You write one article review each week and there are 3 exams. The exams are open book and fairly easy. The textbook isn't too helpful, but she goes over most of the information on the tests. There is one research paper at the end of the semester and she encourages group presentations.
Took her ECON class online. Was fairly easy, as she gave multiple attempts on some quizes. Only have to write weekly DQs and do weekly quizes. Very helpful and realizes internet problems. I don't know how she would be in person, so if you could I would take the online class. Some of the chapters were hard, and having email at your disposal helps.

Dr. Lyman is very helpful and informative. She helped us through when EduSpace was giving everyone failing grades because of test bank errors! I never lost faith!
I loved Dr. Lyman. She is very knowlegdeable and fun. I had her on campus but she allowed us to take our tests and quizzes online, open book, open note and a 5 hour time limit. I learned a load of info and had fun, she will make you laugh! Take this teacher ASAP!
A very entertaining class. Test fairly easy, open books open notes. However, some teest weoghs much more than others so you gotta be careful. A very stress-free class for a stressful subject.
Dr. Lyman was VERY helpful. She is very knowledgeable in the field of economics and gives good, fun lectures. If you need to take economics, take it with her.
Very Very Sweet Lady. She will take care of you if you need any help with Ecomonics. She is also very easy on the grading.
Very nice lady, but the grading system is horrible. 97% or higher to get an A. Requires a 10 page paper with an oral presentation. If you have a lot of time and you're not too concerned about getting a great grade then she's ok.
I took her online class and she assigned a group project, which is inconvenient and defeats the purpose of an e-course. The project is worth a lot of points, so if your team doesn't do their part, you lose points. A lot of work for an online class, quizzes and essays due every week. Other than that, it was an ok class and she was nice enough.
IF YOU WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHY ECONOMICS IS IMPORTANT & UNDERSTAND HOW IT APPLIES TO OUR LIFE... TAKE THIS TEACHER, SHE ACTUALLY TEACHES. IT IS AN EASY A IF YOU PUT THE EFFORT INTO IT & COMPLETE ALL THE ASSIGNMENTS, BUT THERE IS A LOT TO DO...
Professor Lyman was great! This class does require lots of discussion over the discussion boards but Dr. Lyman responds to each post individually. I have never met a professor that takes this kind of time before. If you read the chapters you will do fine!
Dr. Lyman is an extremely outstanding instructor who genuinely cares for her students. You have to do the work but the reward is worth it. She should teach a class called train the Professor for the instructorally challenged Professors like Barry Perlmutter (ENV 101)
Took this in a 4-week online summer course. Intense: she does not adjust the work level even tho it's only 4 weeks. 97 or higher to get an A. Read a chapter every day. Lots of work. I did learn a lot though, and felt I understood the material. I do not care for her grading scale, but appreciate how she is extremely involved.
Took macro on-line. If you work full-time and have other classes this may not be the class for you. Lots of work-two homework questions and a quiz each week. There is a group project and some group homework which is difficult if you have a lame group. Some quizes were on material not covered in the readings and they are timed so be prepared.
I took Econ 102 & 103 simultaneously with lyman online. Previously, I tried 2 other economics professors on campus and was completley confused. Lyman is clear, helpful, and reasonable. Includes each week: Read chapter, answer discussion questions, and take quiz. There is also a group project and one essay. If you have to take econ TAKE LYMAN!
I took the summer online session in 2009. She was definitely NOT practical! 4 exams! 16 discussions! One 8 page research paper! And GROUP research project!! Ridiculously amount of work in just 4 months for a one division class!! She is out of her mind! And GROUP project for ONLINE class? You kidding me?? AVOID HER!
The most ridiculous amount of work ever completed for a 100 level course. took online and in summer. not practical for anyone with any other responsibility. there was so much work due that she was giving grades back a minimum 2 weeks after they were due. You'll learn from the course but why hassle like this if you're a non-major?
Not easy. Teacher clearly explains expectations, which are many. However, she is a very easy grader. Do the assignments in the manner she requests and you will receive full credit for them. The quizzes are challenging. She requires group project, I took the class online so group project was challenging.
