Requires quite a bit of out-of-class work. I got an A, did all required work and read as requested for tests. Some group work required. You can tell she loves her work and cares about her students. If you need help, she'll be there for you!

Sheri is an awesome teacher. I myself am now planning to major in Communications, thanks in most part to the passion and conviction she showed for the subject. If you have a fear of public speaking, you should definetly take her class. It helps. It is fun

Lots of writing due, tests are easy. Have to do a couple grp projects. Big grp project was pointless.

As long as you put a decent effort into this class, your skills as a public speaker will improve. Don't procrastinate on speech preperation. The book-tests are simple. Sheri is personable, clear, and helpful. I love her funky shoes!

Read the book, write your reports (analyze), do the web test and you'll get an A. Makes you do a smester long group project, it wasn't pretty but you learn from it. Pay attention to her comments and talk to her in class. Nice and helpful teacher

she's a pretty nice teacher. The group projects are boring. I found myself getting a better grade when I didn't prepare for the small speechs I just stood up there and opinionated. There's a lot of work. I wouldn't take her again. she's ok.

although you do so many speeches (especially during summer school), she teaches and she incorperates what she teaches into her own style of teaching. making it very clear and understanding of what to learn and how to pass the class

Sheri is Great! Syllabus has everything you need to keep track of assignments. Study the CDs for the tests. Recommend this class with ENGL 120 - they compliment each other. Definitely gives you confidence for speaking in other classes. A Favorite class.

Sheri is a very helpful teacher. The class overall is easy, the tests are hard. You do ALOT of group work....at the end of the semester you wind up in 3 different groups. READ THE BOOK, pay attention in class, TAKE THE WEB TESTS....you'll do fine. Fun class, helpful teacher.

She is a really fun teacher. You get to know everyone in the class and you come to feel just comfortable. You consitantly do speeches, but in the end it's just better than doing 1 speech for the year. I reccommend everyone take her. You will get a good greade if you just listen to what she says.

From what I know and heard, she is better than the rest of the Comm. teachers, cause I find myself boasting about her much more than others boast about their teacher. If Comm.122 is on your list then don't be afraid and take her. It doesn't get better than her!Funny, helpful, easygoing, knowledge.

If you have to take this class I recommend her. I was extremly scared of public speaking. I'm a very shy person and I was able to become confident and able to deliver a speech w/ the help of Sheri and my classmates. She helps create a comfortable setting in order to learn to be an effective speaker.

This class required a lot of out of class group work! Class was fun, interesting, but test was hard. Very hard, and confusing... Read the book, do the online quizzes, pay attention in class... Be careful who you choose for group work... youre basically stuck with them for the rest of the class!!!

I took the 3 week class and it was very clear. She goes over every thing. You feel comfortable because she has you do small speeches almost every day. she is a delight and I would recommend her all the way.

Look, I hate speech but I had a great class. About 10 girls and 4 other guys. The class bonded and was real nice. All she wants to see is that you try. I made an outline 30 minutes before class and passed with a B. You could read from your paper the whole time and she wouldn't say anything!

I've ttaken 8 weeks COMM122 class from this instructor. She was awesome throughout the whole 8 weeks. I've had one A and a B for the rest of the assignements, but I've got a C at the last exam. Guess what, she gave me C as a final grade. If you want to get a good grade kiss her butt, I've realized at the end of semester and it was too late...

She was a great teacher! I dreaded taking this class and when I finished I had not only survived, but learned way more than I planned on. I'd recommend her to anyone - she rocks!

Such a nice woman and has something great to say about everyone in her class. She makes you feel comfortable while giving your speach. Easy grader just make sure you don't go under the time limit. I enjoyed her class a lot.

I love the energy in our class. She is funny and very spontaneous. Her teaching methods are quite questionable in the sense some is new to me, however it helps keep our noses balenced between the books and our peers.

