of class. It's a class where most of the lectures are video-based, and you just practice and work on translations of texts in the class. It's very chill and the quizzes are easy. Would recommend lots of chances to raise your grade too.
Amazing professor. The lectures are fun and interesting and the grading is super easy. You do need to come to class because she uses iclickers to track attendance, but you can miss 5 lectures with no penalty. The exams are pretty easy.
Professor Hutton is a wonderful person and teacher. She takes multiple approaches to explaining things so that everyone can get it. Class participation is required but she will help you if you are struggling to answer a question with absolutely no judgment. The class has lots of HW but given that it is a language that makes perfect sense. :D
TOO MANY UNNECESSARY HOMEWORK and TOO MANY QUIZES. All the homework is directly copied from the textbook, which is thick and heavy. Almost every single question (which there are A LOT) in the book is made into a question online. You have to answer hundreds of stupid homework questions every other day. If you are not a Bio major then don't take this
Don't, waste your time taking this 3-unit course with more workload than a 5-unit GE. This took up so much of my time. Every week, we were assigned to have a unit test, which was AT LEAST 150+ terms. When I signed up for this class, I saw all the great reviews, but she CHANGED HER CURRICULUM. and class is mandatory, as u will have to do a tophat
she is such a charismatic and funny lecturer! the stories are interesting and the midterms are pretty easy. half of them are pulled directly from the canvas quizzes (unlimited tries) and the other half from lectures. none of the exams are cumulative. 3 exams total which are all of equal weight. one of the best GEs I've ever taken here!
She's a really nice and caring professor and actually helps you absorb the material. It is a good amount of homework/quizzes (~10 hw a week but unlimited tries and weekly quizzes that she reviewed before and after) but it makes sense since you're learning the bases of many languages. Almost all of the course material has a quizlet for it ;)
Changed from online midterms to in-person. This is a GE dawg.
Very nice prof! But I don't recommend taking as a GE bc it has so much reading im talking dense old timey language so many weird names and u won't enjoy unless ur already into that. Like 5+ canvas quizzes a week for each reading grrr and lots of memorization, we get it zeus is a registered offender. Don't get me started on mandatory attendance...
If you hate memorization, this class may not be for you! Tedious, but what you learn will be very useful (esp. for those pursuing med/law/grad school). As for Professor Hutton, I like her sense of humor! Plus, the lectures were pretty interesting. 9 quizzes (40% of grade), final (15%), homework (35%), class participation (10%). Easy A if you study.
At first I was pissed about how they changed the online quizzes and midterms from online to in-person but it wasn't as bad as I thought. She gives you quizzes that can just Google and those comprehension quizzes make up around 25% of your midterm so just memorize those. I thought the questions on midterms are fair. Overall, fun class.
Prof was so entertaining. I always looked forward to her class to finish off my day, we all cheered for her on the last day. Definitely my favorite instructor I've had a Davis. Canvas quizzes have unlimited attempts and exams aren't cumulative (including the final).
This was probably my favorite GE course at Davis. Professor Hutton was so kind and so funny. Her midterms were not cumulative and neither was the final. All tests were pretty easy but still have to study a bit. It was overall such a fun class and I wish I could take it again
Very sweet and caring person. I went through some hardships during this quarter and she was accommodating of that. Stay away from this class if you are bad at memorizing. She gives exactly what you need to know for the weekly quizzes on the lecture slides, and those slides are posted on canvas. A 91.5is still an A. 3 clicker 2 quiz and 5 hmwk drops
Easy and interesting class and Dr. Hutton makes the material enjoyable (not that it isn't already). You do get points for attendance which is my only gripe about this class as watching lecture recordings would have been easier.
Passionate lecturer and professor. Heavy homework load and quizzes were not challenging, but required a lot of studying. Highly communicative and cared about the class.
Dr. Hutton is well-intentioned and genuinely seems like she cares. Some of her quizzes are more difficult than they need to be, like she forgot most people take the class for a 3 unit GE. For word roots, having good prior knowledge will make it much easier than cramming dozens of terms before weekly quizzes. Cumulative final so study early.
If every professor was like her, so many more students would succeed. Her passion for the subject makes you interested in it as well. If you attend lecture and pay attention, it will be an easy A. I didn't study much outside of class and still got A's on the exams. Take this class if you need an easy but interesting GE.
She is a wonderful prof and genuinely loves her job. Very compassionate towards students and is a top prof at the uni. Her exams are slightly hard but they are all memorization and if you just pay attention in class/do the readings, its fine. Only thing is the readings are long sometimes, but its worth it with a prof like her. :)
Dr. Hutton has been one of my favorite professors at Davis so far. Her lectures are just story-time that she makes interesting and fun. Lectures are recorded but you get participation points for attending, and I highly recommend attending. There is a decent amount of reading/note-taking, but if you do the work, the class is an easy A.