The amount of work required is extreme for a non-major class, level 100, but Dr. Lyman is fair grading, and crystal clear on her expectations. The group assignment is tricky for an online class. This is the hardest class I took at CSN but, at the same time, is the most rewarding class. If you want an easy A, look somewhere else.
This was the most ridiculous class I have taken in college so far, that I don't know where to begin. She tests on material that is nowhere to be found in the class notes or from future sections; You are forced to respond to other students work, of which 90% is total garbage and not worth responding to, and in the end they pass the class as well.
16 weeks online: This is the second time that I have taken her (102-fall), it was similar. Weekly discussion questions and quizzes. One large research paper and a group PowerPoint. She is constantly available for questions and will e-mail back quickly(sometime got back to me within two hours). Remains the best online professor I have ever had.
One of the most challenging professors I?ve had in a while, but that is not a complaint. One research paper and a group powerpoint. There are weekly discussion questions that you must respond to and you must also respond to other students responses. Overall I enjoyed her class and would take her for ECON 103 but she is not teaching it this summer.
Dr.Lyman is indeed one of the best online professor. I am currently taking her 4-weeks summer online class. A lot of work but very informative class. Now I understand why she made it a requirement to post comments on discussion board, that is one of the more informative experience ever. If this is my major will definitly take her class again.
Worst teacher ever. Took class online. Vague instructions, unforgiving deadlines, and she never replied to any questions I emailed to her.
I just finished her summer term, it was my first online class and I couldn't have asked for a better professor. There are weekly discussions mostly wed, thurs, and fri. You just answer the questions and write 2 reviews on other students responses. It makes sense since it is an online course she tries to make it interactive. At the end of every week
Took this class in the summer and it was only 4 weeks long. It was very time consuming but I learned a lot. The class wasnt as hard as I had orignally thought it would be. She has a weekly quiz, a paper, group project and weekly discussions which are like 3 out of the five days during the week. BUSY! Great professor though.
I took ENG 102 online. All the lecture notes, assigned reading, homework, and discussions are nicely organized. Professor is very helpful and instructive.
I took her half-semester online course. Quizzes come straight from her notes. You need to read the text book to complete the HOURS upon HOURS of busy work. She expects us to communicate extensively, and is a good communicator in return.
I took her for the mid-semester class, I had no trouble keeping up with the material. I would highly recommend this instuctor
This was an 8 week online course, also took her for Econ 103. Use her notes for the quiz and do what is asked and you should be able to pass with an easy A. There are 2 discussion post due each week and a quiz at the end of the week. Group work and Individual work was easy. Lots of responding to do. =D Other than that, piece of cake!
This has been the most worthless class I've taken at CSN. Very little time is spent actually engaging with the economic concepts described in the book. Instead you just discuss and respond to student responses. Why not teach the material instead of assigning useless busy work that does nothing but waste time?
Consistently 4+ weeks behind in grading. All feedback to students was obvious cut and paste. Teacher appears at times to be degrading to students asking legitimate questions on public forum. Did not learn a single thing from this class. I phoned it in like the teacher very obviously did and still got an A. An easy A, but a horrible teacher.
I took her for the summer session 2012 which was a 4 week course. All of her feedback was pretty much the same all around to everyone in the class. It consisted of discussions (that you didn't really have to put much thought to it because she gives anyone and everyone a 20/20) quizzes and a team projects with final exam. Easy class but useless.
She is a very nice lady, the class is really simple even though at the beginning she wasn't very clear about what the assignments were. All quizzes are on Angel and are fairly easy questions. It's an easy A and the group project was kinda fun
Very nice, very easy but the class is horribly boring. About 10 minutes total is spent teching a concept, the rest is spent on random tangets of her life/kids and the stupid comments the students make trying to be funny. I feel like I'm in elementry school. You don't learn much in class at all, so the hw/quiz's ask more than you're taught. Horrible
if you are a business major and want to learn from a good class, don't take this class. I regret ever taking this class. Waste of money, waste of time, waste of energy. I don't learn anything. No powerpoint. Doesn't use textbook. Teacher was absent a whole week. homework and quizzes due online every sunday. teacher does not explain hw or quizzes.