Very funny teacher. She does not lecture through the entire class, but assigns work that lets us learn the material ourselves. She is thoughtful, objective, and really funny. Not a lot of work assigned in this class, but a lot of group work outside of class. She makes the course more enjoyable.

You do two project, and get in front of the class twice. For test, study the online quizes. Be sure to read your chapters. Journals are very important, be sure you get a clear idea on what she wants for the first few journals.

Ms. G. is a very fun teacher. She talked to us like we are human and not just teaching material. She is a people person. The class is not difficult if you do the work on time. Good experience.

A phenomonal person teaching a wonderful class. She really knows this subject and makes you realize things about small group communication that aren't noticed. The tests aren't that bad and there is not alot of work to do in her class. The classroom environment or "group climate" is pretty chill. I highly recommend her, she's awesome!!!

I took Ms. Guseman for Comm 120 & 122. I am an extremely antisocial, anti-public-speaking type, but she really helped me out w/some of those issues & I feel taking her class made me a better public speaker, as well as a better communicator overall. Here's to Sheri Guseman!

Sheri Guseman is a great teacher! She is very layed back and fun! I took an eight week class with her, eventhough it seemed like a lot of work in the beginning it really wasnt so bad. You do have to do a semester long project, but dont let that intimidate you, it actually turned out to be a very rewarding experience for me. Im glad I took her!

Sheri is not one of those teachers that just pretends like they care and just gives you a grade out of nowhere, she actually listens and gives you the grade you deserve. She will never bull**** you and tell you anything that you do not need to know or work on. She is a great teacher and very helpful.

Ms Guseman is a totally, extremely awesome instuctor. Perfect for her field. Her insight and knowledge of small group communications, to me is unsurpassed. out of all that I learned about my self and others,she taught a chapter on Leadership that I will never forget, she said:"A leader is someone whom that although noone follows-they still walk"

Guseman is a teacher that changed me, The summer class was a lot of work but also fun at the same time. One of the few classes i have looked forward to going to in my time at Grossmont. I strongly suggest using the online quiz's from the books website but strongly suggest doing the review sections from the book before the final exam.

Great class..As long as you go to class, do the easy assignments that she gives, and at least look at the material and review a little before the test you will get an A. Easy class, treats you like an adult talk to her if you have a problem and she's there to help you. Loved this class!!!

I took her 4 week summer class and boy that was work! 2 projects and 2 tets. Tests were tough so read all the chapters and take a decent amount of lecture notes. I got an A, barely. All in all Sheri is a great professor.

Really great teacher, super funny, knows her stuff. One test was easy, the other was really hard. But if you keep up with all the homework (there was enough to keep you busy) you can still get an A. :) If you need a Small Group Communication..... class she's the teacher to pick.

overall awesome teacher. i took a once a week 3 hour class and was never bored. rare textbook use during class. few quizes here and there. mostly about presenting to the class or to our small groups.

She IS a wonderful teacher, she is there to help you whenever you need it, she is sincere, she will even help you with other classes! She wants you to succeed, which is what a teacher should want. Not too hard but not too soft, when she grades she gives you constructive criticsm as well!! TAKE HER!!!

Sheri turned out to be an awesome lady. I needed the class to keep my FinAid and even when it was full, helped to squeeze me in. Took for an 8week class and learned A LOT. Graded fairly. If you did the work exactly as outlined, you did well. At the end of the class, I was borderline A by 3 pts. She asked me what I thought, and gave me the A. A++

She is a pretty good teacher. I took her class as an 8 week Course. its a lot of work. but you get really close to every one in the class. We did 3 group projects which they were easy. The tests are pretty hard and you need to really study for them. She grades the assignments hard so you need to go really in details. I had alot of fun in her class.

Dr. Strothers is a great teacher and keeps the class engaged the entire time. Assignment expectations are crystal clear thanks to the thick syllabus. Grades fairly and is more than willing to help. The class itself was very fun and you will make friends with several students. 8 week course was great.