Prof is great and passionate toward classics. Weekly 25 multiple choice question quizzes where lowest 2 get dropped. Final is 75 multiple choice. Attending lecture is mandatory as you need to be there for TopHat participation. Going to lecture will help you do well on weekly quizzes and will give a rundown of exactly what will be on the tests.
we had weekly assignments due based on some of the readings, a midterm, 2 papers, and a final. grading wasn't too bad if she was the one to do so but she doesn't leave a lot of submission comments: either praise or minor criticisms. she is really funny and engaging. we also did a lot of class activities where we had to work with others
She is one of the sweetest prof Ive had at Davis. Genuinely cares about your understanding of the material/open to questions. Her lectures were always entertaining and the workload was very easy. Exams were a mix of the homework questions and topics covered in lecture. Vey easy to get an A if you do the homework and attend class.
Passionate prof. HW quizzes can be taken until you get a perfect score. The 3 tests are noncumulative and consist of questions from HW quizzes, lecture material, and a few about storytellers and are all multiple choice (require memorization). Attendance is graded via iClicker questions. Be prepared to take lots of notes as slides are incomplete.
Awesome professor, easy class. Exams and final are non-cumulative and half of each exam are recycled quiz questions. Lots of memorization but just pay attention in class and you'll be fine! Great lecturer and fun GE
We did a lot of in class work so try your best to come to lecture. Dr. Hutton is a great lecturer and makes the class material way more engaging. Midterms and finals are all writing, homework is easy but useful, and we had 2 papers.
Dr. Hutton is an amazing lecturer! The midterm and final are all written exams but her study guides are very helpful! There are two papers that may be a little intimidating at first but her office hours are extremely helpful. Participation and attendance mattered but it didn't feel like a "chore." I would recommend taking any of her classes!
sweetest woman ever! easiest A ever. her stories are sooo interesting. Such a fun class!!!! quizzes weekly, no other assignments. 3 exams (SUPER EASY)
Dr. Hutton is a passionate and engaging professor who makes this GE course enjoyable. Attending lectures and using unstuck ai for study prep is key to acing the exams with minimal effort.
Honestly, one of my favorite professors ever. The Latin department provides information about what will be on quizzes and midterms, so it's up to you to prepare well. 11/10 would take again.
Such an easy class, she is a sweetheart and very easy to talk to, as long as you take notes (the lecture slides don't give all the info) and do your quizzes before lecture you're golden. Iclicker is important but she drops a few of them. Tests are easy as long as you study the notes you took.
Really nice and has easy exams
Beautiful formatting in Canvas, everything is laid out and organized very well. Very quiz heavy but the quizzes are super easy and infinite attempts until due date. Reading is definitely important, going to lecture is mandatory for iClicker credit, but overall a great, fun, and easy class.
There's a lot of memorization for this class but the professor was entertaining. There are a couple of readings per week. Reading quizzes can be taken until you get a 100%. She uses IClicker but it's graded on participation & she's understanding of glitches. She gives a very clear breakdown of where test questions will come from. Overall: good GE.
great professor, all exams were easy if you attend class and take notes, definitely recommend for a ge class.
We used iclicker in lecture as attendance. Comprehension quizzes plus reading were the only homework. Exams were just 55 multiple choice questions. Lectures were interesting and engaging.
If you have already taken CLA 030 (Greek root words) and are great with memorization, this will be easy for you. The midterm and final exams were pretty fair; make sure to attend the lectures (because the exams are heavily based on them) and practice with the weekly homework quizzes then you should be good.
Entertaining and engaging lectures, but has i-clicker. Midterms were really easy as long as long as you put in some sort of effort into the class. Reading and quiz assignments due before every lecture, but answers can be found on quizlet! Overall goated prof and an easy A
Easy as all latin classes are. Will definitely call on you in class and participation matters but she is the nicest professor ever! Very easy language to take.
She's very engaging and great at teaching. There's iclicker and exams are 50 mcq questions. Exams r fairly easy if u know the material. Slides are posted but she only puts the names of characters from myths on them, so don't count on slides if you miss a lecture. The course material (imo) is interesting and hilarious to learn about.
Pretty easy class. Two papers (lightly graded impossible to get below a C) One midterm one non cumulative final which were straightforward and are identical to the study guide given. 4 unexcused absences and participation is tracked and graded but you will actually want to go to this class since it has very interesting material. Professor is nice.
Papers were very straightforward and so were exams. She provided study guides for the exams too so preparing was very easy. Great lecturer overall, did have mandatory attendance for the most part but it wasn't bad
I love love Dr. Hutton. I hate history but she made this class really fun and enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory but you can miss a few classes. This class was relatively easy but get ready to read. She is very passionate about what she is teaching and understandable on what you may encounter. Take her
2 papers, very lenient grading. Given study guides for final/midterm that tell you exactly what the questions will be. Attendance mandatory. Nice professor, interesting subject, overall pretty easy.