She recently changed her quizzes from being on Angel to being on Sapling Learning. The quizzes are impossibly hard because of this. Don't take the online class.
Very easy class. I mean very easy. Dr. Lyman is very humble and nice. She laughs randomly, sometimes at her own jokes. The group project would probably be the most difficult task. The exams may be challenging but be sure to read the note and chapters.
Busy work. Lots of it. I don't think she read the assigned homework. If you turned it in, you got 2020. Group projects in an online class due weekly.
Professor Lyman is a really cool teacher, she is pretty laid back in class lectures and involves humor in everything she says. This course had a lot of material to review, but she is very helpful if you get stuck and confused. As long as you do the homework and show up to class you will pass!
I took a 4 week summer class this summer and this class was so jam packed with work! In a week there was enough work assigned for 4. And there was group projects on the internet. I have never had group projects for an online class. Be prepared for a lot of work. I got an A, but trust me, I had to work for it!!!!
I got an A, but it was a bumpy road. Weekly group projects on top of 2 other weekly assignments plus participation on all three. Fairly heavy workload. When asked questions about the assignment, she gave a very vague responses and no real help. Also the feedback was canned, like she never read what you wrote. Pretty easy grading though.
Easy class. 3 exams, team project, team discussion board postings, and a couple HW assignments. She is condensing though and does not read your concerns/problems. She will just copy and paster her announcements, even if you had a question about the announcement.....
Knows Economics and teaches it in a way that's easy to understand. I took Econ 102 and 103 with her back to back, was nice taking this classes together.
This online course is basically you learning the material via reading the book and fellow classmates. The way she has it set up you are only graded on participation. She lags on grading and gives generic feedback on your efforts. It's as if she copy pastes the same message to all students. If you want to learn something do not take!
Took this Econ 103 class in summer, 4 week online. Simple guidelines to follow. Professor Lyman is quick to grade the work and if you follow the directions you will get a 100% on the assignments. A lot of busy work because it's a summer class, but the work is not hard. Follow the syllabus. Easy A if you put in the effort.
Took onliine 4 week summer course. Class was easy and tests are mostly vocab and barely any math or graphs which is weird for econ. Didn't read the book after the first week, just looked up the info online and got an A on every unit. Don't buy the book! If you know how to research online it's a waste of money to buy it.
This class consists of discussion boards, a team/group project, and a quiz for each module. Very simple and easy to understand. You will learn basic macroeconomic terms as well as be able to apply them to current events. I feel I have learned a lot through this class, and it is not too much work. Literally one assignment a week.
Pretty laid back. She knows the material very well. I don't know how she has some bad reviews. Show up to class, take notes and ask questions and it should be easy. I work and I'm taking 6 classes right now, and have been able to do well. Just stay on top of it. There's 1 quiz, 1 group project and 1 Dq for each module. Not too hard. I recommend!
She knows the material very well. Perfect and interesting macro class. Show up to class, take notes and ask questions and it should be easy. There's 1 quiz, 1 group project and 1 Dq for each module (there are 4 modules). Not too hard. I recommend! good lectures too
Lyman is one of the best (mirco/marco) economics professor I have met! She makes difficult concepts easy to understand. She's amenable about tests/group projects due dates and we get out early almost everyday.
ONLINE. 1 quiz, 1 discussion post, and 1 group powerpoint per module (4). Hardly any notes. Mostly online research. Graded highly on participation. DON'T BUY THE BOOK. Doesn't assign chapters to read and each module is spread throughout the book, so you're all over the place. Tests are 100 pts but only 15-20 Qs, so 1 wrong Q, your score suffers.
Every week you need to read her lecture notes and skim the book to find the answers for the discussions questions. Once you post your answers then you will be able to see your classmates answers and you have to give feedback on their work. Quiz every week based on discussions. One tedious group project & final is easy if you did some reading.
This class is based mostly on group projects. There are FIVE total group projects. Her instructions were never that clear and this lead to the vast majority of my partners never knowing what to do. On top of that, all assignments, group or not, required a TON of writing. Take a different professor. It was a chore of a class that I'm glad I dropped.