Dr.strothers was a very nice and very helpful when it came to explaining lessions. Going to class is pretty important cause points are kinda are neccesary for a good grade. overall, i enjoyed her class very much :)

Sheri is an amazing person! She makes class really interesting everyday, although it is a lot of busy work. There is a speech due every single week, plus other assignments due every week. It is just a very time-consuming class.

There are weekly reading assignments and group presentations. Pay close attention to the syllabus for group presentation grading. You are expected to participate in class discussions and show etiquette. Extra credit offered. Read chapters THOROUGHLY to prep for exams. Not hard to get an "A".

Super-chill teacher, but you will definitely fight with your group members. You have to spend SO much time with your groups, that it's like having 5 relationships, at once; no exagerration - you will see, from the first week - it's gonna take a LOT of your time, outside of class. She is a GREAT teacher!! I took her class with a newborn baby and went into this class ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED of public speaking! She makes talking in front of people fun and relaxing. I learned a lot in this class and was so glad that I took it with her! The work load is not that much. Definitely do-able, totally recommend her!!

I would feel bad for anyone going through Grossmont College and never got to take Sheri Strothers. If you ever questioned it. I'm telling you now, take any and all of her classes.

If you're deathly scared of public speaking, then take this class! One of the best things I have ever done. She gives you a binder syllabus with all the tools necessary to get an A, you just have to follow the criteria and you will do well. She is a funny, laid back teacher.

Took this course during summer. Everything was jam-packed into six weeks. It was a lot of work and pretty involved. She makes the instructions crystal clear in her "syllabook." Majority of students received B-C grades. If you want an A, you have to work for it. Excellent teacher overall.

I have taken the other courses Sheri teaches at Grossmont and she hands down is one of my favorite professors I have ever had! I would take any class she taught. This class: easy - participate, do work, and you'll do great. Used old version of text (10th) and worked fine-may not work 2015+ though. Can miss class but why? You won't regret.

Very Laid back teacher. Learned so much in this class! Assignments are a little confusing at first. She gives 2 Tests from the book which are pretty lame. No study guide given. Participate and you will do fine.

She's super inspirational and not only hosts beautiful, deep and thought provoking conversations, but she's there for each one of her students. She knows how to teach and communicate. Best professor so far. Very funny, easy to understand, knows how to communicate, and just great. Need textbook to pass and to be there for speech days. This class helped with my severe social anxiety and fear of public speaking and helped me get my current job and other classes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

The professor make the class environment very comfortable. Very funny! Two exams, but they are doable (based on the chapters you must read). You facilitate certain chapters throughout the course, which are helpful. One group project, but most of the class revolves around the speeches you do in class. You begin to actually enjoy speaking in class!

First things first-- YOU WILL DO A COMMUNITY PROJECT DURING THE ENTIRE SEMESTER IN COMM 122. DO NOT PUT IT OFF! Now that i have said that, she is a helpful teacher and is I would say enjoyable to be in her class. Always have your homework done, and prepare for speeches. Work Hard and you will pass. She will drop you after more than 3 absences.

I've taken and dropped 2 previous communication professors because of their teaching methods (talking to the class like they are children, endless speeches with no point, etc.) Sheri is great. Expect work and participation but there is alot of group work. Great teacher. One of my favorite professors I've had at grossmont and I've had many.

Professor Strothers is one of the BEST professors I've had. I'm scared of public speaking, but she was able to transform the classroom into a family environment. She is also a very chill professor and she is just the best. Recommend taking her if you have to take Communications. I can't stress enough how good of a professor she is.

Dr. Strothers' COMM 122 class is easy, the only possible problem that students could face is the actual public speaking, which is all what the class is about. If you have a fear from public speaking, her class would probably help you fight that fear. If she were to teach COMM 123 I would take it even though I transferred out of Grossmont!

My favorite class this semester. Sheri is hilarious and gives really great lectures. She communicates really well with her students and keeps the class momentum going. VERY clear grading criteria. Sheri has been my favorite teacher at Grossmont so far. I took her intersession course, so the class went pretty fast. She actually cares about you learning about public speaking. Just show up to class and follow instructions to what she is looking for in the speeches. You will need the textbook and you will interact with those in the class.

My favorite teacher of the semester. She's absolutely wonderful and hilarious! Study for the exams (based on the book): one in class and the final online. Very doable class, even if you're shy. There's a lot of group interaction so that will prepare you for the many fun speeches. You may be nervous at first but you'll get used to it! Good luck!

COMM 122 with Prof Strothers was challenging in the aspect of numerous speeches but rewarding when you finally felt comfortable at the podium. Shes a tough but fair grader on the speeches. Follow what she asks, specifically. For the tests, study the link she gives you, do the practice questions over and over. I loved the class, it was great!

She tries to help you feel more comfortable presenting at the podium. She is a tough grader, but she is very fair and gives good feedback to help you improve. There is a group project during the semester that has to be done outside of class. There are good extra credit opportunities. A good choice for students who are afraid of public speaking.

Sheri is the best! She cares that's why I wanted to do better each time. The class was much fun too. The class overall was difficult because we had to do alot of speeches, but it was all worth it. Great experience!

The best professor I have ever had. This was an accelerated course so you really had to make sure you were on top of assignments. Daily speeches. Easy tests. JUST TRY! She taught us all how to loosen up at the podium. Won't forget the experience I had. Take her public speaking class... Stick around and you'll go from terrified to terrific.....

Great teacher overall, but I never got a single A in the speeches eve though I ended up with an A in the class. We had a speech for almost every class meeting, but they were not too difficult.

Took her for intercession in January of 2019. An awesome professor. Really makes you feel comfortable and treats you like an adult (does not police you for having electronics out, etc.). Truly cares about her students and treats them with respect. Expect to present a lot of speeches, but very doable and she's not a harsh grader. Take her! :)

Take this class!! She is a wonderful teacher who really helps you feel comfortable at the podium. Put in the effort for each speech, come to class, and expect to walk out a way better speaker. Lots of class interaction, and the assignments arent that hard. Sheri rocks!!!

I loved this class!! I started out being scared of public speaking, like everyone else, and Sheri made it the most positive welcoming class I have taken so far. She gives really good feedback, and I improved so much on my speaking, and confidence! The speeches are easy to write, and both tests are easy if you scan the textbook first.

Sherri is by far the best professor I've had! I throughly enjoyed this class. I strongly recommend her 8 week class, it was extremely attainable and the workload was extremely doable. Sherri is one of the most understanding professors I've had the pleasure of having. She's realistic and keeps it real! If you get the chance take her class!!

Easiest class ever , best teacher ever ! Would highly recommend!!!! Yes public speaking is scary and nerve wracking but with prof Sheri you will enjoy it and forget about the nerves .

Sheri Strothers is an excellent teacher! You can tell she really cares about her students. This class is A LOT of work. We had a total of 9 speeches and 2 exams (midterm & final). The book material is taught in small groups each week by a student, and a group presents a chapter to the class. Class participation is graded, so attendance matters.

I hate talking in front of people. But she is such a peach that it seems not that bad. She is very good at what she does.

Professor Strother's truly made public speaking so comfortable, her energy makes everyone calm. I was so nervous to take this class but she made it so amazing. Expect to do a lot of speeches, but the point of these is to put you more at ease.

Super awesome professor. Explains topics that help you understand(while being funny and likable). For the 8wk course, expect at least 8-10 speeches. Some are mini-talks to help you become comfortable with your classmates. You definitely need the book for exams and group work. One project done with the group as well. Her feedback on speeches help!