GROUP PROJECTS Homework is done through canvas easy grader I received an A She relates the material to real world examples Funny you could by the text book but i didnt really need it used it 3 times
I took ECON 102 & 103 with each module consisting of a discussion question, a team project, and a quiz. The teams are picked for you but Dr. Lyman is fair when grading even if you have members who do not participate. I even did ECON 103 in 4 weeks, very doable! Textbook is recommended but she does provide some notes. Great professor & clear tasks.
BUYER BEWARE. Her class is filled with busy work (the other comments here are obviously outdated). 4 discussions a week (1 original post, 3 substantive responses), weekly chapter readings and quizzes, 4 or 5 INSANE group projects, etc. I dropped and picked up another Econ102 and he wants reading (the best part), HW, Quizzes, 2 tests, DONE!
Professor Lyman is such an amazing professor. If its possible, I would recommend taking both Econ classes with her because she has the same flow for both classes.
She isn't much help when asking questions, she always just tells you to look in the syllabus. You have group assignments and if you don't participate you don't get points. 4 discussion questions due, 4 quizzes and 4 group projects but you have plenty of time for each. She offers extra credit on the quizzes if you didn't get all of them right
This class was very great in the sense that I was able to learn and also enjoyable. She makes a lot of jokes and the class is encourage to speak up and join the discussion. The whole semester you work with the same group and have one presentation at the end. Definitely do work on time. She is willing to work with you. Great professor.
I was able to do her class without buying the textbook. There is a lot of teamwork but if you do your part you get a 100% even if your info is different from other groups. Her assignments are minimal but takes awhile to complete. Read her instructions on ever assignment, requirements get longer the further in. Every assignment counts!
This class requires a lot of time, but Professor gives plenty of time to get things done. You have 4 group assignments. As long as you participate you can still earn your points. She offers plenty of extra credit if you catch yourself falling behind. I would definitely take her again.
Took the 4 week summer course. 4 discussion posts, group projects (upload powerpoints,) and quizzes with straightforward essay questions that you just retrieve from the notes. Book is free online (used it only three times.) Just complete the assignments and you'll pass. Pretty simple class filled with busywork.
Took Professor Lyman last semester and the grading plus the expectations were all very clear. Quite some reading involved but the DQ weren't too bad and the requirement to participate made the online class feel very engaging. Very caring and patient Professor. Would definitely take another one of her classes and really appreciated her teaching styl
I may have gotten an a in this class, however, this professor literally is the worst professor I have ever had. She goes way too hard, she is way too extra, quantity over quality in this class. She likes to write three pages about how to do an assignment Yet somehow explains absolutely nothing and is extremely confusing. I rate her an F-
For my first summer class, this was easier than expected. Every week was the same. A discussion, group project, responses to other groups, quiz (approx. 22-25 q's), and 350 words about a topic from the module & a news article that connects. She also gives students a chance to earn half the points from missed questions from the quiz.
There are 4 group projects, a discussion every other week with 3 responses required, and a quiz once a month. She allows you to make up points on quizzes and gives you some opportunities to boost your grade. Overall not bad, I wish she had live lectures though. The third week was the hardest.
Professor Lyman gives clear guidelines on the assignments and as long as you refer to the class text, powerpoints, and notes you should pass. 4 units total with discussion questions, group work, class participation, and short quizzes (21-25 questions long) with the chance to earn back 1/2 credit on questions you missed. Will be taking her again!
don't get me wrong, she's not the best prof in the world, but she's not bad. she's pretty laid back, and i feel like all the learning is only on you. but she actually cares about the kids in her class and responds to emails quickly. i feel like i didn't learn a lot, but i still got an a in the class so i'm fine with that.
I took Prof. Lyman's online ECON 102 class and honestly, it wasn't too bad. Yes there are 4 group projects, journal entries, quizzes and discussion posts, but it is all manageable. This is definitely not an easy online class and you will have to dedicate time for it; but it is doable. It all comes down to how much effort you put into her class.
Lots of group projects and sometimes instructions were unclear without any clarification. You have to figure out some stuff for yourself, but besides that it's a good class.