Best class that I have taken and best teacher that I ever had! She is hilarious and make the class so much fun! She had a challenge during this COVID-19 situation and handled that with perfection, making it one of the best online classes that I have ever taken

Mrs. Strothers for Spring 2020 handled the class with amazing effort and care! Her lectures were amazing and insightful! Explains the topics really well and always gives good feedback for you to improve as a student. Best teacher I've took in Grossmont College so far, you won't regret taking her for your Comm class!

I love Sheri! She wants speeches to be done in a very specific way and once you learn that you and prepare you will be just fine. She's funny and her classes are enjoyable and all around good person. If you don't like public speaking you will definitely feel more comfortable after. Good EC options to make up lost speech points!

Dr. Strothers is such a charm. I was TERRIFED of her class, because it was public speaking. Her assignments consist of speeches that vary in length, usually between 1-11 minutes. (1-11 minutes). Learning how to outline can be tedious, but she is always able to help you. Do not hesitate, take her... you won't be disappointed.

Professor Strothers is great. I highly recommend her public speaking, if English is your second language; if you disgust public speaking. Professor Strothers gave good feedback on the speeches that you could use in your next speech and keep points. Read the syllabus when you take her class.

She's amazing. I struggled with public speaking panic and the class helped me a lot to get over my nervousness! She's hilarious and really cares about her students. We had 3h of class but they went flying because we talk a lot. Not a boring class. Trust me, take this class! you won't regret it. The speeches/ outlines are hard if you don't prepare

I can't write how AWESOME Dr. Strothers is with only 350 characters. Her class was my favorite class ever! She is engaging and truly helpful. I often had questions and never felt judged by her. She is also EXTREMELY accessible. The book is required but it wasn't crazy expensive. 100/10 recommend taking her class.

I highly recommend taking her class! I can't stress it enough, only regret is not being able to take this course in person due to COVID and meeting her. She builds a great class environment and is understanding about being nervous with public speaking. She's hilarious and fun to talk to. Class was fast paced, but come prepared and you'll pass.

Professor Strothers was so kind and understood when I talked about my struggles with mental health. Her assignments are pretty easy and straight to the point. She provides the textbook for you so you don't need to worry about buying one. There is a quiz every week but they're very easy as long as you read the chapter.

I found this class to be very easy. Assignments related to the textbook (which was provided) and were easy. She did take a long time to grade assignments but I thought she gave good feedback and was an easy grader. If you are going to take comms I would say take this professor.

Professor is easy to reach out to and willing to change things if you raise an issue to her. Class material was a bit disorganized, sometimes grading criteria wasn't entirely clear but once you know what she's looking for it doesn't take a lot of work to get an A. Just put in genuine effort and you will pass.

Professor Strothers is the professor to take. Her reputation speaks for itself. Look elsewhere if you want a professor who will hand you an easy A. If you want someone who will change your life, she is the one. She genuinely cares about her students and their success. She will make you earn your A.

I'm so grateful I took this class this semester! This teacher really helped me to be a little more confident. The class is mandatory but definitely dynamic and fun. I had nothing but a good time dedicated to this class. I wanted her to teach other subjects. I'm sure I would learn from her. All I can say is THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Professor Strothers is amazing - she makes public speaking fun and engaging. While the class involves a lot of speeches, her feedback and support really helped me overcome my nerves. I found Unstuck AI to be a great study aid too.

Professor S was great. She made the material apply to my life. She grades a bit harsh and some of the criteria could be more clear, but she will answer you if you email. She lets you work ahead. The only thing I didn't like about this class was the textbook. It was online and full of typos. But all of the quiz questions come right from it.

Pick this professor for Comm!!! She is beyond amazing, and very straightforward with grading and what you can improve for the next speech. Beyond caring person and truly hilarious and makes class enjoyable. No complaints, wish she taught every subject.

Solid comms class and good professor. Exam questions are straight from the book, speeches and assignments are very easy, grading is pretty lax just be present and somewhat involved and it's a ez pass.