Professor Lyman is amazing. There is four modules, which include a discussion board, group project, journal entry, and test. There is also a required textbook that helps understand the concept of each module. Very simple class with an easy layout. With projects, all you need is information and images in your slides. Highly recommend this professor!
I only ever read the notes she provided when I had to do a quiz or discussion. As long as you do your part in group projects you're good to go. No midterm or final just a bunch of quizzes and if you get stuff wrong you can earn up to half a credit if you do the learning quiz. READ INSTRUCTIONS THOUROUGLY AND QUIZZES CAN BE TRICKY. Take with friends
Professor Lyman was great! She clearly states what is needed to get full points and responds almost immediately when you have any questions. The material is hard but one has to put in the effort to succeed of course. Teamwork is needed but having good communication with teammates and you're good to go.
Professor Lyman has been my favorite professor at CSN by far. She is extremely caring for her students and always answers any questions. I took the hybrid course, and it wasn't very difficult. Was broken down into 4 sections with each section having a test and group project. Then at the end an in-person presentation with your group. Show up!
This work wasn't to bad. Its important to read the textbook to understand the course. The hardest part was the lack of direction provided by the professor. But once you understand how the course works, what projects are expected then its becomes easier. The hardest is probably the first week.
This course was tough but mainly because of the workload. It wasn't overwhelming but if you procrastinated, it was hard to understand the material and catch up. There were 4 modules and each one had a discussion board with 4-5 questions, group project, journal entry, and test. But, Professor Lyman does give enough time and instruction to succeed.
do not take this course. im tryna save yall from this. way too much work. this is a basic micro economics class and she makes it way harder and more complicated then it needs to be. take it with someone else.
Taking this class as a graduation requirement. Taking Intro to Economics, heard from others that the other professor (not Lyman, but also named Shari/Sheri, but last name starting with P) has a lot more busy work. This class seems pretty chill so far, and very manageable with other classes, and I'm taking 4 classes as a dual enrollment HS student.
Just finished up the first of 4 modules in the course. The work is quite easy and straightforward, it doesn't take to much time to do if you space it out. She grades mostly on completion of the rubric's requirements which are very clear and easy. Quiz questions are tricky, but if you keep an eye out, you'll get them right almost every time.10/10!
Great Professor! Pretty simple and easy class. Honestly, it won't take you more than an hour a week to finish her assignments. On some of the harder ones, maybe 1.5-2 hours. But this class is a breeze to take, especially if you're taking other classes as well. I'm not sure about her other classes, but ECON 100/Principles of Economics was a breeze.
light work
Class is pretty easy. Most of the quiz questions come straight from her notes, and the rest come from the textbook, you get 3 hours to do it, and I often finish it in less than an hour. Getting a digital version of the e-book is good as you can Ctrl-f some of the answer choices in the quizzes to find out what they mean. Highly recommend for ECON100
Highly recommend for ECON 100. Very doable even with other classes as well. Very light workload in my opinion.
She isn't bad, but definitely could be better. I can't fully explain why, but she's just lazy. Her directions are unclear a lot of the time. She's nice, just needs some work.
I took this professor for ECON102 and again for ECON103. She is very straightforward and assignments are easy to get through. The modules are similar for both classes (with different concepts, obviously). Each module has 4 assignments including a group project per module. The replying to 3 posts was the annoying part, but this professor is great!
There were very few assignments in this class and they were discussions. The tests were kind of difficult but no too much of the grade. The group assignments were quick to complete. The discussions were also quick and easy to complete. Overall, she gives easy 100% and there were few assignments, maybe 4 a month.
I'm leaving this review since I believe others are giving her credit for the easy A that this class barely provides. Whenever you have a question, this professor will respond with unhelpful robotic, and automated responses. The nuances in text, withholding details from rubrics, and lack of in depth review harms this course. Goodluck.
Not great not terrible. Class is mainly reading-based discussions, group projects, journal entries and quizzes. Not hard, but her feedback is copy paste so you don't actually learn anything from it. At times it was noticeable that the assignments weren't updated or checked for errors. To me, that felt a bit lazy. Easy A though.
